Romantic 74Wythe Wedding Complete With Epic Views of the NYC Skyline

June 15, 2023 | kailey

Cristi and Devin took on the challenge of transforming a single enchanting wedding space into an unforgettable celebration of love. And with mesmerizing New York City skyline views, their choice to host both their ceremony and reception on the 74Wythe wedding rooftop just made sense. But, it wasn’t going to be easy to pull off on their own. They needed a talented team of wedding vendors to effortlessly achieve their seemingly impossible wedding vision

The outdoor venue, featuring a retractable glass enclosure, was draped in twinkling lights and neutral florals by Botanique. These subtle decor additions to the existing urban aesthetic made the perfect ‘I do’ location to kick off their celebration. After exchanging sweet handwritten vows and sealing them with a kiss, their ceremony decor was repurposed to seamlessly transition the space into an unforgettable reception. The long banquet-style tables were decorated with fresh white linens, clustered floral centerpieces, and subtle pop-of-color navy blue napkins. The perfectly timed sunset made for a memorable first dance and intimate dinner amongst loved ones.

From the modern fashion choices to the stunning venue transformation, Amy Sims Photography captured every unforgettable detail that’ll empower you to embrace the unconventional and plan a wedding uniquely yours.

How To Handle Speed Bumps During Wedding Planning

We are most proud of having planned this celebration during the pandemic. Wedding planning is already complicated without the COVID restrictions that were in place early on in our journey. Some venues would only allow us to see the site via Zoom, or bridal salons only allowed the bride to be at appointments. We didn’t get the typical wedding planning experience, but we wouldn’t change anything because the end result was perfect.

Choosing To Get Ready Together Until The First Look At Their 74Wythe Wedding

We decided to get ready together up until it was time to put on my dress. The most memorable moment was when we saw each other for the first time and said our private vows. It was the most tender moment, and I wish I could have paused time and stayed there forever. Another poignant point was when we took a moment to ourselves and just took in the sight of all that had gathered to celebrate our love. We were so moved that we’re so blessed.

Advice: Don’t Be Afraid To Ditch Tradition

We agreed early on that we would do exactly what we wanted and stuck to that commitment while planning. It made for a much more enjoyable experience on the day of. We chose to leave out quite a few traditions that didn’t make sense to us and kept the focus on having a fun time. Why disrupt the momentum of the evening to make everyone watch us cut a cake when they could be catching up with old friends or breaking it down on the dance floor? Another piece of advice is to check in with your partner during the planning process. Ask how they are doing and how they are feeling. It can get very stressful, but it’s helpful to have your partner remind you that it’s all meant to be fun and that, at the end of the day, it’s going to be amazing.

Taking A Leap Of Faith On Their New Wedding Venue

We are both from New York, so we have been to many of the existing venues in the city for loved ones’ weddings, and we were worried we wouldn’t find something that really fit us. 74 Wythe had only recently opened and hadn’t yet had their first event when we visited. Choosing a brand new venue was a leap of faith, but when we saw the roof and the spectacular view, we knew it was the right place. We snagged one of only two remaining dates available in 2022!

Cozy Candlelit Hewing Hotel Wedding With An Abundance of Florals

June 14, 2023 | justine

Erin and Colin may not have grown up in Minnesota, but they quickly developed a deep love for the state. Captivated by the vibrant autumn colors, they were determined to bring the essence of this beautiful season into their wedding day. Together with their skilled team of vendors, they created a warm and inviting atmosphere by incorporating a color palette of neutral tones and natural foliage. The addition of cozy candlelight added a touch of enchantment to the ambiance. However, the true showstoppers were the mesmerizing floral arrangements that adorned their Hewing Hotel wedding.

