Warm and Picturesque Costa Rica Wedding

May 7, 2022 | riley

Imagine saying “I do” with sparkling coastlines, powdery sand, and breathtaking sunsets as a backdrop, followed by dancing with the love of your life under starlit skies and the soft sound of waves in the background. Talk about absolutely dreamy. A romantic beach wedding is truly a magical experience. With One Heart Planning and their amazing vendor team at the helm, Andy and Catalina’s Costa Rica wedding was a dream come true.

El Mangroove’s stunning beachfront was the perfect setting for a picturesque ceremony. Asymmetrical arrangements of lush tropical foliage and white orchids by Romero framed the couple as they exchanged emotional vows. The couple and their guests were transported to a tropical paradise in the reception that followed. The theme continued with gorgeous tablescapes of greenery and orchids, coconut candles, woven chargers, and a bamboo teepee cake display. To top it all off, a canopy of string lights and floating palm leaves added just the right touch of whimsy.

And if the decor wasn’t enough to have you dreaming of a tropical destination wedding, then the wedding fashion will. The couple was stylishly cool for their oceanside affair, with the groom wearing a relaxed cream suit and brown moccasins and the bride looking effortlessly elegant in her strapless tulle gown paired with statement earrings.

Imagine the warm breeze, sunny skies, and sand between your toes as you scroll through these beautiful images captured by Junebug member Javier Mendez. If you and your partner are planning a tropical big day with a panoramic beach backdrop, then this wedding has plenty of inspiration!

Why They Wanted A Costa Rica Wedding

Destination weddings are a lot to ask of your guests. Still, we knew we found the perfect fit after visiting El Mangroove, touring their fantastic facilities, and seeing how close and convenient they are to Liberia International Airport. We wanted all of our guests to feel comfortable, have a great time, and create their own memories. I think we succeeded.

Hiring A Local Planner Was The Best Decision

Weddings involve many moving pieces that are difficult to coordinate. We’re so happy we decided to hire One Heart Event Planning to help us put together an amazing vendor team that made sense for our wedding. They also had lots of great tips on how to utilize our budget in the most effective way possible.

It Was A Great Experience To Work With Junebug Member Javier Mendez

Javier felt like he was just another one of our friends and guests on the day of the wedding. He put everyone at ease and was never overly pushy. He had some great ideas for wedding photos that wouldn’t be too staged. We couldn’t be happier to have an amazing library of photos to look back on and remember all of the parts in the future.

Eco-Friendly Edible Wedding Favors That Wouldn’t Go To Waste

We try not to be wasteful so we gave out consumable wedding favors for everyone to enjoy. The refreshing, cold coconuts for the ceremony were a big hit, as were the local artisanal jellies with guests’ names on them to take home and savor.

Absolutely Picturesque Palace Courtyard Wedding

April 30, 2022 | justine

With the original wedding date at the height of the pandemic, Cris and Lara had to reschedule not once but twice, and the third time was definitely the charm! With the help of their planner Vintage Bodas and a fantastic vendor team by their side, they navigated through it all with grace, while keeping their palace courtyard wedding true to themselves.

Surrounded by hills and woodland, the couple tied the knot under a tree at the 16th-century Palacio Conde Toreno garden terrace. Hanging fabric streamers, dried foliage and florals by Materia Botánica, and a retro loveseat—the love was in the details in their natural meets romantic ceremony setting. The couple made a chic fashion statement by wearing complementing bridal separates—a high-waisted skirt and top unique to each bride paired with white booties and eye-catching accessories.

What started as a cozy and relaxed courtyard reception became a wedding concert when the band started playing. It was an exciting and perfect end to their big day as the couple and their guests danced and partied the night away. Junebug members People Truelove Tellers beautifully captured the emotions and beauty of their big day. Scroll through to know more about their wedding journey and score unique ideas for your own celebration.

The Couple:

Cris and Lara

The Wedding:

Palacio Conde Toreno, Malleza, Spain

Junebug Members People Truelove Tellers’ Insight On Cris And Lara’s Wedding Journey

I love this wedding because it is the perfect summary of a couple fighting for what they want. Cristina and Lara are wedding photographers and their relationship was an emotional earthquake for them due to the unexpectedness of their love for themselves. They managed to break down many barriers. And when it wasn’t prejudice, it was the pandemic.

