A Guide to Wedding Guest Attire for Men For Every Season

May 24, 2024 | justine

Keep reading for our break down wedding guest attire for men for all occassions. Image by Me & Georgia

Attending a wedding is always an exciting affair, but figuring out what to wear can sometimes be a bit tricky, especially when considering the season and the dress code. Whether it’s a formal black-tie event or a laid-back beach celebration, it’s essential to dress appropriately to honor the couple’s special day. That’s why we’re breaking down the different wedding guest attire for men that’s tailored to each season and occasion.

Wedding Guest Attire for Men

Understanding what to wear to a wedding starts with the invitation. Consider the time and venue—morning or afternoon events tend to be less formal, while evening affairs or upscale venues call for more elegant attire. If the invitation has a dress code, like black tie or casual, it tells you what’s expected. Black tie means a tuxedo, while casual means you can dress more relaxed.

Black Tie

For black-tie weddings, think elegant and sophisticated. Opt for a classic black tuxedo paired with a crisp white dress shirt and a black bow tie. Complete the look with polished black shoes and maybe even a sleek pocket square for an extra touch of style.

Semi-formal Wedding or Cocktail

If the wedding calls for semi-formal attire or a cocktail-style event, you can still look sharp without wearing a full-on black tie. A tailored suit in a darker shade, like navy or charcoal, paired with a dress shirt and a tie, is a great choice. Consider adding a vest or a stylish patterned tie to add some personality to your outfit.

Casual Wedding Guest Attire for Men

For more casual weddings, you have more flexibility to dress comfortably while still looking put together. A smart option would be dress pants paired with a button-down or polo shirt. You can even opt for a blazer or a sports coat for refinement.

Beach Wedding

Beach weddings are all about embracing a relaxed vibe while still looking polished. Lightweight fabrics like linen or cotton are your best friends here. Think breathable shirts paired with chinos. Loafers or boat shoes are ideal for sandy shores and don’t forget a pair of stylish sunglasses to shield your eyes from the sun.

Spring Wedding Guest Attire for Men

Spring weddings call for outfits that reflect the season’s vibrant energy. Pastel colors and lightweight fabrics are perfect for this time of year. Consider wearing a light-colored suit or mixing and matching separates like a blazer with dress pants. Floral or paisley ties can add a playful touch to your ensemble.

Summer Wedding

Summer weddings can be hot, so it’s essential to dress for comfort while still looking dapper. Opt for breathable fabrics like linen to keep cool in the heat. Light-colored suits paired with a linen shirt can help you stay stylish and comfortable throughout the festivities.

Fall Wedding Guest Attire for Men

It’s time to embrace richer tones and heavier fabrics as the weather cools. Earthy hues like burgundy, olive, or mustard are perfect for fall weddings. A wool suit or a tweed blazer paired with dress pants will keep you warm while still looking fashionable. Don’t forget to layer up with a stylish scarf or a knit tie for extra warmth.

Winter Wedding

Winter weddings call for cozy yet stylish attire. Opt for darker colors like navy, charcoal, or black to suit the season. A wool suit or a velvet blazer paired with a cashmere sweater will keep you warm without sacrificing style. Finish your look with a classic wool overcoat and leather gloves to stay toasty during outdoor ceremonies.

No matter the season or dress code, dressing as a wedding guest is about striking the right balance between style and appropriateness. By following these simple guidelines tailored to each season and occasion, you’ll be sure to look your best while celebrating the happy couple’s special day.

Bridesmaid Trends We’ve Got Our Eyes On This Year

November 19, 2023 | kailey

Image by Lilly Red. See more of this real wedding here.

Couples are continuing to ditch tradition, going all in on details that’ll make their wedding a one-of-a-kind affair. This is the case for decor, venues, and even bridesmaid fashion—nothing’s off the table! So, if you’re including a bridal party in your wedding, nailing the bridesmaid outfits is key. Luckily, we’ve got the inside scoop on all the 2024 bridesmaid trends guaranteed to make a statement.

From mismatched dresses to bold jewelry choices, bridesmaids this year will be turning heads like never before. Keep scrolling for all the 2024 bridesmaid trends we’ve got our eyes on this year.

Six Bridesmaid Trends That Will Rule 2024

Here are the top bridesmaid trends we look forward to seeing for the rest of the year.

1. Mismatched Bridesmaid Dresses

Just like decor, wedding day attire is a great way to add personality to your big day. That’s why we’re waving goodbye to one-size-fits-all bridesmaid dresses. Instead of having everyone in your wedding party rock the same outfit, play around with different textures, colors, and even lengths. We’ve seen this trend gain popularity over the years, and 2024 will be no exception.

