After Local Venues Fell Short, This Couple Found Destination Wedding Perfection in San Miguel de Allende

Ryan and Andrew’s love story began in March 2017 when they joined the same kickball team in a local social sports league. What started as a friendship grew deeper throughout the year, and by December, their platonic bond transformed into a romance. “By the end of 2017, we became inseparable,” they shared.

When it came time to plan their wedding, they wanted a day that celebrated their love and allowed their guests to share in the joy. Initially, the pair explored venues in Philadelphia but nothing felt quite right. “We just weren’t excited about any of the local options,” they explained. That’s when a friend suggested a destination wedding, and the idea immediately clicked. Having traveled to San Miguel de Allende in 2022 for Andrew’s 40th birthday, the city’s charm, colors, and energy left a lasting impression. “We quickly fell in love with the city during that trip,” they said. It became clear that this was the perfect place to celebrate their wedding.

In spring of 2023, they connected with Junebug vendor Bougainvillea Weddings to bring their vision to life. “The entire team took our design, ceremony, and reception ideas and ran with them,” the couple shared. “They delivered above and beyond to create the most amazing day of our lives.” Planning a destination wedding could have been overwhelming, but Bougainvillea Weddings made the process effortless. “We loved that they provided an excellent list of pros and gave thoughtful feedback on which ones would best fit the mood and aesthetics of our wedding,” they explained. One of them was Junebug vendor and photographer Fer De Jesus, whom the couple connected with virtually.

Zoom meetings with vendors also proved invaluable. “Because this was a destination wedding, having these calls was important to us,” they said. “We wanted to get to know our vendors as people and discuss what we wanted for our wedding day.”

The couple kicked off their wedding weekend with a callejoneada, or wedding parade, through Parque Benito Juárez. The parade, complete with a mariachi band, mojigangas (papier-mâché figures of Ryan, Andrew, and their dog Penny), and a burro, led guests through the charming streets of San Miguel de Allendel. “Our friends and family loved it—it was the perfect way to start the weekend and introduce everyone to the culture.”

The festivities continued with a rehearsal dinner at Casa San Jose, a venue with a stunning outdoor space. Guests enjoyed tacos al pastor under the stars while sharing heartfelt speeches. “It set the tone for the rest of the celebration.”

yan and Andrew started their wedding day with a laid-back, fun moment getting ready together. They helped each other with their suits, adjusted boutonnières, and straightened ties, all while sharing smiles and a few laughs. It was a relaxed, happy start to the day that set the tone for everything ahead.

Ryan and Andrew’s rooftop ceremony at Terraza Trinitate was nothing short of breathtaking. The venue showcased stunning views of the city and featured a vibrant floral arch in rich jewel tones of fuchsia, orange, and deep blue. The arch framed the rustic wooden doors, creating a romantic focal point. “Walking into the ceremony and seeing all the planning come to life was surreal,” they said. “It was overwhelming in the best way.”

The ceremony itself was deeply personal. “Our incredible officiant met with us individually to craft the perfect summary of our relationship,” they shared. They also included meaningful song lyrics as readings, and both nearly lost their composure during Wolf Alice’s Don’t Delete The Kisses:

Me and you were meant to be in love
I see the signs of a lifetime, you ‘til I die

To add a lighthearted moment, Ryan and Andrew included a unity ceremony featuring Casa Dragones tequila. “Taking that shot was such a fun way to catch our breath, smile, and set the mood for the rest of the night,” they said.

The jewel-tone color palette carried seamlessly into the reception decor, creating a vibrant and lively atmosphere. Tables were dressed with floral arrangements in bold shades of fuchsia, red, orange, and purple, perfectly complemented by vintage glassware, gold flatware, and textured napkins that added a refined touch.

“We wanted the reception to feel like a lively fiesta while still being elegant,” the couple explained. The result was a stunning celebration that not only reflected their personalities but also encapsulated the vibrant spirit of their San Miguel de Allende wedding.

Another unexpected moment was a wedding cake gifted by the Bougainvillea team. “It was such a thoughtful gesture, and the cake was delicious!” they added. Photos of the couple cutting the cake are among their favorites from the evening.

Planning a destination wedding requires trust, and Ryan and Andrew were grateful for their planning team. “Bougainvillea reassured us every step of the way,” they shared. “They kept telling us not to worry, and they were right. Everything was perfect, from the flowers to the food to the overall vibe.”

Looking back on their San Miguel de Allende wedding, the couple’s advice to other couples is simple: “Do what feels authentic to you, and don’t rush the process. At the end of the day, it’s all about celebrating your love.”

This Couple Ditched the Beach for a Jungle-Inspired, Moroccan Villa Wedding in Tulum

January 29, 2025 | justine

A Moroccan villa, lush jungle vibes, and timeless elegance made this Tulum destination wedding an unforgettable celebration.

When Emily and Jose met at college in west Texas in 2018, they had no idea that morning gym sessions would lead to forever. Jose, a soccer player at the school, first noticed Emily when she would come in with her friend. “After seeing me at the gym, he followed me on Instagram, and we’ve been together ever since,” Emily shares. They knew they were meant to be because of how naturally they clicked and how perfectly they complemented each other. Five years later, Jose proposed on a sunny Miami beach.

Emily knew early on that she wanted a destination wedding—but not a typical beach resort event. “I wanted more of a jungle, earthy vibe,” she explains. After researching cities and comparing prices, they landed on a wedding in Tulum, Mexico. “It was perfect because it wasn’t too far from Texas, and Jose’s family speaks Spanish.”

“I didn’t want the wedding to feel too beachy,” Emily shares. She envisioned a more earthy setting with timeless details. She took her time comparing venues and reached out to wedding planners to help with the logistics. “Since I wasn’t in Mexico to visit places in person, I knew I needed a local wedding planner to help me communicate and recommend vendors.” The couple hired a Junebug Vendor Pride Maya Weddings, who helped bring Emily’s Pinterest board to life. “They were amazing and really understood my vision.”

When it came to selecting vendors, Emily’s approach was thorough. “I would look at their social media accounts to see if their work fit the vibe I was going for,” she explains. For the photography, she focused on finding someone who captured natural, in-the-moment shots with editing that matched her style. After careful research, she found exactly what she was looking for in Junebug vendor Elegance Photographie. “I didn’t want anything too posed—I wanted our photos to feel real.”

