For Jade and Ian, the idea of a traditional wedding never quite fit their vision. “We wanted to elope but knew we’d want our children there,” they shared. “So, we decided to just take our nearest and dearest — both mothers, Ian’s sister, and her husband. We planned a wedding party back home to celebrate with everyone else.”
“Our vibe was ‘go with the flow. We were very flexible and easygoing with our wedding planning. All we wanted was an intimate Venice elopement, surrounded by our closest loved ones.”
Finding the venue turned out to be a serendipitous moment. “We found the Scala Contarini del Bovolo online. Ian had proposed in Venice a year before, and we’d planned to visit the Scala then but ran out of time,” Jade recalled. “When I saw it was available for weddings, there was no second thought. It was the perfect venue for our Venice elopement.”
With the breathtaking canals and bridges of Venice as their backdrop, Jade and Ian trusted Emma Jane Photography to document their special day. “Finding Emma made our experience magical,” Jade said. “She completely understood the assignment, capturing everything from romantic water and bridge shots to fun café moments. Our photos make it look like our Venice elopement spanned multiple days. Just perfect.”
“Emma was more than a photographer; she became a friend for life,” Jade added. “Her professionalism and thoughtfulness allowed us to relax and enjoy our day. We couldn’t have done it without her.”
The day began with an early morning photo session. “Walking through the city hand in hand, with little to no tourists around, felt magical,” they said. “It was just the two of us creating memories with our small family, and we’ll forever be grateful for the experience Emma enabled us to have.”
Jade’s wedding dress by Madi Lane was a vision of timeless beauty. “I had it altered to suit my style, adding straps and an underskirt slit,” she shared. The bridesmaids, including their daughters and Ian’s sister, wore white dresses, while the men’s tuxedos completed the traditional look.
Jade and Ian started with a budget of £15,000 but quickly surpassed it. “Weddings are expensive,” Jade said. “But by reaching out myself instead of using a wedding planner, we saved some money. We splurged on a private terrace for our wedding meal and a 1960s boat for photographs with Emma. Both were worth every penny.”
Planning an intimate Venice elopement in August came with its challenges, including high temperatures and traveling with four children. “There were some tears along the way, but we wouldn’t change a thing,” Jade admitted. “Looking back at the photos Emma captured, we just laugh. Kids will be kids!”
One of the most memorable parts of the day was their coffee break. “The café photos are absolutely gorgeous,” Jade said. “The memory behind them makes them even more special. We were surrounded by people taking photos, trying to keep a straight face, and laughing non-stop. It was such a fun moment.”
Their Italian officiant crafted a deeply personal ceremony. “She contacted us beforehand with a questionnaire that she used to write our love story. It felt so intimate and beautiful.”
A cozy, intimate reception with stunning views of the Venice waters, where the kids excitedly join in the cake cutting, sharing a special moment with the newlyweds. The whole scene feels warm and personal, with everyone enjoying the celebration together.
Reflecting on their planning experience, the couple offered advice for other couples. “Be open to change on the day. We let the day flow naturally instead of sticking to a strict schedule. It made everything feel stress-free and perfectly imperfect.”
Jade and Ian’s intimate Venice elopement was everything they dreamed of and more. “It brought us closer together. We’ll carry these memories with us forever.”
When Irene and Davis decided to have their destination wedding in Oaxaca, they wanted more than a picture-perfect day—they wanted to create a story. Inspired by literature, local traditions, and their shared love for art and architecture, their celebration became a breathtaking blend of culture, creativity, and connection. From a serene museum courtyard ceremony to a reception straight out of a dream, every detail reflected their vision and personality.
For them, Oaxaca wasn’t just a location—it was a feeling. “Our first trip as a couple was to Mexico, and Oaxaca immediately captured our hearts,” they shared. “We wanted our loved ones to experience the warmth and beauty of the place that felt like home to us.”
Planning from afar came with its challenges, but thanks to their planner, Marcela Gonzalez, everything came together seamlessly. Over nine months, Irene and Davis poured their hearts into designing a wedding that was both authentic and unforgettable.
Chucho Potts, their photographer, was captivated from the start. “Every shot felt like art. Irene and Davis put so much of themselves into this day—it was pure inspiration everywhere I turned.”
Irene chose a stunning Schiaparelli draped two-tone bustier gown they spotted together at Bergdorf’s. “We loved the contrast—the ecru satin bustier against the black velvet back,” she said. Her gold Piferi platforms added a bold, sculptural touch.
