The Couple:

Gabriella and Michele

The Wedding:

Hjörleifshöfði, Iceland

Starting Their Ethereal Iceland Elopement with an Epic Ice Cave Adventure

The most memorable part of our wedding day was hiking through the Katla ice cave in our wedding dresses. It was an incredible experience to be walking on ice in such an epic setting, and the contrast of our dresses with the surroundings made it even more special. The adventure and unique location made the day unforgettable and the perfect way to start our marriage.

Achieving Understated Elegance with Black Accents and Natural Beauty

For our wedding day, incorporating black accents was vital to us, adding a touch of sophistication to our overall aesthetic. Gabriella wore a beautiful black veil, and the end result was a beautiful blend of understated elegance and personal style, allowing us to shine on our special day. We also wanted our looks to reflect our natural selves, so we opted for minimal makeup and braided hairstyles. We believe simplicity can be elegant and want to feel comfortable and authentic. Our stylist captured our vision perfectly. We shared inspirational pictures with her, focusing on soft, natural looks that complemented the stunning surroundings of Yoda Cave. The end result was a beautiful blend of understated elegance and personal style, allowing us to shine on our special day.

Embracing Iceland’s Natural Beauty for a Raw and Ethereal Ethereal Iceland Elopement Ceremony

Our wedding took place in a cave in Iceland, so the location’s natural beauty heavily influenced the vibe, style, and design. We wanted a raw, organic, and intimate feel, blending the dramatic surroundings with minimal decor. The cave’s textures and lighting created an ethereal atmosphere, and we added subtle touches—like candlelight and greenery—to enhance the space without overshadowing its natural charm. It felt like a magical, hidden world, perfectly reflecting the adventurous spirit of our relationship.

The Special Touch That Made Their Ceremony Unforgettable

One of the best surprises on our wedding day was when Michele arranged for a live musician to perform during the ceremony. Such an unexpected and personal touch made the moment even more special.

Trusting Your Wedding Planner is Vital

Our best wedding planning advice is to trust your wedding planners, especially if you’re working with someone as incredible as Pink Iceland. They truly made our vision come to life and took so much of the stress out of the process. Communicate what you want, then trust the experts to handle the details. Pink Iceland did a fantastic job with our unique wedding, and we couldn’t have asked for a better planner.

Transforming Their Wedding into an Unforgettable Adventure

We’re incredibly proud that we could give our families and friends a true adventure. Our wedding wasn’t just a ceremony—it was a journey. From the stunning landscapes of Iceland to the unique experience of a cave wedding, it was unlike anything most of our guests had ever done before. Many traveled from far away, and we wanted to make sure the trip was unforgettable for them, too. It was incredible to share such an extraordinary location and create lasting memories together in a way that went far beyond a typical wedding day.

Prioritizing Family and Connection

The most important aspects of planning our wedding were ensuring our family could all stay together, choosing the perfect location, and creating an adventure of a lifetime. We wanted the experience to feel connected and intimate, so having everyone together in one place was a priority. Skálakot Manor provided all of this; it was a beautiful and cozy place for everyone to stay and perfectly complemented the Icelandic landscape with its charm and elegance. The location was key—we wanted somewhere breathtaking and unique, and Iceland was perfect for that. Ultimately, we wanted our wedding to be more than just a day; we wanted it to be a memorable journey we could share with our loved ones.

Why They Chose Yoda Cave as Backdrop of Their Special Day

We chose Yoda Cave in Iceland as our wedding venue because of our shared love for caves and the breathtaking natural beauty that surrounds them. The cave’s unique formations and serene atmosphere create an enchanting backdrop that perfectly reflects our personalities and relationships. We wanted our special day to accurately represent who we are, and Yoda Cave offered us an unforgettable experience surrounded by nature’s splendor.

Elegant and Woodsy RT Lodge Wedding

October 27, 2024 | justine

Katrina and Nicholas envisioned an unforgettable wedding weekend with their closest family and friends, and they made it happen. They chose the natural beauty of RT Lodge as their setting, combining its rustic charm with elegant details and incredible food as the centerpiece. Their RT Lodge wedding was a perfect blend of woodsy elegance, filled with personal touches,  stunning decor, and florals that created an extraordinary and memorable celebration.

In the middle of a winding road surrounded by tall trees, the couple exchanged their vows, with beautiful flowers framing the special moment. After their woodland ceremony, the pair, being food lovers, chose to have a tented reception. They enjoyed a delicious meal at long tables decorated with low flower arrangements and candles, all set under a canopy of greenery and twinkling fairy lights.

The intimate details, thoughtful touches, and stunning landscape made their big day special. If you and your partner are dreaming of a celebration centered around nature, family, and delicious food, this is the perfect inspiration. Keep scrolling to explore every beautiful detail and unforgettable moment, all beautifully captured by Grace Torres Photo.

The Couple:

Katrina and Nicholas

The Wedding:

RT Lodge, Maryville, Tennessee

Creating Their Dream RT Lodge Wedding Experience

We took a road trip during our search, staying at four different venues and meeting with their wedding planners. RT Lodge was the last stop, and we knew right when we checked into our room that it felt like home. We are foodies, so food was essential to us. After a dinner with their renowned chef, Trevor Stockton, we knew we absolutely needed to have his food at our wedding. The cherry on top was our meeting the next day with our wedding planner. She was incredibly sweet and organized and catered to our every need. She showed us various options for ceremony locations, and I knew I wanted a unique place to hold the ceremony. RT Lodge’s “winding road” was charming and perfect. After our time at RT Lodge, we knew it was the perfect place to have our wedding.

How Their Venue Influenced Their Wedding Aesthetic

I’m a huge gardener, so I wanted the flowers to reflect what I love to grow. We chose a colorful arrangement of pinks, oranges, yellows, and a small splash of blue. The woods of RT Lodge also inspired the next steps in our wedding planning. The save-the-dates were engraved wooden magnets, and the invitations mirrored the color palette, featuring a personalized map of RT Lodge. We found rental shelves, couches, tables, chairs, gorgeous velvet green tablecloths, and crystal-patterned champagne glasses for our champagne tower. The setting of our cocktail hour was pure elegance, with florals, crystal glasses, charcuterie boards, and falling leaves from the Smoky Mountain trees. The escort cards were a DIY wooden holder and card that embodied the woodsy feel of RT Lodge, displayed on beautiful shelves in front of the koi pond. Allowing the venue to inspire us was the best way to create a cohesive wedding day.

