This Mexico Backyard Wedding Was Complete With Vintage Cars

November 7, 2022 | justine

Andrea and Pedro initially took a laid-back approach when planning their wedding. But after meeting with their visionary vendor team, they were set on bringing to life a Mexico backyard wedding filled with personal style, creativity, and the perfect visual of transforming a cherished space into a dreamy wedding venue

With the groom being an avid vintage car enthusiast, it was fitting that the pair said their “I do’s” at the showroom showcasing their car collection. They softened the space and added a romantic feel to it using sculptural floral pillars. Talk about a statement-making backdrop! For the reception that followed, their backyard was turned into a whimsical garden complete with a potted floral wall and a stone fountain filled with blooms.

If you and your partner have been searching for backyard wedding ideas to draw inspiration from, then look no further. Scroll through these captivating images by photographer and Junebug member Rosalinda Olivares to see exactly what we mean.

Photographer and Junebug Member Rosalinda Olivares’ Thoughts On This Mexico Backyard Wedding

Andrea and Pedro are a very relaxed couple with an incredible vibe. The groom and his dad have an amazing vintage and race car collection and a space on the property dedicated to them. When they told me that’s where the wedding ceremony would be, I was intrigued! Celebrating your wedding in your backyard means you can always return to your wedding day. This wedding can inspire couples to consider tying the knot at home.

How Their Mexico Backyard Wedding Came To Be

We have always been fans of the outdoors and enjoy outdoor activities and nature. We had never been excited about “the wedding” but more about getting married and living together. One afternoon as we walked by Pedro’s house, we thought it would be nice to have our wedding there. We wanted something small and intimate. When we met with our wedding planner, we had a meeting at Pedro’s house. As soon as they arrived, they had the vision of how to set everything up, and everything was born there. We went from not caring about the wedding to being very excited. The wedding project started to feel ours.

Weaving Their Love Story Into The Ceremony By Including Their Loved Ones

We wanted our legal ceremony to be emotional and beautiful. So we chose Christian Cortés as our master of ceremonies–someone who had an eloquent way of telling stories and has redefined the experience of wedding ceremonies in our city. We turned our wedding into an event to remember. The five witnesses who signed during the ceremony are essential to our relationship. Two of them are our best friends, the third was the one who introduced us at a party, and the fourth friend was very close to both of us long before we met at that party. We asked him to say a few words that made us cry. The fifth witness was our four-legged best friend, who came into our relationship to teach us unconditional love in its purest form.

Making Wedding Planning Decisions Together

Your wedding belongs to your partner and you. And everything requires teamwork. We divided all the tasks and always touched base to confirm that we agreed on the other’s decision. Don’t let any social rule tell you what protocol you have or don’t have to follow. Only invite the people you want to share that day with. You will enjoy them all and get excited to see each guest. Stop worrying about feeling obligated to invite.

Starting The Party By Dancing To Their Favorite Song

Pedro and I had always danced a ska-cumbia in the kitchen when we were dating. We joked that it was going to be our wedding waltz. At the wedding dinner, he asked me, “Andrea, what do you think if we open the dance floor with this song? Should I ask for it?” And I said yes! We enjoyed dancing to the song “A Mi No Me Importa El Dinero” by a band from Argentina, Los Autenticos Decadentes.

Twilight Fans Are Going To Love This Rosewood Acre Farms Wedding

October 24, 2022 | justine

There’s no denying that “Twilight” captivated the world by storm and cemented its place in pop culture. Since then, the movie has also served as inspiration for many soon-to-be-married couples. Given the enchanting forest vibe and lush greenery, a waterfall of white florals cascading from trees, and the romantic glow of candles, it’s no surprise that Jillian and Colby wanted to recreate the iconic wedding scene at their Rosewood Acre Farms wedding.

The woodland setting instantly created a magical atmosphere for their ceremony. Dreamy white flowers strung overhead led to the altar in the middle of a grove of towering trees and a circular arch adorned with foraged leaves and blooms anchored the ceremony space. The same backdrop was used for the sweetheart table for the outdoor reception that followed. Meanwhile, long wooden tables, benches, and fairy lights made the open space feel cozy and intimate.

The pair wanted their wedding to feel like a fairytale, and they achieved exactly that. And not only that, their celebration was filled with handmade details, making their big day unique and memorable. If you and your partner are thinking of saying “I do” among the trees, just like Bella and Edward, scroll through these gorgeous images captured by Livifaith Photography. Twilight fans, we guarantee you won’t want to miss this!

