Cozy “Boland Banquet” Diamant Estate Wedding

September 3, 2024 | justine

For Lara and Rohan, “When you know, you know” perfectly describes their Diamant Estate wedding. The moment they first saw the venue, they knew it was the right place for their big day. Despite the hall being in disarray from a previous event—red and gold chairs stacked up, scattered leaves, burnt-out candles, and confetti on the floor—they loved its abandoned, vintage charm. This sparked the theme “Boland Banquet,” which they brought to life with a royal color palette, sparkly decor, and vintage touches. Impressively, they DIYed everything themselves!

The ceremony took place in a stunning 1700s wine cellar converted into a chapel. It was beautiful on its own, with just a unique floral installation at the altar and petals along the aisle. For the reception, two long tables were decorated with gold accents, perfectly complementing the Cape Dutch-style interior. A unique touch was the couple blowing out candles instead of cutting a cake to mark the “birthday of their marriage.” For a fun midnight snack, McDonald’s Happy Meals were served on silver platters, with the toys used as decor.

If you want ideas on adding your personal touch to every part of your celebration for a unique theme, check out this wedding. The beautiful photos by Basque Imagery perfectly show their love story and the special day they designed.

Discovering the Boland Banquet Theme for Their Diamant Estate Wedding

The look came together when we first viewed the venue. After a wedding the night before, the staff were busy clearing everything. As we entered the hall, we saw red and gold movie-theater-like chairs stacked on top of each other (these chairs actually come with cream covers, so this was their bare form), a few fallen leaves, burnt-out candles, and scattered confetti on the floor. It looked like an abandoned show, and I loved it—lived-in, homely, a little vintage, and almost royal. That’s when the theme “Boland Banquet” was born. Paarl is located in Boland, and the “banquet” perfectly captured the elaborate feast we wanted for our wedding.

Childhood Tunes and a Magical Tango Moment During the Ceremony

When I walked into the ceremony, our live pianist played the wedding march on Rohan’s grandmother’s organ, wearing bright red shoes! We transported this special organ all the way to Diamant (it was quite a mission) because it was so sentimental. The musicians played soundtracks from our favorite childhood movies while the guests entered the chapel. The most unforgettable moment came when the musicians unexpectedly started playing the chorus of my favorite piece, “The Scent of a Woman Tango” by Itzhak Perlman, right after our kiss. It was one of the most profound moments of my life.

Celebrating Love, Not Putting on a Show

Remember, there’s no set recipe for this. It’s not a show; you don’t need to impress your guests or make the day run like a production. It’s a celebration of your love and your new life together. Just embrace it and go with the flow. Your guests are there because they love you, so don’t pressure yourself to create a picture-perfect event. Simply enjoy the best day of your life.

How Their Village Made Their Diamant Estate Wedding Extra Special

We DIYed EVERYTHING. We foraged, painted, glued, stitched, polished, tied, cut, pasted, and baked. To name a few: I made all the stationery, our family foraged the golden flowers, my mom baked the cake, our grandmothers sewed the napkins, and we crafted the boutonnieres from old fabric we found at home. Knowing the story behind every decor item and detail made the wedding even more special since we did it all ourselves. It was woven together by hands that I know and love. It truly takes a village, and I have one magnificent village.

Blowing Out Candles and Reliving Happy Meal Nostalgia

Instead of cutting a cake, we blew out candles to celebrate the “birthday” of our marriage! For our midnight snack, we had classic McDonald’s Happy Meals. Rohan and I served them on silver platters, using all our old McDonald’s toys from when we were kids as “decor” (yes, our moms saved them!).

Maximalist Tropical Disco Millwick Wedding

September 1, 2024 | justine

Sarah and Gian’s wedding was a celebration like no other. With a “go big or go home” attitude, the bride, who loves maximalist design, wanted the decor to be bright and eye-catching. Instead of a traditional wedding, they envisioned a day that felt more like a big, fun party. Their “tropical disco” theme became a stunning reality at their disco Millwick wedding, featuring a bold color palette, tropical touches, and sparkles everywhere!

Blending organic and industrial elements, the couple chose the perfect venue to bring their theme to life. Their outdoor ceremony set a fun and lively tone with a unique altar—a round arch adorned with silver streamers and vibrant flowers. For the reception, they went all out, featuring tables with bold, colorful arrangements and plenty of disco installations to signal the party was just getting started.

When you think mixing two completely different styles won’t work, this celebration proves otherwise. If you’re searching for ideas to add fun and personal touches to your own event, look no further! Every detail of their special day was masterfully executed, and The Shalom Initiative captured it all in stunning detail.

