Intentional North Carolina Forest Wedding

Amber and Finnegan’s wedding vision was to create an intentional and inclusive celebration– and that’s precisely what they did. From the thoughtful pronoun pins and rainbow flags to supporting inclusive vendors, their North Carolina forest wedding reflected their values and showcased their queer love. They incorporated everything they held dear into the details.

As much as their big day was meaningful, it was picturesque as well. They exchanged their vows along the river with stunning forest and mountain views in the background, while a rustic driftwood arch adorned with wild ground florals framed the moment they said, “I do.” And in an unexpected turn of events, they wrapped things up by jumping into the river–talk about splashing your way into being newlyweds!

After all that excitement, they returned to their cabin for a cozy and fun reception. Complete with a rainbow wedding cake, a drag queen performance, and a sparkler exit, it was the perfect way to end their big day. Everything about their wedding was full of love, and these beautiful photos captured by Folk and Wayfarer tell the whole story. So keep scrolling to see every magical moment.

Why A North Carolina Forest Wedding

We wanted to create a day and space that spoke to us. And not surprisingly, the vibe that spoke to us was queer forest fairy. Full disclosure? We never looked at another venue. This was also the hallmark of our planning process. Once we saw something we liked, we just picked it. We tried hard to have only a few options in the mix since that can cause too much overanalyzing.

Advice: Have Several Ceremonies To Take The Pressure Off

Our advice is to get married before you get married. What we mean by that is to have your own ceremony before you do the big one. We got married three times that week–once with our family and two friends, one with mushy romantic vows in the spot we got engaged, and then the big day with all the incredible people we know. Getting married before the big day took all of the pressure off. Nothing had to be perfect or go exactly as planned. Everything could be a big wonderful mess, and it was beautiful. We would recommend this to everyone!

Creating A Ceremony That Reflected Their Values

Our stellar officiant Wendy started with queerly beloved and did a fantastic job personalizing our ceremony. We chose romantic roommates for life instead of the traditional husband and wife. We also removed every piece of misogynistic/patriarchal wording. And  replaced it with things like we promise to be on each other’s team and assume that the other person is doing the best they can with the tools and resources they have at the time.

Supporting Queer Vendors And Donating To Their Charity Of Choice

I am proud that our wedding was a safe, inclusive space that celebrated queer love and that we got to be surrounded by incredible people. Additionally, we wanted to be able to support queer vendors, which we did, and we used our wedding funds to donate to the Carolina Abortion fund.

How They Created Their North Carolina Forest Wedding Budget

We talked for a long time about what was most important to us versus what was not quite as necessary and weighted more funds on more substantial items. For instance, my dresses were inexpensive, and we opted out of having a wedding party.

Seaside Cape Fahn Hotel Wedding

January 29, 2023 | justine

Maple and Miguel wanted their closest loved ones from all over the world to join them on their big day. And what better way to bring them together than a destination wedding in paradise that also reminded them of home! Set on a private island with rocky cliffs, lush greenery, and panoramic ocean views, their Cape Fahn Hotel wedding boasted picturesque scenery, gorgeous florals, and stylish wedding fashion.

With the help of planner The Wedding Bliss Thailand, their waterfront wedding was beyond stunning. Their ceremony overlooking the ocean featured a curved aisled leading to an altar on the rocks. After exchanging heartfelt vows, they had to move the festivities indoors because of the rain. But this didn’t mean that their celebration was any less spectacular. Their reception featured tablescapes covered in airy florals, candles, and gold accents. On top of that, crystal chandeliers and a greenery installation were the perfect dreamy touch and tied it all together.

The romantic atmosphere and intimate vibe truly embodied what Maple and Miguel envisioned. Looking for beach wedding inspiration that’s romantic, whimsical, and timeless? Look no further and scroll through these incredible images captured by ProudRad.

The Couple:

Maple and Miguel

The Wedding:

Cape Fahn Hotel, Koh Samui, Thailand

The Inspiration Behind Their Cape Fahn Hotel Wedding

Our wedding was inspired by our adventures together. We love to travel to national parks on road trips, and California is our home. We wanted to get married in a wedding scene that blended with the landscape, brought out the natural beauty of Koh Samui, and reminded us of the California Coast. Cape Fahn Hotel‘s wedding venue has cliffs above the sea where we could exchange our vows and immerse ourselves in nature.