Davis complemented her look with a sleek Gucci tuxedo and Saint Laurent loafers, and the couple even co-designed a bow for Irene’s hair, inspired by the Korean doturak daenggi tradition. “We threw out all the old wedding rules. We styled each other, shopped together, and had a blast doing it.”
The morning of the wedding was filled with last-minute touches—steaming clothes, revising scripts—but all the stress melted away when they saw each other for the first time. “It was like we could finally breathe.”
Their ceremony took place at Museo Belber, a hidden gem celebrating Oaxaca’s rich craft history. Guests moved through the museum’s tranquil courtyards before arriving at an intimate space where Irene and Davis exchanged vows. Minimalist yet intentional, the setting featured a simple white stage, a stucco backdrop, and delicate calla lilies—a nod to Irene’s childhood in California.
Their mothers officiated the ceremony in vibrant hanboks, while a guitarist and bassist played an acoustic version of the K-pop hit “Eternal Love” for Irene’s entrance—a sweet surprise from Davis. And in a surreal twist, a bee stung Irene’s aunt mid-ceremony. “She stayed so calm—it felt like a whimsical little omen for the day.”
The theme of magical realism wove through every element of their day. “We wanted something familiar but unexpected, strange but serene,” they explained. Inspiration came from Italo Calvino’s Under the Jaguar Sun and Oaxaca’s Noche de Rábanos festival, which celebrates radish carving as an art form.
After the ceremony, guests spilled into the streets for a vibrant calenda—a lively Oaxacan tradition featuring music, dancing, and pure joy. Accompanied by a brass band, they paraded through the cobblestone streets, celebrating with a mix of locals and travelers alike.
In a lucky and unexpected moment, they even joined another wedding’s parade, turning two celebrations into one big, joyful party. “It felt like the whole city was celebrating with us,” Irene and Davis said.
The reception was where their theme of magical realism truly came to life. The setting was a stunning showcase—calla lilies appeared to dance in fountains and peek through playful arrangements of Chinese long beans. Drawing inspiration from a blend of traditions, the decor seamlessly married the intricate food towers of the Korean pyebaek ceremony with the festive spirit of Oaxaca’s Noche de Rábanos.
For the overall design, Irene and Davis collaborated with San Jacinto to create a space that felt ethereal yet intimate. Inspired by Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s iconic wrapped installations, they draped parts of the architecture in soft fabric, adding a layer of tenderness and warmth. “We loved how wrapping the space made it feel more inviting and dreamlike.”
‘
They kept the decor intentional and minimal, allowing the natural beauty of Casa Oaxaca and their guests to take center stage. “The space didn’t need much—it was already stunning. We just wanted to add a little magic and let the love and energy of the night do the rest.”
The couple’s design inspiration was eclectic yet cohesive: Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s ephemeral art, the structured elegance of pyebaek food towers, the quirky creativity of Gohar World, and the structural floral designs of Grace Jolie and Aiku Floral. Each detail reflected their shared love for art, architecture, and storytelling, weaving their personalities into every corner of the celebration.
“Our goal was to create a space that felt dramatic yet tender, a reflection of our relationship and the people we love. The decor was just the backdrop; the real beauty came from the joy and warmth everyone brought to the evening.”
For dinner, Chef Ruiz of Casa Oaxaca crafted dishes that celebrated Oaxacan flavors. “Our first date included pork and octopus,” Irene shared. “Davis broke his vegetarianism for me that day, so it felt poetic to share those dishes with everyone.”
Irene changed into a chic asymmetrical ruffle-trim gown, perfectly blending elegance and playfulness. With the formalities behind them, the energy shifted as guests hit the dance floor, swept up in laughter, music, and pure joy. Under the glow of party lights and the magic of the Oaxacan night, the celebration became an unforgettable party where everyone let loose.
For couples dreaming of a destination wedding, Irene and Davis had this to say: “Respect the land, its people, and its culture. Oaxaca is changing quickly, and we wanted to honor its history while celebrating our own.”
From the heartfelt ceremony to the playful, artful reception, their wedding wasn’t just an event—it was an experience. Irene and Davis brought their story to life in a way that honored the past, celebrated the present, and inspired everyone lucky enough to be a part of it.