Hewing Hotel is undeniably captivating. Glimmering vintage-style chandeliers gracefully adorn the space, complemented by the grandeur of expansive windows and the charm of exposed brick walls and ceiling beams. As the couple exchanged their vows and celebrated their reception, they were enveloped by the beauty of floor-to-ceiling arrangements of lush blooms, accompanied by the rich colors of fall foliage. The golden and soft lighting added a touch of warmth and elegance to the ambiance, creating an unforgettable atmosphere for their special day.

We could continue sharing our excitement, but we believe these captivating images captured by Clewell Photography speak volumes. If you’re seeking a wedding that seamlessly blends old-world charm with modern elegance, this is the perfect inspiration for you.

Erin and Colin

The Wedding:

Hewing Hotel, Minneapolis, Minnesota

Why a Hewing Hotel Wedding

When we walked into the venue together for the first time, it felt the most like “us.” As some would say, Hewing Hotel is definitely “a vibe.” Housed in a historic building converted into a hotel, Hewing has retained many of the original rustic elements that give older buildings unique charm. The brick walls, arched windows, and numerous nods to the state of Minnesota itself captured our hearts. Although we both grew up outside of Minnesota, it was essential for us to provide our out-of-town guests with an authentic experience of our new state’s culture, both literally and figuratively. Much of our menu showcased local ingredients, allowing our guests to savor the flavors of Minnesota.

Choosing Their “Top 3” Priorities to Create  Their Wedding Budget

While planning our wedding budget, we selected our “top 3” most important aspects that we were willing to splurge on: floral arrangements, food, and ceremony music. We opted for more budget-friendly options for the other items that were lower on our priority list. This strategy helped us focus our time and funds on what we knew would make the most significant overall impression on us and, hopefully, our guests. We were pleasantly surprised by how quickly wedding expenses can accumulate as the guest list and wedding party numbers increase. Because of this, we decided to have a more intimate wedding size, which was the perfect choice for us. One of the things we cherished the most was the opportunity to engage in conversations with every guest at the wedding, which isn’t always feasible with a larger group.

Crafting Personalized Vows and Curating a Modern Ceremony Soundtrack

We wrote our own vows, adding a personal touch to the solemn exchange of promises. Another delightful aspect of our wedding was selecting songs for the string quartet to play before, during, and after the ceremony. Rather than opting for the traditionally played classical music, we requested popular songs commonly heard on the radio. Imagine the elegant sounds of Ed Sheeran’s “Shivers” and Guns N Roses’ “Sweet Child of Mine” beautifully rendered by the quartet. It felt like we were getting married to the enchanting soundtrack of “Bridgerton,” creating a magical ambiance that added to the joyous atmosphere of our special day.

A Blissful Private Moment After the Ceremony to Soak in the Moment

The most memorable part of the day was the moments after the “I do” but before we joined our guests for the reception. We took some time, just the two of us, to bask in that “we just got married!” feeling. We even had a selection of appetizers and champagne to enjoy before returning to the party. It was so wonderful to take a beat to slow down and really let the day wash over us, keeping the wedding from becoming a blur of events and emotions.

Wedding Advice: Book Your Venue and Preferred Vendors as Soon as Possible

So much of the planning process–from décor to guest count–depends on the space you’re working with, so book your venue first. Please also note that the time of year you choose will significantly impact other bookings. For example, some hair and makeup artists have a minimum service requirement during the busier months but are more relaxed during the off-season. Similarly, some services and rental companies may charge higher prices for their products during the popular wedding months.

The Sentimental Significance of Their DIY Guest Quilt

We had a DIY guest book of sorts. The mother of the bride and the mother of the groom are quilters, so we enlisted their help for a special joint project: a guest quilt! Connie, my mom, sewed several individual quilt squares for guests to sign, replacing a traditional guest book. Following the wedding, Linda, Colin’s mom, skillfully stitched the quilt squares together, creating a blanket we can cherish and snuggle with for years to come. It is incredibly meaningful to have this heartfelt creation by both of our moms as a memento of our wedding day.

