This Leonard Lake Reserve Wedding Among the Redwoods is Pure Romance

March 16, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

There are so many perfect locations for a wedding in the Redwood forests of California, and Leonard Lake Reserve is one of our new favorites! Jem and Peter took full advantage of the lakefront property, the private cabins, and the dreamy woodsy spaces to host an unforgettable wedding weekend. It’s not hard to see that this wedding was all about community. Every element, from the decor to flower arrangements to the reception dinner, were made by Jem, Peter, and all their friends and family. We adore the unique look Jem and Peter created by making everything themselves, and we especially love their twist on traditional wedding style. Jem’s blush Leanne Marshall gown and Peter’s red and blush Beckett & Robb suit added both a level of whimsy and a pop of color that looked beautiful against the woodland landscape. Paige Nelson Photography nailed it in capturing every detail of this wildly romantic California wedding!

The venue was one of our main priorities. We wanted a place that could host us and our guests for a weekend. We didn’t want people to have to travel once they got to the site. We also wanted somewhere outdoors. Peter and I love spending time in nature, and we started falling for each other on a camping trip. I knew I wanted either the ocean or a forest, and eventually decided on redwood trees in particular, and Peter requested that our venue still have a body of water. After a long search for venues with redwood trees and a body of water that met our requirements, we landed on Leonard Lake Reserve. The place was a dream!

The most memorable part of the wedding day for me was during the ceremony. I had asked our officiant (Peter‘s step-dad) to include a moment early into the ceremony for Peter and I to take a deep breath, slow down, and turn and look at our guests. This allowed me to be really present and soak up the loving support of our guests. Being able to share this special moment with our wonderful community was very important to me. So much of the day can rush by quickly, so having that moment carved out was really lovely.

When I asked Peter what the most memorable part of the day was for him, his first response was, “Only one?” I asked him to think back on the day. What is a memory that came to mind? Then his answer was, “Dinner.” I asked him if there was anything particular about the dinner — the toasts, the food. His answer, “Eating with guests. Just eating it.” Peter decided early on that he wanted to serve tacos at the wedding. We both love tacos, and it fit in well with our wedding theme! In all fairness, he did add, “Besides you being my wife, right?”

Our advice is to start early, especially with securing a venue! But I would also say dream big first. What is your dream wedding? What are the themes/concepts you can distill from that dream? Take those and edit it down to something that is more manageable. Consider feelings, not just how something will look. It helped Peter and I to discuss our priorities early on, and also our budget. Remember that it’s the groom’s day too, so include him as much as he wants to be included! Lastly, if you can, definitely make a weekend of it! Peter and I were able to spend a lot of time together on the actual wedding day, because we were able to hang out with our guests the night before and the day after.

To save money, and also because our venue was basically a destination wedding, we ended up DIY-ing a lot. It was really a community affair. I hand-lettered all the favor labels, escort cards, and place cards. I made hot cocoa mix to go with campfire s’mores. Peter, his cousin DJ, and I pickled a bunch of vegetables, which we served for our Plowman’s lunch platters. A couple day’s before the wedding, I went flower shopping with our friend Lynn and then home we de-thorned and de-leaved a bunch of the flowers so they would stay alive and healthy for the wedding day. On the day of the wedding, a bunch of our guests came together to do the wedding flower arrangements. They were gorgeous and extra special because I felt the love that had gone into making them.

For dessert neither Peter nor I wanted cake. So we asked his aunts, who are the best bakers ever, to make us pies, and thankfully they said yes! We seriously had the best guests and could not have pulled off this wedding without them.

Vintage Eclectic North Carolina Wedding at Oskar Blues Reeb Ranch

March 1, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

With sentimental value in the Blue Ridge Mountains, it was a no brainer for Anna Kate and Zane to have their wedding at Oskar Blues Reeb Ranch. Blues Reeb offered the perfect mix of rustic and modern elements that are perfect for their eclectic wedding vibes. East West Vintage Rentals provided mismatched chairs for the ceremony that added a bit of charm to their day. Anna Kate rocked a Moonlight Bridal two piece wedding dress and Zane looked dapper as ever in his tux from The Black Tux. These two celebrated with their family and friends with The Bus Booth photo booth and Jade & May Co. mobile bartender. Fox and Owl Studio photographed the fun and joyous day!

