French-American Wedding at Home in Pasadena, CA

August 21, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

You know those weddings that make you want to be BFFs with the couple? Yeah, this is that kind of wedding. Harry and Cris wanted their backyard French-American wedding to feel like one giant celebration where people could relax and let loose. They were intentional in choosing vendors that would bring their vibe and vision to life — The Little Branch created eclectic floral arrangements, the photography duo of Heirlume Photography captured the overflowing joy and many details of the day, West Coast Music kept the celebration going, and Orange Blossom Special Events made sure it all happened without a hitch.

The Couple:

Harry and Cris

The Wedding:

Private Residence, Pasadena, California

We wanted something beautiful, simple and well tailored. As men, we felt there was no way we could one-up the spectacle of a wedding dress so we decided to go with elegant and subtly playful suits. We both love Paul Smith and this is what we picked. We went to the store on Melrose and got the suits that we liked the most. We didn’t want to have matching outfits but rather colors and patterns that were most true to our individual characters.

The most memorable part of the day was the ceremony itself and the family speeches afterwards. We wrote our own vows and had our two best friends give a kind of pre-vow toast right before we spoke. Harry’s sister officiated. It was so personal. Cris’s family doesn’t speak a whole lot of English (they’re French) so we translated each of the speeches before hand and placed individual translations on their seats. The ceremony was also fairly short as we didn’t want to make people sit in the Pasadena evening heat for too long! The family speeches later in the evening continued the same sweet and personal vibe from the ceremony before. The highlight of the night had to be Cris’s mother who wrote a four page speech and delivered all of it in English, which basically brought everyone to tears. She worked on it for over three months in France. It was an incredible moment.

We chose Harry’s parent’s house as the venue for a couple reasons. For one, it was way cheaper and more flexible an option in terms of what companies we could bring into the fold. But equally important was the intimacy and history of the house. Harry’s sister and Indian brother-in-law were married there four years prior in a hybrid Hindu/Catholic ceremony with a huge contingency coming from India and Europe. This time, our wedding would be a gay French/American hybrid with a contingency from France. It only felt appropriate to set another diverse and festive celebration at Harry’s family’s home. It made everyone feel included and welcomed into the family, like a warm safe space of sorts, slightly removed from the outside world. Plus the backyard is big enough to welcome a big crowd.

We did the wedding favors. We got the idea from a little shop in Joshua Tree. We ordered tiny terra cotta pots and filled them with small succulents from the flower market in Downtown LA. It was a lot of fun because everyone in our families helped with the project. We made over 250 of these favors and lots of people took them home.

We wanted the evening to be both relaxed and warm but we also cared about getting the details right. We described it to our planner, Danielle, as wanting an evening of “organized chaos,” where the structure invites a kind of playful harmony and elegance. We wanted guests to be wowed but never uncomfortable with the setting. The vibe should invite a fun sort of messiness where everyone feels cool about spilling wine, dancing with your tie off, and stepping off to the side for a smoke or another cocktail.

Earthy Boho Virginia Wedding in Copper and Gold

August 20, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Anna and Price’s warm and earthy wedding theme in Virginia reflected the warmth radiating throughout their outdoor bohemian ceremony. The couple married on family land that was completely untouched before the wedding. We loved hearing how the bride and groom landscaped for eight months to create their ideal venue. All of the furniture and décor was thrifted by the adventurous couple and the silverware was hand painted painted to embody the warm gold and copper tones. Davin Lindwall captured the emotional and heartfelt family moments, while videographers Revel Weddings caught the surrounding wilderness and dreamy setup of this woodsy wedding.

The Couple:

Anna and Price

The Wedding:

Spirit Wind Retreat Center, Floyd, Virginia

We felt like everything was very “us”. We wanted it to be very family oriented so both of my brothers & my dad were officiants. All of our nieces and nephews walked down the aisle. We pulled bits & pieces of vows we loved to create our own, all of the decor was thrifted.

I’ve always loved the bohemian style and so I knew that was what I was going for with the wedding attire. I actually found my dress at Church Street Bridal in Lynchburg, VA. It’s a ministry where all proceeds go towards helping victims of domestic violence. There I was able to find my dream Pnina Tornai designer dress for $500.