They initially planned their wedding for March 2020 but they had to postpone it and celebrated instead with an Instagram Live. The second attempt was in December 2020. It was not possible, once again. So Cristina dedicated a beautiful letter to Lara in the privacy of her house. And the third time finally, mission accomplished.

Why They Decided To Have A Palace Courtyard Wedding

We chose the venue because we wanted an outdoor wedding and the courtyard at Palacio Conde Toreno was incredible for it. Plus our planner Vintage Bodas manages the place. The best and most important thing was being able to count on Marta from Vintage Bodas. She helped us throughout the process to contact vendors and make decisions. We certainly couldn’t have done it without her.

Being Intentional About Enjoying Every Moment Of Their Big Day

We wanted to get everyone to enjoy every second of the wedding, especially us. We are wedding photographers and we have lived many moments working. We know that sometimes couples don’t enjoy their day.

Unique Spin To Their Ceremony Altar

For the ceremony we decided that we had to have a loveseat at the center. We looked for backdrop inspiration on Pinterest and found a beautiful option—fabric streamers falling from a tree and it was just what we were looking for. The dried foliage and floral arrangements by Materia Botánica was the perfect complement. Our friend Virginia, from OhBlabla led a fun and emotional ceremony that we will never forget.

DIY Floral Stands For The Ceremony

The bases where the flowers were placed in the ceremony were made by Cris’ father.

Cocktail Party Reception

We served cocktail party food for the reception. Lara is a vegetarian so most of the dishes were vegetarian. There were 18 courses, three desserts, and a cheese table. Among the most praised dishes were boletus croquettes, Mexican beef cheek taco, and the typical fabada Asturiana.

A Mini Concert At Their Reception

I think the two most memorable moments were the ceremony and when the Vintage Love Band music group gave their concert. The ceremony was very emotional, because after two failed attempts due to the pandemic, we were finally there. The concert was absolutely crazy. All the guests sang and danced like never before. We hugged and jumped together. It was very exciting.

Personalized Wedding Favors

We gave the guests something that represented each one of us—a cactus because Cris loves plants and some cookies with a personalized message because Lara loves to eat.

Working With Junebug Members People Truelove Tellers

It was amazing working with Daniel and his team at People Truelove Tellers on our wedding day. For us, he is a reference in the world of wedding photography and having him with us was a dream. They helped us at all times and we hardly even realized that they were working.

Advice From The Brides: Have The Wedding You Want

I think the most important thing when planning your wedding is that you do what you want. It’s a once in a lifetime experience and no one else should decide on your tastes or ideas.

Romantic Devonshire Coastline Wedding

April 29, 2022 | justine

A beautiful coastal countryside wedding is absolutely romantic. Set in a picturesque wildflower meadow with outstanding sea views as a backdrop, Imogen and Kit’s Devonshire coastal wedding was the perfect combination of elegance and rustic charm. Even though the pandemic disrupted their wedding plans, with the help of their trusted team of vendors, the couple succeeded in making their big day their most memorable one yet.

For the occasion, the couple donned timeless wedding attire. Echoing the style of dress her mother wore on her own wedding day, the bride wore a sleek bespoke long sleeve drop waist dress by Emma Beaumont, while the dashing groom wore a classic three-piece suit. Timeless and with an old-world feel, the couple leaned into traditions that resonated with them for their ceremony at the Holbeton Church

From the stunning couple portraits at sunset to all the romantic and heartfelt moments in between, these gorgeous images captured by Junebug members Olivia & Dan will have you dreaming of your own coastal celebration.

The Couple:

Imogen and Kit

The Wedding:

Holbeton Church, Devonshire, Ireland

Junebug Members Olivia and Dan’s Thoughts On This Devonshire Coastline Wedding

Imogen and Kit met at The University Of Cambridge and went their separate ways for many years before finally getting back together. Their couple portraits are super romantic—all photographed as the sun was going down on the cliff tops. Their tipi-style wedding on the Devonshire coastline had the most incredible flowers and table decor, and there were lots of other lovely personal touches and details throughout this wedding. All in all, this wedding has high energy and a beautiful love story behind it.