The Couple:

Anna Kate and Zane

The Wedding:

Oskar Blues Reeb Ranch, Brevard, North Carolina

I work as a graphic designer and I was SO excited to design our day. All of the signage, stationery collateral, table numbers, place cards, and printed material were designed and hand-lettered by me.

Focus on the moment! During planning, even though it’s easy to get wrapped up in the visual decor of things, it’s important to try and remember the actual day itself. Hiring a wedding planner was hugely important to us because it allowed us to focus on the upcoming big day and actually enjoy it instead of worrying about the details.

I grew up riding horses and was pretty much born in a barn, and always wanted to be married in one. It was also important for us to be married in the Blue Ridge Mountains, where I was raised and where Zane proposed to me. The dairy barn at Reeb Ranch fit those criteria and more. I loved the character of the white barn and the red doors, and the history behind it — it was built in the 1940s by German immigrants and was made entirely of concrete which allowed it to retain such good shape over the years. The property included a hidden bonus — a charming 1800s cabin in the woods just steps from the ceremony site, which served as the “bridal cabin”. A private double waterfall in the background of the cabin on the property sealed the deal for us.

I wanted something that reflected our love of vintage ephemera and bohemian stye. Although we were picking a barn as our venue, we really did not want to go the typical rustic route so we leaned heavily on “eclectic” as our general vibe. One of the first decor items I planned were the vintage chairs, and the rest fell into place. Oriental rugs, mismatched plant stands, houseplants and a variety of vases were the perfect touch to my “eclectic” vibe, pulled together seamlessly by the crisp white backdrop of the barn front and chippy character of the barn interior. It was important for us to include sentimental aspects, my favorite of which being the cake topper we used which was used by both my mother and grandmother in their weddings as well.

Our favorite photo taken by Fox & Owl was definitely the one of us coming down the aisle together as newlyweds. I remember the overwhelming feeling of joy during that moment vividly, but to have it mirrored in a photograph is something we will cherish forever.

I wanted something easy, but beautiful, and effortless. My two-piece dress from Moonlight Bridal was my favorite part because of how unique but comfortable it was. I wanted sleeves from the beginning, and I loved the idea of wearing my lace top later with a skirt to anniversary dinners so I didn’t have to put the dress away forever.

Our photographers were the glue that held our day together. Shannon and Andrew of Fox & Owl Studio are THE best to work with, and our day with them felt like we were spending time with old friends. We felt comfortable, relaxed and open with them, and were able to lean back and trust them to capture our vision.

I wanted everything to feel authentically “us” and not get caught up in other ideas or visions once ours was decided. One of our first dates was going antiquing in a local antique mall and ever since, a love of ephemera has been part of our aesthetic. From the vintage chairs to the decor, we wanted it the entire day to feel eclectic and bohemian, much like our own home.

Burgundy, sage, gold, and black were our colors. It was important for us be married in our favorite month, October, and wanted to honor the season of fall by using deep, moody wedding tones. I work as a graphic designer and use the same deep tones in much of my work so chose the colors for our wedding was simply a natural extension of my personal design tastes.

Earthy Bohemian Outdoor Wedding in Tuscany

September 3, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Linda and Kevin’s three-day wedding in Tuscany was a romantic, wanderlust-filled adventure two years in the making. The couple scoped out an ancient stone farmhouse among rolling hills, breathtaking vineyards and olive groves, with the perfect amount of rooms to house their guests for an intimate and nontraditional ceremony. Lush garlands of eucalyptus and olive branches by floral designer Asso di Fiori captured the earthy, hazy surroundings while golden details reflected the stunning sunset views. We love Linda and Kevin’s touching first look and how beautiful and elegant their simple celebration was captured by Lott’s Photography.

The Couple:

Linda and Kevin

The Wedding:

Privated Agriturismo , Tuscany, Italy

We spent over 2 years planning our destination wedding in Italy. We planned the entire wedding, a three-day affair, ourselves without a wedding planner because we wanted a wedding that was unique and reflect our personalities and individual styles. Looking back, it was pretty ambitious of a task planning a wedding in another country but we couldn’t imagine it any other way.