To kick off their wedding weekend, Emily and Jose hosted a welcome party and rehearsal dinner. “Even though I didn’t want a beach wedding, I wanted our guests to experience the beach while they were there,” Emily explains. The open taco bar and relaxed atmosphere set the perfect tone for the celebration. During dinner, guests were treated to an incredible sight—baby sea turtles hatching and making their way to the ocean. “It was such a special experience.”

Emily wanted her look to be timeless. “There are so many trends, but I didn’t want to look back at photos and regret my choices,” she explains. Her wedding dress was simple and elegant, while her reception dress added a touch of fun with its sparkly details.

The bridesmaids wore pearl yellow dresses, perfect for a wedding in Tulum, that were both subtle and eye-catching against the greenery, and the groomsmen’s tan suits complemented the palette perfectly.

“I saved on my dress because I knew I’d only wear it once, and it would get dirty,” Emily shares. She also prioritized budgeting for photography, food, and flowers. “The photos and videos last forever, and the food really makes the guest experience. Flowers bring the entire design together.”

The couple chose a stunning Moroccan villa surrounded by lush greenery, creating a dreamlike setting for their special day. The ceremony space was set over a serene pool with water reflecting the surrounding tropical foliage. The villa’s white facade, with its arched windows and thatched roof, was adorned with all-white arrangements.

The path leading up to the ceremony was lined with loose petals and string lights The overall look of their wedding in Tulum was modern yet organic, perfectly blending elegance with the natural surroundings. “I liked that the venue was a blank canvas,” Emily says. “It didn’t feel boho, and the architecture—with all the archways and unique details—gave it character.”

Walking down the aisle was an unforgettable moment for Emily. “Seeing my future husband standing there while a Christian song played made it incredibly personal and emotional,” she recalls. The couple wrote their own vows, filling them with personal anecdotes and humor. “Jose added some funny parts that we still laugh about today,” she adds.

The reception took place in an open-air poolside terrace. The highlight of the decor was the checkered black-and-white dance floor, which shimmered beneath a canopy of mirrored disco balls and chandeliers. “It looked beautiful in the photos and added a fun touch to the night,” Emily shares.

The tables were simple yet elegant, with dark wood, cascading runners of baby’s breath, crystal goblets, and personalized ceramic place cards. “We didn’t go overboard with small details, but the ones we did choose felt meaningful and personal,” Emily says. She filled an entire suitcase with personalized items like drink stirrers and napkins featuring her dog’s face.

Emily and Jose ensured their reception felt like a true celebration. “It’s important to make a playlist that’s diverse enough for all age groups,” Emily advises. The couple’s DJ kept the dance floor packed all night. “The checkered floor and disco balls made everything feel so festive,” Emily adds.

When asked for advice, Emily emphasizes the importance of letting go. “Don’t stress about things you can’t control. Everything will work out on that day,” she says. She also encourages couples to stay true to their vision. “There will always be trends and opinions from others, but this day is for you. Do what makes you happy.”

For Emily and Jose, their wedding in Tulum wasn’t just a celebration—it was a way to bring everyone they loved on a memorable adventure. “Everyone felt like they were on vacation,” Emily reflects. “It was a beautiful way to gather our family and friends and celebrate our story.”

Rehearsal Dinner Mistakes To Avoid According to Experts

January 1, 2025 | marissa

While your wedding day naturally commands the most attention during planning, the rehearsal dinner plays a crucial role in setting the tone for your celebration weekend. We consulted Junebug’s top wedding vendors to identify rehearsal dinner mistakes couples face when organizing this important pre-wedding event. From managing your guest list effectively to creating the perfect timeline, our experts shared their insights on avoiding common pitfalls and missteps within a rehearsal dinner. These 10 expert-backed tips will help you create a meaningful rehearsal dinner that kicks off your wedding festivities with warmth and intention.

Rehearsal Dinner Mistakes and Missteps to Avoid

Don’t Save Speeches for the Reception

Wedding photographer and Junebug Vendor Andrew Franciosa suggests saving those heartfelt toasts for the rehearsal dinner – it’s the perfect time for friends and family to share their stories in a cozy, laid-back setting. This way, your reception can focus on celebrating and bypass lengthy speeches that can drain the momentum (we’ve all been there). Consider reserving only the Best Man and Maid of Honor speeches for the wedding day, and encourage other loved ones to express their sentiments during the rehearsal dinner.

Don’t Miss the Chance to Be Sentimental

If you’re planning a hometown or local wedding, think about hosting your rehearsal dinner at your family home or a favorite local restaurant. It’s a wonderful way to spend the night before your wedding, surrounded by the comfort of familiar faces and places.

Junebug Tip: When choosing a rehearsal dinner venue, keep it close to both the ceremony location and/or your guests’ accommodations. Minimizing travel time ensures a smoother, stress-free evening for everyone!

Don’t Invite Too Many People

No one likes leaving people out, especially during your wedding weekend when it feels like everyone should be included. But the whole idea of a rehearsal dinner is to keep it small and intimate. Stick to inviting immediate family, your wedding party, and their plus-ones. This keeps costs down, makes the evening special, and helps avoid unnecessary complexities before the big day.

Don’t Drag Out the Rehearsal Dinner

Destination wedding photographer Alicia Nacenta shares that she encourages couples to keep the evening short. Ideally, the rehearsal dinner should last no more than 2 to 3 hours, giving everyone enough time to head home and prepare for the big day ahead. After all, the bigger celebrations are still to come!

Don’t Go Overboard

“You want the guest experience to build toward the wedding day,” says Michele Fox Gott of Center of Attention Events. In other words, your rehearsal dinner doesn’t need to be an elaborate, over-the-top affair. Instead, think of it as a small preview of the fun to come!

Luxury event planner Aimee Dunne tells us, “Don’t make it too formal. Guests may have traveled a long way, gone through the hassle of scheduling, packing, traveling, and purchasing a gift. It’s thoughtful to create an experience they can genuinely look forward to, without stressing over things like what to wear or strict timelines.”