Personal Stories Weaved Into Their Ceremony

We wanted a very intimate ceremony where our guests could truly dive into our love story and really understand who we were together and why we were getting married. Nick’s youth pastor served as our officiant, and we met with him several times before the wedding to discuss the ceremony sequence and content. He also met with us individually to gather personal stories about one another that he could incorporate. He began the ceremony by sharing these stories, reflecting on his experience watching Nick grow up, and finally, our love story. We asked my sister to be part of our ceremony by reading our favorite Bible verse, Romans 12:9-18. She’s always been a huge supporter of our relationship and sounding board as we fell in love. The best and most special part of our ceremony was our vows. We decided a few months before the wedding to write our own meaningful vows to each other. We both read our vows from our leather notebooks and at the end, we put our vows and a five-year note to one another into a custom wooden box. We also included a bottle of wine and our guests’ notes and nailed it shut.

Adding a Fun Twist with a Wedding Newspaper and Scratch-Off Surprises

We created a newspaper for the wedding with a scratch-off ticket attached. In the early days of our long-distance relationship, Nick would surprise me with a scratch-off every time we met, so we thought it would be a fun touch to include them in the celebration. At the end of the night, Nick and I discovered a stack of leftover scratch-offs and decided to scratch them off together. Our friends were surrounding us, so we had an incredible cheering squad. Unfortunately, there were no winners, but it was incredibly memorable as we scratched them off while signing our wedding paperwork.

The Importance of a Trustworthy Wedding Team

Hire a team that you trust so you can live your day to the fullest! Surround yourself with vendors and planners who understand your vision and can handle all the details, big and small. When you have confidence in your team, you won’t have to stress about timelines, setups, or last-minute changes. Instead, you can relax and truly immerse yourself in each moment, whether walking down the aisle, dancing with loved ones, or simply enjoying the atmosphere you’ve created. Being fully present without worrying will allow you to soak up all the joy and love of your special day, making it everything you’ve dreamed of and more.

Creating the Perfect Vibe with Reception Music and Serving Up Favorite Late-Night Snacks

One of the biggest compliments we received was about our reception music. We used a recommended DJ from our venue, and had several meetings with him before the event. We were very specific about what music we wanted to be played and provided him with “no” and “need to play” lists. This made sure the vibe of our night was spot on. The dance floor was packed all evening, and people partied the night away. After the reception, we hosted an after-party in the bar of RT Lodge. This was an incredible spot for our late-night guests to gather and continue the celebration. We served pizza rolls and chicken tenders, which are our favorite late-night snacks. They were a huge hit! Tailoring the wedding to what you both enjoy is incredibly important, creating a space you’ll love.

Transforming Their Celebration into a Vacation for Guests

We are most proud of the venue and how seamlessly the weekend flowed. Everything about our weekend conveyed a sense of elegant comfort. It was beautiful and luxurious but still refreshing. The staff at RT Lodge played a huge part in the weekend’s success. Since we had the whole venue for ourselves, each room, meal, and event was catered entirely to our needs. We wanted our wedding to be an incredible experience for our guests. We loved RT Lodge so much that we knew a destination wedding there would be worth it and wanted to show our guests how wonderful the location was. Once we found RT Lodge, we knew we wanted it to be an exclusive, weekend-long event where we could maximize our time with our guests. We hosted events from Friday night to Sunday morning, allowing us to see everyone much more than just the wedding day. Our guests swooned over the venue, the hiking trails, the food, and the cozy setting in the woods. Not only did they attend our wedding, but they truly had a vacation.

Unique and Thoughtful Wedding Favors

We arranged a few special favors for our guests. At the welcome party on Friday, we set out kettle corn for all of our guests. They packaged it beautifully, and our guests devoured it the first night. We handed out personalized newspapers that I designed and printed on authentic newsprint in London for the wedding day. We attached a scratch-off lottery ticket to all newspapers and a story in the paper explaining how, early in our long-distance relationship, Nick would always bring me a scratch-off. This became a fun tradition we shared each time we saw each other.

This Colorful Casa Aragón Wedding Had a Ceremony That Represented The Four Elements

Lina and Pablo’s Casa Aragón wedding was a vibrant, intimate celebration that broke away from traditional norms. With the help of Junebug vendor Flora Wedding Studio, they crafted a special day that truly reflected their personalities. Surrounded by close family and friends, their ceremony was deeply personal, symbolizing their journey through the four elements—fire, air, water, and earth—each stage marking a special moment of unity and love.

After the ceremony, Lina and Pablo’s guests enjoyed a lively cocktail hour with a Hawaiian band and fun games. Dinner followed, featuring a selection of local dishes and an informal toast from the couple. The dessert table offered unique twists on traditional Colombian treats. The party brought everything together, with a DJ playing ’90s and 2000s hits and neon decor highlighting the groom’s love for electronic music, creating a vibrant and unforgettable celebration.

If you’re looking for inspiration on how to infuse your personality and interests into every aspect of your celebration while maintaining a cohesive and elegant theme, this wedding is one to check out. The beautiful photos by Serendipity Storytellers perfectly capture the essence of their love story and the unforgettable day they created.

The Couple:

Lina and Pablo

The Wedding:

Casa Aragón, Colombia

How They Brought Their Casa Aragón Wedding To Life

Our wedding was intimate, with a few guests consisting of close family and friends. We wanted a relaxed style, something more colorful and alternative to a traditional cathedral wedding or boho style. Together with Flora Wedding Studio, we designed the wedding we had dreamed of, and they made it a reality. The decor reflected our personalities and tastes: vibrant colors, flowers, casual food, and party elements with retro games.

A Personalized Casa Aragón Wedding Ceremony Celebrating the Elements

The ceremony was deeply personalized. We designed it with our officiant, who guided us through four stages, each representing one of the four elements to unite us. First was fire, where we let go of anything that no longer served us or worked for us as individuals and as a couple. We wrote down those things and burned them in a small bonfire. Next came air, where we shared heartfelt words with our parents to thank them for everything they had done for us, acknowledging that from now on, the path ahead was entirely ours. Water followed, marked by a toast during which our groomsman and bridesmaid shared words of wisdom and well wishes. Finally, we reached earth, where we planted a small tree together as a symbol of the future we wish to cultivate. As a lighthearted touch, there was even a fifth element—love—which closed the ceremony. Both of us, along with our parents and closest friends, actively participated, making it a truly meaningful and unique experience.

A Vibrant Evening of Music, Games, and Local Cuisine

We then moved on to a cocktail hour with a Hawaiian band and different games for the guests. After that, we had dinner, where we gave an informal toast, and the guests enjoyed a selection of local dishes. The dessert table offered reinterpretations of Colombian desserts. Finally, at the party, everything came together: we enjoyed the music from the DJ, to whom we had specially requested songs from the ’90s and 2000s, along with neon decor in honor of the groom’s love for electronic music.