Don’t ever forget the feeling you both had the day of getting engaged. Where the two of you are on the top of the world and soaring on cloud. Because organizing a wedding can sometimes be stressful and overwhelming. So take often a step back and really enjoy the process of planning your wedding. Because time flies and there are beautiful moments in the journey to forever.

Our ceremony was magical! We were nestled on a beautiful swing seat on a hill surrounded by olive trees and overlooking the vineyards. We both wrote our own vows, which was so significant and truly an indescribably beautiful moment. We involved our guests in our ceremony by incorporating a ring warming. Our loved ones hold and imbue our wedding rings with a blessing for our marriage before we exchange the rings. The ceremony was filled with so much love and laughter.

To have the wedding outdoor was really important for us. Since the weather in the Netherlands is so unpredictable, we wanted to have the wedding somewhere where we wouldn’t have to worry. So we run away to Italy, the beautiful country where we also get engaged.  We found a beautiful ancient stone farmhouse located high on a hill surrounded by Tuscan pines, olive groves and vineyards. When we came to see for the first time, we were so taken back by the raw beauty of the entire property, we knew right away…this must be the place!

We DIY-ed almost everything, including; the ceremony swing, all of the wooden signs, place cards, confetti holders, fabric white banners & ribbons, hanging table, banner of photos and quotes, lace balloons, gold painted candles, personalized wedding globe, extendable post with a wooden look and many more. We also made our own wedding invitations and website.

The candle light dinner with the gorgeous views over the vineyards and olive groves, enjoying delicious Italian food and wine together with our beloved ones. The fireflies that appear after the sunset. Releasing wish lanterns and watch them float gently up into the summer night sky, while listening to one of our favourite songs. Dancing under the stars. Sitting by a bonfire, roasting marshmallows while a friend plays his guitar and we all singing along. And this all outdoors, on a hill overlooking the spectacular scenery of the Chianti. Our intimate, destination wedding was truly a beautiful, romantic adventure that is engrained in our hearts forever.

How to Style Your Outdoor Wedding Reception Dinner

August 8, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Nothing makes us starry-eyed quite like an outdoor wedding reception dinner. From twinkle lights to long wooden tables, there’s something impossibly romantic about al fresco dining just as the sun begins to set. If you dream of dinner under the stars with your wedding guests, this post is for you! We’re taking a look back at our favorite outdoor wedding receptions to share the best styling tips to incorporate on your own!

Tall Centerpieces

The key to styling an outdoor reception is to fill the space as much as possible. Since tables generally take care of outward space, your attention can shift to decorating upward! Create visual levels and give your table some height with tall centerpieces such as vases or candlesticks.

Natural Elements

Tree slices, antlers, and fruit – oh my! The types of natural elements you can use in your table decor are truly as expansive as nature itself, so consider the vibe of your wedding and the space you’re using to choose a selection of pieces to make guests go “ooh” and “ahh!”

Luxe Details

It’s no secret that we love a good design juxtaposition, and nothing offsets an outdoor reception like luxe details! Gold flatware, elegant table runners and beautiful china and glassware provide the perfect dose of contrast to your natural setting.

Warm and Sincere South African Wedding at Langkloof Roses

August 5, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Ashleigh and Gean’s South African wedding at Langkloof Roses was a beautiful example of how simple, authentic details and raw, heartfelt moments are really all you need for a perfect wedding day. Their outdoor ceremony on the farm featured a simple green and white floral arch, as well as a vibrant red aisle runner to add contrast to the natural tones. For their reception, they kept the décor to a minimum with grey table runners accented with white centerpieces created by Wildeflower and finished off with personal notes written for each guest. Their minimalist approach was as refreshing as it was beautifully designed, and Illuminate Photography did an incredible job capturing every moment.

The Couple:

Ashleigh and Gean

The Wedding:

Langkloof Roses, Cape Town, South Africa

Remaining true to yourselves as a couple and as individuals can be so challenging. As a couple, we decided upfront to hold each other accountable to being very honest about whether something was an expression of ourselves. It was very important to us to make sure that our wedding was not a bunch of ideas we had seen thrown together. Our vision was to have our wedding be a personal expression of our values, our love for each other, and our deep appreciation for some of the most important people in our lives. We have such a beautiful community of people around us, and we wanted to honour them by being completely present and true to ourselves on our wedding day.

