Wild and Unforgettable Kenya Elopement at Masai Mara National Reserve

May 24, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Doris and Sam’s Kenya elopement is hands-down one of the most adventurous, exhilarating, and culturally diverse weddings we’ve had the honor of featuring on our blog! The couple spent their first day exploring the Sopa Resort at Lake Navaisha, where they encountered wild birds, giraffes, and zebras before hopping in a Land Cruiser for a safari tour through the Masai Mara Game Reserve. On the second day, they ventured out into the desert with a group of Maasai tribe members for a traditional Kenyan ceremony on the grounds of Governor’s Camp that included an ornate beaded collar worn by the bride, a jumping ritual performed by the groom, and a special blessing from the tribe’s elders. It’s hard to put into words the pure magic of this elopement, so we’ll let these phenomenal photographs captured by Tu Nguyen Wedding tell the full story.

The Couple:

Doris and Sam

The Wedding:

Governor’s Camp, Masai Mara, Kenya

From the photographer’s blog: Sam and Doris could totally share the same vivid wanderlust feeling toward Mara as me – You never know what’s around the corner. It could be everything. Or It could be nothing. You keep putting one foot in front of the other, and then one day you look back, you climbed a summit mountain. Or got married in Kenya, somewhere out in the middle of nowhere, with your best friend, surrounded by lions, elephants, leopards, buffalos and rhinos.”

Stepping into the enormous, chartreuse nine-seater Land Cruiser Jeep at Lake Naivasha, our game driver has warned us about the undeveloped road systems to (and in) Masai Mara deter heavy traffic and help to preserve the exclusivity of the experience for those who visit. That this 100-km road is the real deal of Masai Mara Game Reserve. I only smiled.

SHOP THIS LOOK

I remember Sam singing, dancing and whooping with the young Masai men – the traditional Masai jumping dance to prove their strength and manpower to the women. I remember the Masai elders spitting milk on the feet of Sam and Doris as a blessing of always having plenty of food and healthy children.”

I just felt that we have something different in our souls now, our hearts feel heavier because of the spirit of a new world that has just been built. You know over time, these brilliant images will keep dancing and showing up as the most beautiful memories: friends, lover and fellow human beings. My adventure with Sam and Doris has come to an end, to open up a new journey into the future.

The Wedding Team:

Photography – Tu Nguyen Wedding
Venue – Governor’s Camp and Sopa Resort
Bride’s Shoes – Dolce & Gabbana

Our biggest congratulations to Doris and Sam, and an extra special thanks to Junebug member Tu Nguyen Wedding for sharing this incredible elopement with us! Now that you’ve got a taste of this photographer’s work, you’re going to want to check out this remote and rustic Vietnamese elopement at Núi Hàm Lợn!

January 24, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

creative table runner ideas

When it comes to reception table styling, the options are endless! Filling long tables can make this task a little daunting with so much space to decorate. A great table runner can be a real wedding décor workhorse, both in the space it occupies and the sense of personality it offers. When you close your eyes, what do you envision beneath your centerpieces and table numbers? Don’t have a clear vision? Get inspired by these 34 creative table runner ideas; there’s something here for everyone!

Crêpe

The crinkled, effortless look of crêpe adds a dose of romantic charm to your table decor and overall reception ambiance. You truly can’t go wrong with crêpe, whether you’re inside or outside, or use the lightweight fabric on your all farm tables in a soft neutral shade or just to highlight your sweetheart table with a bold-hued fabric!

Moss

Whether your reception is indoors or outdoors, a strip of moss down the center of your table achieves a perfectly au natural affect. Complement the moss with other natural accents like driftwood, antlers, fruit and berries, terrariums, and small arrangements of flowers. We also love the addition of a few tall candlesticks to give your look some levels!

Macramé

It’s no secret that macramé is a huge trend right now. Macramé table runners give your reception a bohemian feel that simultaneously relaxes your guests and impresses them with your attention to detail. Complement your macramé table runner with wildly arranged florals and greenery and an eclectic assortment of vases and tableware.