Choosing Their Venue Because Of The Incredible Scenery

We never visited Cape Fahn until the day before our wedding. We saw a photograph of the wedding terrace with cliffs above the sea. We instantly fell in love with the venue because it reminded us of our home—the California coast. It’s rare to see this kind of natural beauty on a tropical island in Thailand, but the rocky cliffs and wild plants were reminiscent of our road trip adventures in the Golden State. Cape Fahn Hotel is its own private island off the main island of Samui. We knew that the journey to our wedding venue added an element of adventure to our day. We all had to cross a little stretch of water between the two islands to get to the resort.

Sharing Their Wedding Mood Board To Communicate Their Vision To Their Vendors

In the planning process, we shared several images of organic, non-traditional aisles with whimsical and floral greenery. Our talented wedding designer, The Wedding Bliss Thailand, understood the assignment by taking our visual cues and designing our dream wedding. The wedding aisle and altar had a playful combination of lunaria, wild plants, and florals. We’d never seen anything like it in a magazine or movie.

Selecting Florals And Greenery That Reminded Them Of Their Home

The florals and plants selected for our wedding aisle and altar were truly unique to our tastes. The lunaria plant represents our relationship (we have them in our living room). Our wedding planner integrated lunaria throughout the day to personalize our wedding. We had it in the wedding aisle and altar. The sun would reflect on it, giving the plant an iridescent effect. We also placed little lunaria bundles on our guests’ baroque plates.

Including Their Beloved Pet In The Cape Fahn Hotel Wedding Ceremony

Having our miniature schnauzer Maroo be a part of our ceremony was really important to us. Maroo had a rope leash adorned with leaves. We never got to rehearse the walk with Maroo, and he did a great job walking down the natural form of the aisle as the “ring bearer.”

Advice From The Newlyweds: Plan The Wedding You Want

Our advice is to go with your gut. Get married in a place that is beautiful and feels right to you. Get married under the sun. Embrace the weather and rain. Choose wedding songs that make you feel victorious as a couple. Try to focus on each other and your shared vision. Hire the best wedding planner for your budget, so you can enjoy your beautiful day together without stressing over the details and flow of the day.

Fully Trusting Their Vendors To Bring Their Vision Cape Fahn Hotel Wedding To Life

We didn’t go too deep into the details. We were also pretty short on time. We gave our wedding planner and designer enough ideas and mood boards to give them a sense of our vision. Trusting them fully with the details left us the chance to be surprised and experience certain things with fresh eyes. We didn’t know the size of the stage and the exact location where we’d have our first dance. When we walked onto the beach that night, we were in awe of the stage under the fairy lights and pine trees. The not-knowing of many things allowed us to feel and enjoy every second.

Making Their Dream Cape Fahn Hotel Wedding Come To Life In Less Than Six Months

Planning the wedding together and designing it according to our dreams and aspirations was most important to us. We planned our destination wedding in less than six months. We didn’t want to over plan, and our decision to get married came soon after our careers kicked off. We stayed focused on each others’ needs during the planning process. Choosing the venue, the menu, the florals, the program, the songs, and planning the wedding together felt like directing a movie together. Planning it together made it our wedding of a lifetime, and it certainly was a dream.

Making The Rain Work In Their Favor

It rained the moment we kissed, like a scene from a Hollywood film. Our guests said so too. It rained for hours, so our wedding planner moved our outdoor beach reception indoors. We loved having all our family and friends dine indoors and in the same room. The wedding felt intimate by having us all together in a smaller space, and the entire room fell silent during speeches. The chandeliers, wild greenery, and touches of elegance made the night feel magical.

Sunflower Filled Nu Tulum Destination Wedding

January 25, 2023 | kailey

Alex and Tyler had one priority on their big day: to be surrounded by all of their loved ones. And this adventurous couple did just that in their Nu Tulum destination wedding–literally. Instead of a long traditional aisle, they decided to switch things up with a circular seating chart—all suggested by their wedding planner, Destination Weddings Tulum. It was the perfect way to spice up their already stunning venue.

Despite their truly unique seating, the florals still managed to take center stage. Their florist, Grisel Florals, created a grounded floral installation and bouquets that were a true work of art. We’re talking about a stunning mix of purples, yellows, and tropical greenery that carried into their reception space.

This couple wanted their wedding to double as a vacation getaway, and they absolutely nailed it. If you’re not yet convinced a destination wedding is for you, you will be after catching one glimpse of these stunning images captured by Junebug photographer Memory Box Photography.

