Elevated and Modern Western Wedding Inspired by the Spirit of the West

January 19, 2026 | justine

Set against a wide-open landscape where desert tones meet mountain views, this styled shoot offers a quieter take on a modern western wedding. Designed and photographed by Junebug vendor Becca Photo, the day balanced clean styling with personal meaning, centered around Thunder, a horse who is very much part of Becca’s life and family.

“I’ve had horses my entire life,” Becca shared. “This particular horse, Thunder, is part of my family, which made the experience even more meaningful. That level of trust and calm is something you can genuinely feel throughout the shoot.”

Rather than leaning into a literal theme, the vision focused on atmosphere and restraint. The goal was to create something editorial while staying outdoors and connected to the setting. Horses weren’t included as a visual detail alone. Their presence slowed the pace of the shoot and influenced how the couple moved, interacted, and experienced the day, shaping the overall feeling in a way that felt unforced.

What We Love About This Modern Western Wedding Inspiration

  • Thunder’s calm presence and the visible trust between him and the couple
  • A color palette drawn from the landscape rather than imposed on it
  • Western references that felt subtle and current, not themed
  • A sunset moment that unfolded naturally
  • Design choices that left space for the setting to remain visible

Incorporating Western Details Without Going Literal

One of the strongest takeaways from this shoot is how restrained the western influence feels. Instead of relying on familiar symbols or overt styling, the design focused on texture, proportion, and mood.

“I wanted to show couples that western-inspired elements can be incorporated in a way that feels current and thoughtful,” Becca explained. “It’s less about a theme and more about the feeling.”

Natural materials, layered linens, and soft draping brought warmth to the design without overpowering it. Even accessories, like western-style hats, were used sparingly, offering inspiration for couples who want subtle references rather than a full commitment to a specific look.

Using Open Space to Shape the Look and Feel of the Day

The openness of the landscape influenced both the styling and the photography. Rolling hills, open sky, and uninterrupted views encouraged a simpler approach that leaned into movement and negative space.

One of Becca’s favorite moments happened as the sun dropped behind the mountains. “Watching the couple interact with Thunder as the light shifted felt completely unhurried,” she said. “Everything came together naturally in those final minutes.”

That slower pacing allowed moments to unfold without being directed, reinforcing the understated confidence of the modern western wedding concept.

Why Clear Direction Matters When Building Your Vendor Team

This styled shoot began with a clear vision planned and directed by Becca, then expanded through collaboration. Each vendor brought their expertise while working toward the same overall goal.

The florist played a key role in shaping the color story and floral direction, while the decor team completed the look with layered tablescapes and flowing draping. From the couple and the cake to the horse and the location, every element supported the others.

“Everything worked hand in hand,” Becca noted. “Each piece mattered, but none of it stood alone.”

Allowing the Location to Influence Design Choices

The location played a major role in shaping the overall color palette. The contrast between the white wedding dress and the warm, earthy tones of the landscape immediately grounded the look. Thunder’s white-and-brown coloring, along with his striking blue eye, became an unexpected part of the visual story.

The tablescape and florals layered in deep burgundy tones, soft greens, ivory creams, and warm candlelight. Texture did much of the work here, adding depth while keeping the focus on the surroundings.

Planning for Weather Challenges in Outdoor Settings

Like many outdoor celebrations, the biggest challenge came from the weather. The day brought steady winds, with gusts strong enough to make draping especially difficult.

“The decor team spent hours anchoring and pinning the drapes so they wouldn’t blow away,” Becca shared. “There was a point where we thought it might not work at all.”

Their persistence paid off. The draping held and became a defining visual element in the final design.

From the Junebug Editors: Outdoor weddings require flexibility. Work with vendors who know how to adapt and build contingency plans into your design.

Creating a Thoughtful Experience From Start to Finish

At its core, this editorial highlights how much impact comes from aligning place, pacing, and design. Becca’s advice for couples looking to recreate a similar feeling is simple but practical: choose a location that works with your vision, and give yourself enough time to be present.

“The backdrop for your ceremony matters so much,” she said. “It’s where you’ll say your vows, take portraits, and gather with family. When that choice works with your palette and textures, everything feels more natural.”

It’s a reminder that a modern western wedding doesn’t need spectacle to leave an impression. With the right setting, thoughtful choices, and space to slow down, the experience—and the images—speak for themselves.

A Corfu Wedding at One of the Most Charming Seaside Churches in Greece

January 17, 2026 | justine

When Alexandra and Tom began talking about their wedding, they kept coming back to the same idea: something timeless and elegant. They loved the look of a classic summer garden celebration but wanted it set against sunshine, sea views, and a sense of escape. That vision came together during their Corfu Wedding, held almost exactly six years after they first met on a weekend away with friends in Salcombe—by pure coincidence, on the very same weekend.