Plus, by sticking with the mismatched bridesmaid dress look, you can incorporate your crew into the wedding planning process. It makes them feel important and limits your stress.

2. Return of Black Bridesmaid Dresses

Bold color palettes were the main event in 2023. And while many couples will still want to infuse their day with color, that won’t be the case for everyone. There will be many couples opting for a neutral color palette. But instead of seeing neutrals like tan or champagne, we’re going to see more black dresses.

This year’s wedding parties are going to be packed with carefree confidence and daring curiosity. Bring on the monochromatic bridesmaid dresses, jumpsuits, and pantsuits!

3. Patterned Bridesmaid Dresses

Weddings this year are all about celebrating uniqueness. We’ll see many couples trading traditional wedding elements for out-of-the-box details that’ll make their wedding truly one of a kind. Printed bridesmaid dresses will be one of those unique additions.

This bridesmaid trend is going to be extremely popular this spring and summer. Floral prints are idyllic for a romantic spring affair. You can also choose wild patterns like leopard for a more edgy vibe. The options are endless.

4. One-Shoulder Bridesmaid Dresses

One-shoulder bridesmaid dresses are a fun and fashionable trend for 2024. Not only are they stylish, but they also work wonders for all body types. They are flattering and supportive, making them a solid choice for wedding parties with various body types. It’s an elegant and inclusive style, plus the asymmetric nature of the dress adds a unique flare.

5. Bold Jewelry Choices

When you’re thinking about what to wear on your big day, it’s totally normal to obsess over the dress. But this year, jewelry choices will be just as important as the dress. Wedding parties will be leaning towards those bold statement earrings and necklaces to really complete their look. Especially if you’re going with neutral or all-black dresses, these jewels are going to be the cherry-on-top detail you need.

6. Jumpsuits and Pantsuits

It’s no surprise that jumpsuits have taken the wedding world by storm. They are proof that comfort and style can coexist. And with the anti-bride movement in full swing, jumpsuits and pantsuits are going to have their moment, yet again.

Now that you have an idea of the 2024 bridesmaid trends, it’s time to get shopping. Lucky for you, shopping for bridesmaid dresses has never been easier. Start with the best places to buy bridesmaid outfits online! Then, check “find bridesmaid dresses” off your to-do list from the comfort of your own home.

10 Things To Do Right After You Get Engaged

November 18, 2023 | riley

If you’re reading this it means that you’ve recently said “yes” to the person of your dreams. First things first–congratulations on getting engaged! While you may still be floating on cloud nine, we know that you’ve got work to do and we’re here to help make the most of your engagement. Below, you’ll find ten things to do right after saying “yes”—from spreading the news to finding your wedding vendors. Follow these ten steps, and you’ll be set up for wedding planning success.

10 Things to Do After You Get Engaged

1. Take The Time To Soak Up Being Engaged

Trust us, we know how tempting it may be to run right to social media after getting engaged. But before shouting it from the rooftops, take the time to soak it in, just the two of you. You’re going to want to remember this love-drunk high. Pop a bottle of champagne or enjoy a celebratory dinner and dessert–do whatever makes you happy and revel in your love.

2. Announce Your Engagement

Unless you’re planning on keeping your engagement under wraps for a while, call your family and friends to let them know about the exciting news! They’ll be so happy you took the time to let them know before updating your social media. It can be helpful to make a list of everyone who needs to know before the Internet does to avoid any hurt feelings. However, at the end of the day, it’s your engagement. Don’t stress out about who to/not to tell. It’s your news to share with whoever you want.

3. You’re Engaged, Now Plan An Engagement Party

After saying “Yes!” you’re probably ready to jump into planning your dream wedding. But first, celebrate being engaged. Think champagne, loved ones, and a whole lot of congratulations. That’s right– we’re talking about your engagement party. Being the first of many pre-wedding parties, it’s the perfect way to kick off your wedding planning season. Once you’ve got the deets for the party figured out, it’s time to start thinking about what you’re going to wear. Luckily, we’ve rounded up some gorgeous engagement party dresses that will help you feel like a soon-to-be newlywed.

4. Start Dreaming About Your Wedding

Before you start crossing things off of your wedding planning checklist, you’ve got some daydreaming to do. Maybe you’ve been planning your wedding your entire life, or maybe it has never crossed your mind. No matter which boat you are in, we recommend starting by creating a wedding mood board to help you nail down your style. You’ll get a better understanding of what color palettes you love, what floral arrangements pique your interest, what decor you lean toward, etc.

Don’t stress if you’re not sure what your wedding style should be. Hiring a great wedding planner can help you have the wedding of your dreams, even if you’re not sure what that looks like yet. These important questions to ask before you start wedding planning will be a big help too.

