This Chic Wayfarer’s Chapel Wedding May Look Effortless, But The Couple Thoughtfully Curated Every Detail

July 24, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Jessie and Adrian’s wedding at Wayfarer’s Chapel is classically beautiful in every detail. Each detail was done with such intention, and Kindred Wedding + Events put it all together in a picture-perfect way for photographer Haley Rynn Ringo and videographer Parfait Productions to capture. These two lovebirds customized everything in their wedding from welcome bags for their guests by Be Collective to an engagement ring painting done by the bride herself, Jessie Kuruc! With such talent and an eye for design, it’s no surprise Jessie and Adrian’s wedding turned out gorgeously!

The Couple:

Jessie and Adrian

The Wedding:

Wayfarer’s Chapel, Palos Verdes, California

Our wedding advice is to shop small! It’s so easy to get wrapped up into the convenience of buying wedding items at a craft store or getting your ring at a big box store, but when you shop from small businesses, you’re not only getting more unique things, you’re lucky enough to contribute to somebody’s life’s work. Plus, the service is SO much more personal! We entered married life with some incredible new friends because we grew close to some of our vendors and didn’t want the relationships to stop after we said our vows. I think that personalized, genuine level of communication from a vendor is much more valuable than having a big corporation crank out your wedding and I truly think your guests can tell the difference. It’s almost like buying a store-bought cake or having one made by your grandmother–you just know which one is made with love!

Something Borrowed Blooms are another friend that I’ve made through the industry and were so generous to send me these flowers for my wedding day, but I truly was already planning on using them! The concept of their business is amazing, but the women who run it are so passionate and it shows. The flowers were literally the last thing on my mind the entire day, and if we had done real flowers I think I would have been stressing all weekend, so I can’t say enough good things about them.

We actually chose Wayfarer’s Chapel when we were really new in our relationship. The first time we ever visited California together, I wanted to visit the chapel because it was designed by the son of Frank Lloyd Wright. We walked in and were just awestruck by how beautiful and unique it was. It was WAY too early for us to be talking about marriage, but in our heads, we both thought “okay, if I marry this person, it has to be here!” We ended up moving to the area a few years later and after almost five years of dating, we ended up getting married at that very chapel!

Our photographer, Haley, is absolutely incredible. Not only is she talented, but she has this firey heart and spirit. She makes every person feel like they’re her best friend. We could not be more thrilled with our photos and I recommend her to everyone I know (and don’t know!)

I think the biggest of the DIY projects was collecting all of our decor. I spent an entire year gathering lanterns and candles and random trinkets from the clearance department of my church (TJMaxx) and my temple (Homegoods.) It was a lot of slightly damaged goods, a lot of gold paint, and a lot of space being taken up in our apartment. My favorite of the projects was actually our place cards, though! I had a vision for these California-shaped place cards but could not find anything similar, so I reached out to Etsy sellers who made acrylic ornaments and found someone who could do a custom shape for me. I had him cut 90 acrylic Californias so I could do calligraphy on each one, making it a place card cute enough for a guest to want to take home.

The most important thing when planning was the DETAILS! We’re both extremely detail-oriented, so knowing that every detail was carefully chosen made us feel like we really put our heart and soul into our wedding day. Everything down to the cocktail napkins was picked for a reason! The entire day was also very guest-centered, which was our number one priority. We’ve been to a lot of ‘could have been great’ weddings and we knew that we didn’t want to our day to be remembered as the wedding where there wasn’t enough food, or nobody really danced, or worse, it isn’t remembered at all. We wanted every guest to feel spoiled and considered!

One really memorable personalization of our day was the daddy-daughter dance. My dad was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer the day of Adrian and I’s first date in May of 2013. Though we were supposed to have a few years left, he passed away a month and a half later and in a way it always felt like it was all timed in a divine way–where Adrian stepped in right as my dad stepped out. I had my dad’s best friend walk me down the aisle, but nobody was the right fit for the daddy-daughter dance except my husband. We did our first dance as husband and wife and were then introduced to do my daddy-daughter dance together, in his honor, to one of my dad and I’s favorite Beatles songs. It was so emotional for everyone because my dad was my best friend and every guest knew that, but it made our wedding day extra special.

The most memorable part of our day was surprisingly the dancing at the reception. We had an open craft cocktail bar that our friends and family flocked to like it was their last day on earth, so by the time dancing rolled around everyone was well hydrated and had a total blast. The best part was being able to see my sorority sisters from college, his childhood best friends, my old neighbors, our jewelers, and everyone in between all out on the dance floor at once. It’s almost surreal to see all the people you love from all areas of your lives in one space, sharing finger food and cocktails, and celebrating your relationship. We wanted everyone to feel welcome, even though a lot of the guests didn’t know each other, and seeing them all dancing TOGETHER (not just near each other) was absolutely incredible!