Corfu felt like a natural fit. Alexandra had been visiting the island since she was seven, and in recent years it had become a favorite place for the couple to return to together. With white-and-green florals, soft lilac accents, and a black-tie dress code inspired by old-school James Bond glamour, their wedding blended British elegance with the relaxed beauty of the Greek coast.

What We Love About This Corfu Wedding

  • A seaside ceremony framed simply to let the chapel and water take center stage
  • A speedboat entrance that gave the couple a rare moment alone before the celebration
  • Thoughtful guest comfort, from parasols and hydration stations
  • A black-and-white dance floor overlooking the sea, paired with live music that kept the energy high

Choosing a Destination That Holds Personal Meaning

Alexandra and Tom initially explored getting married in the UK before considering Corfu as a wild card option. One call with planner and Junebug vendor Sally Spencer of Just Married Corfu quickly shifted their plans.

The venues Sally suggested immediately stood out, helping clarify what they wanted their day to feel like. Corfu wasn’t just visually beautiful; it already carried personal history. Alexandra grew up visiting the island, and it had become a place the couple associated with time together, making the decision feel instinctive rather than purely practical.

From the Junebug Editors: A destination wedding feels more personal when the location already has meaning for at least one of you. That emotional connection can guide decisions and make the planning process feel more intentional.

How Referrals Simplified Planning From Abroad

With planning largely done from England, Alexandra and Tom relied heavily on recommendations. Sally’s local knowledge, paired with hours of Instagram research, helped them identify vendors who consistently delivered weddings they admired.

They looked closely at other Corfu weddings, paying attention to recurring suppliers and standout details, then pulled together the elements that resonated most. Trust became the foundation of their planning, especially since they weren’t able to meet vendors or attend tastings ahead of time.

Enhancing a Ceremony Location Without Overstyling It

The ceremony took place outdoors in front of the Ypapanti Church in Gouvia Bay, with the sea stretching out behind it. Rather than competing with the setting, the design focused on subtle structure. A white aisle runner led to four floral columns filled with white and green blooms, framing the chapel without drawing attention away from it.

A string quartet brought a sense of tradition, blending the feel of a classic English wedding with the open-air atmosphere of Corfu. Guests were offered parasols, fans, and a hydration station before the ceremony—one of Tom’s favorite parts of the day, as it gave everyone time to mingle comfortably.

Personalized confetti bags added a playful note to the exit, marking the transition from ceremony to celebration.

Using Dress Code to Set the Tone for the Day

Fashion played a key role in reinforcing the couple’s vision. Guests were asked to dress in black tie with colorful summer dresses, leaning into the James Bond-inspired theme.

The groomsmen wore classic black tux with dark green velvet bow ties, while the bridesmaids selected dresses in varying shades of lilac. Alexandra wore a strapless Jesus Peiro gown in Mikado satin, paired with a full-length veil and her dream white Manolo Blahnik Hangisi shoes.

“Our guests really delivered,” she laughed, though she admitted the groomsmen may still be recovering from wearing black tie in 33-degree heat.

Making a Destination Wedding Feel Easy for Guests

Knowing that traveling to Greece was a big commitment, Alexandra and Tom made guest experience a priority from the start. They hosted a welcome lunch at Apovrado Taverna overlooking the sea, followed by a BBQ and pool party the day after the wedding at Villa Privilege.

“All our guests had to do was arrive,” Alexandra shared. Even the wedding flowers were reused for day two, reinforcing the idea that every detail should be enjoyed beyond the wedding day itself.

Giving Themselves a Pause Before the Party Begins

After the ceremony, Alexandra and Tom traveled to their reception at Villa Melambes by speedboat, crossing the bay together before rejoining their guests. It offered a brief moment to take everything in before the evening unfolded.

As they arrived, a saxophonist played Rolling Stones tracks, immediately setting the mood. Guests welcomed them with cheers before the celebration flowed straight into a champagne tower and cake cutting.

Dinner was served poolside, with long tables arranged in a horseshoe shape around the water to create an intimate layout. Lilac napkins, candles at varying heights, and white-and-green florals tied the design together without overwhelming the space.

Letting Live Music Shape the Reception Atmosphere

As the night went on, the Ricci Project band took over and kept the dance floor full. The bar and dance floor sat on a decked terrace overlooking the sea, complete with a black-and-white floor, fairy lights overhead, and stationery designed by Retro Press.

Late-night gyros, served in personalized wraps, kept the energy going well into the evening and gave guests one last surprise before the night wound down.

Advice for Couples Planning a Destination Wedding

Looking back, Alexandra and Tom acknowledge that planning a wedding abroad comes with added pressure. They only visited Corfu once before the wedding and arrived a week ahead of the day, without tastings or in-person vendor meetings.

Still, they wouldn’t change a thing.

Their advice is simple: work with an experienced planner, lean on referrals, and accept that you won’t control every detail. With the right team in place, even a fully outdoor Corfu Wedding can come together seamlessly—and feel completely worth it.

