Lavish Backyard Wedding With Multiple Days of Events

November 17, 2021 | riley

The pandemic pushed many couples to pivot and adjust their wedding plans–making room for smaller curated guest lists, creative and elegantly served meals, extravagant florals, and more. Couples are now also prioritizing their own outdoor spaces for the big day because it allows more intimate celebrations with fewer restrictions. For Steevie and Nabil, this gave them the freedom to rethink some traditions and focus on crafting an experience that’s reflective of who they are. This is what led to the two-day lavish backyard wedding they’ve always wanted.

The couple’s ceremony on the first day had many beautiful traditional details. Steevie looked radiant in her red and gold Lehenga which she paired with a gold jewelry set that her mother wore 35 years ago for her own wedding. Nabil donned an equally elegant blush Sherwani that complemented his bride’s traditional look. Bespoke Decor created a gorgeous mandap, beautiful bouquets, and aisle decor. The surrounding trees on the property served as the perfect backdrop for these glamorous outfits.

For their American reception, the couple looked timeless and chic–with Steevie in a gorgeous beaded gown and Nabil in a classic suit. The stylish boho glam aesthetic during the smaller, more relaxed party felt true to the couple’s style and personalities. The glistening canopy of lights over the head table completed the ultimate romantic and dreamy feel. Keep on scrolling to get inspired for your big day with these beautiful images by Shari and Mike.

Planning A Lavish Backyard Wedding

I’ve always loved the intimacy of an outdoor wedding. We wanted to ensure our guests felt safe and had enough space to maintain distance from others, so the outdoor space made perfect sense for us. Usually, Indian weddings are quite extravagant and it’s easy to get lost in all the chaos during the week of events. The pandemic really made us see what and who was important for us, and we learned that less is more. I’m so happy we got to enjoy our special day without the mayhem as it really put things in perspective for us.

Embracing Culture And Tradition

I’ll never forget when I looked out the window and saw my husband arrive for the ceremony. We’re from different cultures and seeing him embrace mine with our traditional outfits was the best moment. He looked so adorable!

Pandemic Wedding Planning Tips

Don’t plan anything too far in advance. Your ideas of style and decor might change as you get closer to the day. Just keep an open mind and always have a backup plan if things change quickly.

Working With Shari and Mike

Working with Shari and Mike was amazing! It was a long two days for our wedding and they were so much fun to hang out with. Photography was the most important for us because forty years later great photos will be all we have when we can’t remember anything else.

Classically Elegant Curzon Hall Wedding

November 15, 2021 | Junebug Weddings

Getting married in a 100-year-old castle was a fairytale moment that Grace and Aaron just couldn’t pass up. These two university students didn’t have to travel very far to find their dream venue, either. Located just next to their school, Curzon Hall had the perfect ceremony and reception venue to match their needs—a garden with Romanesque columns and a room with grand chandeliers.

Upside Down Events dressed up the venue’s natural beauty in antique bird baths and Italian urn planters to create their Italian garden wedding theme. Floral designer Miss Floral Studio added dreamy floral arrangements of roses, baby’s breath, and calla lilies throughout the venue.

Photographer and videographer Salt Atelier captured every element and tear-jerking moment of this elegant Curzon Hall wedding. If you’re looking for a fairytale wedding inspiration, you’ll want to save this wedding to your Pinterest boards.

Creating Their Dream Wedding

Our venue is a specific classical and elegant castle. It boosted both our ceremony and reception vibes to another level. Our wedding planner offered fantastic venue design and decoration. We had an excellent wedding host who helped create a well-organized structure and wedding process. We’re so proud that everything ran smoothly and felt warm and happy.

The Happiest Moment of Their Lives

The most memorable moment of the day was reading our vows to each other. After we exchanged our vows and rings, both of us were so immersed in the emotion of it all. Aaron actually cried when we stepped out of our ceremony venue.

Wedding Advice From the Nearlyweds

We have three pieces of advice. The first is to hire a good wedding coordinator. They’ll not only help the wedding go smoothly but can create an atmosphere to boost the wedding vibes. The second piece of advice is don’t be scared to share all your ideas and concerns with your wedding vendors. They are here to help you. Our final piece of advice is that solid communication is an effective tool and will help with your budget control.

