Elegantly Boho Arizona Desert Wedding

August 4, 2022 | riley

More often than not, the setting of a wedding creates the atmosphere. And nothing amplifies romance more than a picturesque secluded location, jaw-dropping desert mountain views, and an earthy boho aesthetic. With feathery florals, a soft color palette, and chic wedding fashion, Kyle and Matt’s Arizona desert wedding certainly had the swoon-worthy factor. With the help of their amazing vendor team, the pair pulled off a timeless yet unconventional celebration with their closest and dearest loved ones

With a geometric arch perfectly framing the majestic mountains in the background, the pair said their sweetest “I dos.” The reception on-site featured a charming al fresco dining setting under the stars and string lights complete with a cozy lounge and a chic vintage camper. It was a romantic, intimate Arizona desert wedding with one heck of a view!

If dreamy boho vibes are your thing, then get ready to be blown away. Their special day was brimming with emotional moments and panoramic desert views, all of which Saje Photography captured so beautifully. Scroll down to see what we mean.

Finding The Perfect Officiant Whose Values Perfectly Aligned With Theirs

It was important for us to find a wedding officiant who could speak to our Christian faith while recognizing that the wedding could feel untraditional for a same-sex couple. Although many trailblazers came before us doing the same, it felt like a first for many of the guests.

Personalizing Their Ceremony By Drawing Inspiration From Their Love Story

We leaned heavily into storytelling during the ceremony. Our officiant was incredible–one of the most talented speakers I know. He did an excellent job telling our story from start to finish by highlighting key dates, favorite bible verses, jokes, and, most importantly, our faith.

How The Elegantly Boho Arizona Desert Wedding Came To Be

Our initial wedding was planned to take place in Temecula, CA which was exciting because it celebrated my upbringing in New York surrounded by gorgeous wineries. However, due to COVID, we had to postpone the wedding. During the pandemic, we spent some time in Palm Springs as a ‘get out of the house’ effort and fell in love with the desert. Fast forward to mid-2020, we moved to Scottsdale, AZ. We wanted the wedding to speak for itself using the natural beauty of the desert. I like to call our decor style and set up ‘organic,’ pulling from the best parts of nature in the middle of nowhere.

Advice For Creating An Intimate Guest List

We are so proud of every component, but I believe we are most proud of our intimate guest list. The event was filled with people we genuinely know and love. If someone is not an “absolute yes,” then it’s okay to protect your special day by politely not adding them to your guest list.

Why You Should Find A Photographer That Fits Your Personal Style

I didn’t realize how important our level of comfortability with our photographer was until I spent the day with Samantha and her team. My biggest piece of advice is to find a photographer that fits your style and, of course, has wonderful talent, but also lean into the qualities and characteristics that are most important to you. For us, that was kindness, hard work, grace, and good communication. Saje Photography embodies all that, and we plan to use them for all projects and future life events

Utterly Adorable Osage House Wedding

August 2, 2022 | justine

Less doesn’t mean boring, and this Osage House wedding is proof of that. With a dreamy modern venue, dusty blue accents for that pop of color, and Chick-fil-A catering—Libby and Ashton brought to life their personality-packed celebration in just two months with the help of their amazing planner Amanda Reed Weddings.

Complete with vaulted ceilings, floor-to-ceiling picture windows, and a serene ambiance—the Osage House Chapel made for the perfect jaw-dropping ceremony backdrop. Mirroring the chapel’s all-white and modern aesthetic, the party continued at the equally gorgeous Osage House. From start to finish, this celebration shows that there truly is beauty in simplicity.

Why They Decided To Host Their Wedding Osage House

When I was 18, I went to a wedding at the Osage House, and I fell in love with the venue. I remember thinking if Ashton proposed to me, I would want to be married there. So, when he proposed, all it took was a trip to their website and a few emails to finalize it.

They Built A Great Working Relationship With Their Photographer

Working with our photographer, Laura of Boston Mountain Photo, was like a dream. I can’t recommend her enough. She was sweet, patient, and great at directing everyone. She captured everything perfectly on our big day. Our wedding photos brought me to tears.

Personalizing Their Osage House Wedding Ceremony By Adding Their Own Twist To Traditional Details

We personalized our ceremony in a few ways. First, we had one of our groomsmen and one of our bridesmaids be flower bearers. It was hilarious. Second, we had our bridal party walk into the song “L-O-V-E” by Nat King Cole. The vibe was so good. And lastly, our ceremony exit song was “Celebrate!” by Kool & The Gang. Everyone was cheering, smiling, and crying. It was the best decision.

