Colorfully Timeless Marigny Opera House Destination Wedding

June 23, 2024 | justine

With guests flying in from around the world, Laura and Stuart wanted to make sure their big day was unforgettable for everyone. They focused on filling their celebration with love, joy, lively music, and delicious food. That’s why they chose New Orleans, a city known for its vibrant energy. With their unique venue setting the tone, their Marigny Opera House destination wedding became a colorful and timeless event that perfectly matched their vision.

They chose the historic former church turned opera house as the perfect backdrop for their vows. The space was adorned with black Bentwood Thonet chairs and beautiful aisle arrangements. After the ceremony, they embraced the NOLA tradition with a second-line parade through the streets. Upon returning to the opera house, the celebration continued with a reception featuring long tables adorned with flowers, candles, and gold settings.

On their wedding day, the couple’s dedication and effort were evident to all. The destination celebration was full of energy, leaving a lasting impact on everyone present. Junebug vendor Dallas and Sabrina skillfully captured the enchantment with breathtaking photos, highlighting the personal touches that made the day truly unforgettable.

The Couple:

Laura and Stuart

The Wedding:

Marigny Opera House, New Orleans, Louisiana, United States

Why They Chose Marigny Opera House Destination Wedding

We opted for a destination wedding because, while we live in London, all our family and friends are spread across the US and the UK. This meant there would never be one convenient city for everyone on our list. So, we chose a place where no one lived, but it was one of our dream destinations. New Orleans is so colorful and full of life and history, and the food is incredible, so it felt like the perfect place. Once we decided on the city, I started researching venues and fell in love with the Marigny Opera House, which inspired the design of the entire wedding. Overall, no stone was left unturned for this wedding—from the colors to the flowers, the food, and the drinks. We spent a lot of time creating something that felt like us but also that people would enjoy.

A Sweet and Short Yet Personal Ceremony

Our entire ceremony was incredibly sweet and personal. Our dear friend Emily Sears officiated, which made it even more special. We also wrote our own vows, adding a personal touch that meant a lot to us. The ceremony was perfect—short and sweet, just the way we wanted it. The intimate atmosphere and the heartfelt words made it a moment we’ll always cherish.

Drawing Design Inspiration from Marigny Opera House

The Marigny Opera House has stunning, colorful floors that inspired our color palette. We used the rich rust color for the chair pads on our Bentwood Thonet chairs, the lilac tone in our florals, black for our bridal party dresses, and the shoulder bows on my wedding dress. The floors influenced our design choices, inspiring an eclectic and colorful yet elegant theme. Despite our winter wedding, we avoided a traditional “wintery” feel. We also love vintage furniture and made sure to include it. We created a mood board for our wedding planner, who helped us find the right vendors to achieve our vision.

Savoring Authentic Creole Cuisine and Crafting Signature Cocktails

For the food, our top priority was authentic Creole/Cajun cuisine, which tasted amazing. During the cocktail hour, we had a raw oyster bar and passed Creole bites. For dinner, we featured a Creole rice bar with various toppings and sides. It was delicious. Cocktails were equally important to us, so we spent much time choosing our signature drinks. We partnered with Chopin Vodka and Mezcal Campante to create special cocktails. We had a Bloody Mary bar with ZingZang mix, vodka or mezcal options, and add-ons like pickled okra. We each chose a signature cocktail—one with vodka and one with mezcal.

Bringing a New Orleans Tradition to Their Marigny Opera House Destination Wedding

Since none of our family members are from New Orleans, many have never heard of a second-line parade. So when the Kinfolk Jazz Band showed up, it was really fun to see everyone’s reaction to the fact that we were about to embark on a police-escorted foot parade around the neighborhood. My Midwestern aunts kept telling me what a “hoot” it was.

Navigating the Challenges of a Destination Wedding with a Trusted Wedding Planner

Get a good wedding planner you trust—it’s worth the money, especially for a destination wedding. Planning a wedding in New Orleans while living in London is no joke. We tried to visit in person to plan and meet vendors, but Hurricane Ida hit New Orleans the week we were supposed to go, so we got stuck in New York. Leading up to our wedding day, we had never even set foot in our venue, so we relied on our planner to get things right, and they did!

Starting the Celebration with Personalized Souvenirs at Their Marigny Opera House Destination Wedding Welcome Party

Upon returning to the venue after the second-line parade, we welcomed everyone with shots of Mezcal Campante and a bite of dark chocolate to kick off the party. These were served in custom shot glasses featuring our names and wedding dates, which guests were welcome to keep as souvenirs. We wanted to give something useful and not too bulky, especially since everyone had traveled for the wedding.

This Mildred B. Cooper Chapel Wedding Was Full of Bold Colors and Personal Touches

June 22, 2024 | justine

Jessica and Ryan wanted their wedding day to truly represent their style and vibe. With a love of color, they wanted vendors that were able to bring their bold vision to life.  With a unique wedding venue, a vibrant color palette, and eye-catching florals, they transformed their Mildred B. Cooper Chapel wedding venue into the ultimate wedding space.

