Elegant Winter Wedding With A Disco Ball Ceiling

October 15, 2021 | kailey

Sleek black and white attire, disco balls, and a dramatic reception outfit change—everything about this elegant winter wedding is stunningly epic. With the help of wedding planner Bubbly Events, Cassidy and Keenan we’re able to bring their dream reception to life after an intimate ceremony months before. Talk about the best of both worlds.

Wrightsville Manor—a historic venue located in North Carolina—created an enchanting atmosphere. It was complete with towering oak trees draped in twinkle lights and a cozy fireplace lined with floral arrangements by Designs by Dillon. To add a pop of color to their black and white fashion, this couple incorporated soft pink and yellow florals in the bouquet, along the fireplace mantle, and on the candle lit reception table

This cozy celebration is packed with inspiration that couples will want to use as influence for their own chilly winter weddings. Don’t believe us? We’ll let these images from The Family Films speak for themselves. But make sure to have your Pinterest boards ready. We guarantee you’ll want to revisit these unique ideas.

The Couple:

Cassidy and Keenan

The Wedding:

Wilmington, North Carolina

Family Involvement Makes For a Personalized Day

My brother in law officiated our ceremony and he made it incredibly personal. He’s like a brother to me and very close with my husband so it was an honor to have him up there on our wedding day. We also had my dad do our communion which was an intimate moment to share together. Including our family during our ceremony was really important to us and helped make it feel more personal.

Watching Your Dream Become A Reality

We’re proud of the way the design came together. From disco balls to table settings, to the hanging tinsel, to my glitter pant suit—it just felt like us. We knew we wanted disco balls hanging in the clear tent for dancing but worked really hard to pull that detail into the ceremony and dinner while still trying to keep a romantic, elevated feeling. Overall the whole day was so aesthetically pleasing and while attention to detail drove us crazy some days, it paid off on the wedding day. We know weddings are about so much more than the design but watching your vision come to life is so special. Our talented wedding vendors really took our ideas and made it happen. They worked so hard for us and it definitely didn’t go unnoticed.

A Postponed Reception That Didn’t Disappoint

We didn’t really know what to expect for this “second” wedding. We didn’t think anything could top our intimate ceremony in March, but boy were we wrong! The most memorable part of the day was how overwhelming it all was—in a good way. We felt so loved by our friends, family, and vendors. It was really intimate still but we had the time of our lives. Everyone knew everyone and the day was full of emotion.

Working With The Family Films

Our photographer is so special to us. We consider her family. This was our second wedding because of COVID and in March after we had to postpone everything, we decided to still get married at the beach with our immediate families. Our photographer offered to come in March so that we could have those memories on camera, which meant the world to us. By the time December came around Beks and her sister Anna (our videographer) just felt like family to all of us. Keenan and I felt so comfortable in front of them and their presence is truly such a gift to their couples.

Plan A Day That Authentically Celebrates You

I think my biggest piece of advice would be have a little fun with it! Don’t be afraid to do something you haven’t seen before. I think people thought I was crazy when I told them my idea, but disco balls brought me joy and my mom and I had so much fun envisioning the day together. It just doesn’t matter what everyone else thinks—if your dream day is disco balls and tinsel (like mine was) then just go for it!

A Surprise That Made This Elegant Winter Wedding Special

Since this was a COVID wedding a lot of our family members couldn’t be there. My sisters surprised us with a slideshow of videos from all of our favorite people who couldn’t be there. They wished us well and toasted with us. There wasn’t a dry eye for that portion of the day.

Dancing Under The Stars And Disco Balls

We danced for hours under a clear tent, with these beautiful hanging disco balls. It just felt like a dream. Everyone who was there was simply so happy to be together and were genuinely excited to finally get to celebrate Keenan and me so it felt really special.

Beautifully Blue Backyard Winter Wedding

October 11, 2021 | riley

With winter only a couple of months away, we’re soaking up as much winter wedding inspiration as possible. Ali and Joseph’s beautiful backyard wedding may have been small in size, but it had everything they asked for. From fur shawls to a stunning blue color palette perfect for the season to a decadent s’mores station.

