This Couple Ditched the Beach for a Jungle-Inspired, Moroccan Villa Wedding in Tulum

January 29, 2025 | justine

A Moroccan villa, lush jungle vibes, and timeless elegance made this Tulum destination wedding an unforgettable celebration.

When Emily and Jose met at college in west Texas in 2018, they had no idea that morning gym sessions would lead to forever. Jose, a soccer player at the school, first noticed Emily when she would come in with her friend. “After seeing me at the gym, he followed me on Instagram, and we’ve been together ever since,” Emily shares. They knew they were meant to be because of how naturally they clicked and how perfectly they complemented each other. Five years later, Jose proposed on a sunny Miami beach.

Emily knew early on that she wanted a destination wedding—but not a typical beach resort event. “I wanted more of a jungle, earthy vibe,” she explains. After researching cities and comparing prices, they landed on a wedding in Tulum, Mexico. “It was perfect because it wasn’t too far from Texas, and Jose’s family speaks Spanish.”

“I didn’t want the wedding to feel too beachy,” Emily shares. She envisioned a more earthy setting with timeless details. She took her time comparing venues and reached out to wedding planners to help with the logistics. “Since I wasn’t in Mexico to visit places in person, I knew I needed a local wedding planner to help me communicate and recommend vendors.” The couple hired a Junebug Vendor Pride Maya Weddings, who helped bring Emily’s Pinterest board to life. “They were amazing and really understood my vision.”

When it came to selecting vendors, Emily’s approach was thorough. “I would look at their social media accounts to see if their work fit the vibe I was going for,” she explains. For the photography, she focused on finding someone who captured natural, in-the-moment shots with editing that matched her style. After careful research, she found exactly what she was looking for in Junebug vendor Elegance Photographie. “I didn’t want anything too posed—I wanted our photos to feel real.”

To kick off their wedding weekend, Emily and Jose hosted a welcome party and rehearsal dinner. “Even though I didn’t want a beach wedding, I wanted our guests to experience the beach while they were there,” Emily explains. The open taco bar and relaxed atmosphere set the perfect tone for the celebration. During dinner, guests were treated to an incredible sight—baby sea turtles hatching and making their way to the ocean. “It was such a special experience.”

Emily wanted her look to be timeless. “There are so many trends, but I didn’t want to look back at photos and regret my choices,” she explains. Her wedding dress was simple and elegant, while her reception dress added a touch of fun with its sparkly details.

The bridesmaids wore pearl yellow dresses, perfect for a wedding in Tulum, that were both subtle and eye-catching against the greenery, and the groomsmen’s tan suits complemented the palette perfectly.

“I saved on my dress because I knew I’d only wear it once, and it would get dirty,” Emily shares. She also prioritized budgeting for photography, food, and flowers. “The photos and videos last forever, and the food really makes the guest experience. Flowers bring the entire design together.”

The couple chose a stunning Moroccan villa surrounded by lush greenery, creating a dreamlike setting for their special day. The ceremony space was set over a serene pool with water reflecting the surrounding tropical foliage. The villa’s white facade, with its arched windows and thatched roof, was adorned with all-white arrangements.

The path leading up to the ceremony was lined with loose petals and string lights The overall look of their wedding in Tulum was modern yet organic, perfectly blending elegance with the natural surroundings. “I liked that the venue was a blank canvas,” Emily says. “It didn’t feel boho, and the architecture—with all the archways and unique details—gave it character.”

Walking down the aisle was an unforgettable moment for Emily. “Seeing my future husband standing there while a Christian song played made it incredibly personal and emotional,” she recalls. The couple wrote their own vows, filling them with personal anecdotes and humor. “Jose added some funny parts that we still laugh about today,” she adds.

The reception took place in an open-air poolside terrace. The highlight of the decor was the checkered black-and-white dance floor, which shimmered beneath a canopy of mirrored disco balls and chandeliers. “It looked beautiful in the photos and added a fun touch to the night,” Emily shares.

The tables were simple yet elegant, with dark wood, cascading runners of baby’s breath, crystal goblets, and personalized ceramic place cards. “We didn’t go overboard with small details, but the ones we did choose felt meaningful and personal,” Emily says. She filled an entire suitcase with personalized items like drink stirrers and napkins featuring her dog’s face.

Emily and Jose ensured their reception felt like a true celebration. “It’s important to make a playlist that’s diverse enough for all age groups,” Emily advises. The couple’s DJ kept the dance floor packed all night. “The checkered floor and disco balls made everything feel so festive,” Emily adds.

When asked for advice, Emily emphasizes the importance of letting go. “Don’t stress about things you can’t control. Everything will work out on that day,” she says. She also encourages couples to stay true to their vision. “There will always be trends and opinions from others, but this day is for you. Do what makes you happy.”

For Emily and Jose, their wedding in Tulum wasn’t just a celebration—it was a way to bring everyone they loved on a memorable adventure. “Everyone felt like they were on vacation,” Emily reflects. “It was a beautiful way to gather our family and friends and celebrate our story.”

Surprise Moments Add Heartfelt Touches to This Elegant Dusty Blue Wedding

January 27, 2025 | justine

Gabrielle and Daniel’s love story is equal parts charming and unique, with a fun twist that will make you smile. According to Daniel, they met when he rescued an apple Gabbie dropped at the grocery store. Gabbie, on the other hand, remembers it differently. Their real-life meet-cute involved a mutual friend who played matchmaker during a hiking trip. One follow on Instagram and a clever trivia question later, Daniel found his opening. “He told me I could either take the $10 I won from his trivia game or let him take me out for drinks. I think we all know what I picked!” Fast forward seven months from their first date, Daniel was down on one knee, asking Gabbie the question that led them to their dreamy, elegant dusty blue wedding.

