Two Creatives Created Magic In This Colorful Zimmermann Farm Wedding

August 13, 2023 | justine

Lauren Wysocki

When two creatives tie the knot, magic happens! Colleen, a flower farmer and floral designer, and Christopher, a graphic designer and musician, beautifully combined their artistic talents for a colorful celebration that showcased their personalities in every element. With the help of their team of pros and loved ones, their Zimmermann Farm wedding truly reflected their vision—from the homegrown flowers and handcrafted signs to the original music and homemade pickled vegetable favors.

Surrounded by forest, waterfalls, and gardens, the historic farm estate provided an idyllic setting for their dream outdoor celebration. Embracing the groom’s love for vibrant rainbow colors, the couple curated a muted rainbow color palette with their decor. The ceremony was adorned with ground florals, framing the heartfelt exchange of vows. For their reception, they gathered around a long dinner table for a delightful family-style meal. Under twinkling string lights and stars, they dined and danced the night away.

Their big day was a magical and intimate affair, with every detail thoughtfully considered to complement the picturesque landscape. The pair truly brought this colorful Zimmermann Farm wedding to life, making it a perfect source of inspiration. Follow their wedding journey and explore the beautifully captured details and moments through the lens of Lauren Wysocki.

The Couple:

Colleen and Christopher

The Wedding:

Zimmermann Farm, Pike County, Pennsylvania, United States

How Their Colorful Zimmermann Farm Wedding Came To Be

I am a flower farmer and floral designer, and my husband, Christopher, is a graphic designer and musician, so we had strong opinions about our wedding’s design and style. We wanted an outdoor wedding in September. Our date was on the day of the Full Harvest Moon, which felt perfect. With summer crops peaking and fall crops starting, we aimed to reflect the abundant meeting of these two seasons in early September. Christopher’s favorite color is “rainbow,” so we embraced that idea with an elevated and tasteful rainbow color palette for the flowers, decor, and attire.

Creating A Unique Zimmermann Farm Wedding Ceremony With Personal Touches and Including Their Loved Ones

Chris’ close childhood friend, Seth, served as our officiant, and he personalized the ceremony beautifully. Walking down the aisle with my mom, Chris’ song “In Circles,” played acoustically by his best man, filled the air. Our dearest friends did readings, Chris’ friend reading “Mouthful of Forevers” and my friend reading Chris’ poem titled “What Do You Give The Girl That Has Her Own Flower Farm.” We wrote our own vows. Inspired by the peak flower season in September, the ceremony flowers created a wild garden design. We exchanged vows under a weeping birch tree at Zimmermann Farm, surrounded by ferns and foliage with moss used by Strange Vine Studio to enhance the natural setting. It felt extraordinary to be in a lush semi-circle of flowers, some grown by friends, making it a beautiful collaboration of floral design friends.

Why They Chose Zimmermann Farm As Their Venue

Our wedding at Zimmermann Farm was a unique experience for us, our bridal party, and our guests. It was the perfect choice because it allowed us to customize our wedding and be one of the first couples to get married there. Jenni and Christine, the women behind our venue, were incredibly accommodating, promising to bring our dreams to life. We fell in love with the venue the moment we saw it, surrounded by the beauty of Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, and the historic house added a sense of charm and history. The venue’s flexibility for an all-outdoor wedding with tented options in case of rain, in-house catering, and convenient on-site accommodations for guests within 30 minutes made it the ideal choice after considering three other venues. We couldn’t have been happier with our decision.

A Nature-Immersed Dinner Zimmermann Farm Wedding Reception in the Forest

Our dinner reception–held along a long table for 160 guests–was a magical experience, with the tree-lined driveway creating an epic and unforgettable dinner party. Our guests still rave about how special and unique it felt. The team at Zimmermann Farm did an exceptional job, creating an elevated but approachable restaurant-style dinner that exceeded our expectations.

Meaningful and Colorful Zimmermann Farm Wedding Fashion

Pursuing nature-inspired elegance, I found the perfect Anna Kara dress with an open back and a custom-made cape veil by Abby’s Sew Right, paying tribute to my dad. With minimal accessories like dried flower hairpins, Bryr Studio custom clogs completed my look. Chris chose a distinctive mustard yellow linen suit from Mantaikotai with linen ties and custom shoes from Adelante. Our bridal party embraced a “muted rainbow” theme with velvet bridesmaid dresses and suits in various shades for the groomsmen.

Dancing to the Music Performed by Talented Friends

The first dance at our wedding was an unforgettable moment made even more special by our musician friends, Emily Jeanne Brown and Eric “Doc” Mendelsohn, who performed for us. Choosing “Harvest Moon” by Neil Young–fitting for our Full Harvest Moon wedding–made it even more meaningful. Their live performance brought tears to our eyes as our friends and family gathered around the dance floor, singing along. To add to the magic, Chris surprised everyone by letting his long hair down in the middle of the dance, earning enthusiastic applause and cheers from the crowd. It was a genuinely touching and unforgettable moment for us.

Wedding Planning Lessons Learned: Prioritize, Pace, and Seek Support

Planning our wedding was a labor of love, with us deeply invested in every element. However, compromises were inevitable, especially with budget constraints. Decision fatigue is real, so we learned to take realistic timeframes for making choices. Taking breaks between major decisions helped us avoid feeling overwhelmed. We discovered the value of seeking help from friends and family who graciously supported us. Though asking for assistance wasn’t natural for us, it proved essential in creating a special day. We recommend not leaving things to the last minute to reduce stress, particularly for significant aspects like outfits, as customizations may take longer than expected. DIY’ing elements like signage, decor, and favors was rewarding, but we wish we had started earlier to allow room for unexpected challenges. Planning ahead and allowing for potential hiccups can make the journey smoother and more enjoyable.

Honoring a Beloved Father: How They Found Joy Amidst Loss on Their Zimmermann Farm Wedding Day

Our wedding day became a bittersweet journey as we unexpectedly lost my dad months before the event. Emotions were raw as we navigated joy and sorrow simultaneously. Despite the challenges, we knew he would want us to have the wedding of our dreams. And his hard work made it possible. We felt his presence in various ways throughout the day, celebrating his life and our special bond. Earlier, during preparations, my mom, a close friend, and I gathered privately to honor him and sprinkle his ashes around the ceremony area, ensuring he could be with us during that poignant moment. It was a heartfelt tribute that brought comfort and made our wedding day meaningful.

