This Constellation-Inspired Kelowna Wedding is Positively Magical

April 30, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Indian and Western cultures come together in a beautiful way in this backyard Kelowna wedding! Jen and Dhawal payed special tribute to the groom’s Indian heritage before the ceremony with a traditional Baraat procession, Varmala (garland exchange), and a walk around the sacred fire. The ceremony then continued with slight twists on Western wedding traditions, including a mad-lib style vow exchange! With the help of  Top Knot Events, the couple created a constellation theme in shades of blue and metallics because of the stars’ significance to their dating journey, as well as to Indian culture. We love how photographer Mathias Fast captured every detail of this sweet couple’s special day, especially the late-night photo in the orchard with the night sky sparkling above them.

The Couple:

Jen and Dhawal

The Wedding:

Private family orchard, Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada

As we started planning, we knew we wanted to include elements from both our traditions – Western and Indian weddings – but also to make sure the elements we chose to include in our day actually meant something to us rather than just including for the sake of tradition. That’s how we ended up with a baraat, “mad-lib” vows, a night sky painted dance floor, the Jurassic Park theme song, a boler bar, and tacos! It turned out to be such a beautiful and eclectic day that felt very us from start to finish.

We had Jen’s brother-in-law, Neil, act as our officiant and he was incredible! He opened with a beautiful speech about our two stories, how we were born thousands of miles apart and the decisions that we made to ultimately end up in the same place, at the same time to meet, fall in love, and make it to this day. It was incredibly special and meaningful and really captured exactly what we wanted in a ceremony. In the craziness of the day, we forgot to properly thank him in our speeches, so – THANK YOU, NEIL!

We also had “mad lib” vows – we wrote the start of 7 sentences to say to each other together (to mirror the 7 steps of the Hindu ceremony) and then each finished them separately to read aloud to each other. They were very meaningful, funny, and us – and in several instances, we ended up saying the same thing to each other!

Our advice it to pick a couple days before your actual wedding and make that your “hard stop” for tasks and errands as much as possible. After that, treat yourself as a guest at your wedding and soak it all in – be present. It’s not very often you get to surround yourself with all of your favorite people in the world!

Our theme was constellations and the night sky for many reasons. We first told each other we loved each other under the night sky, and constellations also have a lot of significance in Indian culture. Another reason (which made it into our vows) is that we remind each other often that there are 100 billion stars in the milky way galaxy when we need to remember what is really important.

We DIY’ed so many things! Our dance floor was plywood that we painted navy and then painted stars and the milky way on. We made our mandap (the wedding altar) from wood from Jen’s family’s apple orchard (where the wedding took place). Jen also hand-painted and wrote all of the place cards and table signs.

One of our most memorable moments was sneaking away after dinner to take the spectacular star photo with us standing in the orchard row and the night sky above us. The day goes by so fast and we both really loved taking a moment to be with each other with the sound of our friends and family celebrating in the background to take a breath, look at the stars, and remember what the day was about.

This Chic Wedding Transformed a Hollywood Director’s Home into a Wedding Venue

April 14, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

When you’re getting married in Hollywood, California, is there any place more idyllic than an industry director’s stately mansion? After seeing these photos of Sam and Kyle’s wedding, we certainly don’t think so! From the courtyard ceremony and reception to all the secluded nooks that were perfect for romantic portraits, we’re in love with this unique space that served not only as the couple’s wedding venue but also as the place they first met. In keeping with their easy-going personalities, they used minimal décor in the form of Standard Wax candles and mini potted succulents, which then became favors for the guests. The bride also had paper flowers made from the couple’s favorite comic incorporated into her bouquet. Photographer Kym Ventola captured every detail of this sophisticated wedding beautifully!

The Couple:

Sam and Kyle

The Wedding:

Private Residence, Los Angeles, California

We were incredibly lucky to get married in this house. We met while Sam was working for a director and Kyle was working for a producer, and by some miracle the director let us get married at his house. It was really special and so incredibly generous. The house has sentimental meaning to us — it’s the actual place we met before starting to date.

