This Roundwood House Wedding Will Have You Ready To Go Across The Pond For Your Big Day

April 24, 2023 | justine

Karly and Ian wanted their special day to be like a fabulous dinner party, exuding a cozy and old-worldly ambiance. And with the help of their trusted vendor team, their celebration in Ireland was exactly how they envisioned it to be. Set in an early Georgian country house in the middle of a vast estate, they brought to life a dreamy Roundwood House wedding using a rich color palette, spectacular floral arrangements, and personal touches.

The firewood storage shed became a one-of-a-kind location for their ceremony, as they transformed the rustic stone structure into a romantic and enchanting setting for their private vows. With ethereal cloud-like pillars of blooming flowers and delicate dried foliage, the scene was straight out of a fairytale. For the reception that followed at the main house, they indulged in a wine-and-dine experience at a long table adorned with flickering candles, creating a warm and intimate ambiance.

If you’ve always dreamt of a magical and intimate wedding with your loved ones, you’re in for a treat! Just scroll down to check out this incredible Roundwood House wedding captured by the talented Pawel Bebenca. You’ll be amazed by all the beautiful details and special moments that unfolded on this special day.

The Couple:

Karly and Ian

The Wedding:

Roundwood House, Mountrath Co. Laois, Ireland

How The Bride Landed On Her Dream Dress

As a bride, I consider myself incredibly lucky. My best friend owns Lady Sycamore Bridal, a boutique in Rhode Island. I had the privilege of trying on dresses there multiple times. I tried on almost all of her dresses, kept coming back to one. While my friend carries many beautiful gowns, the decision was easy. I knew it was the one from the very first time I tried it on with my mom, mother-in-law, sister, and friend Molly. I wanted something classic yet edgy, and the accessories fell into place after that.

How Their Roundwood House Wedding Came To Be

When we first started talking with our planner, we told her we were looking for something that felt like a fabulous dinner party but happened to be where we got married. The venue was a priority for us, as most of our guests (including ourselves) had never been to Ireland before. We wanted a place that was old-worldly yet casual and cozy. With a lot of character that wouldn’t require excessive decor, just flowers and candles. Ideally, we also wanted a place where we could stay for the weekend. Roundwood House was the perfect fit. We had our ceremony in the most beautiful barn, cocktail hour in the main house, and dinner in the library.

Roundwood House Felt Like Home Away From Home

As a creative myself, our planner understood that our wedding couldn’t be just another photo shoot. She kept me grounded but also knew when to push the boundaries. Roundwood House was perfect—the furniture, architecture, and grounds felt like a cozy, everyday home. The hospitality from Hannah, Paddy, and their staff was exceptional. The Whileaways, our band, provided the perfect acoustic concert for our small wedding. It was a special and memorable experience for our 13 guests and us.

Exchanging Private Vows After Their Roundwood House Wedding Ceremony

One moment that was particularly special was when we exchanged vows, just the two of us, after the ceremony. There was no first look, as we had already legally married in the states. Our friend performed the ceremony, celebrated with our guests, and then Ian and I sat under our floral arch, surrounded by candles, and read our vows. The nerves were gone, and it was just us. So happy to be where we were, experiencing the day we had been dreaming about. Our photographer captured the moment, resulting in some of our favorite pictures.

Advice From The Newlyweds: You Won’t Regret Hiring A Wedding Planner

Consider hiring a wedding planner for both peace of mind and budget benefits (honestly, a planner likely saved us money in the long run). We were fortunate to find Love and Gatherings, who understood our style, kept us organized, and made planning a wedding from another country feasible.

Creating An Incredible Experience For Their Guests

We take immense pride in the fact that every single guest had an amazing time at our wedding. Our friends and family are still talking about it! They’re raving about the hospitality at Roundwood House, the delicious Smoked Trout Timbale with avocado and grapefruit, our incredibly talented band, The Whileaways, who learned .38 Special’s “Caught Up in You” for my aisle walk, the hot spiked cider and blankets for the ceremony, and the stunning florals. For many, it was their first time in Ireland. And they were able to make it a real adventure, exploring the country for the entire week.

Putting Together Local Welcome Bags With The Help Of Their Planner

Our planner was instrumental in coordinating the wedding favors. We provided custom tote bags filled with gifts from the Irish Design Shop in Dublin, including wooly socks, lip balm, scented candles, and soap—all made by local Irish makers and designers. After the wedding, we even stopped by the shop and stocked up on more candles because they smelled so good!

Incorporate Your Furry Friends In Your Engagement Announcement

Who says your pets can’t be a part of your engagement announcement? Including your beloved furry friends is not only adorable, but it adds a personal touch that showcases your love for your pets and each other. You can have a professional photo shoot with your pets, where they can wear cute signs and bandanas or even carry a “Will You Marry Us?” sign.

If you prefer a more casual approach, you can capture candid shots of you and your partner snuggling up with your pets or playing in the park together. It’s a creative and heartwarming way to share your love and excitement with your furry companions, who are undoubtedly an important part of your lives.

Share A Personalized Engagement Announcement Video

Video announcements have become a distinct way to share your engagement news with your loved ones. You have the opportunity to craft a one-of-a-kind engagement video that showcases your individual love story, featuring photos, videos, and even interviews with your family and friends. Incorporate your favorite music, heartfelt messages, and cherished moments from your relationship to make it truly unforgettable.

You can share the video on social media, send it as a save-the-date, or keep it private and share it only with your closest friends and family. You can also work with a videographer to get more creative with the format, such as a stop-motion animation, a short film, or a vlog-style video. It’s a fun and meaningful way to share your joy and excitement while also giving your loved ones a glimpse into your love story in a unique and memorable way.

Engagement Mug Selfie

Raise a glass to your engagement with a creative and fun mug selfie! Incorporating your engagement ring or cutesy messages on mugs can add an extra touch of creativity to your announcement. You can customize mugs with statements like “Sip, Sip, Hooray! We’re Engaged!” or “Future Mr. & Mrs.” for a playful and unique photo.

Capture the moment by posing with your mugs in hand, showcasing your excitement and love for each other. It’s a cute and budget-friendly way to announce your engagement with a touch of humor and creativity. Making your friends and family smile as they sip along in your joyous celebration.

Host A Surprise Engagement Party

Imagine surprising your loved ones with the news of your engagement at what they think is a regular dinner party! It’s a unique and unexpected way to celebrate your love with your closest family and friends. Even if distance is a challenge, a virtual gathering can still bring loved ones from afar together. To make it extra special, consider incorporating a themed party concept. And infusing the theme into decorations, food, and attire for a cohesive and unforgettable experience.

You can also provide themed party favors that match the theme. Such as custom-made cookies, personalized wine glasses, or custom-printed tote bags with the theme design. These engagement party favors add to the overall ambiance of the event and serve as cherished mementos for your guests.
