Megan and Matt’s urban garden wedding took place at one of Los Angeles’ coolest venues. The Marvimon boasts a living wall filled with lush green tropical plants that served as a uniquely beautiful backdrop for the couple to say “I do.” With the venue’s natural elements in mind, A Soolip Wedding and HollyFlora designed a vibrant celebration with textured florals in joyful shades of pink, orange, and yellow paired on tables with small potted succulents and vintage vases.
The Couple:
Megan and Matt
The Wedding:
The Marvimon, Los Angeles, California
The Inspiration:
The theme we were going for was urban garden with a vintage California twist — exposed brick walls, long wood tables lined with succulents, flowers in ivory, butter, apricot, peach with pops of coral and deep eggplant held in vintage glass bottles, wood bowls and handmade ceramic vessels. Los Angeles has its historic architectural gems throughout the city and we loved the idea of incorporating our appreciation for its rich history in our wedding from sending out authentic vintage post cards hand typed (from the 20’s-40’s), to holding the wedding at The Marvimon. The Marvimon is a historic building, formerly an auto show room in the 1920’s converted into a loft space in downtown Los Angeles. As far as fashion goes, we wanted them to worry less about looking uniform and opting to have the freedom to find a dress/suit they would not only feel good in but also wear again, which is why we chose black.
The Moments:
We both agreed that our favorite moment was enjoying dinner with all of our guests. We had intentionally chose family style dining, passing dishes down the table, engaging and laughing with each other as if we were at someone’s house and not a formal wedding. That moment was symbolic in how we value and define community.
The Couple Recommends:
All of the vendors we hired were incredible but a couple that stand out was our day of wedding planner, Brooke Zipperman and photographer, Melissa O’Connell from Happy Confetti Photography. One thing we heard from friends was how stressful their weddings had been, so much so that it kept them from enjoying this day they had invested so much energy and money on. Brooke provided impeccable professional support in order for us to really be present and enjoy our day. I felt so confident in Brooke’s ability and handling of all the moving pieces of a wedding that trusting her and letting go was easy which was a huge relief for me.
We had researched a lot of local photographers in Los Angeles but had a hard time finding one that we felt understood the aesthetic we were going for. I had happen to hear of Melissa through a mutual friend. After viewing her website, I absolutely fell in love with how well she used natural light in her photography and emphasized organic candid moments that really captured and evoked strong emotions that I had not widely seen in wedding photographs.