For their big day, the couple chose The Grand Island Mansion, an all-inclusive venue that captured their shared love for timeless luxury. “The whole place makes you feel like you’re stepping into a different world,” Gabbie shares. They loved that the mansion took care of many logistics, from tables and chairs to catering, giving them more time to focus on the personal details. With the venue’s grandeur as a backdrop, Gabbie’s vision of dusty blue, gold, and lush greenery transformed the space into a fairytale.

For Gabrielle and Daniel, their guests’ experience was a top priority. They chose vendors who knew the venue well, ensuring everything ran smoothly. “We invested in good food and a DJ who could keep everyone on the dance floor,” Gabbie explains. Their photographer, Junebug vendor Stephane Leon Photography, and videographer were also handpicked to make sure every moment was captured beautifully.

Gabbie stunned in an ethereal ballgown with off-the-shoulder cap sleeves and intricate detailing. She paired the ensemble with dusty blue heels with gold cherry blossom embellishments.

Daniel, keeping things classic and refined, wore a custom tuxedo by Indochino, complete with personalized cuffs

The bridesmaids dazzled in satin dusty blue dresses, while the groomsmen wore sleek grey suits with matching blue ties.

The ceremony was held in front of stately columns surrounded by cypress trees, creating a dramatic yet serene backdrop. Rows of white chairs lined the stone pathway, adorned with cascading blue and white floral arrangements and greenery.

Florals framing the aisle, led guests’ eyes toward the altar with a stunning floral arch. Delicate white blossoms and vines intertwined with the columns, creating a fairytale-like ambiance. They exchanged vows under a sky that briefly opened up to let the sun shine down on them—a moment they’ll never forget.

The couple poured their hearts into DIY projects to make their elegant dusty blue wedding feel uniquely theirs. “We made our own seating chart, personalized seat tags, and even a wedding newspaper!” Gabbie explains. The newspaper was a fan favorite, filled with fun stories about their relationship, a thank-you to their guests, and trivia games tied to meaningful places in their love story.

Inside the reception hall, soft white linens draped the tables, paired with elegant gold-rimmed accents and delicate glassware. Each centerpiece was a romantic arrangement of white florals and greenery, arranged in gold vases to complement the venue’s timeless charm. Framed table numbers in ornate gold frames added a vintage touch, and the candlelight from the taper candles cast a warm, inviting glow.

The wedding cake was a showstopper—a three-tiered masterpiece in dusty blue, adorned with gold monogram detailing and handcrafted sugar flowers that seemed to bloom across its surface. The intricate design was perfectly framed by a grand chandelier, making the cake table a visual highlight of the evening.

Gabrielle and Daniel made sure their wedding day was filled with moments of joy and surprise for one another. Gabbie prepared a heartfelt video montage featuring rare family footage, including clips of Daniel’s late mother, who passed in 2018. “It was such an emotional and beautiful surprise,” Daniel recalls. Daniel, in turn, serenaded Gabbie with a rendition of Ed Sheeran’s “Tenerife Sea,” a song that holds special meaning for them.

Later in the evening, Gabbie changed into a chic dress with faux diamond embellishments and feathered sleeves— which she found on Etsy. “I wanted to shine but still feel comfortable enough to dance the night away,” she says.

The weather kept everyone on their toes, with a looming forecast of rain. “We told our guests to bring jackets just in case,” Gabbie shares. While the ceremony stayed dry, the skies opened up just in time for the reception. The couple made the most of it by moving their after-party indoors but snuck away for a private moment on the dance floor, cold sparklers lighting up the rainy evening as their videographer captured every second.

Gabrielle’s advice to couples planning their big day? “No one else knows what your wedding is supposed to look like except you. Be flexible and trust that everything will come together the way it’s meant to.”

Their wedding day was a thoughtful and meaningful celebration of who they are as a couple. Every detail, from the elegant decor to the heartfelt surprises, created a sense of intimacy and joy. Gabrielle and Daniel’s elegant dusty blue wedding was a moment in time where their story and the love of their closest friends and family came together in an unforgettable way.

This Romantic Garden Wedding Features Nearly 100 Floral Arrangements Sourced and Crafted By The Bride’s Mom

Bella and Sam’s romantic garden wedding was a floral masterpiece brought to life with love, creativity, and family. Hosted at the picturesque Hotel du Village, their celebration was a dreamy blend of vibrant blooms, personal touches, and an intimate connection to nature.

Sam and Bella, who both work in biotech sales, first met as college students at Syracuse University. Serendipitously placed in neighboring dorm rooms, they quickly became friends and officially started dating after a sorority date night set-up. Their wedding day honored their decade-long journey with heartfelt details inspired by their love of nature, family traditions, and a shared Celtic heritage.

The couple’s vision was to bring the outdoors in, creating a romantic yet formal setting infused with countryside charm. They fell in love with the first and only venue they toured, drawn to its incredible outdoor space. With their wedding held on a picturesque fall day, the setting perfectly framed their dream celebration.

The breathtaking florals—nearly 100 unique arrangements—were lovingly crafted by Bella and her mother. A lifelong gardener and creative soul, Bella’s mom took on the floral design with passion, sourcing stems from local farms and antique vases from nearby shops. The family’s barn served as a floral workshop in the days leading up to the wedding, with friends and family coming together to arrange stunning centerpieces and bouquets. Bella and Sam cherished the memory of picking fresh blooms for the bride’s bouquet.

The floral design extended to the tablescapes, which featured an array of fruits and vegetables—dripping grapes, luscious figs, pomegranates, honeynut squash, and pears—adding texture and a touch of Dutch master still-life artistry. The rich hues of the seasonal produce harmonized with the florals, creating a feast for the eyes. The wedding cake echoed this theme, decorated with cascading fruit.

