This Romantic Wythe Hotel Wedding Was Overflowing With Unique Florals

July 27, 2023 | kailey

Going the traditional wedding route doesn’t mean your day will lack personality. And Sophie and Sam’s Wythe Hotel wedding is your proof. While they wanted to incorporate Jewish traditions and rituals, they were still determined to create a day that celebrated their uniqueness. And with fall florals, a stunning hotel venue, and the help of wedding planner Ashley Chamblin Events, they effortlessly achieved their vision.

The industrial venue underwent a complete transformation. From floor to ceiling, every inch of The Wythe Hotel was adorned with stunning floral arrangements courtesy of Buds of Brooklyn. The ceremony was held under an elaborate chuppah that beautifully contrasted the building’s brick exterior. As for the reception space, the charm was all thanks to the lush greenery garland framing the ceiling and the dainty blooms adding personality to the moody, candle-lit banquet tables. It’s safe to say the couple successfully created a delightful haven abundant with flowers.

Every detail of this Brooklyn wedding will make you fall in love with autumnal celebrations. From the fall color palette to the deep floral combinations and the venue’s NYC skyline views, all the floral-focused inspiration captured by Amy Sims Photography is just a scroll away.

Reminder: There’s no “Right Way” to Plan a Wedding

I’m hesitant to give advice because I feel like weddings often have too many cooks in the kitchen, but if I had any advice, it would be to try to make it your own, and you don’t have to do it all! People have a lot of opinions on how a wedding “should” be, but there’s no “right way,” the most important thing is for the day to feel like you! At the end of the day, you don’t need to make a logo AND do goody bags AND a welcome party AND write your own vows AND get that shot of everyone getting ready—doing it all can be expensive, time-consuming, and just hard. Make the choices that matter to you.

Giving Siblings a Special Role in Their Ceremony

We had our siblings officiate our ceremony, Sam’s sister and Sophie’s brother. I knew it would be meaningful, but there was a moment when I was standing under the chuppah with Sam and my siblings, and looking at each of our parents in the front row and felt surprisingly overwhelmed by the symbolism of it all—the joining of families, new generations starting families, etc. It’s not that I didn’t expect it to be special, but I didn’t expect how significant it would feel in the moment.

The Importance of Handwritten Wedding Vows

We chose to write our own vows, and it ended up being most of the ceremony. As cliche and icky as it sounds, it all felt very “us.” Our siblings officiating our ceremony added that extra personalization as well.

How to Have A European-Inspired Wedding Without Traveling

July 26, 2023 | justine

Keep reading to learn how to have a European-inspired wedding without traveling. Image by Theresa Kelly Photography.

Europe continues to be a popular choice for couples, and it’s easy to see why. The fascinating history, awe-inspiring architecture, breathtaking nature, and mouthwatering cuisine make it an irresistible destination. Each European country has its own captivating history and amazing architecture, but that unique old-world charm can be felt everywhere on the continent.

While many of us dream of getting married in a charming French castle or a picturesque Italian vineyard, the cost and practicality may pose challenges. However, there’s no need to worry! You can still plan a wedding that captures the essence of Europe without actually traveling there.

With a bit of creativity and attention to detail, you can bring Europe’s captivating culture, cherished traditions, and breathtaking beauty to your special day. Whether you choose to incorporate a touch of Tuscany, a hint of Parisian romance, or embrace another beloved European destination, your wedding can radiate the timeless charm and elegance you’ve always envisioned.

Here’s How to Have A European-Inspired Wedding Without Traveling:

It All Starts With The Right Venue

The venue sets the mood for your wedding, so look for a place with character, charm, and beautiful grounds that combine nature and architecture. Historic venues or lush gardens can be excellent options. Pay attention to details like opulent interiors, columns, crown molding, and vintage rugs to create an old-world atmosphere.

If you can’t find the perfect venue nearby, you can still create the enchantment of 16th-century Europe anywhere. Embrace nature’s beauty by selecting a location with plenty of natural light and decorating it with loose, organic floral arrangements. A lush field or manicured garden can replace a historic villa and be a beautiful backdrop.

Embrace the Outdoors

If the weather permits, make the most of the beautiful surroundings at your venue. European gardens often have water features, patios, terraces, courtyards, pathways, and lots of greenery. These spots are perfect for different parts of your wedding day and for capturing dreamy couple portraits.

Enjoy the natural beauty of these outdoor spaces, letting the European-inspired garden ambiance enhance your special day. From saying your vows among blooming flowers to sipping cocktails on a charming terrace or taking romantic walks along enchanting pathways, the outdoor elements will add a magical touch to your wedding celebration.

Choose A Timeless and Airy Color Palette

Color plays a crucial role in capturing the dreamy atmosphere of a European-inspired wedding. Blend relaxed and elegant styles seamlessly by embracing a range of shades that create a harmonious and layered look across your stationery, tablescape, flowers, and attire. Draw inspiration from beloved paintings and stunning landscapes, opting for natural colors that reflect the beauty of Europe. If your venue aligns with your theme, allow the building’s inherent color palette to influence your choice of flowers, opting for luxurious hues that complement and enhance the overall visual impact.