5. Set Your Wedding Budget

Setting a budget may not sound like a lot of fun, but it’s an important step to cross off your list early in the wedding planning process. We know how overwhelming it can feel. That’s why we’ve created a budget tool that will get your finances in order for your special day.

While working on your budget, remember that there are most likely going to be unexpected wedding expenses that might take you by surprise. Plan for them early, and you won’t have to worry about sacrificing your dream wedding reception or live music to make room in your budget for them.

Still unsure of how to tailor a budget that’s right for you? Check out our wedding budget guide for you and your partner. And if you’re curious about planning a destination wedding, here’s a budget breakdown of how much it costs to have a destination wedding.

6. Take Engagement Photos

Now that you’ve got those steps taken care of, it’s engagement photo time. Take your engagement photos as early as possible so you can include a photo or two on your save-the-date cards. Hiring a professional photographer will help capture this special chapter of your lives. It’s over before you know it, so trust us when we say you’re going to want to capture these memories.

Hate the idea of being in front of the camera? We get it. These tips for nailing your engagement photos will help you feel more comfortable and ready to strike a pose. Bonus: our first tip is to wear an outfit that makes you feel confident. We’ve got outfit ideas for every summer–spring, summer, fall, and winter.

7. Create A Guest List

After you set a wedding budget, it’s time to sit down and create your guest list. You will want this guest list prior to meeting with venues and caterers, as it will determine what you’ll be able to afford and what type of venue will work best for your guest count.

If, once you’ve created your initial guest list, you need to trim it down, we’ve got you covered. Check out our handy tips for trimming your guest list—and see what the benefits of hosting a smaller wedding are. No matter what, never feel guilty about your guest list. It’s your special day, and you want to surround yourself with the ones who matter most.

Once the list has been finalized, use our wedding guest list tool to keep track of everyone’s email address, home address, phone number, dietary restrictions, and more.

8. Choose A Venue And Set A Date

You know your guest count and budget, now it’s time to start the venue search. Start by considering questions like whether or not you want a local or destination wedding. Do you want to be indoors or outdoors? Are you going to host your ceremony and reception in the same space? These are things you’ll need to consider yourselves before you begin searching.

Once you start touring venues, it’s very important that you ask the venues questions to ensure that you know what to expect at your wedding. A few questions that we think you can’t forget are:

  • Is the date of choice available? If not, are there surrounding dates available?
  • What’s the cancellation fee?
  • How many weddings do they host in a day?
  • What are the rates for different days of the week? (ex. Thursday vs. Friday)
  • What is the deposit? What’s the structure for the payment schedule?
  • Do they require the use of their approved list of vendors? If not, are there limitations on the vendors you’ll bring in?
  • Are there noise restrictions?
  • Are there decor restrictions?
  • How many restrooms are there for the guests?
  • Is there a food and beverage minimum? What are the consequences if it’s not met?
  • Can you source beer, wine, and liquor elsewhere?

Want to see wedding venues in your area? We’ve got a list of wedding venues around the world. We also have a list of gorgeous Airbnb wedding venues that are perfect for micro weddings and elopements! Lastly, don’t forget to take photos while you’re on venue tours to help you recall what you saw later on and see how it looks in photos.

9. Build Your Vendor Team After Getting Engaged

It’s important to select a dream team of wedding vendors as early as possible since many of the best professionals are booked out a year or two in advance. If you’re considering using a wedding planner, ask them for their vendor recommendations. Wedding planners work with other vendors all over and know which vendors will line up with your vision.

That being said, keep an eye out for any red flags that might come up while searching for or interviewing vendors. These range from poor communication, no reviews, and—of course—your gut instinct. The last thing you want is to get burned by a poor experience because you booked someone that was cheap.

10. Say Yes To The Dress

Even though you just got engaged, finding your dream dress early is a must. It can take anywhere from six to nine months to get your wedding dress–and that doesn’t include the time it took to find the dress or alterations. We know, we were shocked when we first learned too.

It’s best to get this step out of the way as soon as possible just in case there are any last-minute hiccups. Before making your way to a boutique, check out these things to do before your first bridal appointment to help you feel your best when you zip into the gowns. The most important thing to remember is that bridal appointments are meant to be fun, and your dream dress should make you feel like a thousand bucks.

If you’d rather skip the bridal boutiques and try on gowns in the comfort of your home, you’re in luck. These ready-to-ship wedding dresses are available now and they’re also drop-dead gorgeous. Don’t want to wear a dress at all? You’ll love one of these bridal jumpsuits and pantsuits, too.