A Festive Night with Mexican Vibes and Custom Cocktails

We both love tacos, but the groom especially, since he was born in Mexico. Because of this, there were also some nods to Mexican culture, like the DJ’s backing in neon light (Amor & Tacos), some of the food, and a piñata at the party. One of the main attractions was the bar, where cocktails and drinks inspired by our dogs were freely served throughout the night. The Bailey Mule (our twist on the Moscow Mule) glasses were specially made for this day, adding a personal and fun touch to the celebration.

Polaroid Memories and Thoughtful Table Décor

During the cocktail hour, dinner, and party, we used Polaroid cameras to capture our guests’ unique moments and special memories. It was a fun and spontaneous way to document the day and create tangible memories for everyone. One of the things that best captured the vibe and essence of who I am was the table décor: the flowers, the numbers, and the plates. Everything was carefully designed to reflect my style and personality, making that part of the wedding especially meaningful to me.

The Importance of Choosing Your Wedding Planner Early

Choose your wedding planner as soon as possible and, ideally, work together to co-create what you want. Don’t leave it for the last minute like we did! I feel like I chose all the vendors in a random order. Thankfully, Jessica, the founder of Flora Wedding Studio, came into our lives, helped us organize everything we had, and brought our vision to life quickly. We also recommend that you participate in co-creating concepts and making mood boards with your wedding planner if you enjoy the creative process. It will help you visualize your expectations and communicate your dreams clearly.

Intimate Japanese Creek Wedding Inspired by The Sea

October 15, 2024 | justine

Kelsa and Wolf knew from the start they wanted something small and meaningful for their big day. Kelsa, a fourth-generation Alaskan with saltwater in her veins—her great-grandfather ran the mailboat in the ’50s—has spent her life on boats, deeply connected to the ocean. When they got engaged in the spring of 2023, their shared love for Southeast Alaska made a Japanese Creek wedding the perfect choice. Surrounded by nature and the people they love most, they embraced earthy tones of blue and brown to create an intimate and unforgettable celebration.

Their day began with an exciting ferry ride to the ceremony location. With the stunning coastline and a rustic arch as their backdrop, they exchanged vows in a scene straight out of a dream. Afterward, they took breathtaking portraits surrounded by nature’s beauty. That evening, they celebrated with an intimate reception at a cozy lodge. The bride’s brothers and sister-in-law played live music for the guests, creating a warm and personal atmosphere. To top it all off, a family friend made a beautiful traditional Norwegian wedding cake and shared it with everyone at the end of a truly magical day.

The vibe was off the charts, and the fashion was on point. The bride turned heads in a velvet blue dress, while the groom looked dashing in his earthy-toned suit. And their wedding party perfectly matched their stylish flair. If you’re envisioning a cozy, romantic celebration with salty air and a burst of personality, let the stunning details captured by Junebug vendor The Hitched Hiker inspire you!

The Couple:

Kelsa and Wolf

The Wedding:

Japanese Creek, Alaska, United States

Tying the Knot at a Place Close to Grandpa’s Heart

We got married near a creek that my grandpa used as a reference point for shrimp. He passed away right after we announced our engagement, so it meant a lot to be able to get married at a place he knew so well. My uncle was our officiant, and we both wrote our own personal vows and read them to each other in front of our loved ones.

Mixing Nordic Charm with Alaskan Blues at Their Intimate Japanese Creek Wedding

Living on a small island of 3,500 people in Southeast Alaska, I was limited when it came to vendors. But with the help of friends and family, the whole day came together beautifully and, indeed, it was the fairytale wedding of our dreams. If I had to describe the style for the wedding, I would say it was Nordic/Viking-inspired while incorporating Alaskan blues and textures. My inspiration was mixing a bunch of different things that I loved. I wanted to have the feel of a vintage wedding out in the wild but with a modern twist. I also knew that I wanted a unique dress, so I chose blue. The ocean and mountains near Petersburg are so beautiful I wanted colors that could pair and blend with them. Having Alaskan colors incorporated into my wedding day was very important to me.

A Low-Tide Japanese Creek Wedding Ceremony and Cozy Reception with Live Music

The ceremony was the main highlight, as everything worked out perfectly. The groom and guests left early on a boat to the beach where we were getting married. They set up the benches and arch before my boat arrived. The tide worked perfectly in our favor (we had planned for low tide but hadn’t actually seen this particular beach at low tide, so we crossed our fingers it wasn’t too muddy), and the beach created the perfect natural ‘aisle’ to walk up. The second highlight would have to be the intimate reception later in the evening. My brothers and I, along with my sister-in-law, played live music for the guests and my husband. A family friend made us a beautiful traditional Norwegian wedding cake to share at the end of the evening.

How Colors and Textures Came Together on Their Japanese Creek Wedding Day

I was most proud of how well everything came together. Most of the wedding planning was done while I was working on a commercial fishing boat, so seeing everything together didn’t happen until the wedding day. My wedding dress was a mermaid cut (being that I call myself a mermaid because of how much time I spend on the water, this was a must), and the style/color of the dress and its surroundings were epic. I will always be proud of how well our ceremony’s colors and textures came together. One of my main focuses was choosing colors and locations that would look beautiful when photographed. From the start, I knew I wanted timeless-looking wedding photos on my wall, so I set out to make that happen. Choosing my bridesmaid dresses, men’s turtlenecks (instead of suits), and flowers all played a significant role in the overall look and feel of the day. I also had a dress code for the guests in attendance, which helped everyone blend well together when it came to group and family photos.

Prioritizing a Photographer and Personal Touches on a Small Budget

Our wedding budget was small, but the most important thing to me was hiring a photographer who could capture the true essence of our wedding. Because of this, I knew I wanted Alexa to capture our big day, and we planned everything around her availability. Living in a small rural community, I had to order almost everything online. Etsy was amazing; all the flowers, wedding dresses, and bridesmaids’ dresses came from there. By keeping the wedding small, we could cut back on many costs, which allowed us to invest more in things like a professional photographer, boats to shuttle us to our ceremony location, and a caterer for the reception. Our budget was under $15,000, which included the wedding dress, photographer, shuttle boats, food, and decorations. Finding a custom wedding dress for under $1,000 is difficult but not impossible. After reaching out to many seamstresses via Etsy, I finally found one who was willing and able to make my dream dress come to life. We used all disposable place settings for the reception to cut costs and provide our own protein (Halibut), which my family caught on our family boat, the Saga. Because of that, we only had to pay for the caterer’s time and the side dishes. By doing all our planning and decorating, we were able to cut a decent amount of costs. We also used all dried flowers, which substantially helped lower the cost.