Both of us are minimalists. And the venue was so perfect on its own, it was pretty easy to keep it pared-down. We kept decorations to a minimum and the few things we did bring in were natural wood, simple colors, a few potted succulents, and things that accompanied the exiting environment.

We like simple and functional. Sam had this idea to use the candle and succulent centerpieces as wedding favors and use matchboxes as place cards. The goal was for it to be beautiful on the day, and then have everyone take home a piece of the night. Our favorite candles are from Standard Wax, who specialize in thoughtfully designed ceramic containers specifically made to be reused long after the candle burns down. Our centerpieces were a mixture of their soy candles and succulents planted in reused or empty vessels. The guests loved it, there wasn’t anything left on the tables at the end of the night. This also meant we didn’t have to spend money on flower decorations. Success!

Festive Big Sur Wedding at Point 16

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: the most important thing about your wedding day is that it authentically reflects you as a couple. Nora and Nik’s wedding at Point 16 is a perfect example of how to do that! They both work in the environmental arena, so an outdoor celebration was the natural choice for them. When it came to décor, rather than scour the depths of Pinterest, they stuck to the bohemian colors and rustic textures they liked and let the overall design happen organically. The vibrant floral arrangements by Big Sur Flowers were some of the most beautiful we’ve ever seen – and we’ve seen a lot! We especially love how the bride used similar flowers in a half crown, which she tucked into a braided updo that showed off the low-back design of her Katie May dress and and gold back necklace by De La Luna. This wedding was truly unique from start to finish, and photographer Evynn LeValley did a beautiful job capturing every detail!

The Couple:

Nora and Nik

The Wedding:

Point 16, Big Sur, California

My husband and I both work in the international climate change and environment sphere and are nature lovers in general (we started dating in grad school while in Costa Rica), so we wanted a very natural setting for our wedding festivities that reflected our style and where our guests could relax in an intimate atmosphere. We live in Oakland and had casually Googled “Big Sur venues” before we got engaged after a stay at an AirBnB near Point 16. So, by the time we got engaged, we knew it was the spot for us and booked it within a week of our engagement. We loved that the ceremony and reception sites were one and the same, which gave us more time to catch up with our guests and make the most of a gorgeous outdoor setting.

My dad officiated our ceremony and wrote the entire thing himself (with our input, of course). He crafted a really unique and personal ceremony that complemented our vows, and it meant a lot to both of us to have him be our officiant.

For my wedding style, I knew what I didn’t like, so I visited a few bridal boutiques in San Francisco to narrow things down based on my personal style. I ended up falling in love with the Katie May gown that I chose – form-fitting with a low back and luxe materials, but still with a relaxed easiness that would look at home on the Big Sur coast! I complemented the low back with a necklace from De La Luna and custom statement earrings. Instead of a veil, I opted for a half flower crown incorporating pops of color and different textures on top of my braided up-do.

The entire day was more than we could have hoped for and just amazing, so it’s hard to pick just one most memorable moment! The day was really made by the amazing natural surroundings of Point 16 and the Big Sur coast. Point 16 has one of the best microclimates in Big Sur, and we truly got to enjoy the very best of it on our wedding day. Our ceremony felt like it was on the edge of the world, and it was a truly special and perfect place to exchange our vows. Later on, the fog stayed off the coast and resulted in a gorgeous late afternoon sky and sunset. Whales even surfaced nearby, and it was so much fun closing out the night around the fire pit wrapped in blankets and dancing under the stars.

I was never one of those people that was planning their wedding for years prior to actually getting engaged, and I took a pretty laid back approach to planning that likely horrified observers and seasoned wedding enthusiasts! I almost completely eschewed Pinterest boards or any formal wedding planning resources, and I exercised complete disregard for the concept of wedding colors and just went with what I liked. I planned from the bottom up, rather than being inundated with a million ideas that may or may not reflect us as a couple and what we envisioned for our day.