Moments During The Ceremony That Gave The The Bride All The Feels

When we finally met in church, it was electric. Seeing Kit and all our families and friends, you can’t prepare for it. We’ve known each other since we were 18 and 19, with some on and off dating in between. To be taking this step together and to hear Kit call me his wife in front of all our friends and family gave me the best feeling. We’d also been told that only a few people would sing in the choir due to COVID. But as everyone got up for my arrival there appeared a full choir, all smiling at us. The music filled the church and brought everyone into the moment.

The Bride Honored Her Grandmother Through The Floral Arrangements

Miranda Hackett created an incredible floral hanging display in the tipi. It looked like the hedgerow was raining flowers and foliage on us. She picked flowers that I know my grandmother would’ve chosen had she been around to do so. My aunts spotted the connection and it was a nice way to remember her.

Chocolates and Homemade Drink Wedding Favors

We packed an old cabinet with our favorite chocolates—Reece’s pieces and Yorkie bars—Kit’s favorite whiskey, and elderflower vodka that we’d made. We wanted our guests to choose the goodies they wanted to take home.

DIY Devonshire Coastline Wedding Details

We DIY’d a lot of things for the wedding, the main thing was the booklets. I did the illustration, and Kit did the graphic design. I also made table numbers—little camping tents with candles in them. We also prepared and designed the chocolate and booze cabinet. We spent weeks hunting on eBay for a cheap vintage piece that we could then fill with labeled bottles, party glitter, chocolate, and booze in an “Alice in Wonderland” style. We were quite careful to pick and choose the DIY bits. There was a lot to organize, even without making everything ourselves.

The Bride Gave A Thoughtful And Personalized Gift To The Groom

It was important for me to give him something like an engagement ring. He is amazing at classical guitar so a new guitar was the obvious gift. It’s an ageless gift and it’s nice to think that its music will continue even after the wedding day is over.

Gourmet Twists On Camp Themed Food

We had delicious plates with a camping theme. We served pick-your-own salads, coal-fired potatoes, and canapes in egg boxes that looked great. Everyone loved opening them to see what was inside. Kit’s mum made a beautiful cake with the most amazing flavors of lemon and rosemary that was complete with cupcakes and lollipops on the side. For drinks, we had Aperols in the sun, margaritas at sundown, and elderflower vodka in the evening. Fego’s food gave everyone the sense of community we’d all been missing for years.

Working With Olivia & Dan Was Comfortable And Easy

Working with Olivia & Dan was amazing. Apart from being incredible creatives who produced the most stunning photos, they were wonderful to have around on the day—it was like hanging with friends. We were so touched by their dedication to our day and before the wedding, they even scouted the locations for photos. Apart from the photography, they were amazing at giving general advice. I’m now hunting for party excuses to have them come photograph again.

Wedding Vendors Who Became Family

I will forever be grateful for the relationships that we built with our vendors. Sam and the Wild Tipi crew became like family across the two years our wedding was getting postponed. On the day, she knew exactly how to turn the location into something out of “Alice and Wonderland”. Naomi, my makeup artist, gave me the confidence to walk down the aisle. Liam at Soby Films was our amazing videographer. Like Olivia & Dan, he was a master at his art and complemented their style perfectly. He was also so nice to have around.

Advice From The Bride: Choose Traditions That Feel Right

Our advice when it comes to wedding planning is to be ruthless. Pick plans and traditions that resonate with you. Equally, don’t be afraid to lean into traditions sometimes, the wheel doesn’t need to be reinvented. For example, we did away with invites and had booklets instead. We had ushers and bridesmaids, but our dads, mums, and best friends did the speeches. The church was traditional—the vows worked for us, saying the same vows that our parents and grandparents had said before us. We added musicians and friends to the ceremony to personalize it. Finally, find a moment together. You won’t get this day again.

Dazzling and Unique Destination Cenote Wedding

April 17, 2022 | riley

When two spiritual and artistic souls from the Big Apple travel all the way to the jungles of Mexico to get married, you know it’s going to be a unique celebration. From the ancient native traditions to incorporating disco balls in the decor, James and Erin’s eccentric style beautifully contrasted with the Tulum wilderness. With Junebug members Mango Weddings & Events by their side, their destination cenote wedding was nothing short of spectacular.

