Congratulations, you’re getting married! With wedding planning in full swing, it’s easy to get caught up in the details. So remember to have fun too. Of course, the big day is the main event, but let’s not underestimate the pre-wedding festivities. After all, it’s your chance to let your hair down with your closest friends before tying the knot. While the traditional route involves separate bachelor and bachelorette parties, why not mix things up and consider hosting a joint celebration?

A joint bachelor bachelorette party is a fantastic way to bring both sides of the family and your besties together for an unforgettable celebration. Instead of focusing on one person, couples can have a joint party inspired by their shared interests and loved ones. So, let’s dive into everything you need to know to plan an amazing joint bachelor bachelorette party that’ll have everyone talking for years to come!

What is a Joint Bachelor Bachelorette Party?

A joint bachelor and bachelorette party is a celebration before a wedding where the couple and their wedding parties all get together. This party is a great way to celebrate and have fun with everyone before the wedding day. Rather than having separate parties, everyone can enjoy the happy occasion together in a happy and inclusive atmosphere. It’s a perfect choice if you and your partner’s friends all get along or if you’re just looking to help everyone get to know each other better.

Why Should You Consider A Joint Bachelor Bachelorette Party?

While having individual bachelor and bachelorette parties can be enjoyable, there are many advantages to choosing a combined celebration that includes both soon-to-be newlyweds. Here are just a few reasons why an increasing number of couples are opting for a joint bachelor bachelorette party:

You And Your Partner Can Spend More Time Together

A joint celebration allows you to stay close to each other and continue building your bond in the lead-up to the wedding. This means you can enjoy all the excitement and anticipation of your pre-wedding festivities while staying connected to your partner. Instead of saying goodbye to each other for separate parties, you can work as a team to create a fun and memorable event that reflects your personalities and relationship.

It Brings The Wedding Party Closer Together

If you and your partner don’t share mutual friends, a joint celebration allows your wedding parties to get to know each other and make new connections. This way, everyone can celebrate together, and nobody feels left out. When your wedding day arrives, your guests will feel like your wedding party has been lifelong friends all along.

It Can Be A More Cost-Effective Option

A joint bachelor bachelorette party is a smart way to save money for both your and your partner’s wedding party. Combining activities like hotel room bookings, transportation, and group rates for various events can help everyone cut costs. You don’t have to plan your party solely based on group rates, but it’s a good idea to keep in mind if you want more money to spend on other wedding expenses or on the honeymoon.

Who Should Take Charge Of The Planning?

Traditional roles suggest that the best man leads the bachelor party planning, and the maid or matron of honor leads the bachelorette party planning. However, in a combined situation, the best man and maid of honor can work together to plan the party, the couple themselves can take charge, or someone in the group who loves organizing trips can take on the task. Since the planning tasks double with a bigger group, hiring a professional party planner might be a good option to avoid stress and ensure a successful celebration.

Tips For Hosting A Joint Bachelor Bachelorette Party

Create The Guest List

When creating the guest list, you’ll likely want to include  your wedding parties and other close friends or family. Remember that the more people you add to the guest list, the more difficult it will be to book activities and accommodations. It’s better to save the big party for the wedding reception and keep the joint party more intimate.

Pick Your Location And Date

The destination and date are critical factors to consider. Choose a location that offers something for everyone and select a date that maximizes attendance and affordability. Consider the interests and budget of the group, peak travel seasons, local events and festivals, and weather conditions. By being mindful of these factors, you can plan a memorable and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

Book Your Accommodations And Transportation

Choosing accommodations that can comfortably fit everyone in the group is essential. Consider renting a large vacation home or booking several hotel rooms near each other to make it easier for everyone to spend time together.

When it comes to transportation, choose a destination with a major airport to make it easier for attendees from different parts of the country to find flights that work with their schedules. Additionally, consider a transportation service—such as a limousine or party bus—to bring everyone from the airport to the lodging and any planned activities.

