The Three Day Destination Guide to Fort Myers – Islands, Beaches and Neighborhoods

June 20, 2022 | riley

Fort Myers Destination Wedding Celebration
Casa Ybel Beach Resort on Sanibel Island

Planning a destination wedding comes with many considerations, like deciding where guests will stay and how they will be entertained (along with the hope that they will enjoy themselves, too!)  Luckily, when you say “I do” throughout the islands, beaches and neighborhoods of Fort Myers, you’ll have all those things covered. What’s more, it will be a multi-day destination event that both you and your guests will remember fondly for years to come.

Extending A Wedding Celebration Into Three Days

A one-day wedding comes with plenty of work, but a three-day destination wedding won’t actually be much harder to plan. Transforming a one-day wedding starts by looking at the events you’d like to host. Typically, this includes:

  • A welcome dinner — on the day the majority of your guests arrive, host an informal dinner or happy hour at a restaurant like Bayfront Bistro for everyone to meet each other. This gives everyone a chance to gather and connect
  • A daytime activity — similar to the welcome dinner, this is a very informal chance for your group to connect again in an even more casual setting. Plan for this to take place either right before, during, or after lunch. A daytime activity can be anything from picnics to boat outings as a group
  • A cocktail hour — Fort Myers and surrounding areas have many restaurants and al fresco dining options that will give you plenty of options for an informal cocktail hour with guests. Or, better yet, consider a pre-dinner sunset cruise. Then you can move your wedding party to the rehearsal dinner at a restaurant like The Veranda
  • The wedding ceremony — Whether you’re hosting a morning, afternoon, or evening wedding, you’ll have plenty of amazing locations available for your ceremony
  • A morning-after brunch — after a day of celebrations and libations, hosting a brunch before ending your wedding weekend vacation for your guests is the perfect way to spend extra time soaking in the memories from your wedding. Take the time to hear about the ceremony, food, and dance floor from your guests over waffles and mimosas at Old Captiva House

Inviting your guests to a three-day vacation will mean spreading out events but also giving them time to explore the islands, beaches, and neighborhoods of Fort Myers themselves.

Entertaining Your Guests

Other than your main events spread out throughout the three-day celebration, your guests will have plenty of options to entertain themselves. The greater Fort Myers area has over 50 miles of white-sand beaches, natural islands, and unobstructed views of jaw-dropping sunsets. The gorgeous and naturally preserved environment is filled with captivating wildlife that your guests will be thrilled to see and interact with.

There are also plenty of activities for them to take advantage of easy access to the water. If they’re adventurous, they can kayak, standup paddleboard, jet ski, or parasail. If they prefer not to get wet, they can go island hopping, fishing, and try shell collecting on the beach. Or, they can spend time truly relaxing in a spa. There’s truly something for everyone in and around Fort Myers.

Where To Host a Three-Day Wedding

The events to host a three-day wedding weekend are as important as the locations themselves. Fort Myers’ islands, beaches and neighborhoods offer some amazing options for your main events.

Ceremony Locations

Check out their beachfront locales like Sanibel Island for incredible seclusion, white-sand beaches, and plenty of space that you just can’t get at other destinations. There are also many romantic gardens around the area that will serve as a natural, dreamy backdrop to your wedding ceremony.

Reception Locations

Fort Myers is home to renowned restaurants, historic buildings, and waterfront hotels like the Pink Shell Beach Resort and Tarpon Lodge. Exchange vows, dip your toes in the water, and then change into your reception outfits. Then spend the evening in an air-conditioned paradise. That air-conditioning is especially great while you’re hitting the dance floor.

Guest Accommodations

Encourage your guests to take advantage of the location by setting up room blocks at gorgeous waterfront hotels in and around Fort Myers. These stunning resorts are a great place to start:

  • South Seas Island Resort
  • Diamondhead Beach Resort
  • Sundial Beach Resort and Spa
  • Marriott Sanibel Harbor Resort and Spa

Whimsical Retro-Inspired Wedding Shoot

June 19, 2022 | riley

Equal parts colorful and quirky, playful and free-spirited—this retro-inspired wedding shoot takes whimsical elements and bold accents to a new level. Think bright color palette, statement florals, confetti, and lots of sweet treats. Positively bursting with personality, this collaboration between Junebug member Julia Garcia-Prat Photography, Cat Around Film, and a talented team of vendors was dreamt up to inspire unconventional couples to plan their big day their way.

