This Intimate Gluggafoss Wedding Was Complete With Epic Style and a Gorgeous Picnic

April 11, 2024 | justine

Emiliano and Eduardo had a brilliant idea: escape to Iceland alongside their closest family and friends for a truly unique wedding experience. Surrounded by stunning scenery, from majestic waterfalls to enchanting forests, their intimate Gluggafoss wedding was nothing short of magical.

They found themselves in the ideal setting to exchange heartfelt vows backed by the breathtaking natural beauty of a waterfall. With the summer Icelandic landscape as their witness, they sealed their love in an unforgettable ceremony. After officially becoming partners for life, they all reveled in the joy of the moment, coming together for an outdoor picnic. It was the perfect conclusion to a day filled with love, laughter, and some incredible groom fashion inspiration.

If you and your partner have been dreaming about going on an amazing adventure to a stunning place, then you’re in luck! Look through these incredible photos taken by Sunday & White Studio. They’re sure to make you excited about what’s to come. And to learn more about what happened during this special day, let’s hear from the Junebug planner, Pink Iceland.

The Wedding:

Gluggafoss, Iceland

Junebug Planner Pink Iceland’s Insights on this Intimate Gluggafoss Wedding

As wedding planners, we absolutely loved the choices of the couples regarding what they wanted their wedding to be. Intimate, relaxed, fun, and so much about spending time with their guests. Most of the wedding picnic drinks were non-alcoholic, with different options like Icelandic sparkling tea, different options of juices infused with fruits, and Arctic herbal tea to keep the guests warm; it was a real hit. We can’t let their incredible wedding outfits go unmentioned; we’re so in awe of the glamor, beauty, and creativity of the outfits. They are just magnificent, and they look so great against the beautiful Icelandic nature backdrop. We still keep in touch with this wonderful couple, and they send us sweet messages reminiscing about how wonderful the day was. They also shared with us that their families are still bringing it up and wish to go back. This day gave us so much as planners, seeing and feeling the emotions of our couple—it’s the best part about being a wedding planner.

From Waterfalls to Picnic Tables: Crafting a Unique Reception Experience

The surroundings were perfect for this setup! The waterfall, the lake, and the trees. Greenery all around, keeping it so intimate and beautiful. You don’t have to have the traditional sit-down reception dinner in the evening. Why not try something different, use the evening sun in Iceland, and plan a reception picnic outdoors with great food and drinks? It is relaxing and fun, something different but very Icelandic. Icelanders love camping in the summer/fall, listening to music while eating, and drinking in good company throughout the evening. As it was a group of all ages, it was brilliant to have chairs and picnic tables for those who wouldn’t feel comfortable sitting on picnic blankets and pillows.

Magical Casa de Don Andrés de Madariaga y Morales Wedding

April 10, 2024 | justine

Mandy and Mason adore traveling together, and their hearts beat for Cartagena, their most cherished city in the world. It was the dream spot where they tied the knot, surrounded by its vibrant culture, mouthwatering cuisine, and undeniable romance. When planning their wedding, they aimed to infuse it with authentic Colombian traditions while adding their unique touch. With a romantic vibe, breathtaking flowers, and rich colors, their Casa de Don Andrés de Madariaga y Morales wedding was a celebration where love truly flourished in every detail.

In the heart of the Old City, the couple exchanged vows in the renowned 16th-century church, setting the stage for a magical ceremony. They transformed the historic venue into a fairytale setting, adorning the aisle and altar with abundant flowers. The enchantment continued into their courtyard reception, where a stunning display of white and red blooms adorned elegant tables illuminated by flickering candles. Under a canopy of twinkling fairy lights, they savored delicious food, danced, and celebrated their love long into the night.

The Stewarts Roam did a fantastic job capturing every detail of the pair’s special day. It’s a magical event you won’t want to miss seeing!

The Wedding:

Casa de Don Andrés de Madariaga y Morales, Cartagena de Indias, Colombia

The Power of Personal Vows in Their Ceremony

It was really important to Mason that we write and say our own vows during the ceremony. Writing them was much harder than I expected because there was so much I wanted to say. Ultimately, I pretended it was just the two of us there and spoke from the heart. We both had a difficult time holding back tears during our vows.

Blending Cultures and Traditions at Their Casa de Don Andrés de Madariaga y Morales Wedding

I have always had a deep passion for traveling, and now Mason and I have crossed many countries off our bucket list. We knew we wanted to plan a destination wedding weekend with multiple events to ensure we could spend plenty of time with each of our guests. Our favorite city in the world is Cartagena, and we knew it was the perfect blend of culture, cuisine, and romance for our wedding. We planned a rooftop welcome party at Movich Hotel and a private island beach party at Blue Apple Beach Club, in addition to the wedding day. While designing the wedding, we wanted to incorporate some authentic Colombian traditions while also bringing our own flare. The ceremony and reception venues themselves offer stunning architecture, and we opted to design the aesthetic to highlight the natural beauty of the spaces.