Grace and Nghia’s Alaskan elopement was a perfect fusion of Western traditions and Vietnamese heritage, making it both breathtakingly epic and deeply personal. Their journey began on Tinder, where Nghia’s persistence paid off despite Grace studying for finals. After a week of him asking her out, they met up for their first date, which included all-you-can-eat shabu-shabu, hours of conversation, and intense rounds of Uno. They now recreate that first date every year on their anniversary.
For their big day, the couple envisioned a day that was both grand and intimate, reflecting the awe-inspiring vastness of their love while staying true to who they are. “We wanted our elopement to be epic but also intimate and personal to who we are!” they shared. “It was important that we were able to capture how awe-inspiring and vast our love feels during our special day. We also wanted to be able to be present for ourselves and each other as we read our vows.”
“We knew we wanted to be immersed in nature,” they explained. “After considering the Dolomites in Italy and Banff in Canada, we fell in love with Alaska.” The couple was drawn to the wild landscapes, which felt like the ideal backdrop for their adventurous day. They also connected with Junebug vendor Pala Kovacs, whose authenticity and vibrant personality shone through her work. Pala’s enthusiasm to come to Alaska, coupled with her meticulous planning and collaboration with Josh Vassar and Marathon Helicopters, made their dream elopement a reality.
Their day began with a quiet first look outside their charming A-frame cabin, where they donned Western attire. “The first look outside our cozy cabin was a beautiful start to the day,” they recalled. It was a moment of pure intimacy that set the tone for the adventure ahead.
Grace’s wedding dress was found at a sample sale, she carefully hand-sewed pearls onto her veil and styled her own hair and makeup. “We saved money on the things we could do ourselves and spent where it mattered most.”
After their first look, they made their way into town and stopped at a local ice cream parlor. The cheerful locals offered marriage advice, adding to the fun and spontaneity of the moment. “It was a joyful way to connect with the community and soak in the excitement of the day.” It was the perfect lighthearted pause before continuing their journey.
Next, the couple took a thrilling helicopter ride to a mountaintop, where they changed into traditional Vietnamese Ao Dai outfits for their second first look. The wildflowers and blueberry plants around them provided a striking backdrop. “Red is a traditional wedding color in Vietnam, and we loved how it popped against the natural setting,” they explained. They chose to honor their Vietnamese heritage with custom Ao Dai outfits, generously gifted by a close friend.
After exchanging vows, they took time for portraits amid the mountains, wildflowers, and a setting sun, all captured by Pala Kovacs and videographer Josh Vassar. These portraits were a perfect reflection of the day’s magic and intimacy, preserving the surreal beauty of the landscape and their love.
Despite the stunning surroundings, nature had other plans. A swarm of mosquitoes joined the couple’s mountaintop celebration, especially as Nghia read his vows. “The mosquitoes were feasting on Nghia’s forehead as he read his vows.” Though the pests were uninvited, the couple embraced the moment with humor. “Most of our footage on the mountaintop was us running from the mosquitoes, but it made the moment even more memorable!” they shared.
To cap off their unforgettable day, Grace and Nghia helicoptered to a serene beach for an intimate picnic. Grace had a special surprise in store for Nghia—she played a recording of herself singing their first dance song, infusing the moment with personal significance. “We played Uno and reminisced about some of our favorite memories together.” Surrounded by the calm of the beach and the peace of the moment, the couple savored this precious time together, away from the bustle of everyday life.
Grace and Nghia reflected on the day with deep gratitude for their incredible team. “Having a team we trusted truly made all the difference,” they shared. The collaboration between Pala Kovacs, Josh Vassar, and Marathon Helicopters turned their vision into reality, overcoming any challenges with ease and ensuring their day was as magical as they had imagined.
Looking back, they felt confident that their decision to work with such talented pros was one of the best they made, knowing their dream elopement wouldn’t have been the same without them.

Wedding invitations are your first chance to share the excitement of your big day with your loved ones. They do more than just announce the date and time—they set the tone for your entire celebration! Whether you’re going for something classic, modern, or completely unique, the right wedding invitation wording makes all the difference. This guide walks you through the must-have details and gives you plenty of examples for inspiration.
Wedding Invitation Wording Breakdown
1. The Host
Announcing the host is a longstanding tradition, though it is no longer as strictly observed as it once was.Traditionally, the bride’s parents take center stage here, but these days, anything goes! Whether the couple is hosting, families are teaming up, or you’re honoring loved ones, you’ve got plenty of ways to phrase it. This section should establish who’s bringing everyone together. While it’s still a custom, you don’t see it as much in modern wedding invitations. Many couples are opting to leave out the host altogether or use more laid-back wording instead.