Transforming the Old Cannery into a Dream Wedding Venue

Petersburg is extremely limited in venue locations, but I knew I wanted something for the ceremony that worked with our theme for the day. I wanted a rustic and intimate setting, and the Beachcomber Lodge was perfect for that, as it used to be a cannery years ago. In the past 20 years, it has been used as a restaurant on and off, so a working kitchen was perfect for our caterer. Though the establishment is currently unused, we reached out to Amber Burrell (the owner) and asked if we could rent it for the day. She said yes, so we set up tables and decorated them to emphasize the rustic qualities.

The Importance of a Timeline: Essential Advice for Brides on Their Wedding Day

We recommend having  a timeline (even a rough one) to follow for the day. As a bride and a photographer myself, this would be at the top of my advice list. Referring to a timeline was helpful throughout the day, especially when you have pre-wedding nerves, and your brain has many other things to consider. That being said, being flexible and understanding that life happens is just as vital. Sometimes, you won’t always be able to follow the timeline to a T, which is perfectly okay, too! Being able to be flexible is huge.

This Intimate Peter Pan Bistro Wedding Was the Definition of Cozy

October 7, 2024 | justine

Jenn and Matthew’s Peter Pan Bistro wedding was a cozy, sentimental affair focused on community, delicious food, and timeless elegance. Opting for a late fall event, they drew inspiration from autumn walks, fondue parties, and intimate gatherings with friends. Prioritizing a small guest list and simple logistics, they skipped a wedding party and chose the charming Toronto restaurant for the evening. With DIY touches, mismatched secondhand decor, and a warm color palette, their big day was a perfect blend of personal memories and classic romance.

The couple selected a charming 1980s heritage building, an ideal backdrop for their day. After officially tying the knot at Guelph City Hall the day before, they held a symbolic ceremony framed by stunning fall florals and stained glass windows. The seamless transition to the reception welcomed guests into a cozy and inviting atmosphere, where tables were beautifully decorated with lush blooms and glowing candlelight, setting the stage for a truly intimate and magical evening.

These stunning images, captured by Junebug vendor Jennifer See Studios, beautifully showcase the love and joy that filled their wedding. As you scroll through, you’ll discover unique fall ideas for creating your own seasonal celebration.

The Couple:

Jenn and Matthew

The Wedding:

Peter Pan Bistro, Toronto, Canada

Incorporating Meaningful Items into Their Peter Pan Bistro Wedding

In keeping with our personal values of reusing and incorporating meaningful items, we designed our rings by reworking an inherited ring set. My outfit included lace from the dress my mom and baba wore, and I also wore some of their jewelry. Matthew wore a navy suit and tie he already owned, only treating himself to a new pair of socks.

Navigating Legalities and Embracing a Symbolic Ceremony

The day before, we went to Guelph City Hall with our parents to take care of the legalities. We surprised them by sharing vows we had written for them. We decided to have a symbolic ceremony on the day, with a close family friend officiating. He’s a great storyteller and always knows how to make us laugh. Both ceremonies reflected a humanist perspective, and we wrote our own vows, which made them very special. It was a full expression of who we are and included surprises for each other.

How Their Florist Brought Their Peter Pan Bistro Wedding Decor Vision to Life

Once we visited Peter Pan Bistro, the vibe of the upstairs event space and the main floor restaurant was exactly what we were looking for. The historical building perfectly blended the outside with the inside in an elegant yet understated way. With its fantastic bar, cozy booths on the main floor, stained glass, fireplace upstairs, and tall punched tin ceiling, it felt right for a big dinner party on a cozy winter night. The florist played a crucial role in bringing our vision to life. With all the venue’s character, we focused primarily on florals for our decor. Mackenzie of Fable Floral Design embraced our ideas, incorporating mushrooms and a mix of secondhand bud vases we could send home with guests. She also managed candles and rentals, making it a one-stop shop for us. Her recommendations for linen rentals for napkins and runners helped create a cohesive and streamlined decor plan.

Overcoming Design Challenges with DIY Solutions

The card box was a collaborative DIY project. We discovered a traveling card box shaped like a charming little wooden house used at numerous weddings and events across the province. Made by someone’s aunt, it was sturdy and unique enough to be shared. We added our decorations, giving the “Just Married” bunting a fresh twist by labeling it “A Life Event,” as we affectionately referred to our milestone. We also used a digital pack from Pulp Templates Company on Etsy to design our menus and print signage. This creative outlet was enjoyable, and the user-friendly WYSIWYG online editing tool made it much more accessible, especially after facing challenges with Adobe Illustrator for our original e-invites.

Creating Lasting Memories with Friends and Family

Walking into the space and seeing all the flowers set up for dinner was unforgettable. We were in awe, smiling at how the dreamy atmosphere made all the effort worthwhile. It truly felt like a special day, and everyone looked fantastic. Although we didn’t rehearse the first dance, we had always known the song “Postcards from Italy” by Beirut. Riding the day’s high, we spun and swayed together, smiling the whole time. The banter between our dear friend who attended the event and the family members and friends who gave speeches was hilarious. The smaller, more intimate vibe made it feel even more meaningful.

The Power of Asking: Finding Flexibility in Planning

Whether it’s about timing, extra cleanup, sound equipment, or bar menu options, you might find more flexibility than you expect; though it may come with a cost, all you have to do is ask. Many items, like event chairs and candles, are priced as if you want everything to match or be brand new. If that’s not a priority for you, plenty of simple and less wasteful alternatives are available. Be sure to explore reuse boards and marketplaces for unique finds. Regarding accessibility, while we loved our venue, the layout across two floors was complicated, especially with only a long flight of stairs and no elevator. Fortunately, there were washrooms on the second floor with the event space. We also chose to skip many traditional elements. We received helpful advice to start with a blank slate and build up what you want rather than feeling like you’re subtracting things.

Why a Peter Pan Bistro Wedding Was the Right Choice

We chose a restaurant for our wedding to ensure high food and drink quality while accommodating dietary restrictions and allergies. Supporting a restaurant after the COVID shutdown was vital, but we were cautious about potential closures and focused on established venues. Some places we considered could only accommodate 40 guests or fewer, so we adjusted our search for venues that could fit 60 to 75 for a seated dinner within that number. We appreciated that the location was transit accessible and relatively central, although the final-mile traffic did create some challenges on a Saturday evening. The building’s history and the restaurant’s charm ultimately won us over, especially after enjoying a delicious meal on our first visit, which included a savory truffle crème brûlée appetizer. We also liked that the event menus featured unique options, including excellent gluten-free and vegetarian choices.

