After Waiting 9 Months for the Groom’s Visa, This Couple Celebrated with a Snowy Loveland Pass Elopement

January 16, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

Megan and Cameron’s incredible, wintry Loveland Pass elopement proves that good things come to those who wait! After a whirlwind romance and an epic engagement, this adventurous couple wouldn’t settle for anything less than an exquisite setting for their special day, which made the snow-covered Rockies the perfect choice. The couple’s day included a self-solemnized ceremony, a champagne toast, and a cake cutting on the back of their tailgate — and that simplicity couldn’t have been more charming. Megan channeled serious woodland princess vibes with a dusty blue skirt from Wardrobe by Dulcinea and eye-catching flower crown created by By Kochetova. Lucky for us all, Amy Bluestar Photography was there to capture every dreamy moment of this winter wonderland elopement!

The Couple:

Megan and Cameron

The Wedding:

Loveland Pass, Rocky Mountains, Colorado

We eloped mostly because everything had to be last minute; we waited almost 9 months for my husband’s visa to come through (he’s from London) so the easiest thing to do was to have the big things in place (dress, suit, photographer) and just drive out to Colorado as soon as he could get here. But I also really wanted to get married amongst the mountains. We met on a grand adventure (the Mongol Rally) and got engaged at Moraine Lake in Banff, so I wanted to say our vows to each other and before God in a place that made us feel small and humble and awed.

The whole day was so special and amazing (and freezing) but my favorite memory was pronouncing ourselves as husband and wife. We had a self-solemnization ceremony at Loveland Pass, so there were some other people around. We were in a spot that still felt private, but I guess some people had waited at their cars when they saw what we were doing. When we pronounced ourselves married and kissed, they all cheered and honked their horns. It was completely unexpected and actually really delightful.

I knew I wanted a big dramatic tulle skirt in a dusty blue color against the backdrop of the mountains, and my dressmaker absolutely delivered. Between that and my gorgeous silk flower crown, I felt like a woodland princess!

Take the time to really consider what’s important to you as a couple and stay true to that. We eloped for several reasons, but we also had a marriage celebration a month later with our closest family and friends. I’m my mother’s only child, and I knew she was having a hard time not being there. So we had another ceremony, repeated our vows, and had the people who are most involved in our lives sign a covenant as witnesses to hold us to them. Both the elopement and the celebration were incredibly personal and tailored to us, and we really had the best of both worlds. So, don’t do things just because they’re what people do – take the time to evaluate what’s actually meaningful to you.

This Organic Chic Acre Baja Wedding Showcases Some Seriously Unique Bride and Groom Style

October 21, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

This Cabo wedding at Acre Baja is for the foodies and the fashionistas! Alexandra and Steven took wedding day style to a whole new level with the bride donning not one but two custom capes alongside her Pronovias gown and Gucci shoes and the groom rocking a classic black tux accessorized with a non-traditional Gucci tie and Stetson hat. Their goal was to create a chic, modern, and — most importantly — fun destination celebration, and we think they did just that! With tiny bottles of Mezcal and maracas for each guest, a carefully curated selection of the best foods, and the expert design eye of Bliss Events by Bonnie Chase, they created a one-of-a-kind celebration we’re sure none of their guests will forget! There were so many unbelievably stylish moments, as well as some outrageously fun party moments, and photographer Stefanie Vinsel captured them all brilliantly and harmoniously!

The Couple:

Alexandra and Steven

The Wedding:

Acre Baja, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

My dress was by Pronovias and my shoes were by Gucci. Because I work in the fashion industry, I had to do something to personalize my look. So, I made two separate capes that hooked onto my dress. The ceremony cape was made of silk and extended 5 feet past my dress, and the reception cape was hand-beaded and weighed over 7 pounds!

For us, it was important to be able to spend as much time with our friends and family as we could. We wanted to love, laugh, dance, eat, drink with all of them for more than just our big day. We also wanted them to really get time to know each other better as well. That said, if anyone else feels the same way, a piece of advice would be to have a destination wedding. It almost forces that situation to create itself.