How Their Twilight-Inspired Rosewood Acre Farms Wedding Came To Be

I know what it sounds like, but it all started when I rewatched Twilight for the millionth time. I remember thinking how beautiful that wedding was, especially the flowers hanging from the air. That was a huge inspiration for me. But I also wanted the decor to represent me as well. I’m very eclectic in every way. Picking just one thing I like was difficult. So, why did I have to stick to just one theme when planning my wedding when that’s not who I am? I decided to draw inspiration from Pinterest as well, and that’s what helped me get organized. I mixed old and new, purchasing things from Amazon and thrifting. I also love a good DIY project and did a lot of things that way.

Why A Rosewood Acre Farms Wedding

We knew we wanted a woodsy venue to bring our vision to life, which was a Twilight-inspired wedding. We chose the Rosewood Acre Farms because of its tree grove and barn on site for shelter should you need to move things indoors. It was also very close to my parents’ house, which was really convenient.

Tailoring Their Ceremony To Align With Their Values And Personalities

We’re most proud of our ceremony, and all the praise goes to our pastor. He created a beautiful and unforgettable service. We personalized our ceremony by writing our own vows and having the officiant read them for us. That way, there would be no struggling through tears and sniffling. We highly recommend it. We also weren’t keen on the whole “you may kiss your bride” thing, so we decided not to go that route. Instead, we used a phrase that encouraged us to kiss each other.

Meaningful And Sustainable Wedding Favors

Our love phrase has always been “let love grow.” When we first started dating, we didn’t like each other’s music taste. But one day, we reflected and found out that there was a song we both really liked, “Winter Winds” by Mumford and Sons. And so, wedding gifts of tiny envelopes filled with flower seeds were an affordable and touching wedding favor that “let love grow.”

DIY Touches For An Ultra-Personal Touch

I DIY’d our wedding favors. I also thrifted vases from Goodwill to paint. I mixed baking soda and matte paint to get a ceramic look to them. I also purchased flowers whenever I found them on clearance–usually at Kroger for $3.50. I hung them upside down to dry them, which was a big part of my decor. They also made incredible natural, biodegradable confetti.

Wedding Planning Advice: Keep Things In Perspective

Take as much time as you can to plan your wedding. And don’t worry about the small details so much. When the day comes, you really won’t care at all. I had so many people asking me so many questions for so long that I got overstimulated. I remember sitting in my bridal suite with all the chaos around me, just totally drained and zoned out. I remember getting to a point the day before the wedding where I answered every question with, “I don’t care. I trust you’ll do what is best.” It gets that overwhelming. So make sure you choose a team whose taste and intuition you trust and who can take over for you if you need it. I know I did.

Congratulations to Jillian and Colby on their Rosewood Acre Farms wedding. And a big thank you to Livifaith Photography for capturing all the beautiful details Twilight fans will be swooning over and saving to their mood boards.

One of the best ways to organize your ideas is to create a mood board your trusted vendor team can use to bring your vision to life. With so much inspiration out there, it’s important to have visuals of what you and your partner like to make the wedding planning journey more streamlined and stress-free.

October 17, 2022 | justine

A charming barn venue, dreamy floral arrangements, and ethereal wedding fashion—Jessica and Christopher’s Bird’s Eye Cove Farm wedding is a dream come true for those who love boho vibes and a rustic, cozy atmosphere. And not only that, their celebration was filled with thoughtful touches that were personal to them and the people they love the most. There was so much love poured into every detail, making their day that much more special and unforgettable.

Their big day was definitely a family affair, starting with a sweet first look with Jessica’s dad, followed by a beautiful ceremony with the bride sharing the spotlight with their daughter. The barn doors, feathery pampas, and the picturesque setting of rolling hills and fields made for a beautiful backdrop for their heartfelt vow exchange. And to top it all off, the couple’s dreamy style perfectly fit the gorgeous countryside landscape. The glowing bride showed off her baby bump in a flowy dress featuring an illusion neckline, statement sleeves, and puddle train.

The sentimental and intimate nature of the celebration mixed with the earthy and carefree style, truly brought this wedding together. Scroll through these swoon-worthy images captured by Junebug member Rivkah Photography to discover unique ideas that’ll inspire you to weave your love story into your big day.

Personalizing Their Bird’s Eye Cove Farm Wedding By Including Their Loved Ones

We incorporated our family in many different ways. Our sweet little Louisa walked down the aisle before me. Chris got down on one knee, gave her a ring pop, vowed his unconditional love and protection, and asked her if he could marry her mommy. My dad had just rebuilt a 1950’s Chevy delivery van and I shocked him by asking if he would drive us to the altar in his new wheels. He was so, so excited! It was an extraordinary father-daughter moment. Growing up, my mom was a superwoman. She was our rock and our world. Even when I was in my teens, I always knew I wanted both my parents to walk me down the aisle. So my dad drove us up to the altar, where my mom was waiting for us, and I got to walk with them, hand in hand, to my fiancé waiting for me in front of an old barn to say I do.

