For that reason, we’ve rounded up 8 of the best winter weddings we’ve had the honor of publishing. We hope these inspire you to create the winter wonderland wedding of your wildest dreams!

Lorna & Ryan’s Rowallan Castle Wedding

Autumn/winter is my favorite time of year, and I wanted to mimic what was going on outside on the inside. I definitely wanted everything to have a whimsical feel about it. I chose more foliage and bare branches for the bouquets and table centerpieces over lots of flowers. We also had 2 free standing trees with lots of foliage and candles for where we stood during our ceremony. I wanted everything to feel effortless and natural.

Charyssa & Austin’s Parker Palm Springs Wedding

The first thing we said when planning was we didn’t want specific wedding colors. Instead of limiting ourselves to two or three colors, we opted to go by mood. We loved the idea of going dark and dramatic for winter so if it fell into that category, it worked for us! It was so much more fun to plan without worrying if it matched a swatch perfectly! All of the designs evolved organically until we eventually ended with black, gold, silver, gray, burgundy, gunmetal, blush, and white.

Joanne & Rebecca’s Manuels River Wedding

We love the outdoors. We are always exploring our province with our two chow chows and love camping and hiking. So, we wanted our vibe to be a bit of an enchanted forest feeling. Our decorator did an excellent job creating the vision we had, along with a few touches we made ourselves!

Allison and Brayden’s Edmonton Wedding

We planned our wedding in less than 5 months – and we would do it the same way again! Not allowing ourselves too much time to fret about the picky details was critical. By choosing to get married “off-season” on a winter Sunday, we were also able to secure our wedding planner and all of our top vendors on a short timeline. We kept our guest list unapologetically tiny; ultimately our extended families and friends were super supportive! Just because you have a small wedding, doesn’t mean you should short-change yourselves. Use the money you save on the giant guest list to invest in what is truly important to you. For us, that meant prioritizing amazing photos, décor, and food! It also meant securing a planner to worry about logistics and facilitate our vision. In the end, our wedding was more about celebrating our marriage than the anxiety of planning.

Jamie & Riley’s Southwind Hills Wedding

I had prayed and prayed for snow to fall on our wedding day but when I woke up on New Year’s Eve in Edmond, Oklahoma, it was actually quite nice outside for a December day. I wasn’t bummed out or anything but when the limo got closer to the venue, my bridesmaids and I realized it had snowed in Goldsby, Oklahoma! We all started freaking out and quickly pulled out our phones to take pictures and videos. I get so full of joy every time I look at our snowy pictures!

Britney and Luke’s Saskatchewan Wedding

We had a winter wedding, and we definitely wanted to use the natural elements around us as inspiration. The look and feel we were going for was natural, effortless and timeless. We chose some more modern/trending looks like the navy suits and brown shoes for the guys. And for the ladies, we kept it all in the theme of whites and off-whites for winter. It was classic and elegant.

Matt & David’s Emerald Lake Lodge Wedding

Emerald Lake Lodge was one of our favourite places to visit since we moved to Calgary. It is isolated, with no cell phone service and no tv’s in the rooms (only wood burning fireplaces!). We wanted our everyone to unplug and relax, spend time getting to know each other and enjoying the mountains.

Nicole & Justin’s Stanley Lake Elopement

Our ceremony was just the two of us, on the side of Stanley Lake, after a fresh snow. There was probably no one for miles around us, and it felt so secluded and peaceful. We hiked through the snow to one of the most beautiful places in Idaho with the Sawtooth Mountains as our backdrop. It was freezing but so beautiful! We wrote our own vows to each other, and our officiant Chris wrote a beautiful piece to say during the ceremony, as well.