Our advice for couples who are planning their wedding is to not overthink it. Trust your gut and your personal style! It was easy to see how couples can fall victim to the paradox of choice when it comes to literally every aspect of wedding planning, so don’t second-guess yourself – you can spend forever agonizing over options you never even knew existed, when in reality, you are your own best inspiration!

Colorful Oslo Wedding Full of DIY Details

April 2, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

When Michaela, a professional wedding photographer, married Remi, a graphic designer, the result was this magical Oslo wedding that was bursting with color, energy, and impeccably designed details! Set in the garden venue of Disen gård, the couple left no DIY stone unturned. They painted cutesy lawn game and bar signs, created animal-inspired centerpieces and banners, set up a temporary tattoo station, and the bride even made her own wedding cake! Speaking of the bride: her By Timo lace wedding dress and the Eucalyptus flower crown that she wore for the portrait session were simply gorgeous. Photographer Eva, from Moment Studio, captured every detail beautifully!

The Couple:

Michaela and Remi

The Wedding:

Disen gård, Oslo, Norway

The most important thing for us was that the whole day would reflect us as a couple, our lifestyle, our interests and our taste. Since I (Michaela) am a wedding photographer myself I have seen so many weddings, and wanted our wedding to be something a bit different and non-traditional. Remi is a graphic designer and illustrator, so all the little details was really important to him. We also wanted the day to be really fun and memorable for our guests.

Our favorite Norwegian band, Comet Kid, played both during the ceremony and the first dance. We asked them to do a few covers of songs that mean a lot to us, so they played “Perfect Day” by Lou Reed as the processional song, “First Day Of My Life” by Bright Eyes during the ceremony, and their own song “Sweet Love” as the recessional song.

Our photographer, Eva, has been my photography mentor and is also a close friend, so we know her really well and knew we would be comfortable with her photographing everything. As a wedding photographer myself, I wanted to arrange everything for her so we could get the best photos possible. We had an unplugged ceremony (which I think is SO important), we placed the area of the ceremony to get the best light possible, and we actually did the portrait session a month later so both we and Eva could relax and get great candid photos on the wedding day. Eva is great to work with, and she is one of the best in the industry, so we and our guests felt super comfortable with her documenting everything!

The wedding bouquet and floral crown from Eucalyptus made me cry with joy. Eucalyptus is, in my opinion, the best of the best at what they do. I actually bought a new mini version of both the wedding bouquet and the floral crown for our wedding portraits.

Our best advice is to remember that the wedding day is all about the bride and the groom and no one else! Parents and friends have a lot of opinions, but at the end of the day, you should do what you want and not what is expected from everyone else. Dare to be non-traditional! There are really no rules, so don’t be afraid to do it your way.

We are vegetarians and foodies, but we weren’t sure if we should have a vegetarian menu or if we should serve meat. Most of our guests are meat eaters and a lot of people associate festive meals with meat.
But then we remembered that we are in charge and we wanted to give our guests an extraordinary vegetarian experience.

We did almost everything ourselves. We made all the invitations and place cards (everyone got their name painted on a mason jar that they could use in the bar later in the evening). We also did all the decorations and flower arrangements ourselves with some help from our friends. I even made the wedding cake myself, which helped us save money!

The ceremony was one of the highlights, seeing all of our friends and family gathered around us, smiling and crying. Another memorable part was our first dance outside on the grass, and everyone dancing like crazy while one of our favorite bands were playing live. We wanted something fun for the first dance as we’re not really into the whole serious first dance-thing, so we chose “Oogum Boogum” by Brenton Wood.