Plan The Itinerary

It’s important to remember that not all activities need to be done together. It’s a good idea to split the groups occasionally to accommodate different interests. For example, schedule a round of golf and a spa day for the same day. You can then come together for dinner or another activity once you’re finished.  It’s best to keep the itinerary flexible, allowing time to rest and recover if needed.

Joint Bachelor Bachelorette Party Ideas

Backyard Dinner Party

Hosting a backyard dinner party is a great way to bring everyone together in a relaxed setting. Bonus points if there’s a pool. You can either hire a personal chef or prepare the food yourself. Another option is to assign different courses to small groups of friends, giving everyone a chance to contribute. This ensures that everyone feels included and has an opportunity to participate. A more casual backyard barbecue is also an excellent option for mingling while enjoying yard games or grilling together.

A Day At The Beach

A beach day is another excellent option for a joint celebration. Bring plenty of sunscreen, towels, and beach games to entertain everyone. You can also rent chairs and umbrellas or bring your own. Pack a cooler with plenty of drinks and snacks to keep everyone fueled throughout the day. Consider organizing beach games like volleyball or frisbee or even renting paddle boards or jet skis for some more adventurous fun. End the day with a bonfire on the beach for a memorable evening.

Party Bus Or Boat Tour

Renting a party bus or shuttle for a day trip is a fun way to get everyone together and make lasting memories. The transportation can be the main activity or a way to get to a brewery tour, tubing, or bar hopping. The best part? You don’t have to worry about a designated driver! Renting a party boat is also an option for a water-based experience. This is also a chance to test your wedding transportation if you’re hiring the same provider.

Host A Tasting

You can visit a winery, brewery, or distillery to tour their facilities, learn more about the products, and, most importantly, drink your chosen beverage. Some tastings also offer mixology sessions, an excellent way to finalize your signature cocktail. Use this experience to brainstorm your wedding day drink or reception bar selection. Non-drinkers can join in on the fun with oysters, ice cream, cheese, and coffee tastings. Check out local or travel-worthy places that offer tastings that fit you and your party.

Have Separate Activities And Meet Up Later

Consider hosting a combined weekend celebration that balances separate and joint activities. The two groups can have their own experiences for most of the trip, then come together for a big party on the final evening. If everyone would rather have their separate nights out, the entire group can meet up the next day for brunch and share stories from their individual adventures the previous night. There are endless possibilities that work for everyone.

How To Plan An Unforgettable Post Elopement Party

May 1, 2023 | riley

Elopements have become the norm these days, and it doesn’t look like that’s going to change anytime soon. While many couples choose to elope with just the two of them, some opt to throw a post-elopement party to celebrate being newlyweds with friends and family. Whether it’s a grand affair full of food and dancing or a lowkey backyard brunch, there’s no better way to include your loved ones after saying “I do.”

What Is A Post Elopement Party

You may be wondering, “what is a post elopement party, exactly?” It may look different to everyone, but generally, it’s a way to celebrate tying the knot with those who could not attend the elopement. It’s an opportunity to tell your story of the day as well as share your photos and videos from the day.

The party can be as simple or as complex as you want, and there is no set timeline for the event. If you want to have it a day after your wedding, or you want to celebrate a year later on your anniversary, the choice is yours.

Why Have A Post Elopement Party?

Much like an elopement, the choice to have a post elopement party is entirely up to you. There are a whole host of reasons to throw a party for your loved ones to attend. These are some of the most popular reasons couples decide to throw one of these parties:

  • You’re having a destination elopement
  • You don’t want the stress or financial burden of a full-blown wedding or reception
  • Your adventure elopement was too difficult to attend for some
  • You’re not quite finished celebrating your love

Tips For Planning A Post Elopement Party

Whatever the reason, there are a couple of things to keep in mind when planning an elopement reception. Although they’re typically smaller than regular wedding receptions, there are a few tips that will make planning that much easier.

1. Announce Your Elopement Beforehand

Rather than send out save-the-dates, consider sending out elopement announcements. If you announce that you already eloped by sending an elopement party invitation, your guests may feel excluded. Avoid hurting the feelings of your party guests by ensuring they find out from you instead of hearing it from someone else or seeing it online.