This Sand Rock Farm Wedding was Filled with Elegant Whimsy

July 15, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Laura and Alex’s wedding at Sand Rock Farm began with a ceremony beneath giant redwoods and ended with a silent disco, so we think it’s safe to say this was one epic celebration! The couple chose the California location as a nod to their dating years and tasked E Events Co. with helping them bring their whimsical, natural, and elegant vibes together into one beautifully designed event. With a little sparkle, boho rugs and lanterns, handmade signage, and a mixture of floral bouquets and table runners made of moss and succulents from Amanda Connors Designs in Bloom, they nailed their one-of-a-kind vision! Because of the location of the venue in the California hills, the couple planned an epic silent dance party and a surprise second line that paid tribute to the bride’s Louisiana roots and allowed their guests to dance to their heart desire. Kristen Soileau Portraits totally captured the whimsical elegance and laid-back fun of this California wedding!

The Couple:

Laura and Alex

The Wedding:

Sand Rock Farm, Santa Cruz, California

We really wanted to make sure that our wedding not only felt like us but that our guests knew just how important they were to us! Every detail was special and had some impact on the weekend. We personalized our guestbook to have their photos in it, personalized messages on our wedding favors, and handmade our invitations, envelopes and save the date. Everywhere our guests went at the venue, we wanted them to know that we were thinking about them and we were so thankful they were there to share our day.

We did a lot of DIY throughout our wedding, including most of the design, the calligraphy on the menus, chalkboards, place cards, photo booth sign, and envelopes. Alex designed the reserved signs, the invites, save the dates, and the napkins. He even built the arch with one of our groomsmen. We bought the ceremony rug on our engagement trip to Morocco!

Our ceremony was definitely the most memorable part of the entire #sparklebashwedding! I loved walking down the aisle to see Alex waiting for me. He was crying, I was crying…everyone was crying! The entire ceremony was so personal. One of our best friends officiated the wedding and it was so special because not only did we write our own vows, but his ceremony was filled with hilarious stories of our relationship that made the entire ceremony so unique to us.

My favorite thing to hear from our guests was that the wedding was so us. At the beginning of planning our wedding, we sat down and privately listed out our top 5 adjectives that we wanted to describe the wedding, compared them, and then combined the list into the top 6. Ours were laissez-faire, natural, whimsical, considered, low-key sparkly, and laughter-filled dance party.

Neither of us is from California (Alex from Pennsylvania, Laura from Louisiana, but dated in California), so we wanted to make sure it felt like a perfect blend of our relationship, our strengths (he’s a designer and I’m an event producer), and who we are as people and highlight where we are from! There’s a whole lot of Alex + Laura vibes (the 6 adjectives above), a splash of California, and a sprinkle of Louisiana.

We love a good dance party. Our friends love a good dance party. The hills love a good dance party until it’s too loud. And our venue? Nestled in the valley of Santa Cruz Hills. So our solution? A surprise silent disco! Watching the videos afterward of our friends and family dancing so hard to music you can’t hear unless you have headphones on is hilarious!

Another surprise we had for our guests, was ending the evening with a New Orleans tradition and second lined our way out of the barn with our headphones on and our custom second line umbrellas.

9 Couples Who Nailed Their DIY Weddings

July 3, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

There are few things we love more than brilliantly crafted and meticulously curated DIY weddings! Junebug couples continue to find new, creative, and seriously impressive ways to personalize their big days, which is why we decided to do a round-up of some of our all-time favorite DIY weddings. Below you’ll find collages of the details the couple (or their friends and family) made, as well as explanations of what they did and/or how they did it. If you’re feeling particularly inspired or just want to learn a new crafty skill, we also included video tutorials to help you recreate some of the projects.

ANGELA & COLIN

Angela and Colin’s DIY wedding was a bohemian-inspired dream come true! The bride created macrame and tapestry hangings, freeform bouquets and centerpieces, hand-painted signs, a gift teepee, and a copper “taco bout a party” board to display their llama keychain favors. As if that wasn’t enough, she even learned the shibori fabric dying technique to create custom indigo napkins for each guest! If you’re interested in the shibori dying technique, check out the video below. Then, don’t forget to check out the rest of Angela and Colin’s wedding right here!

Shibori was something I was wanted to explore with for some time, I wanted our vibe to be simple, but also bohemian. Shibori was a staple look that I could work with whether I wanted to make it classy or rustic, once I knew I could play around with look in whatever circumstance I was sure this was the best choice. Each guest received a napkin hand dyed shibori, I bought muslin fabric to really get that deep blue indigo look. I made all my own macrame and tapestry hangings, some were made out of the macrame cord, my biggest one I made, was made out of piping cord, a thicker cotton rope. I mainly just searched basics on Pinterest and made my own designs based on what I learned.