The bridesmaids wore mixed and matched dresses in shades of olive green, gold, and brown, with textures like sequins, silk, and ruffles that complemented the fall landscape and added elegance to the nature-inspired palette.

Bella wore a stunning Martina Liana gown that felt like it was made for the day’s ethereal vibe. The romantic ruffles and 3D floral details gave it just the right amount of drama, while the soft ivory with subtle rose and beige undertones kept it delicate and organic.

Before their romantic garden wedding ceremony, Bella and Sam shared a private vow exchange after their first look—a cherished moment where they could reflect on their decade-long journey together.

The wedding was a true family affair. Bella’s younger sister officiated the ceremony, while Sam’s sisters performed heartfelt readings

As the sun set, the celebration seamlessly transitioned to a lively reception illuminated by golden candlelight and filled with laughter, music, and dancing.

The reception decor combined a vintage, romantic ambiance with lush floral arrangements and intricate details. Tables featured cascading centerpieces with a mix of dried and fresh blooms, creating a luxurious garden-inspired feel. The florals were displayed in antique-style vessels, adding to the vintage aesthetic.  The combination of florals, fruits, and warm candlelight captured the essence of rustic sophistication, blending old-world charm with modern romance.

Design details were carefully woven throughout the day, thanks to Bella’s sister, who created the invitation suite, menus, and signage A highlight of the decor was the hand-painted canvas seating display, depicting a landscape of Scottish highland cows. Vintage frames hung from the display, guiding guests to their tables. Table numbers featured framed woodland landscape prints, connecting the seating display, the guest gifts of printed matchboxes and bottle openers, and the overall theme.

Taper candles in deep jewel tones, paired with gold candlesticks and glass votives, contributed warmth and elegance to the setting. The tables were dressed with white linens, complemented by dark napkins and gold-rimmed chargers, creating a striking contrast. Individual place settings included beautifully designed menus, adding a personalized touch to each guest’s experience.

Later in the evening, Bella changed into a shorter party dress, ready to dance the night away.

The celebration didn’t end with the final dance. Guests continued the festivities with late-night bites at the bar before moving to the outdoor fire pits. S’mores, cocktails, and crisp fall air made for a cozy, unforgettable after-party that lasted into the early morning.

Bella and Sam’s romantic garden wedding shows us that weaving personal and family contributions into your big day can make the day even more memorable. Don’t be afraid to delegate tasks to loved ones with specific talents—they’ll cherish being part of the process, and it adds a unique, heartfelt touch to your celebration. Whether it’s flowers, design, or other elements, involving family can make your day feel like a true labor of love.

The Ultimate Guide to Putting Together Your Wedding Playlist

January 15, 2025 | justine

Keep reading for the ultimate guide to creating a wedding playlist that captures your vibe. Image by Martin Wilk.

When you think back on the weddings you’ve been to, chances are the music stands out as a key part of the experience. Maybe it was that one song that got everyone rushing to the dance floor, or the sweet melody that brought tears during the ceremony. Music has a magical way of creating moments that stick with you long after the day is over. From the background tunes that set the mood to the show-stopping anthems that keep the party alive, your wedding playlist is the heartbeat of your celebration.

The beauty of a wedding playlist is how personal it can be—tailored to your taste and reflective of your story as a couple. But putting it together can feel overwhelming with so many options out there. That’s where this guide comes in. We’ll walk you through creating a wedding playlist that perfectly captures your vibe, keeps your guests entertained, and makes every moment of your big day unforgettable.

The Ultimate Guide to Putting Together Your Wedding Playlist

1. Identify Your Wedding Vibe

Before you dive into song selection, take a moment to think about the overall vibe you want for your wedding. Are you dreaming of a romantic and elegant affair, a fun and upbeat celebration, or perhaps something quirky and unconventional? Your music choices should reflect the mood you’re aiming to create.

Questions to Ask Yourself:

  • What’s our wedding theme? (Rustic, modern, vintage, etc.)
  • Do we want mostly classic hits, modern chart-toppers, or a mix of both?
  • Are there specific genres or artists we love?

For example, a vintage-inspired wedding might lean toward jazz classics and retro hits, while a beach wedding might feature tropical tunes and laid-back acoustic melodies.

2. Break It Down by Wedding Moments

Your wedding day has distinct sections, each with its own mood and energy level. Creating playlists for each part of the day ensures the music flows seamlessly from one moment to the next.

Ceremony

This is the most sentimental part of the day. Choose songs that hold special meaning for you and your partner. You’ll need selections for:

Cocktail Hour

This is a time for mingling and lighthearted conversation. Opt for soft, upbeat background music—think acoustic covers, jazz, or mellow pop hits.

Dinner

During the meal, keep the music relaxed but engaging. Instrumentals or soulful ballads are great for maintaining a comfortable ambiance.

Reception

This is where the party kicks off! Include:

3. Mix Personal Favorites with Crowd Pleasers

Your wedding playlist should feel personal to you, but it’s also important to keep your guests in mind. A mix of your favorite songs and universally loved tracks will ensure everyone has a good time.

Tips for Achieving Balance:

  • Include a range of genres and decades to appeal to guests of all ages.
  • Add a few nostalgic hits to bring people to the dance floor.
  • Steer clear of songs with overly explicit lyrics, unless you’re sure your crowd won’t mind.

4. Organize Your Dance Floor Hits

The dance floor is where the magic happens! To keep the energy up, organize your dance songs in a way that builds momentum.

Pro Tips:

  • Start with familiar hits to get people moving.
  • Alternate between fast and slow songs to give guests a breather.
  • Save your absolute favorites for peak moments, like just after the cake cutting or toward the end of the night.

5. Don’t Forget the Do-Not-Play List

Just as important as what you want to hear is what you don’t want to hear. Whether it’s overplayed wedding staples or songs that bring back bad memories, a do-not-play list will help your DJ or band avoid any awkward moments.