Don’t Overlook Guests Not Attending the Rehearsal Dinner

German wedding planner Uschi Glas of 4 Weddings & Events offers valuable advice for those hosting destination weddings. “Arrange something for those who aren’t invited to the main events. It can be overwhelming to be in an unfamiliar place, especially if you don’t know anyone else there and feel alone. We’ve had great success with inviting all guests to a casual gathering at a bar (perhaps in your hotel), where you can cover the cost of one drink and some light snacks before the family heads off to the rehearsal dinner. This way, guests can connect and make plans to have dinner together somewhere in town.”

Don’t Miss the Chance to Keep Everyone in the Loop

The people attending your rehearsal dinner are the key players in your wedding day—your parents, siblings, and wedding party. Before saying goodbye, take advantage of this moment to share important reminders for the big day. Let everyone know where and when to meet for wedding prep, what time they should arrive at the ceremony space, and any other crucial information that will help to prevent any mishaps.

Don’t Consume Too Much Alcohol

Aimee Dunne wisely advises to not drink too much. “It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement, but no one wants to feel hungover on the big day. Keep things laid-back but consider setting an unofficial “end time.” Hosting the event in a venue with a time limit can help, and limiting alcohol service after a certain point is a smart move. Offering low-alcohol cocktails or similar options is another great idea—most guests probably won’t even notice the difference!”

But Don’t Forget to Have Fun

We can’t wrap up this rehearsal dinner mistakes list without our favorite reminder: have fun! It may seem simple, but don’t let the decorum or traditions of the evening dictate how it goes. These are your closest relatives and friends, and spending time with them the night before you say “I do” should be easy, relaxed, and enjoyable. So create a playlist of your favorite tunes, keep the atmosphere light, and make sure to fill the evening with laughter.

Don’t Force a Rehearsal Dinner

Elexis Canny, owner and lead planner of Placid Planner, offers great advice for couples with guests who have traveled from far away. “For our destination wedding couples whose guests have all traveled quite a distance, I always encourage them to forgo a traditional sit-down rehearsal dinner and instead opt for a more relaxed Welcome Party that everyone can attend.” Whether you have guests coming from afar or simply prefer a larger guest list and a more casual atmosphere, a Welcome Party might be the perfect option for you. Remember, a rehearsal dinner isn’t mandatory. Do what feels right for you and your celebration.

By keeping these key reminders in mind—such as prioritizing guest comfort, maintaining a relaxed atmosphere, and embracing the fun—you can avoid those pesky rehearsal dinner mistakes and create a meaningful, memorable evening for everyone. Elegant Weekend Long Boschendal Wedding

November 8, 2024 | justine

If you’ve ever dreamed of a mountain wedding that’s both elegant and ethereal, this Boschendal wedding is everything you could hope for. Set in the stunning Cape Winelands, Hannah and Sam’s big day was all about jaw-dropping views, gorgeous flowers, and creative, personal touches. Having lived in South Africa, Hannah knew Boschendal was the perfect place for their special day, a full-circle moment shared with friends and family.  And to kick off the weekend? The welcome party featured wine tasting aboard a wine tram—talk about setting the vibe for an amazing celebration!

The ceremony itself was like something out of a dream. Picture this: an all-white setup with a stunning mountain backdrop, ghost chairs, and a white aisle that led to the most gorgeous altar, framed by lush floral arrangements. Every detail just made the mountains behind them pop even more. As if the ceremony wasn’t enough, the reception took things to the next level. Guests got to “ring for their drink” at this fun seating chart, and the tables were covered with the bride’s favorite cascading hydrangeas. The high ceilings and draped fabric gave the whole space such a romantic, whimsical feel—it was perfection.

From start to finish, this Boschendal wedding is packed with inspiration. If you’re planning your big day, get ready to fill up your Pinterest boards because you won’t want to miss any of it. Every beautiful moment was captured by Junebug vendor Chrisel Mouton, and trust me—you’ll want to see every last detail.

The Wedding:

The Inspiration and Vibe Behind Their Boschendal Wedding

We wanted something that felt regal and elegant and perfectly matched the stunning backdrop of Stellenbosch. I had been saving ideas on Pinterest since our engagement, and we made sure to stay true to that vision. Seeing our loved ones gathered in a place so close to our hearts and finally walking down the aisle to become husband and wife was incredible. Having our sons there, dressed in little tuxedos, made it even more special. The whole day—from the ceremony to the reception—was filled with this incredible energy that we’ll never forget.

Tips for Couples Planning Their Big Day

Our advice to other couples would be to enjoy every moment—even though it can be stressful. It’s totally worth it when the day finally arrives. After months of planning, seeing everything come together is such an incredible feeling. Honestly, I’m a little sad it’s all over now because I loved having something to plan.

Seamless Four-Day Itinerary for Their Guests

One of the best parts for us was the four-day itinerary and planning. Starting with the welcome party, we got to greet everyone before the main events, which was such a nice way to ease into the celebration. The wine tram around Stellenbosch was a huge hit—our guests loved getting to explore the area and, of course, taste some incredible wines. As for the wedding day, it flowed perfectly. Our wedding planner made everything seamless so we could just relax and enjoy every moment.

Splurging on The Bride’s Favorite Florals

Our biggest splurge was definitely the hydrangeas—Hannah’s favorite flowers. We had this vision of them running down the center of the tables and spilling onto the floor, so we went all out with them. To make it work within our budget, we had to cut back on some of the downlighting and draping, but simplifying those elements didn’t take away from the look. The hydrangeas were worth every penny.

The Sweet Reason Why They Chose to Tie the Knot at Boschendal

Boschendal held a special place in my heart since I had visited it while living in South Africa, so it felt like the perfect spot for us to tie the knot and celebrate with our friends, family, and little ones. Having everyone stay on-site was a game-changer; we wanted to be together as much as possible over the four-day celebration. From start to finish, the staff at Boschendal was incredible, and Claudia from the events team was always there to help with anything we needed. Since it was a destination wedding with a smaller guest list, we carefully chose our nearest and dearest—those we couldn’t imagine celebrating without. It all made for a truly unforgettable day.