The Couple:

Alex and Tyler

The Wedding:

Nu Tulum, Tulum, Mexico

This Nu Tulum Destination Wedding Doubled As A Family Reunion

We decided pretty early on that we wanted a destination wedding. Not only is travel a huge part of our relationship, but we wanted to provide a unifying and relaxing vacation for all of our loved ones. Our wedding was the first vacation many of our loved ones could take since Covid began in 2020. Not only were we proud of ourselves for planning a wedding in another country, but also the fact that we were able to bring all of our loved ones together.

Forgetting The Wedding Bands During The Ceremony

Two moments that stood out were our first look and seeing our ceremony space for the first time. But the most memorable moment for us was having Tyler’s sister beautifully officiate the ceremony. Plus, we can’t forget the looks on our loved ones’ faces when they realized they’d forgotten our wedding bands. Instead, we had to use our father’s rings during our ring exchange. It turned into an incredibly sweet moment that  we laughed about.. But don’t worry! Our actual wedding bands were safe and sound, and we exchanged them later that night when we got back to our hotel!

How To Deal With Expectations From Loved Ones

Opinions of loved ones will flood in during your wedding planning season, but we decided that we weren’t going to argue because of what other people outside of our relationship wanted. We agreed that after deciding on each wedding day detail as a couple, we would defend the decision as “ours,” not just as one of the brides’. Because of this, we didn’t argue once throughout the planning process. So our biggest piece of advice is to remember that it’s really all about you and your spouse-to-be.

Being “Surrounded” By Family With Circle Ceremony Seating

Our first “must-have” wedding detail was circular seating. We’re both pretty shy, and we loved the idea of literally being “surrounded” by friends and family. So instead of a long traditional aisle, we had a short aisle and arranged all of the guest’s chairs in a circle with us in the center.  We also wanted to draw special attention to the fact that we are the first LGBTQ wedding in both of our families.

A Restaurant Venue Fit For A Foodie

When we decided on a destination wedding, everyone thought we’d choose a hotel or resort. But choosing a hotel that everyone would like felt daunting. With Tyler being a huge foodie, we wanted to be somewhere that was both beautiful and had incredible food. That’s why we opted for a restaurant.

Colorful Le Manoir de la Foulquetière Wedding

January 16, 2023 | justine

Le Manoir de la Foulquetière wedding

One day was just not enough time to celebrate the love of Ben and Sarah. Instead, they chose to host a memorable four-day wedding in the French countryside away from home. Set in a breathtaking 15th-century Chateau, they used wild floral arrangements, a romantic color palette, and cottage chic decor to transform the  Manoir de la Foulquetière into a  charming venue space. And not only that, they pulled off this stunning celebration without a planner too!

Surrounded by the countryside woodlands, the couple tied the knot in the estate garden. With rustic wooden chairs and benches, a flower-filled aisle, and an overgrown arch—their love was infused into every detail incorporated into their ceremony setting. For the reception that followed, guests were greeted with tablescapes filled with wild blooms and foraged greenery. It started as a cozy and relaxed dinner, but as soon as the band started playing, it kicked off the fun after-party. It was the perfect end to their big day as they danced the night away.

If you love the idea of a lovely countryside wedding, then this wedding is for you. And The French Wedding Photographer beautifully captured the emotion and beauty of their big day. Scroll through to see more and score unique ideas for your own celebration.

The Wedding:

Manoir de la Foulquetière, Lucay-le-Male, France

A Destination Just a Drive Away

We knew we wanted a French venue and one that was possible for our guests to drive to from the UK. We found Manoir de la Foulquetière on the French Wedding Venues website and instantly loved the rustic style of the building and the stunning grounds. Once we found our ideal place, we planned everything else around it. Being able to host our guests over four days was fantastic and allowed everyone to relax. It wouldn’t have been possible to achieve this in the UK for the exact costs.

How They Pulled Off Their Manoir de la Foulquetière Wedding

We’re proud that we managed to plan everything in a different country and that it all came together. We were fortunate enough that our venue had English-speaking owners and that several of our wedding party spoke fluent French on the day. This helped us a lot with both the long and short-term planning and the liaising with vendors. Without this, we would have found planning a destination wedding more challenging.

DIY Wedding Decor And Favors For This Le Manoir de la Foulquetière wedding

We made several aspects of the wedding decor ourselves and brought them from the UK. And the DIY decor absolutely made our Le Manoir de la Foulquetière wedding. We created the seating plan, favor boxes, photo station, and children’s gift boxes. For inspiration, we used Pinterest and other bridal websites.