The food and drink were provided by Acre and it was unreal (and that comes from two foodies)! Upon entering the venue, guests were greeted with a choice of welcome cocktails; a tamarind old fashioned and a mezcal cocktail with lime, pineapple, and hibiscus.

After the ceremony, canapes were served by the pool, including quesadillas with squash blossoms and salsa verde, oysters with Michelada, red wine mignonette and soy peppercorn and a chorizo flatbread with cucumber yogurt and pumpkin seed pesto. For dinner, guests were served a family-style menu. We also had a custom lemon rosemary cake with cream cheese frosting and a boysenberry drizzle.

The most memorable part of our wedding, for both of us, was sitting at our sweetheart table and taking it all in. That all our friends and family were there to celebrate the love we share. It was pretty incredible to see so many people there that supported us on our journey.

The Unique OUE Skyspace Los Angeles Wedding was Inspired by the Landscape of the Groom’s Home in Australia

August 19, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Inspired by the crystal clear waters and the rugged landscape of Australia, Heather and Jordan created an unforgettable wedding celebration at OUE Skyspace Los Angeles. With help from their planner, Samantha Rae Events, they transformed the outdoor terrace into an intimate ceremony space and the grand hall into a modern and sophisticated space for their reception. The couple also chose a unique twist for their unity ceremony in which they poured glass pieces together that an artist will transform into a custom vase for their home. To add contrast to the all-white reception space, Tutta Bella Florist created lush and cascading tropical-inspired floral designs for the tables that enhanced the Australian feel. From the sky-high view over LA to the slide that the bride and groom rode during their portrait session, everything about this wedding was totally unique and Monique Dao Photography captured it all beautifully!

These Design Loving Grooms Planned an Elegant Outdoor Wedding at Moke Lake

August 14, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Our wanderlust is off the charts today thanks to Daniel and Tyson’s intimate, wild, and impeccably designed New Zealand wedding near Moke Lake. This stylish couple infused a free-spirited Bedouin vibe into their stripped-back elegant look with a stretch tent, Persian rugs, rose petals, tall grasses, and a combination of brass and wood accents — and the result was simply stunning. We adore that these grooms chose white linen suit jackets from MJ Bale for a modern twist on classic wedding attire and that they carried that same free-spirited vibe into their girls’ look with black dresses from Montique Clothing and sand-colored rose bouquets designed by Downies Flowers. These photos from Chasewild are just as stunning as the wedding itself and truly captured the joyous, heartfelt, and carefree feeling of this inspirational wedding!

The Couple:

Daniel and Tyson

The Wedding:

Ben Lomond Station, Moke Lake, Queensland, New Zealand

The nerves and butterflies while driving to Moke Lake weren’t anticipated. Greeting our wedding party before walking the field to the ceremony had an emotional but hushed excitement. But once we started the long traverse across the field, we felt all nerves and prior stress leave us, and we were filled with peaceful calmness as we walked to be greeted by 50 of our most loved friends and family.

We love design, both graphic and interior. It runs in the family. So it was important to us that literally everything about our wedding was hand selected and curated by us. All invites, menus, and our save the date were designed by us.

We’re really proud of how we styled our wedding party. For the girls especially, we wanted to avoid a typical wedding look. We wanted elegant lines, and we felt black would accentuate their features, skin, and necklines. It also highlighted the flowers and setting.

The color of the roses we used in their bouquets are called “quicksand,” and they are ridiculously gorgeous.

Processional – “The Light” by Sara Bareilles
Recessional – “For Once in my Life” by Stevie Wonder

The day before the wedding, when everything was due to be set up, a freak weather system passed through. It was only March, but our guys who set up our tent (heroes) did so in the snow. One thing we learned is that having no phone reception at the location of your wedding is seriously tricky. With one freak turn of the weather, months of planning and design was literally about to all go down the drain. But, in the end, it made our actual wedding day that much more special.

As gay men, we’ve walked a very long and difficult journey to get to where we are, and that was recognized in a very emotional and joyous day.

