Brunch Wedding Ideas for the Early Birds & Breakfast Lovers

February 22, 2023 | riley

Image by  Meagan Lawler Photography. See more of this brunch wedding here

While weddings are traditionally in the evening, we’re seeing more and more couples break the wedding norms and host a day that’s personalized to them. For many, this means hosting the brunch wedding of their dreams, complete with pancakes and waffles, mimosas, and garden views. If this is something that you’re interested in but you’re not sure how to pull it all together, you’re in luck. We’re rounding up brunch wedding ideas that are sure to be a hit for your early celebration.

Brunch Wedding Ideas

Ceremony & Reception Brunch Wedding Ideas

Pre-Ceremony Pastries & Cocoa

Worried about guests going hungry before the reception? Before your guests take their seats, warm their hearts and their stomachs with hot cocoa or coffee and assorted fresh pastries. They’ll thank you later–especially if your ceremony is on the longer side.

Host It Outdoors

When we think of brunch weddings, we think of spring. And with spring comes beautiful weather. If you’re hosting a daytime affair, turn it into a garden party with flowers galore.

Coffee Pouring Unity Ceremony

Nothing says brunch more than coffee. Instead of the traditional sand-pouring or candle-lighting unity ceremony, incorporate the breakfast beverage into the ceremony by making a perfect cup of coffee together at the altar while you exchange vows.

Put Together A Playlist

Because daytime weddings are typically a bit more laidback, you don’t have to worry about having the perfect DJ to keep everyone on the dance floor all night long. Because of this, you can save a little extra money by creating your own playlist full of upbeat, happy music that guests will enjoy while sipping on their breakfast cocktails.

Organize An After Party

If you have guests flying in for your big day, keep the celebration going after the wedding ends. Whether you hit the beach, embark on a hike, lounge by the pool of your Airbnb, or organize a dinner, hosting an after-party will keep the party going even after your wedding ends.

Wedding Dresses

While we support going all out for your brunch wedding look, you may find that a wedding gown is a little much for your low-key day. Instead, try a little white dress with an extra something special–like sparkles, fringe, or ruffles. If a long gown is more your style, look for something lightweight and bohemian for a more casual look.

Suits

Since a brunch wedding is on the more casual side, a groom and his groomsmen don’t need to suit up in full tuxes to say “I do.” For a day wedding, we recommend choosing a blazer and slacks in a lighter color–such as beige, sage green, dusty blue, or pink–and fabric–like a linen or cotton blend.

Bridesmaid Dresses

Instead of dressing your wedding party in traditional bridesmaid dresses, welcome them to choose a floral or pastel dress they’d wear to a regular girl’s day out. Chances are they already have something in their closet, but if not, they’ll love the excuse to add a new dress to their collection.

Drinks

Barista for Hire

Instead of hiring a bartender for your reception, bring in an expert barista to make custom lattes, cappuccinos, and more for your guests. We love the idea of hiring one of your favorite local coffee shops to help cater. Bonus if your barista is a latte-art pro, too!

Make Your Own Mimosas

No brunch wedding is complete without mimosas. Because there are so many incredible juice options out there, hosting a mimosa bar where guests can choose their favorites (pineapple, orange, cranberry, mango, etc.) is a must. And it gives you the perfect chance to decorate your reception with fun signage and glassware.

Bloody Mary Bar

The best part about drinking a Bloody Mary is the concoction of extras you can put in your drink. From olives to citrus fruits to bacon, help your guests create the Bloody Mary of their wildest dreams with an open bar of delicious add-ons.

Food

Appetizers: French Toast sticks & Syrup Dipper

In lieu of traditional wedding reception appetizers, surprise guests with the sweet treat of French toast sticks and syrup dippers.

Main Dish: Build-a-Breakfast

Love pancakes and waffles? Omelets? Breakfast tacos? Of course, you do. And we’re sure your guests do too. To maximize your breakfast potential, let your guests create their own sweet or savory breakfast with a variety of toppings for the dishes of their choice.

Dessert: Donut Tower

We’re all for eating cake for breakfast, but if you want to ditch the idea of a wedding cake, consider having a donut tower instead.

Mug + Coffee Beans

Jars of Jam

Keep the brunch love going by gifting your guests jars of jam for a delicious breakfast on the go.

Speaking of the sun, a morning wedding means it may be extra bright out for your guests who want to be able to see you say “I do.” Help them shade their eyes in style with a cute pair of sunnies when they take their seats.