I did all my florals for my wedding day including installations, centerpieces, but of course, I had a few helping hands, but I created all the bridesmaids’ bouquets, along with my own. I studied bouquets and color themes and then created what bouquets I liked. Most of my signage was handmade as well, I bought plexiglass and collected mirrors around my room, and did calligraphy on all of them. This was just something I learned through friends, Pinterest, practice. Our guests take home gifts were tiny llama keychains, that were a little representation of my husband and I. I built a hanging board for them, just painted it metallic copper, and nailed in some push pins, and wrote in calligraphy. Lastly, I made the gift teepee, I had lace fabric, and four poles of wood that I propped up with rope, there were plenty of tutorials to build an intricate teepee, I settled for a simpler set up.

MEGHAN & KASH

The cozy and industrial vibes in Meghan and Kash’s downtown Seattle wedding were taken to a whole new level with all the DIY projects they completed! To keep the integrity of the iconic red brick venue, the couple kept their palette clean with whites/creams, greys, greens, and subtle pops of mixed metallics and relied on candlelight to set a romantic mood. They DIY-ed nearly every detail, from the centerpieces to the signage to the Irish Blessing guestbook, and the overall look was as charming as could be.  If you’re interested in learning how to make floral centerpieces like the ones Meghan and Kash created, we found an expert to teach you how below. And, if you can’t get enough of their beautiful wedding, you can see the rest of their special day here!

Around 90% of our wedding was DIY. The mother of the bride created a portion of the floral displays using fake flowers for different decorative arrangements. The signage, programs, favors, blessing stones (guest book), and dessert bar were all DIY.

Small details went a long way. The best part about small details is they can be very inexpensive. So, our advice is to pay attention to the little things. Alone they may seem insignificant, but added up they truly contribute to the whole atmosphere. Since our wedding was in January, we wanted a cozy, intimate vibe. We accomplished that by pairing candles and whites/creams with the raw brick. The flowers, lace, and calligraphy added a romantic feel. It was simple and worked really well together.

EMILY & ALEX

When the bride and groom own a home goods store and are committed to making every detail of their wedding, you know it’s going to be magical! Emily and Alex’s Kansas City wedding took place at an upscale bistro, which matched the couple’s modern aesthetic perfectly. They created wood planters, gold geometric table accents, wood signs, and upcycled candle holders. To round out their DIY decor, they also tasked two of their business-owning friends to create the floral arrangements and the most stunning fabric banner we’ve ever seen! Trust us, you’ll want to pin every detail of this crafty wedding, and maybe even learn to make a fabric banner of your own with the tutorial below!

We DIY-ed everything. We run a small business making home goods (complete with fully-stocked woodshop and studio) and are blessed to have a talented group of amazing friends. We couldn’t justify buying anything we could make! We crafted all the centerpieces and favors and tapped friends to do the flowers and reception decor.

JESSIE & ZAC

Nearly every detail of Jessie and Zac’s lovely camp-inspired wedding was either handmade by the creative duo (professionally known as The Sturgeons) or by their equally talented family and friends. Their woodsy camp venue offered the perfect rustic backdrop for their relaxed design and allowed the handmade macrame hangings, the flower arrangements, the hand-sewn pillows, the hand-lettered signage, and the homemade desserts to take center stage. No detail was left untouched, which is why you should check out Jessie and Zac’s full wedding feature here! If you’re curious how to recreate their green and white floral table garlands, see the tutorial below.

If we didn’t make something ourselves, someone else close to us did! The entire day was crafted by us or our loved ones. It was amazing how many helping hands and creative people we are so lucky to be surrounded by. Everyone poured their talents into our wedding. Jessie‘s sister made the bouquets, Jessie‘s mom made a handmade book for us to keep memories from the wedding in, and Jessie‘s dad made the ceremony arch to hang the macrame Jessie made on. Zac‘s grandma sewed pillows and cushions for our benches.

Zac‘s mom baked pies for those with dietary restrictions. Zac hand-lettered all the invitations and name cards and both of us made and printed our own save the dates and invitations. Zac‘s best friend, Spencer, illustrated our portraits and other pieces for our invitations, and a classmate from school screen printed our gifts to our guests. There was a lot of love poured into our wedding, and we are eternally grateful!