With its striking architecture, soaring vaulted steel and glass ceilings, and floor-to-ceiling windows that reveal the sky and surrounding forest, the hilltop Gothic-inspired chapel was the perfect setting for their ceremony. The reception that followed took place in a beautifully repurposed mid-century car dealership turned printing house, featuring wooden barrel ceilings, exposed brick walls, and polished concrete floors, making the space an ideal backdrop for their celebration.

If you’ve ever wondered how to weave your unique personality and interests into every part of your celebration to create a cohesive and elegant theme, then this wedding is a must-see. The stunning photos taken by Junebug vendor Boston Mountain Photo Collective truly capture the essence of their love story and the special day they created.

Adding Color to Their Mildred B. Cooper Chapel Wedding and Expressing Themselves Through Their Vendors

We wanted our wedding day, vibe, and style to represent us. We wanted lots of color and to express ourselves through our vendors. We wanted to share the things we loved with all of our guests. We chose the Mildred B. Cooper Chapel and location to share our love of architecture. We decided to meet up at a brewery between the ceremony and reception to share our love of beer, and we even chose to host breakfast the following day at Onyx coffee shop to share our love of coffee. Our wedding day was designed to take our friends and family on a journey of our love for each other.

Adding Meaning Through Personalized Elements

We personalized our ceremony with our music choices and vows, incorporating religion and a traditional rosary blessing and highlighting our grandmothers as our flower girls.

Memorable Wedding Highlights

Ryan: My most memorable part of the ceremony was watching the chapel doors open, and her walk down the aisle. My most memorable part of the reception was our private last dance together. Jessica: My most memorable part of the ceremony was our first touch, and for the reception was slaying our first dance together.

Their Trusted Vendors Made Long-Distance Planning a Breeze

We were so proud of selecting our vendors from out of town. They all made it easy to coordinate from afar and were very accommodating. They all came through and exceeded our expectations. We felt very welcomed even though we did not live there. It really made it feel like a small-town community vibe. Researching the vendors through social media was crucial for planning a successful wedding from out of town.

Bringing Their Loved Ones Together was the Focus of Their Big Day

The most important aspect of planning our wedding was creating opportunities to connect with our family and friends throughout the day. We knew they had traveled far to support us, and we wanted to curate an enjoyable weekend for them.

Honeymoon-Inspired Wedding Favors

We gave out Spanish olive oil infused with rosemary because we were going to Spain for our honeymoon.

This Cape Fahn Hotel Wedding Was an Enchanted Forest Come to Life

June 20, 2024 | justine

Haru and Kai aimed to whisk their guests away to a secret paradise, and as soon as they set eyes on their venue, they instantly fell in love. Drawing inspiration from lush greenery, wildflowers, and cascading foliage, they amplified the mystical atmosphere of an enchanted forest at their Cape Fahn Hotel wedding. They balanced these untamed elements with classic touches, creating a perfect blend of natural beauty and timeless elegance.

With endless sea views as their backdrop, the couple exchanged their vows at a cliff overlooking the water. Adorned with delicate wild blooms, the ceremony area was beautifully styled, creating a perfect setting for their “I do’s.” Their terrace reception continued the stunning theme with earthy table decor and the soft glow of candles adding to the ambiance. Romantic lighting was key, with a curtain of fairy lights hanging overhead, casting a magical glow over the entire celebration.

If you want to see all the amazing details they carefully curated, these captivating photos taken by KEERATI S. show the whole story. You’ll find lots of inspiration to create your own romantic waterfront celebration.

The Couple:

Haru and Kai

The Wedding:

Cape Fahn Hotel, Thailand

How They Crafted Their Enchanted Cape Fahn Hotel Wedding Amid Nature’s Splendor

Our wedding radiated with an enchanting fusion of nature-inspired elements, weaving together the essence of an “enchanted wilds greeneries” concept. We aimed to whisk our guests away into a seamless realm where warmth and heartfelt connections intertwined. Drawing inspiration from lush greenery, wildflowers, and cascading foliage, we amplified the mystical atmosphere of the enchanted forest. Our dedicated wedding terrace, boasting breathtaking vistas extending from the cliff’s edge to the coastline, offered the perfect, romantic open-air venue. We meticulously balanced untamed elements with classic touches such as elegant candles and rattan chairs, crafting a harmonious blend of styles.

Making Every Guest Feel Special With Private Conversations

I am most proud of the intimate atmosphere we created, surrounded by our closest friends and family. Additionally, I am proud of the personal touches we incorporated into every aspect of the wedding, reflecting our unique personalities and love story. What I wanted was for our wedding to be not only about the bride and groom but for everyone to enjoy it. We wanted the main focus to be more than just Kai and me; we wanted to highlight everyone. Since I hadn’t invited many people, just my closest friends and family, I asked everyone to stand on the stage and talk to us.

Wedding Planning Wisdom: Prioritize What Matters

One valuable piece of wedding planning advice I’d like to share is prioritizing what truly matters to you and your partner. Focus on the aspects of the wedding that reflect your personality and values rather than getting caught up in trying to meet others’ expectations. For me, the floral design, menu design, and name card design were the things I liked the most. Every bride must go to Pinterest to find as much inspiration as possible to determine what they want the most. Finding an excellent wedding planner to bring your vision to life is essential. Next, let’s talk about the flower decoration style. The flowers set the tone for the entire ambiance of your wedding. Furthermore, don’t underestimate the significance of hiring a talented photographer and videographer. Your wedding memories will be cherished through the photos and videos, so it’s worth investing in capturing those precious moments.