Sentimental And Boho Bird’s Eye Cove Farm Wedding

October 17, 2022 | justine

A charming barn venue, dreamy floral arrangements, and ethereal wedding fashion—Jessica and Christopher’s Bird’s Eye Cove Farm wedding is a dream come true for those who love boho vibes and a rustic, cozy atmosphere. And not only that, their celebration was filled with thoughtful touches that were personal to them and the people they love the most. There was so much love poured into every detail, making their day that much more special and unforgettable.

Their big day was definitely a family affair, starting with a sweet first look with Jessica’s dad, followed by a beautiful ceremony with the bride sharing the spotlight with their daughter. The barn doors, feathery pampas, and the picturesque setting of rolling hills and fields made for a beautiful backdrop for their heartfelt vow exchange. And to top it all off, the couple’s dreamy style perfectly fit the gorgeous countryside landscape. The glowing bride showed off her baby bump in a flowy dress featuring an illusion neckline, statement sleeves, and puddle train.

The sentimental and intimate nature of the celebration mixed with the earthy and carefree style, truly brought this wedding together. Scroll through these swoon-worthy images captured by Junebug member Rivkah Photography to discover unique ideas that’ll inspire you to weave your love story into your big day.

Personalizing Their Bird’s Eye Cove Farm Wedding By Including Their Loved Ones

We incorporated our family in many different ways. Our sweet little Louisa walked down the aisle before me. Chris got down on one knee, gave her a ring pop, vowed his unconditional love and protection, and asked her if he could marry her mommy. My dad had just rebuilt a 1950’s Chevy delivery van and I shocked him by asking if he would drive us to the altar in his new wheels. He was so, so excited! It was an extraordinary father-daughter moment. Growing up, my mom was a superwoman. She was our rock and our world. Even when I was in my teens, I always knew I wanted both my parents to walk me down the aisle. So my dad drove us up to the altar, where my mom was waiting for us, and I got to walk with them, hand in hand, to my fiancé waiting for me in front of an old barn to say I do.

Writing Their Own Vows Was Difficult But Worth It

The most memorable part of the day for me would, hands down, be saying my vows out loud to Chris. It was so unbelievably emotional. So powerful and magical. It brought up such intense feelings and memories and filled my heart with gratitude and love for the man I was about to marry. My vows didn’t come to me easily. I tried to write them weeks in advance but could never put thought to paper. It wasn’t until the night before that all the words came pouring out of me, and truthfully, they were the best vows I could have ever written.

Honoring Loved Ones Who Have Passed With The Bridal Fashion

My late fiancé Clinton (before Chris) passed away almost six years ago. Clinton is tethered to me in a way I can’t explain. He is such an important part of my existence and I am the person Chris fell in love with because of Clinton. I just needed to have a piece of him with me on my wedding day. In honor of Clinton, I wore his great aunt’s light pink double-layered pearl necklace. Putting this on was heartbreaking and mending at the same time. It’s a moment that means so much to me, and I will never forget it. Also, the bracelet wrapped around my bouquet belonged to my husband’s mom, who passed away when Chris was only three years old. This bracelet was given to me by Chris’ godmother, and it’s one of my most treasured belongings. Not having my mother-in-law in my life has left so many holes in my heart and world. I gripped that bracelet and my bouquet as if I was holding her hand. It felt like she was beside me, giving me all the love and comfort I needed and wanted that day. I’ve never met her, but I love her so deeply.

Maximizing Time With Loved Ones By Extending The Celebration

We rented the most extraordinary, jaw-dropping Airbnb in our hometown, which was perfect! Because we didn’t go right back to everyday life, it’s like we got to continue our wedding celebrations, and to top it off, we had our daughter and family members. That meant so much to us there. It was the best decision.

Embracing Being A Pregnant Bride

At first, I was confused about how I felt being eight months pregnant with our second child on our wedding day. It’s something I never dreamt of or envisioned for my wedding. But now, it’s one of my favorite parts. I am so in love and obsessed that our son was there, in my belly, and that I was a glowing pregnant mama bride. I couldn’t imagine it any other way now and just thinking about it makes me feel so smitten.

A Surprise Proposal On The Day Of Their Bird’s Eye Cove Farm Wedding

Chris proposed to me on our wedding day. We have a young daughter together and are expecting our second. Because the diamond for my ring was in Ontario and wouldn’t arrive until two days before the wedding, he couldn’t propose sooner. I had no idea that this was happening–that he was waiting on an heirloom diamond for my engagement ring. The morning of our wedding day, I got called out to the lower balcony of our Airbnb, where Chris was waiting for me. At first, I was confused, and then it all hit me. How could I be so nervous when we were already getting married? But I was. My heart started beating out of my chest as he got down on one knee and made me the funniest and sweetest promises for life.