My mom was diagnosed with advanced, aggressive cancer a month after we got engaged. So, we moved our wedding date more times than I can remember to fit in with her treatment plan. Not knowing whether or when her doctors might want to operate, we ended up planning our wedding in under 3 months. Having my beautiful mom wake up next to me on the day of our wedding, having her get ready with me, seeing her have the best time, and having all our guests celebrate her was something that Gean and I will both always cherish. It quite honestly showed the value and fragility of life and the fact that we have all chosen to live passionately with love as the center, regardless of what comes our way.

Our ceremony will forever be engrained in our hearts. It was such an honouring experience to commit our lives to each other with our friends and family alongside us to witness and support that commitment. It was intimate and yet there was a sense that the moment was far bigger than us — it was very raw and liberating.

Our advice is to spend time figuring out what things actually mean to you and how important they truly are before committing to anything. We tried our best to not over saturate our wedding day. We chose to keep it simple so that the elements that we found to be really meaningful were given center stage. This also helped reduce the amount of things that we actually needed to plan.

We decided not to have bridesmaids and groomsmen, but rather to found ways to recognize every one of our guests as a member of one big bridal party. We gifted each of our female guests with foliage flower crowns because we wanted every woman at our wedding to feel as beautiful and special as a bridesmaid should.

Our photographer, Tabitha, was amazing! She was intuitive, she truly listened to us, and she had the most peaceful and encouraging sensibility about her. Because of her organic style, she discreetly captured some of the most sincere, intimate moments of our wedding. Her presence in the room didn’t prevent anyone from being completely natural. She felt like a guest that was softly alongside us as our day unfolded.

We wanted a space that was warm and sincere, a place where all of our guests would be able to feel at ease and just be themselves. There was a beautiful sense of home at Langkloof Roses. Time felt as though it slowed down there, and the farmland surroundings allowed us to breathe deeper. In Gean‘s words, it was somewhat of an oasis, a utopia for the wedding world. We looked at an endless amount of venues, and Langkloof Roses had the perfect balance of everything we wanted: it was magically special and beautifully maintained, but it was also real, raw, and simple. It allowed us to dream about our wedding day without any pretenses.

After endless brainstorming to come up with a wedding favour, finally we realized that the best gift we could give our guests was not a physical gift, but rather our love and thanks. We wrote each guest a unique letter telling them how special they are to us and that we love and cherish their role in our marriage. The place cards for our reception were wax sealed letters with each guest’s name printed on the outside and their letter from us on the inside.

This Understated Jerusalem Wedding at Nafoura Restaurant Took Cues From the Symbolic Olive Branch

July 16, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Between the narrow brick alleyways that lead to Christ Church Jerusalem and Nafoura Restaurant‘s cozy courtyard reception space, Mia and Benjamin’s wedding in the Holy Land was where old-world charm met modern elegance. The bride (Mia Moessinger), who is a professional wedding photographer and designer, put her creative skills to work by designing nearly every detail, including the flowers, invitations, and even her own dress. The main color inspiration came from the simple and symbolic olive branch, which added a naturally elegant feel to the décor and was a spiritual nod to the region where the couple’s new life began. Every sentimental detail and heartwarming moment was captured beautifully by Braden Young Photo.

The Couple:

Mia and Benjamin

The Wedding:

Christ Church Jerusalem and Nafoura Restaurant, Jerusalem, Israel

We met and did volunteer work at Christ Church Jerusalem, it was an easy decision to get married there. That church and this region are extremely sentimental to us. Some of our favorite dates/hikes were to Mt. of Olives, which is located just outside the city, so it also made sense to go with an olive branch theme for the wedding.

SHOP THIS LOOK

I wanted a timeless and simple look that was classy and elegant. For the ceremony, I wore a conservative dress with sleeves and a long veil. For the reception, I switched into a more comfortable look and added an olive branch wreath to my hair.

We had an Anglican Church liturgy read during our ceremony, but we used our own songs and had both sets of parents pray over us in their native tongues (German and Russian). At the end of the ceremony, Benjamin broke a glass — even though we are not Jewish — because it symbolizes both the happiness and the sorrow that our future holds.

