Gray and Gold Covington, Louisiana Wedding at The Barnhouse

February 28, 2018 | colleen

Kelsey and Brock’s Louisiana wedding is full of Southern charm! These two wed at The Barnhouse which was the perfect space for their emotional outdoor ceremony. They said “I do” under a simple arch with gray fabric draping on one side and a statement floral arrangement by Antigua Florals + Styling. The pastel color palette is the perfect choice for Kelsey and Brock’s timeless wedding. Wanting to keep their day true to who they are, they put a twist on tradition and opted for food trucks from Rue Chow Food Truck + Catering. Photographers Erin and Geoffrey Photography and videographer Apercu Films effortlessly captured the classic meets modern style of Kelsey and Brock’s wedding day.

My best wedding planning advice would be to make sure you stay true to what you want for your wedding. My wedding was so perfect for me and my husband because we we stayed true to who we are as a couple. Oh, and make sure to spend on your dream photographer and videographer because it is so worth it to be able to relive the day over again!

I wanted my dress to be modern but still soft and romantic. My dress was a crepe skirt with minimal lace embroidery and imaginary lace bodice. I wore gold Kendra Scott “duster” earrings, a gold Kendra bracelet, and my gold engagement ring. I loved my dress because it fit my personality and gave me a feeling like no other dress had. I think I’ll look back on it for years to come and still truly love it!

We did small, sentimental gifts. Brock gave me a bracelet with the coordinates of the place we first spoke when we were 16 years old. I gave him a tie bar with the words “Lumiere, Darling” engraved on the back. Those words are my favorite words from our first dance song. They mean “you’re my light, darling.”

We really wanted to get married in the forest in northern California or Oregon, but wanting to stay close to family was important so we decided to visit a family friend’s private residence in Covington. I walked onto the property and immediately knew that it was the perfect place. Full of forest, greenery, and an outdoor, organic feel… It was like being in a different place that was completely perfect for us.

Our ceremony hand tying ritual and reading our own vows was definitely the most memorable part of the day. It was the most beautiful moment we’ve ever experienced and I will never forget the way I felt in those moments.

The most important thing to me when planning my wedding was that our ceremony reflect how we feel about each other. Our ceremony was untraditional. It was officiated by my best friend, and we chose poems and words that explained how we felt about love and marriage and then exchanged our own vows. We even did a hand tying ritual and my brother recited a poem. It was emotional and so incredibly perfect for us and our guests.

My colors were all neutrals. Soft grays, nudes, cream/whites and gold accents. I knew I wanted neutrals, but it wasn’t until I chose my mix matched bridesmaids dresses that I knew what family of neutrals I wanted to go with. Greenery was always a must!

For our wedding we did a food truck! We wanted to do something different than other weddings in Louisiana and it was the best decision. Our guests had never experienced it and it help to make the relaxed, edgy vibe. The food was incredible: spicy shrimp tacos, Korean barbecue tacos, sliders, truffle mac, beignets!

  1. What a way to show off that gown, in the picture where we get a full look at the end of the skirt, twirling around like a mermaid’s tail.