Perfectly Pink, Blue, and Completely Free Wedding

February 6, 2022 | riley

In response to the events of June 2020 and support of Black Lives Matter, Austin wedding planner Ashley Nicole Affair recruited more than 30 vendors to give away a free wedding to a well-deserving couple that has advocated for racial equality and education in the community. Because of their involvement in the fight for social justice, Cliff Styles, a retired army veteran, and Meme Styles, founder of the organization MEASURE, were awarded this perfectly pink, blue, and free wedding.

The couple was surrounded by family and friends as they exchanged their vows during their charming outdoor ceremony at The Union on Eighth. It was followed by a beautiful reception, a night of dancing, and delicious food. From the vintage glam wedding attire to the stunning decor and lavish feast—their vendors really went all out for their celebration.

It’s exciting and heartwarming to see a community of vendors support such an outstanding couple. Scroll through to get to know this couple’s incredible journey and see all of the gorgeous wedding details and unforgettable moments captured by Junebug photographer Alexandra White Photo!

A Free Wedding That Made A Difference

I am so proud and grateful for the vendors and people that went out of their way to bless us with this free dream wedding. So many people and companies said they supported the Black Lives Matter movement, but these vendors actually committed their time and resources to give back. Ashley Nicole Affair was a real blessing for arranging such a great surprise for our family.

Symbolic Wedding Tradition

On the day of the wedding, two of my bridesmaids created the broom that we jumped over. In African-American culture, our ancestors used to jump over the broom to symbolize their marriage commitment. Using paper bags, ribbon, and flowers, those two ladies created a beautiful forever family heirloom that I now hope to pass on to my kids.

The Most Memorable Part Of The Day

The most memorable part of the day was our moments together during our photo and video session. Time stood still as we had those brief moments to just gaze into each other’s eyes and hold one another under the setting sun. We danced with each other and kissed and had so much joy during that photoshoot.

Meaningful Wedding Favors

Each morning Cliff and I enjoy coffee with honey for breakfast, so our wedding guests all received a jar of honey and a honeycomb. They also received a custom coaster.

Ashley Nicole Affair’s Thoughts On The Winners Of The Free Wedding Giveaway

Meme and Cliff were absolutely incredible to work with, and the entire day was so perfect. It was an honor to be part of a wedding where everyone was helping where needed, and we were all there for the same thing—to show thanks to Meme and Cliff for the difference they’ve made in the Austin community.

Golden California Wedding at Hummingbird Nest Ranch

March 20, 2020 | brooke

Calling all romantics: Lauren and Edmond’s golden California wedding at Hummingbird Nest Ranch will have your wedding Pinterest board filled with so much inspiration! Encore Event Design helped the couple pull off their vision with stunning floral installations, modern touches, and decor that will leave you swooning. The floral arrangements Unique Floral Designs created for this day were an absolute dream—we’re obsessed with the flower wall ceremony backdrop, as well as Lauren’s long-stemmed bouquet with simple and elegant white roses. If chic bridal style is what you’re looking for, look no further than this crew. Lauren looked positively stunning in her long-sleeve Galia Lahav gown, and we love that her girls were also dressed in white! We’re feeling grateful the talented Jordan Voth was there to capture all of the magic and sweet, emotional moments.

The Couple:

Lauren & Edmond

The Wedding:

Hummingbird Nest Ranch, California

I wore the “Bella” gown by Galia Lahav. It was a dress beyond my wildest dreams. I had tried on many other gowns by amazing designers, but none of them made me feel as beautiful as this one did. My bridesmaids wore Ivory dresses by Katie May Collection. I loved the concept of bridesmaids in Ivory, because it was bold and different. All the dresses were the same color, but different style. They each chose which style they wanted to wear which made it extra special.

We always knew wanted an outdoor venue. Hummingbird Nest Ranch checked all the boxes. It was such a beautiful property with plenty of greenery and beautiful architecture. The flow from ceremony to cocktail hour to reception made it effortless for guests. And while it had plenty of beauty on its own, it also was completely customizable. There were no major restrictions from a design perspective. We really had free range to bring in all our lighting, flowers, music and decor.

We read our vows to each other out loud during the ceremony. Both of us had written from the heart, but also mixed things up with some inside jokes. It made for a very entertaining moment, and one neither us nor our guests will forget.