Despite planning a wedding during COVID and having no wedding planner, the two transformed their backyard into a romantic backdrop, perfect for a micro wedding. But they did have some help from their friends and family! The team came together and tackled some serious DIY projects–including the flowers, the wedding lighting, and even the bride’s hair and makeup.

Photographer Sopheak Smith did an amazing job of capturing how this ordinary space was converted into the perfect venue for the laid back couple. If you’re searching for creative ways to turn your own backyard into your dream venue, then keep scrolling!

The Couple:

Ali and Joseph

The Wedding:

Tulsa, Oklahoma, US

Simple Vibes At This Beautifully Blue Backyard Winter Wedding

Our backyard wedding was an eclectic boho chic blend of COVID-friendliness, child-proofness, convenience, whimsy, and low-stress beauty. As it was the second wedding for both of us, our main focus was our seven children becoming family with us. We transplanted a flowerbed, installed fence panels we found on Facebook marketplace, hung a lot of lights, ordered flowers online, and incorporated a lot of personal touches.

DIYing The Decor And Flowers

The florist–Joseph’s sister–could not come due to COVID, so my Matron of Honor stepped in to arrange the flowers and blew me away. Also, it became my Herculean task to hang lights around the backyard leading up to the wedding. I had attempted to hang–and ended up bursting many strands–of lights. The morning of the wedding, I asked my neighbor if we could bum some electricity from his outlet, and then realized we would have to rehang all the lights the opposite direction. I had to get ready, so I asked Joseph if he could do it and–amidst everything else he was doing–he didn’t even hesitate. He and a groomsman created the perfect ambiance for our post-sunset celebration.

A Team Effort For The Bride’s Look

I love both a classy and earthy style. I ordered the dress online because I loved the look and shape, and I had a tailor add material under the lace because when it came in, it was see-through! I looked like a mermaid and it turned out perfect. I made the faux-fur wraps for the girls and myself because it was a winter outdoor wedding and we needed something warm. One of Joseph’s sisters is a hair stylist and took my naturally wavy hair to another level. And my Matron of Honor created my hair piece with hot glue and leftover flowers about 20-minutes before the ceremony began. I did my own makeup and had to send my sister-in-law to purchase some waterproof mascara for me since I figured I’d need it.

A Wide Selection Of Tasty Foods

Joseph is a taco enthusiast and his friend and business partner catered our reception with amazing tacos from his local restaurant. I own a business making locally-sourced bone broth, and we served it at the wedding, which was perfect for the cooler temperatures. Along with the wedding cake from Ludger’s, our groom’s cake was a cinnamon roll “cake” prepared by the owner of Missy’s Bakery–my family friend (who incidentally was also Joseph’s first boss)–and assembled by my mom. We also had a s’more station around a fire pit that was the kids’ favorite feature.

The Wedding Team:

Photography – Sopheak Smith
Catering – Taqueria Escondido
Cake – Ludger’s Bavarian Bakery
Officiant – Shane Hatfield
Invitation Design – Templett
Rentals – ABCO Rentals

Congratulations again to Ali and Joseph on their blue backyard winter wedding. And big thank you to Sopheak Smith for capturing the beauty of the day. To nail your own backyard wedding planning, be sure to check out our ultimate guide!

Luxuriously Opulent Switzerland Winter Wedding

October 9, 2021 | riley

We’re dreaming of the snowy winter days ahead and weddings like Mélanie & François’ opulent Switzerland winter wedding has us ready to break out our skis and snowboards. The couple–who have always had a love for winter sports and the Swiss Mountains–knew that when it came time to tie the knot, it had to be at The Chedi Andermatt.

With the help of Junebug member and planner All You Need About, the two exchanged vows in front of the hotel’s fireplace for a cozy, intimate ceremony that was the epitome of winter. Even the floor looked like it was covered in fresh powder. All of these details paired beautifully with the carefully curated white and baby blue dried florals that made up the backdrop.

They then took portraits on ice skates with their photographer, Jessica Amber. It doesn’t get much more romantic than that! So keep scrolling if you’re looking for icy inspo because this one’s love at frost sight.