Watercolor Portraits as Unique Wedding Favors

We wanted to do something a little different for our guests, so we decided to give them personalized watercolor portraits, and Danielle Jordaan Studio did an amazing job! Everyone was blown away by the attention to detail, and it’s a keepsake that they can cherish for years to come. So many of our guests were thrilled to frame their portraits as soon as they got home.

Elegant and Woodsy RT Lodge Wedding

October 27, 2024 | justine

Katrina and Nicholas envisioned an unforgettable wedding weekend with their closest family and friends, and they made it happen. They chose the natural beauty of RT Lodge as their setting, combining its rustic charm with elegant details and incredible food as the centerpiece. Their RT Lodge wedding was a perfect blend of woodsy elegance, filled with personal touches,  stunning decor, and florals that created an extraordinary and memorable celebration.

In the middle of a winding road surrounded by tall trees, the couple exchanged their vows, with beautiful flowers framing the special moment. After their woodland ceremony, the pair, being food lovers, chose to have a tented reception. They enjoyed a delicious meal at long tables decorated with low flower arrangements and candles, all set under a canopy of greenery and twinkling fairy lights.

The intimate details, thoughtful touches, and stunning landscape made their big day special. If you and your partner are dreaming of a celebration centered around nature, family, and delicious food, this is the perfect inspiration. Keep scrolling to explore every beautiful detail and unforgettable moment, all beautifully captured by Grace Torres Photo.

The Couple:

Katrina and Nicholas

The Wedding:

RT Lodge, Maryville, Tennessee

Creating Their Dream RT Lodge Wedding Experience

We took a road trip during our search, staying at four different venues and meeting with their wedding planners. RT Lodge was the last stop, and we knew right when we checked into our room that it felt like home. We are foodies, so food was essential to us. After a dinner with their renowned chef, Trevor Stockton, we knew we absolutely needed to have his food at our wedding. The cherry on top was our meeting the next day with our wedding planner. She was incredibly sweet and organized and catered to our every need. She showed us various options for ceremony locations, and I knew I wanted a unique place to hold the ceremony. RT Lodge’s “winding road” was charming and perfect. After our time at RT Lodge, we knew it was the perfect place to have our wedding.

How Their Venue Influenced Their Wedding Aesthetic

I’m a huge gardener, so I wanted the flowers to reflect what I love to grow. We chose a colorful arrangement of pinks, oranges, yellows, and a small splash of blue. The woods of RT Lodge also inspired the next steps in our wedding planning. The save-the-dates were engraved wooden magnets, and the invitations mirrored the color palette, featuring a personalized map of RT Lodge. We found rental shelves, couches, tables, chairs, gorgeous velvet green tablecloths, and crystal-patterned champagne glasses for our champagne tower. The setting of our cocktail hour was pure elegance, with florals, crystal glasses, charcuterie boards, and falling leaves from the Smoky Mountain trees. The escort cards were a DIY wooden holder and card that embodied the woodsy feel of RT Lodge, displayed on beautiful shelves in front of the koi pond. Allowing the venue to inspire us was the best way to create a cohesive wedding day.

Personal Stories Weaved Into Their Ceremony

We wanted a very intimate ceremony where our guests could truly dive into our love story and really understand who we were together and why we were getting married. Nick’s youth pastor served as our officiant, and we met with him several times before the wedding to discuss the ceremony sequence and content. He also met with us individually to gather personal stories about one another that he could incorporate. He began the ceremony by sharing these stories, reflecting on his experience watching Nick grow up, and finally, our love story. We asked my sister to be part of our ceremony by reading our favorite Bible verse, Romans 12:9-18. She’s always been a huge supporter of our relationship and sounding board as we fell in love. The best and most special part of our ceremony was our vows. We decided a few months before the wedding to write our own meaningful vows to each other. We both read our vows from our leather notebooks and at the end, we put our vows and a five-year note to one another into a custom wooden box. We also included a bottle of wine and our guests’ notes and nailed it shut.

Adding a Fun Twist with a Wedding Newspaper and Scratch-Off Surprises

We created a newspaper for the wedding with a scratch-off ticket attached. In the early days of our long-distance relationship, Nick would surprise me with a scratch-off every time we met, so we thought it would be a fun touch to include them in the celebration. At the end of the night, Nick and I discovered a stack of leftover scratch-offs and decided to scratch them off together. Our friends were surrounding us, so we had an incredible cheering squad. Unfortunately, there were no winners, but it was incredibly memorable as we scratched them off while signing our wedding paperwork.

The Importance of a Trustworthy Wedding Team

Hire a team that you trust so you can live your day to the fullest! Surround yourself with vendors and planners who understand your vision and can handle all the details, big and small. When you have confidence in your team, you won’t have to stress about timelines, setups, or last-minute changes. Instead, you can relax and truly immerse yourself in each moment, whether walking down the aisle, dancing with loved ones, or simply enjoying the atmosphere you’ve created. Being fully present without worrying will allow you to soak up all the joy and love of your special day, making it everything you’ve dreamed of and more.

Creating the Perfect Vibe with Reception Music and Serving Up Favorite Late-Night Snacks

One of the biggest compliments we received was about our reception music. We used a recommended DJ from our venue, and had several meetings with him before the event. We were very specific about what music we wanted to be played and provided him with “no” and “need to play” lists. This made sure the vibe of our night was spot on. The dance floor was packed all evening, and people partied the night away. After the reception, we hosted an after-party in the bar of RT Lodge. This was an incredible spot for our late-night guests to gather and continue the celebration. We served pizza rolls and chicken tenders, which are our favorite late-night snacks. They were a huge hit! Tailoring the wedding to what you both enjoy is incredibly important, creating a space you’ll love.

Transforming Their Celebration into a Vacation for Guests

We are most proud of the venue and how seamlessly the weekend flowed. Everything about our weekend conveyed a sense of elegant comfort. It was beautiful and luxurious but still refreshing. The staff at RT Lodge played a huge part in the weekend’s success. Since we had the whole venue for ourselves, each room, meal, and event was catered entirely to our needs. We wanted our wedding to be an incredible experience for our guests. We loved RT Lodge so much that we knew a destination wedding there would be worth it and wanted to show our guests how wonderful the location was. Once we found RT Lodge, we knew we wanted it to be an exclusive, weekend-long event where we could maximize our time with our guests. We hosted events from Friday night to Sunday morning, allowing us to see everyone much more than just the wedding day. Our guests swooned over the venue, the hiking trails, the food, and the cozy setting in the woods. Not only did they attend our wedding, but they truly had a vacation.