How They Ended Up Choosing Cape Fahn as Their Venue

At first, I was leaning towards hosting our wedding in the forest, but I was spellbound when I set my sights on Cape Fahn Cliff while browsing the Wedding Bliss team’s social media. I had seen many couples have their weddings on the beach or in some forest, but it was rare to see any couples having their ceremony on the rock. I love the idea of exchanging vows standing on the rocks, a promise of our love amidst the elements. The Cape Fahn Hotel, nestled on a private island, also offered an unmatched sense of seclusion. What truly stole my heart was the thought of our guests arriving by boat to reach the Cape Fahn Hotel, adding an extra enchantment to our celebration, as if we were whisking them away to a secret paradise.

Bringing a Piece of Germany to Taiwan Through Thoughtful Wedding Favors

We gave our guests gummy bears. Because Kai is German, gummy bears can represent Germany. Since most of our guests are from Taiwan, we wanted to incorporate something that reminds them of Germany.

You’re Not Going to Want to Miss This Summer Camp Come to Life Wisconsin Wedding

June 17, 2024 | justine

Tori and Jared had a clear vision for their big day: a celebration of their love and the cherished community that surrounded them. With this in mind, they curated every detail with care, ensuring that each element reflected their deep gratitude to their loved ones. Opting for a summer camp Wisconsin wedding, they transformed their celebration into an immersive experience, brimming with unique touches and heartfelt gestures that left everyone feeling not just invited but truly valued and cherished.

For their greenhouse forest ceremony, the couple exchanged vows under a beautiful canopy of trees. This was followed by an atrium reception adorned with romantic floral arrangements and the soft glow of candles and string lights. Later, they danced the night away, transitioning to a lively silent disco that kept the celebration going strong.

With overall guiding themes of “Velvet & Glass,” “Kayaking & Canoeing,” and “Minnesota Love,” the pair truly pulled out all the stops for their wedding. Captured beautifully by Junebug vendor J. Olson Weddings, their Wisconsin wedding is filled with creative, steal-worthy ideas that made the day unforgettable for everyone involved.

The Couple:

Tori and Jared

The Wedding:

The Atrium, Solon Springs, Wisconsin, United States

Navigating Wedding Planning with Gratitude For Their Loved Ones

Despite occasional decision fatigue and overwhelming choices, we focused on our north star of “community first.” A wedding is as much about the couple as it is about the community supporting them. Prioritizing our community helped us manage planning stress and keep our loved ones’ happiness in mind. Our guiding themes were “Velvet & Glass,” “Kayaking & Canoeing,” and “Minnesota Love.” With these themes, we organized special events for early arrivals, created a memorial station built by my father, displayed framed artwork with a family tree vibe, and set up a private booth for personal recordings. Guided by gratitude, we opened our prep rooms in the morning, leading to an unforgettable day filled with meaningful experiences.

How Their Vows at The Atrium Symbolized Community Connection

The Atrium’s Greenhouse offers a magical forest ceremony location, complete with oak forest aisles and railroad tie seating for a fairy tale atmosphere, weather permitting. One memorable moment was the birds singing in the trees. I surprised Jared with a secret rendition of “All I Want is You” from Juno, performed by our live guitarist during the aisle song, which almost brought him to tears. Our vows focused on gratitude towards our community, acknowledging that our celebration wouldn’t have been possible without their love and support. We pledged to include and support them beyond this day, emphasizing that we’re all together.

Navigating Wedding Day Surprises with Grace and Gratitude

Our advice: have a plan, but also be open to letting it go for spontaneous moments of beauty. As they say, “Surround yourself with people who plan in decades but live in moments.” Enjoy the planning process, but if it becomes overwhelming, trust that your loved ones will make the day everything it needs to be and more.

How Their Summer Camp Wisconsin Wedding Venue Mirrored Their Upbringing and Passions

We wanted a venue that wasn’t just beautiful and available but also represented our backgrounds. Jared grew up on a Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) farm cultivating flowers and vegetables. While studying forestry, I was raised camping, portaging, and canoeing. We pondered how to merge these two aspects to reflect ourselves in the space. When we discovered a greenhouse with a forest as a ceremony space, we knew we had found a needle in a haystack, a true gem symbolizing the places we call home.

Creating a Personalized Celebration Without a Traditional Party

We didn’t have a traditional wedding party. Instead, I created roles tailored to my relationships. These included “Dress Queen” for dress research and styling on the day, “Party Queen” in charge of the bachelorette party, and “Mission Control” handling behind-the-scenes needs. Friends stepped up for these roles, recognizing the non-traditional approach. This flexible arrangement relieved pressure from a singular maid of honor or best man. Without formal parties, friends and family came and went from our suite as they pleased, creating a relaxed atmosphere. As an introvert, I appreciated having loved ones nearby during prep. Moments like the “Dress Queen” gifting a book of letters from meaningful people emerged organically. Opening the morning to all guests allowed for unexpected, memorable moments and candid photos.