Enhancing the Tablescape with Forest-Inspired Favors that Doubles as Decor

To enhance the tablescape, we gave out beeswax candles in various forest-inspired shapes, such as pine cones, morel mushrooms, and delicate lotus-like droplets. Our goal was to offer a consumable, local product that was easy for our guests to transport.

Colorful Blue and Red Chiesa Del Carmine Destination Wedding

October 4, 2024 | justine

Allison and Andrew found their wedding venue in the most unexpected way. The bride struck up a conversation with a stranger, who casually recommended the place. Since they got engaged in Italy, it just felt right. Call it fate, but it turned out to be the perfect choice. Set in an 11th-century garden estate with soft blue and red tones and the stunning Italian countryside as their backdrop—their Chiesa del Carmine destination wedding was truly a dream come true.

Their vibrant garden ceremony, officiated by Junebug vendor Tuscan Pledges, was a beautiful start to the day. The celebration continued with a garden reception that stayed perfectly on theme, featuring blue linens, blue florals, and blue table settings, creating a stunning and cohesive look throughout.

If you’re dreaming of a wedding filled with lush greenery and blooming flowers, you’ll love these breathtaking photos by Kristine Grinvalde. This celebration is packed with inspiration, making it a must-see for anyone planning the perfect garden wedding.

How Blue Became the Heart of Their Chiesa Del Carmine Destination Wedding Theme

The hardest part of wedding planning was decision fatigue, and picking an overall design was challenging because the options and possibilities were endless. I have always loved the color blue and knew I wanted to incorporate it into the design; I just had no idea how exactly. I did an initial mood board on Pinterest, sent it to my excellent wedding planners, and then let them take the lead on the design. They sent me two beautiful design options, and I went with the blue and red color scheme. This was a significant risk for me because I was nervous it wouldn’t be traditional enough, but the more we planned, the more I fell in love with it.

The Bride’s Journey to a Timeless Wedding Look

I really wanted a timeless wedding wardrobe. The wedding dress was a true labor of love. Picking out my wedding dress was my number one priority when planning: the hardest thing I did but the most fun part of the wedding planning process. After seeing their embroidered lace, I fell in love with the designer Reem Acra. Their fabrics are unique yet timeless, and I knew I wanted to be a Reem Acra bride! Having a June wedding in the Italian countryside complicated things because I knew I would be dealing with warm temperatures, but I still wanted the timeless look of long sleeves and a high neck. I also wanted the versatility of removable sleeves, and being comfortable on my wedding day was another huge priority. So we customized it. I chose the Mexico dress by Reem Acra. It had a low illusion, so I changed it to a corset. We also lined the bodice and added fabric to the cups. But the most stunning customization is the removable bolero that Dimitra’s Bridal Couture made custom for me. We bought the matching fabric from the designer, and the Dimitras team handled the rest to give me my dream two dresses. I can’t thank the teams I worked with enough, and I couldn’t love this dress anymore. I also love that I can keep the bolero forever and wear it on anniversaries to come.

A Heartfelt Tribute: How a Vintage Alfa Romeo Honored Their Fathers

We will always cherish many moments, but we loved the vintage Alfa Romeo we rented. Both of our fathers were really big into cars and worked in the automotive industry in Michigan. Cars have always been a big part of our lives, as we would go on drives in sports cars with our dads or help them work on the cars in the garage. This was a fun way to incorporate both of our dads who couldn’t attend, have a great photo opportunity after the ceremony, and enjoy part of the day with just us as a couple.

Why Trusting Your Vendor Team Makes All the Difference

Our advice to couples: take some deep breaths! Wedding planning truly can be so stressful because of the commitment involved. A motto I always say is to trust the experts. Hire great wedding planners, select trustworthy vendors, and let them do what they do best. Especially your photographer and makeup artist, book the vendors where you love their work and let them take it from there. Trusting vendors and giving them freedom to do what they do best is so essential to making everything run smoothly. If you are trying to change or direct what a vendor typically does, you aren’t selecting the right one for your special day.

How a Random Conversation Led to the Wedding Venue of Their Dreams

In March of 2023, we had been engaged for nine months already and had no idea what we were going to do for a wedding and where. We were skiing in Breckenridge and decided to go to Vail for the day. Andrew is a much better skier than I am so I decided to take the day off and head to a spa while he skied. There was a woman in the locker room that I talked with, asking her about what services she had done. We were talking, and she asked if I had just gotten engaged. I told her that we had been engaged since June 2022, and we had gotten engaged in Italy. We were considering a wedding back in Italy. She immediately recommended Chiesa del Carmine, where she stayed for a family vacation. We looked into the venue/villa that night and booked our wedding date a week later.

This Alaskan Elopement Theme Was “Coffee for a Lifetime” and We Couldn’t Love it More

October 2, 2024 | justine

Ayla and Jake’s Alaskan elopement was simple and meaningful, just like their relationship. After getting engaged, they imagined different places for their wedding but realized the perfect spot was right in front of them—on the bluff where they live in Wasilla, Alaska. With stunning views of the inlet and mountains and a place they often visited for adventures and sunsets, it felt right. They wanted to say their vows somewhere they could see every day, sipping coffee together, and they made it happen in the most beautiful way.

The couple started their day in their cozy home, sharing breakfast and coffee. Their closest family gathered to send them off, and during the ceremony, they exchanged vows by the fire, surrounded by a few of their favorite people as witnesses. The day ended with everyone they loved gathered in their living room, eating cake and popping champagne, as the house filled with love and joy, marking the start of their new life together as husband and wife.

Their intimate elopement came together easily, full of love, and now they can always return to the place where they promised forever. If you dream of saying “I do” in a stunning, secluded spot surrounded by breathtaking scenery, check out these gorgeous photos captured by the talented Junebug vendor Chelsa Jay.

Celebrating Forever Right in Their Snowy Backyard: How Their Alaskan Elopement Came To Be

After we got engaged, we imagined different places for the ceremony—a mountaintop or the spot of our first date. But then we realized the perfect place had been right in front of us all along. Living on a bluff in Wasilla, Alaska, our front porch looks out onto the inlet and a majestic mountain view. A few months before the wedding, Jake started taking snow machine trips to the inlet, where we’d have fires, enjoy sunset views, and spend time together with our little family. We knew this was where we wanted to promise our lives to each other—a place we could visit often and see every morning while sipping coffee in our living room. Our intimate elopement came together effortlessly, filled with joy and love. We’re grateful to reminisce and visit the exact spot where we said our vows whenever we like. The theme of our ceremony, officiated by a dear friend, was “coffee for a lifetime.” We wanted to make the moment last forever, and what better place than our own front yard? That’s right—our small wedding took place just a three-minute snowmobile ride from our porch. Surrounded by close family and friends, we left the rest of the world behind, if only for the night. Our tiny “backyard wedding” came together with a little family, a few friends, and lots of love!

