Whether flowers aren’t your vibe or you’re looking to decorate your wedding on a budget, floral alternatives are a creative way to style your day! Even if you’re a big fan of flowers, unfortunately, you may not be able to access them in 2020 and 2021 weddings. COVID-19 is impacting the wedding industry in a variety of ways, from weddings being postponed to small businesses hurting. One aspect you may not realize is being affected are flowers! Wedding florists, who have been hit some of the hardest by the pandemic, have not only lost business but are seeing a shortage in flowers as wholesale businesses were shuttered during quarantine. With fewer flowers available, we wanted to offer up some of our favorite alternatives to using flowers throughout your day.
Not convinced you can decorate without flowers? These floral alternatives will change your mind:
Dried flowers, pampas grass, and leaves
Linens
Neon signs
Candles and lanterns
Terrariums
Greenery
Read on for examples of these floral alternatives in use plus some of our favorite shops + products to use in your wedding.
DRIED FLOWERS, PAMPAS GRASS, & LEAVES
Okay, okay, we know this is supposed to be a floral alternatives roundup, but hear us out. While fresh florals might be hard to come by due to COVID, dried florals are a beautiful alternative that also happens to be trending this year! From fluffy pampas grass to dried palms to exquisite arrangements crafted from dried flowers, you don’t have to rely on fresh blooms when decorating your wedding. Dried botanicals can have a big impact on your wedding style, too, whether you’re going for an edgy moody vibe or romantic fairy tale look.

When designing your wedding, don’t forget to start with a strong foundation! Linens like patterned table runners or bold napkins in your wedding colors can be a great way to infuse your personal style into your decor. Plus, your table settings need napkins anyway, so why not make them a memorable part of your design!
Wedding decor doesn’t have to be so serious, so consider adding a playful element to your day with a neon sign! Lots of wedding rental companies have romantic neon signs you can use, but if you’re down for the investment we love the idea of getting a personalized neon sign you can display in your home after the wedding is through. Pro tip: neon signs make a great addition to your sweetheart table setup or as part of the display above your dessert table or reception bar.
Say yes to styling and ambiance with a collection of candles and lanterns around your wedding space! There’s nothing more romantic than dining by candlelight, so don’t be stingy. Candles can also be the answer to two big styling issues when decorating your wedding: contributing to your color palette and creating levels in your decor. Use candles in hues from your palette at varying heights to create visual interest throughout your design. Lanterns and other candle holders can also help you carry out your thematic vision, whether it’s rustic, Moroccan, modern, or bohemian.
Looking for a solution that’s chic and natural? Terrariums are the answer you’ve been looking for! Terrariums make great centerpieces or decor on your dessert or gift tables, plus they can serve double duty as favors for your guests at the end of the night. Keep them simple with a succulent or air plant in a diamond-shaped glass terrarium or make a major style statement with an assortment of plants inside of unique geometric shapes. Pro tip: consider hanging small terrariums from an arch or the ceiling to help fill your space.
No matter your venue, adding greenery to your decor creates a lush environment for tying the knot. From tropical fronds to fresh eucalyptus to putting your favorite houseplants on display, you not only incorporate natural elements but also carry out a theme by curating greenery to match your intended vibe. Use leaves sparingly and intentionally for a minimalist look or go big with full garlands on tables and arrangements hanging from the ceiling.

To celebrate the season, we’ve put together five stylish fall wedding color palettes that are sure to leave you swooning!
If you’re familiar with our 2019 wedding trends, then you already know rust is having a huge moment right now! Up until this year, we’ve seen a lot of weddings with rust accents, but couples are proving that rust is the perfect color to base an entire palette around — especially if you want to add a retro twist to your special day. It pairs perfectly with neutral tones or vibrant accents and somehow simultaneously feels modern and vintage. If you’re wondering how to incorporate this trending color into your wedding, these rust-colored wedding palettes are just the inspiration you need!