Macarons As A Sweet Thank You Gesture For Their Guests

As we were in France, we gave our guests macarons at our Le Manoir de la Foulquetière wedding. We liaised with the venue to find a local patisserie and picked them up in the morning so they were fresh.

Going For An Edgy And Romantic Vibe For Their Fermenting Cellar Wedding

Jeff and I were very much on the same page when it came to the feeling of our wedding. We wanted an indoor fall wedding, and the Fermenting Cellar fit our moody vibe perfectly. It was the only venue we went to visit. We wanted it to feel enchanting and unique, while embodying our love for edgier aesthetics. The overall theme we wanted was “moody and romantic,” with lots of darker elements, including the flowers, candles, and plates. The flowers were out of this world. But most importantly, everyone constantly told us how much love you could feel in the room.

English Garden Party Wedding At Howe Garden

January 9, 2023 | justine

Lush florals, exquisite vintage decor, and lots of sentimental touches made Sidney and Tom’s English garden party wedding truly unforgettable. Every element was meticulously planned and hand-picked, from the decadent invitation suite to their classic three-tier piped cake. Old-world beauty, heirloom details, and romantic blooms—sounds like a dream, doesn’t it?

Famous for its extensive stonework and secret garden paths, the couple’s ceremony was set perfectly at the Howe Garden. With the beauty of the garden-scape as a stunning backdrop, the couple exchanged heartfelt vows surrounded by their loved ones. Meanwhile, cascading greenery and textured arrangements brought the outdoors in and softened the contemporary aesthetic of their reception space. And tying it all together were tablescapes featuring antique candelabras and gilded settings.

If you and your partner are drawn to this whimsical and ethereal vibe, prepare to be blown away. Scroll through to see all the swoon-worthy details captured by Laklin Brooke Photography. By the time you’re finished, you’ll be bursting with ideas you’re definitely going to want to share with your team of vendors.

The Couple:

Sidney and Tom

The Wedding:

Nashville, Tennessee, United States

Setting The Tone With Their DIY’d Stationery

Flowers and gardening are among my greatest joys, so I was elated to be married at the Howe Garden. The vibes were very “English garden party.” I’m a graphic designer by trade and wanted to set the event’s tone with our stationery suite. Decadent handmade paper with a deckled (torn) edge in muted blue and rose tones paired with an elegant gold foil script reminiscent of 19th-century calligraphy struck a balance between ease and elegance. The vintage floral etchings I sourced for the stationery suite were a thread throughout the printed materials and signage.

How Their English Garden Wedding Party Came To Be

Our main goal was to stay focused on why Tom and I were getting married and not get too wrapped up in being a perfectionist about everything. We wanted our design decisions–from florals to decor–to feel inspired and intentional. We kept rolling with the English garden party theme and covered the ceremony and reception spaces in garden roses, wisteria, snapdragons, delphinium, ranunculus, hydrangea, and tons of wispy greenery. We were resourceful in sourcing everything from vintage china and glassware to incorporating my grandmother’s and even great-grandmother’s antique linens for the napkins. I got feedback from guests that every wedding detail felt “touched.” That was a great compliment because it was important that everyone felt special and immersed in the experience we were creating.

Thrifting A Year Ahead To Find Vintage Decor For This Garden Party Wedding

There were three things I knew for sure we wanted for the wedding: vintage brass candlesticks and pastel candles, multicolor stemmed glassware, and mismatched floral china for the reception. Already avid thrifters, my mom and I started scouring thrift stores and yard sales more than a year before the wedding date to ensure we could find a unique and authentic collection of vintage wares. We even took a pair of thrifted floral chintz drapes and upholstered mine and Tom’s chairs at the head table with them.

Getting Help From The Bride’s Mother Who Happens To Do Wedding Styling

Mansion & Marsh, which happens to be owned by my mother, absolutely dedicated herself to this event for over a year (almost two) to make it so special and meaningful for us. She puts her whole heart and soul into the experiences she creates, whether the client is her own daughter or otherwise. She’s truly a gem that strikes the perfect balance between exquisite taste and gritty resourcefulness. No one throws a party as she does.