Wedding Gown Trends for 2024

November 12, 2023 | riley

Image by Jamie Y Photography. Keep scrolling for the wedding gown trends for 2024

And just like that, we’re only a couple of months away from welcoming 2024. There’s something exciting about the new year–especially if you were recently engaged or you’re tying the knot this year! With the new year comes new wedding trends. From color palettes to decorations to bridesmaid’s dresses to wedding gowns, it’s time to start planning what is going to be big this year! With puffy sleeves, shorter hemlines, and sequins making their way into the wedding industry, we’ve rounded up the styles that are going to be a hit in 2024. So what’re you waiting for? It’s time to get wedding dress shopping!

Wedding Gown Trends For 2024

Bows

As more brides are opting for sleeker gowns, they’re still choosing to make a statement with oversized bows. You’ll see them on the back of the dresses. However, we also sense that we’ll see them act as smaller details on necklines and bodices.

Slip Dresses

Speaking of simple, one of the biggest silhouettes that we saw at 2023 Bridal Fashion Week was slip dresses. These effortlessly chic dresses are the perfect choice for the laidback bride who doesn’t want anything over the top for their big day. They make a subtle nod to the 1920s, and they’re extremely easy to dress up with accessories.

Short Hemlines

The past few years have been the years of elopements and courthouse “I do’s,” which call for shorter hemlines. They’re casual, romantic, and not to mention more comfortable than traditional gowns. If you’re opting for a shorter dress but still want to stand out on your special day, consider pairing the dress with bolder accessories like an embroidered veil or statement earrings.

Printed Dresses

If you want to express your colorful personality, opt for a non-white dress that is as bright as you are. Whether it’s a subtle swap like champagne or blush, or you want to go bold with black or red, there are so many possibilities out there.

Floral Appliques

Much like floral wedding dresses, floral appliques are going to be another big trend in 2024. Think white gowns with colorful florals embroidered on the dress. However, if you’d rather stick to an all-white dress, fret not. There are plenty of options with bold embroidery.

Mesh

We’ve seen a lot of mesh in the fashion industry as a whole, so it’s no surprise that it’s making its way to the wedding world. Unlike illusion fabric that is meant to blend in with your skin, this mesh is typically white/ivory to match the dress. This gives it a very modern look that can be great for keeping you warm.

Two Pieces

Separates are by far the most versatile, playful look out there thanks to their ability to be mixed and matched. Whether you’re mixing a bustier top with a full tulle skirt or a crop top with a fitted, figure-hugging skirt, the options are endless. Not to mention the killer pantsuit options.

Over the Top Reception Outfit Changes

Wedding attire is all about being the star of the show these days, and what better way to do so than with an over-the-top reception outfit? Whether you opt for a dress decked out in sparkles to a sexy jumpsuit that lets you dance, no matter which one you choose, you’ll feel completely and utterly glamorous on your wedding day. Not to mention ready to party.

Expectations vs. Reality: Wedding Costs

November 1, 2023 | kailey

At the beginning of your wedding planning journey, your first step will be to talk money. You’ll create a budget that’s comfortable for both you and your significant other. This magic number will play an important role in hiring vendors, finding your dream venue, and so much more. But let’s be real. Sometimes you set a budget, and before you know it, you go over it. We’ve seen this happen many times, and it can be frustrating for those looking to keep a close eye on their spending.

Underestimating your wedding expenses can really cost you in the end. Either you’ll have to cough up more money, or you’ll have to rearrange funds to make up for the costs. Both sound incredibly stressful. That’s why we want to make sure you have realistic budget expectations from the start.

We’ve polled our Instagram audience to see what they expect to spend in each wedding category, and we’re comparing these numbers to the averages to see if there’s a gap between what people expect to pay and what they ultimately dish out.

Wedding Invitations

Wedding invitations give your guests a sneak peek into your wedding. So, of course, you want them to be stunning and match your theme. But they also need to have all the important wedding details as well. That can get expensive quickly. When we polled our audience on Instagram, the majority said they expect to pay between $100-$300 total for their wedding invitations.

The price of invitations will vary based on your design, printing style, paper quantity, and quantity. But the average cost typically ranges between $300 and $700 for both invitations and envelopes. While close to the average, Instagram underestimates the cost of wedding invitations slightly.

Of course, you could always opt for electronic invites or just create a wedding website with all the must-know information. This will undoubtedly save you money. But, if there’s room in your budget, try and stick with paper invites. They’re extra special to receive in the mail, they’ll make for a nice keepsake, and your photographer will appreciate this when it comes to capturing your flatlay.

Expected costs: $100-$300
Average costs: $300 and $700

Wedding Costs: Venue

Venue costs vary substantially. We’re taking into consideration lowkey backyard spaces, lavish banquet halls, and everything in between. With the different venue locations, sizes, and guest capacities, our average venue costs will vary quite a bit. And our Instagram poll is proof.