Empowering Family Members to Create Meaningful Decor at Their Summer Camp Wisconsin Wedding

We didn’t personally DIY anything, as we trusted our wedding venue experts and lacked crafty skills. However, many family members were skilled in crafts, so we empowered them to bring their vision to life with art installations and floral arrangements. Even if we hadn’t liked the flowers (which we did!), they would have still represented our loved ones, which was most important to us. Additionally, we found a local seamstress to create colorful velvet table runners, adding a vibrant touch to our decor.

Unique Favors at Their Summer Camp Wisconsin Wedding Celebrating Their Themes and Family Heritage

Our favors were small, local hot sauce bottles with a sewn patch with our wedding emblem from our father’s artwork installation. Our theme of “Minnesota Love” got to shine with the local hot sauce, and the other theme of “Kayaking & Canoeing” got to shine in the patches for friends and family to sew on their many backpacks or outdoor gear.

16 Things Wedding Vendors Wish You Knew

June 16, 2024 | kailey

Planning a wedding alone can be a daunting task. That’s why it’s so important for wedding-planning couples to assemble their dream team of vendors from the get-go. Hiring vendors early sets you up for a more enjoyable, stress-free planning experience. They not only save you time sorting out details you might be unfamiliar with but also offer invaluable advice and suggestions backed by expertise. Ultimately, you invest in professionals for a reason. So trust in their knowledge to help seamlessly bring your wedding vision to life.

If you’re still in the process of hiring your team of vendors, we’ve got you covered. Get ready for a head start with some insider tips, tricks, and advice straight from the vendors themselves. Here’s the lowdown on everything wedding vendors wish you knew.

1. Don’t Be Afraid to Be Extra

Brittany Ford encourages couples to “Be extra.” Don’t be afraid to “show your personalities in details throughout your day. Remember that it’s your day. Not your bestfriends, not your parents, not your 2nd cousin’s, not your aunt Sally’s. Do not allow anyone to give you an opinion on any of your plans unless they are footing the bill. It’s all about you and the celebration; make it exactly how you want!”

2. Don’t Ghost Potential Vendors

When you’re searching for vendors, it’s common to reach out to several that catch your eye. Once you’ve contacted wedding planners, photographers, florists, and others, you’ll likely receive many responses. Your email will be filled with information from these vendors who have taken the time to answer your questions and outline their services. It’s essential not to ghost them. Respectfully let them know if you’ve chosen to work with a different vendor so they don’t have to worry about tracking you down later on.

3. Budget Realistically

There’s nothing worse than underestimating wedding expenses. Unrealistic price expectations when meeting and booking vendors will result in coughing up more money or rearranging funds to cover unexpected costs. That’s why wedding vendors wish you knew that it’s crucial to do ample research and create a realistic wedding budget from the start.

Once you and your partner have settled on a comfortable overall budget, you can decide how much you will spend on each wedding detail, like flowers, fashion, etc. The vendor’s expertise will come in handy for those unsure of the magic number they’ll need for each category. Contact potential vendors with your vision and discuss pricing and package options. Remember, budget transparency is key.

4. Wedding Vendors Wish You Knew: Don’t Expect a Response 24/7

When planning an event that’s this special, we know it takes top priority. That being said, it’s understandable that couples get frustrated when emails or phone calls aren’t responded to immediately. But it’s important to respect your vendor’s time and business hours.

KAZ Events emphasizes the importance of patience, especially when requisitioning quotes from vendors. “When your planner starts requesting quotes, some vendors reply fast, and others take a week or more, especially if it is high season.” While your wedding is important, just remember that vendors “have a life too and family, and will sometimes require a day. In some cases, they don’t reply fast. Sometimes, they will have events during the week.”

5. Remember Pricing Reflects Behind-the-Scenes Work

Many couples are shocked when they see realistic wedding prices. This includes hiring key vendors like a photographer. But it’s important to remember that “in terms of pricing, wedding photography isn’t just showing up the day of and shooting. Prices reflect photographers’ many services, including location scouting (for engagement sessions), timeline and wedding planning services, editing, etc. You’re not just booking for a day. You’re gaining many services provided to help make your day the best it can be,” says photographer Catie Eovaldi

6. Prioritize Quality Photographers Over Cheap

While there are many ways to save money on your big day, vendors shouldn’t be one of those. This is especially true when it comes to your photographer. Brittany Ford reminds couples to “not cheap out on photography. You want to make sure you hire someone that you relate to, trust with your life and who will be willing to roll with the punches. You want to find someone who has years of experience and will know what choice to make when things go awry to ensure that you are not at all stressed out. Someone who will also be able to understand your body language to know when you and your new husband/wife are done with photos.”

“You only get this day once, so you want to make sure you hire someone that you can trust will hold up their end of the contract and deliver your photos to you in a timely, professional manner.  Wedding days are no joke; they are stressful, and you need to make sure you hire vendors who are reputable and have your best interests at heart, no matter what.” So before you go with the cheaper option, truly sit down and consider what matters most.

Planned by Junebug vendor The Different Twins, photos by Linda Nari Photography.

7. Don’t Be Afraid to Speak Up With Vendors

Videographer Gaetano Di Giacomo finds it important to ensure couples know that “transparency is key, so make sure to check in with your vendors prior to the wedding day. After investing so much in your wedding day, it’s important to ensure you love the services you’re receiving. If you’re not thrilled with the samples or during a trial, speak up! Be honest with your vendors and ask to see different types of examples, such as flowers, table settings, wedding films, or pictures. Building trust with your suppliers and partnering with them is essential. They will be a big part of your day, and you want them to fit seamlessly with your celebration.”