Instead of having a traditional beach wedding that the Riviera Maya is known for, the couple chose to have an intimate early morning cenote ceremony surrounded by only a few of their loved ones. With a Shaman performing the sacred rituals that included all the elements of nature, their jungle “I do’s” were both mysterious and enchanting.

Featuring a lush jungle setting and bold florals by KL Design Events and lots of candles, lanterns, and disco balls for some added sparkle and fun, their wedding reception at WILD was just as magical. And as if the day’s festivities weren’t enough, the celebration continued all night with an epic after-party of dancing and late-night snacks of churros and street corn.

From the special ceremony in the heart of the jungle to their otherworldly beachfront reception, these beautiful photos captured by Andre Gouin will surely have you dreaming of an exotic destination wedding.

The Couple:

Erin and James

The Wedding:

WILD, Tulum, Mexico

Why A Destination Cenote Wedding

James and I wanted our guests to have a unique and memorable experience in Tulum. We are not traditional in any way and wanted our wedding to really embody who we were as a couple.  That was definitely captured in our wedding with our small spiritual ceremony and an immersive food and drink experience at our reception at WILD. We danced, played the congos, smoked cigars, and ate churros and esquites into the morning. We were very close to eloping, but our families and friends mean the world to us. So we opted for an intimate destination wedding instead.

A Same-Day Edit Video For Guests Who Were Unable To Attend The Ceremony

We had to have a videographer who could do a same-day edit video, and Carlos Gallardo’s style matched what we were looking for. The video turned out amazing and was shared at our reception for all of our guests to experience that magical morning.

Why A Local Planner Is Crucial When Planning A Destination Wedding

If you are planning to do a destination wedding in another country, make sure to hire a planner who is knowledgeable about the area and really can hone in on your vision. Mango Weddings & Events curated the most perfect day for us. It encompassed everything that we wanted and more. Also, if you can travel to meet your planner prior to your wedding, definitely go see your venue and taste the food and drinks. Also, while you are there, meet with your photographer and schedule your engagement shoot so that you are comfortable shooting with them on your big day.

Incorporating Their Crystal Business With Agate Wedding Favors

James and I own a crystal and metaphysical shop, Crystals in the Raw. We wanted to incorporate crystals in some way. We decided to use agate slices as name cards. Our guests loved them and took them home as a gift from us.

The Wedding Team:

Photography – Andre Gouin
Event Planning – Mango Wedding Events
Ceremony Venue – El Buho
Reception Venue & Catering – WILD
Floral Design & Rentals – KL Design Events
Officiant – Flor y Canto
DJ – Plug-In Audiovisuals
Videography – Gallardo Films
Makeup Artist & Hair Styling – Angye Abarca
Wedding Dress – Enzoani
Bridal Accessories – Loeffler Randall
Groom’s Apparel – Suit Supply

Congratulations to James and Erin on their dazzling and unique destination cenote wedding. Many thanks to Andre Gouin for taking such beautiful photos of the best day of their lives. Gorgeous and Glam Modern Renaissance Wedding

April 16, 2022 | riley

Looking forward to post-pandemic life, Julia and Brian wanted their wedding to be marked by the creativity, color, and radical change of the Renaissance. Their modern renaissance wedding was overflowing with spectacular details of fine art and old-world glam beautifully blended with modern elements. And what better way to host a weekend-long celebration with their closest loved ones than at the historic Villa Gamberaia

Perched on top of a hill overlooking the city and the Tuscan countryside, their garden ceremony was brimming with lush florals by Tuscany Flowers, giving it a romantic and whimsical vibe. Showcasing a long table with a perfectly styled tablescape filled with colorful flowers, bowls of fruit, candlesticks in glass displays, and hanging chandeliers, their reception struck the perfect balance of opulence and quintessential Italian charm.

To top it all off, the celebration kept going with a post-reception after-party. With an incredible vendor team, stunning venue, and swoon-worthy color palette, this gorgeous destination wedding in Italy is one for the books. Scroll down to see every detail and precious moment captured by David Bastianoni. This is one of those dreamy weddings you’ll definitely want to pin to your mood board.

