Dazzling And Intimate Bogota Wedding

June 9, 2021 | kailey

A bride in an all-white pantsuit, mix-and-match bridesmaid outfits, and a brunch menu—this is the recipe for an authentic, epic celebration that will have nontraditional couples everywhere dreaming of an out-of-the-box wedding day. Daniela and Felipe’s intimate Bogota wedding was full of tears, laughter, and killer wedding day fashion.

With the help of their trusted wedding vendors, this couple was able to bring their dream wedding to life, despite a pandemic. They wanted a day surrounded by loved ones that celebrated their uniqueness and honored the jaw-dropping, historic architecture of their wedding venue. Floral arrangements by Flores Gracia beautifully dressed the ceremony and reception space—Casa de Rey in Bogotá, Colombia. Aside from the florals, the reception was centered around the desserts, which were handmade by the bride herself.

We can’t take our eyes off the unique wedding elements captured by photographer Loop Studios. From the mix-max bridesmaid outfits to the muted color palette—no detail of this intimate Bogota wedding was short of amazing. Keep scrolling to see what we mean.

More From Loop Studios On This Intimate Bogota Wedding

A wedding in the historic neighborhood of Bogota between two people who met in their childhood? We love this story. Daniela and Felipe got married in an old and restored house located in the heart of Bogota—with an industrial interior design.

Daniela picked a stylish suit and headpiece for her wedding, designed by a Colombian fashion designer. The cake and desserts were made by the bride herself—making them really special. The decor of the day was carefully curated to liven up the existing historic architecture. Daniela and Felipe’s wedding was definitely one of our favorite weddings of the season. It was filled with tears, laughs, and beautiful details.

The Importance Of Hiring Trusted Wedding Vendors

Our biggest wedding advice: have the right assets and people to help make your day come together nicely. We couldn’t have done it without our dear friend and wedding planner Juliana, the best photographer, a great venue, and our floral designer

Grab Your Tissues

The most memorable moment for everyone would have to be Felipe crying the whole entire symbolic ceremony. Yes! In nine years I hadn’t seen Felipe cry as much as he did then. It was just extra special as one of our dear friends was our officiant. We absolutely cherished having our loved ones with us on our special day during these crazy pandemic times.

Including Loved-Ones On Your Big Day

We personalized our ceremony by having one of our best friends Irene be our officiant. We asked her if she would help us make a symbolic ceremony and it was the most beautiful thing ever. She got everyone involved by making each one of our guests wish our marriage one single word like happiness, joy, and love.

Working With Photographer Loop Studios

Ever since we saw the Loop Studios on Instagram we knew they had to be at our wedding. Sergio was the kindest and made us feel so comfortable, which was great because Felipe is camera shy.  He got all of the photos we dreamed of and wanted.

Gorgeously Detailed Union On Eighth Wedding

May 24, 2021 | riley

Matching wedding party baseball jerseys, furry friends in flower collars, and epic bridal fashion complete with a fringe wedding dress and seriously killer bridal pantsuit–what more could you ask for in a wedding? Whitney and Haley’s Union On Eighth nuptials were focused less on trends and more on details that they loved. The results were stunning, to say the least.

With the help of planner Simply XO Events, the couple transformed the old mechanic shop into a wedding venue. The building was filled with bold florals from Ida Mayes Floristry, romantic table settings, and a huge hanging neon sign from Brite Light Tribe. But enough about the decor,  the fringey free-spirited Tara Lauren wedding dress looked dazzling paired with the clean-cut Rime Arodaky and Kira Kouture bridal suit combo.

The photos captured by Map + Compass Photography are sure to inspire more boho “I do’s,” so keep scrolling and get ready to save every last photo.

Memorable Wedding Gifts

I did a boudoir shoot and gifted Haley a leather book of the photos. I wanted this to be something that we could look back on when we are older and remember who we were at this stage in life. Haley gifted me a ring that she had custom-made for me. She took a few stones from one of my Nana’s rings and had a jeweler create the most perfectly dainty gold ring. My Nana was my favorite person in the whole wide world, and unfortunately, she passed away years ago. She wasn’t able to attend our wedding or ever know Haley. So Haley wanted me to always have a piece of her with me, especially on such a special day. One of the stones was a blue sapphire, which made it my “something blue” too.

A Special Ceremony Musician

We had a musician perform during the ceremony, and he was someone that we had heard at dinner one night a couple of years prior to us even being engaged. That night years ago I told Haley that if we ever got married, I wanted him there, and proceeded to wait for him to finish so that I could get his contact information.

Creating The Wedding Day Aesthetic

I try not to decorate or design based on trends because I know that those will fade. We applied this same thought process to our wedding. We began choosing designs and items that we loved and that we knew we would love for a long, long time. Once we had narrowed things down, we created a mood board to get a good idea of how everything would work together.