Unique and Thoughtful Wedding Favors

We arranged a few special favors for our guests. At the welcome party on Friday, we set out kettle corn for all of our guests. They packaged it beautifully, and our guests devoured it the first night. We handed out personalized newspapers that I designed and printed on authentic newsprint in London for the wedding day. We attached a scratch-off lottery ticket to all newspapers and a story in the paper explaining how, early in our long-distance relationship, Nick would always bring me a scratch-off. This became a fun tradition we shared each time we saw each other.

Good for: Couples who are always up for an adventure

Review: Erin is amazing. My wedding would not have been the same without her. We love her, not just as a photographer but a person as well.

4. Mandi Roach Photography

Photography style: Timeless editorial

Good for: Couples who want the unscripted, in-between moments captured

Review: “Working with Mandi was the BEST investment my husband and I made for our wedding. We had our photographer fall through at the last minute, and Mandi took us in, and my oh MY, do I now believe everything happens for a reason! Not only is she the most kind, attentive, passionate, and fun photographer I have ever met, but she also has a beautiful eye and talent for creating magic and making the moments come to life via pictures. There are so many moments that are quickly forgotten during the craziness of a wedding day, and being able to comb through her art and relive those moments is so tender and so treasured by myself, my family, and my friends. I recommend Mandi for every event and moment in life that you want photos of. Everything she touches turns to gold and truly makes you feel like you’re in Vogue!”

5. Courtney LaSalle Photography

Photography style: Natural storytelling

Good for: Couples that want their photos to have a playful feel

Review: Courtney was amazing with our wedding photos. She made amazing accommodations for us and delivered sneak peeks and our entire album in an incredible time. I never imagined our albums would be so big, but Courtney captures every perfect moment, even the little ones. She always produced more photos than I ever thought I would receive. This woman is a complete sweetheart and knows how to make every session unique and comfortable. I would 100 percent work with her again and recommend her to anyone who listens.”

6. Alexandra White Photo

Photography style: Timeless documentary

Good for: Couples who are afraid to be in front of the camera

Review: Alexandra did both our engagement and wedding photos. Both times she was great to work with—very communicative and open to giving us great direction to get the best photos. We had a very small micro-wedding at a family member’s house, and she was great about giving us an hourly rate (as opposed to buying a full-day package). I was afraid that we’d look awkward and stilted in a lot of our photos (just because of who we are as people), but she got so many great candid shots where you can tell how happy we are. We also had some animal guests that Alexandra was excellent with—she got some super cute shots of just the dogs and horses. We love the photos we got back and would recommend Alexandra to anyone!”

7. The Ramseys Photography

Photography style: Realistic documentary

Good for: Couples who don’t want a wedding album full of awkward poses

Review: “Where to even begin?! Having Wil and Paige photograph our wedding, our engagement shoot, and my bridal portraits was the best decision we’ve ever made. They were so fun to work with, professional, and made everything so easy. Plus, the photos are stunning. Works of art. We are so excited to have them photograph everything else we do for the rest of the time and are so lucky to call them not only our photographers but also our friends! Cannot thank them enough.”

8. Leah Turney Photography

Photography style: Documentary editorial

Good for: The eternal romantics who want their photographer with them throughout the entire planning process

Review: Leah was amazing! We requested to take our couple photos at a national park before the wedding, and she immediately embraced the idea and all of the logistics that came along with it. My husband and I consider ourselves not to be photogenic people, so we were really worried about our photos looking awkward or too posed. But Leah truly made us feel at ease and comfortable when taking photos, and we absolutely love all of the photos that we have seen so far! She even brought two film cameras during our photo session which I have not seen photographers do before. Overall, Leah was kind and genuine and truly made us feel special on our wedding day! She even went out of her way to capture some special moments for us which we are so grateful for.”

9. Kayla Jane Photography

Photography style: Natural editorial

Good for: Couples who want a photographer who doesn’t take themselves too seriously

Review: “We had the pleasure of working with Kayla Jane Photography for our wedding photos. Grace was our photographer, and she was fantastic. Communication leading up to the big day was prompt and straightforward. On the wedding day, Grace was extremely flexible when our schedule changed unexpectedly during the reception. She kindly accommodated all of our requested shots. Grace chose beautiful locations for our photos and let us pull in friends and family for impromptu pictures, capturing many special moments. Her warm demeanor kept everyone at ease while posing for photos. The results aren’t back yet, but we’re very excited to see them, knowing that Grace worked hard to document all aspects of our special day in her signature artistic style. We wholeheartedly recommend Kayla Jane Photography!”

10. Brownie Photography & Production

Photography style: Photojournalism

Good for: Couples who seek beauty in everything and are looking for something different

Review: Ashley was amazing! She made me feel so comfortable during my bridal portraits, and my now husband and I had so much fun during our engagement pictures! The pictures we got back from our wedding came out better than we could have imagined. She worked great alongside our videographer and was super professional. Communication was always on point, which is very important for a vendor when your wedding planning, so keep that in mind! If you’re debating booking Brownie Photography, DO IT!”

11. Ama by Aisha

Photography style: Modern photojournalism

Good for: Couples who want gorgeous wedding photos and a beautiful wedding video

Review: From the very first interaction with Ama by Aisha, I was very impressed with the responsiveness and professionalism, but this team is so much more than that. Aisha and Claudia are both so incredibly artistic and talented . Every picture we got was captured authentically and emotionally. Both our engagement shoot and wedding day were so much fun! We felt comfortable with our photographers and trusted the creative process, even if posing felt a bit awkward at first. I cannot recommend Aisha and her team enough, wherever you are getting married!