Navigating Their Casa de Don Andrés de Madariaga y Morales Wedding Mishaps with Grace

We tried to keep our planning fun. At the end of the day, this event is about celebrating your love and commitment to one another. Though it can be stressful, we tried to use it as an excuse to have a planning “date night” together. One valuable piece of advice I received and would happily pass on is this: things might not always go as planned, and that’s perfectly fine. Hardly anyone even notices! For instance, our welcome bags were supposed to be shipped from the States but never arrived. In a spur-of-the-moment decision, we had our weekend itinerary cards handed out as guests entered the welcome party. To our surprise, many attendees approached us to express how delightful it was, completely unaware that there should have been welcome bags in the first place! Ultimately, because I wasn’t fixated on achieving absolute perfection, I found it easier to shrug off minor mishaps and enjoy the occasion to the fullest.

Celebrating the Bride’s Grandmother’s Presence as Their Flower Girl

We were so proud of my 85-year-old grandmother for traveling to Colombia and being our “flower girl.” We have an extraordinarily close relationship, and it meant the world to me to have her as a part of our day. She was an absolute rockstar.

Elevating Their Casa de Don Andrés de Madariaga y Morales Wedding Experience With a Midnight Surprise

We surprised our guests with a Colombian tradition called “Hora Loca” (Crazy Hour). At midnight, there were suddenly costumed performers, feathered dancers, lights, and wild entertainment. It got everyone energized, and the dance floor was packed.

Embrace the Sunshine With These 21 Summer Wedding Ideas

April 6, 2024 | riley
summer wedding

With constant sunshine and warmer temperatures, there’s a reason that summer is one of the most popular seasons for weddings. If you’re tying the knot between May and August, you’re in luck because there’s no shortage of summer wedding ideas and inspiration. To help you plan your special summer day, we’re rounding up 19 of our favorite summer wedding ideas that will keep you and your guests feeling cool. From the best types of weddings to summery color palettes to favors that will help your friends and family beat the heat–we’ve got it all.

Types Of Summer Weddings

Beach

Beach weddings are by far one of the most popular types of summer weddings. There’s just something special about tying the knot while the waves crash behind you and the ocean breeze flows through your hair. It’s an ideal setting for anyone looking for a more laid-back, bohemian vibe for their day.

Garden

If you’re a fan of fairytales and all things whimsical, consider saying “I do” in a garden or greenhouse. The greenery and natural florals serve as beautiful backdrops, making for some incredible photos. It also helps you save money on decor.

Destination

If you and your significant other have a travel destination that is special to you, invite your guests there for a destination wedding. It could be somewhere tropical where you can lay in the sun for hours on end or somewhere in the mountains to cool down from the summer heat–the options are endless. If you have the time to spare, turn it into a weekend-long celebration so you can soak up time in your favorite place.

Vineyard

Whether you’re a wine aficionado or you’re looking for a more rustic aesthetic for your special day, a vineyard makes the perfect wedding venue. With rolling hills, plenty of sunshine, and some delicious food and drinks, there are quite a few benefits to tying the knot in a vineyard. And the best part? You can get a special bottle of wine on your wedding day to save for special occasions like anniversaries or birthdays.

Barns and Farms

To take the rustic aesthetic to the next level, opt for a barn or farm wedding. These venues are typically blank slates that allow for a lot of personalization with decor and florals while still offering a country feel that you can’t find anywhere else.

Backyard

There’s something incredibly romantic about getting married in the backyard of a home that’s special to you or your partner. Backyard weddings are intimate, nostalgic, and budget-friendly. Because they’re not typically used as wedding venues, you have free rein to tailor the decorations to precisely what you’re looking for, no matter what’s on your mood board. If you don’t have a backyard big enough for a wedding but love the idea of a backyard wedding, take a look at Airbnbs!

19 Fun Summer Wedding Ideas

Now that you’ve got an idea of the types of summer weddings available for your big day, here’s a list of our favorite summer wedding ideas for you to use.

1. Destination-themed invites

If you’re jet-setting for your special day, tie in the destination theme with your invitations. You can find personalized invites for your destination all over Etsy–from Greece and Paris to Hawaii and Las Vegas.

2. Minimal wedding decor

One of the best reasons to get married in the summer is that many outdoor venues have built-in decor already. At the beach, you have the sunset and the waves. At a vineyard, there are fields of grapes. Use this to your advantage and let the scenery do the talking.

3. Bright florals

If you do choose to add florals to your summer wedding, consider a bright color palette. Think bright reds, pinks, oranges, and yellows. These bold colors will make your special day feel more tropical, even if you aren’t heading off to a remote island.

4. Short reception dresses

We’re huge fans of reception dresses, and the summer heat is the perfect excuse to change into a shorter hemline for your party. Not only will your guests be shocked by the outfit change, but you’ll also stay cool on and off the dance floor

5. Choose lodging with a pool

Having a destination wedding typically involves booking a room block at a hotel or opting for an Airbnb for your guests. Turn it into a multi-day affair that everyone can enjoy by choosing lodging that has a pool. This way, you can spend your days off lounging around and catching some rays with your loved ones.

6. S’mores bar

One of the best parts of summer is spending the nights outside cooking s’mores over the fire. So bring that fun to your wedding with a s’mores bar. If the wedding is outside and a bonfire is permitted, do it the old-fashioned way. If you’re indoors or unable to have fires, you can set up mini tabletop fire pits using food-safe candles.

7. Welcome beach bags

While guests will most likely bring everything they need for a weekend at the beach, surprise them with welcome beach bags full of goodies you would need for a day under the sun. Fill it with things like a water bottle, snacks, sunscreen, bug repellent, and sunglasses. It’s a fun, easy touch that they will appreciate.