We DIY-ed pretty much everything! Because Mia works in the wedding industry, it was easy for her to do and it all looked professional. Mia and some of our friends put together the flower arrangements. Mia designed, printed, and assembled the wedding invitations and created the website. Mia’s talented mom baked our cake and favor cookies, and she helped Mia design her wedding dress. Lastly, a good friend of ours created the hand-written place cards.

Processional – “You’re Beautiful” by Phil Wickham (performed live)
Recessional – “Future Past” by John Mark McMillan (performed live)
First Dance – “Cheek to Cheek” by Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald (performed live)

The most memorable part of the day had to be when our guests started dancing at the reception. The dance floor opened people up, got them out of their comfort zones, and everyone (old and young) got down. We were worried that, with so many different culture groups coming together (Russian, German, American, Jewish, Arab, and so many more), it might be a little uncomfortable for everyone to let loose. They definitely proved us wrong! It was as if our worlds collided, and everyone in our wedding became one!

This Woodson Ridge Farms Wedding is a Botanical Dream

July 12, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

It’s not every day that we come across a wedding quite as gorgeous as Janine and Ian’s. The couple’s wedding at Woodson Ridge Farms captured their unique love beautifully with vibrant botanicals from Everbloom Design, hand-dyed indigo details, and totally personal touches in every inch of their planning! Janine’s eclectic romantic bridal look was completed with her stunning custom beaded gown, vintage gold mesh belt, and giant crimson peony bloom in her hair. We can’t get enough of how Cody & Allison Photography captured every detail of this classically whimsical wedding, from the floral ceremony arch to the unbelievable trifecta of cakes from The Flour Garden.

The Couple:

Janine and Ian

The Wedding:

Woodson Ridge Farms, Oxford, Mississippi

We were committed to having an event that really reflected our history. Everything that we chose was descriptive of our relationship. The rehearsal dinner was held at one of the first places we took a trip together. The band that played was one we had seen together twice at a special point in our relationship. Even the favors came from a coffee shop that we frequent in New York. We took the time to create so many aspects of our wedding by hand. We saw it as an opportunity for our guests to really get to know and understand us a couple and experience the things we most enjoyed doing together. We strived for it to be an intimate affair where people would feel at home.

The setting was isolated and beautiful, wild flowers blooming at the entrance, vegetable gardens and lakes, all bordering a national forest. We also chose our venue with our out of town guests in mind. My family and friends coming from New York and Ian‘s from various locations in the south and Scotland, we needed a venue that had onsite accommodations. It made the entire weekend about being together and spending time with one another. The venue provided a simple backdrop that we could make our own and it worked out perfectly!

From the groom: The first look was the most memorable part of my day! While Janine was getting ready for the ceremony, she was pretty sequestered into one of the houses on the property, and I was allowed a little more freedom to check on how everything was coming together. By the time the ceremony was upon us, I had already seen the table setup and the venue, and knew that it looked exactly as we had envisioned it, but I had no idea how Janine would look. When I got to see her for the first time in her dress it was like the last puzzle piece falling into place, and she looked absolutely stunning. I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face from that moment forward.

I was nervous the entire day leading up to the ceremony. The anticipation of being with Ian, the long procession to the ceremony site and being in front of all our guests was enough to make this rather shy lady a bit uneasy. At ninety-four my father was determined to walk me down the aisle so to spare him from the picturesque but long processional walk to the lake we had both my parents pre-seated. As I started the procession walk alone to my dear parents, I felt full of joy. This allowed me to have a few moments to myself to really take in what was happening and it was unbelievable. As my father walked me down the aisle accompanied by my mom, each step closer to Ian my excitement and happiness grew. I could not wait to be married to this amazing person. There was no where else I wanted to be and no way on earth I could have been happier than that moment, smiling at him, holding his hand…it was beyond expectations and more than I could have dreamt possible.

Try and pick out what you believe to be the most important things that you want to your guests to experience with you and tackle those first. You can probably plan until your blue in the face, but at a certain point, you have to know that what you have is what you have, and every bit of hard work and detail that you put into the production will come through to you and your guests. It can be tough and you will hit a lot of bumps along the way, but always keep in mind that it is one the most important days in your life, and you’re putting all the work in for the best results.