Cozy Downtown Long Beach Wedding at Howl

April 1, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Every detail of Devan and Matthew’s Long Beach wedding gets the combo of modern style and industrial charm so right! Set in a historic downtown venue, Howl, the couple’s take on modern romance was brought to life by the expert planners at Sweet Peach Planning, with a lot of design and DIY guidance by the bride. The couple’s fun-loving and artistic personalities went into every element of their day, from the custom poster with a quote from “The Princess Bride” to the pun-tastic sticker on the bags of coffee they gave to each guest. Keeping with the artistic spirit, we love how photographer Jaicee Morgan captured photos from unique angles and perspectives to give us a complete look into Devan and Matthew’s entire day!

The Couple:

Devan and Matthew

The Wedding:

Howl, Long Beach, California

We chose not to do a first look. Matthew really wanted to see me for the first time that day as I walked down the aisle. We were both already crying before I turned the corner to walk down the aisle, but when our eyes met, we both broke down completely. I sobbed the whole way down the aisle. All the stress melted and the real reason we were there – to say our vows to each other, to promise to be each other’s forever – became completely clear again.

We wrote our own vows, in addition to reciting the traditional vows. I had hand-written them for us to read. We tearfully recited them to each other in front of our guests. Only later did we realize that we were probably the only ones who could hear them! The microphone wasn’t close enough as we were speaking, so our personal vows became our incredibly intimate vows.

We really love coffee and we pretty much developed that love together. Neither of us liked it when we stared dating but we now have an espresso machine in our apartment! So we gave each of our guests a generous serving of coffee beans. Our wedding favors doubled as our place cards, as well. Each favor had a sticker with the guest’s name on it, and the very cheesy but fitting pun, “Thanks for bean here! Let us treat you to a something brewed.”

Eco-Friendly Wedding in Australia’s Blue Mountains

March 30, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

If there’s one thing we love more than weddings, it’s saving the earth – and this couple’s big day combines both! Sophie and Matt always suspected a large wedding was in the books for them, but they also wanted to be environmentally conscious about the materials they used. The couple thoughtfully incorporated locally sourced décor materials and opted to compost and repurpose as many items as they could once the wedding was over. Zoe Morley Photography captured every stunning detail moment of this eco-friendly wedding, including the elegant hanging chandelier planters that Sophie collaborated on with her florist!

The Couple:

Sophie and Matt

The Wedding:

St. Gregory’s Church & Chapel Hill Retreat, New South Wales, Australia

My brother (the Bridesman), played the organ as I walked down the aisle which was very special. He also played while one of my Bridesmaids sung ‘Make You Feel My Love’, while we signed the register.

Our ‘Ecofetti’ was so much fun! We had no idea it was going to have such an impact on us and our guests. Definitely one of the most excitable parts of the day!

I bought my dress about 10 months before the wedding – it was one of the first things I did for the wedding. The dress was very me – a vintage feel with lots of embellishment, but also quite understated at the same time. I hadn’t seen many dresses like it and all I knew was that I wanted to wear something unique! It didn’t have much of a train so I decided to buy the overskirt to wear to the ceremony, and I felt like a traditional bride and then enjoyed my sassy wedding dress post ceremony. It was perfect!

I had been recommended Zoe Morley Photography and looked her up straight away. I had never seen photos like Zoe’s – there’s many fantastic photographers out there and I looked at a lot of them, however no photos spoke to me like hers did! They have a certain feeling to them; with each photo its like you’re there in the moment. She has an incredible ability to capture each moment naturally and a lot of the time we didn’t even know she was there with us! We couldn’t be happier with our photos.

From the groom: The venue was close to home, and had the ‘Australian bush’ feel (Soph grew up in the Blue Mountains, and I grew up in the country), so it was very ‘us’. It also had accommodation on site for my interstate family. It was the first of only a few we looked at and it ticked all our boxes.