Junebug Members White Emotion On This Reimagined Modern Renaissance Wedding

The pandemic has changed the wedding landscape, but it’s also given people time and space for a greater appreciation for travel, culture, and creativity. As a wedding planner, I loved the theme “A Modern Renaissance.” Just like the creative change that happened during the Renaissance period, which was marked by major artistic developments, this wedding embodies that.

How A Romantic Vacation Led To Their Destination Wedding

We went on a couple’s vacation to Italy, and there we hit a point of clarity in our relationship. We were driving through the rolling hills of Tuscany, the sun was rising, the fog was lifting from the vineyards, and of course, we were blasting Andrea Bocelli. At that moment, we looked at each other, and we just knew, “You’re the one I want to do this with forever.” So naturally, we wanted to go back to that place in Italy to share that love and moment of clarity with our closest friends and family.

Using Their Wedding As An Excuse For A Three Day Vacation With Family & Friends

We loved that our wedding was not just a one-day affair but rather a three-day mini-cation for our closest friends and family members to meet each other before celebrating our love together. After the wedding, we had many people who didn’t know each other before exchanging numbers and making plans for future travels beyond the wedding.

Supporting Local Business and Women-Owned Companies

We wanted to support local businesses and small women-owned companies in the United States for our save the dates, invitations, and gifts. Etsy and word-of-mouth were helpful in finding vendors who understood our ideas.

Wedding Advice: Hire A Planner And Leave It To The Pros

We wouldn’t have been able to plan our wedding without a planner. Both Brian and I were very busy with work in New York City. We are very creative people, but planning an event was not our forte. We relied heavily on our wedding planner’s recommendations for the flowers and the venue. Having a vendor who lived in the country of our destination wedding and worked with the local vendors was key for us.

The Wedding Team:

Photography – David Bastianoni
Event Planning – White Emotion
Venue – Villa Gamberaia
Floral Design – Tuscany Flowers
Catering & Cake – Galateo
Live Music – Blu Notte Band
Videography – Varna Studios

Congratulations to Julia and Brian on their gorgeous and glam modern renaissance wedding. Big thank you to David Bastianoni for capturing all the happy memories the couple can look back on for years to come. And a special shoutout to Junebug members White Emotion for sharing this stunning wedding with us. For Julia and David, hiring a wedding planner was critical to the success of their destination wedding planning journey, making it a seamless and smooth process. With the expertise of a local planner and the right team, you and your partner will have all the support you need.

Magically Romantic Villa Pianciani Micro Wedding

April 13, 2022 | kailey

Ilaria and Claudio’s Villa Pianciani micro wedding reflected not just their love for each other, but their shared passion for the arts, culture, and history. Set in the picturesque Umbrian countryside, the hill-top neoclassical estate was the staple piece of their romantic celebration. And with the help of their dream vendor team, this couple was able to bring their vision to life, in their dream venue, drawing inspiration from the nine muses of the arts.

Guests were transported into a secret garden packed with airy delicate florals by Sartoria Floreale. Under a canopy of olive trees and a cobblestone stairway leading up to the backdrop,  this couple exchanged “I dos” in this truly magical setting. From the picture-perfect 360 scenery to the elegant fine art details, the reception was equally as whimsical.

Playing off their exquisite venue, the couple were dressed in timeless and sophisticated attire. The bride channeled effortless chic in her ivory wedding dress and cathedral veil, while the groom looked sharp in his classic suit. If you’ve been dreaming of a swoon-worthy getaway wedding, then you need to see every stunning detail and candid moment beautifully captured by Junebug members Andrea & Federica

Junebug Members Andrea & Federica’s Thoughts On This Villa Pianciani Micro Wedding

Ilaria and Claudio met at the theater. They were both young amateur actors and they immediately fell in love. What brought them together was the same passion for arts—she is a fashion designer and he is an illustrator. After almost seven years of dating, Claudio finally proposed and they immediately started planning their wedding with this vision in mind—love as the purest form of art. After scouting many locations, the couple chose Villa Pianciani as the perfect venue that could bring to life the idea they envisioned. Despite being a kind of strange late summer day, a bit gloomy and cold, the celebration of the love of two soulmates surrounded by all their loved ones was truly magical.