The Couple:

Mélanie & François

The Wedding:

The Chedi Andermatt, Andermatt, Switzerland

Memorable Wedding Moments

The first memorable aspect was the location. For those who have never been to the Chedi in Andermatt, Switzerland, it is a cocoon of softness and calm nestled in the middle of a landscape shimmering with white. Our second most memorable moment was the “pre-wedding” evening with our closest friends and family in the hotel bar. The relaxed atmosphere, the delicious cocktails, the laughter, the sharing, and the wonderful emotions made it a memory engraved forever in our minds.

45 Gorgeous Winter Wedding Guest Dresses for 2020

October 19, 2020 | riley

With temperatures dropping quickly as winter approaches, finding the perfect wedding guest dresses to keep you warm while you celebrate is crucial. From velvet and sequins to seasonal florals and flattering wrap styles, there’s a dress for every venue, style, and body. Just because it’s getting colder doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style this wedding season. Add a pair of cute boots and a cozy jacket to your wedding guest look and get ready to sip champagne and dance all night long!

Short Winter Wedding Guest Dresses

For some, wearing a short dress in the middle of the winter might sound dreadful. However, if you’re in warmer climates such as the American southwest, then you know how mild winters can be. No one wants to be in a thick dress if it’s 70 degrees out!

If you’re attending weddings in cold climates, there’s a very good chance that the wedding won’t be outdoors, either. Pair these dresses with a jacket or fur and tights for the short amount of time that you’ll be outside and then ditch the coat once you hit the dance floor.

Charming Modern Winter Wedding at Allenberry Resort

May 18, 2020 | Junebug Weddings

Give us all the wintery, modern, rustic vibes! We’re positively obsessed with Matthew and Michael’s charming winter wedding at Allenberry Resort. When this adorable couple was dreaming up their day, they knew it had to fit their personalities — and while rustic is oh-so-stylish right now, it was also totally them. We are absolutely obsessed with the dramatic bouquets The JDK Group created specifically for this duo, as well as every other little detail of this day! If you love a good snow day, romantic couples portraits, killer style, and cozy reception decor, you are going to swoon over the photos Savanna Sturkie Photography beautifully captured of this day.

The Couple:

Matthew & Michael

The Wedding:

Allenberry Resort, Boiling Springs, PA

Our self proclaimed theme of the wedding was “Icy European Glam”, which we eventually developed into “Luxe Lodge”. We love winter and think it’s incredibly underrated. We knew that we wanted our event to be cozy and romantic, and what better way to encapsulate that than with a snowy winter day? We’ve only been to one other winter wedding, and knew that we had to distinguish it from the holiday season with the same mysterious feeling. Throughout our relationship we have been to many weddings, making mental notes of what we did and did not like. We really tried to incorporate the beauty of a classic wedding, but wanted there to be more pops of glam modern luxe. One thing that we knew we wanted to steer clear of though, based on our personalities and design styles, was a more rustic style. While rustic is very popular right now, it didn’t symbolize us and we wanted to be bold and unique while remaining elegant and timeless.

Savanna was such a joy to work with. She really understood our vibe and vision, and made us feel so comfortable, confident, and happy on our big day. Her images really tell a story, which was a major reason we wanted to work with her. We love the colors and vision that she can see, and really knows how to feature the best of people and show their true personalities.

The weather really helped make the entire day magical. Scheduling a wedding in January, we were really hoping to get snow, but it seemed very unlikely because it had not snowed all winter. We wanted snow so badly that we even rented a snow machine. But luckily, we didn’t even end up using our snow machine, because we woke up to the perfect amount of snow and it continued throughout the day. We will never forget taking our wedding photos while shivering and getting soaked! Worth it!