Growing up in the lower Blue Mountains, we had a big backyard, full of Australian natives. My dad used to pick a selection for my Mum and she’d always have them on our dining table. Native flowers have always reminded me of their love for one another and I always knew they would make an appearance on our big day. I also love the way they look. But I wanted to do something I had never seen before. So I experimented by teaming them with a Moroccan bohemian feel, through the lanterns, candlesticks, vases, and glassware. I loved the patterns on these, which I hired from Penny Lane Studio. I knew it could be risky if these two elements clashed, but I think they worked well together! I then chose a colour palette of burgundy, blue, and gold.

One of the most unique aspects of our wedding was that almost everything was hired locally or made by creative friends and family. It was virtually waste-free! A few examples are as follows: The florist is a friend of mine. Matt and I bought structures to hang from the ceiling from Bunnings to give to her. We had seen photos of hanging floral installations and wondered if they would work. They were actually just hanging planters (baskets) that the florist filled with foliage. Matt and the groomsmen then measured some chain and hung them up on hooks around the chandelier! Now that the wedding is over we will use them again for plants in our backyard!

Gum leaves were hand selected from my Aunty’s backyard for the place cards – she is my godmother and I grew up across the road from her in the Blue Mountains, so it was so lovely to involve her in the process. Her calligraphy skills on each setting was a beautiful touch for each of the 140 guests. Of course these were composted after, to reduce waste!

Fantastically Whimsical French Wedding at Château du Bourg

March 8, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

From the sweetest DIY details to the wedding party’s pastel get-up, we can’t help falling in love with Emilie and Thibault’s French wedding! The couple imagined their wedding to be a wonderland full of flimsy florals, whimsical typography, and warm wooden accents, and their vision came to reality at the gorgeous Château du Bourg venue. Emilie is an art director for a Paris advertising agency, so she used her artistic skills to design custom typography, illustrate badges, and construct coloring books as some of their wedding DIY favors. Laurence Revol captured every moment of Emilie and Thibault’s wedding perfectly, including some killer dance-floor shots!

The Couple:

Emilie and Thibault

The Wedding:

Château du Bourg, Perreux, France

I made an illustration representing our respective personality, features and passions and I printed it at posters. All the typography was handmade on Adobe Illustrator.

Our parents leading us to the altar and squeezing our hands with love and reassurance was one of the most memorable moments of the day.

Technically it’s impossible to tell you what was the most important in planning our wedding since every single detail was a main subject for us! But above all, the aim was to turn this day magical and share this unreal parenthesis of life with our beloved guests.

Our advice: You worked hard on this day during months so on the “D-Day,” let it go, even if something is not exactly the same as you planned, it will be wonderful no matter what.

We had in mind a wonderland made with a mix of wood elements, flimsy flowers, soft colors, vintage porcelain plates… something natural and enchanting with hundreds of sparkling details.

Our table numbers were fancy wooden golf holes with pale pink flags embroidered with golden numbers, handmade by my uncle and my mom. One golf ball in every hole was personalized with our wedding logo.

Our place cards were 250 little Bûcheboards we handmade with Thibault. They were mini versions of a logboard to sit on, one of my hobbies!

Floral Design – Florine Bouchet

Invitations & Paper Design – Emilie Ramain
Makeup Artist – Marie Carrère

Industrial Glam Maine Wedding at 58 Fore

February 25, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Kate and Luke had two main goals for their glam wedding at 58 Fore: to have a meaningful ceremony that broke tradition and was uniquely “them,” and to throw a killer party for their family and friends. When you see these photos by Abby Lorenz Photography, you’ll agree that they totally nailed it! Their ceremony was filled with loving advice from married couples whom they admire, a special song from the groom’s parents, and even a slight mishap with the rings that had everyone crying with laughter. With the help of expert planner Sarah Goodwin of Daisies and Pearls, they were able to cohesively tie together an industrial + glam + rustic vision with flea-market finds, DIY décor, and moody floral arrangements from Broadturn Farm. All in all, this is a great example of how to customize a space to fit your personal style(s)!