While this is important during the planning period, it’s equally important after your big day. “If your wedding day doesn’t go exactly as planned, communicate your thoughts with your suppliers. Remember, we are all human, and mistakes can happen. It’s important to be clear and work together as a team.”

8. Be Familiar With What You Don’t Like

When searching Pinterest for inspiration, odds are you’re saving all the ideas that catch your eye. While vendors love it when couples are familiar with what they like, knowing what they don’t like is just as important. Being transparent with both ends of the spectrum will give vendors an idea of what you want and allow them to better tailor their advice and suggestions specifically to you.

9. Wedding Vendors Wish You Knew to Consider a Weekday Wedding

Your dream wedding doesn’t have to drain your bank account. For those searching for cheaper venue alternatives, KAZ Events recommends couples consider a weekday wedding. While it all depends on the location and venue preference, typically, “getting married during the week can be a bit cheaper than the weekend.”

10. Once You’ve Made A Decision, Stick With It

Once you’ve made a decision, stick with it. Once you check an item off your checklist, don’t consistently revisit it. Although you pay for vendors’ services, making last-minute changes can sometimes be impractical or inconsiderate. Making changes every week closer to your wedding is a hassle for vendors, especially if they’ve already sorted out the details with other wedding professionals.

11. Don’t Hold Back Emotions During Your Ceremony

“The ceremony is this moment of the wedding, is perhaps the most beautiful, emotional, and above all, one of the main highlights,” which is why photographer Josep Maria Garrido puts 500% of their energy into it. And when it comes to this special moment, there are a few things to keep in mind to fully soak up the occasion and make for some stunning images.

“When walking down the aisle, enter slowly. Nerves sometimes play tricks, and you may go too fast. And let yourselves be carried away by your emotions. If you feel like crying, cry, and if you want to laugh, laugh without fear!” Remember, this is all about you. So focus on one another,  “hold hands, look at each other, kiss each other’s shoulders, caress each other, don’t be shy!”

12. Don’t Use Rice for Ceremony Exit

Throwing rice during the ceremony exit has been a wedding tradition we’ve seen time and time again. But photographer Josep Maria Garrido reminds couples, “Above all, do not give rice to anyone. It hurts, it’s annoying, and it stains. Instead, use petals or paper cannons (confetti), which give a super cool touch and exit with euphoria and enthusiasm. Plus, the photos turn out very fun!”

13. You Don’t Need a Full Wedding Itinerary

Many assume you need to have a jam-packed itinerary full of activities. Well, photographer Matlai Photography is helping debunk that theory. She says, “You don’t have to plan lists of activities! Your wedding or elopement day doesn’t have to be back-to-back with events – in fact, giving yourself intentional downtime to be present is probably the best gift you can give yourself. Also, your guests will appreciate it!”

14. Always Have a Plan B

“Whether you’re eloping or have a more traditional wedding, always be ready for a Plan B scenario.”  Matlai Photography reminds clients that “accommodating for weather or other circumstances can sometimes throw your day for a bit of a loop, but if you are 100% on board with your backup plan (which you should have!), then it won’t be a stressful game-day decision.”

15. Stick With Your Partner All Day

Snapping pictures, catching up with loved ones, hitting the dance floor—there are a million things going on during your wedding. While it’s standard for the nearlyweds to stay separate while getting ready, that doesn’t have to be the case for the entire event. After the ceremony, photographer Brittany Ford recommends you “stick together. Some couples split up, causing different memories of the night. Although that may sound like a good idea in hindsight, you don’t have any shared memories of the best day of your life to look back on together.”

16. Plan Extra Getting Ready Time

Junebug videographer and photographer Grand Jour reminds couples to “plan extra time for getting ready, especially for larger wedding parties.” He has captured “many weddings where the getting ready process took much longer than planned, and from there it’s just a stressful day for everyone, running against the clock. Also, plan a 30-minute window of absolutely nothing just before the ceremony, which allows you to catch up with the timeline if the getting ready process goes too long, and if not, it’s a nice wind-down and calm before the storm for the couple.”

Knowing your wedding is in good hands is key to a smooth planning process. While keeping all these things  vendors wish you knew in mind is crucial, ensuring you’re hiring experienced wedding professionals is equally important. For those just starting their vendor search, check out our vendor directory, filled with Junebug-approved vendors from around the globe. From florists to photographers, you’ll find all the wedding experts needed to turn your vision into a stunning reality.

The Story Behind Their Pepe’s Italian and Liquor Wedding

The styling was mainly done DIY through Canva on late nights after work, but it was all inspired once we found our fantastic venue. The venue was inspired by mid-20th-century New York and had an Amalfi coast theme at the time. All our extra styling and decisions about flowers came after seeing the venue. We wanted to celebrate our love with an amazing, love-filled night of dancing. Pepe’s spirits shelves behind the bar and the Amalfi styling were so perfectly styled that all we added were some small touches and beautiful florals.

