Artistic Los Angeles Wedding at Daily Dose Cafe

April 7, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Jordan and Michael’s wedding at Daily Dose Cafe is like a master class in artistry and style. Using vintage details, tons of ambient candle light, and jewel-tone floral arrangements by Shindig Chic, they created a romantic and eclectic vibe that fit perfectly with the Euro-chic venue. Even the surprise rain storm added to the old-world, European feel. The bride put her artistic director skills to good use by designing all of the printed materials and choosing an art deco-inspired Hayley Paige wedding dress. There’s no doubt that photographer Allison Harp was the perfect choice to capture all of unique and expertly designed details of this beautiful wedding!

The Couple:

Jordan and Michael

The Wedding:

Daily Dose Cafe, Los Angeles, California

For my wedding dress, I wanted something that would be timeless and classic. When my mom and I first went looking for “the dress,” I was generally grabbing more form fitting silhouettes, lace, something with a little bit of a vintage feel. They were gorgeous gowns that I really loved– until I saw the one. It was the complete opposite of what I always imagined and was looking for, but I couldn’t stop dancing and twirling once I had it on. It couldn’t fit my personality and style any better! I genuinely love everything about it.

The unique beading on the back made it challenging to find the right accessories, especially one’s that wouldn’t become too busy, distracting, or take away from other details. I knew I wanted something minimal for necklaces and went with a simple lariat from Catbird with another simple, light blue gemstone. I looked at dozens of earrings before deciding, but I think these were the perfect statement earring without taking away. I also wore a vintage diamond bracelet that Michael gave me for our first anniversary dating, something I’ll always cherish but don’t pull out often enough– it was a nice surprise for him, too.

Michael also has stellar style and isn’t one to dress typical in any way. His suit was full of little details that really helped to make it unique and made him stand out. From slightly cropped suit pants with a tuxedo stripe down the sides, maroon socks with a geometric pattern, navy shoelaces, a very subtle tone on tone stripe in his white shirt, and his SUPER unique vintage crossover tie. My man. Always setting the trend.

Seeing each other for the first time at either end of the aisle. Holy cow, I’ll never forget the look on Michael‘s face – I’ve never felt more beautiful or loved than in that moment!

Our advice: You. Do. You. It’s your day and there is nothing more boring than going to a wedding that doesn’t suit the couple and feel like “them.”

We knew something more traditional wouldn’t feel natural for us and it would take more work and decor to make it feel like something that represented us and our style. I feel like we looked at every possible venue in the LA area, as well as Airbnb houses looking for something that naturally had the vibe we wanted. Daily Dose Cafe totally had the whole euro-chic + grunge, eclectic look that just felt right. We immediately fell in love with the vine covered brick wall and graffiti in the alley.

I’m an art director and I’ve always dreamed of designing my own wedding suite. So we DIYed all of our printed materials – save the dates, invites, programs, escort cards (huge props to my mom for helping put that display together with lots of problem solving), any little signs we needed, and the labels for our favors. It was the most fun I’ve ever had designing something for myself.

We are both extremely eclectic, artistic, love everything vintage, and a little grunge, so we knew from the beginning our wedding would reflect that. So many of the elements inspired and helped influence each other bringing everything together in a way that coordinated and wasn’t too overwhelming or mismatched in an ugly way. We wanted tons and tons of candles for that perfect intimate lighting, lots of flowers and greenery to soften some of the grunge mixed-metal accents and other unique elements to make it feel cozy and personalized.

From the very beginning of our relationship, Michael always always made me the best mixed CDs. They were always themed out a little bit, but he put so much thought into the song selection and overall flow/vibe, and it’s something I would always look forward to and get so excited about! Our wedding favor was the ultimate mixed CD with songs that definitely show how eclectic (even in our music taste), completely goofy, and totally in love we are with a few selections from our wedding playlist.

The rain was a total surprise! We are in the heart of LA during one of the worst droughts and there was zero chance of rain, until it started to rain. Our coordinator, Sweet Emilia Jane, was a true life saving hero and picked up several umbrellas on her way to set up just in case. A million THANK YOUs to her! It brought an instant European feeling and made for some killer photos when we were all seated for dinner.

Processional – “Wedding Song” by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Recessional – “I’ll Fight” by Wilco
First Dance – “You and Me” by Penny and the Quarters

Our cake topper was this precious vintage piece with delicate lace that belonged to my Nanny and PawPaw when they got married in 1948 on Valentine’s Day. It was so meaningful to have a part of them there for our day – my PawPaw is one of my heroes and fiercely pursued my Nanny her whole life. A huge example of true love to everyone who knew them.

This Intimate Desert Wedding in Arizona is Full of Thoughtful Details and Love

April 6, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Meg and Matt work together for a wilderness therapy nonprofit in Arizona, so they spend the majority of their lives outdoors. When they were in the process of choosing a wedding venue, they immediately knew they wanted a space that would reflect their love for the Arizona desert. Enter: The Paseo! This adventurous couple decked out The Paseo‘s naturally comfortable event space with found objects from thrift store trips and foraged items from the desert to reflect their love for sustainable desert-inspired goods. We can’t get enough of Teresa Jack Photography‘s documentation of Meg and Matt’s day, including breathtaking bridal portraits featuring Meg’s two vintage wedding gowns!

The Couple:

Meg and Matt

The Wedding:

Superstition Wilderness & The Paseo, Apache Junction, Arizona

In planning our wedding, the most important aspect was to ensure our families could attend in their entirety. The Warner’s and Evans have been friends for over 30 years, so getting everyone together was like a huge friendship reunion for multiple generations. In choosing a date that worked for everyone, our many siblings were able to come from across the nation and world, including Africa and Italy. It was a really special event; overflowing with joy, love, support, and deep rooted friendship.