Dancing to Dad’s Favorite Song and Signature Dance Move

My dad’s absence on our wedding day was especially felt during the father/daughter dance. Music had always been a shared passion, and “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac had been our chosen song. After he passed away, we discovered a list of songs he wanted played at the wedding. As the day approached, I tried to find a way to honor him that felt like a celebration rather than overwhelming grief. So, we decided to dance to his favorite song, “Sugar Magnolia” by the Grateful Dead. To add a personal touch, we even did his signature dance move called “The Worm.” A hilarious and lighthearted moment that made our friends and family laugh. Halfway through the song, we invited everyone to join us on the dance floor. Celebrating my dad’s memory with joy and laughter. It became a beautiful and uplifting tribute that made the dance even more special.

Homemade Pickled Vegetable Favors

Inspired by early September’s abundant food and flowers, we wanted to share our love for pickling with our guests. Before my flower farming days, I worked on vegetable farms. And Chris and I spent time on an organic farm, sparking my passion for canning. A bridesmaid’s idea of “Pickled You’re Here” favors excited us. Despite procrastinating, I was determined to make it happen, crafting 120 jars of pickled vegetables and jam in the week leading up to the wedding was quite a challenge! Friends helped chop vegetables and tie labels, and with Chris’ contributions, we set up a lovely stand. Guests adored the jars, but a few went missing, adding a touch of humor to our special day.

DIY Signage with Personal Touches

For our wedding, we wanted everything to reflect our love for the seasons, the Full Harvest Moon, and our beautiful venue. Erin Fox at The Moxie Fox created custom illustrations for our invitations to achieve this. Drawing inspiration from these illustrations, Chris designed all the wedding collateral, including our invitations, food and bar menus, escort cards, and place cards. With a personal touch in every detail, our DIY signage added a unique and sentimental touch to our special day.

Homegrown Blooms and a Collaborative Effort to Support Local Growers

While I preferred to avoid handling flowers on our big day (except for my bouquet), I teamed up with my close friend and bridesmaid, Kori from Colly Flowers, to bring our floral vision to life. I grew some of the flowers. But the majority were sourced from local flower farmers in New Jersey and Pennsylvania through the Garden State Flower Cooperative. Our talented flower friends, Lilly and Hope from Strange Vine Studio, worked their magic to execute our flower vision flawlessly. In addition to flowers, we decided to purchase tablecloths and napkins instead of renting them, making it a more cost-effective option. My incredible mom took on the task of ironing and folding each one. Making her invaluable contribution to our collaborative and heartfelt wedding setup.

Moody Lodge at Malibou Lake Wedding With Vintage Touches

August 4, 2023 | justine

When Gabe and Steve planned their wedding, they pulled inspiration from the venue itself—a fishing and hunting lodge built in the 1920s. They wanted their Lodge at Malibou Lake wedding to have a masculine feel complete with florals and vintage touches. Since their big day would be in the fall, they chose warm colors to match the season. Most importantly, they wanted their wedding to reflect who they were as a couple and as individuals, where every aspect would mirror their unique love story

The historic property was a stunning backdrop for their celebration. Under the shade of sycamore and oak trees, the couple tied the knot under a lush arch that perfectly framed the Santa Monica Mountain backdrop. Inside the ballroom, they carried over the fall theme with tablescapes of autumn blooms, dark accents, and gold settings that matched the foliage adorning the black chandelier and fireplace.

With the help of their trusted vendor team, the two grooms created a stunning and inviting atmosphere to enjoy special moments together. They also blended their traditions in thoughtful ways that showcased their personalities. If you want to see more, check out these beautiful photos captured by Mandee Johnson and soak in every detail of their romantic and heartfelt celebration.

Creating Custom Wedding Stationery

We designed all the printed pieces at Gabe’s business, Color Services. Then we took all those pieces home, and together we spent countless hours hand-tearing, cutting, scoring, taping, and sewing each piece. That included table menus, place cards, table numbers, bar signs, and programs. Outside of the design itself, which went through numerous iterations and prototypes, we tested several paper stocks, weights, shades, and colors, before settling on our final choices. Each place card sat in a wooden holder originally in unfinished wood, but we primed and painted each one gold to match the rest of our tablescape.

Embracing Mexican Tradition with a Mariachi Serenade

We had a mariachi for our wedding ceremony as a nod to Gabe’s Mexican heritage. We engaged Mariachi Arcoiris, the world’s first all LGBTQ+ mariachi troupe, who performed as our guests arrived during our ceremony and the cocktail hour. They were incredible musicians with an impressive repertoire, took requests from our guests, and lent so much magic to our ceremony. Of course, we selected some beautiful songs for our entrance. The wedding party entered with “Cien Años,” a classic Pedro Infante song. My parents are no longer with us, so I walked down the aisle with my brother and sister. Gabe was walked down the aisle by both of his parents. The song “Que Bonito Amor” played during our entrance, another classic made famous by Pedro Infante. We exited the ceremony as newlyweds to the festive sounds of “La Fiesta del Mariachi, ” another mariachi standard perfect for kicking off the party.

Honoring Mom’s Memory During Lodge at Malibou Lake Wedding Ceremony

To honor my mom, who had recently passed, we asked the florist to include purple flowers in the lasso. My mom was famous for how much she loved the color purple. She wore it all of the time. Not long before she passed earlier that year, she had given us her blessing about getting married. This was momentous for us because she was raised in the South with a very religious upbringing. Her approval meant so much to us.

Honoring Heritage with a Beautiful Lasso Ceremony

As an additional nod to Gabe’s heritage, we wanted to include an aspect of a traditional Mexican wedding in our ceremony. Gabe’s parents had a lasso ceremony at their wedding, so we thought it would also be a marvelous tradition to include in ours. Our celebrant Kristin mentioned all of those considerations as part of the ceremony. We asked our dear friends to be our Padrinos de Lasso, who draped the lasso around us while Mariachi Arcoiris played “Sabor a Mi.” The lasso ceremony encapsulates so much of what a wedding should be—a way to reflect the couple’s love and commitment to each other by honoring and blending both families.

