After spending months, if not years, planning your wedding, it’s heartbreaking to realize just how quickly it’s over. In the blink of an eye, you’re making your grand exit with your new lifelong partner, ready to set off for your honeymoon. That’s one of the many reasons that we recommend hiring a wedding photographer. While the day may be over in a flash, you have the memories forever.

Many couples aren’t sure where to store their wedding photos. While there’s nothing wrong with keeping them on your computer to look at on a rainy day, sometimes you just want to flip through a physical copy of them with a hot cup of coffee or a glass of wine. That’s why we created Junebug Albums–your favorite photos deserve more than a social media share. So if you’re ready to design your dream wedding album, you’re in luck. We’re giving you our best tips and tricks to create the memento of a lifetime.

Tips For Designing Your Dream Wedding Album

Choosing A Cover

Before you get started, you need to think about where you’re going to store your wedding album. For many, they use it as a coffee table book. This way, it acts as a decor piece and a conversation starter when guests are over. If this is something that interests you–or you want to display it somewhere else in your home–consider the primary color palette of your decor.

Ask yourself these questions:

  • Which cover colors match the room’s aesthetic?
  • What’s your favorite fabric: linen, leather, or velvet?
  • If you’re creating the album for your wedding photos, is there a specific color that makes you think of your big day?

Creating Your Cover Text

Once you’ve nailed down the cover color and fabric you love, it’s time to think about what you want the cover text to say. While this may sound like a small detail, there are multiple ways that you can personalize it. From playing with capitalization and symbols (think replacing and with an ampersand or plus sign) to the title itself, there’s a variety of ways you can make it your own.

Picking Your Photos

When you have hundreds of images to choose from, it can be overwhelming to pick album-worthy shots. We suggest selecting anywhere from 15 to 30 images in the beginning. These are the photos that you fell in love with the minute that you laid eyes on them.

From there, focus on detail shots and the timeline of the day. Choose photos highlighting all key parts, such as getting ready, signing your marriage license, your first kiss, cutting the cake, etc. Lastly, then choose portraits with your family and wedding party. When all is said and done, you’ll likely have around 100-150 photos. Of course, the number is entirely up to you. If you’d rather just have portraits of you and your partner, that’s fine too! It’s your wedding album, and you can choose to fill it exactly how you want.

Designing Your Layout

One of the reasons that we love Junebug Albums so much is because after you upload the photos you want to be included, the designer organizes the layout for you. It doesn’t get much simpler than that. However, we understand that you want it to be perfect, so there are a few things to keep in mind when creating the layout:

  • We recommend using 3-5 images per spread. Adding more than five images per spread might make your design look busy and cluttered
  • If it feels too busy or you can’t seem to fit all of your images in the design, don’t be afraid to add additional pages
  • Experiment with different layouts. Just because it’s organized for you doesn’t mean that’s the final layout you have to settle on
  • Mix in up-close photos with faraway photos to add visual interest
  • If you’re looking to set up the album in a storybook-like way, organize your pictures in chronological order

And just like that, you’ve designed you’re ready to design your dream wedding album! To create a wedding souvenir that is surely going to become your new favorite home decor piece, head over to Junebug Albums to get started today!