The Couple:

Kate and Luke

The Wedding:

58 Fore, Portland, Maine

We both strongly felt that having a meaningful ceremony was important. We wanted someone who knew us and understood us as a couple to marry us, so we asked Luke’s uncle to officiate. Instead of traditional readings, we asked three couples we admire — my brother and sister-in-law, Luke’s sister and brother-in-law, and the couple who introduced us — to offer advice and wisdom on marriage. Luke and I did not know what they were going to say beforehand, and it was amazing to take in how each couple was able to express their love and our love so eloquently. Luke’s parents sang “Perhaps Love” by John Denver, which was also their wedding song and a moment we’ll never forget.

One of the most memorable moments was when our officiant reached for my wedding band from Luke’s brother, and it slipped from their fingers. Our ceremony space was incredibly rustic, and there were large spaces between the floorboards. We thought for sure the ring was a goner, but instead of panic, Luke and I just started laughing. Soon, the whole room was laughing. Luckily, Luke’s brother had kept a careful eye on the ring and was miraculously able to recover it. We’ve since deemed the event the “ceremonial tossing of the rings.” We have no illusions that life will be perfect, and we loved that our wedding day embraced wonderfully imperfect instances such as this.

Luke and I had an unbelievable experience working with Abby Lorenz. It’s not only her stunning pictures that make her such an excellent photographer, but it’s also the manner in which she connects with people. She made us feel so comfortable and was able to sense what each of us needed in the moment. She took our great dance party photos by jumping in and dancing right along with the guests. Abby recognizes that a wedding is about more than just capturing the memories — it’s about living them. This outlook allowed us to enjoy and take in every second of our day.

The DIY details were some of our favorite décor from the day. My dad and I went to the Brimfield Flea Market and found distressed windows that we used to partition the lounge and reception area. My mother-in-law made all the signs on vintage window panes. She also wrapped pencils with pages from each of our graduate theses. Luke’s aunt hand-wrote the menus, also on vintage windows, and one of my bridesmaids hand-wrote all the place cards on agate slices. To display our signs, Luke’s uncle made stunningly crafted easels out of metal fence posts. We also constructed a wall made of vintage doors to hang our parents’ and grandparents’ wedding photos. We are so thankful to have had so many talented hands work together to make our day so beautiful and personal!

Our first piece of advice is to have fun with the process and work together. We stayed up late nights and listened to music, carefully selecting our wedding songs. We ordered food and watched movies while stuffing our invitations. We embraced each step and made it an experience. We also loved including our families in the planning. Our next piece of advice — trust your vendors! Luke and I were so lucky to have fantastic vendors who understood our hopes for the day. With Sarah Goodwin of Daisies and Pearls at the helm, we could not have asked for a better team to make our vision a reality.

Fabulous Downtown Seattle Wedding at Sodo Park

February 19, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Modern and fun downtown Seattle venue? Check. Gorgeous Hayley Paige wedding dress? Check. Surprise kazoo performance at the end of the ceremony? Check! Jacy and Tyler’s summer wedding at Sodo Park was full of elegant details and unexpected twists. They chose a classic color palette of black, white, and gold and added in pops of green wherever possible. They put their personal twists on the decor by using striped table runners and linens, creating place “cards” from agate slices, and offering cotton candy as a dessert option – as well as a take-home favor. Photographer Shannon Rosan was the perfect choice to capture every fab detail of this wedding, including some super cool portraits at the famous Pikes Place Market!

The Wedding:

Sodo Park, Seattle, Washington

I wore the Dori by Hayley Paige and was obsessed with it the moment I laid eyes on it. I saw an image of it online and literally said, “That’s my dress,” and searched the entire country for it until I located it! I knew I wanted something that was going to be a statement and definitely accomplished that. I wore my mom’s veil that she gifted me before she passed away, and I wore her diamond earrings and wedding ring as my accessories.

We’ll never forget walking through Pike Place Market for photos after the first look. It was INSANE with everyone yelling and shouting congratulations and woohoo’s to us! It felt like a movie scene, and I will never forget that feeling of love and glee in the middle of chaos.

