This Eclectic Marfa Wedding Blends The Grooms’ Urban and Country Texas Roots

February 1, 2018 | colleen

Manny and Colt’s Marfa wedding has many eclectic elements that make for a pretty magical day. We are especially loving Manny and Colt’s bold suits from Paul Smith and Hugo Boss. The rich blue and red colors contrast well to the Marfa desert and bright greenery used in the reception space – it gives for a fun and playful vibe that carries through the day’s celebration. Manny and Colt’s reception had plenty of fun elements from a dessert table full of cakes and sweets made by Dessert Gallery to a Smilebooth with various wigs to accessorize with. Once again, Joseph West Photography killed it in photographing Manny and Colt’s couple portraits with his unique use of light and composition.

The Couple:

Manny and Colt

The Wedding:

Thunderbird Marfa, Marfa, Texas

We are so happy we had Lizzy of Magic Hour Marfa by our side the whole way to make the majority of the process effortless. We couldn’t be more grateful for her help!

Marfa, TX was one of our first vacations together in 2007 and we have been going there multiple times a year and eventually buying a home there. Marfa and the west Texas mountains/desert are a part of us and our soul. Our friend Jacqueline let us host our ceremony on her scenic land right outside of town and our reception was at the Capri which is part of the Thunderbird Hotel and where we first stayed in 2007.

The most memorable part of the day was driving west on Highway 90 just outside of Marfa for the ceremony arrival and seeing the crowd of people waiting for us in the desert. We had a location about 1/4 mile off the main road where our family and friends were waiting for us and as we approached our mothers met us half way to walk us down the aisle.

The most important thing was bringing our friends and families together to share our favorite place, Marfa, TX and to help us celebrate 11 years of love and companionship.

I (Manuel) am a commercial interior designer and created the vision for the wedding. It was a reflection of our personal styles- approachable and eclectic, with a mix of urban/country vibes that reflect our upbringing. Manuel=urban (Houston) and Colt=country (Stephenville, TX)

We DIY’d a few things! We gathered 1000- 8 day white religious candles to set up at all the tables and sourced tall and simple clear glass hurricanes to place large monstera leaves into. Manuel created the save the date’s and website. We also collected 20+ wigs for the Smilebooth that were the hit of the reception!