6. Decide Between Live Music and a DJ

Both live bands and DJs have their pros and cons, and your choice will depend on your budget, venue, and preferences.

Live Band:

  • Pros: High energy, unique performance, customizable to your taste.
  • Cons: More expensive, limited repertoire.

DJ:

  • Pros: Wide song selection, easier to adapt to requests, usually more budget-friendly.
  • Cons: May lack the wow factor of a live band.

7. Use Technology to Your Advantage to Make Your Wedding Playlist

If you’re creating a DIY playlist, streaming platforms like Spotify or Apple Music can make the process easy and fun. Many offer pre-made wedding playlists that you can use for inspiration or tweak to fit your style.

Pro Tips:

  • Use crossfade settings to avoid awkward silences between songs.
  • Download the playlist offline to avoid connectivity issues on the big day.

8. Get Input from Your DJ, Band, or Friends

Your DJ or bandleader will have experience with weddings and can offer valuable suggestions on song choices and timing. Don’t be afraid to ask for their input!

Additionally, consider asking close friends or family members for song recommendations. They might suggest a hidden gem you hadn’t thought of.

Junebug Tip: Including a song request section on RSVPs has become a popular trend—and for good reason. It’s a simple way to involve your guests in your wedding day while adding a personal touch to the celebration.

9. Test Your Wedding Playlist

Before the big day, listen to your playlist from start to finish. Does it flow well? Are there any jarring transitions? Testing it in advance ensures everything feels cohesive.

10. Relax and Enjoy the Music

At the end of the day, your wedding playlist should reflect your personality and love story. Once the music starts playing, all that’s left to do is soak in the moment and enjoy every beat of your special day.

Putting together your wedding playlist might take a bit of effort, but it’s one of the most fun parts of wedding planning. Think of it as a soundtrack for one of the biggest days of your life, filled with songs that tell your story, celebrate your love, and get your guests moving. So take your time, enjoy the process, and don’t stress—once the music starts, you’ll be surrounded by love, laughter, and a packed dance floor.

This Historical Maine Wedding Was a Love Letter to Vintage Style, Family Heritage, and Thoughtful Curation

January 13, 2025 | marissa

couple has european-style ceremony exit

Arissa and Bobby’s love story is full of serendipity, beginning in the same hospital in Portland, Maine, where they were both born. “It only made sense to have our wedding in the state where we were both born and raised.” Their journey started in high school through choir, though they weren’t high school sweethearts. After years of friendship, they began dating when Arissa graduated. “I was college-bound and academically driven above all else,” she recalls, while Bobby admired her dedication, adding, “I was too in love with her to break things off just because we would be long-distance.”

The couple endured years of long-distance during college, living together through Covid, and eventually settling in Boston. “Getting married wasn’t a given for us, but a happy mutual decision that further solidified our choice to spend the rest of our lives together.” A year before their wedding, they eloped to simplify things, allowing them to relax and save for their dream celebration with family and friends.

As a self-proclaimed type-A planner, Arissa had a clear vision for the wedding, with Bobby fully supporting her. “He knows that I am in my element when it comes to planning, details, and aesthetics…and allowed me the space to create that I craved.” Take a look at Arissa’s actual wedding Pinterest board—we’re blown away by her vision, to be honest. The couple also hired Toni of 631 Events, their day-of coordinator, to handle the logistics. “If anyone could be my trusted body double on my wedding day, it’s her.”

With a focus on sustainability and supporting local businesses, the couple carefully curated a celebration that honored their love, their roots, and their values. Keep reading to see how Arissa and Bobby brought their dream day to life, with insights you can apply to your own big day. Their wedding journey unfolds through the lens of Junebug vendor Antoinette Photography.

A Personalized Chinese Tea Ceremony

Arissa and Bobby’s wedding was not just about the big celebration—it was also about blending cultures and honoring traditions. They held a Chinese tea ceremony, a meaningful ritual in Chinese weddings that unites families. “We had a Chinese tea ceremony (not super traditional and adjusted for our needs).”

Their custom-made wedding outfits, which Bobby’s family brought from China, featured a phoenix and dragon, symbols of balance, love, and prosperity. Red, a lucky color in Chinese culture, was prominently featured in the outfits, décor, and even the guests’ attire.

During the tea ceremony, the groom’s family was served first, followed by the bride’s family. “The family members gave us well wishes as they drank the tea and wished for a happy marriage, long life, and lots of babies (because a growing family is a positive thing),” Arissa shares.

While Bobby’s grandfather has passed, it was a heartwarming moment when his grandmother and mother received their tea. “I’m also so happy that even before we were married, I’ve been referred to by his family as his ‘wife’ and have been considered a part of the family for many years,” she adds.

One of the most unique aspects of Arissa and Bobby’s story was their decision to merge their last names into a brand new one. The combined surname not only held deep personal meaning but also honored Bobby’s Chinese heritage by creating a name that could seamlessly fit within Chinese culture.

Rather than leaving the name change process to just one partner, they tackled it together—visiting the social security office, DMV, and bank side-by-side. What could have been a tedious task for one became a shared adventure, perfectly reflecting the partnership and equity that define their relationship.

A Dream Vintage Bride

As a vintage lover with a closet that’s about 85% vintage, Arissa knew a vintage wedding dress and accessories would be the perfect choice for her. However, finding a midsize vintage gown proved to be a challenge. After struggling to find a boutique that offered vintage options in her size, she discovered Coastal Bridal Boutique on Cape Cod, where the owner, Jessica, assured her that her dream dress was possible.

The ‘80s gown, featuring bold ruffles and a dramatic train, was carefully altered with ribbing, side panels, and removable puff sleeves, staying true to its vintage style while fitting Arissa beautifully.