The Inspiration Behind This Maximalist Tropical Disco Millwick Wedding

When we first talked to our wedding planner, “tropical disco” was one of my original descriptors for our wedding vision. I also love maximalist design, so I wanted the decor to be really bright and in-your-face. We also wanted the whole day to be more like a big party than a traditional wedding, which drove many bold color choices and sparkly accents.

This Blanc Wedding Was Complete With a Trip to a Dive Bar, Homemade Wedding Cake, & Floral Wedding Dress

August 30, 2024 | justine

When Lindsey and Caleb started planning their wedding, they wanted it to reflect their personalities and passions. They aimed for a vibe that mixed fun with timeless elegance, capturing the shift from summer to fall. The outcome was a Blanc wedding that perfectly celebrated their love and all that is special to them.

They kicked off their wedding day with things they love—Caleb went biking at North Table, and Lindsey had a cozy brunch with the women in her family. To fully enjoy the moment, they took a nostalgic stroll to their favorite bar, where they could just relax. They chose a former machinery factory for their wedding venue and transformed it into a stunning setting. Their outdoor ceremony featured a romantic petal-lined aisle leading to an altar flanked by lush floral pillars, while the reception gallery inside was adorned with rich, colorful arrangements that perfectly complemented the industrial space.

If you’re curious about how to bring your own style and interests into every part of your celebration for a unified and stylish look, you need to check out this wedding. The stunning photos by Junebug vendor Kate Merrill perfectly capture the heart of their love story and the beautiful day they created.

How They Merged Fun and Classic Styles To Create a Blanc Wedding Vibe That Reflected Them

Our vibe reflected who we are: fun, grateful, and classic. We combined a playful yet timeless style with the seasonal shift from summer to fall. Once we decided on this theme, we chose vendors who understood our vision. To stay within budget, we focused on key elements: flowers for me, a DJ for him, and a well-stocked bar for my parents.

A Day Filled with Personal Touches and Cherished Moments

We started our wedding day with activities we love—he biked at North Table, and I enjoyed brunch with the women in my family. Getting ready with my bridesmaids and family was extra special, especially since a friend did my hair and makeup. We took a nostalgic stroll to Don’s, our favorite bar, to relax and soak in the moment. Our friend officiated the ceremony, weaving in stories we shared about ourselves and from our friends. Instead of traditional vows, we made toasts over a table set with family china. Our first dance was a highlight, thanks to the dance lessons we took beforehand. A friend baked our delicious wedding cake, and I surprised my husband with a special song. We wrapped up the night dancing with friends and family, finishing with an energetic last song and a jump around before heading to Improper City for a final, relaxed evening.

Balancing Advice and Personal Happiness in Wedding Planning

Hire a planner, even if it’s just for part of the process. Choose vendors you like, and try not to stress too much. Focus on what matters to you as a couple rather than what others expect. Listen to advice from others, but prioritize your own happiness. While it’s important to consider others’ opinions, make decisions that best sustain your happiness and well-being, and stay true to those choices.

Celebrating Their Love and Commitment Beyond the Wedding

We’re most proud of having each other for life, which would have been true no matter the wedding, but the celebration definitely added a special touch to our love and commitment. Beyond that, flowers were incredibly important to me, and RLYRLY Studio created arrangements that exceeded my wildest dreams. We’re also proud of how great we looked on our big day.

DIY Wedding Details: From Paper Goods to Personal Touches

We handled all the paper goods ourselves, including save-the-dates, invitations, signage, coozie designs, and table numbers. A friend baked our cake, while another friend crafted framed pressed flowers for the seating chart.

Unexpected Wedding Expenses to Keep in Mind When Creating Your Budget

August 30, 2024 | riley

Keep reading to uncover unexpected expenses and ensure you’re fully prepared! Image by Josie Brooks.

When setting your wedding budget, there are so many details to juggle that it’s easy for unexpected wedding expenses to slip through the cracks. Even with the best wedding budget tool, it’s hard to account for every little thing, especially things that don’t go as planned or that you assume someone else will pay for. So, before finalizing your budget, be sure to review these 17 unexpected expenses to make sure you’ve got everything covered.

Unexpected Wedding Expenses

1. Postage Wedding Budget

When planning your invitation budget, don’t forget to account for the stamps you’ll need to mail them all. That includes the stamp for the actual invitation, the stamp on the RSVP envelope–if you’re not doing RSVPs through your wedding website–and your thank you notes.