How the Bride’s Shoes Inspired Their Wedding Color Palette

Our key colors were pink which started when I found my pink shoes. The venue then also had pink so that helped. Our florist was incredibly helpful in bringing much of our vision to life with the florals. Her signature style does not include foliage, which meant the florals had so much color. We chose to have our bridesmaids in emerald green to complement the flowers.

Honoring Loved Ones with DIY Signage and Meaningful Wedding Favors

We made all of the signage ourselves on Canva, and my mum organized the wedding favors. Both of my grandmothers passed away within six months before my wedding. We thought of a beautiful way to honor them both by gifting small parcels of parsley seeds that one of my grandmothers had been cultivating her whole life. We presented them in a small vintage suitcase owned by my other grandmother.

A Culinary Journey Through Italian-Inspired Wedding Menu

Our menu was an Italian-themed cocktail with samples of meats, cheeses, and pizza on the menu—as well as some crowd favorites of small cocktail bites. We had wine, beer, cider, and spirits. We also had two cocktails on the menu all night: Aperol Spritz and Tommy Margaritas.

Dancing Through Decades: A Playlist Spanning Generations

We had a real mix of tunes that everyone of all ages could dance to, from David Bowie to Top Loader to The Beatles to Beyonce. We also had the Tarantella, an Italian wedding song.

Honoring Loved Ones: Finding Meaningful Ways to Include Them in Their Special Day

We lost my father-in-law a few years before our wedding, and that was super difficult. However, finding different ways to honor him throughout the day felt special—an Essendon scarf on a chair dedicated to him, choosing his favorite songs and pictures of him, and talking about him in our vows and speech was hard. Still, it was lovely to honor such a beautiful man.

Making Their Loved Ones an Integral Part of Their Cape a Thompson Hotel Destination Wedding

We always said the day was about us, but it was also about our friends and family. We wanted them not just to be present for the wedding but to be a part of the wedding. Everyone was putting in a lot of time and effort to travel to Cabo, so we wanted to ensure they were thought about throughout the wedding weekend.

How Flowers Became the Heart of Their Cape a Thompson Hotel Destination Wedding Design

We worked closely with our wedding planner to curate our design. We knew we wanted a clean black-and-white palette with a creamy hue and a few statement pieces and moments to liven it up. The vibe mirrored the style, which was elegant but added some entertainment. We splurged on the flowers. And there is not a single bud that I would have changed. The foundation of our wedding’s “look” was the flowers and how they were incorporated throughout every space.

Designing a Wedding Experience Where Guests Glide Effortlessly from Ceremony to Reception

We had searched many venues over the years of visiting Cabo, but we were always drawn to the Cape. The rooftop view is stunning, and the backdrop for the wedding is unbeatable. The reception and dance floor setup was exactly what we wanted for an intimate but fun after-party. Their food is excellent, with a little flare, and the service is top-notch. The Cape was accommodating to us, wanting to take over the rooftop. The goal was for the guests to be kept from being shuffled around but to seamlessly move from one area to the next, from the ceremony to cocktail hour, then reception.

Combined Seating Charts and Wedding Favors with a Personalized Mezcal Touch

We incorporated the seating chart with the wedding favors. We came to enjoy Mezcal from our trips to Cabo and thought it would be a personal touch to include it. The seating chart was adorned with personalized Mezcaleros that our guests could take a shot of to sample and take home with them as souvenirs.

How The After-Party Became the Highlight of Their Cape a Thompson Hotel Destination Wedding

Our most memorable moment was the entire after-party. The tone was set from the beginning with fireworks and ended with a neon saxophone player. We will always appreciate seeing our friends and family enjoying themselves on the dance floor, dancing, singing, and being together at that moment.

Why Having a Trusted Wedding Planner in Cabo Made Their Destination Wedding Experience Truly Special

If you are doing a destination wedding, pick a wedding planner you like. They are your advocates. You work closely with them from start to finish, and it becomes a personal relationship. We trusted our planner to put our vision into place, and there is so much behind the scenes that you cannot keep track of from a distance or on the wedding day. You must know that if something is not going perfectly, they will make it work however you want without asking. Not only did we have the best wedding planner in Cabo for our wedding, but we gained a friend in the process.

Review: “As a photographer myself, I had really high standards for who would take our wedding photos, and so I knew Pala would be the perfect person for the job. Her work is fantastic, and her style of vibrant, true-to-life colors was gorgeous and exactly what I wanted. She is also just an amazing, funny, and wonderful human, and it was so lovely to have her with us on our big day. She did such a great job making everyone laugh and keeping things organized during family photos. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a wedding photographer.”

2. Shari + Mike Photographers

Review: Shari + Mike = best wedding photographers ever. Our photos are BEAUTIFUL. Actually, though, they exceeded our expectations. We keep getting compliments on the photos and photo style. They capture genuine and real moments, and they were truly a pleasure to hang out with on our wedding day. They have wonderful personalities, they were completely punctual, and made photo-taking fun! Thank you so much.”

3. Nomad by NK

Photography style: Documentary with a sprinkle of editorial

Good for: Couples who want every candid moment captured

Review: Nat and Kerstin are two of the most talented photographers I’ve ever met. They’ve photographed my engagement shoot, wedding, maternity, and now newborn photos, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. What I love most is their ability to capture candid moments, make us feel comfortable (even my husband, who doesn’t love being photographed), and ALWAYS keep you laughing, which makes for the best photos! Love you two, thanks for capturing all of my most precious moments!”