We really wanted our wedding to feel magical. I turned to Pinterest and Instagram for all my wedding day dream inspo, and worked tirelessly with my vendors to bring my interpretation of them to life. Our wedding had a very elegant style but with personality. We stuck with neutral colors (light grey table cloths, ivory roses, and dark greenery).

This Free-Spirited Sauvie Island Wedding Will Steal Your Heart India Earl-18

Olga and Chris’ Sauvie Island wedding was a lovely bohemian dream come to life! After a heart-warming first look, the couple exchanged vows in an intimate backyard ceremony where friends and family prayed over them to bless the start of their new life journey. You could see the couple’s style in every detail, from the macrame hangings to the custom wedding invitations to the bride’s gorgeous Dreamers and Lovers wedding dress. At the reception, they shared a feast of Thai food from The Lamb’s Table, then ended the day with dancing and singing in the middle of the woods. Photographer India Earl truly captured the magical energy of Olga and Chris’ special day!

Honestly, what I thought I would wear and what I wore couldn’t have been more different. I found some fun yellow velvet shoes first and thought I would find a fringy fun bohemian dress to wear. Once I went to dress shopping, I fell in love with how this dress looked on me and had to have it! I had to change the shoes and all the details after the dress was decided.

For our gifts to each other, we wrote letters that we read the morning of the wedding. Chris included a little locket with a photo of him from when we first met, and I included tickets to see Sigur Ros (the artist that sings the song we walked down the aisle to).

From the photographer: We drove out to the island for the first look, where we found Chris standing on the opposite side of the lake. They walked towards one another, and Chris dropped the flower he had picked for her because the tears started flowing.

Sauvie Island was always a very special place to us. We’re birding nerds, so we like to go watch birds out there. It’s very peaceful and full of magic. It’s one of the first places we hung out together as a couple, the place where he proposed, and the only place we wanted to get married. The venue we found was the only place we were allowed to hold a wedding on the island.

I wanted the wedding party to feel comfortable and like themselves. The girls all wore different dresses with brown booties and whatever accessories they wanted. The guys wore denim jackets, black pants, brown shoes, and a floral tie. They had a lot of freedom in how they wanted to style it.

We had my brother marry us, which was very special to me. We also had all of the guests to come up and lay hands on us as we had a prayer of blessing prayed over us. It was important to us to have everyone at the wedding participate in our union.

Walking down the aisle was especially emotional for us because the song that was playing was a song we would only play when we had a new wonderful experience or saw a beautiful scene, and it held a lot of magic and emotion in it for us. We knew this would be the most magical moment of our lives!

Everything was DIY! We made macrame arches and tassels all week. We even DIYed the napkins. We also made our own wedding invitations. It was a pain in the butt, but I think I can say it was worth it!

It was really hard to stick to just one look/vibe. I just picked the things that I liked and hoped they worked together. Luckily, we had John Dunfee, Chris‘ best man, to help with the overall design of the day, so he filtered all my ideas to create a cohesive look.

An Alpaca Almost Stole the Spotlight in This Hummingbird Nest Ranch Wedding

August 14, 2016 | gabby

an-alpaca-almost-stole-the-spotlight-in-this-hummingbird-nest-ranch-wedding-22

Between its alpaca photo booth, personal vintage accents, and effortlessly free spirit, this Southern California wedding channels bohemian Wes Anderson in all the right ways! Lindsay and Christopher knew that they wanted every inch of their Hummingbird Nest Ranch wedding to truly reflect themselves and, judging from the smiles that photographer The Shalom Imaginative captured, they succeeded. Quirky boho brides take note: Lindsay’s ethereal Stevie Nicks-meets-Gold Rush gown and Civil War re-enactment boots are a must see!

The Couple:

Lindsay and Christopher

The Wedding:

Lindsay wanted to look like Stevie Nicks had gone to the Gold Rush and got mixed up with a band of fairies. The sisters (Kite and Butterfly) that designed her dress are absolutely magical and have an enchanted studio in the Hollywood Hills where they do their fittings. It was intimate and personal and made the dress so special. Lindsay‘s boots are from a company that makes Civil War re-enactment gear (!!!) and her best friend from elementary school made the flower crown.

We wanted the wedding to feeling like “us” — which sounds a little cliché, but to us meant having a certain degree of chaos, an alpaca, lots of 90’s hip hop, and inventing new traditions instead of abiding by the old. We wanted our dog to be everywhere and part of everything, so we made sure she had a buddy to keep an eye on her at all times.