Having An Elegant Curzon Hall Wedding

Both of us are students at Macquarie University, which is located next to the wedding venue. Having our wedding at the Curzon Hall helped make great memories, and it was so close that most of our friends were easily able to attend.

Meaningful Wedding Favors

Each guest received a small gift box from us that we packed ourselves. On the bottom of the box, we used golden paper thread to create a nest with chocolates and hand soap. The dark chocolates signify our sweet love and the soap represents pure love.

Magical Big Husky Lodge Winter Wedding

November 14, 2021 | kailey

Bonnie and Jen wanted a nontraditional day that authentically represented their love for family, furry friends, and each other. And from the unique fur fashion to the evening fire display, that’s exactly what they got. By dropping all traditional expectations they were able to prioritize the wedding day elements that were important to them.

Big Husky Lodge—a cozy holiday rental in Scotland—was the perfect small, intimate wedding location. It allowed the couple to fully personalize the space and incorporate meaningful DIY decor. This included the bouquet flowers made from book pages and the handmade centerpieces that doubled as thank you gifts at the end of the night.

Junebug member and photographer Nikki Leadbetter Photography beautifully captured images that prove a wedding doesn’t have to be expensive or traditional for it to be show-stopping. If you’re in search of inspiration you haven’t seen plastered all over Pinterest, look no further.

Photographer’s Thoughts On This Big Husky Lodge Wedding

I was so excited to shoot this wedding, as the Big Husky Lodge is such a magical place in the winter months. As we ventured into the woods after the ceremony, it started to snow—creating the most romantic winter wonderland vibe. There were so many special touches in the day, showing that you can create a real sense of individuality without a large budget. The flowers were made out of book pages and Jen put her entire outfit together herself after trawling the internet for inspiration and creative tips and tricks!

Planning A Day Authentically Yours

The most important part of planning was creating a day that was us. We honored who we are and created something that was right for us, rather than being driven by perceived expectations.  We were worried that no one would enjoy our day but people left telling us it was the best wedding they’d ever experienced. We even had one family member tell us privately that he finally understood same sex marriage—when he saw the love we had for each other, he couldn’t understand why anyone would want to stand in the way.

DIY Details Save Money And Add Personality

We did a huge amount of DIY projects when it came to the venue decoration. It was just a holiday home that we rented so we did the entire space ourselves. We rented tables and chairs and laid them out around the space, we moved couches, hung fairy lights—you name it! Bonnie also handmade our centerpieces, which were wood and resin lazy susan platters for each table, which became gifts at the end of the wedding.

The Impact Weather Can Have On Your Big Day

The one thing we were most grateful for was the weather! When we woke up that morning the weather was beautiful with bright blue skies but we were disappointed to see no snow. As we started to get ready, a blizzard blew in. Suddenly the idea of being married outside seemed impossible and we were sadly accepting the reality of Plan B. Just as we decided that we had to get married inside, the snow stopped. The wind died and the clouds drifted away to reveal blue skies. In a matter of moments our outdoor winter dream became a reality and we stepped out into the garden to stand in the stone circle surrounded by our friends and family. We couldn’t have asked for more.

Prioritize A Photographer In Your Budget

Whatever the budget, don’t skimp on the wedding photographer and get a videographer too. We were trying so hard to keep costs down because we had so little money to create what we wanted. The photos and the videos will be what stays with you though. These wedding vendors will capture the moments that would otherwise be lost. Invest, interview, and don’t settle. You won’t regret it.

One Venue For Both Your Ceremony And Reception

We wanted a wedding venue that would create the “amazing house party plus vows” feeling with space for everyone. We also didn’t want to have to move between two venues so we needed one that could accommodate everything we had planned. Big Husky Lodge was beautiful, rustic but high end, spacious enough to accommodate everyone with a perfect garden and stone circle. Add to that, it had “husky” in the name and we were sold!

Working With The Photographer

Nikki Leadbetter Photography  is simply the best we could have possibly asked for. She took the time to completely understand our style and what was important to us. She was so personable that she perfectly fit into our wedding group and she felt like one of the guests. It wouldn’t have been the same day without her.