Arissa wearing the veil from their elopement–a layered, satin-trimmed 80s veil with a pearl-covered comb–added an extra layer of meaning to the ceremony. “It felt like a lucky charm of confidence for our wedding celebration.”

“The shoes! I love John Fluevog shoes and how funky and unique they are,” Arissa shared. “Owning several pairs, I knew I wanted my wedding shoes to be made by them. I bought the last pair available in my size! Then I topped them off with vintage shoe clips that matched the organza and pearl details in my veil and dress.”

A Western Ceremony With Unforgettable Vows

The ceremony was a heartfelt and intimate affair, with a few unexpected moments that made it even more special. One of the most heartfelt moments of the day came during the couple’s vows, which turned out to be beautifully unexpected. Arissa shared how her husband, who’s typically more introverted, had told her before the wedding that he’d written his own personal vows, surprising her since they originally planned to use a pre-written draft.  “It was another moment that made me wish I could marry him all over again.”

When it was time to read his surprise vows, Bobby admitted he’d forgotten to print them in the chaos of the wedding week. “He then proceeded to recite the most beautiful and sweet vows I have ever heard from memory and from instinct, all the while holding my hand as I smiled at him, never breaking eye contact.”

Inspired, Arissa decided to abandon her hastily written vows and spoke from the heart as well, creating an intimate and spontaneous exchange that had their guests laughing and tearing up. It was a perfectly imperfect moment that reflected their deep connection and love.

The couple opted for a “European-style” exit, with rose petals thrown by guests. “This was our photographer’s idea and one of the best choices for the wedding. Guests could get involved, we got amazing photos of the action, and it allowed strategic time for chairs to be put away and for the backstage prep for the reception to start since everyone was outside.”

To save money, Arissa thrifted 90% of the decor, including trays, candlesticks, and plates. “I saved untold amounts of money by thrifting 90% of the decor—trays, candlesticks, ribbon, plates, and more,” she shares. With the venue’s character already in place, Arissa opted for a simpler approach. “I simply did not see the need to spend thousands of dollars on greenery or installations.” The vintage-inspired details fit perfectly with the venue, creating a seamless aesthetic.

A special and sustainable detail at Arissa and Bobby’s wedding was the use of dried flower petals as table decorations. Inspired by a TikTok she had seen, Arissa decided to save and dry all the petals from the flowers Bobby had brought home for her. “After about 14 months, I had over 4 gallons of dried petals,” she recalls. Despite telling Bobby that she didn’t need any more dried roses, he continued to surprise her with more, even going so far as to pull wilting stems to hang up and dry. “He was so committed to the idea of using the dried petals for the wedding. It was a small but sweet gesture that made me appreciate him even more.”

The couple decided to allocate much of their budget toward a delayed honeymoon to Japan. “Rather than spending thousands and thousands of dollars on a wedding that only lasts a day, we would rather spend that money on a delayed honeymoon trip to Japan, somewhere we have both wanted to visit since before we started dating. Money was rather spent wisely for our special day. Our biggest area of the budget was photography. And words cannot explain how incredibly worth it it was.”

Reflecting on their approach to the wedding, “We wouldn’t change a thing about it. Do what feels right for you. For us, having an elopement just for us, a mini honeymoon, a family holiday celebration in 2023, and a ‘proper’ wedding ceremony a year later was the perfect way to stretch our budget and enjoy the time and celebrations we needed.”

“Already being husband and wife, I didn’t feel for a second that our ‘wedding’ with our friends and family was any less special.” Celebrating their anniversary with loved ones only deepened the experience. Ultimately, their wedding was a celebration of their shared journey, reminding them that the most important thing is cherishing each other’s company, no matter the occasion.

This Pop Diva-Inspired Wedding Included Choreography, Disco Glamor, and Pure Queer Joy

January 9, 2025 | justine

Alessandro and Giulio’s love story began on a magical carnival night in 2012, under the shimmering glow of a mirror ball in a famous Roman nightclub. Dancing to pop diva anthems, they felt an instant connection. “It was a crush. It was love,” they shared. After 12 years of building a life  and creating a home together, they decided it was time to celebrate their journey by saying “the fateful yes” in front of their loved ones. And a pop diva-inspired wedding was the perfect expression of their personalities and the enchantment that has defined their love story.

True to how their story began, their wedding was a dazzling celebration inspired by the world of queer disco—a nod to their love for pop divas who champion free love and self-expression. The event blended the sparkle of mirror balls with pastel hues of pink, yellow, and orange, creating an atmosphere that was both elegant and electric. “We worked hard for an entire year to make the most important day of our lives happen,” they said, describing how they designed the concept, style, and even the setlist for their big day.

Alessandro and Giulio’s vision required a team of bold and creative collaborators. “We knew it wouldn’t be a conventional wedding,” they said. “We needed courageous vendors who embraced our aesthetic idea.” From floral designs to accessories that captured the disco vibe, every detail was meticulously planned—even if it meant their initial budget doubled. “We are very meticulous and capricious,” Alessandro laughed. “We want everything to be as we say, at any cost!”

Read on to discover how the couple brought their pop diva-inspired wedding to life, captured beautifully through the lens of Junebug vendor Cristiana Fiorini.

The couple’s attire set the tone for the celebration. Alessandro donned a striking Dolce & Gabbana white silk suit paired with silver Western boots and a silky tank top. “It made me feel like a superhero,” he said. Giulio opted for a bespoke ivory suit from Cerruti, accented with a vintage opal necklace from his mother. “I felt like a contemporary Tony Manero,” he shared.

The ceremony, held in a deconsecrated convent, was both touching and joyful. A dear friend—and drag queen—officiated, delivering a heartfelt speech about universal love. “Half the guests were crying even before we entered.”

