The Couple: Veena and Ryan
The Wedding: 4.4.10 – Keeneland Barn – Lexington, Kentucky
What three adjectives that best describe your wedding? Colorful, opulent, fantastical
What inspired your personal wedding style, and how did you incorporate your style and personalities into your big day? I wanted our wedding to aesthetically reflect both Ryan and my cultural identities. I wanted to make sure that no two events (there were a total of 4) looked the same. I chose the rehearsal dinner night where all 350 guests were invited to draw on the whimsical colors, shapes, and textures of my South Asian identity. The wedding ceremony itself was outside and everything was white which was in stark contrast to the lush green surroundings. For the reception, which took place several hours later, my groom and I changed into our traditional American wedding clothes and transformed the Keene Barn into a very traditional American elegant venue. Also, something that we did that our guests loved was specialized artisanal cocktails. We named each cocktail after a member of our family and their hometown. For example, my mom is from Bombay, and we had a cocktail dedicated to her called Bombay Beauty. She loved it.
Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding? I was worried about the whimsical colors of our rehearsal dinner but in the end, this turned out to be my favorite. My advice to future brides is to not be afraid of color and to go for any fantastical vision you might have. Staying traditional and doing something youve seen done before will be boring both for you and for your guests. Our guests all loved the rehearsal dinner night and all the vendors were excited to execute something different as well!
What was your wedding color palette? Rehearsal dinner: Pink, orange, and purple. Wedding ceremony: white and red. Wedding reception: Green, deep purple, and gold.