A Handcrafted and Meaningful Memento From Their Ceremony

Our Padrino de Lasso and friend, Greg Lawler, is an incredibly creative artist and maker. We asked him if he could create something special so that our ring bearer, Gabe’s nephew, could carry the rings down the aisle. He created this unique valet tray that included some beautiful features. It was a leather-lined, beautifully stained wooden tray featuring stitching reminiscent of that on a baseball (a nod to our passion for the Los Angeles Dodgers). We love this piece and put our rings into it every night before going to bed.

Gabe’s Touching Tribute to His Parents During Their Lodge at Malibou Lake Wedding

After making our way down the aisle and just before the sendoff, Gabe delivered a beautiful and moving speech thanking his parents for a lifetime of love, support, and acceptance. Entirely in Spanish and a complete surprise to his parents, his speech acknowledged how vital their support was to us as a same-sex couple. Although times have changed, we’ve seen many LGBTQ friends rejected by their families. Gabe’s parents are Mexican immigrants, and machismo is still a massive part of the culture, so that kind of support is still uncommon. We wanted to honor them, and this felt like the right moment for that. Gabe delivered this speech on the mic. And even though many of our guests didn’t speak Spanish, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house when he finished.

From Reception to Home: The Canvas Portrait That Became a Timeless Keepsake

We are so proud of the large canvas portrait of us above the fireplace. We commissioned an artist from Spain, Daniel Jose Cabrera Castro, also known as “El Dibujo,” to do a watercolor portrait for our anniversary earlier in the year. And with his permission, Gabe at his print shop Color Services, blew this up to a life-sized scale (over 7ft tall) to place on the fireplace mantle.

How Music and An Outfit Change Set The Party Tone

We knew from the start we wanted people to dance, so the music was critical. We spent months coming up with suggestions for the reception playlist. Before dinner was served, we went into a 20-minute dance set to loosen up our guests and prepare them for a fun night. This was a brilliant idea by our planner and the perfect way set the tone of the evening. While we loved our suits, having a big outfit change for the after-party was fun. We slipped away from the ballroom just a few minutes before the party was going to end, ran upstairs to our dressing suite, and donned our party clothes—bold shirts, pants, shoes, and beautiful hats, completely different from our wedding suits. We made it back to the dance floor just as the beat kicked in for our last dance. Song of choice? Duh, we’re gay! It had to be “Last Dance” by Donna Summer!

Wedding Planning Advice: Embracing the Process Together

Cherish the time you have together planning and do as much of the planning together as you possibly can. We spent ten months poring over the details independently and with our wedding planner. And when the day is done, you’ll still have wonderful memories of the time you put into it yourselves to make the day magical. Don’t just hand off all the details to someone else, you’ll miss out on so much.

This Bold Villa Woodbine Wedding Incorporated Italian Touches & Miami Flair

Brooke and Tim had initially planned to have their wedding in Italy, as it held sentimental value for them. However, everything changed when they stumbled upon a magnificent, historic Mediterranean-style villa nestled in the heart of Miami. Its charm captivated them instantly, and they knew it was the perfect venue for their special day. They envisioned their wedding as an elegant contemporary dinner party filled with their dearest friends and family. Vibrant florals, flickering candles, and lush greenery were incorporated into the celebration, bringing their dream of a chic and modern Villa Woodbine wedding to life.

The pair was determined to have their wedding outdoors in a beautiful garden instead of a typical ballroom–and they did just that. They said their heartfelt vows beneath a stunning asymmetrical arch that looked like it was growing from the ground. The reception that followed was equally enchanting, with long tables covered in white linen and bright centerpieces that added bursts of color. Fairy lights created a romantic and magical atmosphere, making their dream wedding come true amid the picturesque garden setting.

The couple’s big day perfectly blended Italian elegance and Miami flair, capturing the best of both worlds. Thankfully, Lauren Alatriste was there to capture it all. Keep scrolling to see every beautiful detail and memorable moment of their soiree.

The Couple:

Brooke and Tim

The Wedding:

Villa Woodbine, Bayshore Drive, Miami, Florida, United States

How Their Villa Woodbine Wedding Came To Be

We were adamant about not getting married in a ballroom, so a beautiful outdoor garden was a must. We originally wanted to get married in Italy–somewhere I had lived, and the first big trip we took together as a couple. But we were sold once we found this historic Mediterranean-style villa in the heart of Miami. During the tour, we immediately fell in love with the venue’s lush outdoor garden, the open-air setting, and the personality throughout. It was like stepping into a beautiful Tuscan villa in the heart of our new home in Miami. We wanted our wedding to feel like a chic and modern dinner party surrounded by our closest friends and family. We pictured bold, bright florals with many candles and string lights to enhance the lush greenery.  Long tables allowed everyone to mingle, and bamboo chairs introduced a more modern and tropical element.

Setting A Romantic Villa Woodbine Wedding Tone With Their Floral Arrangements

Our florist, Kaleidoscope Floral, was our standout vendor. I made edits to the flower design until the very last minute, and they executed above and beyond our imagination. They were a pleasure to work with and even provided an extra installation on one of the fireplaces that made our cake-cutting photo. My jaw dropped when we walked into the venue and saw the arrangements. They designed the most breathtaking asymmetrical, deconstructed arch to look like it was growing from the ground. It was unlike anything I’d ever seen at a wedding and created such a stunning backdrop for speeches throughout the night too.

Taking Dance Lessons To Prep For Their First Dance Turned Out To Be Their Favorite Activity

We started taking dance lessons for a few weeks to learn basic moves and ensure we looked natural for our first dance. It turned out to be our favorite break from wedding planning, and we found ourselves dancing around our kitchen and trying new renditions of jumps and dips most nights. When the time finally came for our first dance, it felt like we were alone in our little world, gliding around our kitchen even though our loved ones surrounded us. Ultimately, we got to look around at our friends and family and have them join us on the dance floor, the perfect image of our special day.

Navigating Villa Woodbine Wedding Planning Challenges: Keep Your Focus On The Big Picture

Our advice is to focus on the big picture and remember that at the end of the day, it’s all about you and the person you love getting married. Things out of your control will go wrong, but don’t let that diminish the day’s enjoyment. If you and your spouse have fun, guests will bring that same energy. Most importantly, remember that your loved ones are likely traveling and spending money to attend your big day, so go the extra mile to ensure everyone is comfortable, whether organizing room blocks, buses, or special food options. Also, provide your vendors with as much direction and guidance as possible so you won’t have any regrets.

