Whimsically Minimalist OKC Wedding at the Individual Artists of Oklahoma Gallery

June 11, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Jessika and Patrick put a whimsical twist on their modern wedding at Individual Artists of Oklahoma Gallery. Their one-of-a-kind love called for a one-of-a-kind wedding – especially Jessika’s bridal style! We are obsessed with her floral crown crafted by The Wild Mother, not to mention her gorgeous custom cape by OKC Bridal and Pageant Seamstress. Looking like a queen, Jessika stood next to her groom and the two exchanged custom designed wedding rings designed by Patrick at Naifeh Fine Jewelry – swoon! This Oklahoma City wedding was captured by Rachel Photographs who photographed the day in such a fresh and modern way.

I was very inspired by Solange and Alan Ferguson’s wedding by their elegant and minimal style, to say the least. I was intrigued by her cape. It made me feel like a goddess on my day in all white (even the flowers).

Our first look pictures were our favorites! We took them on top of a rooftop bar called The O Bar in the Ambassador Hotel in Midtown Oklahoma City. The weather was perfect and we were so ecstatic and in awe of each other that it felt like it was just us two. That moment was captured so perfectly.

The best advice we can give is:
1. Whether you know exactly what you want or are one to go with the flow, being flexible is key. You never know what will happen.
2. Think about your guests while planning! It’s not a party if no one is having a great time.
3. Always have one or more people that you can rely on to help you from planning to day of to after party (or clean up). Whether you decide to hire a planner or plan the wedding yourself, extra support always helps!
4. Lastly, be sure to eat all throughout the day of your wedding or have a plate made for you during your reception and make time to eat it. If you don’t, you may not get to eat at all!

The ceremony was unexpectedly the most memorable part for both of us. We were expecting a quick ceremony and then we could party because we just wanted to be married already, but that wasn’t the case. It was a small ceremony that we shared with our close loved ones, our mom’s walked us both down the aisle, and it was filled with emotion and support. We both cried, it was beautiful!

Our photographers, Rachel Photographs, were calm and cool which was just what we both needed on such a wonderful and stressful day. They were professional but still made everyone feel comfortable. They made Patrick and me feel like celebrities!

The Wild Mother worked with me through the creative stages of picking the right florals, holding my hand and walking me through the planning process.

One of our main focuses was to be sure that our guests would have a blast. Also, we wanted to have our family and friends involved as much as they could. I am an only child and Patrick is the youngest, so we wanted to go out with a bang and make everyone let loose and enjoy the celebration.

Blissful Boho Tulum Destination Wedding at Papaya Playa Project

June 11, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Celbi and Gabe’s destination wedding at Papaya Playa Project is blissfully boho in every way. Celbi is rocking a stunning Rue De Seine lace gown that stands apart from her ‘maids in neutral Show Me Your Mumu dresses, not to mention that Celbi is wearing statement earrings of our dreams! These lovebirds celebrated the night away with a Tex Mex dinner from Ginger Catering that reminded them of their home in Texas and finished the night with a geometric wedding cake made by Zaida Marcos. Photographer Brooke Taelor and videographer Take Heart Films beautifully captured the day in a fun and timeless way.

The words that immediately come off the top of my head are “Pure Bliss!” Brooke was so good at directing everyone in a natural and non-posey way. She fit right in with my crew, which made it much easier for our bridal party to act naturally and be comfortable in front of the lens. Her documentary-style of shooting captured every little element and detail of the day. I honestly relive 03.03.18 every time I look back at our photos!

At the beginning of our ceremony, we stopped to light a candle together in remembrance of Gabe‘s father, who passed away just months before the wedding. Knowing that candle was burning throughout the most memorable day of our lives filled our hearts with more joy than we could ever explain.

Having a very strong love for water and beaches, we knew we had to venture off from our hometown in Texas to get what we were wanting. It was important for us both to have elements of water, sand, and the beauty of nature surrounding us on our wedding day. Tulum, Mexico met all three of our requirements, and it was love at first sight!

Patience is key, especially for destination planning! Try to get things done early so you can cross it off the list, and just enjoy being engaged to the love of your life. It goes by so fast!

Our wedding colors were soft, earth tones. I wanted everything to stand out in photos but fit in with the surroundings at the same time.