GINA & FERNANDO

We have a huge soft spot for couples that DIY their entire wedding, and this Zona Colonial wedding in the Dominican Republic is proof positive why! Gina, who owns the Los Plebeyos design studio, made literally every detail of this wedding with her work partner and Fernando, the groom. While Fernando took care of all the woodwork details, Gina painted signs, designed floral arrangements, crafted paper goods, personalized two leather jackets, and turned the Spanish-style patio venue into a tropical haven. She even embellished her ’70s-inspired gown with pink flowers to match the color palette. This DIY wedding, which you can see here, was goals from beginning to end! We were even inspired to learn how some hand-lettering techniques like the ones shown below so we can create some gorgeous signage, as well!

We had 9 months of planning and DIY workshops so we could make it just as we imagined and the result was even better! We are very proud that we made everything ourselves because that’s what made it so special for us. We enjoyed every single day until the day we saw everything set. For my bridal look, I wanted something that reflected my personality, so I added some pink embroidered flowers to my dress. A friend also made a custom hairpiece with crystals and a gold chain.

My design studio did all the graphics and illustration of the invitations, painted the back panels and reception signs, and illustrated two leather jackets. We even designed the neon sign and painted the fireworks box. The groom made everything related to wood, including the bar sign, wood figures, and boxes. We even made the pennants, confetti cones, and the “ cheesy stuff” cheese bar sign.

ADRIANA & GABE

The pristine shores of Tulum, Mexico were made for DIY weddings, and wedding designer Adriana of The Creative’s Loft and her fiancé Gabe took full advantage! The secluded beach offered the perfect haven for their intimate ceremony and featured a stunning macrame backdrop the couple has since repurposed into home decor and DIY wands with bells for the dance-party style exit to the cocktail hour. Adriana styled every inch of the reception, channeling a beautiful beachy vibe with the bohemian decor, rustic signage and food/drink bars, and vintage photo displays. Check out all of the quintessentially beachy details right here, and get ready to make all your macrame dreams come true with the DIY tutorial below!

One of our favorite parts of wedding planning was all the DIY projects we got to do! We designed the following items: wedding wands with bells and “Happy Tears” kits for the ceremony; sparkler DIY kits for the first dance; menus and place cards; table chargers using various Mexican tile patterns; mini bottles of spicy Mexican sauce; mini cans of tea; dance floor props; and customized tattoos with our wedding hashtag (#contigoalquintopino).

As a wedding planner and a bride, my strongest and most personal advice for other couples is to customize your wedding according to your values and what you like the most! This is crucial to ensure you enjoy the whole process of designing your wedding! In addition, make it personal!!! Create some time to design DIY ideas and details for the day…this makes everything! Is how your wedding stands out from the typical wedding. In addition, analyze in advance where do you envision getting married (in your city, a destination wedding…a private property, secluded beach). This decision makes the difference!

MISTY & JOHNNY

We must admit, our 12-year-old hearts are so in love with the nostalgic summer camp vibes in Misty and Johnny’s camp wedding! This sweet couple traded in a traditional, buttoned-up wedding for a fun and free-spirited weekend celebrating love and life with their friends and family in the woods. Their reception was a DIY dream come true, complete with screen-printed flags, personalized pins, hand-painted signs, and fabulous greenery arranged in the bride’s personal collection of vintage thermoses. Misty even asked one of her oh-so-talented friends to arrange the greenery bouquets for her and the bridesmaids, and the result was simply stunning! Our favorite details were the screen-printed flags, which can easily be done at home with the tutorial below. Check out the couple’s full wedding feature and let us know what your favorite detail was!

A friend arranged our beautiful greenery bouquets and arrangements and did an outstanding job. My career is in graphic design, so I couldn’t wait to have fun with every single detail! I designed our entire collection of wedding collateral, from the save the dates with buttons and our invites to the screen printed pennants we used for centerpieces, hand painting the signs, and using my own curated collection of vintage thermoses for decor. I poured my heart into every detail! My friends were also amazing the weekend-of, helping to make all those DIY ideas come to life. Couldn’t have done it without them!

JOSH & RYAN

Josh and Ryan’s eclectic DIY Knoxville wedding proves that #southernbeausdoitbetter! With the support of Josh’s mom and aunts, who all own a vintage rental and wedding staging company, the couple was able to fill the industrial venue with handmade, one-of-a-kind details that added a vintage twist to their eclectic style. The completely blank canvas allowed them to add everything from Eddison string lights to a fireplace, and everything in between. For their favors, they potted succulents in hand-picked jars, which is one of the cutest and easiest DIY wedding favor ideas we’ve seen! (If you’re like us and do not have a green thumb, we found some beginner tips to help you get started below.) Seriously, you won’t want to miss a single moment of this eclectic, vintage wedding!