The final votes from our Instagram poll were scattered. Yet, the slightest majority leaned toward the $8,000+ range. And they’ve got it right. The average wedding venue typically hovers around $10,000. But when it comes to searching for your dream venue, to get the most accurate pricing estimate, do a little research on the average costs of spaces in your local area that’ll fit your number of guests.

Expected costs: $8,000+
Average costs: $10,000

Realistic Breakdown of Fashion Costs

When thinking about fashion, we’re not just referencing your wedding day outfit. While your wedding dress, jumpsuit, or tux will inevitably take up the majority of your fashion budget, there’s so much more involved. You also have to consider your accessories like jewelry, ties, shoes, veils, shapewear, etc. While these all may seem like small, insignificant details, they can add up quickly.

Wedding dresses generally fall between $1,500 to $2,500. Purchasing a suit averages between $300 and $500. If you want to wear a veil, you can expect to pay around $250. Those all together will leave your budget around $3000, but that doesn’t include shoes, ties, jewelry, headbands, etc.

When we polled Instagram, our audience said they were expecting to pay between $1,000 and $3,000 for their fashion. While that is doable, these numbers fall much lower than the average. It’s estimated most couples will spend between $3,000 and $5,000 to complete both wedding ensembles. When calculating your budget, make sure you take into account all the nitty-gritty fashion details beyond just your dress or suit. This will help prevent any surprises down the line.

Expected costs: $1,000 and $3,000
Average costs: $3,000 and $5,000

Photographer and Videographer Costs

Your wedding day will go by in a blink of an eye. That’s where your photographer and videographer become important. Their goal is to capture your special day so you can relive your cherished moments for years to come. Unsurprisingly, when we polled our Instagram followers, they estimated to spend $3,000+ on their photographer and videographer

On average, most couples spend between $1,500 and $2,500 on their wedding videographer and between $3,00 and $4,000 for their photographer. This is, of course, dependent on location, add-ons, and hours of coverage.

Expected costs: $3,000+
Average costs: $3,000 to $4,000

Wedding Costs for Flowers

With wedding flowers typically being one of the most important wedding decor details, it’s crucial that you don’t underestimate your floral budget. You want to ensure an accurate price estimation before meeting with potential florists. It’s important to note that the price of your flowers depends on the style of flowers you choose, the seasonality of your flowers, the amount of arrangements you need, the size of your arrangements, delivery costs, etc.

With all those details in mind, our Instagram audience estimated wedding flower costs in 2023 to be between $500 and $2,000. This would be the case for those planning a small, intimate wedding. But couples wanting a large, floral-filled wedding can expect to pay, on average, around $3,000 minimum.

This number might have you considering a DIY project, but keep in mind that hiring an experienced florist can actually save you money. That’s right! They can make suggestions on ways to bring your vision to life within your wedding budget. As long as you come to your initial consultation with an open mind, you can create some floral magic regardless of your budget.

Expected costs: $500-$2000
Average costs: $3,000

Wedding Cake Costs

Wedding cakes come in many shapes and sizes, and their costs are closely tied to those factors, including the cake’s design and level of intricacy. As our Instagram audience correctly guessed, the average cake price for 2023 typically falls between $350 and $500.

If you’re aiming for a small and simple cake, you’ll find yourself on the lower end. However, for those with more elaborate visions, be prepared for your cake to be on the higher end. Sharing an inspirational image with a prospective bakery can help you get a more accurate quote based on your specific design.

Expected costs: Less than $500
Average costs: $350-$500

Wedding DJ and Live Music

Music sets the scene for essential moments, such as the walk down the aisle, the reception entrance, and even your first dance. It’s also the secret to getting your guests moving and grooving on the dance floor. If you’re looking for a fun night of dancing, skipping on the music is simply not an option for your big day. And if you agree, set aside an average of $1,000 to $2,000 for a wedding DJ or live band.

Expected costs: $1,000 to $2,000
Average costs: $1,000 to $2,000

Average Wedding Catering Costs

Before estimating your overall wedding budget, we want to give you a little food for thought—pun intended. To get a truly accurate price, you need to know two things: the style of catering you want and your guest count

Catering costs are often calculated per person, averaging around $75 per plate. So, if your guest list falls within the 50-100 range, you can anticipate a catering bill ranging from $3,500 to $7,500. It’s important to remember that this number typically doesn’t include expenses related to the bar, alcohol, or dessert.

Expected costs: $2,000+
Average costs: $3,500 and $7,500

Creating a wedding budget is overwhelming. First, you have to decide on the overall number you’re willing to spend on your big day. Then, you have to make decisions about where to put your money. These average estimations should help get you on the right track. But, before you actually meet with potential vendors, use our budget tool to get organized.