Here are some ideas to inspire your wording:
Traditional Hosting
“Mr. and Mrs. William Carter invite you to celebrate the marriage of their daughter, Sophie Jane, to Ethan James…”
Couple Hosting
“Together with their families, Maya and Ben invite you to share in their joy as they tie the knot…”
Honoring a Deceased Parent
“Lila Grace, daughter of the late Margaret Grace and Mr. Henry Grace, and Ryan Cooper, son of Mr. Samuel Cooper and Mrs. Evelyn Cooper, warmly invite you to join their special day…”
2. Request to Attend
Now it’s time to officially invite your guests to your big day! This part sets the vibe—whether you’re keeping it traditional or going for something more relaxed. Here’s where you let people know you want them there to celebrate with you.
Check out these examples for inspiration:
Classic and Formal:
“The honor of your presence is requested at the marriage of their children…”
Warm and Personal:
“We would love for you to join us as we celebrate our wedding day!”
Modern and Fun:
“Let’s make memories together! Please come and celebrate with us…”
3. Action Line
Here’s where you spell out what you’re inviting your loved ones to share in—whether it’s a grand ceremony or an intimate celebration. Think of this as the spotlight moment of your invitation, setting the stage for what’s to come!
Here are some examples to get you started:
Traditional (Parents Hosting): “At the marriage of their daughter…”
Casual and Couple-Focused: “At the celebration of their union…” “As they say ‘I do!’” “In celebration of their marriage…”
4. Names of the Couple
While it’s pretty straightforward, some traditions and details might make you pause. Who goes first? What about middle names? And how do you handle same-sex couples? Deciding the order and format depends on your preferences and the tone of your celebration. Choose what feels right—after all, it’s your day!
Traditional (Different-Sex Couples):
The bride’s name is typically listed first, followed by the groom’s. For formal invites, the bride’s first and middle names are used, while the groom’s full name, including titles, is listed.
Same-Sex Couples:
There’s no set rule—names can be in alphabetical order, based on personal preference, or simply what looks best with your design.
Casual Weddings:
For a relaxed, laid-back tone, first names alone are perfectly fine.
5. Date and Time
When it comes to adding the date and time, formal weddings usually stick to tradition, while casual celebrations can take a more relaxed approach. Here’s how to get it just right:
Formal Weddings:
The date and time are fully spelled out, adding an elegant touch.
Example: Saturday, the ninth of July, two thousand twenty-four, at five o’clock in the evening
Casual Weddings:
You can keep things simple by using numerals.
Example: July 9, 2024, at 5:00 PM
Some quick tips:
For formal invites, avoid abbreviations and write the year in lowercase (no “and” before the year).
If your ceremony is in the evening (starting at 5:00 PM or later), specify “in the evening.” Afternoon weddings (noon to 4:00 PM) can just use “o’clock” or “in the afternoon.”
6. Location
Where’s the big day happening? The venue details should be clear and easy to follow, setting the scene for your celebration. Here’s how to format it:
Formal Weddings: Include the venue name, city, and state spelled out in full. Skip the street address unless it’s a private home or tricky to find. Example: The Crystal Ballroom The Magnolia Hotel Dallas, Texas
Casual Weddings: You can still keep it simple but feel free to use abbreviations for the state if that suits your vibe. Example: Meadowbrook Hall Portland, OR
Let your guests know what to expect after the ceremony—it’s where the real celebration begins! Here’s how to keep things simple and clear:
Same Location? Just say something like: “Reception to follow” or “Dinner and dancing to follow.”
Different Location? List the reception venue right after the ceremony details or on a separate card: “Reception to follow at The Sunset Pavilion.”
Not Serving a Full Meal? Set the right expectations with phrases like: “Join us for cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and dancing.” or “Cake, punch, and merriment to follow.”
8. Other Considerations
Dress Code Including a dress code is optional, but it can definitely help your guests know what to wear. The one exception? If your wedding is black tie, be sure to call it out on the invite. If you don’t mention a dress code, your guests will usually take their cue from the formality of your invitation. For example, a fancier invite says “formal” while a laid-back design suggests a more casual vibe. The dress code should come after the reception info.