The venue, Papaya Playa Project, really spoke for itself. It gave us the best of both worlds; beach vibe & jungle vibe. It truly felt like we were in the middle of nowhere, partying in a beach-side jungle. We loved the remoteness and raw beauty that it had to offer for us and our guests. It was a no-brainer!

This Backyard New Brunswick Wedding was Whimsical in White

Get your tissues ready because this New Brunswick wedding is as emotional and heartwarming as they come. To keep their wedding day as intimate as possible, Janelle and Jesse chose the bride’s childhood home as the setting for their late summer backyard wedding. They set up white picnic tables, strung lights and lanterns through the trees, and hung plants that Janelle’s parents had grown specifically for this special day. The overall design was simple but wildly romantic because every detail was personal. After exchanging vows in a tree-covered nook in the backyard, Janelle, Jesse, and Eyekahfoto went back to the couple’s bed & breakfast for a photo session that took an unexpectedly exciting turn when a brood of chickens was let loose on the property! Luckily, their photographer had also scouted out a natural area for a post-wedding shoot so, even though the couple was photobombed in their first portraits, they got to take some relaxed, romantic photos in the forest, as well.

The Couple:

Janelle and Jesse

The Wedding:

Private Residence, New Brunswick, Canada

From the photographer: In early 2017, Janelle & Jesse were expecting their first child but, due to tragic circumstances, lost their Jace Owen Catibog in March 2017, a few months before the wedding. They honored Jace’s memory and had him there in a beautiful wooden urn. The day was full of so much joy and emotions and my time there was truly an emotionally fulfilling one.

We both come from very large families but wanted to have a very intimate and relaxed feeling day. We decided to forego the expensive Toronto venues and give everyone an opportunity to experience Atlantic Canada. I grew up in New Brunswick, in a house up a dirt road surrounded by woods, with one neighbor, and a backyard big enough for both our families and more. To us, it was an easy decision. It was private, intimate, and insanely personal. Now, whenever we visit, we can reminisce the memories of our special day.

For both of us, the most memorable part was the ceremony. The rest of the day seemed like a whirlwind, with certain moments standing out like pieces of a dream. The ceremony is the one part we can both remember in detail. In those moments, everything slowed down and it was just the two of us.

Immediatly after the ceremony, we gathered our family and wedding party for portraits, having to finish with enough time to leave for our own photos and be back in time to keep the night on schedule. However, since our group photos were in the same place as our guests, it was slightly chaotic trying to get all of our shots in while simultaneously having everyone wanting to come up and congratulate us. Once we covered all of the photos, we jumped into the car with our photographers and drove down the road to our Bed & Breakfast.

We had previously scouted out the property and were happy with the scenery, but what we didn’t know was that they had a chicken coop and that in the late afternoon, let the chickens roam free. We were feeling a little overstimulated, to say the least, so when we stepped out and were greeted by dozens of chickens running and squawking towards us, our stress literally floated away. We kicked our shoes off and ran around barefoot in the grass, enjoying our first moments alone together as husband and wife while we giggled with the chickens.

We wanted our wedding to have a very whimsical feel. We didn’t overdo the decorations but chose them wisely. Our guests sat at white, sanded picnic tables on the lawn, decorated with flowers and tree branches picked from the woods that morning. We had lush flower baskets hanging all over that my Mom & Dad watered and grew with love all through the summer. And once the sun went down, we had lantern and string lights in the trees and overhead to light the party.

My husband is Filipino and I’m from Atlantic Canada. We wanted to make sure both sides of our guests got to taste the amazing food they aren’t normally accustomed to. For our guests flying in, we wanted to give them an authentic backyard seafood BBQ. We hired an East Coast catering service who did an amazing spread, from shrimp skewers to mini lobster rolls. For all our East Coasters, my husband’s family prepared traditional Filipino noodles (puncit), spring rolls (lumpia), and BBQ pork skewers. There was so much food that our guests ate the entire night. There were no empty bellies and no leftovers!

Working with Eyekahfoto was a dream! She not only captured the moments but the feelings and emotions, as well. She made everything seem so natural and, in turn, we got organic and authentic photos. While in New Brunswick, she fell in love with the Hopewell Rocks and asked us to do an unplanned photo shoot a couple of days after the wedding. We were so happy to be able to get dressed up again! It gave us a chance to extend our special day and get some relaxed and “undone” shots in such a beautiful environment. Angie Choi is more than just a photographer — she is a true artist with a special gift.