4. henry f.

Photography style: Artistic storytelling

Good for: Couples looking for whimsical, film-like photos

Review: “When looking at Henry’s sample of work – I was immediately impressed and drawn to the vintage style of his photos. My partner and I are so happy to have gone with him as our wedding day photographer. He is professional and patient and encouraged us to be natural and comfortable during our photo sessions. He has a great eye for scoping out locations and framing photos to make ordinary spots look cinematic. During our event, he was able to capture many beautiful candid moments and was not distracting at all. We are so pleased with the final photos. Thank you, Henry!”

5. The Godard’s

Photography style: Journalistic editorial

Good for: Couples who want magazine-worthy photos

Review: “Being a wedding coordinator in the industry, I knew the importance the right vendors would make on the big day. So when it came to photography, something that both my husband and I valued high on our list, I HAD to suggest my faves the Godards, and luckily, he felt the same way. Having worked with them before, I was able to experience their professionalism, care for couples, easy-going attitudes, and amazing talent firsthand. The galleries that they would produce were beautiful and timeless and captured the essence of the weddings in a way that felt natural and real. So when it came to our engagement shoot and wedding, I was once again in awe of the way that they put us both at ease and captured who we are as a couple. We are so grateful to have such beautiful photos that we will cherish for the rest of our lives. Thank you, Danaea and Silas, for being a part of this milestone season of our life together and we couldn’t imagine sharing the experience with any other photographers.”

Ronnie’s work is NOT your cookie-cutter wedding photography- she plays with light and composition in a way that makes your wedding feel editorial and glamorous yet natural and romantic. Not only is her photography exemplary, the way she made my usually camera shy partner laugh and be comfortable in front of her camera was great and allowed us to get some wonderful, natural shots. I loved that Ronnie wanted motion, fun, and adventure during our sessions- she was absolutely perfect and so lovely to work with for both our engagement and elopement sessions! Colorful La Casa de la Ruina Wedding Full of Small Personal Touches

June 10, 2024 | justine

Jamie and Sami fell in love with Antigua when they got engaged there. As they planned their wedding, they wanted to capture the adventure, excitement, and love they felt during their first trip. They knew they had to share the beauty of Guatemala with their loved ones. Set in a luxurious historic venue, their La Casa de la Ruina wedding featured a vibrant color palette, showstopping florals, and festive decor that perfectly complemented the old-world atmosphere of their unique location.

A standout moment of the wedding was the ceremony location. The stunning courtyard ruins provided an enchanting backdrop for the couple’s heartfelt vows. And that’s not all. A Mariachi band serenaded and led the entire wedding party through the quaint streets to the garden reception. The tables were meticulously adorned with vibrant centerpieces, each adding a pop of color to the already picturesque setting. However, stealing the show was the unique and vibrant dance floor, where the newlyweds and their guests had a blast all night long.

Even though it was a destination wedding, the pair were determined to infuse it with the cozy familiarity of home and the vibrant spirit of Antigua and Central America. They wanted their guests to feel like they were stepping into their backyard for a relaxed and intimate celebration, and they succeeded brilliantly. Thankfully, Manuel Aldana was there to capture every moment, ensuring that the essence of their special day would be beautifully preserved for all to see.

Crafting a Meaningful La Casa de la Ruina Wedding Ceremony Through Personal Touches and Emotional Surprises

For the ceremony, we opted for a short, non-traditional approach. My uncle officiated, incorporating a brief meditation, poetry readings, and a unique passing of the rings ceremony, where each guest blessed the rings with well wishes. We exchanged heartfelt speeches and custom vows, adding a personal touch to the moment. With the help of our planner and our vendors, I surprised Sami during the ceremony, executing the plan flawlessly. We had the talented local violinist Mariana Bustamente play a playlist we curated together, covering everything from Harry Styles to beloved Harry Potter soundtracks. As a nod to Sami’s love for Lord of the Rings, I suggested incorporating “Concerning Hobbits” into our walk down the aisle, a moment that moved Sami to tears, as expected.

Honoring Roots and Adding Extra Flair Throughout Their Big Day

We had a lot of favorite moments throughout the day. As we walked from the ceremony to the reception venue, a Mariachi band serenaded and led the entire wedding party through the streets—a nod to Jamie’s time in New Orleans, famous for its Second Line celebrations. Stepping into the reception venue for the first time filled us with awe, seeing all the small details we’d discussed come to life. We laughed our way through but successfully nailed our choreographed first dance—a huge triumph. After that, the wedding party let loose on the amazing dancefloor for the rest of the night, having an absolute blast. We especially enjoyed joining in with the belly dancers we brought in, paying homage to Sami’s Middle Eastern roots and adding an extra touch of fun to the celebration.

Destination Wedding Essentials: Why You Need a Wedding Planner

If you’re planning a destination wedding, hiring a wedding planner is a must! I Do, Guatemala were instrumental in making our weekend unforgettable. They helped us connect with local artists and vendors we would have needed help finding. Remember, it’s your day, so there are no rules.