Advice From The Newlyweds: Take Portraits Before Their Garden Party Wedding

Lean into the joy of it all and do your best to stay present. I kept hearing people say they could hardly remember their wedding days. For me, focusing on staying grounded helped the actual day feel less of a blur. Also, the wedding day is so jam-packed there’s only a little time to spend getting portraits of just you. Doing it a few weeks beforehand gives you a chance to do a hair and makeup trial. Try on your whole look and make a mental note of anything you need to get before the wedding day. I had mine taken in my grandparent’s formal sitting room on my great-grandmother’s vintage settee. They turned out beautifully, and they will always be sentimental to me.

Groovy 70s Gardens Wedding Center Wedding

January 9, 2023 | justine

Drawing inspiration from the Victorian fashion revival during the 1970s, Megan and Andrew were set on creating an event that oozed with old-world charm, a groovy color palette, and a Wes Anderson-level attention to detail. And the result was as stunning as it was eclectic. Their Gardens Wedding Center wedding was loaded with authentic vintage elements, which were all integral in setting the vibe they envisioned—from the stationery and decor down to their fashion.

For their garden ceremony, they transformed the space with vintage aisle rugs leading to an altar with a carved teak room divider adorned with dried blooms and Victorian chairs. For the marquee reception that followed, the standout features were the lace-covered tablescapes with vintage books, oil lamps, amber glassware, and gilded mirrors that served as centerpieces.

The couple put a lot of love into how they wanted their wedding to look and feel, and it all turned out beautifully. Junebug member Simply Finn captured every last fabulous and well-thought-out detail. If you’re an unconventional couple looking for something quirky and unique, this wedding is the perfect inspo for you.

The Couple:

Megan and Andrew

The Wedding:

Gardens Wedding Center, Allenton, Wisconsin, United States

Junebug Member Simply Finn’s Thoughts On This 70s Gardens Wedding Center Wedding

Megan and Andrew’s wedding day was the culmination of two years of planning, endless hours of DIY’ing, and an obsession with curating the perfect, most “Megan and Andrew” vibe the couple could have within their budget. The bride works as an interior designer and sells vintage goods on the side. So collecting all these elements was a process that came naturally. Many of the items integrated into the wedding design were already a part of the couple’s home. It was a testament to how true their big day was to their style. All their signage included classic rock lyrics, an homage to their shared love of the classics. They had such a joy-filled, incredible day thanks to the help of talented vendors and a team of genuinely unmatched family and friends.

How Their Long Engagement Allowed Them To Bring Their 70s Gardens Wedding Center Wedding To Life

Our long engagement allowed for some grace periods where we could completely forget about wedding planning for certain periods and come back refreshed and ready to get more done. We had plenty of time to procure many vintage items. From antique mirrors and 70s amber glassware to brass incense holders and an aisle’s worth of vintage rugs. Our vision came together beautifully, and everything felt so “us,” which was exactly what we were hoping for. This meant hyper-focusing on details and not settling for things that didn’t feel perfect for our day. And our day far surpassed our expectations. We are lucky to have a great support system and incredible vendors. We are also proud that we planned the whole thing ourselves and DIY’d all of the decor

Adding A Special Time Capsule Ceremony As A Personal Touch

During the ceremony, we asked our parents to the altar to partake in a special time capsule ceremony. Both sets of our parents have been married for over 40 years. So we asked them to place marriage advice in a box with a bottle of wine. We all took turns nailing the box shut. We will open this box on an anniversary to relive all the joy of our wedding day. After our kiss, we walked up the aisle, arms linked, to “The Man in Me” by Bob Dylan. A song Andrew covered and recorded for me as an anniversary present.

70s Themed Wedding Fashion That Included A Dress That Paid Homage To The Bride’s Mom

We were incredibly inspired by the 1970s, specifically the Victorian revival. I wore an all-lace gown from Needle & Thread that was altered by my sister to include billowy bishop sleeves, an homage to our mother’s 1970s wedding dress. Andrew wore a 70s-inspired floral shirt and a velvet blazer with caramel-colored chinos. We both opted to wear lace-up leather boots instead of traditional wedding shoes.

A Cocktail Hour Inspired By The Bar Where They Began Dating

We designed our cocktail hour to feel like a hang sesh at our favorite bar, Shaker’s Cigar Bar, where we became “official.” Vintage brass incense burners billowed with the sweet aroma of bourbon and brown sugar as guests filled their glasses and lit their cigars. We had Shaker’s house band, Professor Pinkerton’s Irrelevant Orchestra, kick off the cocktail hour with their six-piece jazz band. Also a cigar bar and some incredible signature cocktails—Fig Gin & Jams and Spiced Pear Moscow Mules. We had to be dragged away from the band and cigar bar because we were having so much fun.