8. Festive favors

If you have too many guests for welcome bags but still want to incorporate the summer season in your favors, consider festive favors. Give gifts like personalized hats or water bottles, flip-flops for the sand, fans, or sunglasses.

9. Lawn games

Dancing is arguably one of the best parts of a wedding, but there are other ways to keep your friends and family entertained if they don’t feel like getting down on the dance floor–like lawn games. Break out the corn hole and oversized Jenga, and they’ll be playing all night long.

10. Coconut water bar

What says summer more than drinking coconut water out of a real coconut? Setting up a coconut water bar is a refreshing way to cool down, and it doubles as an adorable piece of wedding decor.

fruit inspired summer wedding

11. Fresh fruit

Fruit makes for adorable table centerpieces when paired with bold florals and candles, especially citrus fruits like oranges, peaches, lemons, and grapefruits. Citrus fruits give you a bright, colorful palette that ties in beautifully with the season.

12. Seafood bar

If you’re opting for a waterfront ceremony, consider a nautical-themed food bar. You can serve oysters, calamari, mini shrimp cocktail, or sushi–the world is your oyster.

13. Popsicle cocktails

There’s something about summer that reminds us of our childhoods, so bring that essence of nostalgia into your wedding day. Turn popsicles into an adult-only treat by serving cocktails that include mini popsicles in them. Not only do they taste delicious, but they also make for really cute photos.

14. Mini margaritas

One of the hottest cocktails in the warmest months is margaritas. While you could serve them as your signature cocktail, you can also take it up a notch by passing out mini margaritas in small Patron bottles during cocktail hour

15. Drink canoe

Want to showcase your beers and other canned beverages in a unique way? If you’re having an outdoor wedding–specifically one near a lake or one with a summer camp theme–consider a drink canoe. Simply fill up a boat with ice and place your canned drinks throughout for guests to quickly grab throughout the evening.

16. Pool decor

Saying “I do” next to a pool is a surefire way to embrace the summer. If you do decide to go down this route, don’t leave the pool bare. Throw in monogrammed floats, floating lanterns, or retro floats shaped like flamingos and palm trees.

17. Palm leaf florals

Palm leaves are one of the few florals that will never go out of style–especially in the warmer months. Use them in bouquets, backdrops, centerpieces, seating charts, and more. If you’re aiming for a more boho aesthetic but you still want to tie them in, opt for dried palms.

18. Colored suits

There really is no wrong time to wear colored suits, but boy do we love them in summer. Lighter colors will pop, and they’ll also keep you cooler under the sun. Don’t be afraid to experiment with colors like teal, baby blue, yellow, orange, and even beige.

19. Family style BBQ

One of the highlights of summertime is barbecuing outside with friends and family, so why should your wedding be any different? If you’re throwing a laidback backyard wedding, fire up the grill and treat your guests to your favorite BBQ foods.

20. Alfresco dining

For a dinner party feel, host your reception dinner under the stars in the warm air. It’s an easy and romantic way to take advantage of the beautiful weather. Bonus points for the whimsical feeling that comes from eating outside with your loved ones.

21. Ice cream

No wedding is complete without a sweet treat. Even if you opt for a traditional wedding cake, treat your guests to a late-night snack of ice cream to help cool them off. There’s nothing we love more than when couples hire one of their favorite ice cream trucks for the end of the night.

Now that you’ve got all of your summer wedding ideas fresh in mind, it’s time to dive in even more. Check out our guides to a backyard wedding, destination wedding, or an Airbnb wedding to keep your planning train on track.

This Pastel Villa Valentini Bonaparte Wedding is the Epitome of Romantic

April 6, 2024 | justine

Choosing the right venue for your special day is crucial as it sets the mood for the entire celebration. It influences everything from the color palette and decor to the overall atmosphere, and this was the case for Savannah and Bennett’s Villa Valentini Bonaparte wedding. They envisioned their day as a charming garden dinner party, with only their nearest and dearest in attendance. With the help of Junebug vendor and planner The Tuscan Wedding, they absolutely nailed it!

At their garden ceremony, a gorgeous pathway lined with pastel flowers led to a gazebo overflowing with blooms, creating a lovely setting for their heartfelt vows. But the floral influences didn’t stop there.  The party afterward featured tables adorned with lush arrangements and the soft glow of candles. Adding to the enchantment, sparkling fairy lights wrapped around, making the whole celebration feel like a magical storybook scene.

The special touches, paired with the beautiful setting, made this event truly remarkable, filled with love and individuality. For a closer look at all the beautiful moments and unique details from this romantic celebration, continue scrolling through these stunning photos captured by Elle Reaux.

Bringing their Dream Villa Valentini Bonaparte Wedding to Life With the Help of Trusted Vendors

Our design evolved over the almost two-year planning process. The villa was such a huge focal point that we wanted to keep our color palette within the same family and add complimentary pops of color. Overall, we wanted our day to feel like a romantic garden dinner party with an intimate guest list of only our closest friends and family. From the lush garden-style ceremony to the al fresco dinner overlooking the Tuscan hills, our team of vendors helped us bring our vision to life!