Charming and Elegant Winter Saskatchewan Wedding at K+S Community Hall

Timeless winter elegance was given a modern and DIY twist in Britney and Luke’s gorgeous Saskatchewan wedding! The crafty couple handmade most of the elements of their day, including the florals, centerpieces, and — most impressively — the wedding cake. Their day began with an intimate and personal ceremony at St. Cecilia Church and ended with a cozy reception at Bethune K+S Community Hall. In between, Britney and Luke cuddled up for some seriously stunning newlywed photos with Stacie Carr Photography. Every detail, from the handmade decor to the modern, all-white bridal party attire, was thoughtfully curated and made us feel as if we’d stepped into a winter wonderland!

The Couple:

Britney and Luke

The Wedding:

St. Cecilia Church and K+S Community Hall, Bethune, Saskatchewan, Canada

Our ceremony was so special and memorable to us, and I think it’s because of those personal touches. To begin the ceremony, we played a slideshow of our engagement photos that told our love story, along with a special song to us called “Hey Pretty Girl” by Kip Moore. It definitely set the tone for our ceremony. Of course, writing our own vows made it very special as the words came from the heart. We had our friends very involved in our ceremony by sharing readings, prayers, playing guitar and singing. I also took a non-conventional approach to have my dad walk me up the aisle. After our wedding party had entered, we played the song “H.O.L.Y” by Maddie Wilson, and my dad stood up from his seat at the front of the church and walked down the aisle by himself to pick me up at the back of the church. When the curtains opened, we saw each other for the first time that day. It was an emotional and special moment we got to share with all of our friends and family. Then we did the big walk together. It was an incredible moment!

We did a ton of DIY projects for our wedding! My husband and I made our wedding cake together. It was a fun project that flopped a few times but, finally, we got it right! Our family helped us make the cake stand from tree stumps as well as the backdrop for the head table. It was stunning! We also made our own bouquets, hairpieces, and boutonnières.

The centerpieces were simple and elegant glass vases filled with pinecones and fairy lights on a gold charger plate with candles. I also made our table numbers from photos of Luke and myself at each age. We had a Sweet Treats Bar filled with homemade cookies, tarts, and pies, as well as a Caesar Bar with all our favourite Caesar garnishes for guests to build their own Caesar.

Our wedding favour to each guest was our favourite homemade chocolate chip cookies that were made by a friend of ours! She placed 9 chocolate chips on each cookie as it came out of the oven for Luke’s hockey number. It was very cute and made each cookie special! Those cookies were a hit and are still talked about today.

Timeless and Intimate Winter Edmonton Wedding at The Foundry Room

September 25, 2018 | juliette

With winter just around the corner, we’re all in for Allison and Brayden’s wildly romantic elopement at The Foundry Room in Edmonton, Canada. The industrial space was the most perfect backdrop for the timeless and dramatic look that Cocktails and Details curated specifically for this couple. In just 5 months, they created a cozy ceremony with a candle-lined aisle, a low floral altar backdrop, and a seasonal garland arch created by Fabloomosity and a reception dinner at one of the couple’s favorite restaurants, RGE RD. Allison and Brayden chose sophisticated attire for themselves and for their 5-person wedding party in romantic jewel tones, which added a touch of glam that’s just so fitting for a winter wedding. Photographer Sharon Litchfield was the perfect choice to capture the mood, the impeccable design, and the emotional moments of this special day.

The Couple:

Allison and Brayden

The Wedding:

The Foundry Room, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

We both really wanted our wedding to be a reflection of our marriage: thoughtful, intimate and deeply personal. Neither of us ever envisioned a large elaborate wedding so it was easy to decide on a small elopement-style ceremony. Apart from our vendors and our witnesses, we didn’t inform anyone we were getting married! It was amazing to experience the surprise and celebration with our family and friends over the coming weeks as we shared our amazing news.

A small, personal ceremony allowed us to truly acknowledge what was important as a couple and focus on what we wanted to give each other in our marriage. We were then able to choose elements of the day that would be most memorable to each of us. As a chef, Brayden was able to emphasize amazing food and wine. For myself, I wanted an intimate romantic ceremony with beautiful fashion and décor. We also chose our wedding date, the “Family Day” long weekend, to always symbolize the importance of creating and nurturing a family together.