Designing The Paper Goods for a Unified Look And Redirecting Their Funds On Other Wedding Details

I was focused on making everything cohesive, so I designed all the paper goods myself. While this required much more time and effort, it helped us use that budget for other things. I hit a roadblock with our place cards at the last minute when I learned that our caterer required meal identifiers for each guest, and I wanted to keep the design clean and minimal. To get around this, I decided to hand illustrate the different floral varieties our florist used on the tables. I was surprised how many guests noticed these tiny details that I thought only mattered to me. The end result was really unique and special to us.

Budgeting with Purpose: Prioritizing Upgrades for Maximum Impact

We knew when we booked the venue that there were certain items we’d want to upgrade—bamboo chairs, farm tables, string lights, and plenty of bud vases with taper candles adorning the tables. We added those items to our budget before booking our venue and made a list of the other estimated expenses, from guest transportation down to the stamps for invites. We decided that things like chair upgrades would impact more than upgraded dinnerware or linens and prioritized things like an upgraded bar menu for our guests instead. It’s easy to get carried away, but the best thing to do is get quotes from multiple vendors before booking and be honest with them about your budget to see how you can make things work.

Infusing Miami Flair Through Music and Creating A Playlist for Every Moment

Good music was really important to us, so we created a playlist for the ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and reception to guide our DJ and musicians, and from there, they played to the crowd’s energy. We wanted our guests to have a great time and infuse our wedding with a little bit of Miami flair, so we had a live saxophonist play party music alongside our DJ and brought out LED glow sticks for the last hour of the reception. Our guests were all out on the dance floor until the end, with late-night pizza in hand.

Chic and Minimalistic Spring Restaurant Wedding

May 31, 2023 | justine

Lottie and Taylor shared a vision for their wedding: a small, city-chic celebration infused with the enchantment of the Christmas season. Despite the tight time frame of three months, they wholeheartedly dedicated themselves to planning every detail. The ultimate goal was to create an intimate atmosphere, surrounded exclusively by their core family and closest friends, who held a special place in their hearts. And their Spring Restaurant wedding perfectly embodied this—a heartfelt and purposeful celebration filled with warmth and love.

The couple exchanged their vows in the breathtaking Fitzrovia Chapel, a 19th-century architectural masterpiece steeped in history and Gothic charm. After their heartfelt ceremony, they proceeded to their restaurant venue for a sleek and sophisticated reception. With minimal decor and floral arrangements, all attention was focused on the newlyweds, highlighting their profound love and connection on this special day. In addition to the remarkable setting, the couple’s fashion choices added an extra touch of elegance. The bride showcased two distinct looks—a long white gown with a stunning cape for a classic touch during the chapel ceremony. Later, she changed into a short feathered mini dress, ready to dance the night away in style.

If you are inspired by modern, understated elegance with a touch of sophistication, the stunning photos captured by Junebug member Lynn Shapiro will surely captivate your imagination. Scroll down to feast your eyes on this restaurant wedding inspiration, and discover how unconventional couples are embracing unique ways to tie the knot.

The Couple:

Lottie and Taylor

The Wedding:

Fitzrovia Chapel, London, England

Why A Spring Restaurant Wedding

Our venue was a Spring Restaurant in Somerset House, an iconic London location. The aesthetic of the place was remarkable. With its pastel-toned decor and stunning high ceilings, it exuded elegance. Moreover, it boasted a beautiful atrium adorned with fairy lights. It was easy to imagine dancing under the magical ambiance created by those lights.

DIY Details And Unconventional Choices At Their Spring Restaurant Wedding

I took care of many DIY details for my wedding. I handled the favors, menus, place cards, and signage. Surprisingly, I even did my own hair for the special day! Planning everything so quickly without experiencing a panic attack was quite a challenge. To make it even more impressive, we managed to plan the entire wedding in just three months. Another unique aspect was that my husband and I gave speeches, which is uncommon in UK weddings.

Advice On Enjoying The Big Day To The Fullest

When it comes to wedding advice, it is best to simply enjoy it. The day goes by so fast, just as quickly as it began. Remember, everything will work out, so there’s no need to overthink every little detail. Most importantly, you get to marry the love of your life. Focus on the joy and excitement of the moment, and let the rest fall into place naturally.

Favors with a Harry Potter Twist and Customized Winter Candles

For favors, we chose peach schnapps served in shot glasses. We added burgundy ribbon and personalized stickers with a Harry Potter quote because I’m a big fan of Harry Potter! Another special touch was the candles we had. They had our initials on them and emitted delightful winter scents.

The Couple:

Lydia and Becca

The Wedding:

Biltmore Village Inn, Asheville, North Carolina, United States

The Inspiration Behind Their Boho Asheville B&B Wedding

First, we spent an afternoon creating a vision board with magazine clippings. We didn’t put much thought into it and instead, let our emotions guide us. Upon viewing our vision board, it became apparent that we both desired an outdoor wedding with exquisite details and flowers—a nearly ethereal, feminine ambiance. We also share a deep love for the mountains of NC, where our engagement took place, leading us to choose Asheville as our wedding location. We had already decided on an intimate wedding. By exclusively inviting immediate family, it allowed us to focus more on the finer elements. When we discovered the Biltmore Village Inn, everything fell into place. Lydia spent a year immersed in Pinterest, exploring “bohemian” and small wedding ideas. We began collecting various items, such as a gauze table runner, eclectic gold candlesticks, and amethyst crystal nameplates for our guests.

How They Came Across The Biltmore Village Inn

We wanted a mountain view and a place where everyone could stay. We googled bed and breakfasts in Asheville and found the perfect place, Biltmore Village Inn. After one visit to the beautiful grounds and a chat with Monica, the innkeeper, we knew we had found our venue.

An Unforgettably Perfect Rainy Ceremony Complete With A Rainbow

The day (actually, the entire weekend) was flawlessly perfect and remarkably stress-free. However, the most unforgettable aspect was undoubtedly the ceremony. The breathtaking view of the mountains provided a spectacular backdrop, and we were blessed with an incredible weather moment. Despite a forecast of a 100 percent chance of rain, the sun miraculously emerged just before our ceremony commenced. The most remarkable part occurred during the exchange of our vows, as a gentle sprinkle of rain graced us, followed by a magnificent rainbow stretching across the mountains.