Choosing an industrial loft as the perfect blank canvas, the team created different spaces for a fun celebration. For the ceremony, gorgeous florals created by Atelier Floral and a pink neon heart sign acted as the backdrop. Meanwhile, a romantic tablescape filled with candles set the mood for a romantic reception for two. Not to mention the stand-out addition to the festivities–a stylishly bespoke cocktail bar.

From the fashion-forward wedding attire to the artsy watercolor cake—these photos are serving us some major inspo. Keep scrolling to see the details up close!

The Show-Stopping Modern Wedding Fashion

We chose a gorgeous wedding dress from Wtoo by Watters that was anything but ordinary. The dress with puffy sleeves is the perfect combination of style, comfort, and femininity. It was the perfect dress for our modern bride. And to complete the look, we paired a minimalist hairstyle, daring makeup with a touch of pink on the eyelids, retro heart-shaped glasses, and sneakers to bring out the bride’s bubbly personality.  As for the groom, we combined a striped suit with a vibrantly colored handkerchief to tie into the color palette of the styled shoot. To take it a step further, we added a beautiful charm chain to the groom to add whimsy and white sneakers to keep the look casual and youthful.

Why An Industrial Loft Studio Was The Perfect Blank Canvas For This Retro-Inspired Wedding Shoot

Our team wanted to inspire unconventional couples by showing them exactly what they could look like with this creative photo shoot. We found that using a space like this industrial loft gave us more freedom to achieve a modern, urban, and fun look, rather than celebrating in a traditional ballroom. We had the freedom to create the spaces desired for the celebration—from the ceremony to the cocktail bar. The large open space made the decor pop creating a festive atmosphere. The vibrant colors of the beautiful floral arrangements, stationery, accessories, and heart-shaped neon sign contributed to the kitschy romance look we were going for.

Stunning Neutral-Toned Wedding With Amazing Energy

June 18, 2022 | riley

From the very start of their wedding planning journey, Sherilyn and Justin wanted to break away from the norm by incorporating personal and unexpected touches. Little did they know that a global pandemic would push their dream celebrations back three years. But their celebration was definitely well worth the wait. From their warehouse-type venue and chic fashion to the ultra-fun vibe—their neutral-toned wedding was anything but cookie-cutter.

With its floor-to-ceiling windows, white walls, and vaulted ceilings—JULEP was the perfect blank canvas for their sleek aesthetic. Their ceremony featured acrylic chairs, a petal-lined aisle, and statement florals strategically placed on geometric gold stands against a white backdrop. The same set was repurposed for the sweetheart table as the space was flipped to a modern ethereal reception. They turned up the romance with tablescapes of pillar candles in glass cylinders and towering centerpieces created by AHR Florals.

Just when you think that the stunning aesthetic and the amazing energy are unmatched, the couple’s runway-level fashion stands out. The pair changed into a second look for an all-night dance party. The groom donned a gray ombre barong while the bride looked glam in an oversized beaded jacket and sparkly mesh pants. From the theatrical entrances to the fun dance routines—Junebug member Ash Gabes Photography beautifully captured the energy and excitement of their special day.

Junebug Member Ash Gabes Photography’s Thoughts On This Neutral-Toned Wedding

Sherilyn and Justin are some of the most fun and lively duo I’ve ever worked with—it’s the Bondoc energy for me! The couple and their friends literally would not stop dancing all day. The beautiful community of family and friends that cheered them on really made their hype train go. Their friend was the “Hype Man” for their wedding, which created a lot of funny moments for their grand entrance. The Maid of Honor came in on a unicycle. Again, a very high-energy group. They were great to work with, and not to include any dancing pictures would take away from the entire vibe of the day.

A First Look Three Years In The Making

The most memorable part of the day was seeing each other for the first time at the aisle. After putting our wedding off for almost three years, there’s nothing we looked forward to more than our first look.

Advice From The Couple: Don’t Pressure On Yourself To Have The Perfect Wedding Day

Nobody talks about this enough, but don’t pressure yourself to make your wedding the “best day ever”. Your wedding is only one day out of the thousands you’ll spend together. As a couple, we aren’t super into extravagance or PDA, so our tiny moments outside of the wedding—like going to Target on Sundays and getting our favorite Thai food on a random weeknight—are much more valuable than a single day. We had a blast regardless, but when you’re the one who planned the wedding, it’s hard not to pay attention to the tiny details, like the itinerary being off by ten minutes. Set expectations with yourself, and don’t put too much pressure on yourself.

DIY Signage To Cut Costs

We DIY’d our signage. I used Canva to design the posters, and we used the online Staples Printing Center to get our posters printed. It saved us so much more money than buying something through Etsy. Plus it made things more personal.