The Couple:

Ilaria and Claudio

The Wedding:

Spoleto PG, Italy

Junebug Vendors Made Them Feel Comfortable In Front Of The Camera

We loved working with Andrea & Federica. They went out of their way to make us feel extremely comfortable and happy. Even if we have never done a photoshoot before everything felt natural. During the ceremony and reception, they were so discreet yet captured every important moment.

Completely Customizing Their Civil Celebration

We decided to have a civil wedding so we had the chance to personalize our ceremony in every aspect. The ceremony was officiated by our close friend Matteo, our witnesses and celebrant made emotional speeches, and our little nephew brought us the wedding rings, while our favorite songs were played live.

Stress-Free Wedding Planning With Trustworthy Vendors

We live in Milan, so we planned our wedding in long distance. But because we chose our vendors carefully, collaboration and planning was seamless. Our team was perfect, they really brought our vision to life with their amazing talent and sensibility. It was a pleasure working with all of them and our marvelous wedding was the result of this chemistry. We are proud of all the people involved in this wedding, because they showed their love for us, despite the pandemic. They made everything more magical than we could ever expect.

Opting For Charity Donations Instead Of Wedding Favors

Our main wedding favor was a donation to FAI, an Italian non-profit foundation with the aim of protecting and enhancing Italy’s historical, artistic, and landscape heritage. We chose to allocate our donation to Villa Necchi Campiglio in Milan. Also, we gave each of our guests ancient small books with heartfelt written messages to show our gratitude for their presence.

Ceremony Venue – Villa Pianciani
Floral Design – Sartoria Floreale
Catering – Apollinare Catering

Just like Ilaria and Claudio, choosing a venue that’s a true representation of who you are beautifully sets the tone to your special day. Whether it’s an elegant ballroom, a cozy courtyard, or an exotic location, it’s really important to know what feels authentic to you two. Nothing is more beautiful than a wedding that lets the couple’s love story speak for itself.

Rainy Day Barcelona Vineyard Wedding

March 28, 2022 | kailey

With rows of vine-covered trellises, beautifully landscaped gardens, and an extraordinary medieval castle backdrop—the historic Torre del Veguer was the picturesque setting for Daniel and Garret’s Barcelona vineyard wedding. Surrounded by their loved ones, the two dashing grooms celebrated their special day with an incredible view and a cozy romantic vibe.

The couple originally planned to have their ceremony outdoors but moved it to the century-old stone cellar of the estate because of the weather. Between the scattered petals, the loose floral arrangements and foliage, with the glowing candles and fairy lights around the wine barrels—the last minute change worked out perfectly because their ceremony was absolutely nothing short of magical.

The couple wanted to highlight the scenery with a tented reception overlooking the vineyards. Featuring a tablescape filled with flowers and lush foliage, they dined under a canopy of string lights. The couple and their guests danced all night and had the best time with the people they love the most. Keep scrolling to see every beautiful detail and emotion captured by Oliver Viladoms Studio

Just Married Barcelona Head Planner Ana Winward Shares Her Thoughts On This Barcelona Vineyard Wedding

The ceremony was originally planned in the vineyard, between the vines, but we had to move it indoors because of the rain—this meant moving the ceremony to the cellar. Daniel, who was very worried about the weather, actually said he thought that it was meant to be because of the romantic feel that the indoor ceremony had.

My advice for soon-to-be married couples—plan as much as possible before arriving at your destination. But as soon as your  friends and family start to arrive, enjoy your time with them and relax. Us planners have everything under control so that you can enjoy yourselves.

Welcome Bags To Start Their Barcelona Vineyard Wedding On A Happy Note

Each guest received a welcome bag with a bottle of red wine, a parma ham, a cheese sachet, and a packet of grissini. The grooms wanted to thank them for making the trip and surprised them with the gifts at the hotel.

Heartfelt Ways They Personalized Their Ceremony

A very good friend officiated while family and friends did speeches in the ceremony.

There was a dessert buffet table with a selection of mini desserts, and of course, with being in Spain, mini churros and chocolate.

Totally Fun and Unique Calile Wedding

March 23, 2022 | kailey

A stunning urban venue, breathtaking cityscape views, minimalist details, great style, and personal touches—Shannon and Natasha’s Calile wedding was packed with handpicked elements that thoughtfully represented them. Surrounded by only their closest loved ones, it was a fun and unique big day that was so beautifully theirs.