Writing Their Own Vows Was Difficult But Worth It

The most memorable part of the day for me would, hands down, be saying my vows out loud to Chris. It was so unbelievably emotional. So powerful and magical. It brought up such intense feelings and memories and filled my heart with gratitude and love for the man I was about to marry. My vows didn’t come to me easily. I tried to write them weeks in advance but could never put thought to paper. It wasn’t until the night before that all the words came pouring out of me, and truthfully, they were the best vows I could have ever written.

Honoring Loved Ones Who Have Passed With The Bridal Fashion

My late fiancé Clinton (before Chris) passed away almost six years ago. Clinton is tethered to me in a way I can’t explain. He is such an important part of my existence and I am the person Chris fell in love with because of Clinton. I just needed to have a piece of him with me on my wedding day. In honor of Clinton, I wore his great aunt’s light pink double-layered pearl necklace. Putting this on was heartbreaking and mending at the same time. It’s a moment that means so much to me, and I will never forget it. Also, the bracelet wrapped around my bouquet belonged to my husband’s mom, who passed away when Chris was only three years old. This bracelet was given to me by Chris’ godmother, and it’s one of my most treasured belongings. Not having my mother-in-law in my life has left so many holes in my heart and world. I gripped that bracelet and my bouquet as if I was holding her hand. It felt like she was beside me, giving me all the love and comfort I needed and wanted that day. I’ve never met her, but I love her so deeply.

Maximizing Time With Loved Ones By Extending The Celebration

We rented the most extraordinary, jaw-dropping Airbnb in our hometown, which was perfect! Because we didn’t go right back to everyday life, it’s like we got to continue our wedding celebrations, and to top it off, we had our daughter and family members. That meant so much to us there. It was the best decision.

Embracing Being A Pregnant Bride

At first, I was confused about how I felt being eight months pregnant with our second child on our wedding day. It’s something I never dreamt of or envisioned for my wedding. But now, it’s one of my favorite parts. I am so in love and obsessed that our son was there, in my belly, and that I was a glowing pregnant mama bride. I couldn’t imagine it any other way now and just thinking about it makes me feel so smitten.

A Surprise Proposal On The Day Of Their Bird’s Eye Cove Farm Wedding

Chris proposed to me on our wedding day. We have a young daughter together and are expecting our second. Because the diamond for my ring was in Ontario and wouldn’t arrive until two days before the wedding, he couldn’t propose sooner. I had no idea that this was happening–that he was waiting on an heirloom diamond for my engagement ring. The morning of our wedding day, I got called out to the lower balcony of our Airbnb, where Chris was waiting for me. At first, I was confused, and then it all hit me. How could I be so nervous when we were already getting married? But I was. My heart started beating out of my chest as he got down on one knee and made me the funniest and sweetest promises for life.

How All The Details Of Their Griffin House Wedding Came Together

The vibe of our wedding came together throughout the planning process, but we knew we wanted to it to feel dreamy, romantic, enchanting, and elegant—unique to us. We knew that a destination wedding would make this occasion extra special and a fun vacation for our family. We looked online for about two weeks at venues across the country, but nothing spoke to us. And then Ab looked on Instagram and found The Griffin House in less than five minutes and nothing else even compared. The venue is absolutely stunning on its own, so we wanted to play off the natural elements around the property and feel authentic to the PNW. Our guest count also helped us make the vibe more romantic and intimate, as we could focus on ourselves and visit with our loved ones throughout the night. Ab and I have a special place in our hearts for discos, so we absolutely had to have disco balls in the reception tent. That got everyone out on the dance floor having a blast!

Making The Unpredictable Weather Work For Them

We had a few big surprises that day, and they made the moments truly magical. First was the rain, and although everyone would’ve expected us to panic, we were oddly calm and just enjoyed the weather. We do love the rain on normal days. PNW rain is more of a light mist, so since it wasn’t ceremony-ruining weather but we were prepared for it to go throughout the day. We had clear umbrellas for all our guests, which made for beautiful photos. The drizzle of the rain made it look extra dreamy and like it was straight out of a fairytale.