Our whole wedding was DIY! We did everything with the support of Sisters’ Vintage Rentals. We even built 16 8’ farmhouse tables for the reception, as we wanted a family feel. We stained telephone wire spools that housed all the food. The Wednesday before the wedding we loaded at 20’ U-Haul truck along with a trailer and carloads full of supplies included 13 antique doors, window frames, a ladder with Edison light bulbs, two couches, 6 large chairs, pews, a fireplace, coffee tables, 28 centerpieces, greenery, and a bar. We had a blank canvas with our venue and it was like we were moving into our home. Ryan even made the bouquets and boutonnieres for our nephews and nieces in the wedding!

Our wedding favors were succulents that our guests could take with them so they could remember to let love grow. We collected little containers from all over Kentucky and Tennessee for over a year so that each succulent was planted in its own unique container. We displayed them on a cart with crates, ladders, books, and an antique door to create a focal point to draw our guests into the ceremony space. We chose succulents because they fit our style and overall look of our greenery, as we did not want to use any flowers. Succulents are also something you can find in our NYC apartment, which helped add to our theme of creating a welcoming and homey feel for our wedding.

KATIE & TODD

Floral hoops, agate slice table numbers, and watercolor prints are just a few of the spectacular details Katie and Todd made for their backyard wedding at the bride’s family home! Oh, and we can’t forget the 30 farmhouse tables that the couple built themselves! Katie and Todd even got their family involved by having Katie’s dad build the ceremony backdrop. This outdoor wedding was bursting with color and inspiration for crafty couples who are looking for DIY ideas to fill out an open space, such as a backyard. We love that they used floral hoops, which are easy and inexpensive to make following the tutorial below, to fill the vertical space of their tent. If you want a closer look at every gorgeous detail, check out Katie and Todd’s full wedding here!

In the months leading up to the wedding, Todd and I made all 30 of our beautiful farm tables that our guests dined on. My dad built our ceremony arch and the barn that we used for our bar. We designed our invites, menus and made the hoops that hung from the tent, vases for the centerpieces and the rest of the decorations. It was a lot of work but thankfully we had a lot of help from our awesome friends and family.

Handmade California Greenhouse Wedding at Shelldance Orchid Garden

June 7, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

If you’ve followed us for a while, you know that greenhouse weddings are high on our list of favorites, and this California wedding at Shelldance Orchid Garden is no exception! Christine and Jesse brought all their friends and family to their new home in California over the Thanksgiving holiday for a weekend-long celebration that included a potluck feast, bowling, and, of course, their incredible wedding! Although the greenhouse venue was bursting with plants, Floral Times added textural bouquets and garlands to personalize the space and fit the couple’s wildly romantic yet laid-back vibe. Christine channeled her inner boho goddess with a cold-shoulder BHLDN gown and tassel earrings and sprinkled some of that boho flair into the reception decor with a handmade ribbon backdrop and floral hoops. Every detail was exceptionally and thoughtfully crafted by the couple and their loving guests, and Lilly Red Creative captured it all beautifully!

The Couple:

Christine and Jesse

The Wedding:

Shelldance Orchid Garden, Pacifica, California

We asked everyone to gather on Thanksgiving weekend and wanted everyone to know how much it meant to spend a holiday with us. We chose this weekend because, when we moved to New York several years ago, we started a Friendsgiving tradition. We loved the idea of having everyone close to us in town for a Friendsgiving wedding! On Thanksgiving day (the day before the wedding), we gathered everyone for a game of kickball and then a potluck-style Thanksgiving dinner in our backyard. After the wedding, we rented lanes at a bowling alley. The whole weekend was packed with plans and fun memories!

We had stumbled onto Shelldance Orchid Garden one day on a bike ride and thought how nice the place would be for a wedding before we even knew the greenhouse did weddings. After two years and having passed Shelldance so many times, we knew it was the right place. It had everything we wanted! It was small and intimate and it didn’t need a lot of decorations because it was full of plants. The land the venue was on also allowed us to go with the crazy idea to have everyone hike up a hill for a gorgeous view of the ocean for our ceremony.

Jesse and I call each other “Dear” and, over the years, we have collected little deer trinkets. So, we made sure to sprinkle in deer motifs throughout the decor. We had a few antlers and deer brass candlestick holders, and we even placed deer-shaped Christmas ornaments on the donut pyramid. Our friends helped us make the indigo napkins and hand-letter the place cards. I also made the backdrop for the dance floor and the “Mr. and Mrs.” hoops that we hung behind our seats.

So many guests played some role in making our day happen! Our best friend officiated the ceremony, my dad put on my shoes like a princess, and our friend drove me in our Subaru up the top of the hillside where we got married. My girls were our day-of coordinators and made sure all the ducks were in a row. One of my friends even let me borrow her sneakers to dance at the reception because my feet hurt so bad from my heels! It was truly a day that lived beyond any feeling or expectation we had set.