Shop elopement announcements: Burnt Orange Bohemian Elopement Inspiration; Simple Modern Elopement Announcement; We Tied The Knot Minimalist Elopement Card; Love Is Patient But We Couldn’t Wait Announcement Card

2. Send Out Elopement Party Invites

Although elopements are pretty popular these days, they’re still not nearly as popular as traditional weddings. Because of this, if your guests receive an elopement party invitation–especially without an elopement announcement–they may confuse it for a regular wedding invitation. You don’t want to offend anyone by having them assume they were only invited to the after-party.

On the invites, use language such as “You are invited to celebrate the marriage of…” or “We got married. Come celebrate with us!” This will clear up any uncertainty and set guest expectations before the party. You can also include a small message about when you eloped–though this isn’t necessary if you sent out elopement announcements. Lovebird redefines elegant wedding communication, making it easy to communicate with your guests, however you choose to celebrate.

If you’re looking to save money, combine your announcements and your party invites. Remember, just ensure that the language makes it clear that you already tied the knot and now is the time to party!

3. Pick A Date

Though this may seem like a small detail, choosing a date will help dictate how you announce the party and how soon you need to do so. For example, if you want to celebrate immediately after you elope, you’re going to want to send out invites in advance to make sure that your guests can attend.

If you want to wait a bit so that you’ll have photos, videos, and extra time to plan, you may feel a little less rushed. Just remember that there is no right or wrong length of time between the elopement and celebration–it’s entirely up to you.

4. Decide Where You Want To Host It

One of the best parts about hosting a post elopement party is that you can decide how big you want to make it. Because it isn’t a traditional wedding reception, there is no expectation of having a grand sit-down dinner (unless you want to).

You can have a casual backyard BBQ, an Airbnb fiesta, a garden party, or rent a room at your favorite restaurant for a family-style meal. No matter what you choose, having a post elopement party gives you the ultimate freedom when booking a venue.

5. Don’t Expect Gifts

Many couples stress when it comes to putting together a registry and receiving gifts after eloping. Rather than expect gifts and leave your guests in a predicament, you can include a note on your invites that says something along the lines of, “Gifts are not necessary. However, if you do feel so inclined to contribute to our future, here’s how.” This can include where you’ve registered or a note about cash donations.

Doing so will help you avoid questions about it down the line, plus you take the pressure off of the guests.

6. Consider Entertainment

Depending on the size of your party, you may want to consider entertainment options. Now, this doesn’t mean that you need to hire a DJ or live musician–but if you want to, go for it. This could be anything from including speeches, showing a video presentation from your elopement, reenacting your first dance, playing games, etc. You’re throwing a party, after all.

7. You Can Still Have A Ceremony

This may seem a little redundant since you’re already married. However, if you eloped because your family and friends couldn’t attend and you want to include them after the fact, why not have a second ceremony? This gives them the chance to recite poems or other readings, incorporate family traditions you may have missed out on, and more.

8. Wear What You Want

There’s no better excuse to don your wedding attire for a second time than an elopement party. If your celebration is going to be a bit more laid back and you don’t feel comfortable wearing your gown or suit a second time, you can opt for a more casual white dress or a simple button-up and slacks combination.

Post Elopement Party Ideas

Know that you want to have a party, but not sure just exactly what kind of party you want to throw? Consider one of the following ideas:

  • Traditional wedding-style reception
  • Backyard BBQ
  • Potluck
  • Brunch
  • Airbnb celebration
  • Glamping
  • Rent a private room in your favorite restaurant
  • Take a day trip to your favorite city

This Lussh Wedding Is Jam Packed With Personal Details

When Emma and Damien began planning their big day, they were determined to infuse it with their shared passions and personalities. They drew inspiration from their love for rocketry, fly fishing, rock climbing, and even their favorite kids’ show, Bluey, to create a wedding that was truly out of this world. The result? An ultra-personal Lussh wedding that was a heartfelt celebration of their love and everything that held special meaning to them.