The couple were very intentional about what they wanted to be a part of their special day. With the help of the bride’s dad, the DIY colorful book arbor framed the couple as they exchanged their vows during the ceremony. It was the perfect contrast to the venue’s muted interior and gold mirrored ceiling.

Featuring understated white florals in bud vases, book page table runners, and sleek gilded details—the reception that followed was a combination of whimsical romance and chic minimalism. More than anything it was an atmosphere full of fun and love, with plenty of unforgettable moments.

Scroll down to see every incredible detail—captured by Nikita Pere—that proves an urban wedding can have so much character.

A Minimalist Calile Wedding

We chose The Calile because it was absolutely stunning. It was gorgeous yet simple, modern and sleek—basically a blank canvas. It meant we could bring our ideas into the space without it becoming cluttered and overwhelming. The staff at the venue were also absolutely incredible. Our contact was so helpful, calm, and friendly.

A Unique DIY Book Arbor For Their Ceremony

My Dad helped us create the book wedding arbor for the ceremony. A metal frame was created in three parts—the two sides and the arch at the top that slotted into the sides. We then bought dollar books from the Lifeline Bookfest that had to have holes drilled in the middle so they could slide on the metal frame. It had to be transported in pieces and constructed at the venue on the day.

Creating A Ceremony That Reflected Their Love Story With Brisbane City Celebrants

We worked closely with Cara from Brisbane City Celebrants to construct a ceremony that reflected us and our story. We also brought in the book arbor and book page confetti to make it more personalized to us.

It Was An Emotional Walk Down The Aisle

Walking down the aisle towards my future husband. I started crying immediately, which turned into a torrent of giggling I couldn’t get under control.

Plan A Wedding That Reflects Your Story

Our biggest advice is to plan your wedding for you. Don’t worry about how it will look on camera, on Instagram, or to anyone else. Just try to create a day that reflects you, your partner, your relationship, and is going to mean something to you.

Tea Wedding Favors

We gave our guests tea and heart-shaped infusers because we’re also big tea-drinkers.

The Ultimate Beach Wedding Guide

March 18, 2022 | riley

With summer just around the corner, we can’t help but dream of days on the beach. We can picture it now–basking in the sunshine, waves crashing in the background, toes in the sand. There’s something undeniably magical about the ocean, so it’s no wonder that the beach is an extremely popular wedding venue. Whether you’re planning a destination wedding on a faraway island or saying “I do” on a small private stretch of shore in your hometown, there’s nothing more exciting than tying the knot on the coast.

However, planning a beach wedding still requires work. From the weather to permits to etiquette, there are a few extra steps to be mindful of during the planning process. That’s why we’re here to help you make your beach wedding dreams come true and ensure that it goes off without a hitch!

Steps For Planning A Beach Wedding

Step 1. Create A Wedding Budget

As with any wedding, creating a budget that works for you and your partner is the first–and most important–step to take. It helps you decide where your spending is allocated and is a big determining factor in your location. Luckily, using the beach tends to be cheaper than traditional venues.

If you have the money to spend on an oceanfront property, that’s always an option—it’ll also give you an address to use on your invitations. Many of these properties plan most of the wedding for you, taking the guesswork out. But this means they come with a higher price tag. If you want to save money, tying the knot right on the beach may be a better fit. When getting married on a public beach, your spending will primarily go towards permits and decor. In the long run, it can save you thousands.

Step 2. Pick Your Location

Beaches exist all over the world. From Hawaii to The Bahamas to Fiji, your options are endless. And of course, they’re all absolutely beautiful in their own way. When choosing the beach that’s best for you, consider destinations special to you and your significant other. Or choose a spot that you’ve always wanted to visit but haven’t gotten the chance to.

If you’ve got an open mind when it comes to the destination itself, think about what kind of venue you’re looking for. Browse hotels, Airbnbs, public beaches, and our website to find options you love. There will be great options everywhere you look, but they may not all fit your vision.