Embracing The Unconventional With A Memorable Micro Wedding Weekend

You don’t have to follow the crowd just because “everyone is doing it” or to avoid hurting others’ feelings. In our case, we decided to take an unconventional route and opted for a micro wedding. Our main objective was to create an experience where our family would feel like they were on a delightful vacation, making it the most extraordinary weekend of our lives.

Setting the Perfect Tone: Creating A Romantic Atmosphere Through Music

Our deep passion for music was beautifully brought to life by our exceptional vendor, T Warner Artists, who graced our ceremony and cocktail hour with enchanting acoustic melodies. They went above and beyond, attentively learning and performing songs that held special significance to us. Seamlessly transitioning into the lively and upbeat DJ music for the reception, they ensured that the celebratory atmosphere remained vibrant throughout. As the night drew to a close, Ben, the guitarist, serenaded us with a heartfelt song by the fire. Making it an unforgettable late-night moment. We are immensely grateful to all our incredible vendors, with a special shoutout to the remarkable team at the Biltmore Village Inn and our talented photographer Jacqueline Franquez, the proud owner of Wayward Wanderess.

Pride In Design, Joyful Celebration, And Authenticity At Their Asheville B&B Wedding

We take great pride in witnessing the seamless integration of our design and the exquisite floral arrangements, which exceeded our expectations.  From our lively 2-year-old niece to our vivacious 80-something grandmother—we’re so happy ti know that they enjoyed themselves. Seeing our vision materialize in such a captivating manner fills us with pride beyond measure. We remained true to ourselves throughout the planning process, ensuring that the ambiance and vibe reflected our true desires. One of our most treasured photos captured a candid moment of my grandmother proudly waving a Pride flag, forever immortalizing a meaningful and cherished memory.

Image by Nikki Daskalakis. See more of this styled shoot here.

Don’t underestimate the power your reception table centerpieces have on pulling together your overall wedding design. Acting as the focal point of each table, it’s important to work with your vendors to assemble a table arrangement that’s unique and authentically represents your desired style. You can put your own spin on classic floral arrangements, thrift staple vintage pieces, or create a romantic ambiance with candles—it’s your wedding, your rules.

Centerpieces come in all shapes and sizes, ranging from tall and dramatic to simple and understated. And no matter which style you’re leaning towards, here are some of our favorite unique wedding table centerpieces you can use as inspiration.

Before diving into our inspiration, here are a few tips for your wedding reception centerpieces:

  • Keep your decor simple, having too many details can make your reception tables look cluttered and messy
  • Avoid tall centerpieces that block the line of sight of your guests
  • Space out your decor, leaving room for plates and glassware
  • Add personalization with a customized place setting that doubles as a wedding keepsake
  • Add depth and dimension to your flat tablescapes by using staple pieces that are a variety of different heights

Flower-Filled DIY Fremont Foundry Wedding

May 16, 2023 | justine

Jessica and Gracie’s Fremont Foundry wedding is a beautiful display of their creativity and dedication. Their modern industrial venue, vibrant color palette, and abundance of blooms all speak to their unique style. The couple’s impressive commitment to their perfect wedding aesthetic is also evident—they spent nearly two years thrift store shopping and creating DIY decor! It was a true labor of love, executed flawlessly with the help of their dream team of creative professionals.

Against the breathtaking panoramic views of the city, the couple exchanged their vows in a romantic rooftop terrace ceremony, surrounded by a lush floral arch that perfectly framed their special moment. The reception that followed–held at the atrium–was equally breathtaking thanks to long tables adorned with colorful vases filled with long-stemmed florals and elegant table settings under a canopy of fairy lights.

Captured by the talented Tori Osteraa, these gorgeous images showcase how the couple weaved personal and meaningful touches into every aspect of the celebration.. From the hand-painted place cards to the custom neon sign, you’ll see how even the smallest element can make a big impact when infused with a couple’s unique love story.

The Couple:

Jessica and Gracie

The Wedding:

Fremont Foundry, Washington, United States

The Design Inspiration Behind Their Fremont Foundry Wedding

As a couple, we have always been drawn to bright colors, warm tones, and a cozy feel. When thinking about what we wanted our wedding to look like, this is precisely what we had in mind. We wanted an explosion of colorful flowers, sentimental details, and personality in every area of the venue. In our search for vendors, we assembled a dream team of passionate and creative artists who shared our vision. Having all our ideas in pieces on Pinterest, we were nervous about how everything would come together. We gathered decor from thrift stores and worked on DIY projects for nearly two years before our big day. Magically, everything came together seamlessly. We loved seeing every tiny detail we spent so long creating, and we feel so blessed to have worked with amazing vendors we could trust.

Wedding Advice on How To Successfully Pull Off A DIY Wedding

Do a little bit every week. Planning a wedding can be stressful if you look at everything you have to do (especially if you love to DIY like us) at once. The trick was getting a few things done weekly, even if it felt too early to start.

Honoring The Memory Of Jessica’s Mother Through Thoughtful Wedding Details

Our wedding planning included Jessica’s reflection on perfectly honoring her late mother, Tammey. As such an extraordinary figure in Jessica’s life, confirming the details representing their relationship and acknowledging the weight of Tammey’s absence was no small feat. Jessica had her mom’s two-tiered veil altered to her style and wore it during the ceremony. Before exchanging vows, our officiant read a piece written by Jessica about her mom and led a moment of silence. Following this, we lit two candles displayed at the altar to symbolize this missing piece in our lives. Jessica has always felt her mom’s presence through music and inexplicable timing. It was no surprise that a band rehearsing at a nearby establishment interrupted our vows with a drum solo. This moment brought laughter and tears and made us all believe that Tammey was there with us.

The Thought And Care Behind Their Reception Aesthetic

Throughout the planning process, we knew that the dining setup would be something we spent a large portion of our time designing. We wanted long tables to fill the space, a private sweetheart table, and an explosion of vibrant colors. Every detail was thought out, from each hand-selected candle holder to the hand-painted name cards we DIY’d for each guest. We opted to have our cake set up in the same space to add to the sense of grandeur. We built a 9-foot-tall backdrop where we hung a custom neon sign. Seeing this space come together on our wedding day was so satisfying, and it turned out better than we could have imagined.

Guests Enjoyed a Fun Vintage Volkswagen Van Photo Booth Experience

We wanted each guest to leave our wedding with something memorable and something they would like to keep. We booked a photo booth in a vintage Volkswagen van where guests could take pictures and go home with photo strips from our special day. This was a fun activity for everyone to partake in, and the setup added a unique and show-stopping decor element.