If you’re using thick or uniquely shaped paper, wraps, or other add-ons that will add weight or bulk to your invitations, be sure to check with the post office to find out if you need extra postage.

2. Day-Of Stationery

You’ve likely already accounted for your invitations, save the dates, and thank you cards, but have you thought about the paper good you’ll need for the actual wedding day? Ceremony programs, menus, table numbers, framed signs, and escort cards should all be built into your stationery budget.

3. Marriage License

This is the most important item on the do-not-forget list, but many couples tend to forget they need to pay for their marriage license. The price ranges from $25 – $100, depending on your state, so be sure to check your state’s website for the exact fee.

4. Alterations

One of the biggest mistakes brides make is spending their entire fashion budget on the dress. Since it’s one of the most important items of clothing you’ll ever wear, you want to make sure that it fits you perfectly. Build enough money into your budget for alterations, which can run anywhere from $100 to $800, depending on how much customization you are doing.

5. Undergarments And Accessories

As with alterations, undergarments and accessories are an important part of rounding out your bridal look and should be built into your fashion budget. Think lingerie, garter, veil, jewelry, clutch, shoes, hairpieces, and a getting-ready robe.

6. Bachelor Or Bachelorette Parties

Although most people assume that the wedding party pays for the bachelorette/bachelor parties, the truth is that many couples do end up pitching in to alleviate the burden–especially for weekend-long festivities. If you plan to pitch in for your party, don’t feel like you need to pay most of your way. These parties are meant to celebrate you, so your wedding party should spoil you just a bit.

7. Taxes, Service Fees, and Tips

Taxes and service fees take us by surprise every time and, when making such large purchases, they add up quicker than you can imagine. Vendors will charge different fees for different services, so be sure to read your contract carefully before committing.

Also, keep in mind that service fees and tips are different! The service fee is the cost of executing a particular service, and most vendors expect a tip on top of that fee. The general tipping guideline for wedding vendors is between 15-20%, so make sure to build that into each vendors’ total cost. You can read more about gratuities in our guide to tipping your wedding vendors!

8. Overtime

Despite all your best attempts to make sure everything is wrapped up and cleaned up before your allotted time ends, you should have a small reserve of money set aside just in case. Look over your contract to see how much your venue and vendors will charge should you go over. If you absolutely can’t afford any extra time, plan your hard cut-off time to start clean-up even earlier.

9. Sound And Lighting

These might be the last two things on your list of ceremony and reception costs, but they’re also the two of the most important. When hiring a DJ, be sure to ask if sound setup and additional lighting is needed/included in the total price.

If you’re having live music at your ceremony, you’ll definitely need to amplify them so all your guests can hear. Whether you’re having an indoor or outdoor wedding, you’ll also need to be sure everyone can hear the music, the vows, and the readings, so you’ll need to invest in some sound equipment regardless.

As for lighting, be sure to check out our ultimate guide to wedding lighting, which lays out everything you need to know to make sure your event is lit properly.

10. Welcome Bag Delivery

This is one even we were surprised to find out. Some hotels will charge you to deliver those cute little welcome bags to your guests’ rooms. The average fee is $7, which can quickly add up if you have lots of out-of-town wedding guests. To avoid this fee, simply ask your hotel to give each guest a bag when they check-in instead of delivering it to their room.

11. Insurance

While not always necessary, having insurance for your wedding can save you from a headache down the road. Wedding insurance can help protect you if things go wrong, like vendor cancellations or unexpected weather. Additionally, ring insurance is a good idea to cover the cost of lost, stolen, or damaged wedding rings.

12. Vendor Trials

Want to make sure your hairstylist or makeup artist is a perfect fit? Trials are a great way to test things out before the big day, but they usually come with a price tag. Be sure to budget for them so you’re not caught off guard.

13. Vendor Travel and Delivery Fees

If you’re hiring vendors from out of town, there could be additional charges for travel, delivery, and setup. Whether it’s a photographer or your florist, make sure to clarify these costs upfront to avoid surprises later.

14. Wedding Transportation

From limos to shuttle buses for your guests, wedding transportation can add up quickly. These costs are often overlooked, so be sure to factor them in to keep your wedding day running smoothly.

15. Vendor Meals

Your vendors will be working hard all day, and many will require meals during the event. Some venues include this in their packages, but others don’t, so check ahead to avoid unexpected charges.

16. Thank You Gifts

Thank you gifts are a small but thoughtful way to show appreciation to your bridal party and family members. While they don’t have to be extravagant, this extra expense can add up, especially if you give gifts to a large group.