We created a lot of things. We indigo dyed the paper that became our envelopes (which we cut ourselves); letterpress printed the actual invite; drew the rehearsal dinner invite and arranged it into an accordion foldout; made a stereoscopic style save-the-date; and hand sealed them with a wax seal. We really ran with the indigo dye, and ended up dyeing our own table runners, place cards, menus, and the spine of our ceremony bulletin. We also made the bulletin from drawings from throughout the planning process (mainly flowers and washes of color). Iandrew our portraits for the ring pillow while Janine‘s mom sewed the pillow together for us. It was important to us that our guests knew how much they meant to us, and why they were there. It culminated in a massive search for photos of us with each of our guests that was put in a frame (also dyed indigo) and put inside their place card. It was really memorable as we sat at the head of the table and watched all of them discover the images inside, finding those memories we hid for them.

Ian‘s lovely sister and two dear friends provided the processional music for the ceremony. We had two songs; one for the wedding party to process to, and one for Janine walking down the aisle. They performed acoustic versions of Angel Olsen’s “Free” and a version of “Sea of Love” by Cat Power originally recorded by Phil Phillips. We had Southern Komfort Brass Band perform a Second Line as we walked to the reception. Our first dance was “Jeannine (I Dream of Lilac Time)” by The Platters.

This Colorful Lanikuhonua Cultural Estate Wedding is As Cheerful As It Gets

July 6, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

This Honolulu wedding’s colorful blooms and cheerful moments are sure to put a smile on your face! Rachel and John love every color under the rainbow, so they allowed their fun invitation suite’s design set the tone of their Lanikuhouna Cultural Estate wedding: amazing neon flowers, exciting surprises at every turn, and tropical vibes all over! We can’t get enough of Rachel and John’s jaw-dropping floral design by Flowergirls Hawaii, and their bar service provided by Stir Beverage Catering incorporated the cutest striped straws and drink dispensers for a truly unforgettable drink station. Christie Pham Photography and the videography team of Aria Studios documented every moment of the couple’s day beautifully, including Rachel’s surprise ceremony challenges for John!

The Couple:

Rachel and John

The Wedding:

Lanikuhouna Cultural Estate, Honolulu, Hawaii

Because we love so many colors, we knew we had to be organized from day one to avoid disastrous clashing. Instead of choosing an invitation suite to fit our wedding, we decided to let our invitation suite come first so that it helped set the design parameters for our wedding. I asked my best friend, Kim Zeluck, to design our wedding stationery (and to be our “color coordinator”). This was the perfect start to wedding planning as Kim’s art is – figuratively and literally – a dreamscape. Her designs brought our vision to life: a multi-colored pastel-perfect tropical dream.

John and I fell in love with Hawaii when we visited together for the very first time. We knew that we wanted to share our love for the island with our closest friends and family. An oceanfront sunset, a sweeping lawn and a grove of beautiful palm trees aside, choosing Lanikuhonua as our wedding venue was the perfect choice as we could pour our hearts into the pristine, blank canvas. The intimacy of having a destination wedding allowed us to treat every guest as a VIP – our goal was to make every bit of our guests’ trip as memorable as it was for us.

The wording on our wedding invitation welcomed friends and family to join us as we “vowed to be best friends forever”. This was particularly meaningful for us, because during the early days of our relationship, we quickly realized that we would be BFF and that we would marry each other. Invitation and vows aside, we decided to incorporate this vow into our ceremony backdrop. We commissioned Letters to You for a laser cut sign. At the ceremony, we hung it up against a foliage of greens and floral between two palm trees, and now we have it hung above our bed in our first home together.

I also decided to personalize our ceremony by working with our vendors, officiant and bridal party to surprise John at the altar! As the first pair of bridal party people walked down the aisle to an acoustic version of “Forever” by Boyce Avenue, the DJ’s sound system “suddenly went bust” – the original, upbeat version by Chris Brown started playing instead (our DJ was in on this surprise!). To John’s surprise, each bridal party pair walked down the aisle with a mini task for John. These included writing my Chinese name on a whiteboard (a difficult task for my non-Chinese speaking husband!) and drinking quirky-tasting shots (to prove that he can withstand all the different “flavors” that marriage may bring). This all came to John’s surprise and gave everyone a good laugh as they cheered him on to complete all the tasks. Once he had completed all of them, I walked down the aisle with my parents.