With a stunning venue, beautiful florals, a classic color palette, and chic attire, their Villa La Joya wedding had all the ingredients of a timeless celebration.

The team of talented vendors turned the villa’s lawn by the water into a gorgeous spot for the ceremony. To make it even more special, they lined the walkway with lush white blooms and built a one-of-a-kind arch to frame the beautiful views. With the backdrop of the ocean and lush tropical scenery, it was the perfect romantic setting for saying “I do.” At the reception, guests were treated to stylish lounges and an all-white tablescape with gold accents. To cap off the night, the couple danced to the magical display of firework fountains, ending the celebration with a bang!

If your wedding vibe is timeless meets modern romance, then this is the perfect inspiration for you. Luckily, this stunning day was beautifully captured by Diptych Studio. So, keep scrolling for ideas that will always be in vogue and never go out of style.

Supporting Local Creatives Through the Bridal Fashion

As a fashion stylist, my wedding outfits were essential to me. I come from Nashville and wanted to collaborate with local black creatives for my wedding looks. I aimed for a timeless style with lace and pearls for the ceremony, choosing soft pink and nude makeup to match the outdoor setting. My hair was elegantly done in finger waves with pearl touches, and my dress and shoes featured lace and pearl details. I carried a bouquet of white roses down the aisle. My getting-ready robe had dramatic bell sleeves with floral and feather decorations, and I added a satin corset for a 60’s pinup look. For the reception, I went for a more modern vibe with a mesh jumpsuit adorned with intricate floral and pearl details, plus a detachable tulle skirt for a romantic touch. Each element reflected my mix of classic and contemporary styles.

A Modern and Timeless Vision Brought to Life at Their Villa La Joya Wedding

We wanted a mixture of modern meets timeless aesthetic. I was definitely a Pinterest bride and wanted white and greenery with hints of gold for a timeless look, but we included acrylic elements to give it a more modern feel. My dream wedding has always been to have a “backyard wedding,” and our wedding venue gave us that and more. Villa La Joya offered us a way to have a private ceremony and reception without the onlookers of a resort-style wedding. Our wedding planner got us into contact with all of the vendors in Mexico, and everything exceeded our expectations.

Honoring Their Loved Ones Was a Priority on Their Special Day

The most important thing to us was ensuring that we included our family in moments that could have been just about us but made it much sweeter. My late grandmothers were on my bouquet as I walked down the aisle. My husband included his brothers in his mother/son dance. And I honored my late older sister by dedicating my father/daughter dance to her. Our wedding day is 100% our day, but we felt like we were celebrating them as well.

A Memorable Walk Down the Aisle and Heartfelt Vows

The most memorable part of the wedding was walking down the aisle to see my husband for the first time. It was truly an indescribable feeling, but in that moment, everything came together. Our ceremony was breathtakingly beautiful, and seeing our family and friends there made the moment that much sweeter. My husband’s wedding vows made everyone cry, and it is a moment I will never forget.

Advice From the Newlyweds: Embrace the Unpredictable Wedding Journey

It might sound like a cliché, but in the end, everything falls into place. Our engagement was longer due to the pandemic, and we were set on a destination wedding. I found myself stressing and losing confidence in my choices along the way. Trust yourself, and don’t worry too much about the little things. Most people won’t notice if something doesn’t go as planned. Just enjoy the journey!

Elevating the Wedding Experience Through Small Personalized Details

I am most proud of the details of my wedding. I tried to think about every detail possible throughout the wedding day. We stayed in Cancun, about 20 minutes away from the venue. We made sure that we had a designated playlist for the shuttles to play during the ride, gospel music upon our guests’ arrival because we got married on a Sunday, a muted color palette for the guests to wear, a custom bar cart, DJ booth, dance floor, drink stirrers, place cards, and an audio guestbook to name a few. The details are what I feel our guests appreciated the most.

This Romantic Big Sur Elopement Paid Homage to The Couple’s Love For The Redwoods

September 30, 2023 | justine

Wendy and Deepti first connected during a visit to a lush redwood forest. This kickstarted their love for each other and the Bay Area with its captivating blend of coastline and forest. In a heartfelt tribute to their beginnings, they selected the majestic redwoods as their witnesses for a romantic Big Sur elopement. It was a dreamy celebration that beautifully embodied their love for nature and each other.

In a secluded spot beneath towering trees, they exchanged heartfelt vows and tears—have your tissues handy. Their love for the ocean and the forest was evident as they celebrated their commitment with beautiful photos all around the area, capturing the seaside cliffs, blooming flower fields, and the beach. They picked the perfect ‘I do’ location, having the best of everything all in one place.