Why They Chose The Gardens Wedding Center As Their Venue

We always envisioned an outdoor wedding, so when we came across a venue with several outdoor spaces available for use and the backdrop of an 1800s church and schoolhouse in Milwaukee’s famous Cream City Brick, we were sold. We loved that even with a plan for an outdoor wedding, The Gardens had a built-in rain plan through the chapel. Luckily, we had a gorgeous day, 75° and sunny. So we were able to have an entirely outdoor wedding as planned.

Wedding Planning Advice: Write Down Your Priorities & Ask For Help

We started the wedding planning by each writing down our top three priorities and seeing where the overlap was. We focused our energy on those common priorities. Returning to those priorities in times when we were freaking out was very helpful. Communication throughout the whole process is also key. There was a time when Andrew thought everything was totally fine and under control. Until I came to him and said, “Hey, I am really stressed out! Can you take on some tasks?” Your partner won’t know what you need help with unless you communicate. So save yourself some stress and do regular check-ins.

How They Handled Going Over Their Wedding Budget

In the words of Andrew, “Write down what you feel comfortable spending, then double that number.” We did end up spending more than we initially thought we would, but no more than we could realistically afford. We didn’t want to go into debt for our wedding day, so we spent our two-year engagement saving up. Paying things off over those two years was extremely helpful.

Colorful & Flower Filled Floral Hall Wedding

January 2, 2023 | justine

Gita and Sergei had one goal in mind: to fill their Floral Hall wedding day with personal touches and nods to the places and people that matter most to them. A ceremony at their local pub, a reception at their favorite restaurant, and an after-party at home—every moment was meaningful and spent with their nearest and dearest. And not only that, because the bride herself is a florist, naturally, there was a spectacular display of arrangements!

Using a pastel color palette, they transformed their venues with colorful blooms that perfectly complemented the earthy industrial interior. On top of that, the couple wanted the details to feel romantic yet tie into the urban vibe of the location. So to add a modern touch, the couple chose to wear chic attire for the occasion. The groom rocked a relaxed suit in brown while the bride stunned in a structured two-piece ensemble with statement sleeves.

This Floral Hall wedding was unforgettable, thanks to the intimate and sentimental nature of the celebration and the stunning aesthetic. And thankfully, Epic Love Story captured all of it. So keep scrolling to know more about the sweet story behind the images and take in all the swoon-worthy moments guaranteed to inspire you for your own big day.

The Couple:

Gita and Sergei

The Wedding:

London, United Kingdom

Customizing A Two Piece To Reflect The Bride’s Style And Preference

We wanted to look more modern than romantic. I absolutely adore huge sleeves, so I asked the designer to customize my dress, which wasn’t a dress but a top and skirt. My attire needed to be made from heavy fabric with geometric elements, and I found the one exactly as I dreamed. I complimented my look with a very geometrically shaped green bag by Cult Gaia, which I love and think is a real piece of art.

How Their Floral Hall Wedding Came To Be

We started by booking our favorite bar for our ceremony and our favorite local restaurant for the reception. Both venues gave us a lot of inspiration. We wrote down all things we love and tried to incorporate them into the style and look of our wedding day. One of the first things on our list was the color palette. As a floral designer, I had to create my own wedding floristry, including lots of pastel colors. And I had to balance them with more earthy and natural tones, as both venues have lots of brown and green shades. We both love oysters, so we put oysters on our save-the-dates and menus. London was the big inspiration for the style and visual concept of the day. We both love big cities, so we wanted our day to be modern with an urban feel.

Personal Touches During The Ceremony

We had a humanist wedding, which meant that the whole ceremony was created to be unique and very personal. Our lovely celebrant Kathryn included a very meaningful ring-warming ritual in the ceremony. She also asked our guests to write marriage advice or wishes for us, and Sergei’s best man with his wife read them during the ceremony.

They Filled Their Special Day With All Their Loves And Faves

It was important for us to celebrate our love in places we know and love, so we chose our favorite local bar and restaurant, where we have been going for amazing food and drinks. We got ready together and had oysters and champagne before leaving for the ceremony. It was lovely, as oysters and champagne are our favorite Saturday traditions. The ceremony was very emotional. Our celebrant Kathryn made it very special, funny, and sentimental at the same time. Our beloved dog Emma was looking at us with such sincere love in her eyes that it made us tear up. The dinner at Perilla was more than just food. It was an experience that our friends still talked about with excitement. The chef ensured that each dish was perfectly paired with wine and presented to our guests. We had an afterparty at our flat with our closest friends who were not sleepy enough to go home. There were lots of laughs, ordering pizza, and drinking more champagne.

