Uniquely Vintage Green Prairie Sod Farms Wedding

December 13, 2022 | justine

Holly and John have always wanted a wedding showcasing classic traditions, like a champagne tower, a multi-tiered piped cake, and a formal church service. But they also loved the idea of adding their own personal spin to the festivities. With that in mind, they set out to create a Green Prairie Sod Farms wedding loaded with vintage charm, meaningful touches, and fun twists on a rustic farm celebration.

Choosing to host their wedding at venues that are special to them, they started their special day with a beautiful ceremony at the Holy Trinity Oxford. After they said their “I dos,” they headed to the farm for a tented waterfront reception. It was a vintage countryside soiree complete with a lemon stand, a carnival-style popcorn machine, and a charcuterie spread set up on two old Jeep Willys.

With lots of help from their loved ones, the pair poured a lot of love into the look and feel of their big day, and it all came together beautifully! If you love a good DIY project, you’ve come to the right wedding. So scroll through these gorgeous photos captured by Junebug member Frankie Isabel for inspiration on how to pull off a memorable farm celebration.

The Inspiration Behind Their Green Prairie Sod Farms Wedding

Our wedding was greatly inspired by our chosen locations and our desire to show our passion for art, family, and creativity. Being raised on classic 1990s wedding movies like Father of the Bride, My Best Friend’s Wedding, and even The Parent Trap, it was always my dream to have a “classic” wedding with all the wonderfully traditional touches like a champagne toast, multi-tiered piped cake, and formal church service. The reception was held on the farm where I grew up. It was important to us that our wedding felt formal, although the reception was held outdoors. So we leaned into it and added vintage elements, such as the cocktail hour charcuterie boards displayed in the bed of two vintage Jeep Willys my grandfather had rebuilt. We had a lemon shake-up stand and kettle corn in adorable boxes set up in a vintage popcorn machine. We hung a 1940’s quilt as the backdrop to our champagne tower. The small details really helped the day feel unique and special.

The Sweet Way They Included Their Daughter In Their Green Prairie Sod Farms Wedding

As you can imagine, there were so many incredible moments on our wedding day. One of the most memorable moments was giving our two-year-old daughter a locket to commemorate the day. She was so sweet and excited to have a special gift of her own. It’s hard to describe how precious those moments with your child can be.

Honoring The Legacy Of A Loved One Through Their Getaway Car

An amazing moment of the day was when we hopped in our getaway car, another restored vintage Jeep Willy of my grandfather’s, who passed away recently. It was important to honor his legacy because he’s famous in the vintage Jeep world. Driving away from our onlooking guests as they cheered was so wonderful. It was the first time I could see their faces looking back at us. The ding-ding-ding sound of the tin cans rumbling on the bricks as we drove through uptown Oxford is a joyful sound I will never forget.

Bringing Their Loved Ones Together Through DIY Wedding Projects

I am so proud of how well my parents, mom’s sister, cousin, our family, and our friends came together to create the most stunning reception. Many aspects of the wedding were DIY, and everything was absolutely gorgeous. We made the floral arrangements with the help of my cousin, who owns a flower farm. Unfortunately, just weeks before our wedding, her fields were wiped out by a storm, but we were able to get locally grown flowers from a neighboring farm. My cousin, grandmother, and aunt created gorgeous centerpieces in vintage vessels.

Relying On Their Parents For Wedding Advice

At the beginning of our wedding planning journey, we were open to receiving ideas from my parents. My parents also created a gorgeous wedding for my sister, so they had many great ideas for making the day extra special. For example, my mom had the idea to serve lemon-shake ups which was a huge hit. This led to my idea of also serving kettle corn, which made my dad pull out the vintage popcorn maker that belonged to my grandparents.

Supporting Friends’ Small Businesses During Their Green Prairie Sod Farms Wedding

Our place settings were by a wonderful family friend who recently started her own business, A Proper Table. She assembled china place settings for each of our guests. Our cake topper was made by an artist and friend, Logan Reynolds, and has become a cherished souvenir. Our videographer is a friend who spent the weekend being my hype girl and biggest fan. All the vendors were fabulous at what they did—the bartenders, waitstaff, caterer, baker, and rental company.

Vibrant Mexico City Destination Wedding

December 12, 2022 | justine

The vibrant city of Mexico instantly captured the hearts of Amanda and Taylor during their first trip together. So much so that their vacation turned into an impromptu wedding scouting trip. Drawing inspiration from the city’s beauty, they wanted their love for the culture and each other to be reflected in the details of their celebration. And they made their dream Mexico City destination wedding dream come true in a weekend-long affair on a gorgeous urban garden estate with their closest loved ones.

As she walked down the aisle, Amanda was a vision in her silk dress with statement sleeves, while Taylor was dashing in a classic tux. The two exchanged vows at their gorgeous patio ceremony, surrounded by lush fresh greenery. The reception that followed in the main esplanade was definitely a sight to see. Colorful cascading blooms filled the tables, and a dramatic foliage installation further elevated their marquee celebration.

This wedding showcases the city’s modern and old-world vibe, and Viviana Cardona captured the magic beautifully! If you and your partner are dreaming of a getaway celebration surrounded by incredible vintage architecture and green spaces in the middle of a bustling city, keep scrolling to see more. You will surely fall in love with Mexico City (just like this couple) and all that it has to offer.

