Gorgeous Mykonos Destination Micro Wedding

September 26, 2021 | riley

With a passion for traveling, Arene and Michael knew they wanted to tie the knot in a faraway destination that would have their guests feeling like they were on vacation. That’s why the two said “I do” in a gorgeous Mykonos destination micro wedding at 180 Degrees Sunset Bar

Before exchanging vows, the two also hosted their friends and family on a boat ride around the island, proving a multi-day celebration of love is a must in a new destination.

With the help of planner Mykonos Wedding, the couple’s ceremony was simple yet breathtaking, thanks to the natural beauty of the village and sea. And the floral arch backdrop created by Mykonos Flowers was the perfect pop of color, contrasting beautifully with the rich blue hues of the sky and ocean. At the mini reception, the two celebrated by dancing with Greek dancers under the night sky despite a public music ban–you read that right.

So keep scrolling to see the incredible photos captured by Junebug member Magdalene Kourti and get those passports ready because this one is going to have you booking plane tickets ASAP! Opa!

Why A Mykonos Destination Micro Wedding

We wanted to celebrate our marriage with our closest friends and family in a truly beautiful but intimate setting, allowing guests to feel like the wedding was part of a vacation. That was what prompted us to have a destination wedding. We chose to get married on the island of Mykonos, which has extraordinary history and architecture that adds to its beauty. The similarities between Greek and Palestinian cultures made it an easy decision for us.

Incorporating Palestinian Culture Into The Day

I am so happy we could incorporate Palestinian culture into our wedding. We made sure to include tatreez–a unique type of embroidery to our culture–by weaving tatreez into custom wedding coasters, the bridal bouquet wrap, the groom’s pocket square, and the ties worn by our fathers. We also had Palestinian flags on the cake pops! We were fortunate that Greek and Palestinian cultures both feature olives and olive trees, so we had olive branches at every place setting. Our partition from the rest of the restaurant at the reception was also created from olive trees. Our entrance into the reception was with two drummers as part of a traditional Palestinian zaffeh.

Meaningful Wedding Favors

The day before our wedding, we gave out a tote bag with the wedding date and a picture of Greece, including some “mint to be” mint boxes and Mykonos keychain. The bags also had a tag that said “welcome” in English and Arabic. Our coasters were the true wedding favor and were custom-made by a Palestinian artisan, with a heart in the center and each of our initials in Arabic on the edges.

How A Ban On Music Worked Out In Their Favor

Greece had a ban on public music while we were in Mykonos! The ban was put in place during COVID lockdowns, presumably to prevent people from congregating. Translation for us–no DJ at the wedding. The restaurant owner graciously allowed us to let our Greek dancers have three songs, but otherwise, we danced to drums (instruments were allowed) or to our own beats!

Colorful Countryside Elopement Inspiration With Caves

September 25, 2021 | riley

One look at this colorful countryside elopement inspiration shoot and you’ll be transported into a storybook–perfect for all hopeless romantics. Planner and Junebug member The Stars Inside transformed 18th-century Painshill Park–where Bridgerton was filmed–into a wedding venue full of whimsy.

The incredibly unique ceremony backdrop was dressed up with stunning peachy florals arranged by Fig & Flower, and the reception tablescape oozed enchantment set against the remnants of a Gothic abbey. And if the venue alone wasn’t magical enough, the bride donned three different wedding gowns, one of which was accessorized with a colorful floral veil.

Photographer Sara Cooper did a beautiful job of capturing every detail–from a lakeside picnic to portraits in the caves, where the bride’s dress quite literally sparkled in the dark. If you’re looking for a fairytale come true, keep scrolling, because this one is sure to inspire you to host your own whimsical elopement.

The Stars Inside On The Inspiration For The Shoot

We wanted to tell the story of a chic, playful, luxurious wedding that celebrates freedom and hope. It’s a story of adaptability, healing, and unstoppable love: it’s about finding courage, light, and creativity during difficult times, and knowing that the best is very much yet to come. For our styling and palette, we were inspired by the tales of Antheia, the Greek goddess of flowers, swamps, and gardens —and also the Roman goddess of human love and trust.

Uniquely Modern Tropical Wedding

September 23, 2021 | kailey

There’s just something magical about exchanging “I do’s” in faraway places. On top of that magic, you get a wedding and a vacation all in one—much like Ashley and Rob’s modern tropical wedding in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico. With wedding planner SOS Weddings by their side, this couple was able to plan their dream day that had combined a modern, chic feel and a laid-back beachy vibe. It’s really the best of both worlds.

The ceremony venue Viceroy Los Cabos is where modern architecture meets sun and sand—the perfect venue for this wedding, vacation, and party. To frame the already beautiful oceanfront ceremony views, Pina Cate installed an asymmetrical arch filled with tropical flowers and greenery.

You might be thinking it’s hard to top the stunning beach ceremony. But, the reception at Acre Baja—a magical venue set in the middle of a mango orchard—will have you rethinking that. With a tequila shot station, a bride crafted playlist, and a “music sounds better with you” neon sign lighting up the dance floor. There’s only one word to describe this destination reception: epic.

After catching one glimpse of this modern tropical wedding, you’ll be ready to trade your traditional nuptial for an adventurous destination celebration. If you don’t believe us, we’ll let these images by Junebug member Ana Hinojosa do all the talking.

Ana Hinojosa’s Thoughts On This Modern Tropical Wedding

Ashley and Rob’s wedding was full of details and a whole lotta love. Everyone there was fully committed to celebrating their union with them. Ashley’s taste is impeccable and she curated her wedding beautifully by letting every vendor she hired be creative. The concept was minimal and modern with a tropical twist. As I documented their wedding weekend I had a lot to consider and play with. This wedding is super close to my heart because of their fun guests, stunning architecture, color palette, fashion, and all the happy tears.

Destination Wedding Turned Closer To Home Celebration

We originally wanted our wedding in Tulum but the logistics of having all our guests arrive and stay there was too complicated. So we looked close by in San Jose del Cabo and found amazingly beautiful venues. They had the same vibe we were going for, exceeded our expectations for service, and wowed our guests.

Everything You Need To Know Before Planning Your Wedding

What is our wedding planning advice? That’s a loaded question. First, keep an excel sheet with all your vendors, pricing info, and budget information. Second, look into family-style for your wedding dinner. We did that and it saved us money, was more comfortable, and no one waited for their food. Lastly, try to relax. Slow down, take planning breaks, and make sure you have an organized proactive wedding planner.

Working With Photographer Ana Hinojosa

Ana Hinojosa was an absolute dream to work with. She is close in age to us and our friends so from the beginning it felt fun and very comfortable. She truly loves being a photographer and her passion shows in her attitude and her work.

Goodbye Wedding, Hello Party

We wanted to make sure our guests felt like they came to our wedding for a vacation and a big party instead of it feeling like solely our day. It made us so happy seeing our friends and family relax and have an incredible time together.

The Power Of The Reception Playlist

The most memorable part of the day was our dance party for sure! There was nothing better than having our closest friends and family letting loose for hours. It took me six months to create and edit the playlist given to our wedding DJ. The music vibe is key to keep the party going. So I worked on it and would listen to it in the car to make sure it all flowed just right.
