Florals Star In This Upstairs Atlanta Wedding

July 5, 2021 | kailey

Stairway to heaven? More like stairway to an epic Upstairs Atlanta wedding. With breathtaking florals, show-stopping fashion, and the addition of a rose unity ceremony, this love fest was anything but ordinary. With the help of wedding planner Smooth as Butter Weddings, Sarah and Brittany crafted a beautiful, fun-filled celebration. Their wedding was seriously representative of their love for one another.

Food and florals were the couple’s top wedding planning priorities. The result was a feast for the eyes and the stomach. Florist Flaura Botanica dressed the industrial wedding space with jaw-dropping arrangements and an eye-catching, asymmetrical arch. The arch was so beautiful it was repurposed and used as a sweetheart table backdrop

Photographer and Junebug member The Tinsley Co captured every out-of-the-box detail that made this celebration one to remember. Get ready to stuff your face and your Pinterest boards with wedding planning tips and inspiration from Atlanta couple, Sarah and Brittany.

Being Present On Your Wedding Day

After arriving at the venue, we took a few minutes to grab a sneak peek at the ceremony and reception space. Mostly to soak up and witness our vision brought to life. In that moment, we truly had the opportunity to marvel at every detail that we had thought so long and hard about. It allowed for us to have a moment alone—feeling present on our wedding day.

Food, Food, And More Food

One of the most important elements for our wedding was food. This ties back to our desire to create an intimate dinner party vibe. We wanted the food to stand out as something that would be talked about by our guests long after they left our wedding. Endive Catering knocked it out of the park. To say the guests left full—and happy—is an understatement.

Show-Stopping Florals In This Upstairs Atlanta Wedding

Florals hand-down stole the show. Each and every aspect of our wedding was enhanced due to the amazing florals that Flaura Botanica created.

Involving Loved Ones In A Personalized Ceremony

When it came to the role of our officiant, we knew we wanted someone who loved and supported us from the beginning. Having a close friend officiate our ceremony allowed us to personalize the script. It was important to have wording that felt representative of our love for one another.

Unique Rose Unity Ceremony

A personalized and unique aspect of our wedding was the addition of a rose unity ceremony. Roses are an ancient symbol of love and the goal of this ritual was to create a way to express our love. When words fail or when the challenges of life or marriage begin to weigh, one of us is to go out, get a rose, and put it in the special vase used during our ceremony. A great reminder of that moment and the love we felt for one another on our wedding day.

A Dream Team Of Wedding Vendors

The best advice we received was from our photographer, The Tinsley Co. She advised us to think of the vendor-search as if we’re creating our dream team. A team that we trust to bring our vision to life. Through every vendor interview, we thought through not only the vendor’s skill set, but their personality and how they would work collectively with the rest of our team.

Magnificent Fairytale Colony 29 Wedding

The minute you step foot in Palm Springs, it feels like you’ve been transported back to the 50s. Vanessa and Lawrence leaned into those retro vibes for their Colony 29 wedding. With the help of planner Details Darling, the couple transformed the desert oasis into a vintage fairytale. The dreamy hotel was decked out in large floral arrangements and dried palms from Joy of Bloom Florals, mid-century signage, neon lights, and the lovebirds’ signature quote, “I f*cking love you.”

If that wasn’t enough, the couple chose to drive around in a vintage 1962 Thunderbird convertible, have their first dance to “I’ve Got A Crush On You” by Frank Sinatra, and had signature cocktails named after their favorite travel destinations. Talk about leaving no detail untouched.

Thankfully they hired Kaylee Chelsea Photography to beautifully capture every special moment–from an adorable first look to an epic drive off into the sunset. So keep scrolling to see these blast to the past “I do’s.”

The Groom Helped Pick Out The Wedding Dress

I knew I wanted to feel like a princess but also wanted to have a playful feel that would be elegant but fun. What that looked like, I had no idea. I tried on over 40 dresses with my maid of honor but none seemed to be “the one.” Because we were together for over seven years, we both wanted to be involved in each other’s fashion and beauty looks. I invited Lawrence to Kinsley James Couture Bridal to help with dresses. When I came out in my first dress, Lawrence said, “you look like a princess,” and I knew it was “the one.”

Why A Fall Colony 29 Wedding

On October 10, 2020, we said “I f*cking love you” for a lifetime in a desert oasis amongst our closest family and friends. 10/10/20 was an extremely special date since 2020 marked our ten-year anniversary. And Palm Springs was an easy destination choice since we visited it yearly for my birthday. Once the breathtaking Colony 29 doors opened into a secluded, magical, and fairytale-like environment filled with roses, bougainvilleas, cacti, butterflies, hummingbirds, roadrunners, and the most stunning historic artist colony scene, Lawrence looked at me and said, “I think this is it.”

Incorporating Small Personal Details Throughout The Day

Since we met on the Match.com dating site, we decided to use matches for guests to find their seats. Surrounding the matches was a beautiful expression of our love story in white and gold metallic script. “I met my match” sat across from “and I f*cking love you” since Lawrence proposed to me using a jewelry dish reading those same words in gold script.

Iceland is known for its dramatic cliff sides and towering waterfalls, so it’s no surprise that Brigi and Bianka chose it for their seaside elopement when their original plans were canceled. The portraits beautifully captured by Styrmir Kári & Heiðdís Photography are sure to transport you to a magical land far, far away–and what more could you ask for in an elopement? So keep scrolling and get those wedding boards ready because this one is sure to inspire you to plan your own destination “I do’s.”

An Epic Backdrop At The Icelandic Seaside Elopement

The vibes in Iceland are otherworldly. We were in awe of this feeling of freedom and harmony everywhere in nature. We wanted to feel comfortable, so we chose a simple jumper-skirt combo and let the scenery be the focus. It was all very intimate, and we were on our own for most of the places we visited, which was really nice.

Dealing With COVID Wedding Planning Stress

The atmosphere before the wedding was stressful. We had to cancel our wedding in Spain because of COVID, so we decided to elope. But everything was uncertain until the last minute. Our flights were canceled three times–the last being the day before our departure. But once we arrived in Iceland, we forgot about all of that. Eloping was the best decision for us because, in retrospect, we avoided a lot of wedding drama–especially because not all of our family is accepting of same-sex marriage.

Why The Couple Recommends Eloping

It’s so nice to share your moment with the one who truly matters. Don’t spend a fortune on one day. Instead, have a two-week honeymoon in a place where you can really soak up the beauty and the feeling of this new journey beginning together. Having it be just the two of you gives you plenty of freedom and reduces stress immensely.