The Moment They Decided That A Mexico City Destination Wedding Was The Right One For Them

I had previously traveled to Mexico City with my sister and immediately felt enamored with the place. When we got engaged, we considered locations close to home in Houston, Texas, but nothing captured our vision. We had already planned a trip to Mexico City, and it dawned on me that it would be the perfect place to get married. I quickly turned our leisure vacation into a wedding scouting trip! From there, Mexico City itself became the inspiration for much of our wedding aesthetic. While neither of us is Mexican, we wanted to respect the traditions and styles of Mexico City. This was easy to do because much of Mexico City’s vibe was synonymous with what we already liked. Taylor and I love vibrant colors, flavorful food, big parties, and giving guests an unforgettable experience, which really motivated much of our planning process.

Why They Chose To Host Their Big Day At Casa Xipe

Our wedding planners did a great job presenting us with many beautiful venues as potential options for our wedding day. Ultimately, when we first toured Casa Xipe, we knew this was our venue. We instantly gravitated towards the natural feel and open concept of the space. We knew that this would be a beautiful space on its own that would not require much additional decoration.

How Their Mexico City Destination Wedding Weekend Unfolded

Since it was a destination wedding, we wanted to create a memorable weekend experience for our family and friends. For this reason, we purposely had events in many different areas of Mexico City. This way, our guests can step outside of their comfort zone and explore the places we fell in love with. We chose to have multiple events beginning with a rehearsal dinner and welcome party on Thursday and ending with the wedding itself on Saturday. This gave our 130 guests plenty of time to get to know each other, so everyone felt like one huge family at the reception. We had several guests come up to us and say that it was the best wedding they had ever attended. And that’s because of the time everyone had to cultivate relationships with other guests.

Wedding Planning Advice From The Newlyweds

First and foremost, it is so important to choose a wedding planner that you are compatible with. I can’t stress that piece of advice enough. You spend a lot of time with your planner, so you have to feel comfortable that they are capturing your vision. My next piece of advice is to do you. Traditions guide the wedding planning process, but if you are an unconventional bride, stick to that. It’s a day for you and your partner, and I am happy to say that we planned our wedding weekend with our authentic selves as the focus.

8 Wedding Trends For 2023

December 11, 2022 | riley

And just like that, 2022 is over. After years of postponing weddings, couples all over the world were ready to party and celebrate with their loved ones–which they did in style. We’ve seen a handful of wedding trends emerge, and we don’t foresee them going anywhere next year. In fact, we think they’re going to be hotter than ever. From embroidered wedding attire to mismatched printed bridesmaid dresses and everything in between, we’re rounding up some of our favorite wedding trends for 2023.

Wedding Trends For 2023

Embroidered Gloves

There’s nothing more elegant than a pair of bridal gloves. But brides are taking it up a notch and embroidering them. Whether you include your new last name, your and your significant other’s initials, or your wedding date, adding this touch to your accessories is an easy way to personalize your look and get in on one of 2023’s hottest trends.

Statement Veils

Speaking of accessories, veils became one of the most popular wedding additions this past year, and the traditional look is being elevated to make it a little more modern. From sentimental embroidery (like the gloves) to colorful florals perfect for a garden wedding, wearing a statement veil is sure to help you stand out on your wedding day–and make for some pretty epic photos, too.

Non-Traditional Guest Books

While there’s nothing wrong with using a traditional guest book, why not have your guests sign something you can use as a decor piece? Say a guitar? Or a record? Or maybe you’d rather have audio recordings of your guests with the help of companies like After The Tone. No matter what you choose, non-traditional guest books are a trend that is here to stay.

Moissanite Engagement Rings

While this one isn’t technically wedding related, it does pertain to the wedding world. The days of coughing up thousands of dollars are gone. More couples are choosing to save money and help the environment by choosing ethically sourced moissanite engagement rings. And the best part is that moissanite and diamonds are so similar. Chances are, no one will even be able to tell the difference.

Flowers Galore

Florals have officially become the star of the show at weddings (and we can see why). The small but mighty decor piece can completely transform a venue instantly, which is why more couples are allocating more money to their floral budget to create over-the-top arrangements. From the backdrop to the reception centerpieces, we’re betting that 2023 weddings will be covered in flowers from floor to ceiling.

Bold Color Palettes

There’s no need to shy away from color when it comes to your big day. This past year, we saw more newlyweds embrace the idea of colors–especially pastels–and we believe that this trend is going to continue on into the new year. Only this time, it’s going to be brighter, louder, and bolder.

Mixed Print Bridesmaid Dresses

Mismatched bridesmaid dresses have been a trend for a few years now, but we’re seeing more wedding parties become even more lax when it comes to the dress code. Think mismatched prints and colors such as florals, polka dots, etc. The key to keeping this look cohesive is to give everyone a color family to include in their dresses.

Mixed Gender Wedding Parties

Just because your best friend is of the opposite sex doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be able to include them in your wedding party. Ditch the idea of traditional bridesmaids and groomsmen and embrace including anyone you feel like in your wedding party. It’s your special day, after all, and you deserve to have your loved ones standing up there next to you.

Now that you’re ready to incorporate some of these 2023 wedding trends into your big day, it’s time to dive deep into the wedding planning world. We understand that it can seem like a big undertaking. Our job at Junebug is to make it as easy as possible, which is why we’ve put together a wedding planning guide with everything you need to know to make your dream day come to life.