If you’re anything like the Junebug team, you’re obsessed with any and all things Enneagram! We’ve been dying to get in on the personality typing fun and realized the best way to dive in would be to help our soon-to-be engaged folks find out which engagement ring style is right for you based on your Enneagram type. Not sure which setting, stone, cut, or color is the best fit for your personality? We’re deep diving into the Enneagram for a little help to determine the exact ring to make YOUR heart sing!
Type One:
Bezel Engagement Ring
Also known as The Reformer, Type Ones may be busy making the world a better place, but not too busy to deserve a physical symbol of the love they’ve found. Choosing an engagement ring for a Type One should speak to their natural balance of being both exceptionally thoughtful and admirably pragmatic. We love how a bezel setting embodies these ideals: the stone is fully secured in the metal setting, keeping it safe and snug while showing off the beautiful intricacies of the diamond. Whether you choose a round, cushion, pear, or emerald-cut stone, the bezel setting is timeless and will transcend trend.
What else but a halo engagement ring could be fit for the angels of the Enneagram, also known as The Helper! We love the idea of recognizing a Type Two’s supportive nature with a halo setting, which is basically a hug of diamonds around a central stone. While the halo is representative of the support you show others, it can also symbolize the protection you receive in your relationship and serve as a reminder that you are loved regardless of the sacrifices you make in order to deeply nurture others.
While Type Threes, known as The Achievers, are often characterized as being image-conscious, we prefer to focus on your charm and adaptable energy when it comes to choosing an engagement ring. A pear-shaped ring brilliantly mirrors your two sides: a soft heart and a sharp wit. The asymmetry of the pear shape speaks to both your versatility as well as your affinity to be a cut above the rest. And, heck yeah, you’re going to get so many compliments on the stylish shape too, which we know you’ll appreciate!
Seeing as being distinctly different is what makes Type Fours distinctly different from every other type, a gemstone engagement ring is the natural answer for our most distinguishable type! A typical diamond was never on the table because there is nothing a Four loves more than being atypical. (Don’t @ us, Fours, you know it’s true!) A colored gemstone aligns with your bold and outspoken demeanor while diamond alternatives like moonstone, opal, and pearl offer a uniquely beautiful on a traditional engagement ring.
Solitude is a fundamental aspect of life for Type Fives, who deeply value independence and self-discovery. A solitaire engagement ring serves as a beautiful reminder of a Type Five’s autonomy within their relationship. Worry not, Fives, because a while a solitaire ring may be practical (much like you!), it definitely doesn’t have to be boring! You deserve a setting as dazzling and special as you are that equally complements your style and your straightforward attitude.
What better engagement ring for our dear Loyalist than a cluster setting! More than any other number, Type Six is dedicated to community and moves through the world with their people in mind, first and foremost. For a Six, the multiple stones on a cluster ring can be representative of your multiple deep relationships as well as the security you’ve found in your commitment to your person. Wearing your cluster engagement ring is a badge of trust, comfort, and bond to carry you through any self-doubt or uncertainty your future may hold.
Pinning down one engagement ring can be tough for a Type Seven, also known as The Enthusiast, whose FOMO keeps them up at night! To honor your itch to have a little bit of everything, say “yes” to a stacking engagement ring set. Your sights are ever changing and your stack can be too; choose a new stacking order or decide to rock a different number of rings based on your mood. Every day is a new adventure for you full of endless possibilities and your engagement ring set is just step one!
For the most commanding presence on the Enneagram, only one ring could do you justice: the emerald-cut. Type Eights, known as The Challenger, are characterized as confident, unyielding, which speaks as much to your qualities as a leader (hello, trendsetter!) as it does how fiercely you love. The rectangular Art Deco-inspired setting demonstrates how you live out loud, not to mention your larger-than-life heart. Unique, sophisticated, and dramatic, your emerald-cut engagement ring is a token of your assertive and passionate spirit.