Proudly Showcasing Their Love And Baring Their Hearts To Each Other Through Their Vows

We’re most proud of how our vows turned out and how our love showed through to everyone. We could feel everyone looking at us with tears in their eyes and love in their hearts for us. It’s been a difficult road for two queer women growing up in the south, especially having the same name. But we persevered and got to be a representation of true love. We played rock, paper, scissors to decide who went first, which was another detail that made it unique to us (that’s how we always decide things). We both cried at our own and each other’s because we poured our hearts out to one another in front of everyone we love. Lastly, we proudly marked our love by combining our last names to make a new one together, her maiden name being Clark and mine being Nelson. We’re now the Clarksons.

Working With An Experienced Vendor Team To Bring To Life The Celebration They’ve Always Envisioned

We wanted the details to be special and mean something, and I think we were able to accomplish that. And working with the most amazing vendors brought everything to the next level. Our advice for couples who have just started their wedding planning journey is to keep your love at the center of everything you do during this process- and in life, for that matter! Jokes aside, it can be a stressful process if you take it too seriously and stress over details. Remember that the whole point is to just get married and be with your love. As long as you two leave as happily married, all went well.

Heartwarming Surprises That Made Their Griffin House Wedding Even More Special

The surprise came when I walked down the aisle, the rain stopped, and the sun came out. My mom and aunt had been praying to my Grandma all morning, asking her to be present at our ceremony from Heaven. Although I’m not religious, I felt in my heart that it was her giving us her blessing. Another surprise that we will truly never forget was from our DJ. Before our grand exit, our DJ Robby asked our guests to grab our twinkle light sticks and create a circle on the dance floor with us in the middle. He announced we would have one last special slow dance to Adele’s “Make You Feel My Love.” The song started as usual, and then we heard our voices reading our vows from the ceremony only hours before, line by line, over the instrumental bits of the song. Everyone cried happy tears again, especially us, as we soaked in the last moments of our wedding.

This Glencoe Elopement Was Full Of Rain Showers

October 6, 2022 | justine

Mary and Rosalie initially planned a grand wedding in the city. But when the pandemic hit, they did a complete 180-degree switch by jetting off to Scotland for an elopement. And this romantic alternative couldn’t have worked out more perfectly! With endless towering mountains, mysterious misty skies, and a beautiful cloudy sunset—their Glencoe elopement is proof that all you need are your closest loved ones and, of course, epic views to have the adventure of a lifetime.

The pair and their small group of guests braved the wind and rain for a long hike to their ceremony destination. At the top of the mountain they were rewarded with brief clear skies as the two pledged their love for each other. After spending the rest of the day exploring and taking stunning mountainside portraits, they all retreated to the Clachaig Inn for a night of feasting, speeches, and a whole lot of whiskey.

From postponements and travel restrictions, to cloudy skies and rain showers—this Glencoe elopement shows us that you can take a series of unfortunate events and turn it all around. Scroll through these spectacular images captured by Raini Rowell Photography and read on to know more about their incredible journey to “I do”. If mountains, hiking, and dancing in the rain is your thing, then this one’s for you!

The Couple:

Mary and Rosalie

The Wedding:

Clachaig Inn, Old Village Road, Glencoe, Ballachulish, UK

How Their Glencoe Elopement Came To Be

The pandemic put a wrench in our wedding plans. We were seeing wedding venues in our home city of New York until the day of the shutdown. We realized that we needed to turn our 150-person wedding into an elopement. After much discussion and tears, we realized this terrible event could be an opportunity to run away and get married. There were people we missed on that day, but we made the most of escaping to and exploring Scotland with our small party. We really turned the idea of a grand wedding on its head. Our dresses were both purchased secondhand. I did my own hair and makeup, and one of our friends, a makeup artist, did Mary’s. We ate dinner at a famous highland pub, and our friends put together our bouquets with flowers from the local co-op. We stripped away all the theatrics and had the celebration we always wanted. There were a lot of steps (and a shutdown) between that moment and us standing on a mountainside, but we got our wish. We felt like we were the most important people in the world yet connected and part of something bigger all at once.

Why They Decided To Elope To Scotland

What was important was the travel aspect. We were cooped up for over a year in our tiny New York City apartment. We were looking forward to being in the mountains in a different part of the world. We’d been stuck in our little apartment, which truly felt like a lifepod. We were desperate for as much of the opposite as we could find. Open air, having our people close, whether they were there physically or not, feeling safe in a country that had and was taking the pandemic seriously and who accepted us and celebrated our marriage everywhere we went.