Our advice is simple: don’t stress so much. Yes, you should make lots of lists and spreadsheets and check them twice. But, at the end of the day, your guests should be there for you, not to see which napkins you chose or what song they’re going to dance to. Also, when your family and friends offer up their help, take them up on it as much as you can!

This Elegant and Earthy New Zealand Farm Wedding Has a Seriously Epic View

May 26, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Keeping eco-friendly practices, locally sourced food, and rustic DIY decor top of mind, Jess and Timmy made their New Zealand farm wedding into the day of their dreams. The couple set up hay bales and a circular grass-covered backdrop for their ceremony, which added just a hint of rustic charm but didn’t distract from the breath-taking view of the lush, green hills. After they exchanged vows, Jess, Timmy, their wedding party, and Ruby + Wolf Photography wandered off onto the farm for champagne, wind-blown portraits, and a potato spontaneous potato sack race. For their reception, Betty + Co. assisted the couple in creating an outdoor dinner party beneath a giant marquee in which they served vegetables and meat sourced from the farm and tasked the Puree band to keep the party going well into the night! There were so many heartfelt moments in this wedding, but few were sweeter than the 138 personalized thank you notes Jess and Timmy wrote for each of their guests.

The Couple:

Jess and Timmy

The Wedding:

Kaituna Ridges Farm, Marlborough, New Zealand

Our vows first and foremost were very important to us. Through all the craziness of the planning, we tried to keep these at the forefront of our mind as they reminded us what the wedding was all about and the reason for gathering all our loved ones around us. The vows kept us grounded throughout the busy weeks leading up to our big day! Aside from this, we really wanted to have a big party with our favourite people, it’s not very often in our lives we get to have so many close family and friends in the one spot, we wanted everyone to have a hell of a lot of fun, so hired a fantastic band to get everyone on the dance floor and end our day on a high!

Finally seeing each other for the first time at the ceremony is something we will never forget. Everything had been building up for weeks, months (years) to that moment and it finally happened and was just incredible. There’s nothing like seeing your best friend waiting for you at the end of the aisle with the biggest smile on their face!

Along with the immense help from friends and family we set up the entire wedding ourselves, from the hay bales at the ceremony to the rosemary threaded through our place cards and at times it felt like the busyness of it all would overwhelm us! So, to anyone planning or organizing their own wedding, we would say: try to absorb every moment, whether it is stressful or not, take a big breath and just enjoy it all because it really does go by so quickly!

We were also told by married friends before our wedding to take a moment out on the day just the two of us and look back on friends and family enjoying themselves and really take it all in. It was raining by the time we did this but we stood under an umbrella outside the marquee and just watched everyone dancing their socks off, it was amazing.

From the moment we got engaged we knew we wanted to get married on Timmy‘s family farm in Marlborough. Not only is it incredibly picturesque and beautiful, it is also a special place for us as we had spent a lot of time there over the years of our relationship. In fact, a year before we got married we actually moved back to the farm from overseas and settled down there, so it felt so right to hold it there. For us, it’s home.

In all our table place cards, we wrote personalized notes to our guests. It was important for us to let everyone know how much they meant to us and why it was so special to have them there with us on our big day. We had 138 guests, so the notes took us a long time to write over several weeks (and bottles of wine) but it was so worth it! We really wanted an opportunity to thank everyone for not only coming to our wedding but for being such amazing supportive people in our lives.

The majority of the food on our menu was sourced straight from the farm itself. All the veggies, the beef, and the lamb came from the farm. Even the goat curry was made from wild goats that roam the edges of the bush. We really wanted to showcase the farm and its incredible produce but also be as self-sufficient and create the least amount of waste as possible. Timmy‘s aunty catered the entire wedding for us, putting together an incredible menu and team of people who worked so hard to make it all happen. We had family-style sharing with big long platters made out of old wine barrels and bowls of veggies and salads to complement the meat. The night ended with a dessert table that people could help themselves from, which had a selection of Marlborough cheeses, fruit paste, mini chocolate yoyos, and Malakoff.

Classic Meets Boho in This Chic El Paso Wedding

May 19, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Understated, sophisticated, bohemian, and classic are all the words we’d use to describe Jessica and Alex’s El Paso wedding! This dynamic couple paid homage to their Mexican culture by using a rainbow of jewel tones, displaying handmade Spanish and English table numbers, and serving Mexican hot chocolate in traditional mugs at the end of the reception. The bride also channeled ’40s Mexican cinema actress style with a chic Rosá Clara ballgown for the ceremony — and then let loose with a sparkly BHLDN dress for the reception. Although the couple’s styles differ, Fawn Events helped them tie them all together into a cohesive look that Jordy B Photo captured in brilliant detail. We are especially smitten with their personal touches of a cigar bar, primping station for the photo booth, and custom neon quote created by Big Media Signs.