Make sure the day/weekend is a reflection of both of you, and don’t be afraid to take a risk. Something we struggled with early on was that most of the wedding industry is so focused on the bride and making it “her day”. Even though we didn’t have a bride, we hated that most blogs and books say that the wedding is all about one person. A wedding is supposed to be about celebrating both people and the beauty of their love. Remember that both individuals are equally as important, you are getting married to another person, not yourself! We made sure to take the best elements of a traditional wedding, but we weren’t afraid to mix things up and try things that we hadn’t seen before. We both love event planning, and although some days were chaotic, there wasn’t one step of the process that we didn’t enjoy and we talked through everything together. Finally, don’t let anyone discourage you from caring about the details. We went through and debated every last detail of our wedding while people told us that it wasn’t worth it and that we would not remember those details anyways. When looking back, they may have been right about some of those details that we provided, but we don’t regret that time spent in the least – just hearing from others how perfect it was, is worth it. And be prepared for a post wedding depression – it’s real and hit us hard!

Allenberry was perfect for us. Not only were our guests able to stay at our venue, making the entire wedding a weekend event, but the aesthetic of the venue itself was perfect. Imagine old European stonework vibes with rushing water and a rich history. We couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get married there, and we loved the mixture of the classic elegance at Allenberry with our modern decor.

We wanted our wedding food to be unique and delicious, and not just dull wedding food. Our entrees were Boneless Buttermilk Fried Chicken with a Honey Pepper Sauce or Braised Beef Short Ribs with Mushrooms, Gorgonzola, and a Cabernet Glaze. Both were paired with red pepper swirled mashed potatoes, Parmesan crusted asparagus, and a winter salad. For cocktail hour, we had bruschetta edible spoons, mini crab cakes, baja fish tacos, chicken and waffle cones, spinach and artichoke dip, and a charcuterie board. Our cake was Lemon and Blueberry with hints of Lavender.

So many people give wedding gifts that their guests will never appreciate as much as the married couple do. We wanted to make sure that our guests could use our favor for as long as they had it. We gave each guest a book mark to immortalize their photobooth pictures to remind them of our wedding and their experiences at the reception.

Rustic Eclectic Winter Wedding Inspiration at Deep Cove Winery

March 8, 2020 | Junebug Weddings

This winter wedding inspiration at Deep Cove Winery is giving all the 1920’s feels with tweed, gold, a beaded wedding dress, and delicate, adorned fabrics! Planned as a joint collaboration by Beauty Bride and Bespoke Blossoms, the grounds of Deep Cove Winery on Vancouver Island made the perfect moody backdrop to make their rustic, roaring 20s elopement vision come to life. The talented team was inspired by Peaky Blinders and The Great Gatsby, so they created a moody reception space decorated with lush velvet, slate table settings, gold accents, and pops of floral color and textures. Candlelight warmed the ceremony setting, with glossy black chairs and a geometric altar. The bride was dressed in a dramatic, beaded long sleeve ensemble from Willow by Watters, and the groom wore a contrasting grey and navy tweed suit with a wool overcoat. We can’t wait for you to cozy up and swoon over every photo Tulle & Tweed Photography captured of this incredible winter wedding inspiration!

It’s officially the roaring ’20s and we’re celebrating with 1920s winter NYC wedding inspiration! The Big Fake Wedding NYC couldn’t have picked a better venue for the festivities than The Foundry, a renovated 19th-century industrial building overlooking the Manhattan skyline. The Big Fake Wedding curated a team of New York’s best wedding professionals to craft a vintage winter NYC wedding full of inspiration!

New York-based florists and event designers Flower Clvb, Ember Floral Co., Whisper and Brook Flower Co., and Botanique, produced a lush and glamorous display, each designer putting their own spin on the wintry styling. We’re particularly obsessed with the ceremony setup by Botanique, who contrasted traditionally cozy decor like evergreen and faux fur with trendy elements including disco balls and pampas grass. Every detail, from the bride’s stunning lace-sleeved Schone Bride ball gown to the Long Island Cuban Cigars + Bourbon Experience, was effortlessly captured by Requiem Images, By Veronica Photography, Laura Diliberto Photography.

From beautiful sunsets on gorgeous private beaches, to the delicious food, friendly people, a local airport, and amazing wedding vendors. Because Puerto Escondido is a hidden gem, it’s also much easier on your wedding budget than any other Mexican beach destination.”