Designing an Extraordinary Experience For Their Beloved Guests

We genuinely love how everything came together. During wedding planning, it can be challenging to visualize how each piece will look in one room, especially with elements like floral arrangements, where you don’t see the final product until the wedding day. Additionally, we take immense pride in the experience we provided for our guests. From the music to the food and everything in between, we selected every aspect of our day with love, hoping our guests would feel the depth of our gratitude for their presence as we celebrated such a special occasion together.

Taking inspiration from the autumn season can elevate your event to the next level. Consider creating a seasonal color palette that reflects the warm and vibrant hues of fall, setting the perfect tone for your gathering. Let your themed invitations serve as a preview or coordinate signature cocktails that complement the overall decor and theme. By incorporating these cozy ideas into your autumn affair, you can create a memorable event that embraces the beauty and spirit of fall.

Ethereal and Elegant Isle of Skye Elopement

June 13, 2023 | justine

Isle of Skye elopement

Lauren and Hayley had always dreamed of an Isle of Skye elopement after discovering the stunning destination years ago. Being together since 2012, tying the knot held deep meaning for them. But they had to put their plans on hold due to life’s demands. However, their determination never wavered. Ten months before the elopement, they contacted their photographer, and luck was on their side—he had an available date in Skye. Taking it as a sign, they knew it was meant to be.

Their day started with getting ready at their Airbnb, where they enjoyed the stunning scenery. After their first look, they fulfilled their wish of taking photos at a Scottish castle, braving a muddy hike to reach their ceremony location. Surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, they exchanged heartfelt vows, embracing the natural beauty that surrounded them.

They continued their explorations until late into the evening, capturing ethereal portraits illuminated by glowing lamps. It all came to an end when the couple retreated to a cozy cabin where they signed their marriage license, enjoyed a delightful meal, and shared laughter and heartfelt conversations. If you dream of saying “I do” in a breathtaking exclusive location, take a moment to browse through these gorgeous photos by the talented Henry Tieu. Let this adventurous love story inspire you to plan your own romantic getaway in a faraway place.

Henry Tieu’s Take on This Isle of Skye Elopement

Lauren and Hayley’s adventurous elopement in Scotland marked my final international elopement of the year. Despite November’s rainy season, they remained determined to proceed with their plans and let nothing dampen their love-filled celebration. It was one of the most exhilarating days I’ve ever encountered. Rain poured whenever we sought shelter indoors but miraculously ceased whenever we were ready for outdoor adventures.

How Their Isle of Skye Elopement Came to Be

When we contacted Henry about ten months before our elopement, he was available in the Dolomites and Skye. The date on Skye was the only one that would work for us, so we took it as a sign. Years ago, we discovered the Isle of Skye online and planned to elope there. However, we put it on hold due to life getting busy. We were initially drawn to Skye because of its breathtaking pictures and the captivating atmosphere it conveyed. It truly is one of the most special places in the world, with a rich history and mystical folklore. It has an ethereal and whimsical fairytale feel with an underlying elegance.

A Memorable Moment Alone Amongst Scotland’s Cliffs

Besides the rainbows we saw all day, the most memorable part was probably the end of the day. The sun had set over Skye and Old Man Storr, and we were alone on a small cliff, looking out at the ocean, holding lanterns under the bright full moon. There was an extraordinary calmness in the air, accompanied by the gentle glow of the moment.

Exchanging Heartfelt and Sentimental Gifts As a Reminder of The Family at Home

I surprised Hayley with a wedding band from her mom with a diamond in it. It was the first diamond that her dad ever gave her mom. And since we were eloping and going to be away from family, I had Hayley’s parents write her a letter that I handed her that night when we got back from the day.

Authenticity Above All: Crafting A Celebration That Truly Reflected Their Love Story

The most important part of planning our wedding was that it was true to us and about us. We have been together since 2012, and finally tying the knot held deep significance. Therefore, ensuring that we could fully be with each other in a special place was crucial. Additionally, we wanted to have photographs that we would cherish, so the very first thing we did was find Henry.