Putting Their Heart And Soul Into Their First Dance

We intentionally planned time together throughout our wedding day, including our first dance. We spent the previous months agonizing over the perfect song that illustrated our love. After pulling off our dream ceremony and having time to feel at ease and take it all in, our first dance as wife and wife was the day’s most memorable moment. We held each other close, sang along, and tried to memorize every detail to carry with us through a lifetime.

Surprise Gifts On Their Wedding Day: A Live Painter and a Sentimental Ring

On our wedding day, we decided to exchange gifts during our first look to see the raw reaction to the surprises we had kept for so long. Jessica surprised Gracie by booking a live painter, who would create a real-time portrait of our first dance that we could take home at the end of the night. Gracie surprised Jessica with a diamond ring pressed from her late mother’s ashes. You can see raw emotions captured by our photographer as we exchange these special gifts with one another.

Wedding Terminology And Definitions

Alternative Wedding

An alternative wedding breaks the rules and does things differently. Instead of the traditional white dress and church ceremony, it might involve funky outfits, unique venues, and unconventional rituals. It’s all about celebrating love in a way that feels true to the couple’s personalities and values, even if it’s not what society expects.

Appliqué

It’s a decorative technique where designers add beautiful, intricate designs to the fabric of a wedding dress using things like lace, beads, and sequins. The end result is a dress that looks like it’s covered in delicate art. It’s the perfect way to add a touch of glamor to any attire.

Black Tie

Black tie is about as fancy as it gets.  It means guests are expected to wear their most elegant and formal attire, usually a tuxedo for men and a floor-length gown for women. It’s like dressing up for the Oscars or a royal ball.

Black Tie Optional

Black tie optional is a sophisticated dress code with some flexibility. It means guests can go all-out with their formal attire and wear a tuxedo or a long gown, or they can opt for a slightly less formal outfit like a suit or a cocktail dress. It’s like having the best of both worlds—the elegance of a black tie event with a touch of personal style.

Bridal Dresser

A bridal dresser is a professional who helps the bride get dressed on her wedding day. They are often experienced seamstresses who make sure the dress fits perfectly, help with any last-minute alterations, and assist with putting on accessories like the veil and jewelry.

Boutonniere

A boutonniere is a tiny floral accessory for the groom and his groomsmen. It’s a single flower or a small bunch of flowers that are pinned to the lapel of a suit jacket. It’s usually chosen to match the colors and theme of the wedding and is worn as a symbol of love and celebration.

Bustle

A bustle helps gather and secure the train of a wedding dress so that the bride can dance, walk around, and enjoy the reception without tripping. It’s either a hidden set of buttons, hooks, or loops that transforms a long, flowing gown into a more manageable length.

Buttercream

Buttercream is sweet, creamy frosting that covers a wedding cake. It’s usually made from a blend of butter, sugar, and vanilla and can be tinted to match the wedding colors or decorated with swirls, flowers, or other designs. Buttercream is popular for wedding cakes because it’s smooth, delicious, and easy to work with.

Canapé

Canapé is a small, bite-sized snack that’s usually served on a piece of bread or a cracker and topped with various savory or sweet ingredients. Canapés can be made with various ingredients, such as cheese, vegetables, fruits, and meats, and are often served on decorative platters.

Candelabra

A decorative stand or centerpiece that holds several candles at once, usually in a symmetrical or tiered arrangement. Candelabras can be made from materials like metal, crystal, or glass, and can be adorned with flowers, greenery, or other embellishments.

Celebrant (or Officiant)

A wedding celebrant or officiant is the person who makes the wedding official. They’re responsible for leading the wedding ceremony and making sure that the legal requirements are met. Celebrants can be religious or secular and can create a personalized ceremony that reflects the couple’s beliefs and values. They’re like the conductor of the wedding ceremony, making sure everything runs smoothly.

Chargers

They’re larger than traditional dinner plates and are usually made of a more durable material, such as metal or glass. Chargers are used as a base for the dinner plate and can be decorated with a variety of designs, such as metallic finishes, beading, or intricate patterns.

Corkage Fee

This fee is usually charged by the venue or caterer, which serves as a cover charge for bringing your own alcohol to the reception. It covers the cost of providing glasses, ice, and other related services to accommodate the couple’s outside alcohol. It’s important to check the corkage fee policy before bringing in outside alcohol to avoid any surprises on the wedding day

Crudite

A platter of fresh veggies and dip that’s served as an appetizer at the wedding reception or cocktail hour. It typically includes a colorful assortment of vegetables, such as carrots, cucumbers, peppers, and broccoli, and is served with a delicious dip, such as hummus or ranch dressing.

Escort Card

Escort cards are like a way to guide guests to their assigned tables at the reception. They typically include the guest’s name and table number and are often placed on a table near the entrance of the reception.

Event Designer

A professional who helps create the overall aesthetic of the wedding. They often work with the couple to determine a color scheme, select decor elements like centerpieces and lighting, and create a cohesive visual experience for guests. The difference between an event designer and wedding planner is the former focuses on the visual design elements of the wedding, while the latter takes care of all the logistical and organizational aspects of the event.

First Touch

A wedding first touch is a moment between the couple where they reach out to hold each other’s hand or embrace without actually seeing each other It’s often done to share a moment of support or prayer before the ceremony begins. It’s also a great option for couples who want to save the first look for when they walk down the aisle.

Flower Wall

A decorative backdrop made entirely of flowers and foliage, often used as a stunning focal point for wedding ceremonies, receptions, and photo backdrops.

Fondant

A type of icing used on wedding cakes that is made from sugar, corn syrup, and water. It is rolled out and draped over the cake to create a smooth, polished finish. Fondant can be molded and shaped into intricate designs and decorations, and is a popular choice for modern and elegant wedding cakes.

Formal

Formal attire refers to a dress code that requires guests to wear formal and elegant clothing, such as tuxedos, suits, gowns, and cocktail dresses. It is typically reserved for more upscale and traditional weddings.

A long, decorative piece made of foliage, flowers, and/or other materials, such as ribbons or lights, that is draped along the center of a wedding reception table. It adds a natural and organic touch to the table decor and can be customized to match the overall wedding theme and color scheme.