The wedding vows were certainly the most significant part of our wedding day. Along with our amazing officiant, we chose modern vows; those celebrating a true partnership based on equality, encouragement and mutual support for each other. We also independently wrote personal vows – with the real tear-jerker coming when we ended with the exact same words, “You are my favourite. Today and always, I choose you.” The intimacy of a small ceremony allowed us to express our love for each other with those that would ultimately support us most throughout our marriage.

While we could have eloped in a destination setting, our home community still felt like the right place to start our marriage together. Edmonton has been very supportive to both our careers and is the place we truly call home. It was important for us to celebrate where we established ourselves as both individuals and a couple. We also wanted to get married where we planned to raise our family. All of the vendors were local Edmontonians, down to the wedding accessories!

It also meant securing a planner to worry about the logistics and facilitate our vision. In the end, our wedding was more about celebrating our marriage than the anxiety of planning.

Because of our small wedding party, we had the opportunity to consider many different venues for our dinner reception. The restaurant community in Edmonton is quite small and Brayden has many friends who own some beautiful spaces with great food. RGE RD, in particular, was at the top of our list for a few reasons: rustic and warm décor, absolutely delicious locally sourced food & drink, and ownership we knew we could trust to make our day extra special. The menu was expertly curated to suit both of our tastes. Everyone was absolutely stuffed with what will forever be the best wedding meal that ever was!

This Modern Vintage Maitland Art Center Wedding Makes Winter Park, Florida Look Like Italy

August 4, 2018 | juliette

When it comes to weddings with breathtakingly romantic ceremony spaces, Paige and Nick’s Florida wedding at the Maitland Art Center is easily on our list of favorites! Set against a stone wall lined with ferns and an intricate stone cross, their ceremony made us feel as if we had been transported into an old-world village. For their reception, they kept the details effortless and natural, allowing the outdoor space of Armando’s Winter Park set the tone for a laid-back dinner and dance party under the stars. Paige’s customized Tara Keely gown had that hint of vintage flair, and the bridesmaids’ white Lulus dresses and Nick’s forest green suit from Noose & Monkey added a modern twist that elevated and updated the look for a truly modern romantic look. We can hardly believe the incredibly intimate moments that Ardency and Arrow Co captured throughout this entire wedding day!

The Couple:

Paige and Nick

The Wedding:

Maitland Art Center and Armando’s Winter Park, Winter Park, Florida

We met 11 years ago in high school and have been in love ever since, so needless to say our wedding was well overdue! When planning our wedding we really wanted to have a day where everyone who had helped and encouraged our journey could share and make our wedding special and intimate. This includes the love of our lives, our pup, Rocky!

The most memorable for us was our ceremony. It felt so raw and real and made me fall in love with Nick all over again. Hearing our vows said aloud to each other was something that I play on repeat in my mind. We chose my long-time best friend and matron of honor to perform our ceremony and it was by far the best choice. She has known us for years and made it so personal and such a perfect fit for us.

One look at the Maitland art center and that’s all it took for us to know it was where we wanted to become husband and wife. It was amazing breathtaking in its simplicity. Ferns are a favorite plant of ours so having the ceremony site lined with them helped with the choice as well! For our reception we knew we wanted outdoor and intimate, we got lucky and stumbled upon Armando’s and the quaint outside private dining area. The owners were amazing and let us transform it to our vision!

Modern Scottish Winter Wedding at Rowallan Castle

March 16, 2018 | juliette

Lorna and Ryan put a modern twist on traditional Scottish traditions in their wedding at Rowallan Castle, and it couldn’t have been more beautiful. Their mix of autumn and winter colors worked perfectly with the old-world architecture, and the combination of bare branches and lush foliage gave the entire space a whimsical, modern feel. They also incorporated nods to their Scottish heritage, which included the groom’s MacGregor and MacDuff kilt, a hand-fasting ceremony, and Quaich toast at the reception. The bride blew us away with her modern, romantic style that featured a stunning Berta gown and a silver braided updo accented with a diamond and pearl headband. From the joyful getting ready photos to the intimate couple portraits throughout the castle grounds, The Gibsons could not have captured every gorgeous moment of this Scottish wedding more perfectly!