Aspen, Colorado

Junebug member Nikk Nguyen travels frequently to shoot weddings and he suggests couples dreaming of winter wedding destinations check out Aspen, Colorado. This is his review of his favorite Aspen wedding venue, The Aspen Meadows

“The resort offers a unique collection of breathtaking backdrops for any winter wedding destination. With its jaw-dropping mountains, pavilions, terraces, and classic ballrooms this resort offers a stunning variety of venus for the perfect winter wedding destination! Whether you’re looking to host your wedding outdoors by the magical mountains of Colorado or inside a breathtaking ballroom, Aspen Meadows is by far one of the most picturesque winter wedding destinations to choose from.”

Iceland

Teri B Photography, a Junebug member, gave us the scoop on winter wedding destinations in Iceland. “Iceland has the Northern Lights, temperatures that aren’t too frigid, and enough diverse scenery to fulfill any type of look for your wedding day. Of course, long weekend destination weddings are ideal because they give guests time to celebrate you and have an adventure of their own. Based on how the horizon is positioned, that magic hour of sunset light can often last for hours in Iceland. This is a perfect opportunity for some of the most unique wedding photos you’d never capture anywhere else.”

Winter Wedding Destinations in Norway

Amulet Weddings & Events shared their favorite winter wedding destinations that are unlike any other. This Junebug member told us couples looking for the ideal destinations should look no further. We share their thoughts below.

“If you’re looking for a winter destination like no other then look no further than Scandinavia. These parts of the world are rugged and offer a unique opportunity for a magical, adventurous wedding. Your options for winter wedding adventures are limitless and include the Northern Lights.

Whether you’re looking for private waterfront islands and cabins, luxury spas with treehouses, or glass igloos, these locations offer Viking tradition set against a wilderness of fjords and mountains. A winter wedding in Norway will be enveloped by jaw-dropping scenery, rarely-seen animals, and unique experiences—the only limit is your imagination.”

Arctic Bath in Harads, Sweden

Talented videographer Maria Broström Studios suggested the Arctic Bath in Harads, Sweden and we’re inclined to agree. Check out these views! And if the views aren’t enough, they also offer Swedish massages, delightful food, and the combination of hot saunas then cold baths. As a winter destination, it doesn’t get much better.

Keep in mind that Sweden is chilly year-round, but in winter they regularly drop below -15° Celsius—or 59° Fahrenheit.

Barcelona, Spain

Junebug member Just Married Barcelona has some local, expert tips about Barcelona as a winter wedding destination. She had this to say, “Barcelona has very mild winters with cool but sunny days allowing couples to still have their ceremonies and cocktail parties outdoors. The city isn’t as busy as it is in summer either which means you’ll have more venue availability at lower prices than in the busy season!”

Scotland Winter Wedding Destinations

Wild Hearts Elopements—Junebug member and Scotland-based wedding planner—has us planning our own winter trip to Scotland with her description of its incredible offerings. She had this to say about Scotland, and two of its most majestic winter wedding destinations:

“Scotland offers some of the most majestic winter landscapes in the world. With towering mountains, frozen lochs, and a good chance of snow, it’s a dreamy spot for wanderlust weddings. There’s also a chance to get up close with wild deer, roam around historical ruins, and cozy up by the fire with whiskey!

Crisp frost, misty mountains, and rich winter tones make the cooler months of the year perfect. This opens up the doors for your wedding style, too. Think stunning tailored tweed jackets, fur coats, and a classic red lip. On top of this, it’s a wonderful excuse to have at least two pairs of shoes—something for roaming and something for strutting in!”

Glencoe Winter Weddings

“Glencoe in Scotland is famous for its incredible mountain backdrops. It was also featured in the James Bond film Skyfall, with winding roads and waterfalls around every turn.”

Edinburgh Winter Weddings

“The ancient city of Edinburgh offers an urban city backdrop for couples looking for a winter cityscape. With gorgeous cobbled streets, outstanding cuisine, quirky hotels, and bustling pubs to visit, there’s something for everyone.”

We particularly love the idea of hosting a winter destination wedding at Dundas Castle, a Junebug member venue.

Dunskey Estate, Scotland

Yes, we just wrote about Scotland above. We couldn’t pass up the opportunity to highlight Dunskey Estate when they told us more about their effortlessly romantic wedding options. We share what they had this to say about their incredible winter wedding venue below.