How They Made Their La Casa de la Ruina Wedding Truly Theirs

Our favorite wedding moments always revolve around speeches, so we spread them throughout the events, giving each one value and importance without overwhelming guests. Instead of traditional Father-Daughter/Mother-Son dances, we invited our families onto the dancefloor, creating unforgettable moments. Later in the night, we had belly dancers, and our DJ seamlessly integrated traditional Middle Eastern music into the playlist. Our menu was eclectic: ceviche, Thai food, a ravioli bar, steak, and a taco station. Groomsmen wore their own suits, and bridesmaids picked their own dresses. By focusing on what mattered most to us, we created a day that was uniquely ours, ignoring many traditions to stay true to ourselves.

Crafting La Casa de la Ruina Wedding Luxury Within Limits

We weren’t aiming for a million-dollar wedding, and we ensured our wedding planner knew our budget and expectations. Despite that, our day felt like pure luxury, both in the moment and looking back at the photos. Before meeting with our planner, we researched wedding budgets and read blogs from weddings we admired to set realistic expectations. We found it helpful to break down our budget into specific items rather than seeing it as one big expense, which helped us stay on track while choosing vendors and details. Though I spent more on my wedding dress than planned, I saw it as a special treat for myself. Setting up payment plans for big expenses was a lifesaver, with our wedding planner handling 75% of the payments. We were incredibly fortunate to receive help from both sets of parents, which we hadn’t expected when we decided on a “big” wedding. Throughout the year leading up to our wedding, we saved and budgeted our personal finances to cover most of the costs, making our dream day a reality.

Discovering Antigua’s Charm: How They Found Their Dream Wedding Venues

We selected our venues after exploring Antigua on a scouting trip with our planner. Over three days, we toured various locations, from city streets to mountainsides, all meticulously prepared by Diana based on our preferences. We envisioned a natural, outdoor setting that embodied the unique charm of Antigua, a UNESCO World Heritage city known for its preserved ruins and gardens. Among the many ruin sites available, we sought lush vegetation and symmetry for our ceremony—a traditional aisle. Eventually, we settled on two venues: La Casa de la Ruina Santa Rosa for the ceremony, where Sami instantly fell in love during our scouting trip. Its allure was further enhanced by the option to rent the entire property for the weekend, providing accommodations for our loved ones. For the reception, we took a leap of faith with Jardin Real de Santiago, a chosen sight unseen due to Antigua’s in-person reservation process. Despite initial reservations, the space exceeded our expectations with its expansive, private setting enveloped by beautiful trees and verdant foliage. This strategic choice allowed us to allocate less of our budget to florals, freeing up resources to focus on other decor elements.

Colorful Summer Brunch Micro Wedding in the Dolomites

Ashlyn and Alex were well aware that opting for a destination celebration would narrow down their guest list. Despite the challenge, they made a conscious decision to prioritize intimacy over numbers. With only 20 cherished loved ones in attendance, they ensured that each guest shared in the joy of their special day. Dreaming of a mountain setting, they chose the picturesque Dolomites as their backdrop. Surrounded by vibrant wildflowers, they tied the knot in a heartwarming summer brunch micro wedding, shared only with their closest circle. Though small, their big day was simply perfect, filled to the brim with love and joy.

The couple selected the most breathtaking backdrop for their special day. With the majestic peaks as their witness, they exchanged heartfelt vows, surrounded by nature’s grandeur. Their outdoor reception was equally enchanting, with the same awe-inspiring backdrop setting the scene. As guests gathered around a long table adorned with colorful wild blooms, they savored every moment of this picturesque celebration with brunch and a wine tasting.

Excited for some intimate wedding inspiration? Check out these beautiful photos by Junebug vendor Christin Eide. They’re proof that all you need for a memorable day is a beautiful location and your loved ones around you.

The Journey to a Summer Brunch Micro Wedding in the Dolomites

We wanted our wedding to be intimate with our closest family and friends. We chose the Dolomites and a venue with a view of Seceda as the focal point. The vibe of the wedding was a summer brunch. Our florist used wildflowers from the Dolomites, pulling the whole look together. Nothing looked out of place. It was like we were having a beautiful picnic in the Dolomites.

Tips for a Stress-Free Wedding Day

Wedding advice to other couples: Go with the flow! Things will not always go according to plan, and there is so much outside of our control. To truly enjoy your wedding day, you have to go with the flow and enjoy all the perfect moments.

How Their Destination Brunch Micro Wedding Became the Ultimate Vacation

Our guests say my wedding was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and one of the best vacations of their life. It was challenging to decide to have a wedding out of the country, knowing we would have to cut the guest list to about 20 people and that many people wouldn’t be able to make it. Many people had opinions about us having our wedding so far away, but at the end of the day, we did what we wanted to do and made the day truly about us. It ended up paying off for everyone that was able to attend.

Finding Perfection in a Venue Amongst the Dolomites

We spent so much time looking for the perfect venue. We knew we wanted to get married on the mountain, but we also wanted a beautiful view of the Dolomites for our reception. We found the perfect venue, which had both an indoor and outdoor venue with plenty of space for music, apps, brunch, dancing, mingling, etc. I first saw Seceda walking down the “aisle” to my husband. It completely took my breath away. It was such a fantastic moment to experience beauty while walking down the aisle to get married.