Dress Code Wording Examples:
Black tie: Tuxedos and floor-length gowns
Formal attire: Suits and elegant dresses
Cocktail attire: Suits or dress shirts with ties, cocktail dresses
Feel free to place it in the lower right corner or add a note at the bottom if you prefer:
“Black tie requested”
“Cocktail attire please”
Wedding Website Instead of printing your wedding website directly on the main invitation, it’s best to include it on a separate reception or info card. You could also include your URL (or even a QR code) on your save the date so guests can easily access all the details in one place.
9. RSVP Card
Great news! Wording your RSVP card (also called the reply or response card) is much simpler than crafting the main invitation. Here’s what you’ll need:
RSVP Date: Start with the all-important reply-by date, which should be about three to four weeks before the big day. This gives you time to get a final headcount to your caterer and lock in your seating chart.
Consistency is Key: Keep the tone of the RSVP card in line with the invitation. For formal invitations, use phrasing like “the favor of a reply” (matching “the honor of your presence” from the invite). For something a bit more casual, you can go with “Kindly reply by” or “Kindly respond by.”
Guest(s) Names: Add a line for guests to write their names, along with checkboxes for accepting or declining the invitation. If you want to go formal, you can use the “M” line (for Mr., Mrs., Miss, or Ms.), but for a more laid-back vibe, simply use “Name(s)” instead.
Extras You Can Add:
Meal choices (with checkboxes or icons)
Fun song requests like “We promise to dance if you play _________”
10. Reception Cards
If your ceremony and reception are at the same place, you can keep it simple with “Reception to follow” at the bottom of the invite. But if they’re at different locations, treat the reception as its own event by including a separate reception card with all the venue details.
11. Activity Card
Planning a full wedding weekend? Activity cards are perfect for sharing all the fun happenings. List everything in order, so your guests won’t miss a thing. If your wedding has lots of events or info to share, check out our guide on wedding detail cards for extra help. If you decide not to include an activity card, be sure to share these details on your wedding website.
12. Information Card
An information card is a great way to give your guests any extra details they may need—directions, transportation tips, lodging recommendations, etc. If you’re adding multiple enclosures to your invitation suite, make sure to check out our guide on assembling everything in one smooth package.

Hosting your wedding ceremony and reception in the same room can be a game-changer. Whether it’s for convenience, cost savings, or a creative twist on tradition, this option offers plenty of benefits. Guests have just one place to navigate, your timeline can flow more smoothly, and you might save on decor by repurposing elements. As with any decision, planning is required to ensure a seamless and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
Here’s how to make the most of your shared space while avoiding common pitfalls with expert advice from Junebug vendors who’ve seen it all.
How to Have Your Wedding Ceremony and Reception in the Same Room
Setting The Scene
The design and layout of your venue play a huge role in making a shared space feel intentional. You’ll want a setup that transitions effortlessly from ceremony to reception.
“Hosting both ceremony and reception in the same space can make weddings more cost-effective for couples. It’s also a lot simpler to use the same decor from the ceremony to the reception, which can save money as well,” says Michigan-based photographer Catie Eovaldi.
Consider multipurpose décor like floral arrangements that can move from the aisle to the tables or an arch that doubles as a backdrop for your sweetheart table.
Preparing for the Ceremony
Start by creating a ceremony setup that feels intimate and beautiful, keeping in mind how the space will transform later.
A first look with your partner is highly recommended. According to New Jersey photographers, The Markows, “Definitely plan to do a first look! This way, you can get all of your photos done and enjoy cocktail hour. This gives you the chance to get all the group photos you want and allow your photographer enough time to come up with the unique portrait ideas you deserve.”
This simplifies your timeline and allows you to focus on your guests during cocktail hour while the space is being flipped.
Check out this stunning warehouse wedding to see how they transformed their ceremony setup—featuring acrylic chairs, a petal-lined aisle, and statement florals on geometric gold stands—into a modern, ethereal reception. Transforming for the Reception
Transforming your ceremony into a reception space requires coordination and timing, and having a solid plan is crucial.
“A planner or coordinator is invaluable when you are flipping a space. This is a great moment for a cocktail hour or entertainment for your guests. Think of it as an opportunity to be creative and offer your guests a unique experience!” Milly of The Rose Reflective suggests.
Cocktail hours or designated areas for mingling keep guests entertained and out of the way while vendors handle the transition. Without this, “you run the risk of your guests wandering around the area and potentially getting lost or hanging out in a bar/restaurant and filling up before dinner,” adds Catie.