Gobo Lighting

Gobo lighting is a technique that projects a custom image or pattern onto a surface, such as a dance floor or wall, to enhance the ambiance and decor of the wedding. The image or pattern is created by a metal or glass stencil placed in front of the light source to control the shape of the light beam. This type of lighting can be used to display the couple’s names, monogram, or a decorative design that matches the wedding theme.

Grand Entrance

A grand entrance is a formal and dramatic introduction of the wedding couple to their wedding reception. It usually involves music, lights, and sometimes special effects to create a memorable moment for everyone in attendance.

Head Table

A designated seating area for the bride, groom, and the wedding party, usually placed in the front of the reception room or the center of the room facing the guests. It is often decorated more elaborately than the other tables in the reception area and can include special seating, such as chairs or a loveseat.

Honor Attendants

Honor attendants are the most important people for the couple in a wedding. Usually, the maid or matron of honor is the bride’s closest sister in age, but if she doesn’t have one, a friend, cousin, or aunt can step in. The groom usually chooses his closest brother in age to be his best man, but he can also ask a friend, cousin, uncle, or even his dad. If the bride is close to her brother or a male friend, she can also choose a man as her honor attendant.

For example, an in-house caterer would be a catering company that is associated with the wedding venue and operates on-site. Similarly, an in-house coordinator would be a wedding planner or coordinator who is employed by the venue to manage events and logistics.

Installation

An installation is like a magical, larger-than-life piece of art created specifically for your wedding. A large-scale decorative piece or arrangement—this could include things like floral installations, lighting installations, or unique structures that serve as a backdrop or focal point for the ceremony or reception.

Intimate Wedding

This type of celebration involves a limited number of guests, usually close family and friends. It is often characterized by a more personal and cozy atmosphere, with attention to small details and thoughtful touches. Intimate weddings can be held in every kind of  venue under the sun, from backyards to small event spaces, and may involve less elaborate decor and catering options.

Invitation Suite

This includes all the printed materials and stationery needed for a wedding invitation, such as the invitation itself, response card, and any additional enclosures like a reception card, directions card, or accommodation information. It’s called a “suite” because all the pieces are designed to match and coordinate with each other, creating a cohesive and stylish presentation for the wedding guests.

Letterpress

Letterpress printing is one of the most widely used printing techniques for wedding invitations. It involves inking a plate with raised text (like a rubber stamp) and pressing it into paper. If you want a more 3D look, ask about embossing and debossing. MOH

MOH stands for Maid (unmarried) or Matron of Honor (married). This person who will stand by the bride’s side on the wedding day is typically a sister or close friend, though your mother or grandmother could also be the MOH. The maid of honor typically organizes the bachelorette party and plays a role in the bridal shower. If you want her to stand out on your big day, you can have her carry a distinctive bouquet or wear a dress that is slightly different from the other bridesmaid dresses..

Mood Board

A mood board is a carefully curated collection of photos that convey the look and feel you hope to create through your wedding design. It can be designed on platforms like Pinterest, Photoshop, Canva–or a combination of the three.

Naked Cake

This is easy to identify because there is little to no icing on the outside to hide the texture and filling of the cake. The popularity of this style, which has been around for a long time, has only grown.

Nosegay Bouquet

A nosegay is a compact, hand-held floral arrangement that istypically carried by junior bridesmaids or bridesmaids to contrast in size with the bride’s larger and more elaborate bouquet.

Open Bar

An open bar implies you have wine, beer, and a complete bar of alcoholic beverages available to guests, just as at other gatherings and weddings. Because this can be pricey, there are a few alternatives to choose from to help you stay within budget.  To make the most out of your reception bar, check out this guide

Photo Booth

This piece of equipment is utilized during weddings to take amusing pictures of the guests. Compared to typical wedding photography, these images are more relaxed and quirky. Entertain your guests and capture some downright hilarious, in-the-moment photos with a creative photo booth.

Piping

The designs can be anything from simple dots and lines to elaborate flowers and lace patterns. Piping is often used to add a personal touch to a wedding cake and to make it look elegant and beautiful.

Place Cards

Plus One

Wedding plus one refers to the invitation extended to a guest, allowing the recipient to bring a date or a plus one to the wedding celebration. In general, married couples and established couples (who live together, for example) get plus-ones. The rules can vary depending on your budget, wedding size, and wedding vision. For everyone attending who might not know anyone else at the wedding, it’s also nice to consider a plus-one.

A wedding usher is a person who assists guests in finding their seats and makes sure everything runs smoothly during the wedding ceremony. They help ensure guests are comfortable and happy, making it a pleasant experience for everyone involved.

Vendor Meal

This meal is provided to the vendors working at the wedding, such as the photographer, DJ, or wedding planner. It’s a way to show appreciation for their hard work and ensure they have the energy to perform their duties throughout the event. The meal is usually a simplified version of the guest’s meal and is served separately from the reception.

Waistcoat

Also known as a vest, a waistcoat is a formal garment worn by grooms as part of their wedding attire. It’s typically made of a high-quality fabric and designed to match or complement the color and style of the groom’s suit. The waistcoat adds a touch of sophistication and elegance to the groom’s overall look.

Wedding Coordinator

A wedding coordinator is typically responsible for day-of coordination and ensuring that everything runs smoothly on the wedding day. They typically come on board closer to the wedding date and are responsible for coordinating with the vendors, managing logistics, and overseeing the setup and breakdown of the wedding, making sure the timeline is followed.

Wedding Hashtag

A wedding hashtag is a unique and personalized hashtag to collect all photos, videos, and social media posts related to your wedding. It makes it easy for you, your guests, and even your vendors to find all the content related to your wedding in one place. It can be a fun and creative way to involve your guests in your special day and create excitement around your wedding.

Wedding Program

A wedding program is a document that outlines the order of events and provides information about the wedding ceremony to guests. It generally includes details such as the names of the wedding party, the order of the ceremony, and any readings or songs that will be performed. It may also include other information, such as your love story or a note of thanks to the guests. The wedding program is usually distributed to guests before the ceremony and can act as a keepsake for guests to take home as a reminder of the special day.

Wedding Weekend

A wedding weekend refers to the multiple days of celebration and events surrounding a wedding day. It typically includes events such as a rehearsal dinner, welcome party, or post-wedding brunch, in addition to the actual wedding ceremony and reception. A wedding weekend is a great opportunity for guests to explore the local area and make memories with friends and family, which can be extremely important for those traveling all over the world for the big day.

