This Intimate Lynchburg Wedding Beautifully Honors the Groom’s Indian Culture

April 30, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Jaymi and David’s intimate Lynchburg wedding capture’s David’s Indian culture in the most beautiful way! Because David grew up in India, the couple wanted to incorporate his culture into their of their big day in a big way – and they totally hit it out of the park! Using some household decor, souvenirs from traveling, and a few DIY projects (hello macramé backdrop), the two lovebirds transformed OBIC Ministries into the perfect space to say “I do” and celebrate with their closest family and friends. Alex Mari Photography documented the special day and photographed their couple portraits in such a fun and romantic way.

The Couple:

Jaymi and David

The Wedding:

OBIC Ministries, Lynchburg, Virginia

Alex is not only an amazing photographer but a dear friend of ours as well. She is the most humble photographer I’ve ever met and is so fun to work with! She goes above and beyond to make sure your wedding day is perfect and I highly recommend booking with her! Like the day before the wedding whole we were rehearsing she was sweeping the hay out of our reception pavilion. She not only takes beautiful pictures but she quite literally bends down and serves as well. That is very rare in the photography world.

My husband grew up in India and we both thought it was very important to mix both of our cultures into our wedding. It’s easy to disregard your culture when planning a wedding and we definitely didn’t want to neglect a huge part of who we are in the most important day of our lives. I don’t regret one bit of it at all. In fact the Indian aspect of our wedding was my favorite part because of how rich and colorful the culture is!

Our main colors were burgundy and gold and mixed neutral colors in between. Most Indian weddings have those colors so we decided to base our color theme off of Indian colors.

DIY everything and thrift shop as much as you can! I made my own macrame backdrop, and got my decor from Five Below and antique shops, and used mine and David‘s own house decor from our travels overseas. Seriously, if you have a certain look you want in your decor the best way to save money is DIY and thrift shop. It’s also just fun to spark your creativity and you can end up with something pretty unique if you do it yourself.

We had a very small wedding. There were a total of 50 people who we invited including family, because we really wanted it to be an intimate moment not only between David and I but between our most important people as well. I will never forget how our people traveled from all over the country, and even the world just to see us get married. That alone just showed how closely knit we all were no matter the distance.

Our venue was a little farm in the hills of Virginia called OBIC Ministries. They had never had someone do a wedding there before so they gave us a discount that was in our budget range and it was perfect for DIYing everything!

Event Planning and Floral Design – Jaymi Sanders
Venue – OBIC Ministries

Our warmest wishes to Jaymi and David, and a big thank you to Junebug member Alex Mari Photography for sharing their intimate nuptials with us! Did you love the way Alex captured the couple portraits as much as we did? Well you’re in luck! This Gown Designer and Her Groom Tied the Knot at Casa Privata on the Amalfi Coast

April 6, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Between the olive groves, the lemon-inspired details, and the stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea, this Amalfi Coast wedding at Casa Privata is as dreamy as they come! The ancient fishing village of Praiano is one of the most popular stops on this famous coastline, which should come as no surprise after you see this jaw-dropping shots captured by photographer Karin Lundin. After a secluded ceremony in the groves that looked like it was plucked right out of Mamma Mia, Malin and Ricard joined their guests under a canopy of hanging candles for a night of dancing, spoon games, and live music. The true showstoppers of the day, though, were the stunning appliquéd wedding gown and lavender lace bridesmaids dresses from By Malina, the bride’s personal fashion brand. Every detail of this Casa Privata wedding was infused with the romance and charm of Italy, and we simply can’t get enough!

The Couple:

Malin and Ricard

The Wedding:

Casa Privata, Praiano, Italy

We used to live in Italy when we first got together and got engaged in Puglis, so we were sure we wanted to get married in Italy. We looked at many places but have always loved Amalfi, Praiano, and Positano the most.

The garden ceremony was a true Mamma Mia moment. All our best friends, family, and our kids were gathered under olive threes in front of the Mediterranean Sea. It was such a magic moment for us!