Personalizing Their Glencoe Elopement With A Handfasting Ceremony

We found a fabulous humanist celebrant, Alyson Stewart. She guided us through some ceremony traditions, and we decided to include drinking from a quaich and a handfasting. We asked our loved ones, especially the ones who couldn’t make the journey, to send us a piece of ribbon or fabric which we then used to create our own handfasting cords. One representing each side of the family. They were all with us that day as we (literally) tied the knot.

Exploring The Mountainside For Stunning Portraits

After our ceremony, we took photos with just our photographer and videographer, married couple Raini and Dave. Those moments with just my new wife were so joyous. We celebrated by climbing mountains, running in the rain, and trekking through the scenery, just the two of us. We had been pen-friends with Raini for over a year, and meeting her and her husband Dave felt like meeting up with old friends. They took us to explore some of the most beautiful countryside I’d ever seen. I’ll truly never forget it.

Advice: Find Out What’s Important And Focus On That

Hopefully, no one else will have to derail their wedding plans because of a pandemic, but we were forced to strip away everything and focus on what we really wanted. We were suddenly facing a much smaller budget, no large gatherings, and a desire not to put our marriage on hold. If you can do some soul searching, find out what’s important to you and the person you’re marrying. Understand that not all traditions will work for you both. What mattered to both of us was being able to travel and have a honeymoon and our wedding photos. Find what is important to you, and the rest won’t matter.
Mary: Find vendors who can take the reins on the wedding day. Not only did we find Raini, who was immensely knowledgeable about the area and ready to capture every single second that she knew would matter to us later on, but we also found an incredible celebrant, Alyson Stewart. Alyson is wickedly funny, and she created a beautiful ceremony for us. Before I even stepped on the plane, I knew that, between those two, all we had to do was show up, and everything else would be in trustworthy hands.

Surprising Their Guests With Welcome Bags And A Tour

We had welcome bags for everyone upon arrival at the wedding hotel. Each bag was custom-made with a list of friends who became more than friends (think Ross and Rachel, Ron and Hermione) as that’s our love story too. We filled them with local snacks, a reusable water bottle, woolen socks, and a small gold ring with the person’s initials engraved or whisky. We also prefer experiences to gifts, and since everyone was coming such a long way, we wanted to ensure everyone had a highlands experience. Instead of a rehearsal dinner, we hired a Rabbie’s tour to take the eleven of us on a day tour the day before our wedding. We had an archery lesson, visited Oban, had a whisky tasting, and saw Kilchurn castle. Our guide was awesome, and it was such a great way to welcome everyone to our wedding weekend.

Their Photographer Was Key To Creating Their Adventure Glencoe Elopement

After our video calls with her, we felt like another friend was coming to our wedding. Raini and Dave knew the area well, and Raini ensured we got every picture on our wish list. Raini made the day—she was goofy and kept us out of our heads once the cold started to seep in. She encouraged us to go galavanting down hillsides and any other whim that caught and always joined us in the muck and the joy. Raini sent us a list of locations she thought might suit us, and she was spot-on. Her knowledge of the area was super helpful in deciding on the perfect place. We cannot recommend her highly enough.

They Hosted Their Reception At A Local Pub

We had our wedding dinner in the famed Clachaig Inn, a highland pub always on every best-of-Scotland list. It did not disappoint. We loved the informality and the homeyness of it. We loved that it wasn’t a private dining room and that we were sitting in the middle of a packed pub. They have an incredible selection of whiskeys, and the staff was lovely.

Cozy L’Auberge Saint-Gabriel Wedding With Pops Of Color

September 28, 2022 | justine

Looking forward to life after the pandemic, Nathaniel and Gabriel were ready to celebrate and share their love with family and friends. Their vision was clear–a wedding that was intimate, fun, and colorful. A true reflection of who they are as a couple. Set in a charming historic inn filled with timeless details and unexpected pops of color, their personalities shone so fabulously at their L’Auberge Saint-Gabriel wedding.

Their venue made for the most romantic setting for their celebration, with its wooden rafters, white stone walls, and speakeasy vibe. All that was needed for the ceremony were florals on gold stands to mark the spot for their vow exchange. For the reception that followed, colorful taper candles in glass containers illuminated the tablescape of delicate florals and greenery. Meanwhile, the canopy of fairy lights gave the space a cozy and dreamy glow.

To top it all off, the two grooms looked sharp in their stylish contrasting suits while taking a stroll through cobblestone streets for their portraits. See every detail and moment up close and gush over these beautiful images captured by Sarah Dagenais Photo. If old-world elegance combined with modern touches and splashes of color is your thing, then this is the perfect wedding inspo for you.