Known as The Peacemaker, Type Nines are all about seeking balance. East-West engagement rings are the epitome of balanced scales by positioning the setting horizontally across the band. While avoiding conflict can be tough to achieve in life, your engagement ring can serve as a totem of your devotion to maintaining internal and external peace. Nines are also averse to anything overly showy or attention-grabby, but still want to celebrate their individuality, making the East-West setting ideal as a simple and elegant choice without being overdone.

When it comes to finding color palette inspiration, some of our favorite sources are the reception table decor couples use for their weddings! A tablescape is usually where all of the colors of the wedding come together into one beautiful design. From muted palettes of rose gold, blush, and tan to dramatic palettes of navy, silver and black, we’ve found reception table decor color palettes to inspire any vibe or style.
When you think of fall wedding colors, the first ones to come to mind are probably moody reds and rustic oranges. And, while we’ll never get tired of those color combinations, we’re so excited to see the unique and unexpected fall wedding color palettes Junebug couples have been using this year! Hot pinks, deep purples, and vibrant citrus-inspired colors have all made an appearance, and we must admit that we love them. These modern colors have totally reimagined the idea of fall wedding palettes.
HOT PINK, MAUVE, BALLET SLIPPER, CHARCOAL, GOLDENROD
Beth and Jake’s wedding at The Folmar, a charming southern estate tucked away on an East Texas back road, was inspired by the bucolic French countryside. Featuring an elegant and sophisticated color palette of slate, French blues, dove grey, and tons of neutrals and greenery and classically rustic details full of intention, like bread and wine, rosemary and lavender and natural plenty of elements such as exposed wood and linen. The bride wore a Rue De Seine wedding dress with panels of French lace and an open back with a simple chignon, a look that flowed beautifully with the European theme. Floral designer Primrose Path created an incredibly chic and refined composition that tied the stunning outdoor ceremony to the reception and created a cohesive theme, from the hanging white florals, to garlands of sage and accents of purple thistle. Leeann Funk Photography captured this couple enjoying their beautiful venue in fields of bright yellow flowers and in front of the statement-making blue French doors that set theme.
I wore a dress designed by the French brand Rue De Seine. There were panels of french lace sewn in with handmade silk, it was simple yet classic, and it flowed so beautifully. The dress paired well with the wedding vibes and venue. I wore my great grandmothers earrings for my sentimental accessory. The wedding party wore floor length dress from Show me Your Mumu in Silver Sage. The rest of the wedding party wore short navy dresses to compliment the wedding aesthetic. I think I had the most beautiful wedding party out there, such babes!
We chose elements that reflected our style – really natural, simple, but classic. We also love wine, so we tried to include a French Rustic element. Our hope was that our wedding facilitated community, so we tried to include ways for fellowship to flourish, like having a fire pit and family style meal for meaningful conversations. Also, lots of dancing.
For us, walking down the aisle was so memorable. We didn’t do a first look, which made this moment so intense, but so sweet, everything was so dreamy and perfect in that moment, we couldn’t stop smiling. Jake had some tears… but if you ask him, he says “it was allergies.” The weather that day turned out to be absolutely perfect, the music, the officiant’s message, and our friends praying over us…we felt so loved by every detail in our ceremony.
Jakeand I went to grad school together, and our beloved professor, Dr. Jones, officiated the ceremony. This was one of our favorite elements of the entire wedding. Dr. Jones has taught us so many valuable truths, so to have him officiate the wedding and speak about a covenantal love over us and for our guests was so very meaningful.
Think bread, wine, rosemary, lavender, lots of natural elements like wood, linen whites, laid back, European, rustic, French countryside for our wedding inspiration. We had slate colors, French blues, dove grey, lots of neutrals, and lots of greenery. It was so important to us that the wedding was natural, simple and reflective of our interests.
We collected and stained all the wine crates that our wedding wine came in, we filled them with vines from our neighbors garden, and this DIY served as our table centerpieces. It was so simple, but made the tables look so elegant. We also had the entire head table lined with almost 100 vintage brass candlesticks that we thrifted. It was so dreamy.