This Bride’s Vision of a ‘Picnic Elopement in the Wild’ Came to Life in the Dolomites

January 15, 2026 | justine

For Mia and Kosovar, distance has always been part of the story. Long-distance stretches, solo travel, and months apart shaped how they learned to communicate and choose each other. When it came time to marry, a mountain picnic elopement in the Italian Dolomites felt like the most natural way to celebrate their relationship.

They pictured a day that felt classic yet relaxed, refined but open to the unexpected. Instead of a traditional wedding, they planned something that felt closer to a shared adventure than a formal event.

What We Love About This Mountain Picnic Elopement

  • A courthouse ceremony with family in Denmark, followed by private vows in the mountains
  • A DIY picnic designed by Mia, blending elegance with relaxed, cozy details
  • A sunrise first look and vows at Cadini di Misurina, with hikers cheering afterward
  • Turning unexpected rain into an extended coffee break and even better memories

Choosing an Elopement That Fit Their Lifestyle

Mia and Kos first met in 2016 through a shared gym, but their relationship quickly became defined by time apart. Early on, Mia left for a solo backpacking trip through the Philippines and Thailand, often without internet access. During those weeks, Kos wrote daily diary-style messages to her inbox. When Mia finally reconnected and read them all at once, it deepened their connection in a way neither expected.

That same mindset guided how they approached their wedding. Coming from different cultural backgrounds, a large traditional celebration never felt like the right fit. Instead, they focused on creating a mountain picnic elopement that reflected how they actually live their lives together, prioritizing experience over expectation.

Their plan took shape in clear stages. They legally married in Denmark with eight close family members, shared lunch at a botanical garden, then set off on a road trip to the Dolomites for a ceremony just for the two of them. From there, the celebration continued with four weeks of travel through Italy, ending in Sicily.

Using the Walk to Set the Tone for the Ceremony

Mountains have always mattered to both of them, which made Cadini di Misurina an easy choice. Beyond the views, what stood out most was the approach. The narrow walk up to the peak felt like a natural aisle, gradually opening to wide, dramatic scenery.

Standing together on the cliff, they exchanged vows and rings in complete privacy. Mia handmade their vow booklets herself, keeping the moment focused on the words they wanted to share rather than added elements.

Later, they continued celebrating at Cinque Torri, where their picnic, first dance, and quiet pauses happened naturally within the landscape.

Why Having an Area Expert Made Planning Easier

Because the Dolomites were completely new to them, finding the right vendors felt especially important. During their research, they discovered Junebug vendor Shawna Rae Photography, whose experience with elopements in the region immediately stood out.

Shawna helped shape the day from the start, suggesting locations, structuring the timeline, and guiding them through details they wouldn’t have known to plan for on their own. Alongside her husband Harry, who captured video and drone footage, the team felt more like trusted companions than hired vendors.

Shawna also recommended their videographer, Rachel King, which helped everything feel cohesive from the beginning.

Balancing Wedding Style With Outdoor Conditions

Their outfits reflected the balance they wanted for the day. Kos wore a classic black suit with a white shirt and bow tie, finished with a white floral boutonniere made by Mia.

Mia chose a white satin dress with a long train and slit, knowing it would brush against rocks and dirt. She paired it with nude wool stockings and hiking boots, prioritizing comfort and movement while keeping the look clean and understated. Her jewelry featured gold pieces with diamond and pearl details, including a mountain-inspired ring made from melted gold from Kos’ late mother’s jewelry.

Later, during their boat ride at Lago di Braies, Mia changed into her courthouse dress with DIY pearl Nike sneakers.

Staying Flexible When Plans Changed

Rain wasn’t part of the plan, but it arrived during their picnic at Cinque Torri. Instead of pushing through, they paused. Umbrellas came out, coffee breaks stretched a little longer, and the picnic setup waited until the timing felt right.

Their first dance also needed a restart. Dancing in a long dress on uneven ground took a bit of adjusting, but the laughter that came with it quickly became part of the memory.

From sunrise coffee before vows to cheering hikers and Instax photos during the picnic, the day unfolded through moments that couldn’t have been planned and didn’t need to be.

What They’d Tell Couples Considering a Nontraditional Wedding

Mia and Kos wouldn’t change a thing. Looking back, they’re grateful they approached the day with curiosity rather than expectations, allowing it to move at its own pace.

For couples considering a mountain picnic elopement, their advice is simple: focus on each other and stay flexible. There are many ways to celebrate love, and it doesn’t have to look traditional if that doesn’t feel right. Whether it’s exchanging vows on a cliff or sharing pizza in the mountains, the most important part is choosing what fits your life together.

In the end, their wedding wasn’t about following a format. It was about spending the day exactly how they wanted, together, in a place that felt aligned with how they live and love.
