This Stunning Tuscany Elopement Was Full of Emotions

April 24, 2024 | justine

Charles and Rachael had a big decision to make. They wanted to sneak away and get married, turning their wedding into an adventure. That’s when their photographers suggested something amazing: a stunning Tuscany elopement. It seemed just right, like Italy itself—timeless and effortless. They couldn’t resist saying “I do” amidst Tuscany’s rolling hills as the sun dipped below the horizon. It was exactly what they were looking for.

On their special day, the couple began by getting ready together, sharing excitement and nervousness. Standing together, looking out over the breathtaking countryside, they shared intimate vows filled with love and promises for their future. The stunning landscape served as a backdrop, enhancing the moment’s beauty. As the sun started to set, they captured beautiful portraits, immortalizing their love in the scenic surroundings.

With one of the world’s most breathtaking settings serving as the spot to honor their love and begin their journey together, their Tuscany elopement was a true fairytale come to life. Every moment was filled with raw emotion, and luckily, The Ferros managed to capture the emotions of the occasion beautifully.

The Couple:

Charles and Rachael

The Wedding:

Tuscany, Italy

The Vow Exchange was the Highlight of Their Stunning Tuscany Elopement

Our vow exchange was definitely the best part. Taking time to read the vows and freely express our emotions was beautiful. After we both finished reading them, we burst into laughter from how giddy we were and how soaked our faces were from tears.

Destination Elopement: Sealing Their Love in Wanderlust

If you have any doubts about a wedding, why not elope and make a honeymoon out of it as well? Choose a location that speaks to you both and book that trip. Having the opportunity to go to another country to elope is a privilege for which we’re incredibly thankful.

How They Planned and Budgeted for Their Italian Adventure

We researched the average costs of eloping and travel costs to Italy. We then created a generalized budget based on that. With eloping, staying on budget was easy, with no surprise expenses.

15 Hawaii Honeymoon Resorts For Your Dream Vacation

April 22, 2024 | riley

With its incredible turquoise beaches, lush landscapes, and vibrant culture, there’s a reason Hawaii is such a popular honeymoon destination. But with so many beautiful resorts scattered across the islands, choosing the ideal haven for your romantic getaway can feel overwhelming. You want it to be perfect to celebrate your newly married status, we understand! That’s why we’re rounding up Hawaii honeymoon resorts that are everything you’ve dreamed of and more.

Whether you want to explore the big city of Waikiki, visit the active volcanoes of the Big Island, or lay on the beach for a week straight in Kauai, each island offers a different experience–which is why we’re rounding up hotels from every island.

Hawaii Honeymoon Resorts

Oahu Resorts

Whether you’re looking for secluded romance or adventurous exploration, Oahu has it all. Dive into the island’s vibrant culture with luaus, snorkeling adventures, and sunset cruises, or make your way to the top of Diamond Head for some of the most breathtaking views on the island. No matter what you’re looking to enjoy, Oahu is the perfect blend of city life and incredible scenery.

Four Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko Olin

oahu honeymoon resort

Why we love it: With incredible views, pools you’ll never want to leave (including an adult-only pool), a top-ranked golf course, easy access to the beach, and top-tier service from its staff, the Four Seasons has everything you could want in a honeymoon destination.

Turtle Bay Resort

turtle bay resort

Why we love it: Oahu is arguably the busiest island out of the Hawaiian islands, and Waikiki may be a little too busy for some. That’s why we love Turtle Bay Resort. Situated on the iconic North Shore, the resort is ideal for those looking for a stay outside of the hustle and bustle of the city. Take a peaceful horseback ride down the beach, take surf lessons, enjoy the adult-only pool cabanas, or relax with a spa treatment at Nalu Spa.

Halekulani

waikiki honeymoon resort

Why we love it: For those who don’t mind being in the city, Halekulani is a 5-star resort fit for a newlywed couple. With its stunning oceanfront location and meticulously landscaped gardens, Halekulani is the definition of romantic. Indulge in world-class dining experiences at La Mer, where French cuisine meets Hawaiian flavors, or savor tropical cocktails at the iconic House Without a Key under the 130+ year-old Kiawe Tree.

The Kahala Hotel & Resort

oahu honeymoon resort

Why we love it: With five-star service and timeless hospitality, The Kahala Hotel & Resort is set on its own secluded beach while also being only a 15-minute drive from Waikiki. Meet dolphins in the private lagoon, relax on the sand, learn to scuba, or enjoy date night at Hoku’s, where you dine on a four or seven-course meal.

The Royal Hawaiian

royal hawaiian resort

Why we love it: There’s no resort more iconic than The Royal Hawaiian. Picture yourself sipping piña coladas by the waters of the resort’s oceanfront pool or catching a catamaran right off the shores of the beach in front of the resort. With its pink and white decor and rich history, the minute you step onto the property, you’ll feel as if you’ve traveled back in time.

Maui Resorts

While Oahu is beautiful, we know it can be a little too busy for some. If you love the idea of being isolated while still having some city life, Maui may be more your speed. The second biggest island is a combination of busy yet relaxing, which is why it’s arguably Junebug’s favorite island of the eight. Take the drive to Hana and enjoy some homemade banana bread on the way, snorkel Molikini Crater, or do shopping at Whalers Village. The options are endless.

Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea

four seasons maui

Why we love it: Nestled along the pristine shores of Wailea Beach, this exquisite resort is as dreamy as it looks. Take a dip in the adults-only infinity pool before getting an oceanfront treatment at the spa. In the mood for a mai tai? The property has multiple bars and restaurants where you can sip a cocktail and enjoy delicious food before heading off to your next adventure.

Hana Maui Resort

hana maui resort

Why we love it: If you’ve ever looked up things to do in Maui, you’re probably familiar with the Road to Hana. The 64.4-mile-long stretch of road takes you to some of the most incredible views the island offers. What better way to enjoy the scenery than to stay on the road itself? The boutique stay is the definition of private, tucked away at the end of the long drive. Enjoy the 75 acres of lush countryside, fresh local meals, and tours of the tropical local fruit farm during your stay.