The Couple:

Jessica and Alex

The Wedding:

The Church of St. Clement and Private Residence, El Paso, Texas

I wanted to look classic and natural, and most of all, like me. My inspiration was drawn from classic Mexican cinema actresses in the ’40s. The look was chic and effortless. My wedding dress was everything I never knew I wanted! I swore I would never wear a ball gown, but once I slipped into my dress it was over. It was simple, not fussy, and had pockets.

We gave out a few wedding favors. Each place card was handmade out of hand pressed paper with gold foil and hand painted calligraphy. We also served Mexican Hot chocolate towards the end of the night in authentic Mexican clay mugs called jarritos. We wanted to make sure we honored our heritage with touches throughout.

My mom DIYed each table using Spanish clay tiles. She has the best handwriting so she wrote each number in English and Spanish.

This Personal Treehouse Point Wedding is Pure PNW Eye Candy

April 25, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Kelly and Marc are making fairytale wedding dreams come true with their earthy wedding at Treehouse Point. Their ceremony was set deep in the towering woods and included the prettiest natural wood ceremony backdrop, special readings from their family, and emotional moments. The treehouse venue made for a wildly romantic first look and post-ceremony portrait sessions with Just Like Honey, who took full advantage of the golden light and lush surroundings in every shot. The bouquets and table arrangements created by Fab Floral were equally stunning and featured moody red, purple, and pink blooms perfect for a fall wedding in the PNW.

Our wedding consisted of an intimate 33 guests, including our photographer. A few hours before the wedding, we were let onto the property to decorate and set up. My bridesmaids, Marc‘s groomsmen, our immediate family, and great friends were all there setting up. There were chairs to be put out, lanterns to be displayed, flowers and place cards to be set. There was a lot to do, but it was incredible to see all of it come together. Everyone helped, astonished by the surroundings, and were excited just to be there. They influenced and set up our marriage just as they had all our lives; it was poetic.

I have been and always will be a crier. I cry when I’m happy, I cry when I’m overwhelmed, and I cry when there is any beauty or passion in a moment. I knew I was going to be a mess during our ceremony and thought a first look would be when I could get most of the tears out. (I don’t think it helped much to be honest.) Our first look was a moment that I felt overwhelmed with happiness, with passion, and surrounded by beauty. Naturally, there was a full waterfall coming from my eyeballs. There were so much emotion and anticipation from the both of us and to get to share it solely with each other, that is something we will never forget!

I grew up flying to Washington state each year from Houston, and each year I stood amazed at these beautiful towering trees, lush forests, and changing seasons. It was a grand juxtaposition. My dream wedding was always in the Pacific Northwest, but it became reality because Marc is also a great admirer of nature. The encouragement of our families making our wedding day about the celebration of us and our future solidified our decision to get married at a venue meant for fairytales.

This Tulum Beach Wedding was Styled to the Nines by the Wedding Designer Bride

April 13, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

When it was time for wedding designer Adriana of The Creative’s Loft to plan her own wedding, she and her fiancé, Gabe, opted for a wildly romantic Tulum beach wedding on the pristine shores of Mexico. The secluded beach offered the perfect haven for their intimate ceremony, which featured a stunning macrame backdrop the couple has since repurposed into home decor and DIY wands with bells for the dance-party style exit to the cocktail hour. As you can imagine, Adriana styled every inch of the reception, channeling a beautiful beachy vibe with bohemian decor, rustic signage and food/drink bars, vintage photo displays, and elegant floral arrangements. The bride also brought all those same vibes into her bridal look with a flowing Elie Saab gown, lace cape, and minimalist gold and pearl jewelry and hairpiece. Photographer Pablo Laguia didn’t miss a minute and caught so many sweet moments of the couple getting ready together, busting random dance moves, and snuggling among the palm trees and on the beach.

The Couple:

Adriana and Gabe

The Wedding:

Secluded Beach, Tulum, Mexico

As a wedding planner and a bride, my strongest and most personal advice for other couples is to customized your wedding according to your values and what you like the most! Also…decide where your money goes! For us the 3 most important aspects of the day where: photography + video / Overall Decor and Vibe + Venue / Food and Drinks!