The ceremony was incredible. Our closest friends and family generously sacrificed to join us in the Arizona desert and support our union. Our dear friend Dan officiated, the beautiful music was provided by 3 talented and wonderful friends, the cliffs in the background were stunning, and our families were bursting with happiness. With so many of our dear one’s involved, every detail was full of meaning. We have never felt such overwhelming love and support, for each other and for our families.

During the ceremony, I had the great honor of wearing my Grandmother’s gown, handmade by my Great-Grandmother. It was a powerful experience for me to wear a dress handed down from such amazing women- full of love, selflessness, and dedication to their families. My second dress was also vintage, from Gossamer.

After working together for a wilderness therapy nonprofit located in Arizona, we knew we wanted to get married in the desert in which we fell in love. We also wanted our grandparents and siblings with young children to feel comfortable and close to amenities they needed. The Paseo allowed for us to hold the ceremony in the open desert, while the reception was in a beautiful, comfortable space just a short walk away.

I can’t say we ever chose a wedding vibe.. we just did what felt right to us and our lifestyle. We live outside half the year, hiking through the desert with ‘at risk youth’, so we feel very inspired and in love with the abundant beauty around us. Gathering inspiration from the desert in which we live was the only thing that made sense!

We spent many days out in the desert gathering simple inspiration and decorations like rocks, driftwood, and dead and downed cactus. I thrifted all the glassware and brass candlesticks which lined the tables. My family and friends graciously arranged the bundles of loose flowers I chose from a flower warehouse in downtown Phoenix. Everything at our wedding had a special history and meaning to us. It was a beautiful reflection of our connection to our families and our deep appreciation for the Earth.

My whole life I have been obsessed with thrift shopping, so it was my great pleasure to hunt for all the glassware, vases, candlesticks, rugs, and frames. 90% of our wedding was from a thrift store, and we loved it. Also, to keep costs down, we chose and arranged the flowers ourselves. Matthew’s mother made us our delicious cake. DIY is not always the easiest option; but everything at our wedding had so much history and meaning to us, and that made it all the more special.

Don’t be too strung out on perfectionism. With so many beautiful weddings bouncing around on the internet, it was easy for me to compare myself and get down about certain limitations or shortcomings. It was useless! The day was beautiful because our hearts were full of love for each other and excitement about our future together. In the beginning, middle, and end- that is all that matters.

Intimate Carmel Valley Wedding at Folktale Winery

April 5, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

When it comes to elegant intimacy and romantic marsala color palettes, look no further than Lexi and Jourdan’s Folktale Winery wedding! Lexi, a former Account Executive for us here at Junebug Weddings, had always dreamed of a small wedding, so the second she laid her eyes on Folktale Winery‘s intimate reception hall, she knew the venue was perfect for her event. The couple’s home is in NYC, so they traveled to the West Coast with their closest family and friends to celebrate their marriage in California. Photographer Greg Petersen captured every moment of Lexi and Jourdan’s wedding perfectly, including their impromptu first dance during the ceremony!

The Couple:

Lexi and Jourdan

The Wedding:

Folktale Winery, Carmel, California

I wanted everyone to enjoy themselves and have FUN! Beyond that I’d say that flowers, music, photography, food + wine were pretty high on my list of things that were most important when it came to planning our wedding. We got incredibly lucky with all our vendors, especially since I was planning the wedding from a different state.

My florist Reina and her team did the most amazing job considering I didn’t meet her until the day of the wedding. She executed my vision perfectly, which was so exciting to see after months of countless emails and conversations.

After a lot of consideration (and compromise!) we decided to have a small, intimate wedding. There were so many family members and close friends we wish were there to celebrate with us, but keeping it to a small group of people who have helped shape us as humans was really special. Getting to marry my best friend and pledge our lives + love to each other in front of them was a moment we’ll both never forget.

Our nieces are a month a part in age and they were the cutest flower girls I’ve ever seen. Since it was a destination wedding, the only DIY thing I did were the flower girl baskets. It was so hard to find ones that I liked, so my sister-in-law and I went to Michael’s the day before the wedding and made them. One was accidentally left behind the day of, but I think they turned out so cute!

Jourdan‘s uncle is a pastor in Texas and flew to California to marry us, which made our ceremony and vows extra special. We made the decision to write our own vows and Jourdan‘s made me laugh and cry. My brilliant husband somehow managed to make SpottieOttieDopaliscious by OutKast super romantic and poetic.

Right before we were announced as husband and wife at the reception, we spontaneously decided that we were going to do a first dance in front of everyone. I’m so glad we did – it was such a fun moment for us!

Our photographer Greg was a gem – he was super chill and easy to work with. I adore his aesthetic and he managed to capture the essence of us and our wedding day with such ease. There is a lot of love and genuine happiness in those photos!

Carmel is a special place for us and we knew we wanted to get married in that part of the country. I loved the entire vibe of the venue and the fact that it didn’t need much in terms of decorations. The minute I saw the Greenhouse with that beautiful long wooden table, I knew it would be the perfect setting for an intimate reception. I immediately envisioned everything! And it’s a winery – who doesn’t love good wine?!

Our advice: Don’t stress about the little things! And if you’re doing a destination wedding, find a venue that offers event coordination. It was such a blessing to have Nina at Folktale Winery execute and coordinate everything for us. I could relax and enjoy each minute of our wedding day knowing that every little detail had been taken care of.