Why A Union On Eighth Wedding

We chose our venue because it felt like us. It wasn’t a brand new building with brand new light fixtures and no character. It was an old mechanic shop turned wedding venue, and the moment you walk in, you just know that those walls have held love, life, and stories.

edgy micro wedding bride and groom posing together

When every detail in a wedding feels important it can seem like there are no alternatives when you’re forced to downsize. If changing up the plan is outside of your hands, a dream wedding can still come true with the help of an incredible vendor team and a group of friends! Like many couples planning nuptials during the pandemic, Mariella and Tom had to pivot their plans from a traditional wedding to a micro ceremony. Their gorgeous and edgy micro wedding was planned in just 48 hours and there are too many beautiful details to count.

Between the bride’s jumpsuit and the incredible venue, we’re having a hard time choosing our favorite aspects of this wedding. We love how the dark and moody floral arrangements complement The Joker—their venue and where they had one of their first dates! Edgy Micro Wedding Highlights

At first, when we were planning our original wedding that was canceled due to COVID, every last detail felt so important. In the end, it turns out that just being able to finally call each other husband and wife was the most important thing. We felt so lucky that all our family could be there with such short notice, too. It was amazing having them there.

The Joker Was The Perfect Edgy Venue

We had one of our very first dates at The Joker in Brighton, we also had our engagement party there. So it felt very sentimental to celebrate our love in this same location

Wedding Planning Advice For Other Couples

We think it’s important to let go of the idea that everything has to be perfect because it’s not going to be! It’s still going to be amazing, though.

Simply Elegant Outdoor Micro Wedding

March 22, 2021 | riley

For some couples, tying the knot in a civil ceremony at the courthouse isn’t ideal, but we love the fact that couples aren’t letting COVID get in the way of celebrating their love however they can. Janine and Sarah celebrated their love for one another in a simply elegant outdoor micro wedding after saying “I do” at the registry office, and it was everything you could want in an intimate affair.

Friends and family surrounded the couple as they promised their lives to each other before heading outside for drinks and portraits. Photographer Hannah Konda Fotographie beautifully captured the free-spirited vibes of the day, and we can’t wait to share them with you! So keep scrolling to see how less can be more.

Wedding Day Advice

Be exactly who you are. It does not matter if things do not work out as you expect. No matter what, it will be the best day of your life, so don’t let anything get you down–even when your party is smaller due to COVID restrictions. We had to move our big party because of COVID, but it was still the best day of our lives! Get back to the original thought of why you are getting married. It’s because you love your partner, and that’s all that counts.

Custom Wedding Day Fashion

We each have our own style. We looked at a lot of dresses, but in the end, the suit was designed for Sarah, and the skirt and top that Janine wore was a combination that we chose ourselves. Everything we found in the shops was not really our desired style.

Romantic And Intimate Shakespeare Garden Elopement

March 1, 2021 | riley

Elopements have taken the world by storm thanks to COVID, and while they may not be the celebrations couples originally planned on having, we love how intimate they are. After months of planning, librarians Amanda and Caitlin opted for a Shakespeare Garden elopement as a nod to their time as booksellers and favorite date night activity.

Caitlin looked glamorous in her Eloquii blue sequined dress, and we’re obsessed with Amanda’s bridal suit. There’s nothing we love more than couples breaking wedding traditions, after all. And both styles fit perfectly with their New York city portraits by photographer Sylvie Rosokoff. Keep scrolling to take a stroll through this Big Apple elopement.

The Couple:

Amanda and Caitlin

The Wedding:

Shakespeare Garden, Central Park, New York

Why A Shakespeare Garden Elopement

We chose the Shakespeare Garden in Central Park as the site of our elopement because one of our favorite traditions–that started before we were even dating–has been to go to Shakespeare in the Park every summer together. We met as booksellers, and are now both librarians. Since we are also early risers we also wanted to marry early in the morning—it’s the perfect way to start the day. Marrying early allowed us to avoid the crowds and made us feel like we were all alone in Central Park.

Unique Bridal Fashion

For a long time, Caitlin thought that we would both be wearing suits at our wedding. However, after a long winter and COVID quarantining, she wanted something colorful and bright and sparkly; something that reflected how she felt–exuberant in love. She was able to find her blue sequined dress on Eloquii in the sale section after a long virtual search. It wasn’t so much about the brand or price of the dress but how it made her feel, which was incredible.

The Couple’s Favorite Photo At The Met

Our favorite photo was taken sitting on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, a place we often visit in non-COVID times. We like to get lost amongst the art together. When we first saw this photograph as part of a sneak peek, we actually gasped. It’s of the two of us looking at each other, and Caitlin’s flowers resting against her foot. The colors are so vibrant, and our shared look is so clearly full of love. Sylvie was able to beautifully capture this moment of intimate joy. If we only had this photo of our wedding day, it would be more than enough.

Gorgeous Springdale Station Sunset Wedding With Surprise Outfits

January 21, 2021 | Junebug Weddings

Two gorgeous brides in two very different bridal gowns were the creme de la creme of this Springdale Station sunset wedding. With the love for each other as their centerpiece, wedding planner I Do! Wedding & Events decorated this old train station with things they love—warm-toned flowers, Rupi Kaur poetry, and a triangle altar arch. Plus, they ended the day with tacos, which is always a great idea.