Embracing Their New Family with Vows, Promises, and a Shared Future

During our ceremony, we exchanged vows while cozied up by the fire, surrounded by a few of our favorite people. We spoke from the heart, focusing on creating a strong foundation for our marriage, family, and future children. I surprised Jake by not only sharing my vows with him but also making promises to his daughter, Alma. Jake then placed a ring engraved with Alma’s name on my finger. At that moment, our little family of three became one.

How Their First Dance Song Became a Special Tribute to Their Baby Boy

“Banks” by Needtobreathe was our first dance song and holds an incredibly special meaning for us. Now, we enjoy our morning coffee with our precious 5-month-old baby boy, Banks LJ Wade. Even before we met him, he was a part of our wedding day. There’s something so special about cozying up with your fiancé on a snow machine as you ride out to get married. We were truly living the moments we had both been praying for.

Personalized Moments and Cherished Memories at Their Alaskan elopement

We’re most proud that throughout the process, we stayed focused on each other and our love, making the day even more perfect than we’d dreamed. The smiles, the flower crown, and how all the little moments came together were just incredible. After our elopement at the inlet, we walked up the stairs into our living room to be greeted by our parents, who watched the ceremony through binoculars and welcomed us with deep, thankful hearts. We celebrated together with a toast. Every detail of our wedding was personalized; even the unplanned moments felt like signs that we had truly found our forever in each other.

A Perfect Ending to Their Intimate Alaskan Elopement

We woke up in our cozy home and shared breakfast and coffee before our intimate elopement, which was just a short distance away. One of our closest friends officiated the ceremony and also did Ayla’s makeup and hair in our living room, which overlooks the inlet where we got married. Our closest family gathered to see us off, and our parents were waiting at home for us after we exchanged our vows. When we returned, we celebrated in our living room, enjoying cake and champagne. Our home was filled with love and joy as we began our new life together as husband and wife.

Sultry Avant-Garde Thompson Hotel Dallas Wedding

September 28, 2024 | kailey

Dani and Adam were on a mission to create a modern, moody vibe that stood out from the rest. After going through 20 different designs and color ideas, they finally found the perfect fit—bold shades of red, which felt just right for their January wedding. With the help of their amazing vendors, they brought their vision to life, transforming their Thompson Hotel Dallas wedding into a stunning, sultry, avant-garde celebration.

They chose the hotel for its sleek, modern design and flexible spaces that could be totally personalized. The clean, elegant venue was the perfect canvas for their dream wedding. Their ceremony featured a stunning mirrored chuppah decked out in bold florals, while the reception was a striking mix of black, gold, and red. Towering candles and vibrant blooms set the mood, and a black-and-white checkered dance floor added the perfect touch for an unforgettable night.

If your dream wedding is all about modern elegance, bold sophistication, and artistic flair, then this is the inspiration you’ve been looking for. These stunning photos, taken by Junebug vendor Laning Photography, perfectly capture the incredible day they poured their hearts into creating.

Bridal Fashion Done Right: A Tale of Two Dresses and Four Pairs of Shoes

My wedding day looks were incredibly fun! I had two dresses and four different pairs of shoes. I got my wedding dress at Kleinfeld Bridal, which was so special because my mom got her dress there over 25 years ago. I went with my maid of honor and my mom’s maid of honor, and it was such a special moment for all of us. My second dress was a super fun party dress from Nadine Merabi. For shoes, I wore Gianvito Rossi for the ceremony, red Mach & Mach heels for our reception entrance and first dance, Nike for comfort, and Tony Bianco shoes with the party dress.

A Meaningful Thompson Hotel Dallas Wedding Ceremony Under a Beautifully Adorned Chuppah

For our ceremony, we had a beautiful chuppah adorned with flowers and draping over the top. My childhood Rabbi officiated, using a wine cup from both my family and Adam’s. The Rabbi had known both of our families for years, so it was incredibly meaningful to have him perform the marriage blessing for us.

Why Hiring a Planner Made All the Difference for This Couple

We hired a planner to help us with the wedding from start to finish, and it was amazing. They took so much off our plate, especially in the week and day leading up to the wedding. I highly recommend getting a planner at least for the final month so you don’t have to stress as much! Make sure to really soak in the small moments—they go by so fast.

A Thompson Hotel Dallas Wedding Reception Transformation

We didn’t fully know what the room would look like. We knew the layout and the colors, but we had no idea just how grand it would actually turn out. When we walked into the reception space, our jaws dropped—we were blown away by the design and the elaborate florals. Watching our guests walk in and seeing their jaws drop too was an incredible moment. To this day, we still receive compliments on the flowers from our reception and ceremony. Not only were they impressive, but our florist did an incredible job setting them up and getting super creative. I’m also proud of how smoothly everything went. I tend to stress about all the little details, but the day went off without a hitch—from getting ready in the morning to our first look, wedding party photos, ceremony, reception, and exit. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfectly executed day.

Aerialist Entertainment and Unique Wedding Details That Wow Guests

We surprised our guests with an aerialist performance as soon as they walked into the reception space. Dressed in a sparkly red outfit that perfectly matched the room’s vibe, she provided fantastic entertainment that had everyone buzzing. Our guests even compared it to a Cirque du Soleil show! For the engaged couples in attendance, we gave out champagne bottles with custom labels that read, “Congratulations, you’re next!” Our seating chart was a fun dog-themed affair, with table numbers displayed on little tennis balls that guests loved taking home for their pets. Instead of a traditional cake, we opted for cookies and ice cream sandwiches from Pokey O’s Cookies & Ice Cream, which was a huge hit. We also made sure to keep the energy high by having Nightowl Coffee available all night so everyone could keep dancing with us.

Hawaii is a dream destination for many couples looking to combine their wedding with a tropical getaway. With its stunning landscapes, vibrant culture, and unparalleled beauty, it’s no wonder that Hawaii is a top choice for couples seeking a memorable and picturesque wedding experience.

There’s a lot that goes into wedding planning, especially if you’re hosting a destination celebration, which is why we’re breaking down everything you need to know about having a spectacular Hawaiian wedding—from choosing the right island and understanding local customs to savoring delicious island cuisine and ensuring legal requirements are met.

Choosing the Perfect Island for Your Hawaii Wedding

Oahu

Known as “The Gathering Place,” Oahu is the most populated island and home to Honolulu, the state capital. It’s a perfect blend of city life and natural beauty. Waikiki Beach, famous for its iconic views and bustling atmosphere, is ideal for a lively wedding. For a more serene setting, consider the North Shore, with its stunning beaches and laid-back vibe.