12. Elisa Lopez Photography

Photography style: Candid documentary

Good for: Couples who want a photographer who’s going to narrate your day the way you want

Review: “We knew we wanted a wedding that was colorful and bright, and it was important for us to find a photographer who would honor those decisions. And Elisa definitely did! She and her assistant were on time, around, and posed us when needed, but otherwise unseen and captured the best candids throughout the day. We received our photos promptly and have been enjoying them with our family and friends. We also used Elisa for our South Congress engagement photos. We knew from that photo shoot we picked the right photographer for us, and we will definitely use her again in the future!”

13. Anna Claire Beasley Photography

Photography style: Documentary with a focus on nostalgia

Good for: Couples who want their photos to transport them right back to their big day 50 years from now

Review: “We seriously cannot recommend Anna Claire enough. We were drawn to her because of her incredible skill and her selfless support of our ideas. She weaves flexibility into her schedule in order to host adventure sessions for her clients at some of the most beautiful locations in the country, which allows for an extremely fun and personal experience while capturing engagement photos or portraits with your partner. She also supported us in our decision to have an unconventional wedding, and she helped capture it through her great dedication and thoughtfulness as a photographer. She is professional but also ridiculously fun and she did whatever it took to take care of us throughout the whole experience, from wedding advice to shared conversation over a meal of breakfast burritos to carrying six different cameras on our wedding day. The photos are honest, beautiful, and romantic, and they are more than anything we imagined. Choosing Anna Claire as a photographer was easily the best decision we made for our intimate wedding, aside from choosing to marry each other (obviously). We cannot recommend her enough, truly!”

14. Breathless Wedding Chronicles

Photography style: Artistic documentary

Good for: Couples toying around with a destination wedding

Review: Gab and Chris did a fantastic job shooting our wedding. They were able to both accommodate our style preferences and propose ideas for photos that were fun and creative. They are so friendly and invested a lot of time in getting to know us and our preferences before our wedding and welcome party. We were so happy with how the photos from our wedding turned out and with the first look that they planned and shot for us. They took some iconic photos of us and our friends and family that we will treasure forever.”

15. Philip Thomas Photography

Photography style: Documentary storytelling

Good for: Couples that want to avoid wedding photography cliches

Review: “I cannot recommend Philip enough! My husband and I are not people who love taking pictures, but Philip made us instantly feel comfortable! He captured every little moment from our wedding that we will cherish forever. Not only were the candid photos amazing, but the group photos/staged pictures were incredible! Philip is so kind and fun. He made a very daunting process feel like a breeze. He even sent our wedding photos earlier than we expected. Hire him, you won’t regret it!”

16. John David Weddings

Photography style: Romantic storytelling

Good for: Couples that want photos that look like they belong in a magazine

Review: “First and foremost, JD is an artist, and his collection of work is truly fine art. When I worked in the wedding industry, I would frequently recommend JD to my clients because of his personality and aesthetic. I’d tell my couples that there are many wonderful photographers out there, but choosing a photographer that you vibe with, is kind to your wedding party, and isn’t a diva is IMPORTANT! 6 years later, and it was finally my turn to hire JD for my engagement shoot and our destination wedding in New Orleans, and while I knew he would knock it out of the park, he far exceeded my hopes and dreams.”

17. Gloria Goode Photography

Photography style: Photojournalism

Good for: Those who want a wedding photographer and a best friend

Review: “The. Best. Photographer. Ever. I have so much to say about Gloria. She really made my dreams come true! First of all, she is just great and so personable. Everyone loved her. My partner wasn’t excited about pictures, but she made it SO easy and fun. She took my ideas and ran with them and had even better ideas of her own. She worked so well with other vendors (film, planner, etc.) She captured candid pictures like no other. I could go on and on… but just look at her work!!! I would get divorced and remarried all over again just to work with her.”

This Old Hollywood-Inspired Casa de Monte Vista Wedding Took Guests Back in Time

August 4, 2024 | justine

Melissa and Joel envisioned their guests being transported to another era, capturing Palm Springs’ timeless elegance and lively spirit. Infusing the celebration with vibrant colors and carefully chosen designs, they curated an event filled with energy and charm. Thanks to their meticulous planning, every detail of their Casa de Monte Vista wedding reflected their Spanish and Old Hollywood inspirations. They not only achieved their vision but surpassed it, creating a day brimming with beauty and nostalgia.

Surrounded by majestic mountain views and swaying palm trees, their garden ceremony unfolded in natural beauty. Adorned with colorful floral pillars at the altar, the setting was simply stunning. At the poolside reception that followed, guests were welcomed by tables adorned with bold pink and red arrangements, taper candles, and elegant gold settings

Melissa’s wedding dress–featuring unique intricate floral patterns–and Joel’s classic tuxedo complemented the scene perfectly, adding the ideal finishing touches to their unforgettable day. On top of the breathtaking fashion that belongs in a magazine, Madison Maltby Photo beautifully captured every detail that’s sure to inspire your own wedding. This celebration is brimming with ideas you can incorporate into your big day.

The Couple:

Melissa and Joel

The Wedding:

Casa de Monte Vista, Palm Springs, California, United States

A Magical First Look Amidst Garden Splendor

Our best moment at the wedding was definitely when we had our first look. We had been looking forward to it all day while getting ready with our friends, surrounded by beautiful gardens and old Hollywood-style buildings. When Joel saw the dress for the first time, he was so amazed that he couldn’t say anything. The setting, with all the blooming trees and flowers, made it even more magical and unforgettable. We feel fortunate to have shared that special moment together.

Practical Wedding Advice from the Couple

For couples starting to plan their wedding, dare to be bold in your design choices. Let your personalities shine through every detail. Share the tasks equally, as working together makes the journey more fulfilling. Embrace DIY projects—they add a personal touch. Remember, your wedding should reflect your love story, not feel like a chore. Take risks and create something truly extraordinary together.

Celebrating Personal Style at Their Casa de Monte Vista Wedding

We’re really proud of how our artistic and detail-oriented personalities influenced our wedding design and fashion choices. It was incredibly fulfilling to see Palm Springs’ historic charm and botanical beauty brought to life through our theme, with a modern twist in our wardrobe. Our hands-on approach to DIY projects lets us add personal touches that showcase our style. Working together to realize our vision gave us a deep sense of ownership for the day. Lastly, seeing our diverse friend groups—Green Berets and Professional Cheerleaders—come together in joy and love created a truly magical atmosphere.