The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua

ritz carlton maui

Why we love it: Located on the exact opposite end of the island as the previous resort, the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua sits on 22,000 acres of pristine land. It has everything you could want in a honeymoon destination–delicious restaurants with ocean views, a 24-hour heated pool, six bays and beaches all within a 10-minute drive, and an on-site 36-hole golf course.

Kauai Honeymoon Resorts

Kauai, aka the “Garden Isle,” is known for its lush, green landscapes, cascading waterfalls, and rugged cliffs. Its unparalleled natural beauty makes it a nature lover’s paradise. Explore the famous Napali Coast, or venture inland to discover enchanting rainforests and hidden valleys. With charming towns like Hanalei and Waimea, you’ll also find vibrant markets, local eateries, and quaint shops.

1 Hotel Hanalei Bay

1 hotel hanalei

Why we love it: Kauai is arguably the slowest-paced island out of the bunch, and 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay leans into becoming one with nature in everything it does. The property itself is surrounded by a concentration of native plants–roughly 70% of which are indigenous–to purify the air, uplift your spirits, and give you a taste of the culture. Continue your romantic wellness retreat with yoga, a visit to their spa, or a cooking demo they host.

Ko’a Kea Resort on Po’ipu Beach

kauai honeymoon resort

Why we love it: Hanalei is the quieter side of the island (which also happens to get the bulk of the island’s rain), so if you’re looking for something a little more lively, pack your bags and make your way to Ko’a Kea Resort on Poipu Beach. Just steps away from the beach, this hotel has everything from live music and hula to dinners paired with wine tastings. It’s also a great spot to get up and watch the sunrise. PS, Poipu Beach is one of the best places to see sea turtles.

Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort

sheraton coconut beach kauai

Why we love it: Located on the island’s east coast, the Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach resort is centrally located, making it the perfect hotel for those who want to spend time outdoors and in town. There’s nothing more romantic than spending your evenings watching the sunset at the zero-edge pool overlooking the ocean.

The Lodge at Kukui’ula

kauai honeymoon lodge

Why we love it: Many of the resorts on this list are your typical hotel stays. And while there’s nothing wrong with that, sometimes you just want something that makes you feel a little more at home. That’s where The Lodge at Kukui’ula comes in. Whether you opt for one of their bungalows or a cottage, you get your own kitchen, outdoor lava rock shower, and spa-inspired bathroom.

Hawaii (Big Island) Resorts

From the fiery depths of its active volcanoes to the lush rainforests, the Big Island is a highly underrated vacation destination. Whether you’re exploring the colorful underwater world while snorkeling off the coast of Kona, hiking through the valleys of Waipio, or stargazing atop the world’s tallest volcano, Mauna Kea, the Big Island has something for everyone.

Fairmont Orchid

fairmont orchid

Why we love it: Explore the underwater wonders in a private bay, lounge under palm trees by the pool, or hike through the Puakō Petroglyph Archaeological Preserve at Malama trailhead, a short 12-minute walk from the hotel–the options are endless when you stay at Fairmont Orchid.

Four Seasons Resort Hualalai

hawaii honeymoon resorts

Why we love it: Although there is no shortage of incredible resorts on the islands, the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai stands out. Sitting on the west side of the island, this 5-star resort is the ultimate escape from your day-to-day life. All rooms have been recently renovated, and there’s a large focus on authentic Hawaiian design, allowing you to deeply immerse yourself in the culture from the very beginning of your honeymoon. Although it’s a bit of a drive to other shops and restaurants, you’ll quickly find that once you check-in, you’ll never want to leave.

Mauna Lani, Auberge Resorts Collection

mauna lani

Why we love it: Want to honeymoon in a resort where Elvis Presley and his friends used to hang out? Consider the Mauna Lani. The resort was purchased in 2018 by Auberge Resorts and has since undergone an extensive renovation, but that Hawaiian charm that you’re looking for is still very much there. That’s why it was rated as Travel + Leisure’s #1 Resort on the island of Hawaii.

Now that you’ve found your dream resort to stay at, it’s time to think about what you’re going to bring with you. To ensure you don’t forget anything while you’re packing, use this honeymoon checklist to help you pack all the essentials!

Bright and Colorful Studio 54 Inspired Sunnybrook Venue Wedding

April 22, 2024 | justine

Finding inspiration for a wedding can be as easy as watching a favorite movie. For Haley and Emerson, that movie was “Saturday Night Fever.” They decided to tie the knot on Halloween weekend, giving them the perfect excuse to unleash their creativity. With a nod to the colorful 70s and the glitz of Studio 54, their Sunnybrook Venue wedding was a disco dream come true. From vibrant colors to groovy fashion and dazzling decor, their celebration was a throwback to the iconic era of disco fever.

Surrounded by manicured gardens and a charming country house, the couple chose a venue close to their hearts—the historic property the bride’s parents owned. Their ceremony was simply beautiful, with a path lined with flowers and a vintage rug leading to asymmetrical floral pillars decorated with mirror balls. As the evening rolled in, the tented reception burst with color. Tables were covered in pink linen, creating a striking contrast, and a cozy lounge was set up right by the checkered dance floor. Above, a stunning installation of greenery, blooms, and disco balls added an extra touch of excitement to the whole scene.

The couple put together an extraordinary and breathtaking celebration, and what’s even more remarkable is that everyone came dressed to impress. Their wedding day truly mirrored their fun and fashionable personalities, and luckily, Junebug vendor Pat Cori was present to capture every moment.