While there, explore historic sites like Pearl Harbor, hike to Diamond Head for panoramic views, or enjoy shopping and dining in Honolulu.

Maui

Often dubbed “The Valley Isle,” Maui is renowned for its luxury resorts, stunning beaches, and scenic drives. Wailea offers high-end resorts and beautiful beaches, while Kaanapali is known for its picturesque coastline.

Some can’t-be-missed highlights include driving the Road to Hana for breathtaking views, visiting Haleakalā National Park for sunrise or sunset, and enjoying whale watching during the winter months.

Kauai

Kauai is the oldest and most lush island, offering dramatic landscapes and a more tranquil experience. The Na Pali Coast provides stunning backdrops, while botanical gardens like Limahuli Garden & Preserve offer a serene setting. Hanalei Bay is also a popular choice for its natural beauty.

Spend your downtime exploring Waimea Canyon, taking a boat tour along the Na Pali Coast, or enjoy the countless hiking trails that offer breathtaking views.

Big Island (Hawaii)

The Big Island is known for its volcanic terrain, black sand beaches, and lush rainforests. Kona offers beautiful beaches and luxury resorts, while Hilo is known for its lush scenery and waterfalls. Consider incorporating views of the Kilauea volcano for a dramatic backdrop.

Thanks to its extremely diverse landscapes, Hawaii offers a wide variety of things to do, including visiting Volcanoes National Park, exploring the black sand beaches of Punalu’u, and taking a stargazing tour at Mauna Kea.

Lanai

Lanai is an exclusive and luxurious island known for its high-end resorts and pristine beaches. Resorts like Four Seasons provide luxurious settings with stunning ocean views. Not only was she our officiant, but she really was an open-minded sounding board for all of our ideas and was so experienced. She really helped take the edge off for us with her easy going and personable demeanor. You can really tell how much she cares about each of the couples she works with. If you are looking for an officiant with the best energy, she is your gal. I honestly cant say enough good things about her! 100/10”

Local Customs and Traditions

Incorporating Hawaiian customs can make your wedding deeply meaningful and culturally rich. If this is something you’re interested in, these are a couple of things you can include:

Lei Ceremony

The lei ceremony is a cherished Hawaiian tradition where the bride and groom exchange floral garlands as a symbol of love, respect, and the spirit of aloha. Leis can be crafted from various flowers, such as plumeria, orchids, or even seashells.

Hawaiian Blessings

A Hawaiian blessing, or oli, involves chants and rituals to honor the land and the couple. This can be performed by a local kahuna (priest) or cultural practitioner. This blessing can provide a spiritual and cultural connection to Hawaii, integrating traditional practices into your wedding ceremony.

Koa Wood Decor

Koa wood is a valuable native Hawaiian material often used in furniture and crafts. Incorporating koa wood into your wedding décor–such as in centerpieces or table settings–honors local craftsmanship and traditions. Consider making custom koa wood items, such as engraved plaques or decorative pieces, to add a personal touch to your wedding.

Navigating Legal Requirements

Marriage License

You can obtain a marriage license from any Hawaii state marriage license office. Both parties must be present, and you don’t need to be a resident of Hawaii. Hawaii also has no waiting period, so you can marry immediately once you have your license.

Both parties must provide valid identification, such as a driver’s license or passport. If previously married, you’ll need to provide the date of dissolution of the last marriage.

Officiant Requirements

Your officiant must be authorized to perform weddings in Hawaii. This includes religious leaders, judges, or registered officiants through the State of Hawaii. Make sure your chosen officiant is legally recognized to perform the ceremony.

Local Cuisine and Drinks

Poke

Poke is a traditional Hawaiian dish made with diced raw fish, often tuna, marinated in soy sauce, sesame oil, and other seasonings. It’s typically served over rice and can be customized with various toppings. Serve it as a fresh and light appetizer or part of a seafood-focused dinner.

Kalua Pig

Kalua pig is traditionally cooked in an imu, an underground oven, which gives it a distinctive smoky flavor. The pork is tender and flavorful, making it a popular choice for a traditional Hawaiian feast–it is usually the main star of a luau, after all.

Loco Moco

Loco moco is a comforting dish that features a hamburger patty served over rice, topped with a fried egg, and smothered in gravy. It’s a hearty and satisfying option for a casual reception. It tends to be enjoyed for breakfast, so if you’re having a brunch wedding, this can be a great menu item to include.

Shaved Ice

No matter what island you visit, you’ll find countless shaved ice stands. It’s a delicious treat that helps you keep cool and is easy to personalize. To include the sweet treat on your big day, consider bringing in a shaved ice truck to enjoy while your guests are dancing the night away.

Mai Tai

The Mai Tai is a classic Hawaiian cocktail made with rum, lime juice, orgeat syrup, and a combination of fruit juices. It’s a tropical favorite that pairs well with the island setting, making it the perfect choice as a signature cocktail.

Entertainment and Activities

Hawaiian Luau

Embrace the Hawaiian culture with a traditional luau featuring hula dancers, fire performers, and a meal of island delicacies. It’s a vibrant way to celebrate and share the local culture while keeping your guests entertained during the reception.

Live Island Music

Set the mood with live Hawaiian music. Whether it’s the soothing sounds of slack-key guitar or lively ukulele tunes, local musicians can provide the perfect soundtrack for your special day.

Sunset Cruise

If your wedding is smaller, treat your guests to a romantic sunset cruise. It’s a spectacular way to soak in the breathtaking views and celebrate your union with the ocean as your backdrop. It makes for the perfect cocktail hour while your vendors prepare your space for your reception.

DIY Bars

Engage your guests with interactive Hawaiian workshops like lei-making or traditional Hawaiian crafts. It’s a great way to add a personal touch to your wedding festivities, and their crafts make for a great wedding favor.

Weather Considerations

Hawaii’s tropical climate is generally favorable, but it’s important to be prepared. The rainy season typically runs from November to March and varies based on the islands. For example, Kauai is known to be one of the rainiest places on Earth, whereas The Big Island is usually dry and sunny. While showers are often brief, it’s wise to have a backup plan for outdoor events.

Of course, the islands are also very sunny, so it’s crucial to ensure that you and your guests stay hydrated, especially if your wedding is outdoors. Provide plenty of water and shade options, and encourage guests to use sunscreen to protect against sunburn.