The bridesmaids wore any maxi dress they wanted as long as it was in the neutral color palate and the groomsmen were asked to wear some sort of gray tux with a neutral tie. We wanted our friends to feel happy and comfortable in clothes THEY liked to wear.

We personalized our ceremony in so many wonderful, meaningful ways. Both Lindsay‘s parents walked her down the aisle, her godfather/uncle served as the officiant, our dog was in the Pup of Honor, we wrote our own vows that included jokes about butts, and the big “reading” was just a small passage by Carl Sagan about the connectedness of the universe. We kept it fast, funny, and sweet.

We each picked three things that really mattered to us and agreed to not care about the rest… that meant delegating stuff to friends and family or ignoring less important details completely. This saved us a ton of money and stress! Video, photography, and music are so important to your guests’ enjoyment of the night and your memories of it. Do not underestimate their power!

These Two Free People Dresses are Engagement Photo Perfection

May 25, 2016 | editorial team

These-Two-Free-People-Dresses-are-Engagement-Photo-Perfection-15

Katy and Logan began their photo shoot at their home in Knoxville, Tennessee — the same place Logan proposed to Katy not too long ago. After posing for some adorable pictures on the porch, Katy and Logan ventured out to Seven Islands State Birding Park just before the sun began to set. Katy wore two red Free People dresses during the photo shoot as she held a bundle of eucalyptus and other greenery. Abby Weeden Photography & Design captured some great pictures of Katy and Logan as they watched the setting sun.

Glam Palm Springs Wedding at Thunderbird Country Club

September 5, 2015 | jackie

Glam-Palm-Springs-Wedding-at-Thunderbird-Country-Club (16 of 29)

Metallic silver bridesmaid gowns, unique floral arrangements, and iconic palm trees all came together to create Lane and Travis’ glamorous wedding at Thunderbird Country Club in Palm Springs, California! Cocktail hour, filled with classic drinks and Frank Sinatra, brought a vintage glamor that perfectly fit this fun couple! The amazing Joel & Justyna photographed playful images of the couple at their beautiful, sunny wedding!

The Couple:

Lane and Travis

The Wedding:

Thunderbird Country Club, Palm Springs, California

The Inspiration:

Our vision was simple: we wanted a big party to celebrate all of our favorite people being in one place. For us, that meant having a killer band, plenty of drinks and a big dance floor. We also wanted to cash in on the Palm Springs rat pack vibe so cocktail hour and dinner were packed with Frank Sinatra, cafe lights and Palm Springs spritzers (It helps that our band’s lead singer Aalsohas a Frank Sinatra tribute band so they totally killed it) Later they changed into rock clothes and played a full set of classic rock throwbacks and got EVERYONE dancing! (talk about versatile!) Our decor inspiration was eclectic glamour. We went with a palate of mixed metallics, eccentric vases of all different sizes and metals (copper, brass, mercury and milk glass) filled with lush, full faced flowers and whimsical greens contrasted with succulents and single bud vases for unique florals that complimented the outdoor surroundings. The desert in the spring is absolutely magical and we did not want to take away from any of that! Fresh flowers everywhere, bright green grass and the smell of citrus in the air- there is a reason we chose March in Palm Springs!

The Moments:

The best moments of the day were of course when we got to see each other for the first time walking down the isle- it’s hard to prepare for how special that moment is!! Also, we had about three free minutes when we were able to sneak away between pictures and our big entrance- we saw the reception area for the first time and were able to watch our bridal party being announced and trying to top each others dance moves and in that moment realized what an amazing celebration it really was and how special to have the people who mean the most in the world to us in one place. Thank you to everyone that was a part of our most treasured day!

2018 Wedding Trends You’ll Want to Use for Your Big Day

January 2, 2018 | nicole

Are you in the midst of planning a 2018 wedding? Shake up your wedding design with the latest in wedding trends! The great thing about trends, whether in fashion, interior design, or wedding decor, is that you can pick and choose what resonates with you to add a modern touch to your overall look. From bridal fashion to what to do with your table decor (spoiler alert: it’s not what you might think!), these 2018 wedding trends have a little something for every upcoming wedding.

Celestial Themes

Couples are seeing stars in their wedding design for 2018 and we think that idea is out of this world! Whether you take design cues from literal space – the sun, moon, and stars – or space-adjacent ideas like astrology, there are so many unique and beautiful ways to add a celestial vibe to your wedding. We especially love the use of moon phases and constellations in the wedding decor below!

Geometric Ceremony Backdrops

Geometry isn’t new to the wedding decor world, but 2018 is going to see a lot of geometric ceremony backdrops in particular!