I designed and created my own dress along with my company, By Malina. It took one month so sew all the leaves to the huge skirt. It’s not really me to have such a big dress but, since I’ll only get marry once, I figured why not! All my bridesmaids had lavender lace off-the-shoulder dresses, boho hair, and wreaths with flowers from the garden. It was all was very relaxed and beautiful.

The Wedding Team:

Photography – Karin Lundin
Venue, Event Planning, Floral Design, and Catering – Casa Privata
Live Music – Sean Bradford
Wedding Dress, Bridesmaids’ Apparel, and Stationery – By Malina
Makeup Artist and Hair Styling – Orazio Spisto
Bridal Accessories – Emma Engelbert
Groom’s Apparel – Rose & Born

Our warmest well wishes to the newlyweds, Malin and Ricard, and an extra special thanks to Junebug member Karin Lundin for sharing this beautiful wedding with us! This Eclectic Marfa Wedding Blends The Grooms’ Urban and Country Texas Roots

February 1, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Manny and Colt’s Marfa wedding has many eclectic elements that make for a pretty magical day. We are especially loving Manny and Colt’s bold suits from Paul Smith and Hugo Boss. The rich blue and red colors contrast well to the Marfa desert and bright greenery used in the reception space – it gives for a fun and playful vibe that carries through the day’s celebration. Manny and Colt’s reception had plenty of fun elements from a dessert table full of cakes and sweets made by Dessert Gallery to a Smilebooth with various wigs to accessorize with. Once again, Joseph West Photography killed it in photographing Manny and Colt’s couple portraits with his unique use of light and composition.

The Couple:

Manny and Colt

The Wedding:

Thunderbird Marfa, Marfa, Texas

We are so happy we had Lizzy of Magic Hour Marfa by our side the whole way to make the majority of the process effortless. We couldn’t be more grateful for her help!

Marfa, TX was one of our first vacations together in 2007 and we have been going there multiple times a year and eventually buying a home there. Marfa and the west Texas mountains/desert are a part of us and our soul. Our friend Jacqueline let us host our ceremony on her scenic land right outside of town and our reception was at the Capri which is part of the Thunderbird Hotel and where we first stayed in 2007.

SHOP THIS POST

The most memorable part of the day was driving west on Highway 90 just outside of Marfa for the ceremony arrival and seeing the crowd of people waiting for us in the desert. We had a location about 1/4 mile off the main road where our family and friends were waiting for us and as we approached our mothers met us half way to walk us down the aisle.

The most important thing was bringing our friends and families together to share our favorite place, Marfa, TX and to help us celebrate 11 years of love and companionship.

I (Manuel) am a commercial interior designer and created the vision for the wedding. It was a reflection of our personal styles- approachable and eclectic, with a mix of urban/country vibes that reflect our upbringing. Manuel=urban (Houston) and Colt=country (Stephenville, TX)

We DIY’d a few things! We gathered 1000- 8 day white religious candles to set up at all the tables and sourced tall and simple clear glass hurricanes to place large monstera leaves into. Manuel created the save the date’s and website. We also collected 20+ wigs for the Smilebooth that were the hit of the reception!

There’s a Lot to Love in This Rustic Romantic Summerland Wedding at the Groom’s Family’s Estate

January 14, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

It’s never too early to start dreaming of backyard weddings and spring color palettes, so Lauren and Orin’s rustic Summerland wedding couldn’t have come to us at a more perfect time! The couple opted for an intimate wedding at the groom’s family estate and orchard in British Columbia, which offered plenty of space for an outdoor celebration and lovely natural backdrops for all the portraits and details shots captured by Mathias Fast Photography. The talented designers at Created Lovely Events teamed up with A New Leaf Floral Design to create a rustic-meets-modern dream wedding that featured a soft color palette, floral-forward decor, and geometric gold and wood accents. The bride even added a chic black leather jacket over her gorgeous Truvelle for a modern flare. Every detail was spot on, and now we’re even more excited for spring wedding season!