Personalizing The Ceremony Through Collaboration With Their Officiant and Custom Vows

We personalized our ceremony by working closely with our celebrant, Diana, to write vows reflecting our love for each other. Diana also met with us multiple times to better understand our love story and put it beautifully into words in our ceremony. We worked on these vows separately and heard each other for the first time at the altar. They were also beautifully transcribed by our talented calligrapher, Asha. After the ceremony, we were driven away in a white Maggiolone convertible, a personal touch that added some fun to our day.

Crafting a Personalized Wedding Fragrance

We worked with our wedding planner and florist to create a personalized wedding fragrance, which we provided to each of our guests to create a scent memory and allow them to bring the experience home.

Defining Priorities and Collaborating With a Trusted Vendor Team

Set your priorities early and decide what is and isn’t part of your dream wedding. For example, we compromised by having a small guest list (less than 40 people total) and getting married earlier in the year, before peak season. Having the right team makes all the difference. Our wedding planner connected us to some of the top vendors and explored our ideas with complete transparency and her knowledge of the wedding industry. Our photographer had an uncanny sense of our wedding vision.

Villa Valentini Bonaparte: A Venue Steeped in History and Romance

Villa Valentini Bonaparte is both a beautiful venue and a love story. One of Napoleon’s nieces constructed it to be closer to her husband, who was in exile in Florence. Savannah and I connected to this history because we spent years apart due to our careers, as we each knew we would build a villa for the other.

Setting the Scene with a Romantic Welcome Party Dinner

We would be remiss not to mention our welcome party dinner. Set in the evening, as our guests arrived, the atmosphere was relaxed but lively. The vibe was more earthy and organic, with a nod to the Tuscan scenery. All guests were seated around one long table, making the night feel like a long-awaited return home of loved ones. We wrapped up the night, joining in on a long-standing Italian tradition, the making of the Millefoglie.

This Couple Brought The Outdoors Inside At Their Natural Whispering Thorns Wedding

April 4, 2024 | justine

Kayla and Daniël opted for a natural theme for their wedding due to their profound love for nature. Despite their preference for an indoor setting, they aimed to capture the essence of the outdoors. This led them to select Junebug vendor and venue Whispering Thorns, a decision that proved to be just right as it aligned perfectly with their vision. Their big day exuded an ethereal and modern vibe, featuring a charming glass venue and chapel, dreamy florals, and timeless attire.

With breathtaking views of the Lowveld grasslands surrounding them, the venue’s contemporary design and indoor-outdoor ambiance provided the ideal backdrop for the festivities. The ceremony unfolded against a stunning panorama of the property, creating a picturesque scene. As guests moved to the lavish reception, they were welcomed by tablescapes adorned with candles and lush arrangements. To add a final touch of elegance, a glittering ceiling installation cast a soft glow over the space, enhancing the romantic atmosphere.

How Nature Inspired Their Whispering Thorns Wedding

We picked a natural theme for our wedding because we love nature. The venue, especially the glass chapel, matched this theme perfectly and made us feel like we were part of the outdoors. We chose Whispering Thorns because we wanted to be indoors while feeling close to nature. The glass chapel was just right for our dream wedding.

Making Memories During the Whispering Thorns Wedding Planning Process

The best part of our day was celebrating with loved ones. Our advice for couples? Treasure every step of planning your wedding. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience, so savor every moment.

Farm-to-Table Wedding Favors That Came From the Family Farm

We chose to give honey in beautiful glass bottles as wedding favors. This idea aligned perfectly with our theme and added a personal touch to our celebration. The honey came from my parents-in-law’s farm, making it even more special. We gathered together to create these lovely favors, which looked beautiful on the tables at the wedding.

Wedding Ceremony Timeline and Tips for Personalizing the Script

April 3, 2024 | kailey

Image by Manuel Aldana. See more of this real wedding here.

A wedding ceremony is more than just exchanging vows. With so many moving pieces, it’s crucial to iron out the details well before walking down the aisle. That’s why many host a rehearsal dinner the day before to make certain that everyone is on the same page. Having a clear wedding ceremony timeline also helps to ensure that everyone knows their role—from the officiant and DJ to key family members, the wedding party, and, of course, the couple.

A clear timeline to refer back to is essential. But there tends to be a lot of confusion when it comes to actually creating a timeline. What comes first? How many readings should you incorporate? When does the unity ceremony take place? These are all valid questions. That’s why we’ve put together a traditional wedding ceremony timeline for you to reference. But keep in mind every wedding is unique, including the timeline and script.

This guide can help you decide what to keep and what to skip. We’ve also included some tips on how to personalize the script, ensuring it authentically reflects your love story and vision for the day.

Wedding Ceremony Timeline

1. Guests Get Seated

At any ceremony, the first step is always guiding guests to their seats. You can hire ushers or dedicate vendors–like your wedding planner–to take on this role. You can also rely on signage to direct your guests to the correct places. Traditionally, important family members like grandparents, parents, and siblings are included in the processional, so reserve the first row for them.

2. Processional Begins

Just before the procession begins, your officiant will take their place. When the music starts, it’s the first partner’s cue to walk down the aisle, followed by important family members like grandparents, parents, and possibly siblings. Then comes the wedding party. Bridesmaids and groomsmen can choose to walk down separately or pair up—it’s your call. Once everyone is in position, the music will change, guests will rise, and the next partner will make her grand entrance down the aisle.

