Moody Moroccan Topanga Canyon Wedding at The 1909

If you think you’ve already seen the best of bohemian wedding decor, Angel and Brantly’s California wedding at The 1909 is going to blow your mind! Their Moroccan-inspired design included flowers galore, large macrame hangings, mini macrame plate decor created by Everyday Macrame, hand-painted tile name cards, antique lanterns, leather poufs, and just about every natural texture you could want for a cozy outdoor wedding. And that was just for their reception! Their ceremony backdrop, which featured a large mandala art piece created by The Creative Shift and pampas grass semicircle, was truly a sight to behold. As you can imagine, the wedding party style was also on point. Angel looked like a bohemian goddess in a cut-out lace Rue De Seine dress, messy braid, and Moroccan-inspired coin veil, and her girls brought vintage bohemia to life in emerald and rust-colored frocks from Free People and For Love and Lemons. Get ready to settle in with these photos captured by Sanford Creative for quite a while because, we guarantee, you’ll need to look twice to appreciate every dreamy detail.

The Wedding:

The 1909, Topanga Canyon, California

The most important part of planning our wedding was making sure that everyone had fun, including ourselves. We had really fun brick oven specialty pizzas made, a cute 1970’s photo booth bus, and a character artist to draw the guests’ photos. Everyone loved it! We wanted to make sure the environment felt magical. Between the white drapery, majestic tall trees, and twinkling lights, I was sold!

When I asked my girls to be part of my wedding, I had an intimate Moroccan-style girls night in my backyard where we sat on the floor with a table decorated in lanterns and rattan fans under some twinkle lights. At that moment, I knew that was the style I wanted to go with.

We wanted our ceremony to really stand out. We wanted a backdrop that hadn’t been done before in a wedding ceremony. I always loved the U-shape pampas surrounding us on the floor, which had been done before and decided to spruce it up and add a mandala backdrop to the mix.

“Give me all the pretty lace details!” Literally, that was in my head while on a mission looking for a dress and the Rue De Seine Avril gown was perfect! It was a dream! To add a Moroccan touch, I added the most beautiful coin veil. I also paired my white heels with Forever Soles jeweled anklet chains. For my hair, I was totally sold on a messy styled braid and it was styled with some amaranthus tucked in.

Advice from the bride: Flowers make all the difference! More flowers and less everything else is what I think really makes your day beautiful. Find a good florist to help make your vision come to life.

The most memorable part of the day was my 8-year-old son’s speech, which totally caught us off guard. He just casually got up picked up the mic and started speaking in front of 130 people. We were shocked! Not to mention the speech was a hit! He had everyone in tears, laughing and toasting everyone. We will never forget that perfect moment!