The all-female vendor team added a wonderful touch of empowerment to their special day, leaving them with cherished memories of their beautiful love story. Wendy and Deepti demonstrated that your day is just that, yours. It should revolve around you and your new spouse, and these breathtaking photos, beautifully captured by photographer Heather Purdy, are your proof.

The Couple:

Wendy and Deepti

The Wedding:

Big Sur, California, United States

Why A Romantic Big Sur Elopement

Early in our relationship, we went to an incredibly beautiful redwood forest. We felt like we were in the audience for a stunning nature show. So, we thought, who better than the redwoods to be there on our big day? Then, a couple of years ago, we moved to the Bay Area and instantly fell in love with the California coastline. Big Sur allowed us both to remember where we started and embrace where we are now. On that day, we felt so many emotions, but almost everything felt perfect. The scenery was breathtaking, and our vendors were powerful women. Someone very special to both of us was there to celebrate with us. Our outfits were exactly what we wanted. Everything felt easy, just like our relationship with each other.

Choosing Wedding Attire That Blended Two Cultures

Wendy, who is Asian-American, wanted to find a dress that would reflect both her cultural backgrounds. That’s when she discovered East Meets Dress, a company that offers qipaos (cheongsams) blending Eastern and Western designs. While traditional qipaos are usually red, Wendy followed the American custom of getting married in a white dress. As for her choice of shoes, Wendy went with red Vans. These shoes paid homage to the traditional red color in her mother’s culture, but they also allowed her to celebrate her personal style by choosing her favorite brand, which she had been wearing since her teenage years.

Celebrating Fluid Gender Expression Through Wedding Fashion

Deepti’s choice of wedding attire was a unique and meaningful journey. Traditionally, Indian women wear red lehengas, which are long, ornate skirts paired with blouses. While Deepti occasionally dressed in lehengas for special occasions, she equally felt at home in pantsuits. For her wedding outfit, Deepti wanted to honor her fluid gender expression. She started by rummaging through her closet, mixing and matching various tops and bottoms until she found the right combination. Then, she ventured online, searching for Indian fashion designers who catered to the queer community. During this search, Deepti discovered B Anu Designs, who had previously designed attire for a queer women’s wedding. Collaborating with Anu, Deepti created a completely bespoke red ensemble featuring ornate pants, a blouse, shoulder capes, and a headdress. The outfit perfectly blended elements of Deepti’s culture and her queer identity, making it truly special for our wedding day.

Symbolic Illustrations in Their Handmade Vow Books

Our vow books were handmade. Many vow books for purchase seemed impersonal and often came in packs of “his” and “hers.” The vow books were made with blush pink cotton paper and hand-bound with twine. Deepti drew mountains on her vow book to commemorate her favorite natural wonder and a redwood tree on Wendy’s vow book, as she favors forests.

Taking Pride in Celebrating Their Big Day Their Way

We are most proud of how we got there. While we are blessed to have many supportive people close to us, there have been times when we weren’t feeling the love and support from some family members. We have carried on loving each other anyway. We have overcome a lot together and have learned to forge our own path. We are unapologetically queer, multicultural, and madly in love. In the end, we did everything our way.

Wedding Planning Advice: Choose the Right Vendors for Your Elopement

If you’re planning to elope, it’s a good idea to look for vendors who are not only skilled at their work but also great people to be around. Elopements are intimate celebrations, so it’s important to feel comfortable with your team. During our planning, we made it a priority to collaborate with vendors who openly supported queer love on their social media. We wanted our special day to be a proud moment for everyone involved, and I believe we succeeded in achieving that goal.

September 24, 2023 | justine

Taking inspiration from the stunning stained glass windows, classic brownstone steps, and the fab art deco feel of Atrium82, the creative minds at Poppy + Lyn orchestrated a captivating wedding vision. They brought to life a celebration that blends the irresistible charm of Brooklyn with a playful touch of whimsy. Using a soft pastel color palette, ethereal flowers, and exquisite bridal fashion, every aspect of this romantic Atrium 82 wedding inspiration is destined to make hearts skip a beat.

The large windows in the venue were adorned with delicate floral arrangements, creating a stunning setting for exchanging heartfelt vows. To set the stage for an intimate reception for two, a beautiful tablescape with lacey linens, vintage accents, and soft blooms was added. While the decor certainly played a significant part in bringing this elopement to life, fashion also took center stage. The brides were impeccably styled, one in a tiered dress and the other in a chic retro-glam pantsuit.

If you and your partner are in need of that extra nudge to think outside the box for your wedding, this is it. These photos are just the spark you need to ignite your imagination and explore unique wedding ideas. Ready for more? Take a scroll through these stunning images skillfully captured by Loreto Caceres and soak in every detail.