17. Post-Wedding Expenses

The wedding might be over, but there are still a few lingering costs. From changing your name on legal documents to cleaning your wedding dress, post-wedding expenses often pop up when you least expect them. Make sure you set aside a little extra to cover these final tasks!

Now that you know the unexpected wedding expenses that can pop up, be sure to add the ones that apply to your budget. If you’re worried about the costs adding up, don’t worry—there are plenty of ways to save as you plan your big day. Keep these in mind, and you’ll be able to stay on top of your spending while planning the wedding of your dreams!

Wedding Registry Ideas When You Have Everything

August 28, 2024 | kailey
Wedding Registry Ideas When You Have Everything

Creating your wedding registry is one of the most enjoyable parts of the planning process. It’s your opportunity to provide guests with a list of gift ideas that you can easily share on your invitations or wedding website. Traditional wedding registries often include home goods like pots, pans, cutlery, and appliances. However, if you and your partner have been living together for a while, you might already have all the essentials. If that’s the case, your wedding registry might look a little different.

To help spark some inspiration, we’ve got you covered. Here are some creative wedding registry ideas when you have everything you need for your home.

Honeymoon Fund

A honeymoon fund is one of the most popular alternatives to a traditional registry. With wedding expenses adding up quickly, planning a honeymoon right after the big day might be stretching your budget. If you already have everything you need, consider asking guests to contribute to your honeymoon fund. This can help cover transportation, accommodations, or even special experiences during your trip.

Date Night Experiences

If you and your partner value experiences over physical items, consider creating a registry filled with local activities. Think cooking classes, wine tastings, or spa days. These experiences will make for memorable date nights and give you fun things to enjoy together after the big day.

Home Improvement or Renovation Fund

If your cabinets are already stocked with all the essentials, but you’re looking to tackle some home improvements, consider adding those to your registry. You can ask for contributions toward specific projects or even include the necessary tools and materials. Planning to DIY new flooring? Add the desired flooring to your list. Want to re-tile your bathroom? Include the tiles you’ve been eyeing. There are countless ways to make your registry work for your home improvement goals.

Subscription Services

Subscription services are one of the most underrated registry items. Today, many couples have multiple subscriptions like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and much more—so why not add them to your registry? You can request gift cards for popular streaming services or your favorite magazines. You can also include subscription boxes like meal kits or wine clubs as well. These are creative registry items that’ll keep giving past your wedding day.

Entertainment and Event Tickets

If you already have all the home essentials and you’re the type of couple that values experiences, consider asking for tickets for events in your area. If you’re both big football fans, include tickets to see your favorite team on your registry. If you’re both music lovers, add your favorite bands that have just announced concerts in your area. No matter your interests, the gift of experience is truly unbeatable.

Smart Home Gadgets

While pots, pans, cutlery, and luggage sets are common registry items, they aren’t the only options. For tech-savvy couples, consider adding smart home gadgets to your list. You can request smart speakers to place throughout your home or add smart thermostats like the Nest or Ecobee. Other options include smart security cameras, lighting, robotic vacuums, and so much more.

Even if your home already has the basics, why not upgrade with tech gear to transform it into the ultimate smart home oasis?

Charity Donations

If you’re not looking for anything material on your big day and already have everything you need, consider using your wedding as an opportunity to give back. Instead of creating a traditional registry, ask your guests to make a donation to a charity of your choice. This is a beautiful way to make a meaningful impact and celebrate your special day with a purpose.

Unique Ideas That Aren’t Traditional Homeware

Create Your Dream Bar Cart

Organize the Essentials You Already Have

Revamp Your Outdoor Patio

Now that you’re equipped with some alternative registry ideas beyond the usual home essentials, it’s time to grab your computer and start setting up your wedding registry. But before diving in, explore these online stores that’ll help kick off your shopping experience. With these creative ideas and stores handy, you’ll be able to create a registry full of things you actually want and need.

This Hotel Xcaret Wedding Was as Chic as It Was Romantic

August 27, 2024 | justine

Alisha and Haley chose a destination wedding because most of their friends and family live out of state. Mexico was the first international place they visited together, so it felt special to go back. They wanted their guests to have an unforgettable time. Inspired by the stunning tropical scenery, their Hotel Xcaret wedding allowed everyone to enjoy a lovely vacation while celebrating their big day.

On a sandy spot by the inlet, the couple exchanged vows beneath an altar framed by bold floral pillars. The magic continued at their beach cave reception, where they dined on tables filled with lush arrangements and candles and danced the night away, surrounded by striking rock formations and under a canopy of stars. Oh, and did we mention that all of this took place on the same day as a solar eclipse? If that’s not good luck, we don’t know what is!