Behind the Scenes: Planning a 70s-Inspired Sunnybrook Venue Wedding

Our wedding was Studio 54-themed, so we put a lot of thought into the design, incorporating lots of bold, bright colors, hundreds of disco balls, neon signs, tropical flowers, and greenery. We loved the movie Saturday Night Fever and the 70s, so that was our starting point for the planning. My parents own Sunnybrook, and my mom is an event coordinator, so that made the wedding planning process seamless and fun since we could bounce around ideas anytime, often calling and texting each other into the night to talk about details and sourcing items for the wedding.

Crafting a Meaningful Wedding Ceremony with Grandpa Ken

As soon as we were engaged, I knew I would ask my grandfather Ken to officiate our wedding; of course, he and my grandmother are an important and special couple in our lives, but he is an ordained minister and has officiated hundreds of weddings over his 50 years in the ministry. The wedding ceremony itself is something I hadn’t put a ton of thought into initially. I figured you hold hands, say I do, kiss, and you’re done. I just wanted to throw a fun party with my loved ones, but it was much more special than I imagined. During the planning process, we collaborated on what he would say during the ceremony. He wrote up a few different speeches, and we picked certain elements to blend from each; at one point, he suggested we do a Celtic knot-tying ceremony like he and my grandmother had at their wedding 27 years earlier. We loved this sentimental element, and it was even better when we decided to use the same rope my grandparents had used during their ceremony, which they very sweetly gave us as a wedding gift. These touches, along with our heartfelt vows, really made the ceremony.

Exploring Wedding Inspiration in the Digital Age

My wedding planning advice is to get inspiration from many sources. I spent countless hours browsing different hashtags on TikTok and Pinterest boards, looking at 70’s outfits, hair, and makeup inspo online. I watched 70’s movies and the Studio 54 documentary on Netflix. I then took those ideas and made mood boards for each part of the wedding: ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, after party, and then broke it down even more specifically into bar details, table settings, candy bar, etc. This was helpful to my mom/wedding planner since she could get a clear idea of my vision for the event.

Infusing 70s Inspiration Into Every Detail of Their Sunnybrook Venue Wedding Reception

The reception tent’s overall design was beyond what I could have ever imagined. We had magenta velvet linens with a bold print 70’s inspired orange and pink patterned napkins, lush tropical flowers and greenery, a VIP seating section, chandeliers, romantic mood lighting, and a stocked bar with high-end tequila tasting options. Our checkered dance floor was enhanced by a fantastic installation of greenery, flowers, and disco balls hanging from the ceiling. I wanted something pretty and aesthetically pleasing anywhere you looked in the tent.

Choosing a Wedding Venue with Meaning

Considering my parents’ own Sunnybrook, it was a very easy choice on where we would get married. Even though my mom tried to convince us to do a destination wedding, she just wanted a tropical vacation. I love the venue so much; many important moments of my life have happened here: birthdays, graduation parties, and my baby shower. I couldn’t picture getting married anywhere else. Even if my parents didn’t own it, Sunnybrook would have been my choice either way. The venue–a historic home from 1912–offers a cozy ambiance with modern amenities. Its rooms serve various wedding needs: foyer for the guest book, fireplace room for champagne, ballroom for the ceremony, patio for cocktails and late-night fun, and gardens for the reception. Two spacious suites are available for wedding party preparations, complete with renovated bathrooms and kitchenettes. The well-maintained grounds provide a picturesque backdrop with manicured hedges, seasonal flowers, old trees, and a water feature. Conveniently located 10 minutes from downtown Roanoke and near the interstate, it’s easily accessible for guests. As a one-stop shop, the venue provides wedding planning, catering, flowers, bar services, and cake options, simplifying the planning process.

Bringing the 70s Vibe to Life Through Wedding Fashion

Our loved ones made our day memorable; we had guests travel from as far as Honduras and the Cayman Islands, New York, and California. Not only were we so excited to see our favorite people come together to celebrate our union, but we also loved seeing the effort everyone put into their best ’70s outfits. We got married on Halloween weekend, so we wanted to make it a fun event for everyone to go out on a theme. Our guests showed out in the best way, many wearing vintage, super colorful, fun outfits, sparkly dresses, jumpsuits, platform shoes, bold accessories and jewelry, creative makeup, and wigs. The dedication to the theme made the evening special and one we will never forget.

Personalizing Their Sunnybrook Venue Wedding By Customizing the Decor

For the wedding, we had a contractor custom design our bars and a 10×10 grid, which we arranged with bright, colorful flowers, greenery, disco balls, and chandeliers and hung from the top of the tent over the dance floor. They also built a large, circular platform stage on which we stood for our ceremony. We also had our seating chart and signs throughout the wedding custom, personalized matches and napkins at the bar, and a custom neon sign that said “Til Death.”

Creating a Custom Color Palette for Their Hotel Haya Wedding by Embracing Neutrals and Vibrant Hues

When planning our wedding, we didn’t initially have a specific theme. Instead, we aimed for a balanced color palette, primarily neutral yet accentuated with vibrant hues. Our decor elegantly combines contemporary design with elements inspired by Mediterranean styles while maintaining a classic, timeless appeal. The guiding principle for our choices was simple: we selected what we genuinely adored and felt connected to. A significant aspect of this was the inclusion of light blue, a color that both my husband and I are particularly fond of.

Navigating Challenges Together by Turning Date Nights into Wedding Planning Bonding Time

Our wedding journey was filled with unforgettable experiences—the first look we shared, the grand reveal of the reception room, and the deeply meaningful exchange of our personal vows. Together, we planned each detail, turning many of our date nights into nights of crafting and creativity. This period became a treasured part of our life together. We experienced a whirlwind of emotions throughout the planning process, from tears to laughter, through every high and low. Despite the emotional rollercoaster of wedding planning, we stayed true to ourselves.