The Couple:

Nathaniel and Gabriel

The Wedding:

Auberge Saint Gabriel, Montreal QC

Advice From The Couple: Start Planning Early To Give Yourselves Time To Find The Right Vendor Team

Our biggest piece of advice when it comes to wedding planning would be to start early. It was very important for us to choose vendors we connected with and whose style we truly admired and felt best reflected us. It likely would not have been possible to work with our vendor team if we didn’t start the process early on.

Personalizing Their Ceremony By Having A Close Friend Officiate

We wanted our wedding to represent us and our relationship, and we felt like the ceremony reflected who we are as individuals and as a couple. We had to choose an officiant who knew us equally and could speak about us as individuals and as a couple. We asked a very close friend of ours who has known us for about four years, and it could not have been more perfect. In addition, we each wrote our own vows and were able to share with our guests special memories and moments of our relationship throughout the years.

Their L’Auberge Saint-Gabriel Wedding Truly Reflected Their Style And Love Story

We feel very proud that we made most of the planning decisions on our own. We were fortunate to have input from our families and friends and help from our amazing planner, but all of the final choices were ours to make. This allowed us to create an entire day and evening that fully reflected our style and relationship, and we did not feel we had to compromise on any aspects of the event.

Florals Star In This DIY White Aspen Creative Micro Wedding

September 25, 2022 | justine

Despite their small guest list, Paige and Joey’s White Aspen Creative micro wedding was big on style and unique details. With a creative display of florals, a muted monochromatic color palette, and fashion-forward attire, their stunning celebration was the perfect blend of romantic boho with luxe textures and western charm. And thanks to their planner Curated Mess Co. and talented vendor team, they took the couple’s unconventional ideas and brought their dream day to life!

Complete with vaulted ceilings, an all-white interior, and expansive windows—the cathedral-style space allowed the details to stand out. The scene was set for a heartfelt vow exchange with Louis ghost chairs, a braided jute aisle runner, and a statement backdrop of dried foliage and fresh blooms. After their ceremony, the celebration continued on the outdoor patio. Their reception featured sweetheart peacock chairs and gorgeously styled tables with earthy decor and textured arrangements. Mixed candles and overhead string lights set the cozy mood.

On top of the stunning setting, the pair’s wedding attire was the standout feature of the day. The groom perfectly matched the vibe with his beige suit with flower embellishments on the shoulders, while Paige was decked in head-to-toe florals. She looked ethereal in her floral print off-the-shoulder gown and accessorized it with a flower crown. Dawn Photo captured every must-see detail that made this celebration unforgettable. So keep scrolling for inspiration that you can quickly pin to your vision board.

Creating A Cohesive Theme And Setting The Tone Through Their DIY Stationery And Signage

Joseph is an illustrator, so he made our vow books, officiant book, save the dates, invitations, and menus. We got to express our story and who we are through illustration and continue the themes of our special day through our branding. An example is Joseph’s nickname for me is “Buggy.” So that was the inspiration behind his beetle design that was in our stationery and signage.

How Their White Aspen Creative Micro Wedding Came To Be

It was a no-brainer for us to book at White Aspen Creative. It’s the perfect size for a micro wedding. The space is bright and airy, and being in Bend, Oregon, the outdoor areas are also beautiful. We wanted to go off-site to take some of our photos. And we only had to go five minutes up the road to find the most gorgeous, scenic spot.

Advice From The Newlyweds: Make Your Wedding Your Own

We didn’t feel like we needed to follow any rules, and we stuck to that. We kept a few traditions we liked and scrapped anything that didn’t excite us. The whole day felt like a dream. Seeing everything come together had us so stoked. Then, of course, the actual getting married part was pretty rad. At the end of the day, that was all either of us cared about. Our advice is to have fun with it and stay true to what you and your partner want. Don’t think that you need to follow any rules. And finally, enjoy this special time in your life, even if things get stressful, and don’t lose sight of what the day is all about.

Cozy Yarra Valley Estate Wedding

September 18, 2022 | justine

When Hilary and David started planning their big day, they wanted to ensure their guests would have the best time ever. So the pair set out to create a memorable celebration with their loved ones by recreating moments from their relationship that have brought them the most joy. Set in a picturesque countryside venue, with stunning floral arrangements in a vibrant color palette and an elegant yet laid-back vibe—their Yarra Valley Estate wedding was as gorgeous as it was unique.