My dad built the structure/chapel we were married under in just a few months, along with a stand alone, outdoor fireplace, with stone from our creek. The land was 100 percent unmanicured so we spent about 8 months landscaping. Our flowers were from a local flower farm, where you pay $10 per bucket, so we spent the day before the wedding picking flowers and making our own bouquets. We built 100 benches (seating two people per bench).

Hands down, my favorite photo was when you could see the back of my veil and my husbands expression when I walked down the aisle. It takes me right back to that moment and brings back all the feels.

We gave out succulents as wedding favors! We just love plants and having an outdoor wedding just kind of called for succulents.

I really wanted copper silverware but with 200 guests, it was quite expensive so we spent days spray painting our silverware handles copper.

Processional & recessional song- Instrumental, Noah & The Whale, First Days of Spring
First dance – Ryan Adams, Wonderwall
Father daughter dance- Louis Armstrong, What a Wonderful World

Our wedding was a long time coming… ten years in the making so I would say, when we walked back up the aisle and had everyone we loved celebrating us and throwing flower petals and lavender at us and then getting a moment to just be together and soak up a totally surreal moment.

This Burnham Grove Estate Wedding Had a Touch of Old Hollywood Glamour

August 20, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Lauren and Luke’s glamorous ceremony at Burnham Grove Estate was a perfect marriage of Australian wilderness and vintage Hollywood. A pallet of warm, romantic wintery colors shaped the theme, featuring pinks and oranges, peaches and deep reds from floral designer Flowers by Fillery to invitations by The Story of Us. We loved how the couple included their ‘fur babies’ in the ceremony as pageboys and had their portraits included in the invitation and table decorations. They even donated to a cat rescue group instead of wedding favors. Photographer Dean Snushall captured the Scottish/Australian celebration and beauty of the estate’s grounds, including the couple embracing in a sudden fog just after sunset.

The Couple:

Lauren and Luke

The Wedding:

Burnham Grove Estate, New South Wales, Australia

We had been engaged for 5 years, Burnham Grove was the first open day my fiancé and I went to together. When we went there he said this is where I want to get married. It had everything we wanted and was simply beautiful and big bonus was they allow dogs to attend. This was something so important to us both.

Luke surprised me on the day with a beautiful Tiffany and Co bracelet. He also wrote me the most beautiful card. After I read it I was more ready than ever to get out there and marry him!

I have always been a lover of a classic vintage look, I love old Hollywood glamour. Basically I just went with what I know and love. My dress was Anna Campbell. I never believed I would have that “this is the one” moment, but when I put on my dress I fell in love. I wanted lace and sparkle, my dress had the right amount of both. I also wore Anna Campbell earrings, they were just enough without being over the top.

My family is Scottish so it was very important to us both to have the bagpipes played on our day. I have played in a pipe band with my Dad, my Uncle, two aunties and my cousin for quite some time.

We didn’t have a wedding party on the day. We had two flower girls who wore Arabella and Rose dresses. They wore white and peach to match the flowers and easy for the girls to dance and have fun in. Our two pageboys, my Godson and ‘fur son’ wore little black tuxedos.

We also wanted to include our pets (fur kids) as much as possible. This was so important to us and we did this by making our dog, Rexxx one of our pageboys on the day. He attended the ceremony and had photos with us, he also made a special appearance on our invitation. We also wanted to somehow include our four cats, so we decided to name our four tables on the day after them. The seating chart had their faces and the tables had photos of them on there for our guests to look at and no doubt have a little giggle at.

We wanted warm romantic colours, deep reds and pinks. I asked for some peach to be thrown in as Luke‘s favourite colour is orange. These were the colours of our flowers on the day and basically we planned everything around that. Our invitations and stationary matched and we tried to keep everything on the day feeling romantic and warm.

Processional: 15 Fathoms Counting by Bring Me The Horizon
Recessional: I Caught Fire by The Used
First Dance: Lucky Ones by Lana Del Rey

Dean came up to me on the dancefloor and asked if he could grab Luke and I for a bit because there was some “sick fog” outside. Luke and I had no idea what to expect, out in the dark, in the fog, with only car headlights lighting the way. We were both just laughing while Dean was taking the photos, its something I will never forget. He gave us a little preview of the photo out there in the dark and even that blew me away. The photos are magical!