With its convenient location and stunning rock wall that aligned with their love for rock climbing, The Lussh was the perfect wedding venue for them. They further enhanced the romantic setting with lush floral pillars for their ceremony. But their creativity and personalization didn’t stop there. Their reception featured timeless decor, twinkling lights, and a rocket-themed photo booth. But the highlight of the night was their astronaut-topped wedding cake and a choreographed first dance that kept the energy high!

If you’ve ever wondered how to incorporate your unique personality and interests into every aspect of your celebration to create a cohesive and elegant theme, then this wedding is a must-see. The breathtaking photos captured by Van Middleton truly embody the essence of their love story and the special day they crafted.

The Couple:

Emma and Damien

The Wedding:

The Lussh, Hubert St, Woolloongabba, Australia

The Inspiration Behind Their Ultra-Personal Lussh Wedding

Our inspiration came from all the things we love! We didn’t stick to any one theme. We had everything in there that represented each of us. From my side, it was rocketry and aerospace-related themes with a bit of classic wedding thrown in. From Damien’s side, it was fly fishing and his creative figurine painting. For both of us, it was our love of the Mandalorian, rock climbing, and that great kids’ show, Bluey (introduced to us by my brother and his kids!). The color palette we chose was white, silver, and blue.

Choosing The Lussh Because of Its Location And Epic Rock Wall

We knew we wanted to have the wedding in the city so that it would be a nice central place for everyone to come to. Although we did have people from all over—Hong Kong, New York, Hervey Bay, Goondiwindi, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth. We fell in love with The Lussh because of the amazing rock wall in the ceremony area–it completely aligned with our passion for rock climbing. Not to mention it was a stunning backdrop. We wore our climbing shoes for our photos climbing the wall! The whole venue is gorgeous, and it had plenty of room for all the kids to play, for people to go outside and chat, and of course, plenty of areas to eat, drink, and dance the night away.

Using Paper Planes With Notes From Loved Ones Instead Of Confetti After Their Lussh Wedding Ceremony

Instead of confetti or dried rose petals to throw as we walked down the aisle at the end, we had everyone write some short, cute notes on colored paper and fold them into paper airplanes and throw them instead. While we were signing our marriage certificate, we had “I Believe I Can Fly” playing, and that is when everyone got their planes ready.

Personalizing Their Lussh Wedding Ceremony With Music And Including Their Loved Ones

We had all the kids from both sides of the family walk down the aisle first, blowing bubbles and dancing to the Bluey theme song. Followed by Damien and his party to Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop The Feeling.” Then finally, it was my turn, and I walked down the aisle to a metal version of “Here Comes the Bride” by the Blue Claw Philharmonic. It was epic! A real build-up that still chokes me up every time I listen to it. My brother, Peter, was my man of honor and walked with me. Halfway down the aisle, we broke into some air guitar and a secret handshake that was all good fun. Damien’s sister was his best woman.

Handmade Astronaut Wedding Toppers And A Rocket-Themed Photo Booth

Damien painted our wedding toppers—two little astronauts. He had them 3D printed and then created some beautiful effects. Our cat Ella, him, and I were standing on a rocket viewing platform. Damien also made and painted the platform. Damien’s mum created our rocket photo booth from scratch. We also had a smoke machine to simulate rocket exhaust and lots of fun props and things for people to use.

Blasting Into Marriage With An Interactive Rocket Themed Wedding Cake

We had a rocket wedding cake and had the rocket equation printed on it. We used dry ice and fairy lights to create the illusion of hot rocket exhaust as the rocket took off. The Apollo 11 launch footage audio played with the whole countdown and blast-off! As the sounds of the blast were happening, that is when we cut the cake and “blasted into our marriage.”

Giving Their Guests Handmade Fly Fishing-Themed Wedding Favors

For our wedding favors, Damien tied a fly fishing fly for every guest, using synthetic materials for our vegan and vegetarian guests. We created cards to which we attached the fly, along with the details of our wedding and our thanks to our guests. On the back of each card was a small magnet and a description of the particular fly, including its history, how Damien likes to use it, and what he tries to catch with it. They took a long time to make, but it was a nice touch, and our guests really appreciated them.