To personalize our ceremony, we had the person who introduced us officiate our wedding. We also incorporated an Icelandic Ceremony Tradition as a nod to my Icelandic Heritage, and a section of the ceremony highlighted my mom who passed away last year. Finally, our best friend and my cousin both read passages during the ceremony, and our other best friend did a solo at the end of the ceremony when they broke into “All You Need Is Love.”

One of the most memorable parts of the day for me was when our officiant and dear friend Mackenzie asked us in the middle of the ceremony to pause, turn around and look out to all of the faces sitting in the crowd. The love in the room was palpable, and that was something I will never forget.

At the end of our ceremony, our band surprised the guests when they started to sing “All You Need is Love” and our bridal party joined in with Kazoos – that was pretty memorable as well!

A good friend told gave us the best piece of wedding advice that I’ll never forget: throughout your wedding day, and while you’re planning for the big day, remind yourself to stop and take mental photographs. Just stop, look around, and remember the smallest moments that all add up to the big day. I was so grateful to have that reminder; those are some of my very favorite (and funniest) memories.

We made the place cards out of agate slices with calligraphy writing. We also made the table numbers, all of the wooden signage, the balloon entrance, and all of the printed materials (menus, programs, etc).

Rustic Glam Swedish Wedding at Rosenhanska Magasinet

December 22, 2016 | Junebug Weddings

Victoria and John have always loved rustic, woodsy design elements just as much as they love glam details, so they decided to have the best of both worlds and throw a rustic glam wedding! Their Swedish wedding started with a classic church service and stretched into the night at Rosenhanska Magasinet, a rustic countryside barn venue the couple decked out in floral décor and tons of twinkly lights. We think Victoria’s lace Martina Liana bridal gown and royal blue Manolo Blahnik pumps perfectly reflected her love for glamour and natural beauty. Matilda Söderström Photography captured every moment of Victoria and John’s wedding, including their extra-fun first dance!

The most important thing was that our wedding reflected us and our personalities – from the venue, to our wedding attire, music, food, etc. We wanted to set the fun, yet laid back mood of our wedding and from the feedback and comments from our guests, it appears we managed that extremely well!

I found a bouquet on Pinterest and loved the type of flowers and colours – blue thistle, various pastel roses, apricot lisianthus mixed with green foliage. I then based the bridesmaids dress around these colours and matched my long sleeve style dress with theirs.

I knew I wanted a fitted dress as I’m quite slight but really wanted to look different at the same time. To what I’d seen other brides wear. So I went for an invisible lace dress with a detailed bodice but simple skirt/bottom half. I kept the glamour by having my hair pinned up high on my head and accessorized with Chanel drop earrings and bright blue, Manolo Blahnik heels. This was also my ‘something blue’.

For both of us, the most memorable part of the day was the alone time we had in the car after the church service to the venue. The driver, drove very slow and took a bit of a detour, so we took the opportunity to crack open a bottle of champagne, let the marriage experience sink in, (the ‘woah, we just did that and it feels amazing!’), enjoyed a few moments together driving through the Swedish countryside, before being greeted by the guests at our reception.

The groom, John, designed all invitations, place cards, menus and other signage to add that personal touch and reflect our style.

The setting of the venue was stunning, the venue was rustic and not polished. We loved the laid back nature of it, in contrast to our day to day life in London. We felt that the venue really encapsulated ‘us’. I’ve always loved the woodland and wanted to use this as an inspiration for our wedding – from colours, to textures, to flowers.

I had the vision for the table decorations, I wanted something more than flowers, so introduced faux moss, bud vases and small tea light holders to create the connectivity on the long tables.

Our wedding vibe/style was laid back, rustic, mixed with a bit of glam. I guess you could call it ‘rustic glam’ – our wedding attire was quite glam in comparison to the venue and its surroundings.