Garland of Greenery

Talk about killing two birds with one stone! Instead of a table runner and centerpieces, opt for a lush garland of greenery down the center of your farm tables. Coordinate with your florist to select interesting leaf shapes and pairings. Keep it natural and minimalist with a garland of pure greenery, or give your tables a pop of color with a few blooms scattered along the garland!

Patterned

We’ve got a soft spot for beautiful patterns, and your table runner is a great place to employ them! Throwing a destination wedding? Use local textiles in unique prints to wow your guests. Got an especially bold print? A black and white fabric keeps things from getting too busy with everything else going on in your table décor.

Sequins

For some brides, a wedding isn’t a wedding without a little sparkle! One of our favorite places to see the glitz and glam is in a sequin table runner. Play with volume in the width of your sequin fabric, size of your sequins, and the space between each sparkly circle.

Sweet and Sparkly Leicestershire Wedding at The Old Stables

October 15, 2016 | Junebug Weddings

sweet-and-sparkly-leicestershire-wedding-at-the-old-stables-18

Retro romantic flair, super sweet bridal style, and mind-blowing floral design make this classic English countryside wedding a real charmer! Naomi and Isaac hosted their ceremony in a charming church then wowed guests with stunning tablescapes and Isaac’s DIY chocolates at their reception at The Old Stables. We can’t get enough of Naomi’s sparkly Sottero and Midgley gown, perfectly natural makeup, and incredible peony-based bouquet. Matt Horan Photography beautifully captured every moment of Naomi and Isaac’s wedding!

The Couple:

The Wedding:

It was important to us to keep the vibe of our wedding relaxed and informal; we wanted to do things our way rather than follow what was ‘meant’ to be done. A strong criteria of our church and venue was that we didn’t have strict rules to follow! We also wanted to make sure that everyone had a good time celebrating, so we tried to think about what would be important to our guests on the day too.

Matt Horan is an excellent photographer and a wonderful person to be around, and working with him on our wedding day came very naturally. He made us feel at ease whilst taking our photos, whatever the point in the day. It was a pleasure to see him laughing and having fun with our guests, and he captured some really fun and natural shots which are some of our favourites. We absolutely love our photos and cannot thank Matt enough for capturing our day perfectly.

We’ve been to weddings before where the favours have been left behind in the excitement of the day. We wanted our guests to choose their own favours to make sure they took them! With Isaac being a chocolatier, it was an easy choice for him to make the handmade chocolates. We then arranged them on cake stands and marble for our guests to enjoy on the day and to fill a box to take home.

Our advice: Don’t lose sight that it’s a day of celebration and that people are happy if they see that you are happy. Also make sure you give the best man a time limit on his speech!

The most memorable part of the day for us was our first dance. We’ll never forget everyone’s faces when the dubstep base line dropped and the confetti cannons exploded! It was amazing to dance to an all time favourite song with all our loved ones getting into the spirit of it too.

What To Put On Your Farm Table to Make Your Wedding Reception Beautifully Yours

August 2, 2016 | Junebug Weddings

what to put on your farm table

The decision between long, round, or square tables has never been easier; farm tables are the obvious answer! Not only does this arrangement help a large reception feel intimate, but the design options are endless. An infinite amount of décor ideas can be a little overwhelming, so we’ve rounded up some of our favorite receptions to help you figure out what to put on your farm table to make your wedding reception beautifully yours.

Jewel Tone Linens

The perfect pairing for a rustic-style reception is a rich jewel tone palette and a long farm table. Crushed velvet teal table runners, aubergine napkins, and emerald accessories elevate the look of any venue, while giving your guests that warm, fuzzy feeling!

Voluminous Centerpieces

While some choose to decorate with smaller pieces down the length of the table, others make a statement with a few voluminous centerpieces. Designing a grand display with your florist can take your take your table from farm to fabulous!

Greenery Down the Middle

These days, you rarely see a farm table without a lush surplus of greenery placed down the middle. Eucalyptus is a popular choice, but other leaves like ferns and even tropical fronds can change the tone of your whole table design.

Colorful Glassware

Everybody loves a pop of color, and decorating your farm table is no different! We’re big fans of colorful glassware here at Junebug. Whether you choose an eclectic arrangement of textures and colors or streamline your design with a single style and hue, colored glassware is a practical and beautiful décor element!