Their special day was truly a wedding like no other. Just take a look at these stunning images captured by Junebug vendor Arte Visual MF, and you’ll see why we guarantee you’ll agree.

The Value of Professional Help in Destination Wedding Planning

If you also have a scenario where many of your guests live scattered across the country, a destination wedding is a great solution. When guests have to travel to attend your wedding, picking a fun location makes it more enjoyable for everyone. Plus, choosing a destination wedding means you typically get to spend multiple days with your guests. For anyone having a destination wedding, we advise working with a travel agent who specializes in wedding groups. Our travel agent was beneficial in securing our wedding contract and hotel room block and working with all our guests to plan their travel. You have so much to think about when planning a destination wedding, and having a great travel agent alleviates so much stress. One regret we have from the wedding is not hiring a wedding planner or at least a day-of coordinator. We had the help of our friends and designated support staff from the resort. We love hosting events as a couple, but even if you are “Type A” and think you can handle it all to save money as we did, we’d still say, “Hire someone!” Our day would have been more seamless and stress-free had we had an extra person to oversee all the details.

Crafting a Unique Hotel Xcaret Wedding by Combining Deep Jewel Tones and Tropical Touches

We first chose our wedding venue, Hotel Xcaret Mexico, and built our wedding style around it. We wanted the design to draw inspiration from the beautiful tropical landscape while reflecting our desire for a romantic, chic, and moody atmosphere representing us as a couple. We aimed for the day to feel stylish and special, unlike any other. We settled on deep jewel tones for our décor and floral arrangements, incorporating tropical touches like palm leaves and seashells. Additionally, a solar eclipse occurred on our wedding day, adding a unique and exciting energy to the celebration.

Creating a Cohesive and Complementary Look By Going Wedding Dress Shopping Together

As a two-woman couple, we had to ensure that our wedding day looks were cohesive and complementary. In an unconventional twist, we went wedding dress shopping together. At our very first bridal shop, Haley found a slim-fitting dress adorned with feminine lace and beading, while I discovered a minimal and chic dress that perfectly matched her style. Our accessories completed our looks: Haley handcrafted tropical-inspired earrings, and I chose a unique floral cape, custom-made from an Etsy shop, instead of a veil. Additional special touches included a vintage robe from a local Tucson flea market, which Alisha wore while getting ready, and Haley’s perfume named “Tucson” by Astier de Villatte, adding a touch of home.

Honoring African American Traditions and Family During Their Ceremony

One of our favorite ways to personalize our ceremony was by involving our family members in special roles. Haley’s grandmother served as our flower girl, while her 13-year-old brother acted as our ring bearer and “bubble boy,” delighting the crowd with a bubble gun during the recessional. From our hiding spot before walking down the aisle, we could hear the cheers and laughter as Nana tossed rose petals. We also had each of our siblings perform a reading during the ceremony, including Maya Angelou’s poem “Touched by an Angel.” To make the ceremony even more personal, we flew our pastor from Tucson to officiate, featured a live harpist on the beach, had our photographers capture a group photo with all our guests immediately after the ceremony, and honored the African American tradition of jumping the broom.

Making Their Hotel Xcaret Wedding Truly Authentic with a Choreographed First Dance and Heartfelt Toasts

Our wedding felt like an authentic expression of us as a couple. The small details made all the difference. We are proud of how we pulled off our choreographed first dance. When Beyonce’s new album, Cowboy Carter, was released just a week before our wedding, we decided to change our first dance song to “II Most Wanted” because it resonated with us deeply as a same-sex couple. Three days before our wedding, we started choreographing a dance to the song and pulled off the performance on our wedding day. All of our siblings in attendance gave toasts during dinner—Haley’s three brothers and Alisha’s sister and brother. There was laughter at inside jokes, tears at heartfelt words, and so much love in the room.

Managing Stress and Distractions by Staying Focused on What Matters Most

As a same-sex couple, we faced challenges throughout our relationship, and we wanted our wedding to celebrate the joy and beauty of our love. From the supportive guests we invited to the meaningful readings in our ceremony, we carefully designed a genuinely celebratory day. We focused on keeping the main thing: our marriage and being present with each other. This required intentional choices and preparation, especially since a destination wedding can bring many distractions. By centering on the day’s purpose, we made planning decisions that helped us manage stress and stay focused on what mattered. We were determined not to let anything pull us away from the essence of why we were there.