I wanted my bridal look to be unique and creative, so I found a dress that combined beach/boho style and still had an elegant touch. It’s a dress from Elie Saab, composed of 2 pieces (a cape and a heart shape simple dress below). The cape was everything! I am a Cape-Lover and could not imagine my day without it! I added some special complements to the dress; a special handmade collection composed by different rings, bracelets and a headpiece from Lia Terni. Earrings a special gift from my mom, from Tous. Shoes by my sister, from one of my favorite shoe designer from my city; Estefania Marco.

Gabe chose to walk the aisle with “Viva la Vida” Version Salsa, from COLD PLAY.
I chose “Color Esperanza” from DIEGO TORRES, as a message to my husband…it means a lot for us what this song states! The Recessional Song we envisioned and wanted to walk the aisle as a married couple with all our beloved ones following us! So we chose GUANTANAMERA…it was PERFECT for that moment. Everyone took the Wedding Wands and started dancing after us! Dope Moment!

We had always envisioned getting married in a secluded spot, in one of our favorite countries. We checked all over the place and finally decided that Mexico is one of the countries we both like the most because of its culture, vibe and beaches. We went a couple of times previously and fell in love with some secluded beaches…we found the one!

One of our favorite parts of planning was all the DIY projects we put together! We designed the following items: wedding wands with bells for the ceremony; happy tears kits; sparkler kits for first dance; menus and place cards; table chargers with various Mexican tile patterns; mini bottles of spicy Mexican sauce; mini can of tea; props for the dance floor; and customized tattoos with our wedding hashtag (#contigoalquintopino).

We had a very creative cocktail hour. We came up with the idea of serving mini tacos combined with mini margaritas “El Patrón”. Capresse Salads in cute cones rather than in a stick, black ceviche mini spoon, etc. We also added some Paletas Mexicanas (popsicles) with super dope flavors; mojito popsicle, piña colada popsicle, perla negra (redbull and jaggermeister), mango with spicy powder, yogurt with fruits, etc. This was a mini cart that we put during the party time! They all loved it!

Nature-Inspired Carmel Valley Wedding at The Holly Farm

March 23, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

By combining their love of nature and their passion for travel, Nicole and Juanjo created the coziest garden celebration at The Holly Farm. These California cuties used the naturally beautiful space to create an unforgettable event that included an intimate ceremony in the center of the secret garden and an outdoor reception tucked away in a pavilion of tropical foliage. Even with an overflow of plants all around, Laughin’ Gal Floral managed to create both a stunning bridal bouquet and eye-catching table runners using large white roses and textured greenery. As a final sweet touch for their guests, who traveled from 14 different countries, the couple hand made custom place cards using antique almanac prints and a typewriter. This wedding was overflowing with incredible details, and we’re thrilled Sun + Life Photography was there to capture it all!

The Couple:

Nicole and Juanjo

The Wedding:

The Holly Farm, Carmel Valley, California

The most important thing for us was to find a place that allowed us to get in touch with nature. We wanted to get married outdoors and in a beautiful setting. Since we both moved out to California, we’ve fallen in love with the beauty of the state, and we wanted to be able to have that be a key part of the day.

Given how far everyone traveled to get to our wedding, we decided to incorporate travel into the wedding place cards. We bought a few older maps at the Alameda Antique Fair, cut out meaningful locations for everyone, and used an antique typewriter and card stock paper to add their names.

We gifted everyone hand-poured soy candles from Riles and co. Keeping with the natural theme, we wanted to allow our guests to take home some of the amazing setting, so we designed a scent that captured the local flora and have those out.

The whole day was memorable, having friends and family travel from thousands of miles away to be with us was incredible. Most memorable though would probably be the dancing at the reception. We had been worried that because there were so many guests that didn’t know each other, that it may be weird, but everyone came together and danced together and even tossed us in the air together!

Floral Design – Laughin’ Gal Floral

Make your wedding day ‘you’ and share things that show the two of you as a couple. We didn’t have an official planner but Michelle loves design and decorating and had an image for the wedding day. A planner may have been helpful for some of the last minute details but in the end it all worked out just perfect because it was us.

Everything was amazing! From the venue, decor, photographer to the food and music, it was perfect. We enjoyed the intimate time during our first look – which we did prior to the ceremony which worked out great and helped calm the nerves before the ceremony.

Corey was amazing to work with. We met her several months earlier for engagement photos and knew right away that she was going to be perfect for our day. She made everyone feel so carefree on our day and was always making us laugh. Her ‘in the moment’ approach even made Justin, a typically shy camera guy feel comfortable with everything.

We wanted to share our love story with all of our closest friends and family with an intimate venue and a romantic boho vibe.

The Barrel Room at Jonathan Edwards was perfect and we both love wine.

Michelle loves everything and anything boho. We wanted guests to feel like they were having a romantic dinner in our home. We had lots of things we have in out home. Macrame, fur and gold flatware and accessories.