After the ceremony, Alessandro and Giulio skipped the traditional photo session to greet guests and soak in the love and energy of the moment. Exiting to Madonna’s “Like a Prayer,” they danced their way into the reception.

The reception was the epitome of a disco dream. Alessandro and Giulio made a grand entrance with a choreographed mashup of “Rumore” by Raffaella Carrà and Madonna’s “Music-Disco Inferno” remix. “When we arrived, people went crazy,” they recalled. “Everyone was screaming, dancing—it was incredible energy. We felt like real pop stars!”

This pop diva-inspired wedding transformed their venue into a dazzling celebration of love and joy. Guests enjoyed drinks in a serene cloister while a band played joyful tunes. Dinner took place under a cascade of string lights and stars, with white tablescapes accented by colorful single-stem arrangements and glitter ball centerpieces.

The couple took on many projects themselves, from invitations to handmade wedding favors. “Our house was invaded by candles!” They joked about the hours spent creating custom favors featuring their favorite pop divas, which also served as table names. The effort paid off—the candles were a hit, with guests eagerly taking them home.

The night was full of surprises, including a hilarious interruption during Alessandro’s love dedication to Giulio by their drag queen friend, leaving guests both laughing and speechless. “What made our wedding unique was the immense energy of our guests,” they said. “They were all beautiful, and we were overwhelmed by their love.”

The old carpentry shop turned into the ultimate party zone. Under sparkling disco balls and glowing lights, guests filled the dance floor, letting loose to the beat of pop hits. Alessandro and Giulio brought the energy, leading the crowd alongside their fabulous drag queen friend, who kept everyone hyped up. The space buzzed with laughter, cheers, and non-stop dancing—pure joy from start to finish.

Planning such a unique event wasn’t without challenges. “Giulio is calmer and lets things go,” Alessandro explained. “I’m a control freak who plans every detail because success is in the timing.” Despite fiery moments during the planning process, their focus on enjoying the day paid off.

Their wedding was not just a celebration of their love but also a testament to the power of self-expression and community. This pop diva-inspired wedding was a perfect blend of disco glamor, heartfelt moments, and pure queer joy. “We danced, sang, and involved everyone in our party,” they shared. “It was everything we dreamed of and more.”

A Floral Rue de Seine Wedding Dress Inspired this Nature-Filled Celebration

January 2, 2025 | justine

When Taylor and Siegen started planning their wedding, they knew one thing for certain: the dress would be the star. Siegen’s stunning floral Rue de Seine wedding dress became the centerpiece of their nature-inspired celebration, shaping everything from the florals to the reception decor.  n

“It was challenging because Taylor didn’t want to see the dress until the wedding day,” shared Siegen. “He was super hands-off about the dress, but he ended up coordinating so many other details, like his suit, the flowers, and even the reception design.”

The couple’s vision came together perfectly, thanks in large part to the inspiration from the floral wedding gown. The color palette reflected the soft, breezy feeling of pre-autumn, with hues that perfectly complemented the gown’s romantic floral details. “I wanted something organic and nature-inspired, but Taylor wanted a more modern feel,” Siegen explained. “Somehow, it all clicked and ended up looking so cohesive.”

Their chosen venue, The Oaks, echoed that balance of nature and modernity. “The venue was just right—quaint garden vibes with luxury amenities,” Taylor said. “We looked at so many options, but this one was perfect for what we envisioned.”

Take a closer look at the meaningful moments from Taylor and Siegen’s wedding, captured beautifully by Junebug vendor McKenzie Bigliazzi Photography. These images bring their love story to life, showcasing the special details and unforgettable moments that made their day truly unique.

For Taylor, the moment Siegen walked down the aisle in her floral Rue de Seine wedding dress was something he would never forget. “Seeing Siegen in her dress was magical—just unforgettable,” he shared. “It’s a memory I’ll carry with me forever.”

Siegen felt the same way when she saw Taylor standing at the altar. “Seeing him in his suit and sharing our vows was everything,” Siegen said. “And the decor—it was amazing. We’re still getting compliments about it!” She also gave a special shout-out to KaraKara Blooms, the designer responsible for the stunning floral arrangements.

When it comes to their favorite wedding photos, both Taylor and Siegen had standout moments. Taylor’s favorite was a stunning shot of Siegen in her floral dress, framed by the flower arch and trees in the background. “That shot is just perfect,” he said.

Their photographer, McKenzie Bigliazzi, captured these unforgettable moments, and Siegen had nothing but praise. “McKenzie was incredible. Not only was she our photographer, but she also helped us plan everything. She was calm, patient, and just executed everything perfectly.”

While they originally set a $25,000 budget for their wedding, Taylor and Siegen ended up doubling that amount, spending over $50,000 to ensure everything was perfect. “We wanted this day to be unforgettable, so we didn’t hold back,” Siegen shared. “The florals, the food, the venue—all of those things were worth splurging on.”

“We kept our guest list smaller, which helped balance the cost,” Taylor added. “We stuck to close family and friends, which ended up reducing costs but allowed us to really focus on the things that mattered most.”

Create a whimsical wedding table aesthetic with moss, garden florals, and these glass hurricane candle holders.

And, of course, they had plenty of fun at the reception. “The photo booth was a hit with everyone,” Siegen said. “It was such a fun way to capture memories throughout the night.”

Despite their large splurge on decor and venue, Taylor and Siegen made sure to keep things personal and fun. They even created mini “Post-Wedding Weekend Recovery” kits for guests, anticipating a few sore heads the morning after. “We thought it might get a little wild, so we wanted to make sure our guests were taken care of!”

The couple also appreciated the support from their vendors. “Love, Emily Bakery was amazing. She stepped in at the last minute to cater the cake and desserts and was so easy to work with,” said Taylor. “Everything she made was delicious!”