Go For Chic and Timeless European-Inspired Wedding Fashion

Achieving the effortlessly stylish European bridal look is easier than you think. If you choose an intricately detailed dress, pair it with loose, undone waves in your hair. If your dress is simple, opt for a chic updo. The key is to create a balanced look that radiates understated elegance. When it comes to the suit or tuxedo, consider tailored suits in classic colors like navy, charcoal, or gray, and pay attention to details such as cufflinks, pocket squares, and elegant ties or bowties.

Set the Scene with European-Inspired Garden Florals

Create a romantic atmosphere by starting with cascading bouquets filled with beautiful garden blooms. Match the inspiration with boutonnières and other floral arrangements. Design a romantic tablescape that includes charming overgrown florals. These blooms add texture and visual interest, bringing an enchanting and whimsical touch to the setting. When choosing arrangements, opt for loosely arranged flowers that effortlessly capture the natural beauty of European gardens.

Indulge in a Delightful Culinary Experience

Treat your guests to refreshing garden cocktails or sparkling prosecco during the magical golden hour, perfectly paired with scrumptious passed hors d’oeuvres. Create a feast for the eyes with a tempting charcuterie spread or grazing table. To elevate the luxury and excitement, make a grand statement with a champagne tower, setting the stage for an unforgettable party experience.

It’s All About the Details

Create a truly enchanting and cohesive vibe for your European-inspired wedding by focusing on the little details. Start with your invitation suite, using handmade paper and elegant calligraphy to add an old-world charm. Incorporate nature-inspired patterns or hand-drawn illustrations of flowers, leaves, fruits, or trees.

Enhance the overall ambiance by using flowing fabrics, vintage touches, stylish chairs, and gilded table settings. When discussing your cake design with your baker, consider a textured cake with delicate ruffles or hand-painted edible designs. These artistic creations will be both visually stunning and delicious.

Modern and Natural Waiheke Island Wedding

July 25, 2023 | riley

Ashton and Andrew had a simple wish for their wedding: to keep it small, cozy, and stress-free, with just their immediate family and closest friends. Although they lived in Australia, Andrew had a special connection to New Zealand, so it meant a lot to him to get married there. They didn’t have a specific plan for their wedding, but they wanted it to fit in with the surroundings and make the most of the island’s beauty. The result was a modern and natural Waiheke Island wedding, where art, architecture, and luxury came together perfectly.

Their ceremony venue had a unique sculptural structure with breathtaking views of the Hauraki Gulf. It didn’t need much decor, as it was already beautiful, but they added simple white and green flowers to enhance the space. This created a perfect mix of modern architecture and natural elements. After exchanging heartfelt vows, the celebration continued with a relaxed dinner at the pavilion. They enjoyed delicious food and wine while surrounded by the most incredible ocean views.

Placing their trust in the experts, the couple’s expectations were surpassed as their special day turned out even more remarkable than they had imagined. Fortunately, Wildfolk Photography was there to capture each precious detail, allowing us to relive the magic of their wedding day through these breathtaking images. Take a moment to scroll through and immerse yourself in every beautiful and heartfelt moment.

Ashton + Andrew

The Wedding:

Mawhiti, Waiheke Island

How Their Waiheke Island Wedding Came To Be

We live in Australia, but Andrew is from New Zealand, so it was quite meaningful for him to get married there. We first traveled together to Waiheke Island in March 2020 and fell in love with the place—the natural beauty, the fabulous food and wine, and the lovely people! Mawhiti was the first venue our planner showed us, and we couldn’t get it out of our minds! No other places compared. The location overlooking the ocean is amazing. The unique Gateway Sculpture where the ceremony was held isn’t like anything we had ever seen. The modern house was so spectacular and inviting we were blown away.

Creating An Intimate And Relaxed Wedding Vibe Was Top Priority

We aimed to have a small, intimate, relaxed wedding with our immediate family and closest friends. Our masseuse suggested the idea of having a wedding at a house with a chef to cater, so we have her to thank for this because it’s certainly not something we’d considered. Overall, we wanted a simple, modern, and carefree wedding free from expectation. In terms of style, we didn’t have a specific “vision” in mind, but we wanted it to be complementary to the environment to enhance the location’s natural beauty. We were happy to leave it to the professionals and encouraged them to express their creativity.

Wedding Advice: Focus on the Big Picture, Which is Your Marriage

A wedding can be whatever you want, so do what’s right for you, not what you think you have to do. Go with the vendors you like, connect with, embrace their creativity, and trust their judgment. Don’t get too bogged down in the details, the marriage is the main event, and your guests want to celebrate your special day with you!

Staying Present and Soaking in the Joy

Everything was perfect—phenomenal weather, beautiful native floral arrangements, fantastic music, delicious food, and a fabulous photographer who made us comfortable. Beyond the material elements of the day, we both managed to stay very present and “in the moment” so we could soak it all up and enjoy the day. We’re thrilled we managed to do this because the day went so fast, too fast!

Take a cue from Ashton and Andrew: Your wedding should be exactly how you want it to be. Don’t feel pressured to follow others’ expectations. Choose vendors you genuinely connect with and let their creativity shine. Don’t stress over small details, and less can definitely be more. Remember, the marriage itself is the most crucial part, and your loved ones just want to celebrate your special day with you!