Top Tip for Stress-Free Wedding Planning: Secure Your Dream Team Early for the Big Day

Even with the best preparation, be ready for some last-minute details to arise, so start planning early; it’s always the best approach. Secure your vendors early on, as their schedules fill up quickly. We booked most of our vendors a year ahead to ensure availability. Having a wedding planner is essential, even if it’s just for partial planning. They’re invaluable. As professionals, they’ll remember details you might overlook. Take it from us. Their expertise is worth it. We are proud of the fact that we were deeply engaged in every aspect of our wedding planning. Together, we made choices, found a middle ground, and shared moments of joy and emotion, all while prioritizing our authenticity and staying true to ourselves. It was important to us to cherish each moment together. We made sure to have fun in every phase of the process.

Why They Chose a Hotel Haya Wedding

At first, we had the idea of having our wedding outdoors. However, considering the challenges of distance and the unpredictable weather in Florida, we decided to take a different approach. We opted for a setting that aligned with our appreciation for historical architecture. We were drawn to the rich history, brick walls, tall windows, and overall charm of the Hotel Haya. What really sealed the deal for us were the stunning herringbone wood floors. These floors held great significance because they perfectly complemented the color scheme we had chosen for our event, which wouldn’t have worked well with the typical brightly colored carpets found in ballrooms.

DIY Escort Display Reflecting Their Unique Personalities

There were a lot of things we created together. The biggest DIY project was our escort display, which truly reflected our personalities. Drawing inspiration from our shared passion for cars–a love many of our guests share and have bonded over for years–we crafted a unique parking garage setup. Each guest received a ticket personalized with their name and specific details guiding them to their seat. There, they found a custom Hot Wheels car, chosen to represent a car they’ve owned either in the past or currently. Adding a touch of nostalgia, all those Hot Wheels were from Ben’s childhood collection.

This 74 Wythe Wedding Was Inspired by the Spring 1992 Christian Lacroix Runway Collection

April 20, 2024 | justine

Tiziana and Marcus had a clear mission: to fill their wedding with color! Overall, they aimed for a vibrant, energetic party where everyone could freely express themselves and have a blast. They took inspiration from the Spring 1992 Christian Lacroix fashion show, with its bold and beautiful colors and textures. Inspired by Lacroix’s iconic style, Tiziana’s wedding dress perfectly captured the vibe they were going for. From the decor to the flowers, every aspect of their 74 Wythe wedding was carefully chosen to match this bold theme, creating a day that was as bright and beautiful as their love.

With its retractable glass enclosure, the outdoor venue was transformed into a floral paradise adorned with cascading flower garlands and lush greenery. As the couple exchanged vows amidst the fragrant ground florals, the atmosphere was magical. Seamlessly transitioning into an unforgettable reception, the space featured a mix of long and round tables, each dressed in light blue linen and fresh spring blooms. Adding to the festive ambiance was a disco mirror ball, ensuring the dance party would be nothing short of spectacular.

From the chic fashion choices to the stunning venue makeover, Mary Costa skillfully captured every memorable detail that will inspire you to embrace your individuality and create a wedding that is truly your own.

The Couple:

Tiziana and Marc

The Wedding:

74 Wythe, Brooklyn, New York, United States

How Christian Lacroix Inspired Their 74 Wythe Wedding

Our mission was simple: color! We wanted the vibe to be fun, with limitless excitement—an energetic and splashy party celebrating self-expression in its most joyful manifestation. We are blessed with friends and family who are creative, brave, and vibrant, so we requested that they embrace and display the most colorful sides of their personalities. Our wedding inspo was pulled from the Spring 1992 Christian Lacroix Runway Collection—bold, bright, and beautiful colors and textures. My dress from the Spring 2023 Marchesa Runway Collection evoked the Lacroix vibe, and all the other elements from the celebration were chosen to compliment the look.

From Mariachis to Go-Go Dancers: Highlights of Their Big Day

The day was filled with dynamic memories. The photoshoot walking around our neighborhood and favorite spots, the surprise Mariachi performance during cocktails, the unconventional and playful catering service, and the DJ playing music inspired by Club Kid culture, 90s House, and Crystal Waters. We completed the vibe with singers and go-go dancers, making it a celebration that will be remembered forever. But the most memorable part for us was the time we spent alone. The downtime in between the chaos. The time when we fell back in retreat and watched the happiness unfold.

A 74 Wythe Wedding Inspired by New York’s Nightlife

There was no downtime, boring, quiet, or soft moments. We wanted our guests to feel like they were on a journey. Transported to a time when going out in New York was at one of its many peaks. You would go out for the night, eat delicious food at exciting restaurants, hit up dance clubs that were a sultry scene, and then unwind with some stand-up at the Comedy Cellar before returning for the after-hours parties. Yes, we even had a stand-up comedian as our officiant who broke into a 10-minute set in the middle of the ceremony.

From Fur Babies to Funny Moments: The Personal Touches of Our Special Day

Everyone knows that our dogs are very important to us, so we had drawings of them printed onto our cocktail napkins with the caption “drinks on us.” But truthfully, everything about our wedding was personalized—traditionally untraditional, just like the two of us. From the fashion, music, comedy, and food, we gave our guests a real insight into who we are individually and as a couple.

Personalized Napkins for a Memorable Keepsake

I embroidered gorgeous flowers on the napkins that matched the rest of our decor. I have an embroidery machine at my store. Even though it took many hours to complete, it was worth it. It gave the napkins a personal touch, and our guests were able to take them home at the end of the night.

What to Know About Hiring Your Wedding Florist

April 19, 2024 | riley
retro wedding florist hero image

Your wedding day is one of the most memorable occasions of your life, and choosing the right florist can make all the difference in creating the perfect ambiance. From delicate bouquets to elegant centerpieces, flowers play a crucial role in setting the tone for your special day. However, like with any other wedding vendor, finding the ideal florist amidst a sea of options can be overwhelming.

That’s why Junebug exists. We’re here to match you with your dream vendors for your big day–including your florist. Before you find the perfect match for you, there are a few things you should know. From when to hire your wedding florist to what you can expect to pay, this is all the information you need to go into the hiring process feeling confident. We even roped in some Junebug-approved florists to give us their advice.