The DJ also received high praise for his ability to time everything perfectly. “He kept the vibe exactly how we wanted it,” Siegen added.

Taylor and Siegen have some valuable tips for couples planning their own weddings. “Definitely plan to double—or even triple—your original budget,” Taylor said. “We started with $25,000 in mind but ended up spending around $50,000. And it still wasn’t quite enough!”

Siegen added, “And when it comes to the guest list, be clear about how many invites you’re sending. We only allowed one invitation per couple, not per person, which helped keep things intimate.”

Their final piece of advice? “Start thinking about your wedding songs and timing well in advance. It makes everything run smoother when you’ve planned ahead!”

In the end, Taylor and Siegen’s wedding was everything they imagined—a floral-filled celebration that perfectly balanced organic beauty with modern flair, all thanks to the inspiration from the floral Rue de Seine wedding dress.

Refreshing Spring Wedding Ideas

January 1, 2025 | Junebug Weddings

Get inspired by these spring wedding ideas, perfect for a celebration full of seasonal charm! Image by Mckenzie Bigliazzi

Spring weddings are all about fresh beginnings, blooming florals, and effortlessly romantic vibes. With longer days, warmer weather, and nature coming back to life, it’s the perfect season to embrace light, airy, and colorful details. From pastel color palettes to garden-inspired decor, spring weddings offer endless ways to celebrate the season of renewal. If you’re planning a springtime celebration, here are some refreshing spring wedding ideas to make your special day feel as vibrant as the season itself.

Spring Wedding Ideas

Trees as Ceremony Centerpieces

Spring is the perfect time to incorporate nature into your wedding design. If your venue features blooming trees, use them as a natural focal point for your ceremony. Drape soft fabric from the branches for an ethereal touch, hang chandeliers or lanterns to create a romantic glow, or weave in fresh blooms to enhance the seasonal beauty. Whether as a statement altar backdrop or subtle decorative accents, trees add an organic elegance that seamlessly blends with the surroundings.

Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Experience

Take advantage of the fresh spring air by creating a natural flow between indoor and outdoor spaces. Large open doors, glass walls, or tented areas help blend the beauty of nature with the comfort of an indoor setting. Enhance the transition with lush greenery, potted plants, or soft, airy fabrics to create a cohesive, inviting atmosphere. Whether it’s a garden-inspired reception or a courtyard ceremony that leads seamlessly into an indoor celebration, this approach lets you enjoy the best of both worlds.

Flora-Lined Curvy Aisle

A curvy aisle is a standout 2025 wedding trend, bringing a natural, whimsical touch to your ceremony. Instead of a straight path, a winding aisle lined with wild greenery, wispy grasses, and delicate florals creates an organic yet refined look. This ties into the Refined Naturale aesthetic—where overgrown textures meet effortless elegance. You don’t need an abundance of flowers to achieve this dreamy feel; layers of greenery, soft earthy tones, and natural movement make for a romantic and visually stunning entrance.

Spring Beauty Looks

A spring wedding is the perfect time to keep your beauty look fresh and effortless. Dewy skin, rosy cheeks, and soft pink lips create a natural, radiant glow. For hair, loose braids, soft waves, and relaxed styles add to the breezy, romantic feel of the season. A light floral fragrance like Daisy Wild by Marc Jacobs or Bloom by Gucci ties it all together, while pastel nails offer a subtle, polished touch. It’s an easy, timeless approach that feels just right for a spring celebration.

Interactive Flower Bar

A flower bar is a fun and interactive way to incorporate florals into your wedding. Let guests create their own mini bouquets or floral crowns as a unique keepsake from your big day.

Picnic-Style Lounge Areas or Reception

For a relaxed and intimate reception, create cozy picnic-style lounge areas with blankets, pillows, and low tables. This is especially fitting for an outdoor garden or backyard wedding.

Tree Planting Ritual

A tree planting ceremony is a beautiful way to symbolize your growing love. You and your partner can add soil and water together, representing the care and commitment that will help your relationship thrive. Plus, it’s a fun, eco-friendly touch!

JB Tip: Choose a tree that thrives in your climate and wedding location, or opt for a potted plant that can be taken home and replanted later.

Floral Wedding Attire

Spring is the perfect excuse to embrace floral wedding fashion. Brides can go for embroidered floral gowns, printed dresses, or delicate appliqués, while grooms and wedding party members can incorporate floral ties, pocket squares, or even full floral suits. We also love to see the mother of the bride incorporate florals, as well as bridesmaids, or even guests! Request a spring-inspired dress code by asking guests to wear soft pastels, vibrant hues, or even floral prints for a lively, seasonal touch. Whether through dresses, accessories, or boutonnieres, florals can beautifully tie everyone into the celebration’s aesthetic.

Floating Florals

If your venue has a pool, pond, or fountain, consider adding floating florals! From floating arrangements to sprinkled petals to lotus-shaped candles, there are several creative ways to add this romantic and unique touch.

Pastel Monochrome Bridesmaids

Create a soft, dreamy look by having each bridesmaid wear a different pastel shade while carrying a bouquet that perfectly matches their dress. This subtle monochrome effect adds depth to your bridal party while keeping the overall aesthetic cohesive and elegant. To enhance the seasonal feel, choose spring blooms in complementary hues.

Fruit as Centerpieces

A fresh take on traditional florals, fruit centerpieces are a top 2025 wedding trend. Citrus fruits like lemons and oranges or berries and figs bring a natural, vibrant element to tablescapes.

Floral-Infused Drinks

Add a fun, spring-inspired touch to your cocktails by incorporating edible flowers. Freeze them into ice cubes for a pretty (and easy!) detail, or go all out with a floral ice sculpture as a statement piece. For a simple but elegant touch, just pop a few edible blooms right into the drink.