The Couple:

Lauren and Orin

The Wedding:

Private Estate, Summerland, British Columbia, Canada

Once we decided we were going to have an actual wedding and not elope choosing the venue was a bit of a no brainer. We knew we wanted to get married at the home that has been in Orin‘s family for generations in Summerland, BC. It’s a gorgeous old heritage home and apple orchard, built in the early 1900s. It was so wonderful to have our extended family and friends all together at this place that already has so much history for the Powell family!

One moment that sticks out it for me (Lauren) was walking down the aisle with my Dad. My Auntie Paula was playing her mandolin; we knew what she played would be beautiful, so we didn’t give her any specific song requests. As I reached the aisle she started playing “Ode to Joy” – this was the song she played on her flute many years ago, at my parent’s wedding, when my Mom and Grandpa were walking down the aisle. What a beautiful surprise! It makes me tear up just thinking about it.

We made soap for our guests! I have been making soap for the last 4 or 5 years, so it was an easy choice. One of the first time’s I visited Summerland and met Orin‘s family, his mother taught me how to make soap.

Processional – “Ode to Joy” by Ludwig van Beethoven
First Dance – “Into the Mystic” by Van Morrison (played by Uncle Tommy’s band)

6 Ways to Get Your Groom Involved in the Wedding Planning Process

August 16, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

photo by The Image Is Found

When it comes to your wedding, the most important thing is that it is a reflection of you and your hubby-to-be! So, it just makes sense that you both should have a hand in the planning process. While it might be more natural for you, as the bride, to take the lead on most of the details, there are plenty of ways for your groom to get involved. Our advice is to suggest tasks for him to own based on his strengths! What is he naturally good at? What types of tasks does he actually enjoy doing? Whether he’s an artist at heart or a financial expert, here are six wedding planning to-dos your groom may actually love based on his unique personality!

The Artist: Design the Invitations and/or Wedding Website

If your groom has an artistic eye, designing the wedding invitations is the perfect way for him to use his craft in a meaningful and memorable way. After you both decide on the theme and the color palette, let his creative genius take over to create a custom invitation suite that speaks to your unique style as a couple. If he wants to take it one step further, ask him to design the wedding website, as well! His attention to detail and his ability to create an aesthetically pleasing design will ensure you have a site your guests will love.

The Handy Man: Build Custom Furniture or Décor

If your man spends his weekends building things by hand or tinkering with home improvement projects, why not put those skills to use creating pieces you can use in your wedding décor? This can include anything from ceremony backdrops to farm tables to dessert displays. We’ve seen so many impressive DIY construction projects, so get creative in finding things that could be built instead of bought. Not only will these pieces add a more personal touch to your wedding venue, but they could also save you money and become part of your home décor after the wedding.

The Puzzle Solver: Coordinate the Seating Chart

You’ve made it through the stress of figuring out who to invite, but now you have the equally stressful task of figuring out where to seat everyone. This is the perfect task for the groom who has a natural ability to solve any puzzle you put in front of him. Just make sure he’s aware of any family/friend drama up front and then let him figure out how to make it work so that everyone is happy. Not only does it take a big stressor off your plate, but it’ll give that problem-solving brain of his an engaging and important challenge!

The Foodie: Select the Reception Food and Drink Menus

One of the most common ways for grooms to be involved in the planning process is to put together the bar. But why stop there? If your man loves all things food and drink, let him take the reins on the entire reception menu! Anyone who is a self-proclaimed foodie won’t be satisfied with anything less than the best, which is a win-win for everyone involved. Rather than settling for a standard buffet or seated dinner, let your groom explore his passion for food and drink to create a reception that will surprise and delight you, himself, and your guests.

The Financial Guru: Own the Budget

Let’s be honest: there are some grooms who either have no idea or no interest in how to contribute to the artistic elements of a wedding. That’s okay! We’ve saved one of the most important tasks for those left-brained grooms who are great with numbers and logistics: the wedding budget. While you both should discuss and agree on your wedding budget before you start planning, your groom may love putting together and maintaining spreadsheets, forecasting costs, and finding ways to save money. It’s easy to get carried away with all the details while in planning mode, so having one person manage all the numbers is a great way to ensure that you both stay on track.