3. Opening Remarks From the Officiant

Once everyone is settled, the officiant will say a few words to welcome and thank everyone on behalf of the couple. This part of the ceremony is typically short and heartfelt. In religious ceremonies, the officiant may also include a prayer.

Image by Memorelle. See more of this real wedding here.

4. Readings

This part of the ceremony carries special meaning, which is why couples often have a trusted officiant or a close family member conduct the readings. Whoever you choose to deliver these heartfelt words, it’s essential this section is tailored to reflect your relationship.

The readings you select will be influenced by whether your wedding is religious or not. For religious ceremonies, readings can come from sacred texts like the Bible or Torah. However, in non-religious ceremonies, readings can be poems or personal anecdotes. It’s all about choosing sweet words that resonate with you both.

5. Exchanging of Vows

You and your guests are going to want to have tissues handy for this emotional part of the wedding ceremony. The exchanging of vows is an intimate moment where you both express your commitment to each other. You have the option to recite traditional vows provided by your officiant or fully personalize the ceremony by writing your own vows

We’ve also seen many couples opt to read their vows privately before the ceremony, often during the first look. This can be a great option for those who aren’t comfortable wearing their heart on their sleeve for all their loved ones to see. There’s no right or wrong way to do it. It’s truly all about what feels most authentic to you as a couple.

6. Include a Unity Ceremony in Your Wedding Ceremony Timeline

A unity ceremony is an optional wedding tradition that symbolizes two lives coming together as one. Oftentimes, it’s a ritual with religious or cultural significance, though this isn’t always the case. Whether you go the traditional route or in a unique direction, this is still an extremely special way for a couple to personalize their wedding. It adds a sweet and sentimental touch that beautifully represents your love.

7. Ring Exchange

After exchanging all the heartfelt words, it’s time to exchange wedding rings. Your officiant will guide you as you each slip the ring onto each other’s fingers, one at a time. These rings symbolize your love and commitment that you’ll proudly wear long beyond your wedding day.

If you want to ditch physical jewelry altogether,, get matching wedding ring tattoos—a one-of-a-kind wedding detail that challenges tradition.

8. Pronouncement and First Kiss

“I now pronounce you…” are the magical words everyone’s been waiting for. This is the moment when you’re officially recognized as a married couple. It’s time for your first kiss as newlyweds and time to soak up the excitement from your guests before making your grand exit from the ceremony space.

Image by Skyler & Vhan Photography. See more of this real wedding here.

9. Recessional

The recessional marks the grand finale after your officiant declares you married. This kickstarts the walk back down the aisle. First, the newlyweds lead the way, followed by their wedding party. To add an extra touch of magic to the moment, consider having guests toss petals or confetti to create a stunning photo opportunity.

Tips for Personalizing the Script

After breaking down the traditional ceremony timeline and its components, it’s time to consider how you can elevate your script. Since there’s no one-size-fits-all ceremony, we’re leaving you with some tips to ensure your script is tailored to you and your unique love story.

1. Have a Family Member or Friend Officiant

No one knows you better than your loved ones. So, having someone close to you officiate your wedding can add an incredibly personal touch to your ceremony. This individual knows you both inside and out, allowing them to convey your love beautifully.

Image by Andrea & Federica. See more of this real wedding here.

2. Get Loved Ones Included During Processional

There are no rules when it comes to your wedding. So, if you want to include more special people in your processional, do it. You can have your dog play ring bearer, your grandma be the flower girl, etc.

3. Write Your Own Vows

Writing your own vows is a powerful way to add meaning to your ceremony script. It’s your opportunity to pour your heart out, vocalizing why you’ve fallen for this person. You can also share personal stories that brought you to this moment at the altar. It’s your chance to scream your love from the mountaintops for all to hear.

4. Trade Traditional Readings for Personal Anecdotes

Sharing letters expressing why you love each other and memorable stories gives your officiant insight into your relationship. By incorporating these anecdotes into the readings, they can add an extra layer of personalization to your ceremony script.

5. Use Music to Enhance Your Ceremony

Music sets the tone for your wedding day, including your ceremony. Your choice of processional and recessional songs can personalize the moment. So, when making your music selections, carefully consider your playlist. Make sure only to pick songs that resonate with you and your partner.

6. Get Guests Involved

Get your guests involved during the ceremony by including something like a ring-warming ceremony where the rings are passed around to all of the guests to bless before they’re exchanged by the couple.

How Their KIMA Tulum Destination Wedding Came to Be

Nestled in the tropical paradise of Tulum, Kima is like a dream come true. We found it online and instantly fell in love. Its natural colors and Mediterranean-style architecture are simply stunning. The unique layout makes you feel like you’re in a fancy backyard. We also love how private and exclusive the location feels. I adore flowers, so I wanted a place where we could add some beautiful blooms. We aimed for a small, cozy wedding celebration with a cocktail-party vibe, and Kima was the perfect fit.

Emotional Vows and a Cherished First Look at Their KIMA Tulum Destination Wedding

The most unforgettable moment of our wedding was exchanging our vows. Reading those promises to each other filled us with so much emotion and joy. Another cherished memory was our first look, seeing each other for the very first time on our special day. It was a deeply moving and beautiful experience that we’ll always treasure.

Tips for Planning a Wedding That Feels Authentic

Our advice to couples planning their weddings is simple: stay true to yourselves! If you have strong feelings about certain aspects of your big day, don’t let others convince you otherwise. Trusting your instincts and following your heart is important, even if some think you’re going overboard. You don’t want to look back with regret later on. So, embrace your vision and make your wedding reflect who you are as a couple.