The Couple:

Lorna and Ryan

The Wedding:

Rowallan Castle, Kilmarnock, Scotland

Autumn/winter is my favorite time of year and I wanted to mimic what was going on outside on the inside. I definitely wanted everything to have a whimsical feel about it. I chose more foliage and bare branches for the bouquets and table centre pieces over lots of flowers. We also had 2 free standing tree’s, with lots of foliage and candles for where we stood during our ceremony. I wanted everything to feel effortless and natural.

We chose to have a Humanist Wedding. It is a non religious ceremony that is personal to you. We wanted something that was personal to us, that told our story. It made the ceremony more enjoyable and fun, which is what we wanted. Due to it being a Scottish wedding we also incorporated some Scottish traditions such as Handfasting-2 pieces of material are taken from the bride and groom and used to tie their hands together to symbolise the joining of the couple. It is where the phrase ‘tying the knot’ comes from, and a toasting from the Quaich- a Quaich is a 2 handled shallow cup, you then fill it with a drink of your choice, usually whiskey- we choose Jagermeister, and the bride and groom take a handle each and drink from it. We did this as we got to toast our marriage straight away instead of waiting for the speeches during the wedding breakfast.

Straight after we got married we were outside the venue, before the guests had even left the ceremony room, we got about 5 minutes to ourselves (the photographers were there, but it felt like we were alone). It felt so surreal that we were actually husband and wife. We both had this amazing feeling of excitement and joy all rolled into one. It was nice just to get that time to enjoy what had just happened, before we were ambushed by our guests.

If you aren’t happy or unsure with something wedding related don’t be afraid to speak up and say. It’s your day and your vision and you should have it exactly the way you want it. Don’t stick with something because you don’t want to offend a supplier, just to look back and potentially regret some of the decisions you made, all because you didn’t speak up!

Dramatically Glamorous Winter Wedding at Parker Palm Springs

March 5, 2018 | colleen

Full of modern elements, Charyssa and Austin’s wedding at Parker Palm Springs is a sight to see! With so many personal touches, Charyssa and Austin wanted to make their big wedding to have a small and intimate feel to it – this led to lots of hand-lettering and DIY projects! Luckily, Charyssa has experience doing calligraphy for many other weddings and was able to finally able to use her trade for her very own wedding. Her work alongside Arrangements Floral & Party Design‘s rich florals and trendy rentals came together for a modern and glamorous occasion. Photographer Lauren Scotti and videographer Thomas Wedding Cinema effortlessly captured the beautiful details and romantic love between Charyssa and Austin.

The Couple:

Charyssa and Austin

The Wedding:

Parker Palm Springs, Palm Springs, California

We made as much as we could ourselves. After doing the calligraphy professionally for so many other weddings, it was so much fun to finally do it for my own! I wrote out all of our guests’ names on their menus, created the escort card display with calligraphed names, and addressed all of our save the dates and wedding invitations. Pretty much anything that was handwritten had my touch on it! It was a year of planning and hand cramps for sure!

SHOP THIS POST

Our planner, Constance Curtis, was a godsend. She was so organized and thought of everything. The wedding weekend ran like a well-oiled machine, and if anything did happen to go wrong, she is so good that I never knew about it!

Lauren Scotti, our photographer, was also amazing to work with. Austin & I connected with her immediately and she made us feel so at ease during our engagement shoot. We were so excited to see her again the day of the wedding!

Hands down my favorite piece to work on was hand-painting the names on the flower girls’ leather jackets. The girls loved them!