The two tied the knot in the iconic open-air chapel with magnificent mountain views and thick bushland as a backdrop. And in a playful twist, they played a game of rock-paper-scissors to determine who should say their vows first. But the fun didn’t stop there. After the ceremony, they added a competitive edge to their cocktail hour with lawn games. The party continued throughout the evening at the reception, which featured a pallet wood wall adorned with blooms and a custom neon sign, and fairy lights across the ceiling. It was the perfect cozy setting for a night of speeches, dancing, and ice cream

From the music arranged by the groom himself to the surprise magician, the couple injected personality and thought into every aspect of their big day–making it an unforgettable experience that their loved ones will talk about for years to come. Their Yarra Valley Estate Wedding Ceremony Incorporated How The Couple Met

We met playing cello in an orchestra, so we had our fellow cellist friends from the orchestra play the music at the ceremony. Walking down to the chapel and hearing the beautiful music that played on the night we met was very special. During the ceremony, our story was told by friends and family who have witnessed our relationship over the years. And in true Hilary and David style, we rock-paper-scissored it for who would go first speaking their vows. The ceremony hit the sweet spot of “just long enough” without being boring and cringe-worthy. There were tears, smiles, and plenty of laughs—so wonderfully us!

Personalizing Their Ceremony With Music Arranged By The Groom Himself

We didn’t tell anyone who was playing the music for the ceremony. David’s aunt is the conductor of the orchestra. We especially wanted to surprise her and his musical family with the orchestra connection. Music for four cellos is not common, so David had to arrange all of the music himself. This secret plan went well until, three days before the wedding, one of the cellists had to bow out with COVID. So during a committee meeting for the orchestra, David rearranged all of the music for three cellos. The surprise came off beautifully and is now another story to add to the orchestra’s history.

Their Yarra Valley Estate Wedding Perfectly Embodied The Couple’s Fun Personalities

Hilary’s mum posted some photos a couple of days later with the caption “A Weekend Party with Some Vows in the Middle.” It perfectly captured how we wanted our wedding to be remembered. We wanted absolute control to have our day the way we wanted. We are so proud that people are still commenting on how much fun they had and how “us” our wedding was.

Surprising Their Guests With A Roving Magician

We had our friends supply lawn games. These were games that we played with our friends during our relationship and have great memories of. It also meant that our friends could get the party going, bringing people together. We also had a roving magician for cocktail hour. It was a wonderful surprise for our guests, who initially thought he was another friend until he started pulling out some incredible magic tricks! It was a great icebreaker and conversation starter for our guests during what can sometimes be a bit of a lull between the ceremony and reception.

A Custom Neon Sign Made By The Bride’s Brother

We had Hilary’s brother design a custom neon sign for the reception space, which was a surprise until we walked in for dinner. He did a great job designing it, taking inspiration from our engagement announcement. It was very personal.

Greenery-Filled Grounds Of Alexandria Garden Wedding

September 16, 2022 | justine

Garden weddings are pure romance, especially when they come with the “secret garden” appeal. Imagine a lush garden venue hidden in the middle of the city, unique arrangements of fruit and blooms, and a floral tunnel filled with fairy lights. Packed with swoon-worthy details and personal touches, every detail of Nina and Mathew’s Grounds of Alexandria garden wedding is absolutely dreamy and a must-see!

Set at an iconic waterfront venue, their ceremony took place at The Coast Chapel, surrounded by their closest loved ones. Breathtaking ocean views through the stained glass windows were the perfect backdrop as the two pledged their love for each other. The celebration continued at the Grounds of Alexandria, where an enchanting garden reception awaited. Featuring cascading potted greenery above family-style tables with taper candles in antique holders, fresh fruit and delicate florals as centerpieces—they wined and dined in their own garden oasis.

The pair added modern flair to their dreamy affair with their stylish attire. The bride brought a chic edge to their big day by wearing crepe pants, a lace corset top with puff sleeves, and a billowing cape. Meanwhile, the groom kept it timeless with a classic tux. If your dream wedding includes lush foliage and spring florals, you need to see these gorgeous photos by Junebug member Olguin Photography. This is one inspiration-packed celebration you wouldn’t want to miss.

Why A Grounds Of Alexandria Garden Wedding

We wanted an open garden setting with lots of fresh air. And we just love the food and the vibe of The Grounds of Alexandria. Plus, the venue already had lots of flowers and greenery, so we didn’t spend so much on decor.

Personalizing Their Ceremony By Incorporating Both Their Beliefs And Traditions

Our ceremony was a mix of cultures, religious beliefs and traditions. We found a chapel that would allow us to facilitate our ceremony with a celebrant. Since we didn’t want a religious wedding, we respected Mat’s family’s beliefs by getting married at The Coast Chapel.

