This year is a celebration of uniqueness—weddings included. 2021 will be filled with trends that will have weddings looking a little different from years passed. A year that will have many steering away from tradition, prioritizing meaningful-intimate details that make a wedding unique. This will be a year where quality over quantity is cherished and weddings are planned with purpose. But that’s not all.

The past year has shown us that love conquers all and we can’t wait to see the unique and detailed celebrations coming our way. Here are just a few trends we are looking forward to seeing in 2021:

Less Is More

In 2021, less is definitely more when it comes to guest size. With a growing number of postponed celebrations, many are choosing to trade their large over-the-top guest lists for smaller and more intimate micro-weddings and elopements

These smaller celebrations take the stress out of planning and allow you to focus your energy on making memories that are oh-so-special. Due to convenience, and the pandemic, these celebrations have become increasingly popular and we don’t see them going away anytime soon.

Home Is Where The Heart Is

As couples look for fresh and creative ways to host celebrations this year, backyard weddings have become increasingly popular. These venues offer more than just budget-friendly costs and convenience. Backyard weddings allow couples to get creative and truly bring to life their dream wedding space.

For those dreaming of an adventurous destination wedding, not all is lost. Many couples have also decided to forego extravagant destination wedding venues for over-looked and beautiful domestic locations that are close to home—proving you don’t need to spend your life savings to get the destination wedding experience.

Outdoor Wedding Ceremonies

Outdoor ceremonies are quickly becoming the new norm and we’re totally here for it. With safety being the number one priority, many are opting for outdoor ceremonies and receptions over traditional indoor nuptials. Not to mention the unlimited style possibilities that allow couples to personalize beautiful outdoor backdrops with jaw-dropping details like dreamy twinkle lights and fully personalized tents.

Bold Colors

From fashion to florals—bold colors are the way to go in 2021 and Pantone agrees. The Pantone Color of the Year is a union of Ultimate Gray and Illuminating, which is a vibrant yellow. These colors represent strength and positivity—two attributes many couples will look to incorporate into their big day in 2021.

This year’s all about personalization, making the day unique and anything but traditional. Want to wear a purple dress? Wear a purple dress. A yellow suit? Go for it. The use of bold and eye-catching color palettes are sure to bring a strong, eclectic, and positive energy to any space in 2021.

Buffets Are Canceled

Goodbye buffets, hello plated meals. With smaller celebrations and safety concerns, buffet-style meals are a thing of the past. Plated meals are a great way to create a relaxed, stress-free, and intimate dining experience for your wedding guests. It’s also an excuse for over-the-top and unforgettable reception table setups.

Overlooked Wedding Dress Styles

With micro-weddings and elopement-styled ceremonies taking center stage in 2021 short wedding gowns—though often overlooked— are sure to give glamorous floor-length gowns a run for their money. 2021 is the year of planning with purpose—whether that purpose is practicality or unique style there is a short dress fit for everyone

Casual And Natural Hairstyles

There is beauty in simplicity—which rings true for both wedding fashion and wedding hairstyles. One trend that won’t be going away in 2021 is the easy, elegant, and classic curl. It’s a versatile hairstyle that can be easily dressed into any wedding style, with a veil or headpiece, and allows personality and natural beauty to radiate.

  1. Great post, would like to see some different hair textures in the casual and natural hair part of this post.

    • Hi Kayla, thanks for the comment! You’re right. We’re updating that section to be more inclusive of different hair textures.

  2. interesting colors promise to be this wedding season

  3. Great post :o Perfect wedding trends – nothing to add :)

  4. Perfect captured photos! I’m sure that your clients are satisfied with your service. However, I agree with “Less is More.” But it depends on the bride and groom. Some people want a small list of the guest while other want a large list of guests. Either way, a photographer can still deliver quality images.