Navigating Budget Surprises and Unexpected Costs in Destination Weddings

We were surprised by how much we spent on flowers and lighting for our wedding. Our original budget was $20,000, but by the end, it had increased to $38,000. We hadn’t realized that the wedding market in Tulum, MX, was pricier than we had anticipated. We decided to splurge on the flowers, not realizing how much it would impact our budget. It’s important for other couples to be aware of potential cost increases in destination wedding locations like Tulum and to plan accordingly to avoid similar surprises.

Where to Save and Where to Splurge on Your Wedding Day

March 28, 2024 | kailey

Visualize your wedding budget as a puzzle. Various pieces need to fit together in order to bring your dream celebration to life. That’s why it’s crucial to discuss finances with your partner beyond just setting an overall budget. You’ll need to break down the percentage allocated to each category, such as catering, florals, fashion, and more.

While there’s no shortage of advice on what to do and what not to do during wedding planning, it’s important to recognize that there are no concrete rules, especially when it comes to budgeting. Every couple’s financial situation and wedding priorities will be unique, which should give you some relief.

Fortunately, there are ways to rework your budget to pull off your dream wedding. For those who wonder where to save versus where to save, here are some Junebug vendor-approved strategies on where to save versus splurge on your wedding day.

Where to Save During Wedding Planning?

Save on Venue Costs by Choosing a Weekday or Off-Peak Date

Your venue plays an important role in our wedding theme and aesthetic. So, if you’ve found the perfect venue space but it’s a little outside your budget, skip the Saturday celebration for a weekday or Sunday wedding. Going with an off-peak time based on the local seasons will also save you the money you can allocate towards different wedding details.

Trim Your Guest List

Photographer Lynn Shapiro Photography suggests you can save money by trimming your guest list. By keeping your guest count on the smaller side, you can allocate more of your budget toward your photographer and other vendors, ensuring you have exactly what you want for your special day.

Skip Bridesmaids Proposals

Popping the question to your bridesmaids has become an internet sensation thanks to social media. With many going all out with full bridesmaid-themed boxes, this proposal isn’t cheap. But we’re here to remind you that you can skip the massive gift boxes and reallocate that money towards other wedding expenses. Saving this money at the beginning of your wedding planning journey will ensure you’re leaving room in your budget for unplanned finances down the line.

Repurpose Ceremony Decor During Your Reception

When it comes to decorating your ceremony space, there are so many details to consider. You have to think about the backdrop, seating, floral arrangements, signage, and so much more. That takes a lot of time, effort, and money. Replicating this effort for the reception just adds to the financial and planning stresses. To alleviate this, consider repurposing your ceremony decor for the reception.

For instance, your ceremony backdrop can serve as a charming sweetheart table backdrop. Bridesmaid’s bouquets can be used as centerpieces, adding a cohesive decor touch. Repurposing chairs around reception tables can reduce those rental costs. The possibilities are truly endless, and with the help of a planner, you can brainstorm more creative ways to repurpose decor.

Have a Limited Bar

Having a limited reception bar doesn’t mean resorting to a cash bar. You can still offer an open bar at your wedding, but choose to provide limited alcohol options. Consider offering beer and wine, forgoing the more expensive spirits. Additionally, some venues allow couples to purchase their own alcohol, providing another opportunity to save money. Although this may add another task to your wedding checklist, it can result in significant savings in the long run.

Alternative Dessert Options

While you may envision a grand five-tiered wedding cake to share with all your guests, it might not be the most practical choice financially. Instead, consider opting for a smaller wedding cake to enjoy with your partner and for the cake-cutting photo. For guests, offer alternative dessert options such as donuts, s’mores, or other treats. This not only saves on costs but also adds a sense of variety.

Skip Physical Wedding Favors

Instead of spending hundreds of dollars on guest favors that may be left behind, consider investing that money into another must-have wedding detail. But what if you want to save this money but don’t want to skip favors? Get creative with some cost-effective ideas.

There are many special–and free–ideas to show your appreciation without breaking the bank. One of our favorites is to create a custom playlist for guests to remember your big day. This not only saves money but also provides guests with an enjoyable keepsake from your wedding.

Where to Splurge on Your Wedding Day?

Photographer and Videographer

It’s no surprise that photographers and videographers top our list of wedding splurges. Your wedding day is a special occasion filled with unforgettable moments, and hiring a top-notch photographer and videographer ensures that these moments are captured and preserved forever. By entrusting professionals, you can focus on soaking up those soon-to-be memories without the stress of trying to document every moment yourself.

Day-Of Coordinator or Wedding Planner

When it comes to recruiting planning help, you have two options: a wedding planner or a day-of coordinator. A wedding planner assists you throughout the entire planning process, from start to finish. A day-of coordinator typically steps in during the final weeks leading up to your big day to ensure everything runs smoothly. Regardless of which option you choose, do yourself a favor and splurge on this vendor.

Music and Entertainment

Music plays a crucial role in setting the tone for every aspect of a wedding day, which is why it’s on our splurge list. From the walk down the aisle to the first dance and mother-son dance, the right songs can enhance these important moments. While music will impact the overall vibe of the day, your choice of DJ or live music will also be responsible for getting your guests to hit the dance floor during the reception.