When Should You Hire Your Florist?

Although many weddings have been planned in the span of just a couple of months, if you want to maximize your options when it comes to vendors, we recommend starting your search as early as possible. Many vendors, including florists, book out far in advance.

When we asked Estelle of Les fleurs d’Alkonost her thoughts on the matter, this is what she had to say on the timeline, “From my experience, the best time for couples to hire their wedding florist is eight to ten months before the wedding day. It gives florists time to dive into the floral design project and get to know the client’s needs. It also gives us time to source any special furniture and vases needed to make the day memorable. The sooner you contact a florist, the better to get a high level of details curated.”

How Much Does a Wedding Florist Cost?

The cost of hiring a wedding florist can vary widely depending on various factors, including your location, the season, the complexity of your floral arrangements, and the florist’s experience and reputation. On average, couples typically allocate about 8-10% of their total wedding budget to flowers and decor.

When meeting with potential florists, be transparent about your budget from the outset. A skilled florist will work with you to create stunning arrangements that align with your vision while staying within your budgetary constraints. Remember to account for all aspects of floral design, including bouquets, boutonnieres, ceremony decor, reception centerpieces, and any additional floral installations.

If you’re trying to make the most of your floral budget, we highly recommend repurposing your florals. Estelle agrees, saying, “Budget is often the first question we ask couples because it helps florists build a coherent design proposition from the beginning. In the last three years, flowers have become much more expensive, and floral budgets can feel overwhelming for couples. Our job is to advise couples about what’s important and where you can save costs. We always recommend having a beautiful statement floral piece to catch the eye–this piece really makes a difference as it has a “wow” effect on your guests. We also recommend, when it’s possible, to use ceremony flowers after the ceremony, moving them to another space to enjoy the flowers longer.”

How to Choose Your Wedding Flowers

Selecting the perfect color palette and flowers for your wedding is a personal decision that should reflect your style, personality, and overall theme. Here are some tips to help you navigate this creative process:

  • Consider your wedding theme – Whether you’re planning a whimsical outdoor wedding or a sophisticated ballroom soirée, your floral choices should complement the overall theme and aesthetic of your wedding. Take inspiration from your venue, season, and decor to guide your color palette and flower selection.
  • Listen to professional advice – Don’t be afraid to lean on your florist’s expertise. They can offer valuable insights into which flowers are in season, what will work best with your chosen color scheme, and how to achieve your desired look within your budget.
  • Think beyond the blooms – While flowers are undoubtedly the focal point of a wedding’s floral design, don’t overlook the importance of foliage, greenery, and other botanical elements. Mixing textures and incorporating non-floral elements can add depth and visual interest to your arrangements.
  • Be open to alternatives – If your dream flowers are out of season or exceed your budget, be open to alternatives. Your florist can suggest similar blooms that offer a comparable look and feel while staying within your parameters.

When asked about tips for choosing flowers, Estelle said, “The tip I give to all my couples is to choose decorations that fit their personality. If you like simple things and minimalism in your everyday life, you should go for soft tones and flowers with intention. If you like colors and maximalism, then go for it! Doing so will help so that the couple doesn’t feel like they blindly followed a trend proposed by the wedding industry without really liking it. Your florist will get to know you and propose a mood board that explains the style and colors they will use on your wedding day. Try not to get too specific about flowers–your florist knows which are the best seasonal flowers to use to last all day long. ”

Questions to Ask a Florist Before Hiring Them

Junebug vendor Jessika Fragoso of Flora Wedding Studio put together a small list of questions to ask a florist before hiring them. Of course, if you have other questions in mind, feel free to ask them. But if you’re looking for a good start, try some of these out:

  • How long have you been working in the wedding industry? (It’s very important to see a portfolio)
  • How do you work the florals? (Directly in the workshop or directly in the venue?)
  • What do you think about the style and flower selection for the weather we’ll be in?

She also recommends putting together a meeting with your vendors (specifically the planner, rental company, and florist) to ensure that everyone is on the same page.

How Much to Tip a Wedding Florist

We understand that tipping wedding vendors may be a confusing topic. While we want to clear up any confusion for you, it’s also important to note that how much you tip your florist depends entirely on your preference and where the wedding takes place. For example, tipping is not a common practice in many international countries. That means if you’re having a destination wedding, tipping is likely not necessary.

If you’re having a wedding close to home, whether or not you tip is entirely up to you. While it is always appreciated, it’s not expected. The same can be said about the percentage that you tip. Florals can be expensive; even a ten percent tip can add up quickly. If you want to thank your florist for their hard work, choose an amount you feel comfortable with, place it in an envelope, and pass it off to your planner to give them on your wedding day.

Choosing the right wedding florist is a crucial step in bringing your floral vision to life. By following these tips and trusting in the expertise of your florist, you can create breathtaking floral arrangements that enhance the beauty and romance of your special day. This Couple Brought Las Vegas to Spain in Their El Monasterio del Espino Wedding

April 18, 2024 | justine

Izaskun and Robert had always thought an intimate Las Vegas wedding was the route they would take. However, when Robert proposed, their dreams took a different turn as they began envisioning a grand celebration. They shared their initial plan with their wedding planners, who embraced the idea of bringing a touch of Las Vegas to Spain. True to their word, their El Monasterio del Espino wedding became a vibrant affair, featuring bold colors, glittering decor, neon signs, disco balls, and even tattoos! It was a celebration that perfectly blended their original edgy idea with the grandeur of a big wedding.

This couple definitely knew how to leave a lasting impression, beginning with their outdoor ceremony. They transformed a white vintage convertible into an iconic altar, beautifully adorned with cascading red blooms. The elegance continued into the tented reception, where a unique light strip centerpiece added a touch of sophistication. And the fun didn’t end there! At the barn after-party, they danced the night away, embracing the lively disco atmosphere and keeping the party vibes alive until dawn.