The Inspiration Behind This Atrium82 Wedding Inspiration

Intimate elopement meets Brooklyn Charm. For this styled shoot, we wanted to highlight a local wedding space in Brooklyn, Atrium 82. It has all the makings of a gorgeous and charming event venue—stained glass, tons of natural light, those classic Brownstone steps, and just the right amount of space to soak in wedded bliss. The main inspiration came from the venue itself and those perfect stained glass windows.

Adding a Fresh Twist to Modernize the Art Nouveau Vibe

Art nouveau is such a gorgeous genre. And we wanted to show how you could modernize it to feel fresh and timeless but still playful. We started with the color palette—a warm, inviting, neutral scheme with little pops of whimsy. This bled into the flowers, which the incredible Miriam Bloom Designs created. We opted for an asymmetrical installation for the ceremony that enhanced the windows but didn’t take away from the view of the city streets.

Finding The Perfect Attire for This Atrium82 Wedding Shoot That Truly Reflected Their Style

Our brides are a real couple getting married next fall in Brooklyn, and we worked with them to find outfits that they felt were their most beautiful selves. Carol Hannah had the most stunning wedding dress for us to use, which complimented the art nouveau suit we found for Katlyn on ASOS

Celebrating Diversity and Unity Through Collaboration

Several of our team members proudly identify as LGBTQ+, with outstanding contributions from vendors like Miriam Bloom, Firework Photo Booth, and Janesse Russel, who crafted beautiful veils for our brides. The creative genius of Rachel Zuch extended to our paper goods, adding a stunning touch that set the perfect tone for the day. We believe that Junebug readers will embrace the sight of a diverse vendor team and models coming together for a joyful and elegant elopement right in the heart of Brooklyn. Behind the lens, Loreto and Jose were the dream team, capturing every moment flawlessly, and the result was pure perfection.

Two Travel Influencers Tie The Knot In An Unconventional Bondi Beach Elopement

September 21, 2023 | justine

Gabi and Shanna chose an unconventional way to tie the knot. They picked a beach in Sydney they had never been to before, convinced that any beach would be perfect for their special day. And their intuition proved to be right. Their Bondi Beach elopement was filled with fun, personality, and boho charm that truly captured their love for adventure.

They knew a traditional ceremony was never for them, and their elopement was precisely what they had always dreamt of. It was just the two of them on the beach, with their best friend officiating, creating an incredibly intimate and special atmosphere. They chose attire that reflected their personalities to make it even more unique. Shanna wore a stunning gold and cream jumpsuit with stars, while Gabi chose a short, white sequin dress. Their inspiration? A beach disco party, and it couldn’t have been more perfect.

As if it couldn’t get any better, serendipitously, their elopement coincided with World Pride, filling the sky with rainbows and Pride flags. It felt like fate. Their special day was all about them and their adventurous spirit. See the love from every angle through these stunning photos captured by Martine Payne.

The Couple:

Gabi and Shanna

The Wedding:

Bondi Beach, Australia

Why They Chose to Have a Bondi Beach Elopement

We knew we wanted to elope while traveling because travel has always been a huge part of our relationship. We are both non-traditional people, so we wanted a non-traditional elopement. We didn’t wear the typical white dresses or have the usual ceremony. We wanted something fun, unique, and boho that felt exactly like us, and that’s what our elopement was. We are most proud of doing our wedding our way! It was exactly what we always dreamed of—just the two of us on the beach. And it felt so intimate and special.

Making Their Love Story More Personal By Having Their Best Friend Officiate

The most memorable part of the day was the speech of our officiant. Our best friend, Ravi, talked about our relationship and what it meant to have a happy and loving same-sex couple in his life. He put so much thought and creativity into the ceremony and even changed the lyrics to “Love Story” by Taylor Swift to be about our relationship. We always knew we wanted him to marry us, and when we realized we would all be in Australia at the same time, we knew it would be the perfect place to elope.

Destination Elopement Tip: Work with Local Experts

We planned our whole elopement only one month before it happened. But our best advice would be if you are looking to elope, try and find an elopement company in the destination you’re elopement is happening in. We researched many different elopement companies in Sydney, and we’re so happy we ended up with Weekday Wedded Bliss. They made sure our day ran smoothly and were great at recommending local a photographer, videographer, florist, and other vendors for our special day.

Ditching Tradition with Unconventional Wedding Attire

We knew we didn’t want to wear the traditional white dresses, so we went with looks that were way more us. Shanna rocked a gold and cream jumpsuit with stars all over it, and I wore a short, white sequin dress. Our inspiration was a disco party at the beach, and we definitely used Pinterest to gather some inspiration for our wedding day fashion.