“Scotland’s national animal is the unicorn. Frankly, we cannot imagine anywhere more mythical and ethereal than the Scottish lowlands for a winter wedding. At Dunskey Estate, host your ceremony and melt into the ink-blue winter dusk at the Boma-inspired fire pit while the flames leap and crackle. Feel your heart soar inside your chest as you pass through the bare trees, up the main Dunskey drive, and through the slowly darkening fields. Your wedding photos, featuring stormy seas, windswept hillsides, and the coast of Dunskey Estate will possess unrivaled dramatic sublimity.

A true Edwardian castle, Dunskey is the epitome of magic and moody with its oak panel rooms, outrageous fireplaces, and enchanting chandeliers. We encourage couples to use our medieval chairs that were actually in the show for the most out-of-this-world enchantment.”

If the classy, sleek, and elegant feel of this hotel isn’t enough, there are six incredible wedding venue options inside.

Weddings are complete with a sweeping grand staircase, presidential suite, grand lobby, wine room, pool deck, and two enchanting main rooms. It’s no wonder the Waldorf Astoria ranks top amongst the best winter wedding destinations.”

We’ve Got Heart Eyes for Days for This Rustic California Park Winters Wedding

May 26, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

We might be just barely into summer, but Carly and Danielle’s Park Winters wedding has us already dreaming of autumn! These beautiful brides pulled out all the stops for their big day, creating a rustic, elegant, and laid-back farm feel that highlighted the very best of their California venue. Bewilder Floral did a phenomenal job incorporating fall hues into all the floral designs, from the table centerpieces to each brides’ stunning bouquet. We absolutely adore every detail captured by Victoria Carlson Photography but are especially in love with the brides’ coordinating yet totally unique wedding dresses. No detail or moment was overlooked, and the result was absolutely jaw-dropping!

The Couple:

Carly and Danielle

The Wedding:

Park Winters, Winters, California

We loved Park Winters because it is just a magical place! There were so many beautiful and interesting places for our guests to explore and enjoy. There were well-kept, beautiful gardens, both European and rustic Californian. In October, most farms are more bare and dry, so having maintained gardens on the property meant we didn’t have to worry about doing too many decorations past the basics. Additionally, Park Winters has a big patio where we could have a seated dinner outside, and a big modern barn for nighttime dancing. Basically, we fell in love with Park Winters and just knew right away it was for us!

We decided to go dress shopping together because neither of us had family nearby to go with us, and as two women, we wanted to make sure our dresses went together. We had seen pictures of many lesbian weddings where the dress styles and versions of white clashed. It was nice having each other’s support in picking out dresses, as it was actually quite stressful since we had to take time off from work to go, and the time slot was only an hour.

In trying on dresses, we realized it would look nice and work with our rustic farm theme if we picked different dress colors, and stayed away from stark white. Carly’s dress was a blush and mine was a white with a light pink tint that made it look vintage. We never thought the blush dress would work on the hanger, but on Carly it was perfect. We both selected strapless dresses with beading. Carly’s dress was fully beaded, mine had less. The two went nicely together, while still being different enough to make us feel like individuals. We ended up finding our perfect dresses at our first appointment within the slotted hour!

We had so many great moments, between the ceremony and dancing the night away. If we had to pick one, it would be our photoshoot after the ceremony and before dinner where we got to be together, just the two of us. Being surrounded by family and friends is amazing, but also can be overwhelming! It was nice to have a moment to be with each other and acknowledge that we just got married. The sun was setting and creating a beautiful sky over the farmland. We couldn’t help but smile, laugh, and enjoy our photoshoot in our beautiful dresses.

We wanted a rustic but elegant farm feel, so we didn’t want to pick one or two colors for everything. Instead, we wanted a good mix of fall colors. Early on we found a brilliant florist, Bewilder Floral in Berkeley, California. Their rustic big bouquets were the starting inspiration for our fall look and feel. We then found a four-color palette on Pinterest we liked that had sage green, gold, burgundy, and off white. We used this throughout our wedding planning.