Welcome Bag

This is a thoughtful gift that couples often provide to their out-of-town guests to welcome them and thank them for traveling to attend the wedding. The bag usually includes items such as snacks, water bottles, maps, and local recommendations to help guests feel more comfortable and familiar with the area. It can also include small gifts or personal touches such as a handwritten note or a customized item with the couple’s names or wedding date.

It’s important to familiarize yourself with these terms to ensure you fully understand the planning process and can communicate effectively with vendors. But it’s also essential that you feel comfortable about asking for clarification on any unfamiliar terms. And your wedding team is there to help educate and support you throughout your wedding journey. Now that you know all this wedding terminology, it’s time to put it to use!

If there’s one thing that’s sure to hit us in the feels, it’s a romantic wedding. We’re suckers for twinkling lights and all things enchanting. Creating a charming wedding involves so much more than just decor—the music, attire, and even the food all help to convey that enchanting mood you’ve been dreaming of. So if you’ve always dreamed of a wedding straight out of a storybook, you’re going to want to see these romantic wedding ideas.

1. Bring In All The Twinkle Lights

Twinkle lights–also known as fairy lights or string lights–are the perfect touch to any ceremony or reception space. We love how these little glowing bulbs create an essence of wonder and magic.

How to incorporate twinkle lights in your wedding: There are many ways you can incorporate lights into your wedding decor—both elaborately and subtly. For an elaborate look, consider seeing if your venue can drop lights from the ceiling or your ceremony space. If you want a more subtle twinkle you can add a few lights to your ceremony arch or backdrop for the perfect touch of twinkle.

2. Say “Yes” To A Sweetheart Table

If making sure to have special, intimate moments with your partner is a priority on your big day, then a sweetheart table is the way to go. These little tables also open the door for some incredible styling moments since your budget will stretch a little further when you’re just decorating a small tablescape.

Why we love this idea: Not only are sweetheart tables super romantic and stylish, but they also give you and your partner a bit of intimacy on your wedding night. You have all night to party with your friends/ Take this time to enjoy a delicious meal and snuggle up next to each other.

3. Choose Woodland-Inspired Details

There are a few words that come to mind when we think about romantic wedding ideas: fairy tale, enchanting, charming, delightful. Woodland-inspired details are all of those lovely adjectives. If you want decor that’s straight out of a storybook, consider these kinds of details.

How to incorporate woodland-inspired details into your decor: You can go big with large installations like a bar or ceremony backdrop, or keep it simple with small touches of pine or wooden name place cards.

4. Have A Candlelit Reception

Give us all the ambient lighting. We’re all about setting the mood with candles and dim lighting. You may want to make sure your photographer comes prepared for the low light, but we’re sure it will make for the most dazzling reception.

How to incorporate candle lighting into your wedding reception decor: First things first: Make sure your venue allows candles. If they don’t—not to worry—there are lots of non-flame candle options available these days. We also recommend consulting with your planner or venue about the best options for candles. You will want to choose something that doesn’t burn down quickly so they last as long as your party (or at least until dinner is over).

5. Treat Your Guests To A Fruit-Topped Cake

Why is fruit oh so lovely? We’re not complaining. There’s nothing we love more than a wedding cake topped with something a little extra something-something to make it pop–and fruit does just that.

What to ask for when ordering your cake: Keep in mind that exotic fruits may cost you a little extra, so it’s important to communicate your budget to the bakery. Trust your baker to recommend in-season fruits and what flavors pair well together.

6. Consider A Long Sleeve Dress or Ballgown

If you were to take one look at princesses and other royals, you’ll likely find they all have one thing in common–they’re wearing a long sleeve dress or a gown with a full skirt.

Why we love long-sleeved wedding dresses and ballgowns: A long-sleeved wedding dress doesn’t have to just be for fall and winter weddings (even though it’s the obvious choice). There’s something about that extra fabric that adds a touch of beauty and grace to a wedding day look. Bonus: Some dresses will have removable sleeves or arm cuffs if you want a mix of both styles. The same goes for ball gowns. Can’t commit to the fuller skirt? Pick a sheath gown with a removable skirt so you get the best of both worlds.

7. Incorporate Pearls

Pearls have become quite popular over these past couple of years, and there’s something about them that feels totally romantic. Think Little Mermaid brought to life. And because they’re still a fairly new trend, we don’t see them going anywhere anytime soon. Not to mention it’s a timeless detail that won’t go out of style years down the line.

Why we love pearls: Because pearls are so versatile, you can use them in everything from your veil to your jewelry to your bouquet to your decor. Our current personal favorite is pearl wedding shoes!

8. Hire A Band For Live Ceremony Music

If you’ve ever watched a Disney fairytale movie, you probably were moved by the music. Live ceremony music can be extremely powerful in conveying emotion and preparing your guest’s hearts for the sentimental moments to come.

Why we love live ceremony music: Want to make your guests cry?  Music helps to set the tone for the ceremony. If you’re wanting a passionate, emotional ceremony, a live band will help set the mood even before you walk down the aisle.

Go With A Textured Tux

From wool to tweed to velvet, there are many fabulous options for your wedding suit that will have you dripping in romance. While a classic black and white suit can also be very charming, there’s just something about texture and patterns that make an impact when you see your forever person waiting for you at the end of the aisle.

Why we love textured suits: Your wedding vibe is communicated through every choice—yes, even down to the suit choice. Textured fabrics give us all of those cozy, storybook feels that exude romance.

10. Rent A Dreamy Getaway Car

When we think of classic romance and wedding movies, we think of the couple riding off into the night in a dreamy getaway car. There’s just something about driving off as newlyweds on your wedding night (or after your ceremony) that gets us in our feels.

How to incorporate a getaway car into your wedding day: Make sure your planner or coordinator knows you’d like to have a getaway car. You can choose to “drive away” after your ceremony or reception. Important note: If you’ve been drinking at the reception make sure you have a plan for a DD.

11. End The Night With Fireworks

What says happily ever after more than a fireworks show? There’s nothing we can think of.

How to incorporate a fireworks show into your wedding day: While your reception is sure to be full of dancing and great music (especially if you hire a DJ), if you’re looking for more entertainment options for your guests, consider a fireworks show. It’s a great way to end the night and is a great replacement for a grand exit–or have them go off while you’re leaving! It’s your wedding and you can do what you want.
