Utterly Romantic Pastel Western Cape Wedding at Montpellier de Tulbagh

December 3, 2018 | juliette

Carmen and Paul’s South African wedding at Montpellier de Tulbagh was an unforgettable celebration of love, family, community, and the start of a life-long journey! The couple wanted their wedding to feel like a bohemian-inspired al fresco affair, which they accomplished with the help of their planner at I Do Box. Using a palette of pastels, the prettiest seasonal florals designed by Anli Wahl, and twinkle lights galore, they mixed laid-back, boho vibes with upscale, elegant details that looked straight out of a garden party. We can’t get enough of how special Carmen and Paul made this day for themselves and for their son, and how each photo captured by Dearheart Photos includes not only gorgeous wedding details but the sweet, candid emotions of the hope and joy they share as a family.

The Couple:

Carmen and Paul

The Wedding:

Montpellier de Tulbagh, Cape Town, South Africa

I think the most important thing to us about planning our day was making sure that it included our 4-year-old son, Cruz, and that, as much as it was about us, we wanted it to be just as memorable and special for him. We wanted to ensure that the day was centered around family and friends and true to us and our unique love story.

We visited the venue in 2012, while we were staying in a small town in Tulbagh, in the Western Cape (approximately an hour outside of Cape Town) for a friend’s wedding. Our son (18 months at the time) fell in love with the big Chevy truck they had on the farm. So, when we were planning our own wedding, we wanted a venue that helped complete our story. We remembered this old farm with beautiful lawns, a beautiful old chapel on a hill, and the big Chevy truck our son adored and felt that this would be the perfect venue for us to celebrate with friends and family. Plus it was in Cape Town, which is where we met, had our son, and found recovery. So in a way, it completed our love story.