Timing the Day Right
A streamlined timeline is essential for keeping everything on track. With the proper preparation, you can avoid downtime or rushed transitions.
The Markows emphasize the importance of timing for photos: “Avoid cramming all of your photos into cocktail hour and avoid planning a day where your family and friends can’t enjoy the majority of cocktail hour.”
Schedule portraits to maximize the time between the ceremony and reception, taking advantage of the natural break while guests enjoy drinks and hors d’oeuvres.
Coordinating the Team
Flipping a space takes a team effort, so be sure to communicate with your vendors well in advance. Everyone, from florists to photographers, must know the plan to ensure a smooth transition.
“Have a designated team with a plan in place on how both spaces will be set up. This will ensure a smooth transition on the vendor side,” advises Catie.
This floral-filled celebration showcases the transformation of a raw space into a romantic ceremony with overhead blooms, a floral-lined aisle, and a statement backdrop, then repurposes it for the reception with lush tablescapes and taper candles. Savanna Sturkie perfectly captured every stunning detail for inspiration.
Things to Keep in Mind
While combining your ceremony and reception in the same room has its perks, it’s not without challenges.
“There are stricter time constraints on vendors to create your reception space, so you may be able to do less than if you are hosting your reception in a different space,” notes Milly.
And if a religious ceremony or avoiding a first look is a priority, The Markows suggest reconsidering: “Really, the only disadvantages are if you prefer a religious ceremony at a place of worship or you adamantly are against a first look.”
The experts agree: the key to making it work lies in having a solid plan, an experienced team, and a venue that ticks all the right boxes—one that’s versatile, convenient, and perfect for your vision. Not only will you create a cohesive experience for your guests, but you’ll also enjoy the benefits of simplicity, cost savings, and a day that flows effortlessly. With the right foundation in place, you’ll be well on your way to creating a celebration that’s as stress-free as it is unforgettable.

When unforeseen circumstances meant they had to bring their wedding date forward, Aoife and John made a heartfelt choice: to focus on what truly mattered—love, connection, and the people closest to them.
Aoife and John’s Belfast City Hall wedding was proof that you don’t need a massive budget or an elaborate plan to create a day that’s uniquely yours—a masterclass in doing more with less. Despite working with a modest budget, they brought their vision to life with care and intention.
From Aoife’s statement-making Doc Martens to heartfelt family traditions, every detail of their day was infused with creativity, personal touches, and an effortless city chic vibe. “With careful attention to what we imagined the day and ourselves to look like, we made it work well,” she shares.
Every aspect of their celebration was thoughtfully chosen, resulting in a day full of unforgettable moments. See their love story unfold through the stunning images captured by Junebug vendor Lit Photography.
Personalized touches added even more charm. Aoife gifted John soccer cufflinks, a nod to his love for football, while John surprised her with a special wedding perfume.
Aoife’s parents walked her down the aisle, a poignant moment that underscored the importance of family. During the ceremony, their siblings read poetry, adding an intimate and personal touch to the proceedings. As a final flourish, their mums signed the registry as witnesses—a deeply meaningful way to honor the women who shaped their lives.
One of the most memorable parts of the day was a quiet hour spent wandering through Belfast city center with their photographer, Lauren of Lit Photography. “It was just us, chatting and getting photos taken in the city we fell in love in,” Aoife recalls.
For their portraits, Aoife swapped her wedding heels for a pair of Doc Martens, giving her look an unexpected yet effortlessly cool edge.
“…just enjoy the day, and you’ll get the best photos.”
“There’s a photo of us with a red bus in the background—it captures the day and us perfectly.” Lauren’s advice to “just enjoy the day, and you’ll get the best photos” set the tone for a relaxed and fun shoot.
The decorations were a true labor of love. Aoife, her mum, and her sisters sourced unique pieces from charity shops and set up the reception room themselves the night before the wedding. “It was super fun and a real money-saver,” Aoife says. They also chose dried flowers over fresh, adding timeless beauty while staying on budget.
With less than 20 guests, Aoife and John focused their spending on what mattered most: a stunning venue, incredible food, and a dream photographer. The intimate atmosphere of The Merchant Hotel, with its timeless Victorian and Deco elegance, provided the perfect setting for their celebration.
“We wanted it to be intimate and personal,” Aoife shares. “Our style was city chic and laid back.” Working closely with vendors who shared their values created a stress-free experience that felt authentic and effortless.