We felt that using a stretch tent instead of a marquee was a refreshing twist. Using Persian rugs, rose petals, brass, and lots of wood, we tried to highlight the Bedouin feel of this style of tent. We’re really happy with how that looked in the end. Having Dr. Sanchez play some latin guitar between the ceremony and into our dinner service was the perfect accompaniment to the afternoon. I can’t emphasize the worth of live musicianship for events like this.

These Grooms Were Charmed by Terraza Trinitate for Their San Miguel Wedding – And You Will Be Too!

June 17, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Rob and Jake’s wedding at Terraza Trinitate in San Miguel was bursting with vivid colors and festive vibes, all set against the backdrop of old world Mexican charm. The couple exchanged vows in the courtyard of Casa Tortugas and then danced through the streets with their friends, family, and a Mariachi band as they made their way to the reception venue. The planning team at San Miguel Weddings honed in on Rob and Jake’s impeccable style and combined that with the vibrancy of Mexican culture to create a visually stunning design that was glamorous, festive, and totally unique. Pierce Photography did a remarkable job capturing the balance between the quiet, intimate moments Rob and Jake spent together and the over-the-top joyful moments in the streets and on the dance floor they spent with their loved ones.

8 Tips for Grooms to Get the Most Out of Their Wedding Day Before Saying “I Do”

June 12, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

There’s so much attention given to ensuring brides feel their best on the morning of the wedding, so we want to make sure grooms know how to make the most of their wedding day, as well! There’s really no better way to kick those pre-ceremony jitters than by spending the entire morning with your best guys. So, take a cue from the bridal party tradition, and make an event out of getting ready together. Here are 8 tips for making the most of your wedding morning so you’re feeling and looking your absolute best all day long!

Start Your Day Early

Even if your wedding morning isn’t packed with tasks, we highly recommend you start the day early so you’re not feeling rushed at any point. As much as you might want to, this is not the day to sleep in! You’ll need all the time you can get to cross everything off your list while stilling allowing some buffer time to account for unforeseen events or complications. If you’re not sure where to start, use the bride’s getting-ready timeline as a guide, schedule every activity for a specific time, and be conservative with assuming how long each activity will take. Make sure to give a copy of the schedule to all your groomsmen beforehand so they can plan ahead and be on time the morning of the wedding. To save time in the morning, make sure to have everything packed that you’ll need for the wedding day and the honeymoon.

SHOP TRAVEL KITS

Eat a Big Meal

This should probably go without saying, but you definitely should plan to eat a big meal with your guys before the ceremony. This might be the last time you can eat until the reception — and even then you might not get to eat as much as you’d like while being pulled for conversations, photos, and dancing. So, either hit up your favorite breakfast joint, have food delivered to your getting ready venue, or get everyone involved by whipping up a hearty meal together. Balance is key, so make sure it’s packed with protein to keep you full all day. And don’t forget the coffee!

Get Active

After you’ve fueled up and before you dive into the getting ready process, take some time to get moving and to work out some of that nervous energy. Plan a touch football game, throw a frisbee around, or head to a nearby driving range to hit a bucket of golf balls. This is the perfect time to clear your mind, get high on those endorphins, and get into a positive mindset that you can carry throughout the entire day. Keep in mind: if you’re planning to get super active and sweaty, make sure you have access to a shower so you can clean up before the ceremony!

Distribute Gifts

If you didn’t give out your groomsmen gifts at the rehearsal dinner — or you wanted to make it a more personal experience — make sure to set aside time the morning of the wedding to distribute gifts. DLM Supply has gift ideas from dozens of brands that would fit any personality, from wallets to watches and everything in between. We also have a list of the best Etsy groomsmen gifts if you’re looking for even more ideas! Try to choose gifts that are personalized for each groomsman and that can either be worn for the wedding or used frequently after the wedding day.

SHOP GROOMSMEN GIFTS

Get Groomed

Now that you’re feeling your best, it’s time to make sure you’re looking your best. If you want to give yourself and your groomsmen an extra relaxing treat, hire a barber to come in and give everyone a straight-razor shave. The bride and bridesmaids aren’t the only ones who deserve to be pampered! If you’d prefer to keep it low-key, you could also pick up specialty shaving kits for everyone to use themselves.