Brunch or Afternoon Tea Reception

A spring wedding pairs perfectly with a daytime brunch reception. Serve mimosas, fresh fruit, and seasonal dishes for a relaxed and stylish way to celebrate. Or, go the direction of a whimsical tea party, mix colorful table settings with delicate prints, lace, or moss.

Style, Symbolism, and Reverence: Inside a Magical Realism Destination Wedding in Oaxaca

December 27, 2024 | justine

When Irene and Davis decided to have their destination wedding in Oaxaca, they wanted more than a picture-perfect day—they wanted to create a story. Inspired by literature, local traditions, and their shared love for art and architecture, their celebration became a breathtaking blend of culture, creativity, and connection. From a serene museum courtyard ceremony to a reception straight out of a dream, every detail reflected their vision and personality.

For them, Oaxaca wasn’t just a location—it was a feeling. “Our first trip as a couple was to Mexico, and Oaxaca immediately captured our hearts,” they shared. “We wanted our loved ones to experience the warmth and beauty of the place that felt like home to us.”

Planning from afar came with its challenges, but thanks to their planner, Marcela Gonzalez, everything came together seamlessly. Over nine months, Irene and Davis poured their hearts into designing a wedding that was both authentic and unforgettable.

Chucho Potts, their photographer, was captivated from the start. “Every shot felt like art. Irene and Davis put so much of themselves into this day—it was pure inspiration everywhere I turned.”

Irene chose a stunning Schiaparelli draped two-tone bustier gown they spotted together at Bergdorf’s. “We loved the contrast—the ecru satin bustier against the black velvet back,” she said. Her gold Piferi platforms added a bold, sculptural touch.

Davis complemented her look with a sleek Gucci tuxedo and Saint Laurent loafers, and the couple even co-designed a bow for Irene’s hair, inspired by the Korean doturak daenggi tradition. “We threw out all the old wedding rules. We styled each other, shopped together, and had a blast doing it.”

The morning of the wedding was filled with last-minute touches—steaming clothes, revising scripts—but all the stress melted away when they saw each other for the first time. “It was like we could finally breathe.”

Their ceremony took place at Museo Belber, a hidden gem celebrating Oaxaca’s rich craft history. Guests moved through the museum’s tranquil courtyards before arriving at an intimate space where Irene and Davis exchanged vows. Minimalist yet intentional, the setting featured a simple white stage, a stucco backdrop, and delicate calla lilies—a nod to Irene’s childhood in California.

Their mothers officiated the ceremony in vibrant hanboks, while a guitarist and bassist played an acoustic version of the K-pop hit “Eternal Love” for Irene’s entrance—a sweet surprise from Davis. And in a surreal twist, a bee stung Irene’s aunt mid-ceremony. “She stayed so calm—it felt like a whimsical little omen for the day.”

The theme of magical realism wove through every element of their day. “We wanted something familiar but unexpected, strange but serene,” they explained. Inspiration came from Italo Calvino’s Under the Jaguar Sun and Oaxaca’s Noche de Rábanos festival, which celebrates radish carving as an art form.

After the ceremony, guests spilled into the streets for a vibrant calenda—a lively Oaxacan tradition featuring music, dancing, and pure joy. Accompanied by a brass band, they paraded through the cobblestone streets, celebrating with a mix of locals and travelers alike.

In a lucky and unexpected moment, they even joined another wedding’s parade, turning two celebrations into one big, joyful party. “It felt like the whole city was celebrating with us,” Irene and Davis said.

The reception was where their theme of magical realism truly came to life. The setting was a stunning showcase—calla lilies appeared to dance in fountains and peek through playful arrangements of Chinese long beans. Drawing inspiration from a blend of traditions, the decor seamlessly married the intricate food towers of the Korean pyebaek ceremony with the festive spirit of Oaxaca’s Noche de Rábanos.

For the overall design, Irene and Davis collaborated with San Jacinto to create a space that felt ethereal yet intimate. Inspired by Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s iconic wrapped installations, they draped parts of the architecture in soft fabric, adding a layer of tenderness and warmth. “We loved how wrapping the space made it feel more inviting and dreamlike.”

They kept the decor intentional and minimal, allowing the natural beauty of Casa Oaxaca and their guests to take center stage. “The space didn’t need much—it was already stunning. We just wanted to add a little magic and let the love and energy of the night do the rest.”

The couple’s design inspiration was eclectic yet cohesive: Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s ephemeral art, the structured elegance of pyebaek food towers, the quirky creativity of Gohar World, and the structural floral designs of Grace Jolie and Aiku Floral. Each detail reflected their shared love for art, architecture, and storytelling, weaving their personalities into every corner of the celebration.

“Our goal was to create a space that felt dramatic yet tender, a reflection of our relationship and the people we love. The decor was just the backdrop; the real beauty came from the joy and warmth everyone brought to the evening.”

For dinner, Chef Ruiz of Casa Oaxaca crafted dishes that celebrated Oaxacan flavors. “Our first date included pork and octopus,” Irene shared. “Davis broke his vegetarianism for me that day, so it felt poetic to share those dishes with everyone.”

Irene changed into a chic asymmetrical ruffle-trim gown, perfectly blending elegance and playfulness. With the formalities behind them, the energy shifted as guests hit the dance floor, swept up in laughter, music, and pure joy. Under the glow of party lights and the magic of the Oaxacan night, the celebration became an unforgettable party where everyone let loose.

For couples dreaming of a destination wedding, Irene and Davis had this to say: “Respect the land, its people, and its culture. Oaxaca is changing quickly, and we wanted to honor its history while celebrating our own.”

From the heartfelt ceremony to the playful, artful reception, their wedding wasn’t just an event—it was an experience. Irene and Davis brought their story to life in a way that honored the past, celebrated the present, and inspired everyone lucky enough to be a part of it.