Splurge on Your Wedding Day with Food and Catering

When planning a wedding, it’s standard to provide a variety of food options for your guests. Your choice of food can impact the overall guest experience, and unfortunately, in the wedding industry, this isn’t cheap. So, whether you opt for a plated meal, buffet, or grab-and-go food truck options, it’s essential not to skimp on catering. This will save you from having a group of hungry guests hitting the dance floor with rumbling stomachs.

Setting a budget is typically one of the first wedding planning tasks you’ll take care of. Unfortunately, it’s all too common for couples to underestimate wedding costs. This can be incredibly frustrating, especially if you’re working with a tight budget.

To avoid this situation, it’s essential to have realistic budget expectations from the start. Understand where you want to save versus splurge on your wedding day. This will give you a better understanding of the wedding expenses involved and allow you to plan accordingly. So, before moving forward, check out our expected vs realistic wedding costs breakdown so there are no surprises down the line.

This Tropical Villa Bokeh Wedding Was Inspired by Valentine’s Day

March 27, 2024 | justine

Ashley has family in Antigua, Guatemala, and when Brice visited for the first time, he fell in love with it, too–so it only made sense that the two tied the knot in one of their favorite places. Thanks to their incredible team of vendors, they achieved the classic tropical atmosphere they aimed for. Set in a restored luxury hacienda, their Villa Bokeh wedding featured a red and magenta color palette and tropical florals and decor that perfectly complemented the historic atmosphere of their venue.

One of the most memorable parts of the wedding was the venue, with its breathtaking gardens, patios, and intertwined ponds. The stunning courtyard ruins created an incredible setting for the couple’s heartfelt vows. But that’s not all. The outdoor reception in the garden was absolutely stunning. The tables were beautifully set with colorful centerpieces, and gorgeous chandeliers hung overhead, casting a romantic glow that perfectly matched the enchanting surroundings.

With guests coming from all corners of the globe to join in the celebrations, the couple infused their three-day extravaganza with their own unique style. They added personal touches inspired by Valentine’s Day to every moment, making their special day unforgettable. Photographer Manuel Aldana expertly captured the essence of their wedding, showcasing the magic of their love and celebration, so. if you’re looking for unconventional inspiration for your own big day, make sure not to miss experiencing the enchantment of theirs.

From Family Ties to Tropical Vibes: The Inspiration Behind Their Villa Bokeh Wedding

Brice and I knew Antigua, Guatemala, was the perfect wedding location for us. I still have family living in Guatemala, and as soon as Brice visited for the first time, he loved it. We decided to marry on Valentine’s Day and went for a classic, colorful, tropical feel. We chose magenta and red as our wedding colors and used them throughout the decor and details of our day. This created a beautiful contrast against the plaster, beige, tan, and brown ruins of Santa Clara Convento, where we got married, and Villa Bokeh, where we hosted our reception, dinner, and after-party.

Embracing Classic, Romantic, Playful Styles with Three Stunning Bridal Looks

I had always seen myself as a classic, timeless bride. My dress had a simple fitted silhouette, off-the-shoulder detail, open back with covered buttons, and for the ceremony, I wore a long veil with floral appliqué flowers–14 to be exact–to match our wedding date. My second dress for dinner and the reception was a slinky silk slip gown with a high slit, ruffled chiffon trim, and a train with a low back. It was perfect for our romantic dinner reception and looked beautiful for our first dance. My third and final look was out of the ordinary for me, but I loved it! I paired a red mini dress with floral lace appliqués with strappy pink sandals featuring a magenta pink flower. The look was perfect for a Valentine’s Day after-party, and I felt beautiful wearing a pop of red; my husband loved this dress.

Turning Their Villa Bokeh Wedding into a Memorable Haven Through a Unique Tablescape

Our florist brought our vision to life. For our dinner party, we had a horseshoe-shaped tablescape with vine-wrapped crystal chandeliers, hand-torn menus printed on recycled flower paper made by a local artisan from the Mercado, a wax stamp with our initials, and our signature magenta and red florals lining the tables. I couldn’t believe it when I saw it for the first time. Our vision exceeded my expectations. Most guests flew in from New York, Canada, Europe, and Miami. They knew nothing about Guatemala, so one of the most special parts of the wedding was bringing people to a place they would not usually visit without a reason. We planned everything from afar, and we loved every detail so much that there was not one thing we would change.

From Engagement to “I Do” in Three Months

Enjoy the process and go with the flow when things seem not working out exactly as you had envisioned. We planned our wedding in three months, got engaged in late August, chose Antigua, Guatemala as our location in September, and had our venue reserved by November and sent out save the dates right away. We had to sacrifice some things: we got married during the week, and Valentine’s Day was on a Tuesday, so most of our guests flew in on Sunday and stayed for the week. Weekends were completely booked at every venue we had considered so during the week was the only option for us if we wanted to get married in February 2023. Although I initially thought it was not ideal, getting married on February 14th, 2023, was so special.