Letting Go If Things Don’t Go As Planned

We were lucky that our families helped us with our wedding. But what made the planning easier for us was having a clear communication system and sticking to the budget. We didn’t leave things last minute, but we also knew that plans never run as intended, no matter how carefully we planned them.

Working With Junebug Member Olguin Photography.

Olguin Photography was fantastic! He guided us through the day and made taking photos one of the best parts. A very professional photographer, Alex captured our special moments which was all that we really wanted.

Luxuriously Boho Akiin Tulum Destination Wedding

September 11, 2022 | justine

As a couple from two different countries, Robyn and Mike decided to “meet halfway” with their loved ones for their big day. And what better way to bring them all together than by turning their Tulum destination wedding into a getaway vacation! Boasting a deep rich sunset-inspired color palette, show-stopping floral arrangements, and a boho luxe aesthetic, the couple–along with their talented vendor team–created a stunning celebration at one of the best spots in the Mexican Caribbean.

With an aisle of layered rugs leading to a unique crescent arch, the ceremony was set on the beautiful shores of Akiin Beach. For the reception, candles and lush florals lined the staircase and greeted guests as they made their way to the thatch-roofed palapa. Abundant blooms, tropical foliage, and feathery pampas filled the tablescapes. And we can’t forget about the gorgeous overhead disco ball installation. After the evening festivities, the celebration continued with an epic after-party complete with samba dancers, stilt walkers, and drum beaters!

The romantic atmosphere and festive vibe truly embodied what Robyn and Mike envisioned. From the stylish lounges and dreamy dance floor set up at the beach to the lit party accessories, you need to see all the spectacular details up close. Looking for beach wedding inspiration that’s equal parts laid-back luxury and fiery romance? Then you need to see these incredible images captured by Andre Gouin Photography.

Bringing Their Loved Ones Together For Their Tulum Destination Wedding

I’m from England, and Mike is from the U.S. We knew we wanted a destination wedding and for all our loved ones to meet in one place where we could all have a wonderful vacation. We fell in love with Tulum a few years prior and knew it would be the perfect place to share with our friends and family. Akiin proved itself to be the perfect venue in Tulum for us. We were able to customize the entire venue along with Fresa Weddings and Magnolia Events. Akiin also holds a large guest capacity–more than many venues in Tulum. We were able to have our large wedding of 80 guests without sacrificing the destination of our dreams.

Personalizing Their Day With A Private Vow Exchange And A Special Mayan Ceremony

We shared our first looks and read our vows to each other in front of our family and wedding party in the stunning entryway of Casa Malca. It was a private moment we could cherish with our loved ones. The ceremony that followed at Akiin was unbelievably special. We felt it necessary to honor the sacred ground we celebrated on. So, just after our dear friend Nick greeted our guests, Spirituality Riviera Maya gave us an incredible Prehispanic Mayan ceremony that drenched the evening in plumes of copal and united us forever with words of healing, wisdom, and love. Letting the elements of nature—Mother Earth and the “heart of the sky”—know of our commitment through different rituals and offerings.

Creating A Wedding Day That Truly Embodied Their Personalities And Love Story

The most important part of planning our wedding was ensuring that our day reflected us as a couple and was as unique as we were. We wanted our guests to be able to feel that every part of the wedding embodied us—how much fun we like to have, the abundance of love we share, and how spiritual the sacred Mayan ground was. Lastly, we also wanted to feel like “the main characters,” and truly every moving piece of the day went so perfectly that it didn’t seem real, just like a dream.

Hiring A Local Planner Was Essential To The Success Of Their Destination Wedding

We wouldn’t have been able to do it without Sofía of Magnolia Events helping us with all the details for our wedding. We’d tell her and our wedding designer Kristee of Fresa Weddings what we liked, not knowing a single thing about planning a wedding, and they would find us exactly what we wanted, often finding multiple options for us. From helping us choose and contact our vendors to helping us make decisions about what color the taper candles should be, they absolutely crafted the wedding of our dreams.

Surprising Their Guests With An After-Party Complete With Exciting Performances

Our evening reception took place in the beautiful palapa. Filled with love and laughter and just buzzing with conversation and pure happiness, shared by all of us as the sun went down. The venue was filled with florals, lit beautifully by candles whose soft light danced across the disco balls and created the most romantic setting for an intimate dinner. We love a good party and never wanted a moment of downtime for our guests. As soon as dinner ended, we took to the dance floor to share our first dance and then surprised our guests with an unforgettable performance by samba dancers, percussionists, stilt walkers, and water drums. All to get the party started. DJ Dulce Rullan played the perfect music to set the mood for us all to dance the night away