Handmade Giveaways Made By Their Best Friend

One of my best friends, Anastasia–a brilliant and gifted chemical engineer–handmade our guest’s little gift boxes with bath salt and bombs. These little boxes also made our reception venue smell very nice.

Having A Stylish Suit Made That The Groom Can Rewear

Sergei hates classic suits and wanted perfectly sitting trousers and a double-breasted blazer. We couldn’t find anything like that in the shops, so we got a custom-made one, which was the best decision. It was also important for Sergei that he would be able to wear a suit after the wedding, so it needed to be not too official and strict. As the suit was very relaxed and a bit oversized, Sergei combined it with chunky loafers by Alexander McQueen.

Advice From The Newlyweds

It was essential that we felt chill on our wedding day and didn’t need to rush or worry about anything. We wanted to ensure we both enjoyed the day to the fullest and have our closest on board to share it with us. Our advice is to make your wedding day as you want, without compromising on anything you like. Celebrate the love loud and brave! Prioritize yourself and your partner. Please yourselves, not others. It is your wedding day. Make it extra special. Don’t be afraid of color, unusual solutions, hot dance moves, and loud music.

Italian Dinner Party Inspired Assembly Yard Wedding

January 2, 2023 | justine

Serena and Josh wanted to recreate the atmosphere of a cozy Italian family gathering over a delicious meal on their wedding day. So, when planning their Assembly Yard wedding, the couple was very deliberate in making their vision come to life. It was minimalist elegance all the way—with the perfect warehouse venue, a summer sky and citrus color palette, and quirky personal touches.

They kept the decor simple for their outdoor ceremony to highlight the statement round arch and the ground florals at the altar. After their sweet “I dos,” they moved to the indoor space to enjoy a relaxed cocktail party where they munched on pizza, paella, and gelato, and danced the night away with their loved ones.

Everything came together so beautifully, and thankfully, Kelly Mossop was there to capture it all. If relaxed, fun, and elegant sounds like your dream, then this Assembly Yard wedding is the perfect inspiration. Keep scrolling through to know exactly what we’re talking about.

How Their Assembly Yard Wedding Came To Be

We wanted an Italian-style summer dinner party vibe and trusted our vendors with our vision. My family is Southern Italian, and we wanted that to be a part of the day. We wanted a garden feel with some indoor space for our venue and came across Assembly Yard. The manicured gardens, lawn, festoon lighting, and shed were perfect. We shared our mood board with our amazing graphic designer, The Paper Pleaser, who designed our beautiful wedding stationery. Our florist, Scape by S, is absolutely amazing. The color palette we had in mind was fresh and citrusy and boy, did she deliver! Our wedding planner, Infinity Events, styled our furniture, helped coordinate vendors, and organized the whole thing. We wanted a relaxed cocktail-style event and had wood fire pizza, paella, and a gelato cart.

How They Came Up With Their Wedding Budget

When making our budget, we thought about what was most important to us as a couple. Florals, food, and coordination were the most important, so it’s where we were willing to spend more. I was shocked at how much it costs to have a sit-down dinner instead of a cocktail party. We were initially going to do a sit-down, but our vendor canceled, and it didn’t leave us a lot of time to go through the tasting process again. We decided to go for a cocktail party but ensured our guests didn’t leave hungry. Our pizza, paella, and gelato were less than half the price of our sit-down dinner, so it was a no-brainer.

Choosing Elegant Wedding Fashion With An Added Twist

I wore a Karen Willis Holmes bespoke dress. As soon as I saw her designs, I knew I would be wearing KWH. It was amazing because I could choose a top and skirt that suited my body shape and add other design details I wanted. I’m not a glitzy kind of girl and wanted something more structural and simple with an elegant twist. My flower girl dresses inspired me, and I added the bows last minute. I wanted to ensure my hair was off my face and found a Loeffler Randall headband, which was the perfect addition. I also knew I wanted to wear pearls as a nod to my mother, who loves them. My bridesmaids have very different body shapes, so I wanted them to choose styles that completed them while staying with a light blue palette.