We decided to DIY our wedding favours which also doubled up as place cards. When we first started dating, John and I kept a daily journal of how our “best-friendship” developed. We recorded our memories in Moleskine journals: date nights, first fights and funny things said. We decided to share this element of our relationship by hand-lettering guests’ name and stamp-embossing tropical leaves on each Moleskine cahiers. We also wrote a little personalized note to each guest inside the detachable page of each notebook – a big thank you for traveling to Hawaii to celebrate our day with us.

The one thing that stands out the most was our grand entrance. I had no idea what came over me (it may have been my increased level of comfort after changing out of my wedges and into sparkly Kate Spade Keds), but as we waited for the emcee to announce us, I asked John: “I think I’ll carry you.” We went for it! It was a big shock and laugh for everyone – we have photos and videos to prove it!

Elegant California Vineyard Wedding at Vintage Ranch

May 7, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Modern, timeless, and romantic are just a few words that come to mind when looking through these photos from Jerika and Charles’ California wedding at Vintage Ranch. The day started with an intimate outdoor ceremony overlooking a gorgeous vineyard and ended in an indoor/outdoor barn reception. The couple combined clean, minimalist design in the outdoor tent with rustic décor in the indoor barn to create two separate but equally beautiful spaces that reflected both sides of their personalities. We can’t get enough of this adorable couple’s fashion choices, which included a delicate sequin Sarah Seven wedding gown and a custom blue velvet blazer from Tailors’ Keep. Our hats off to photographer Alexandra Wallace for capturing the pure joy, love, and excitement in this lovely wedding!

The Couple:

Jerika and Charles

The Wedding:

Vintage Ranch, Paso Robles, California

We wanted our wedding day look to be classic, timeless, and unique. I wore the Lille dress by Sarah Seven. As soon as I laid my eyes on it, I knew it was going to be special. The low cut neck line and open back added a touch of modern fashion, the capped sleeves added a classic look, and the delicate sequins just took my breath away. To top off the look, I wore Charles‘ grandmothers pearls paired with Margaret Elizabeth’s ‘Moonstone Sausalito Bangle” and her “Petite Moonstone Crawlers.”

Charles‘ suit was custom made in San Francisco by Ryan, the owner of Tailors’ Keep. Andi, our wedding coordinator, suggested a blue velvet blazer and as soon as I saw pictures, I knew it would be a perfect match for my dress. (And boy did he look stunning!!)

Alexandra, our photographer, was a dream come true and a phenomenal photographer! She was fast yet thoughtful, flawless, and went with the flow. Alli captured photos I didn’t even think of capturing and made us feel so comfortable in front of the camera even though we are both so camera shy. Alli was so great about capturing real moments and blending in with all that was happening. We couldn’t have chosen a better photographer! We love you, Alli!

From the groom: The most memorable part was all the laughter, tears of joy, and love that happened throughout the whole day. Our non-traditional ceremony was officiated by our good friend Bernie. Our vows were filled with passion and jokes, which carried on through the toasts and dancing. It’s a night we will never forget.

We personalized our wedding with a few DIY projects and custom pieces we found and could use in our everyday lives/home décor. The biggest project was practicing my calligraphy to make our welcome sign, seating chart, place cards, ice cream menu, and bar menu. It was so much fun!

Some items we took form around our home were galvanized letters, a customized succulent letter planter (made by my best friend Terri), and a felt letter board that we used to display our dinner menu.

Processional – “Paris in June” by Johnnyswim
Recessional – “Crystals” by Of Monsters and Men
First Dance – “Elouise” by The Lumineers

From the bride: For me, the most memorable time of the day was the last song of the night. We weren’t planning on dancing to “Home” by Edward Sharp & The Magnetic Zeros. We thought the song would play in the background as we did our sparkler exit. But, of course, we danced to it anyways and what made it most memorable was when Charles swept me off my feet (literally!) and danced with me in his arms. It was like the whole night froze and all I could see was my husband. All I can remember was how happy and alive I felt in that very moment!