Practical Tips for Planning

To ensure a smooth and enjoyable wedding experience, consider the following practical tips:

  • Booking – Book flights and accommodations well in advance to secure the best rates and availability. Look for packages that include both travel and lodging for added convenience.
  • Guest Accommodations – Consider arranging group rates or blocks of rooms at nearby hotels for your guests to simplify travel arrangements.
  • Choosing Vendors – Collaborate with local vendors who are familiar with the island’s unique logistics and venues. Their expertise will be invaluable, especially if you’re not a local yourself.
  • Scheduling – If you have guests traveling from different time zones, plan your wedding schedule with their comfort in mind. Allow time for acclimatization and consider time zone differences when scheduling events.
  • Communication – Keep guests informed about the itinerary and any time zone changes to avoid confusion. You can do this easily on your invites or your wedding website.

By embracing local customs and carefully planning every detail, you can create a wedding experience that reflects the spirit of Hawaii and celebrates your love in a truly unforgettable way. If you’re looking to host a beach wedding and are concerned about logistics, don’t fret. We’re breaking down everything you need to know! And, of course, check out our vetted directory of high-quality wedding vendors in Hawaii to ensure your wedding is the day of your dreams!

This Adventurous Yosemite Elopement Was a Nod to the Beginning of the Couple’s Relationship

September 13, 2024 | justine

Madhura and Veer’s adventurous Yosemite elopement began with a funny twist. In 2018, while hiking Lower Yosemite Falls, Veer fell and broke his elbow, leading him to stay with Madhura for a month. During that time, they realized they were in love. As photographers, they returned to Yosemite many times, and one night, while watching a meteor shower from Glacier Point, they imagined their wedding under the stars. That vision became reality on their big day—the peak night of the meteor shower—making their elopement truly magical.

With the iconic El Capitan as their backdrop, they exchanged vows in the valley. Just as the ceremony ended, it began to rain—adding a touch of good luck to their day! Instead of letting it dampen their spirits, they embraced the moment and had their first dance in the rain. Later, they headed to Glacier Point for sunset photos, where they were greeted by thunderstorms that made for some incredible wedding shots. They chose this day mainly to witness a meteor shower, but with cloudy skies, their hopes were low. However, as they reflected on the day’s events, the sky cleared, revealing an amazing star show just for them.

From the bride’s classic yet sophisticated dress and the groom’s distinctive brown suit to the earthy tones of the wedding party and the organic, locally sourced guest favors, every element harmonized with the mountain setting and the natural colors of one of the most breathtaking locations in the U.S. Captured beautifully by Dani Purington, these photos will inspire you to start your new life together with a truly unforgettable adventure.

DIY Magic and Heartfelt Moments at Their Adventurous Yosemite Elopement

We had two weddings; one was this elopement, and another was an Indian wedding in Jaipur, India. Since we already have a huge planning team for our Indian wedding, we thought it would be so cool if we did everything by ourselves for this elopement. I DIYed and curated locally sourced wedding favors. Our officiant was my childhood best friend. She crafted such a personal and moving ceremony that blew us away. We wrote our own vows, and reciting those vows to one another under El Capitan was incredibly touching. Our friends, who are also photographers Anindita, Neeraj, and Rahul, captured all the photos and videos this entire weekend. Our photographer for the ceremony was Dani Purington. I have been following her for so long that I knew only she could do justice to capturing the aesthetics and emotions we wanted for this special day. Our friends Nikhil and Saarish played and sang “Can’t Help Falling in Love with You” for Veer’s entry. I had selected my wedding entry song ever since I was a kid. I entered to my Maid of Honor Anindita singing “Thousand Years” while our friend Manny played the guitar live.

Handcrafted Invitations and Meaningful Details

Our invites were extra special as they were made by an artist, especially for our big day. All the paintings in the invite were made from the pictures we’ve taken in Yosemite over the years. We used to write each other handwritten letters during our long-distance relationship. That’s why we incorporated that fun routine into our invites. It also had a postcard, which guests had to mark yes or no for their RSVP and mail to the couple. Our wedding cake was made by a local Yosemite baker who matched it perfectly to our color palette. Our vows books were customized with Yosemite Peaks designs. My wedding shoes had this written on them – “something blue, something borrowed, something old, something new,” an old custom that brings the couple good luck.

How Nature Shaped Their Adventurous Yosemite Elopement

We chose a cozy cabin nestled in the valley, surrounded by forest, to spend the weekend with our closest 20 friends. Though we meticulously planned every minute, nature had its own surprises. Our elopement day began with an incredible sunrise over the mountains, leading to an afternoon ceremony. Dramatic clouds rolled in just before we exchanged vows, but the light remained beautiful. The moment the ceremony ended, rain began to fall—bringing us good luck. Instead of letting it dampen our spirits, we embraced the moment, sharing our first dance in the rain. When we arrived at Glacier Point for sunset photos, we were met with thunderstorms that made for some epic wedding shots. Then, out of nowhere, a huge rainbow appeared over Half Moon Bay—a rare and surreal blessing. Just when we thought the show was over, nature delivered one last spectacle: a stunning sunset with vibrant oranges and pinks, painting Yosemite in a fiery glow. We chose this date mainly to witness a meteor shower, but the cloudy skies had dimmed our hopes. However, as we reflected on the day, the sky cleared, revealing an unforgettable starry night. We watched hundreds of meteors streak across the sky from our Airbnb, with the Milky Way arching above us. It was truly the most magical day we could have imagined.

Starting Their Journey with a Symbolic Olive Tree Ceremony

From the beginning, we were clear that our wedding should reflect “us” and that we should do customs and rituals that make sense to us and not just follow social norms. Given our love for plants, we chose one symbolic ceremony to start this new journey with. We planted an olive tree on our elopement day, eventually finding its home in our backyard. The Olive Tree is often referred to as “the tree of eternity” due to its evergreen canopy and ability to thrive in all conditions, living for hundreds of years; the average age of the Olive Tree is 800 years old. Like this olive tree, we hope our love flourishes and lasts for eternity.

Planning with Purpose for a Unique Elopement

We wanted our elopement to be intimate, so planning was relatively straightforward. However, we took the time to add meaningful details, which made the process more involved. My advice is to prioritize what matters most to you as a couple and allocate your budget accordingly. While others may offer budgeting advice, it’s ultimately a personal decision. For example, instead of focusing our budget on the venue and decorations, we chose to elope in a national park and invested in a great photographer and memorable experiences. Be ready for the unexpected—when it rained on our wedding day, we embraced it and had our first dance in the rain. Planning every detail ourselves made the experience more fulfilling, especially with our bridal and groom parties involved in the execution. It created a homely and heartwarming atmosphere, allowing us to spend quality time with our friends throughout the wedding weekend. We wanted a unique experience for both our wedding day and night, so we chose a date during the peak of the meteor shower season. We watched thousands of meteors over Yosemite with all our guests that night, making it an unforgettable experience.