If you dream of blending fun Vegas vibes with whimsical wedding charm, this celebration could be the perfect inspiration you’ve been searching for! If your wedding style leans towards the unconventional and out-of-the-box, you won’t want to miss out on scrolling through to see all the delightful details captured by Junebug vendor People Truelove Tellers.

The Couple:

Izaskun and Robert

The Wedding:

El Monasterio del Espino, Spain

How Two Friends Crafted a Personal and Meaningful Ceremony

For our ceremony, we were blessed to have not one but two officiants: Irati and Joy, two of our dearest friends who dedicated themselves to crafting the perfect ceremony. Their efforts paid off as they seamlessly blended funny and heartfelt anecdotes about us, making the ceremony incredibly personal and meaningful. Evidently, their words came straight from the heart, reflecting the depth of our friendship and connection.

Personalizing the Wedding Experience Through Music, Food, and Fashion

Our wedding day was super special, full of love and happiness at every turn. But what made it stand out was the live music during dinner and the after-party. It was amazing when Third Floor Rock played “Oh Darling” by The Beatles. Everyone was so into it, and it’s a memory our guests still talk about. What we’re proudest of is that we stayed true to ourselves. We did things our way, like wearing clothes from ASOS and having a vegan menu. It was a bit risky since most weddings have different food, but our guests loved it. Our wedding really showed who we are, and we’ll always remember it as a special day.

Finding Their Dream El Monasterio del Espino Wedding Venue Through Instagram

We saw El Granero de San Francisco on an Instagram post and loved it. The thing is that we had the picture, but no references about the name or location. When we started looking for venues, our wedding planners asked about what type of venues we liked. We showed them the picture of El Granero de San Francisco, and they told us they knew the place and shared all the information. A few weeks later, we visited it and fell in love with it.

Navigating Challenges Through Building Trust and Collaborating with Their Vendor Team

Trusting our suppliers and working closely with them as a team was paramount for us. We had two main goals: ensuring our suppliers could also enjoy the wedding and creating a sense of closeness among everyone involved. This approach not only led to a better end result but also made us feel supported throughout the planning process. Despite already living together, being from different parts of Spain meant we needed help finding a suitable location for our wedding. Hiring a wedding planner was a clear choice, as they could assist in organizing everything within our budget. With their guidance, we efficiently allocated our resources, allowing us to indulge in extras like tattoos while still staying within our maximum budget.

Bringing Vegas to Life Through Non-Traditional Choices

We aimed to capture the spirit of Las Vegas in our wedding, not just in the decor but also in our fashion choices. Seeking elegance with a fun touch, we opted for a non-traditional style. Despite the March cold presenting a challenge, everything fell into place perfectly. Three non-negotiables for our special day were live music, a DJ who matched our vibe, and tattoos. Third Floor Rock was an easy pick for the band after hearing them at an event during our engagement. With the help of our wedding planners, we found a DJ and tattoo artist who aligned with our vision, ensuring every aspect of our celebration reflected our personalities and love for a good time.

Keeping Everyone Cozy with Blankets

Given the chilly March weather during our wedding, we wanted to ensure our guests’ comfort. We provided blankets for everyone to combat the cold, ensuring they stayed cozy and warm throughout the celebration. It was a simple yet thoughtful gesture to ensure everyone felt comfortable and could fully enjoy the day despite the temperature.

This Colorful Nanuku House Wedding is Living Proof of How Far Destination “I Do’s” Can Go

April 16, 2024 | justine

Gaby and Colton always dreamed of making their wedding a memorable experience for everyone. With their background in weddings, they wanted a tropical feel that exuded luxury while remaining financially savvy. They started by picking a villa in Bali as their venue, where they’d also stay. Using their own style and the villa’s vibe as inspiration, they carefully planned every detail to fit in. The outcome? A beautiful Nanuku House wedding that told their love story and captured the beauty of the locale perfectly.

In the tropical garden, the couple exchanged heartfelt vows, like something from a dream. They walked down a path strewn with petals to an altar decorated with beautiful flowers, marking the moment they said, “I do.” After their touching ceremony, they enjoyed an outdoor reception. Above a long table adorned with lush blooms, candles, and earthy touches, white lanterns hung, casting a magical glow.

The couple spared no effort crafting a wedding that would leave a lasting impression on their guests. Luckily, we have breathtaking photos taken by Junebug vendor Helopixel Photo, capturing every cherished moment of this remarkable destination wedding

How They Turned Their Villa Stay Into Their Dream Nanuku House Wedding

We live on the beach in California and have worked in the wedding industry here, so we wanted something tropical but within our budget. We started by picking the villa we wanted to stay in for part of our trip and made it our wedding venue. I designed the event to match our style and the vibe of the villa, and it all came together perfectly. We always knew we wanted our wedding to be an experience for all our guests.

How Letting Go Led to a Wedding Beyond Their Dreams

Planning our wedding was a blast! We loved getting creative with the design part, but we trusted our planner to handle it all for the rest. Since our wedding was in Bali, we knew we couldn’t control everything from afar. Surprisingly, everything turned out even better than we imagined! Our advice? Have fun designing your big day, and let go of the rest—it’s worth it.

It was amazing to see everything fall into place despite the distance. What made our wedding special was the intimacy and the fact that everyone knew each other from the events leading up to the big day. Having so many loved ones travel such a long way for us made it incredibly meaningful—a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Staying true to ourselves, whether sharing private vows before the ceremony or ending the night with a pool party, made it all the more unforgettable.

How a Destination Wedding Can Stretch Your Dollars

Opting for a destination wedding in a country where the dollar stretches further can be a savvy move. Coming from the wedding industry in California, we had a good grasp of typical wedding costs. Choosing Bali proved to be an intelligent financial decision, with expenses two to three times less than hosting a backyard wedding back home, plus you get a memorable trip out of it. One key piece of advice is to discuss and agree on a budget with both families beforehand, treating any contributions as gifts. Our families gave us a set amount, empowering us to plan the wedding we truly wanted, free from external pressures or opinions. This approach allowed us to create an authentic celebration that reflected who we are as a couple.