“Put love at the center of your day. None of the changes to our plans mattered in the end.”
“We focused on bringing our vision to life with thoughtful details, and it all came together beautifully,” she shares. Aoife’s advice to other couples? “Put love at the center of your day. None of the changes to our plans mattered in the end.”
With love and creativity in every detail, Aoife and John’s Belfast City Hall wedding was a beautiful reminder that sometimes the most meaningful celebrations are the ones where love takes center stage.

It might sound like an unusual mantra for a wedding, but for Alana and Paul, it became an iconic inside joke—so much so that they displayed it proudly on a fluted partition wall at their reception. This playful, cheeky attitude perfectly encapsulates who they are as a couple: fun, down-to-earth, and unapologetically themselves. Their unique Melbourne wedding wasn’t just a celebration of their love—it was a creative expression of their personalities, with pops of color, heartfelt traditions, and unforgettable memories.
Alana’s journey to finding the dress started on a trip to Sydney with her Maid of Honor, Emma. “We went to see the other love of my life, Harry Styles, perform, and while we were there, I tried on some dresses. Of course, the minute I tried on this very dress, I knew it was the one,” Alana recalls. Unbeknownst to her, however, the dress was almost double the cost Paul had forecasted in his budget. “When I realized this, I knew I’d have to do my best negotiation work to lock it in.” Fast forward a couple of months, and Alana pulled it off. “While I would say I did some of my best negotiating at that time, Paul would say I just turned on the waterworks to my advantage,” she laughs.
Curating their wedding vibe was a creative journey led by Alana’s vision. “I told Paul to trust me, and I’m so glad he did!” But while Alana was dreaming up bold ideas, Paul was making sure everything stayed on track with his infamous budget spreadsheet. “Every dollar was accounted for,” Alana laughs. “If there was a cent to be saved, Paul knew exactly where it was!” Paul also played a big part in ensuring they stayed on budget, even giving Alana a pep talk before one of their styling meetings, reminding her that they absolutely can’t exceed their wedding budget. “I may have gotten carried away with some of the ideas, but Paul kept us grounded in the best possible way.”
The moment they stepped into The Trust, the ornate Art Deco details had them hooked. Its timeless beauty meant the venue needed minimal styling, making it the perfect canvas for their bold yet elegant aesthetic. The venue’s rich history allowed them to focus on their creative touches, like the striking color palette they’d chosen—a vibrant mix of ultramarine blue, bright pink, and chrome. This palette, inspired by a set of coasters at Alana’s in-laws’ home, was a bold yet harmonious choice that came to life with the help of The Goodsmiths expertise.
One of Alana’s standout moments was the pre-party before the first look and ceremony—a heartfelt nod to Croatian wedding traditions she had been looking forward to her whole life. Nearly 80 friends and family gathered at her family home to kick off the celebrations with food, dancing, live music, and rakija (a traditional Croatian spirit). For Alana, this wasn’t just a party; it was a cherished family tradition that brought generations together in pure joy and excitement.
“The energy was unmatched,” Alana shares. “Michael Pinjuh’s piano accordion performance and my big entrance were moments I’ll cherish forever. I reckon I could have cried, but I just had so much joy and happiness rushing through my body that I could only smile and laugh.” With everyone singing, dancing, and toasting to the couple, it set the tone for the rest of the day—a warm, love-filled celebration that perfectly reflected Alana’s vibrant personality and deep-rooted connection to her heritage. “It was the best kind of warm-up for the day ahead,” she adds.
The first look was an emotional highlight for the couple, giving them a chance to connect before the ceremony. “We’re so glad we did it,” Alana reflects. “Paul wasn’t thrilled about being the center of attention, so it helped calm our nerves and made the ceremony even more special.”
Their ceremony, officiated by Natalie Drum, was heartfelt and sprinkled with humor. Instead of writing personal vows, they entrusted Natalie to tell their story—and she nailed it. “She captured our relationship so perfectly that nothing else was needed,” Alana says. Two special people served as witnesses during the registry signing, adding a personal and meaningful touch.
Their reception featured the iconic statement “My dress is more important than the styling,” proudly displayed on a fluted partition wall. This lighthearted touch perfectly captured Alana and Paul’s playful, no-fuss attitude toward their unique Melbourne wedding, where the focus was on their wedding day priorities and laughing along the way.