Staying Under Budget by Making Smart Financial Choices

Our budget was $40,000, which included travel and a resort stay for us and our officiant. We splurged on our photography and videography. The wedding day goes by so fast. We wanted to capture all the memories to look back on and to see parts of the day we might have missed. We initially didn’t have videography in our budget but decided to add it a couple of months before the wedding because we heard it’s a top regret of many couples. We are so glad we did. One trick that helped us stay under budget was opening a travel credit card before we started wedding planning. We put all of our big purchases on the card and were able to use travel points to purchase our flights to Mexico, as well as the flight for our officiant. We also saved by making digital invitations, designing our signage and paper goods, having family and friends do our hair and makeup, and not having an official bridal party.

Enhancing the Experience with Resort Activities and Excursions for Guests at Their Hotel Xcaret Wedding

We are proud of creating a fantastic travel experience for our guests. We picked a beautiful all-inclusive resort, designed a complete travel guide that was sent to guests before arrival, passed out welcome bags with travel necessities, and planned fun events for everyone to enjoy (like a group excursion to Xplor Park for ziplining, a welcome cocktail party the night before the wedding, and a “Newlywed Fiesta” at Xoximilco the night after the wedding). Our guests enjoyed a wonderful vacation while attending our wedding and creating lasting memories with us. Many even joked that we should plan a trip to all return to the resort together in a year for our first anniversary.

Easy-to-Transport Handcrafted Favors and Accessories

We DIYed wedding elements that were easy to take with us on the airplane. Haley designed all of our paper goods on Canva, including our dinner menu, bar and guest book signage, wedding weekend itinerary, and a wedding day newspaper. We also had a friend calligraph our guests’ names on natural capiz shells for our seating chart and name tags, adding a tropical touch to our decor. Haley, who loves making jewelry as a hobby, spent the weeks leading up to the wedding handcrafting bracelets as gifts for each guest’s welcome bag. She also created her wedding earrings.

Our wedding was romantic, personal, and Texas chic. Jack and I love exploring Texas Hill Country, Wimberley, TX, and Collective Retreats. Hill Country perfectly captured our favorite activities and the region’s charm. For our destination wedding, we showcased local wildflowers, served locally sourced produce and game, and included personal touches like my grandmother’s Texas sheet cake, a yoga class led by Jack’s favorite teacher, and a Chuppa built by Jack and his grandfather. Instead of a traditional wedding cake, we enjoyed strawberry shortcake from a local bakery.

Giving Their Guests a Thoughtful Welcome with Goody Bags and Personal Letters

Each of our guests was greeted with a welcome goody bag that included Texas snacks, water, electrolytes, Advil, and bug spray. We also handwrote a letter to each guest. Our family and friends have shared many of life’s monumental moments with Jack and me, and we wanted to show our appreciation for their presence during our wedding weekend.

Adding a Personal Touch Through a Special DIY Project

Jack and his grandfather crafted the Chuppa we stood under during the ceremony, symbolizing our first home together. This personal touch added deep significance to the moment. Additionally, Jack and I wrote our vows, which allowed us to express our feelings and commitments meaningfully and uniquely.

Cherished Moments from Their Collective Retreat at Montesino Ranch Wedding Reception’s Lively Atmosphere

The most memorable part of the wedding day was the dinner and reception. Jack and I loved the moment we walked into the main tent and greeted all our guests. The atmosphere was lively, connected, and warm. We had a great time sharing a meal with our favorite people and ending the night with lots of dancing.

The Importance of Personal Connection and Choosing Vendors That Align with Your Vision

Before planning, sit down with your partner and decide how you want to feel on your wedding day. Think about the emotions you want to experience, who you want to share the day with, and the atmosphere. Once you’ve set your intentions, make sure every decision aligns with them. I’m most proud of how our wedding weekend truly represented Jack and me. We gathered our closest loved ones in a setting where we felt most at ease. Choosing vendors who matched our vision was crucial. For our small, intimate wedding, we focused on selecting vendors with excellent businesses and warm, engaging personalities, as their energy would enhance the experience for everyone.

Bringing Their Favorite Vacation Vibe to Their Collective Retreat at Montesino Ranch Wedding

Our choice of wedding venue was inspired by one of our favorite vacations to Zion National Park. We stayed at an upscale glamping retreat in Virgin, UT, where we enjoyed the stunning surroundings while being comfortable in a beautifully curated space. We wanted to bring those feelings to our wedding weekend, so we chose Collective Retreats—Hill Country for our glamping-style celebration.