Magical Casa de Don Andrés de Madariaga y Morales Wedding

April 10, 2024 | justine

Mandy and Mason adore traveling together, and their hearts beat for Cartagena, their most cherished city in the world. It was the dream spot where they tied the knot, surrounded by its vibrant culture, mouthwatering cuisine, and undeniable romance. When planning their wedding, they aimed to infuse it with authentic Colombian traditions while adding their unique touch. With a romantic vibe, breathtaking flowers, and rich colors, their Casa de Don Andrés de Madariaga y Morales wedding was a celebration where love truly flourished in every detail.

In the heart of the Old City, the couple exchanged vows in the renowned 16th-century church, setting the stage for a magical ceremony. They transformed the historic venue into a fairytale setting, adorning the aisle and altar with abundant flowers. The enchantment continued into their courtyard reception, where a stunning display of white and red blooms adorned elegant tables illuminated by flickering candles. Under a canopy of twinkling fairy lights, they savored delicious food, danced, and celebrated their love long into the night.

The Stewarts Roam did a fantastic job capturing every detail of the pair’s special day. It’s a magical event you won’t want to miss seeing!

The Couple:

Mandy and Mason

The Wedding:

Casa de Don Andrés de Madariaga y Morales, Cartagena de Indias, Colombia

The Power of Personal Vows in Their Ceremony

It was really important to Mason that we write and say our own vows during the ceremony. Writing them was much harder than I expected because there was so much I wanted to say. Ultimately, I pretended it was just the two of us there and spoke from the heart. We both had a difficult time holding back tears during our vows.

Blending Cultures and Traditions at Their Casa de Don Andrés de Madariaga y Morales Wedding

I have always had a deep passion for traveling, and now Mason and I have crossed many countries off our bucket list. We knew we wanted to plan a destination wedding weekend with multiple events to ensure we could spend plenty of time with each of our guests. Our favorite city in the world is Cartagena, and we knew it was the perfect blend of culture, cuisine, and romance for our wedding. We planned a rooftop welcome party at Movich Hotel and a private island beach party at Blue Apple Beach Club, in addition to the wedding day. While designing the wedding, we wanted to incorporate some authentic Colombian traditions while also bringing our own flare. The ceremony and reception venues themselves offer stunning architecture, and we opted to design the aesthetic to highlight the natural beauty of the spaces.

Navigating Their Casa de Don Andrés de Madariaga y Morales Wedding Mishaps with Grace

We tried to keep our planning fun. At the end of the day, this event is about celebrating your love and commitment to one another. Though it can be stressful, we tried to use it as an excuse to have a planning “date night” together. One valuable piece of advice I received and would happily pass on is this: things might not always go as planned, and that’s perfectly fine. Hardly anyone even notices! For instance, our welcome bags were supposed to be shipped from the States but never arrived. In a spur-of-the-moment decision, we had our weekend itinerary cards handed out as guests entered the welcome party. To our surprise, many attendees approached us to express how delightful it was, completely unaware that there should have been welcome bags in the first place! Ultimately, because I wasn’t fixated on achieving absolute perfection, I found it easier to shrug off minor mishaps and enjoy the occasion to the fullest.

Celebrating the Bride’s Grandmother’s Presence as Their Flower Girl

We were so proud of my 85-year-old grandmother for traveling to Colombia and being our “flower girl.” We have an extraordinarily close relationship, and it meant the world to me to have her as a part of our day. She was an absolute rockstar.

Elevating Their Casa de Don Andrés de Madariaga y Morales Wedding Experience With a Midnight Surprise

We surprised our guests with a Colombian tradition called “Hora Loca” (Crazy Hour). At midnight, there were suddenly costumed performers, feathered dancers, lights, and wild entertainment. It got everyone energized, and the dance floor was packed.

Embrace the Sunshine With These 21 Summer Wedding Ideas

April 6, 2024 | riley
summer wedding

With constant sunshine and warmer temperatures, there’s a reason that summer is one of the most popular seasons for weddings. If you’re tying the knot between May and August, you’re in luck because there’s no shortage of summer wedding ideas and inspiration. To help you plan your special summer day, we’re rounding up 19 of our favorite summer wedding ideas that will keep you and your guests feeling cool. From the best types of weddings to summery color palettes to favors that will help your friends and family beat the heat–we’ve got it all.

Types Of Summer Weddings

Beach

Beach weddings are by far one of the most popular types of summer weddings. There’s just something special about tying the knot while the waves crash behind you and the ocean breeze flows through your hair. It’s an ideal setting for anyone looking for a more laid-back, bohemian vibe for their day.

Garden

If you’re a fan of fairytales and all things whimsical, consider saying “I do” in a garden or greenhouse. The greenery and natural florals serve as beautiful backdrops, making for some incredible photos. It also helps you save money on decor.

Destination

If you and your significant other have a travel destination that is special to you, invite your guests there for a destination wedding. It could be somewhere tropical where you can lay in the sun for hours on end or somewhere in the mountains to cool down from the summer heat–the options are endless. If you have the time to spare, turn it into a weekend-long celebration so you can soak up time in your favorite place.

Vineyard

Whether you’re a wine aficionado or you’re looking for a more rustic aesthetic for your special day, a vineyard makes the perfect wedding venue. With rolling hills, plenty of sunshine, and some delicious food and drinks, there are quite a few benefits to tying the knot in a vineyard. And the best part? You can get a special bottle of wine on your wedding day to save for special occasions like anniversaries or birthdays.

Barns and Farms

To take the rustic aesthetic to the next level, opt for a barn or farm wedding. These venues are typically blank slates that allow for a lot of personalization with decor and florals while still offering a country feel that you can’t find anywhere else.