And when it came to the details, Paul’s budget spreadsheet played a starring role. “It was everything,” Alana recalls. “Paul had a spreadsheet for the spreadsheet. He tracked every cent, which made my wild ideas feel like they had a solid foundation!” While Alana’s creative vision took center stage, Paul’s meticulous budget planning ensured that they could pull off a dream wedding without overspending. It was this combination of creativity and precision that made their wedding day feel like a seamless, unforgettable experience.
This vintage wedding cake is a fun and cheeky nod to their personalities, perfectly showing off their down-to-earth vibe and unapologetically unique style as a couple at their unique Melbourne wedding.
In a fun twist, Alana and Paul ditched the traditional first dance and opened the floor with Justin Bieber’s “Beauty and a Beat.” “We just wanted everyone to have fun, be well-fed, and enjoy every detail,” Alana shares. And they did—guests are still raving about the seamless planning and unforgettable atmosphere, thanks to their incredible team of vendors.
For Alana and Paul, their unique Melbourne wedding wasn’t just a party—it was an authentic reflection of their love, their quirks, and the life they’ve built together. “Plan a wedding that speaks to you as a couple,” Alana advises. “Forget trends and outside opinions. This is your day. Don’t sweat the small stuff; nobody cares about cutlery! Focus on what you’ll remember: great food, good music, and moments that feel like you. And negotiate hard for the things that matter—like your dream dress!”
Davis and Michael’s heartfelt Italian destination wedding was a celebration of love, family, and tradition set in the breathtaking Villa Corsini. “We wanted a colorful yet sophisticated garden wedding, and the villa’s views of olive groves and vineyards made it the perfect choice,” the couple shared. Its close proximity to Florence made it even better, giving their guests plenty of nearby accommodation options and a short, scenic ride to the venue on the big day.
The ceremony was the heart of the celebration. “It was incredibly special,” they said. “Having our pastor from home marry us at our destination wedding, surrounded by our closest friends and family who traveled so far to be there, was something we’ll never forget.” With an altar framed by wildflowers and the rolling hills of Chianti in the distance, the couple exchanged vows in an intimate, personal ceremony that felt truly magical.
Working with Junebug vendor Giulia Alessandri, Davis and Michael brought their dream Italian wedding to life. Don’t stop now—see how they made their vision a reality and enjoy every gorgeous detail captured by Lenny Pellico.
The perfect way to kick off the day— the bride sharing a toast with her bridesmaids, champagne in hand, as they get ready together.
Meanwhile, the groom and his groomsmen are celebrating with a fun champagne spray in the picturesque garden, soaking in the joy of the moment.
A truly special moment—the bride’s first look with her father. As she stepped into his sight, their emotional exchange captured the love and pride between them.
The ceremony setup was truly enchanting, with sweeping views providing a breathtaking backdrop. Surrounded by the venue’s natural beauty, the stunning scenery spoke for itself, requiring minimal décor. The altar, framed by ground wildflowers and complemented by ghost chairs, blended flawlessly with the manicured gardens, allowing the landscape to truly take center stage.
Davis designed many of the stationery pieces herself, including the save-the-dates, invitations, programs, and menus, which seamlessly tied into the overall decor.
“Our pastor from Kentucky flew all the way to Florence to marry us, which made the moment even more meaningful,” the couple recalled. To make their heartfelt Italian destination wedding even more special, they invited their immediate families to the altar to share a prayer over their marriage.
After the ceremony, the bride and groom wandered the grounds, taking some time to snap portraits in the gorgeous setting.
The reception continued the garden theme inside the ornate banquet hall, where two long tables were adorned with lush florals and soft candlelight.
“During the dinner, we included a small Limoncello shot at each place setting to embrace Italian culture,” they said. “We also added Louis Sherry chocolates from New York to bring a bit of American charm to our guests since we live in NYC!”
In keeping with Italian tradition, Davis and Michael served a millefoglie wedding cake—and even decorated it themselves! This personal, hands-on touch brought a playful vibe to their reception and made it feel even more special.
Fireworks lit up the sky, setting the stage for an unforgettable Italian destination wedding as guests gathered to dance, celebrate, and enjoy the night.
Looking back, Davis and Michael’s advice for couples planning their own destination weddings? “Planning from abroad can be a challenge, but with the right planner, it’s absolutely worth it,” they shared. “Our day was a dream come true, and we couldn’t have done it without Giulia Alessandri and our amazing vendors.”