Statement Table Runners

We’re always looking for places to add a little texture and pattern into reception styling. A statement runner on your farm table can be the root of your thematic design. Macrame makes for a boho look, black and white stripes exhibit glamour, and an intricate print can add to an eclectic arrangement.

20 Vase Alternatives You Haven’t Considered For Your Wedding Tablescape

July 13, 2016 | Junebug Weddings

vase alternative feature final

Step aside, candle votives and glass vases – the easiest and most fun way to spice up your wedding tablescape is by using vase alternatives! Between roller skates and coffee cans, these vase alternatives offer tons of personality and are anything but traditional.

1. UPCYCLED MATERIALS

There’s nothing that gets our DIY-loving selves as excited as when we spot upcycled materials used in wedding décor! These weddings use embellished bottles and coffee cans for their reception tablescapes to create a timeless feel. These looks are super easy to create – just save your used veggie cans and wine bottles, strip their labels (or keep them for added color!), and stick some flowers or succulents in them! Cluster bottles and cans of different heights together for added tablescape depth, or try spray painting them for a more uniform feel.

2. PLANTERS AND POTS

Succulents, garden herbs, and wild greenery are definitely having a moment in wedding décor, so it only makes sense that their planters and pots are too! These creative weddings used clusters of terracotta pots and low, wide planters to display their green tablescapes. Accents of copper, clear glass, and white florals add a bit of depth to an otherwise earthy display. To maximize your planter and pot tablescape’s function, have guests take home a small pot of herbs as a wedding favor after the reception!

3. TERRARIUMS

These crystal clear beauties are popping up at more and more weddings, and there’s no wonder why! Terrariums are totally gorgeous, come in every shape and size, and the options of decorating their interiors are limitless. You can choose one large terrarium to be the accent piece of a tablescape, or try a cluster of smaller terrariums to create a dynamic display. For a dreamy, minimalist look, try recreating Transplants Floral‘s coral display by hanging a piece of coral or a gem from fishing line and suspending it from the top of the terrarium to create a floating illusion.

4. UNEXPECTED ITEMS

These weddings went above and beyond the call of duty by selecting totally unexpected items to display their tablescape décor and florals. We can’t get enough of the roller skate vase alternative one wedding chose – it’s the perfect combo of retro and eclectic! To achieve a quirky, playful tablescape, a couple of these weddings displayed succulents and ferns inside small dinosaur figurines. Try a fun and modern spin on a tablescape display by completely forgoing the florals and stuffing a small, antique statue from a craft store with gems and petite greenery details.

5. UNIQUE GLASSWARE

These three weddings take the traditional elements of glass vases and totally turn them upside down! From Erlenmeyer flasks to glass bowls, we can’t get enough of these unique additions to their wedding tablescapes. We love the terrarium-like design in the large glass bowl – the addition of rocks, soil, and quirky figurines create the appearance of a landscape.

6. VINTAGE DISHES AND CHINA

If you’re planning a rustic and romantic wedding reception, vintage dishes and china are the vase alternatives for you! These weddings used vintage china teapots, teacups, and large pitchers in lieu of glass vases to create a dramatic, romantic effect. Large bunches of flowers and greenery work best with these designs as they round out the fullness of the china!

rainbow-Elizabeth-Ducan (4 of 6)

Every couple deserves a color palette and wedding design that is true to their style. That’s why Elizabeth Duncan Events has put together four distinctive table-setting designs that are sure to inspire creativity this wedding season! Pulling this season’s inspiration straight from the runway, Elizabeth tells you her creative process along the way.

Colorful Party

Pops of color add a punch here and there, but, this year, the runways were full of rainbow stripes. Blending this trend with bold geometrics and a little Kate Spade preppy chic, resulted in a fun and vibrant design.

Sweet Sunshine

Sunshine and happiness go hand in hand. That’s why we took a cue from Jenny Packham’s 2015 line and let yellow be our inspiration for a tropical beach-inspired wedding. Palm leaves, pineapples, and plenty of bright yellow blooms are a perfect way to brighten your wedding day.