Why They Chose Casa de Monte Vista

We picked Casa de Monte Vista Estate in Palm Springs, for our wedding venue because its romantic, modern Spanish style instantly transported us to a Mediterranean paradise the moment we walked through the arched doorway. The lush gardens, beautiful architecture, and enchanting ambiance perfectly matched our vision for a one-of-a-kind, intimate, and unforgettable celebration.

On-Theme Wedding Attire and After-Party Style

On our wedding day, I wore the Cora wedding dress from Rue De Seine, which captured my vision of romantic Spanish style with a touch of Palm Springs flair. Inspired by vintage lace romance and 1970s elegance, the dress featured intricate floral patterns and a flowing silhouette that made me feel effortlessly beautiful. I styled my hair in a romantic up-do inspired by Pamela Anderson and opted for soft glam makeup to match the vibe of my special day. My groom looked perfect alongside me in a deep green tuxedo jacket paired with slim black tuxedo pants. For the after-party, my second dress by Helsi continued the floral theme with applique details and sequins. I added a playful touch with rhinestone floral shoes by Azalea Wang to kick off the festivities. The groom complemented this look with a white tuxedo jacket, seamlessly embracing the old Hollywood Palm Springs vibe.

Adding Personal Flair to Their Casa de Monte Vista Wedding Through DIY Touches

We added a personal and creative touch to our wedding with several DIY elements. One highlight was our flower seating chart wall adorned with the phrase “Everything’s Better in Palm Springs,” wallpapered in marigold and decorated with flower-filled boxes. We also crafted a flower box welcome sign used at both our welcome party and wedding entrance. For a playful touch that nodded to our last name “Swenson” and the movie “Dumb and Dumber,” we created personalized cocktail napkins with the quote, “Starts with an S! Swim, Swami, Slippy, Slappy, Swimmon, Sammon, Simmon, Swans, Swenson?” Additionally, we designed the menus for our family-style dinner. These DIY projects made our celebration unique and unforgettable.

Latin-Inspired Food to Match Their Spanish Venue

Our Latin-themed, family-style catered wedding featured vibrant and delicious dishes served on tables lit with romantic candlelight. The menu included a refreshing Pepita Caesar Salad and zesty Cilantro Lime Slaw, followed by mouth-watering Jalisco Style Churrasco, Calabasitas, and savory Chicken Poblano. Guests’ favorite sides included Frijoles and Street Corn, perfectly complemented by Salsa and Chips, creating a cozy dining experience. For dessert, churro donuts and homemade vanilla bean ice cream topped off the amazing meal. The food, crafted by Adriana Cocina, a woman-owned, family-run business from Temecula, California, added a personal and heartfelt touch to our celebration.

This Casa Adela Destination Wedding Was Bursting With Color

July 21, 2024 | justine

Josline and JJ had always dreamed of traveling to San Miguel de Allende, a city renowned for its colonial charm and stunning architecture. Captivated by its beauty, they knew it was the perfect place to celebrate their big day. With the help of Junebug vendor Bougainvillea Weddings, they ensured the florals and decor reflected their fun personalities. Their goal was to create a unique and memorable experience for their friends and family, and they successfully pulled off a breathtaking Casa Adela destination wedding bursting with color and style.

Surrounded by breathtaking 360-degree views of the high desert valley, the garden ceremony was a standout moment of the couple’s special day. The couple exchanged heartfelt vows under a trellis adorned with colorful drapery, garlands, and lush blooms. This was followed by a dreamy poolside reception featuring tablescapes of vibrant floral arrangements, earthy accents, and gold settings, all illuminated by string lights. It was a night of endless partying and dancing, creating unforgettable memories for everyone.

If you and your partner dream of a romantic wedding in a beautiful location, you’ll fall in love with these stunning photos captured by Carolin Volker. This is the ultimate inspiration for your perfect destination wedding.

The Couple:

Josline and JJ

The Wedding:

Casa Adela, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

How They Brought Their Dream Casa Adela Destination Wedding to Life

San Miguel de Allende has been a city high on our bucket list of places to travel together. We also knew we wanted to create a unique and memorable experience for our friends and family when they attended our wedding. We were immediately drawn to the colonial-style charm and architecture of the city, as well as the romantic gardens displaying the most stunning florals and trees. We found all that and more. Once we finalized our venue, it was easy to envision the vibe of our perfect day. We couldn’t wait to get married under the romantic sunset in San Miguel. Our guests had such a fantastic experience and are already planning their return.

Advice for a Memorable and Stress-Free Wedding Day

The best advice I can give any future bride and groom is to remember the reason for your wedding day—to celebrate the love you share and declare your commitment to one another. Friends and family will have a lot of input about the details of your wedding, but try not to sweat the small stuff and stick to what makes you, as a couple, happy. If your budget allows, find a wedding planner whose portfolio reflects your envisioned wedding day. Our incredible planners, Bougainvillea Weddings, turned our dreams into reality. Every aspect of our wedding weekend was planned down to the last detail, and we were lucky enough to have the most talented photographer and videographer capture these special moments in film.

Celebrating Vibrant Personalities Through Vibrant Floral Displays

We are most proud of the beautiful floral arrangements created by Bougainvillea Weddings for our special day. We have never seen such an elegant display of floral decor. I would like to think that my husband and I have fun, colorful personalities, and it was important to us that our florals and decor reflect that. Our planners took our inspiration and created the most beautiful arrangements. In fact, I took my bridal bouquet back to Texas so we could preserve it and display it in our home.

How Casa Adela Became Their Dream Wedding Venue

We were completely enamored by Casa Adela as soon as we saw photographs of the venue and property. Casa Adela offers simplistic and artfully designed spaces that allow the beauty of San Miguel de Allende to shine through. When we rented the property, we were excited to be able to host our families for the whole weekend. Beyond that, the intimate courtyard and stunning views from the terrace were exactly what we were hoping for. We experienced exceptional care and hospitality from the staff, and we cannot wait to return.