Step 3. Research The Weather And Choose A Date

When you think of a beach wedding, you most likely think of summertime–and this is typically the case. However, it’s important to research the weather for your destination. The last thing you want to do is book a cheap place because you found good rates only to discover that it’s the middle of hurricane season. The minute the hurricane hits, the whole wedding is canceled, and your guests won’t be able to make it. The same goes for the rainy season. While a little rain never hurt anyone, it’s wise to have a backup plan if you know there’s a chance of a storm.

Junebug Tip:

If you’re being budget-conscious while you’re researching locations, try to look at the shoulder seasons. Shoulder seasons are the times just before and just after peak travel season in your destination. For example, if May through July are peak travel seasons for your destination, the shoulder seasons would be April and August.

Step 4. Get Necessary Permits

Unless you’re getting married on private property, you’re most likely going to need a permit to get married on the beach. Check the local town ordinances to see what’s necessary for larger events. Sound like a hassle? It’s extra work! That’s why working with a wedding planner who will take care of all of these details for you is an awesome investment.

Step 5. Have A Backup Plan For Poor Weather

Unless you know that there’s not a single chance of rain–which is highly unlikely–having a backup plan is vital. This means making a little extra room in the budget for a tent or other inside ceremony and reception options.

Wedding Etiquette for Beaches

When should you send save-the-dates?

If the beach of your choice requires travel for your guests the sooner you can notify them, the better. This gives them time to book flights, hotels, take time off work, and budget for all that travel too. Ideally, you’ll want to send these save-the-dates out at least six months in advance.

Do you need to book airfare and hotel for guests?

You are not financially responsible for your guests’ travel, accommodations, or meals during the trip. However, setting up a hotel room block beforehand will help them book their lodging will be greatly appreciated. This ensures that they’re near your venue and they’re getting the best deal possible.

We also recommend outlining the best ways to get to and from the airport, some car rental companies in the area, and water ferry services if necessary. This is especially helpful in more remote locations.

How should you tell your guests to dress?

Although beach weddings tend to offer a more laidback and casual attire for guests, the dress code for your wedding is entirely up to you. No matter what dress code you choose you should state it clearly on the invitation. In fact, putting it on your wedding website for easy access will help avoid guests asking repeatedly. You don’t want to hear complaints from your guests who show up in high heels only to sink in the sand the entire time.

If you plan to have the entire wedding–both ceremony and reception–outdoors, consider offering sunscreen, sunglasses, and flip-flops as favors. This way, they can be prepared should they forget.

Planning A Beach Wedding Tips

Attire

Much like your guests’ attire, your wedding day attire is your choice. However, if you know that it’s going to be warm with plenty of sunshine, consider wearing lighter fabrics such as chiffon, tulle, or organza. If you’re wearing a suit, consider one that’s linen and lighter in color–like beige.

If you’re wearing makeup, opt for sunscreen under your foundation and waterproof mascara–although, if you’re hiring a makeup artist, they already know these tips and will ensure that you look wedding-ready throughout the day.

Decor

Beaches are truly blank slates when it comes to decor. Don’t feel pressured to go with the tropical decor if that’s not a part of your wedding vision. If you’ve always dreamed of a boho affair or a more sleek or traditional look, go for it.

The key is to be mindful of the elements. If there’s any chance of winds, forgo lightweight decor that can blow away easily. Weigh down programs before the ceremony or have an usher pass them out. Or if it’s a tropical beach with lots of scattered rain showers, be sure to use acrylic or wooden seating, as it can be wiped down after a rainstorm.

Lastly, don’t skip out on speakers. Unlike a ballroom or other indoor venue, you’re going to have a lot of background noise at a beach wedding. Use microphones during the ceremony so you don’t have to yell and keep your live music or DJ mic’d up the entire time.

Beach Wedding Dining Options

If you’re looking to make your beach wedding more authentic to your destination, choose a menu that represents that. For example, if you’re tying the knot in Tulum, serve tacos, enchiladas, and margaritas. If the wedding takes place in Hawaii, you could serve pork, rice, and mai tais. Making the dining options authentic to your location will help your guests feel like they’re soaking up the culture as much as possible and get to enjoy the destination that much more.

Now that you’re ready to start planning your beach wedding, it’s time to think color palettes! We’re loving these bright and bold color palettes for the warmer months.