They Served Chick-fil-A Food At Their Osage House Wedding

We catered Chick-fil-A. It sounds crazy, but it was a huge crowd pleaser and saved us a lot of money. It was special to us. Our family and friends absolutely loved it!

Advice From The Newlyweds: For A Stress-Free Wedding, Hire A Planner

Invest in a wedding planner if you have room in your wedding budget. They will think of and care for all the little things you miss. We planned our wedding in only two months and pulled it off thanks to our amazing planner Taylor of Amanda Reed Weddings. My top three priorities were the dress, venue, and planner. Also, on your big day, don’t dwell on the small bumps in the road. Enjoy yourself!

Rainy British Columbia Backyard Wedding

August 2, 2022 | justine

Katrina and Christopher’s British Columbia backyard wedding truly embodied the old saying, “If there’s a will, there’s a way.” With the help of their planner Sweetheart Events and a trusted vendor team, the couple braved a pandemic, forest fires, and unpredictable stormy weather to celebrate their love in the most beautiful way possible.

Even with the strong winds and rain, the pair exchanged heartfelt vows surrounded by their closest loved ones on a grassy ledge overlooking the lake at the Quaaout Lodge. A gorgeous teepee-style tented reception followed in their parents’ backyard. Their talented vendors transformed the space with rustic chic furniture, a tablescape of florals in romantic shades of pink, and elegant gold accents. They finished off the celebration on a high note with an all-night dance party under a canopy of string lights.

It was a relaxed yet chic affair as the couple was dressed to the nines for their big day. The groom rocked a beige suit while the bride glowed in an ultra-romantic gown with floral appliques. If you’re dreaming of a backyard wedding of your own, scroll through these stunning images by Erin Fraser for great ideas to inspire you.

They Pulled Off A Memorable British Columbia Wedding Despite Challenges With The Help Of Trusted Vendors

After a very long year and a half of restrictions and lockdowns, the most important aspect of our wedding was creating an atmosphere where our guests felt like they could let their hair down and have a true celebration. Our vision came to life with the help of many incredibly talented vendors. There are many moments in the wedding planning process where you agonize over the details and question all your decisions. But if you stay true to your gut and work with an experienced team of professionals, you can trust it will all come together.

Their Wedding Venue Was Meaningful To Them

Chris’s parents purchased a beautiful home on Shuswap Lake six years ago. Since then, Chris and I have made countless trips up there and slowly convinced our friends to spend more and more of their vacation time that way. We have made countless memories on that lake—wake surfing in the sunshine, drinking sangria on the dock, toasting marshmallows around the campfire. And now, one of our best memories will be our stunning tented wedding reception with all our favorite people.

A Beautiful Ceremony Backdrop Handmade By The Groom

Chris made a trip to the lake two weeks before our wedding to harvest some birch wood and build the arbor for our ceremony. As a builder, he absolutely refused to rent one. What he created was stunning, a focal point for our ceremony, and something we will keep forever.

Hiring A Wedding Planner Was The Best Decision

You will never regret hiring an experienced wedding planner. Our wedding planner Stephanie of Sweetheart Events, was forced to contend with a laundry list of challenges to see us down the aisle—pandemic, forest fires, and unexpected rain storms. But she had plans A, B, C, and D for every possible scenario. This took an enormous amount of pressure off us and our families. Although we had a few last-minute pivots on the day, in our guests’ eyes, everything was deliberate, preplanned, and went perfectly smoothly. Even if you are lucky enough not to experience any major obstacles, there’s an overwhelming number of details and tasks to pull off the perfect day. Even if you are a type A personality like me, leave the binder at home and give up control to the professionals.

Photographer Erin Fraser Made Them Feel Relaxed And Confident

Erin was an absolute rock star on the day of our wedding. The conditions were not ideal for photography—wind, rain, and smoke from nearby forest fires—but she made us feel completely at ease regardless. I remember feeling a little worried about the state of my hair and dress in the rain, but at that moment, she was the hype girl I needed. There was never a moment when our bridal party or we felt posed. She is truly a master of candid photos. But most importantly, she took the time to get to know us and what moments were the most important for us to capture.

Their Backyard Reception Was The Most Memorable Part Of Their Celebration

The most memorable and one of the best moments was our grand entrance into our reception. We walked into the backyard overlooking the lake and saw the people we love together in this stunning reception space we had worked so hard to create. It was pure magic! We felt all the pressure and stress leave our bodies, seeing that everything had come together and everyone was enjoying themselves. After two long years of waiting, it was finally party time. The goal was for everyone from our grandparents to friends to walk away with champagne on their shoes and sore legs from all the dancing.