Creating Their Own Wedding Style with Comfy Outfits and Unique Personalized Details

It was important to Jack and me that we stayed true to ourselves on our wedding day. We chose simple, comfortable outfits that reflected our style. I wore a minimal dress from Reformation, while Jack selected a natural-colored suit from Jos A. Bank. To add a personal touch, I styled my dress with a western hat and veil inspired by the classic movie scene from The Parent Trap. My veil and hat were a bit DIY; I couldn’t find what I wanted online, so I bought some tulle from Joann Fabrics and took it to Goorin Bros on South Congress in Austin, TX, where hat maker Angie worked her magic.

What to Do With Your Wedding Photos After The Big Day

August 21, 2024 | kailey

Image by Taylor Denton. Flowers by Flowers by Almanac.

When the wedding day has come and gone, the festivities don’t have to end. You still have exciting things to look forward to: the honeymoon and receiving your wedding photos from your photographer—one of the most eagerly anticipated parts of the post-wedding process. While this is an exciting moment, many couples wonder what to do with their wedding photos after the big day.

If you’re in this situation, here are a few creative ideas to help you cherish and share the beautiful memories from your wedding day for years to come.

1. Download and Backup your Gallery

With the overwhelming excitement of receiving your wedding gallery, you’ll be eager to share your photos with everyone right away. However, there’s one crucial task you need to complete first: backing up your photos. Many couples forget this step and leave their photos in their online gallery. To ensure the safety of your images for years to come, take the time to download them. This will protect your precious memories from potential data loss.

2. Share them on Social Media

The wedding day has come and gone. While you’ve inevitably shared some candid iPhone photos taken by guests, it’s officially time to receive that curated gallery from your hired photographer. After scrolling through the gallery with your partner, amidst all the excitement, it’s time to share them on social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, or Pinterest. This is a great way to share your joy with friends and family who couldn’t attend the event.

3. Make Thank You Cards

Now that the celebration is over, it’s time to think about sending out thank you cards. You’ll likely draft up a design online, and when you do, consider incorporating your wedding photos into your cards. Personalized cards featuring a beautiful picture from your wedding will add a special touch to your gratitude.

While thanking your loved ones for their presence (and presents) should be simple, we understand how overwhelming it can feel. If you need help crafting the perfect sweet and sentimental message for your guests, check out our guide for what to write in wedding thank you cards

4. Share the Gallery With Loved Ones (if you want)

When you share your professional wedding photos on social media, your loved ones are bound to get excited. They’ll likely want to see and download some of those special photos, too. When it comes to sharing your wedding photographs, you have a few options. While you can send the full gallery to loved ones, you don’t have to. There are so many special moments that make up a wedding day—some being incredibly personal.

So, if you don’t want to mass-send out the official gallery, that’s okay. Instead, you can create a custom link with just the photos you feel comfortable sharing. Set up a digital gallery of your own for friends and family so they can view and download their favorite images.

5. Create Your Wedding Album

Your wedding goes by in the blink of an eye, and you’ll want to relive those moments over and over. Luckily, you can do just that by flipping through a stunning album filled with your beautiful wedding photos. Wedding albums are one of the greatest keepsakes from your big day. So, after receiving your photos from your photographer, design a gorgeous wedding album to showcase your favorite photos. This timeless keepsake will let you revisit your special day whenever you like and makes for a beautiful coffee table book.

6. Order Physical Prints

While digital copies are convenient to share, there’s nothing quite like having physical copies of your cherished memories. Choose some of your favorite photos from your gallery and have them printed. These prints are perfect for framing around your home, providing a sweet reminder of the day you said ‘I do’ while adding a personal touch to your living space.

7. Get Creative With Your Photos

The fun doesn’t need to stop after sharing your photos online and creating an album. Now that all the must-dos are out of the way, it’s time to get creative with your wedding photos. Incorporate them into home décor with unique items like custom-made pillows, mugs, and calendars.

Your wedding photos serve as cherished keepsakes you’ll look back on for years to come. That’s why choosing the right photographer is so important. You need someone who makes you comfortable in front of the camera and whom you can trust to capture those sweet, once-in-a-lifetime moments.

With seemingly endless options, it can be tough to find professionals whose style you love and who fit within your budget. To help you get started, check out our vendor directory packed with the best photographers from around the world, making it easier for you to find the perfect match.

The Ultimate Guide to Planning a Bali Wedding

August 20, 2024 | riley

Bali, known as the “Island of the Gods,” is a top destination for couples looking to celebrate their love in a stunning and unique setting. From beautiful beaches to rich cultural traditions and exquisite local cuisine, a Bali wedding offers an unforgettable experience. This comprehensive guide covers everything you need to know about planning a Bali wedding, including traditions, local cuisine, and drinks.