SHOP GROOMING KITS

Get Dressed Early

As a general rule, you and your groomsmen should start getting dressed 45 minutes to an hour before you’re needed for photos. It’s better to be ready early than to feel rushed at the very end, and we guarantee you won’t regret leaving that much time to get dressed. The best case scenario is that you have extra time to take photos with your groomsmen. But, in the event that you have forgotten something or a button pops off your jacket, you’ll have plenty of time to send someone to find or fix your attire. If you’re looking for style ideas, make sure to take a peek at these 2018 groom style trends (and shop the links below).

SHOP SUITS

Take a Few Moments to Yourself

While most of your getting ready time will be spent with your groomsmen, it’s a good idea to schedule a few private moments for yourself at some point before the ceremony. Whether you take this time to hand-write the vows you typed up on your phone, double check your honeymoon bag, or go into a quiet space to pray or meditate, giving yourself time to reflect and mentally prepare for the day ahead will help you feel grounded and present before the rush begins.

Raise a Glass

Once you’re all ready to go, the final thing to do is raise a glass to you, your wedding day, and the guys who will be standing by your side. Pick up a bottle of your favorite liquor — or break out that fancy bottle you’ve been saving for a special occasion — and take a shot just before you head out the door. It’s officially time to get the party started!

This Dairyland Wedding Includes 2 Goats, a Rainbow, and Killer Bride & Groom Style

May 8, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

We simply cannot get over that it took Stephanie and Michael only three months to pull together their Dairyland wedding in Seattle! They had not one but two ceremonies on their wedding day: the first was a very intimate ceremony at their temple and the second was the outdoor ring exchange that Jordan Voth Photography captured. Their second ceremony involved two goat ring bearers, the bride’s grandmother as an honorary flower girl, and — as you can imagine — tons of laughter! (Seriously, you have to see the wedding video created by Colton McCoy Photo & Video at the end of this post to see the runaway goat situation!) There was plenty of effortless elegance, as well, most notably the bride’s stunning Nicole Couture gown and the groom’s burgundy ASOS suit that both fit perfectly with the moody PNW vibes. Jordan Voth Photography captured a lot of incredible images, but the couple’s portraits at a dreamy treehouse deep in the woods have to be our favorites!

The Couple:

Stephanie and Michael

The Wedding:

Dairyland, Seattle, Washington

I was in the bridal suite spending the last few quiet moments getting ready and my groom runs in and shouts, “It’s an emergency! Come outside with me!” We were met with the most incredible rainbow. We ran toward the field, and Jordan captured everything.

We had a very intimate ceremony in the LDS temple in the morning. A church leader from my childhood performed the ceremony. It was really special and there wasn’t a dry eye. We also wanted to involve all our guests in our union, so we held another ring ceremony so our family and friends could be involved. We asked my Grandma to be our flower girl along with our nieces. My Grandma’s nickname is flower Grandma because she’s always wearing a floral muumuu. She’s like my best friend. We call each other BFG for Best Friend Grandma and Best Friend Granddaughter.

For the ceremony, we had our two Nigerian dwarf goats as our ring bearers. We had a foolproof plan for my nephew to shake a can of oats to get them down the aisle. They were well practiced and obedient for the rehearsal. But, when it came time for them to walk down the aisle, they were totally distracted gobbling up all the flower petals. One of the goats never even made it down the aisle! I was unaware of the hold-up, so my dad and I started down the aisle. Everyone stood and my husband motioned me to pause. At this point, everyone is roaring with laughter about the naughty goats. Michael scooped up the goat and ran past me walking down the aisle to put him in the pen at the back of the ceremony. Then he ran around the perimeter and emerged from behind the arbor to meet me. It definitely wasn’t the typical groom sheds a tear watching his bride walk down the aisle in slow motion moment, but it was hilarious and memorable. Looking back, we wouldn’t have had it any other way!