Exceptional Wedding Planning with Junebug Vendor Bougainvillea Weddings

We were so pleased with our exceptional experience with our wedding planners at Bougainvillea Weddings. We met with Estela Maldonado, director of Bougainvillea, in a virtual call and knew she and her team could turn our dream into reality. Their ability to offer “turn-key” wedding planning services is precisely what we needed. They create florals and decor, offer catering and bartending services, and coordinate all the logistics of your wedding events (welcome party, rehearsal dinner, wedding day). I don’t know what I would have done without their expertise, and we are forever grateful for the amazing experience Bougainvillea Weddings created for us and our families.

This Dreamy Kima Tulum Wedding Took Place in the Middle of the Jungle

June 25, 2024 | justine

Jacqueline and Johann found the perfect spot for their wedding: a hidden gem surrounded by lush greenery in tropical Tulum. The moment they laid eyes on it, they knew it was meant to be. With its secluded charm, their dreamy Kima Tulum wedding became a reality in this extraordinary setting. Soft pastel colors and delicate flowers adorned the space, blending seamlessly with the natural beauty around them. It was more than just a wedding; it was a reflection of their love story and who they are as a couple.

The ceremony took place in a tranquil jungle cove, where a stunning bamboo arch became the focal point. As the festivities shifted to the reception, KIMA underwent a wondrous makeover, turning into a captivating oasis. The ambiance echoed a mystical jungle, highlighted by a dreamy cloud of baby’s breath hovering above the tables. Rattan pendant lamps and twinkling string lights enhanced the enchantment, casting a spell on all who were present.

Don’t miss a thing from the amazing tropical setting to the fun atmosphere and sweet moments, all captured by Junebug vendor MemoryBox Photography. If you’re planning a dreamy Mexico wedding, this is the perfect inspiration for you!

The Couple:

Jacqueline and Johann

The Wedding:

Kima Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico

Setting the Tone With Their Welcome Party

While designing our mood board, I chose three words I wanted our day to embody and selected everything to fit those three words. For our welcome party, we chose “cool,” “sexy,” and “understated.” We went to an incredible cave venue at Papaya Playa Project with twinkling lights in the wooden floorboards that resemble stars, opening up to the ocean’s crashing waves. We lit the cave with warm, low amber lights and dried neutral florals, pampas, and candles to keep everything minimal and cool. Our guests also had access to the rooftop on top of the cave, where we set up the DJ and bar to overlook the ocean, with low cocktail tables and bean bag chairs. Our dress code was neutral colors and earth tones, matching Tulum’s earthy vibe and setting a great tone for the weekend.

Creating a Romantic Atmosphere with Pastel Colors

For our wedding day, we chose “dreamy,” “romantic,” and “fun.” We mainly used light greens, creams, and bright yellows, with pastel blush, lilac, and peachy-orange pops. All chairs were a light, bright wood, setting a sweet, cotton-candy mood. I had hanging installations of wooden lanterns and string lights to resemble stars and poofy floral clouds made of white and light pink baby’s breath over the reception area. We opted for interesting florals that brought texture and layers, sticking with the light and pastel color theme but arranging them in a gradient color pattern, clustering similar colored florals together for a unique look. Our dress code was colorful and festive, with a gentle request to avoid black, and all our guests followed it beautifully. The bright colors created a positive and fun vibe everywhere you looked; every photo was so dreamy. Looking out at our guests during the reception and seeing a sea of smiling faces of people who love and support us so much was overwhelming. We got a bit choked up when we actually had a moment to stop and see everyone together during our welcome toast. It was truly special.

Why Kima Was The Perfect Wedding Venue

Kima is truly a one-of-a-kind venue. It gives you the feeling of being in your own jungle paradise, with two acres of oasis all to yourself. Yet, surprisingly, you’re only 15-20 minutes away from the beach and downtown Tulum. Kima has this amazing jungle-chic vibe, with a sexy touch in its sleek minimalist room designs and rugged jungle bar. The ceremony area feels like a hidden gem in the heart of the jungle, with copals burning around you, creating an intimate atmosphere. But then, when you step into the reception area, it’s like stepping into a whole other world—a spacious, open space just waiting for a party to kick off! And let’s not forget about the pool. It’s practically calling out to be jumped into at night’s end.

Keeping their Dreamy Kima Tulum Wedding Vibe Positive

Guests tend to mirror the attitude and mood of the bride and groom. So, if people see you getting upset or stressed over something, guests will also feel upset. If you keep it fun and happy, the party will keep going. And if you want people on the dance floor, stay on the dance floor. I’m really proud of the attitude Johann and I had during our wedding week. We were just so happy to be in Tulum with the people we love, and we knew at the end of the day, the smaller details didn’t matter—we were so loved and lucky. Things didn’t go perfectly 100% of the time, but we did not let it bring down our mood for a second. We knew we had a great wedding team, and everything worked out.

Setting a Realistic Dreamy Kima Tulum Wedding Budget

We sat down and discussed how much each of us felt comfortable contributing to our wedding and agreed on a budget goal for our wedding weekend. We were aware that people often go over budget with wedding planning, so we saw our budget more as a target rather than a strict number. Since we planned a destination wedding, we knew our guest count would be lower, which helped with budgeting, as that has the highest impact overall. We identified essential areas to prioritize (such as ample food throughout the weekend, transportation, open bars, photographers, and hair and makeup), and everything else was considered extra. The biggest surprise expense for us was the cost of rentals. To help stay within budget, I compared rental fees with the cost of purchasing items from Amazon, which saved us a significant amount of money in some cases. So, here’s a tip for other couples: if your venue includes tables, chairs, linens, etc., that can be a huge money saver, as renting each of those items individually can quickly eat into your budget.

A Hilarious High School Prank Turned Wedding Surprise

Back in high school, Johann’s friends pulled a prank on him that he’ll never forget. They made a stencil of his face from a photograph and spray-painted it on many stop signs around town. Johann didn’t notice for two whole weeks, and when he finally did, he was furious! But his dad found it absolutely hilarious and even kept one of the street signs in their garage as a memento. During our cocktail hour, I decided to surprise Johann with edible cocktail toppers made with that very stencil of his face. He couldn’t believe it and found it absolutely hilarious.