Crafting a Three-Day Wedding Extravaganza

I am most proud of the details of all the events we planned for our guests. We hosted three days of celebrations for the wedding. On Monday, February 13th, we hosted a welcome party with typical Guatemalan food, a live music band playing salsa, and our best friends made speeches. There was a volcano erupting in the background while guests danced and mingled, which was something none of the guests had seen before. The 14th included Santa Clara Convento and Villa Bokeh, two stunning locations in Antigua, along with fireworks, pasta with Lorocco prepared byour chef at Villa Bokeh, plus choripan at midnight on the dance floor. On the 15th, we hosted a pool party at Villa Bokeh with a typical breakfast spread, a hot tortilla station, micheladas and caldo de gallina, a typical chicken broth soup, which is excellent after a night out, and mimosas. The pool party was a perfect way to end the three-day party.

This Minimalistic Masía Aldamar Wedding Was a Fairytale Come to Life

March 26, 2024 | justine

A historic winery and oil mill turned wedding venue adorned with lush florals and pared-back decor—Elena and Roberto’s Masía Aldamar wedding combined rustic charm with a minimalist luxurious style. The pair aimed to highlight their venue’s Mediterranean vibe complemented with thoughtful and understated elegance, and they succeeded perfectly. Their big day was just what they dreamed of: beautiful, relaxed, and full of love.

Nestled among tall trees, their ceremony spot was naturally stunning. To enhance it, they lined the aisle with vibrant flowers, leading to a beautiful altar adorned with floral pillars and a cozy loveseat. Later, they created a sophisticated atmosphere at the reception, with all-white tables decorated with delicate centerpieces, elegant table settings, and soft candlelight, setting the stage for a truly romantic evening.

If understated, sophisticated, and elevated sounds like your dream aesthetic, draw inspiration from these stunning photos captured by Junebug vendor and photographers People Truelove Tellers.

The Couple:

Elena and Roberto

The Wedding:

Masía Aldamar, Chiva, Valencia, Spain

Choosing Minimalist-Romantic Vibes for Their Masía Aldamar Wedding

We opted for a minimalist-romantic design that fit with the Mediterranean and relaxed vibe of the venue. We wanted every detail to convey elegance, sensitivity, and movement to give the day a magical aura and wanted each element to have meaning to us within the wedding narrative. I photographed a wedding there as a photographer and saw the possibilities of the space. I fell in love with its clean, Mediterranean details and the flexibility of Plan A, B, or Z.  When Roberto saw it on the visit, he also fell in love, so we didn’t have to look anymore. It was our first and only choice.

How the Bride Honored Family Legacy Through Her Reception Dress

I was clear about what I wanted for my wedding dress: a boat neck neckline, simple and elegant, without any embroidery or lace. I wanted a fabric that felt nice and didn’t wrinkle much, with a subtle detail for movement. When I found the dress in the store, it wasn’t flashy or impressive, but it felt like me. I knew I’d enjoy wearing it like it was made just for me. As for the second dress, which we redesigned for the party, it had a special meaning. It was the wedding dress my mother wore 35 years ago in 1989, which my grandmother had designed and hand-embroidered. I discussed with my family the idea of altering it to fit my figure so I could wear it for the wedding dance as a surprise for everyone. They all loved the idea, and it was beautiful to share this secret with them during the wedding preparations. Seeing the excited faces of my parents, aunts, and loved ones at that moment was priceless.

The Unforeseen Value of Hiring a Wedding Planner

If you can, have a wedding planner help you with it. You don’t understand the value of their work until you are a few months away from the wedding, and the tasks and tension increase by the moment. For us, having the help of Ensálzate was essential for the day to turn out as incredible as it did. It certainly made a difference that we could never have achieved alone.

Striking Wedding Budget Balance Through Smart Spending

We set aside money for most of our wedding expenses, except for the banquet, which we planned to cover with gifts from our guests. Our overall budget turned out as expected. We may have spent a bit more ensuring everything was perfect, but we’re delighted with how it turned out. Our wedding day was extraordinary, and we believe it’s worth saving extra for because the memories will last a lifetime. We ended up spending around €35,000 – €40,000. We saved money by skipping live music groups but treated ourselves by splurging on a tower of champagne glasses.

Crafting the Perfect Floral Scheme for Their Masía Aldamar Wedding by Collaborating with the Experts

The color scheme for the flowers and details was clear to me. I met with the wedding planner and the florist to discuss the available flower options for the wedding date, ensuring it would be within our budget. Together, we designed how to decorate the space. We also visited the venue to see how to bring these ideas to life and chose between two options. Their advice and vision were crucial in making the final result successful on the big day.

The Symbolism Behind Their  Masía Aldamar Wedding Favors

Inspired by my father’s suggestion, we decided to give the men a bottle of wine. It was our way of symbolizing the continuation of celebrating good times together. For the women, we chose pendants with the symbol of the Tree of Life, a suggestion from my mother-in-law. This symbolized the roots and fruits of life, signifying the special moments we share on a day as significant as our wedding.

Adding Personal Flair: From Paper Masks to Personalized Urns

We embraced DIY projects for our wedding, adding personal touches to make the day even more special. One of our creations was an urn placed at the reception, inviting guests to share their wishes for us as a couple. Each table featured envelopes containing an “Anti-Hangover Kit,” a fun and thoughtful gesture for our guests. Our loved ones also contributed surprise gifts, adding to the warmth and joy of the celebration. Additionally, we crafted paper masks that became a hit at the party, adding an element of fun and playfulness to the festivities. These DIY endeavors added a unique and personal flair to our wedding, making it truly unforgettable for everyone involved.