The Adventure Lover: Plan the Honeymoon

Planning a honeymoon may not be as time-consuming as planning a wedding, but we think it’s an equally important part of the entire process of getting married. This is your first trip as husband and wife, so you want it to be well-planned! If your groom has a naturally adventurous spirit and the ability to put together a great trip, let him run with it! We recommend setting the expectation early about whether you want your honeymoon to be active, relaxing, or a healthy mix of both. But, once you’re on the same page, your adventurous hubby-to-be will love planning every detail — and all you have to do is pack and get ready to relax!

If your groom needs help getting started with any of these tasks, we’ve got him covered with these wedding planning resources:

The Groom Style is On Point in this Wedding at Cochrane RancheHouse

August 25, 2016 | Junebug Weddings

the-groom-style-is-on-point-in-this-wedding-at-the-cochrane-ranchehouse-32

Sara and Lance’s vintage wildflower wedding is full of trendy details like handmade projects and killer groom style! The couple’s special day at Cochrane RancheHouse incorporated a rustic color palette of whites and neutrals with the gorgeous pops of color from their wildflowers. Between the groom’s wide-brimmed hat, casual mix-and-match suit, and floral bowtie, Lance’s groom style embodies everything we love about men’s fashion this year! The Toths Photo & Film captured Sara and Lance’s wedding with a perfect balance of light and airy shots, moody portraits, and even an emotional film.

The Wedding:

I found my wedding dress initially on Truvelle’s Etsy account, and immediately knew it was the one – I later tried it on and purchased it at Pearl and Dot. I loved the flow and lace and how relaxed it looked.

What really mattered to us when planning our wedding was to have our day reflect us as a couple and also incorporate the people that we love most. We really wanted to honour the people who have been a part of our walk as a couple and wanted them to feel like they were truly a part of the celebration. Our friends and family have been an integral part in our relationship and we wanted them to be just as important on our day (and throughout our marriage). In addition, our faith in Jesus has been the foundation on which our relationship has developed, and so we really wanted to have Him at the center of our day.

Our ceremony felt extremely personal in every way. Lance‘s dad was the one who married us, so he was able to share and encourage us both personally and as a couple during the ceremony. We had two of our friends play guitar/cello and sing some of our favourite songs before, during, and after the ceremony. And we had our pastors up there to pray with us and serve us our first communion as a married couple. It was key to have people who truly knew and loved us up there to support and be such a huge part of our day.

the-groom-style-is-on-point-in-this-wedding-at-the-cochrane-ranchehouse-14

We’d both have to agree that our vow exchange was the most memorable and special moment of the day. We both wrote our own vows, and there was something so special about not only sharing those words with each other, but doing it in front of all our family and friends and having them so involved in such a pivotal moment.

I had the girls just choose off-white dresses that they loved and felt they could repurpose or wear again, and all of them already owned leather sandals so I just had them wear those.

We both love nature and simplicity, and planned the whole wedding around that. I wanted a lot of white and neutrals, but also loved the look and pop of wildflowers! To be honest, I think our relaxed attitudes contributed a lot to the look we got in the end. We never actually chose wedding colours, we just went with the flow! I actually remember telling my florist, “I don’t really know what I want, just choose some wildflowers you like!”

Almost everything at our wedding was DIY. It’s usually a less expensive option, but more than that it made us feel like we were truly creating our day, and it made it so much more personal. We felt so accomplished on the day of as we were able to look around and feel like everything represented us so well. One of my favourite DIY pieces was the lace bunting- Lance‘s mom picked up vintage table cloths/curtains/anything lace, then we cut all the triangles out and sewed them together to create the bunting. We also created all the wood signs, ceremony arch, and wood boxes.

One piece of wedding advice I would give is just enjoy planning! We had so much fun becoming creative and involved in our day. I don’t think it would have been nearly as meaningful if we had just rented or had someone else plan the whole day. We loved being engaged in planning and having friends and families contribute with their talents and creativity. We tried not to stress too much about little details, and kept reminding ourselves what the day is truly about.

Our caterer also allowed us to bring in our own desserts, so we had a huge table full of contributions from family and friends. We loved everything about the wedding and it was so meaningful that so many people we loved helped to create the day!