But we have to pause to gush over their attire—one bride wore a beautifully embroidered veil to match her simple, yet elegant bridal gown. The other bride wore a stunning strapless bridal dress with chiffon detailing. And we do love a good outfit surprise—but we won’t spoil it. Scroll down to see the details of this gorgeous Springdale Station sunset wedding, captured by Junebug member Nikk Nguyen Photo

The Couple:

Rebecca and Claudia

The Wedding:

Springdale Station, Austin, Texas

A Truly Personalized Wedding at Springdale Station

The ceremony was filled with both meaning and tradition: Rupi Kaur’s words really resonated with us, as much as the more transitional texts. The music made us smile, as did all the white, yellow, and orange flowers. Things felt green and whole.

Perfect Is An Understatement

Honestly, it was a perfect day. I know all brides say that, but it really, truly was. We felt peaceful, happy, and—most importantly—present. We wanted to have an experience where the people we love could get a glance at the world we’ve created for each other. It was a fun wedding, where our friends never left the dance floor! And even though we expected (but it’s by no means a guarantee), we had the most fun at our wedding.

Wedding Advice For Nearlyweds

Wedding planning is hard. It is a joyful time and tests a relationship in the ways only an intense year-long project can. We felt like we were doing everything wrong, until we finally spoke up to our other engaged friends and realized they were having a hard time too. So it’s ok for it to be difficult. It’s ok to feel overwhelmed by the choices, your families, even your partner. But once you’ve accounted for as many possibilities as you can, you have to let it go. We stopped worrying the Wednesday before and quit all decision making. It allowed us to feel calm, and present to experience our special weekend.

Tears of Joy And A Fun Surprise

There were all these incredible moments: turning to see each other at the altar, whispering little things during the ceremony to each other, walking out to Real Love by Father John Misty, getting mobbed by our friends and then chastised because they all cried! To top it all off, dancing was unforgettable—even more so when we busted out in our suits!

2021 Wedding Trends

January 16, 2021 | kailey

Image by Ariana Tennyson. See more of this real wedding here.

This year is a celebration of uniqueness—weddings included. 2021 will be filled with trends that will have weddings looking a little different from years passed. A year that will have many steering away from tradition, prioritizing meaningful-intimate details that make a wedding unique. This will be a year where quality over quantity is cherished and weddings are planned with purpose. But that’s not all.

The past year has shown us that love conquers all and we can’t wait to see the unique and detailed celebrations coming our way. Here are just a few trends we are looking forward to seeing in 2021:

Less Is More

In 2021, less is definitely more when it comes to guest size. With a growing number of postponed celebrations, many are choosing to trade their large over-the-top guest lists for smaller and more intimate micro-weddings and elopements

These smaller celebrations take the stress out of planning and allow you to focus your energy on making memories that are oh-so-special. Due to convenience, and the pandemic, these celebrations have become increasingly popular and we don’t see them going away anytime soon.

Home Is Where The Heart Is

As couples look for fresh and creative ways to host celebrations this year, backyard weddings have become increasingly popular. These venues offer more than just budget-friendly costs and convenience. Backyard weddings allow couples to get creative and truly bring to life their dream wedding space.

For those dreaming of an adventurous destination wedding, not all is lost. Many couples have also decided to forego extravagant destination wedding venues for over-looked and beautiful domestic locations that are close to home—proving you don’t need to spend your life savings to get the destination wedding experience.

Outdoor Wedding Ceremonies

Outdoor ceremonies are quickly becoming the new norm and we’re totally here for it. With safety being the number one priority, many are opting for outdoor ceremonies and receptions over traditional indoor nuptials. Not to mention the unlimited style possibilities that allow couples to personalize beautiful outdoor backdrops with jaw-dropping details like dreamy twinkle lights and fully personalized tents.

Bold Colors

From fashion to florals—bold colors are the way to go in 2021 and Pantone agrees. The Pantone Color of the Year is a union of Ultimate Gray and Illuminating, which is a vibrant yellow. These colors represent strength and positivity—two attributes many couples will look to incorporate into their big day in 2021.

This year’s all about personalization, making the day unique and anything but traditional. Want to wear a purple dress? Wear a purple dress. A yellow suit? Go for it. The use of bold and eye-catching color palettes are sure to bring a strong, eclectic, and positive energy to any space in 2021.

Buffets Are Canceled

Goodbye buffets, hello plated meals. With smaller celebrations and safety concerns, buffet-style meals are a thing of the past. Plated meals are a great way to create a relaxed, stress-free, and intimate dining experience for your wedding guests. It’s also an excuse for over-the-top and unforgettable reception table setups.

Overlooked Wedding Dress Styles

With micro-weddings and elopement-styled ceremonies taking center stage in 2021 short wedding gowns—though often overlooked— are sure to give glamorous floor-length gowns a run for their money. 2021 is the year of planning with purpose—whether that purpose is practicality or unique style there is a short dress fit for everyone

Casual And Natural Hairstyles

There is beauty in simplicity—which rings true for both wedding fashion and wedding hairstyles. One trend that won’t be going away in 2021 is the easy, elegant, and classic curl. It’s a versatile hairstyle that can be easily dressed into any wedding style, with a veil or headpiece, and allows personality and natural beauty to radiate.