Processional – Here Comes the Sun by the Beatles
Recessional – Dancing in the Moonlight by King Harvest
First Dance – Firestone (acoustic) by Kygo

Reciting our own vows was the best decision we made about our day. We both get terribly nervous to speak in front of crowds, but at that moment it was only about the two of us. Austin comes from a very traditional Mexican family and I loved seeing the surprised look on his face when I recited half of my vows in Spanish! There wasn’t a dry eye in the house when we were done.

Don’t let traditions limit you, but don’t let trends rule you either. It can be really easy to get swept up in the latest and greatest on blogs or Pinterest, but I think it’s so important to remain authentic to you and your significant other. Go with the trends and traditions that match your personalities and vibes as a couple!

We knew our guests well, which meant we knew they would have fun that night! After several hours of amazing cocktails and dancing, we sent our guests home with a very helpful hangover kit. We had “in Sickness and In Health” bags filled with Advil, Emergen-C, and mints wrapped around small Fiji water bottles. Everyone was so appreciative and the favors were a huge hit!

We knew it would be impossible to have a small wedding with all of our friends and large family, but we didn’t want to compromise that intimate vibe you get with a smaller crowd. We worked so hard to personalize every detail, whether it was with handwriting every guest’s name or letting everyone in to the rawness of our vows, we wanted to keep the night true to our personalities regardless of the size of the event. It was so important to us to create an experience for every person who came to celebrate with us.

This winter wedding at Emerald Lake Lodge is sure to warm your heart! Matt and David opted for a cozy and intimate wedding to share with their family who traveled from all over the world. When it came down to planning their wedding, it was a breeze the help of Lynn Fletcher Weddings who helped them in every way possible. With their hands free of all wedding-related things a week before they said “I do,” Matt and David were able to relax and be present in the moments leading up to their big day. When it was time to celebrate, their small reception had big party vibes from live music provided by Famous Players BandCarey Nash Photography was there every moment and beautifully captured Matt and David’s love for one another.

The Wedding:

Emerald Lake Lodge, British Columbia, Canada

The Polar Bear Swim! We convinced over 30 people to take a dip in Emerald Lake – a glacier fed emerald green lake surrounded by snow-covered mountains – that was 2 degrees! It was so much fun for both those swimming and those watching.

Know when to stop planning, to trust your planner, and to start enjoying! Our Wedding Planner, Lynn, was the one who told us to do this and it was the best advice we received. We had been in the weeds planning for months (over a year) and we did not know when to ‘turn it off’. Lynn called us the week before and said, “it’s time to let go – no more changes, no more worries”. From that moment on we entrusted Lynn and her team to make decisions on our behalf and we had the best weekend of our lives!

Marc, Dave’s brother, could not get licensed in British Columbia due to Provincial regulation, so our legal ceremony (private) was done 30 minutes before our public ceremony with our family in our hotel room. It was a special, intimate moment, that we did not tell anyone about until it happened.

During the middle of the ceremony a Jay flew in threw the crowd and landed on the sole tree beside us – he sat and watched the whole thing! We were later told by a guest: jays resonate truth, faithfulness, and solidarity because they are vigilant in their tasks. They also keep with the same mate for life, which is symbolic of endurance, patience and loyalty. The jay is an excellent symbol for those wishing to honour their long-lasting bond between friends, family and lovers.

Dave’s brother, Marc, “officiated” the public ceremony. It was one of the most special ceremonies we had ever heard – complete with wonderful detail, jokes, quotes, and our own vows. Nearly everyone watching, including vendors, were in tears at some point. It really encompassed who we are and why we chose to get married.

Lynn Fletcher, of Lynn Fletcher Weddings, was truly amazing. We spent over 18 months working with Lynn and her team planning our wedding – every minute, every detail, every dream. She helped make our wedding dreams come true. After months of planning, her and her team spent four days onsite ensuring everything was perfect. We could not imagine the weekend without her. She is now part of our life forever, as a great friend.