How Much Does a Bali Wedding Cost?

We have some unfortunate news. There is not a singular number that we can give you when it comes to the cost of a Bali wedding. According to Retno of Amora Bali, you can expect to spend anywhere from $1,500 up to $40,000 depending on what it is you’re looking for. Resort, villa, and chapel weddings are typically more expensive, whereas beach weddings and elopements are cheaper. Again, this is entirely dependent on what you envision for your day!

Bali Wedding Venues

Alilu UluwatuWith a contemporary design, incredible villa options for you and your guests, and uninterrupted views thanks to its high location on the planes of Indonesia, Alilu Uluwatu is the definition of luxurious.

Tanah Gajah – Bali’s beaches are unlike anything else, but we know that not everyone is searching for a beach wedding. At Tanah Gajah, you can tie the knot in the outdoor Bale Dedari, a unique gazebo, surrounded by never-ending fields, palm trees, and mountain views. With the capability of holding up to 500 guests, it’s the perfect choice for someone who wants a large celebration.

Tirtha Bridal – Tirtha Bridal is arguably one of the most unique venues, and one look at photos will have you falling in love with the venue’s unique architecture. The all-inclusive resort sprawls on 6,300 square meters and features an iconic chapel, a glass stage overlooking the Indian Ocean, an open terrace, a cliffside garden, and more. Your wedding options are truly limitless.

Banana Lounge Bali – For those looking for a smaller venue option with incredible food, Banana Lounge Bali may be just the right choice. The pool lounge is a short five-minute walk from the beach and offers delicious bites and drinks and villas for your guests to stay on the property.

Samabe Resort – Samabe Resort is a versatile wedding venue choice with multiple unique options for your big day. Host your ceremony in the Pearl Chapel with 180-degree views of the Indian Ocean, or opt for some beach “I do’s” before you celebrate exchanging vows with a reception in a cave. You read that right–a cave.

The Wedding Mood

Review:  “Henny & Jasmin were a dream to work with. They found us the perfect venue and translated our dream into a reality. They made the wedding planning process so simple and seamless – which was especially important to us even though we weren’t based in Bali. Jasmin was so lovely and calm in the face of our indecision (and all our last-minute changes, which they pulled off perfectly). On the day itself, they kept the chaos at bay so that we could focus on enjoying ourselves with our family and friends. One of our guests commented they had to pinch themselves to make sure they weren’t dreaming because the whole wedding was so beautiful!

Balinese Wedding Traditions

Purification Ritual (Melukat) – Before the wedding ceremony, couples often participate in a purification ritual called Melukat. This ritual involves bathing in holy water at a temple or sacred spring to cleanse the body and soul, preparing the couple for a new chapter in their lives.

Balinese Priest (Pemangku) – A Balinese priest, or Pemangku, often officiates the wedding ceremony. The priest performs various rituals and prayers to bless the couple. This is typically done in a Hindu religious ceremony, so whether or not this is something you’d like for your wedding is entirely depending on the kind of wedding you hope to host.

Communal Feast (Megibung) – Following the ceremony, a communal feast known as Megibung is held. This traditional Balinese feast involves sharing a variety of dishes served on banana leaves. It symbolizes unity, community, and the sharing of happiness among family and friends.

Balinese Dance and Music – Incorporating traditional Balinese dance and music into your wedding adds a vibrant and cultural element to the celebration. Performances by local dancers and gamelan musicians can entertain your guests and provide a deeper connection to Balinese heritage.

Legal Requirements

To get legally married in Bali, you need to prepare the following documents:

  • Valid Passports – Original and photocopies of both passports.
  • Birth Certificates – Original and photocopies of both birth certificates.
  • Certificate of No Impediment (CNI) – A document issued by your country’s embassy or consulate in Indonesia stating that there are no legal impediments to your marriage.
  • Passport-Sized Photos – Usually 8 photos of each party (4×6 cm), with a red background.
  • Divorce Decree/Death Certificate – If previously married, provide proof of divorce or death certificate of the former spouse.
  • Religious Documents – Depending on your religion, you may need additional religious documents. For example, Christians will need a letter of no impediment from their church, and Muslims may need a letter from their local mosque.

It’s also important to note that in Indonesia, you must have both a religious and a civil ceremony for the marriage to be legally recognized. If you are visiting Bali for your big day and prefer to not host both, you might want to consider getting legally married at home before your big day. Given the complexities of legal requirements, if you and your partner are hoping to get legally married in Bali, we recommend hiring a wedding planner who can help you sort through these details.