Backyard

There’s something incredibly romantic about getting married in the backyard of a home that’s special to you or your partner. Backyard weddings are intimate, nostalgic, and budget-friendly. Because they’re not typically used as wedding venues, you have free rein to tailor the decorations to precisely what you’re looking for, no matter what’s on your mood board. If you don’t have a backyard big enough for a wedding but love the idea of a backyard wedding, take a look at Airbnbs!

19 Fun Summer Wedding Ideas

Now that you’ve got an idea of the types of summer weddings available for your big day, here’s a list of our favorite summer wedding ideas for you to use.

1. Destination-themed invites

If you’re jet-setting for your special day, tie in the destination theme with your invitations. You can find personalized invites for your destination all over Etsy–from Greece and Paris to Hawaii and Las Vegas.

2. Minimal wedding decor

One of the best reasons to get married in the summer is that many outdoor venues have built-in decor already. At the beach, you have the sunset and the waves. At a vineyard, there are fields of grapes. Use this to your advantage and let the scenery do the talking.

3. Bright florals

If you do choose to add florals to your summer wedding, consider a bright color palette. Think bright reds, pinks, oranges, and yellows. These bold colors will make your special day feel more tropical, even if you aren’t heading off to a remote island.

4. Short reception dresses

We’re huge fans of reception dresses, and the summer heat is the perfect excuse to change into a shorter hemline for your party. Not only will your guests be shocked by the outfit change, but you’ll also stay cool on and off the dance floor

5. Choose lodging with a pool

Having a destination wedding typically involves booking a room block at a hotel or opting for an Airbnb for your guests. Turn it into a multi-day affair that everyone can enjoy by choosing lodging that has a pool. This way, you can spend your days off lounging around and catching some rays with your loved ones.

6. S’mores bar

One of the best parts of summer is spending the nights outside cooking s’mores over the fire. So bring that fun to your wedding with a s’mores bar. If the wedding is outside and a bonfire is permitted, do it the old-fashioned way. If you’re indoors or unable to have fires, you can set up mini tabletop fire pits using food-safe candles.

7. Welcome beach bags

While guests will most likely bring everything they need for a weekend at the beach, surprise them with welcome beach bags full of goodies you would need for a day under the sun. Fill it with things like a water bottle, snacks, sunscreen, bug repellent, and sunglasses. It’s a fun, easy touch that they will appreciate.

8. Festive favors

If you have too many guests for welcome bags but still want to incorporate the summer season in your favors, consider festive favors. Give gifts like personalized hats or water bottles, flip-flops for the sand, fans, or sunglasses.

9. Lawn games

Dancing is arguably one of the best parts of a wedding, but there are other ways to keep your friends and family entertained if they don’t feel like getting down on the dance floor–like lawn games. Break out the corn hole and oversized Jenga, and they’ll be playing all night long.

10. Coconut water bar

What says summer more than drinking coconut water out of a real coconut? Setting up a coconut water bar is a refreshing way to cool down, and it doubles as an adorable piece of wedding decor.

11. Fresh fruit

Fruit makes for adorable table centerpieces when paired with bold florals and candles, especially citrus fruits like oranges, peaches, lemons, and grapefruits. Citrus fruits give you a bright, colorful palette that ties in beautifully with the season.

12. Seafood bar

If you’re opting for a waterfront ceremony, consider a nautical-themed food bar. You can serve oysters, calamari, mini shrimp cocktail, or sushi–the world is your oyster.

13. Popsicle cocktails

There’s something about summer that reminds us of our childhoods, so bring that essence of nostalgia into your wedding day. Turn popsicles into an adult-only treat by serving cocktails that include mini popsicles in them. Not only do they taste delicious, but they also make for really cute photos.

14. Mini margaritas

One of the hottest cocktails in the warmest months is margaritas. While you could serve them as your signature cocktail, you can also take it up a notch by passing out mini margaritas in small Patron bottles during cocktail hour

15. Drink canoe

Want to showcase your beers and other canned beverages in a unique way? If you’re having an outdoor wedding–specifically one near a lake or one with a summer camp theme–consider a drink canoe. Simply fill up a boat with ice and place your canned drinks throughout for guests to quickly grab throughout the evening.

16. Pool decor

Saying “I do” next to a pool is a surefire way to embrace the summer. If you do decide to go down this route, don’t leave the pool bare. Throw in monogrammed floats, floating lanterns, or retro floats shaped like flamingos and palm trees.

17. Palm leaf florals

Palm leaves are one of the few florals that will never go out of style–especially in the warmer months. Use them in bouquets, backdrops, centerpieces, seating charts, and more. If you’re aiming for a more boho aesthetic but you still want to tie them in, opt for dried palms.

18. Colored suits

There really is no wrong time to wear colored suits, but boy do we love them in summer. Lighter colors will pop, and they’ll also keep you cooler under the sun. Don’t be afraid to experiment with colors like teal, baby blue, yellow, orange, and even beige.

19. Family style BBQ

One of the highlights of summertime is barbecuing outside with friends and family, so why should your wedding be any different? If you’re throwing a laidback backyard wedding, fire up the grill and treat your guests to your favorite BBQ foods.

20. Alfresco dining

For a dinner party feel, host your reception dinner under the stars in the warm air. It’s an easy and romantic way to take advantage of the beautiful weather. Bonus points for the whimsical feeling that comes from eating outside with your loved ones.

21. Ice cream

No wedding is complete without a sweet treat. Even if you opt for a traditional wedding cake, treat your guests to a late-night snack of ice cream to help cool them off. There’s nothing we love more than when couples hire one of their favorite ice cream trucks for the end of the night.

Now that you’ve got all of your summer wedding ideas fresh in mind, it’s time to dive in even more. Check out our guides to a backyard wedding, destination wedding, or an Airbnb wedding to keep your planning train on track.
