Beautiful And Unconventional Mexico Destination Wedding

November 20, 2021 | riley

With a shared love for travel and historical cities, Paulina and Nathan knew they wanted to say “I do” in a Mexico destination wedding in San Miguel de Allende. After the planners–and Junebug members–at Bougainvillea Weddings showed them Casa Chorro, they knew it was the perfect place to tie the knot and celebrate in a weekend-long celebration with 37 of their loved ones. The two newlyweds fully embraced Mexican culture with colorful seating, churro desserts, and Moravian star lanterns hanging above them as they danced the night away.

Along with the bright and bold decor, Paulina’s dreamy ombre yellow and orange wedding dress paired beautifully with her over-the-top bouquet. Not to mention Nathan looked extra sharp in his custom green blazer that he paired with a turquoise bolo tie that Paulina made herself.

So get those bags packed and ready because this eccentric affair–beautifully captured by Alison Vagnini–will have you booking your next ticket to Mexico!

Why An Unconventional Mexico Destination Wedding

We knew we wanted to be in San Miguel de Allende even though neither of us had been there before. We both love to travel, enjoy historical cities, and love Mexican culture. I am a jeweler, and San Miguel has always been on my list of cool, cultural, artistic places to go, so why not for our wedding? I had seen pictures of all the fun wedding traditions like mojigangas, tequila donkeys, and mariachi bands and I wanted that festive energy. When we began to work with the team at Bougainvillea, they presented available venue options based on the date we wanted. Casa Chorro was the perfect size to accommodate 14 guests for four nights while also being the venue for the wedding events. The house, grounds, and gardens were perfectly suited to host two parties while not feeling like the same thing twice.

Rocking An Orange Wedding Dress

I knew I didn’t want a white wedding dress, but that was about it. I had a hard time finding something that felt “right” and ended up with a simple ivory dress before the elopement. Then, two weeks before, a good and very fashionable friend of mine sent me a dress she had found on Instagram and said, “I think this is the one.” I ordered it, and she was right! One of my sisters somehow found the perfect matching shoes online (on sale for $20 from Cole Haan!). I made an orange sapphire necklace and gold chain necklace and bracelet to match the dress. Another friend of mine taught me how to do simple hair and makeup right before the elopement, so I did my own (well, one of my sisters helped). I kept it all the same for Mexico and did the hair and makeup myself with the help of my sisters again.

An Emotional Vow Renewal

We eloped in August 2020 and we are very private people, so we didn’t want to renew our vows in front of the guests. That said, we knew we wanted to have some sort of casual “ceremony” to commemorate the event and connect with them. There wasn’t anything planned other than walking down a small garden tunnel to all of our guests. Between the music and the build-up of everything, it got emotional quickly. There wasn’t a dry eye in the place. We somehow bumbled our way through, saying some things that I barely remember, but the vibes and energy of that moment will stick with me forever.

A Weekend Long Celebration For The Unconventional Mexico Destination Wedding

Because it was a destination wedding, we wanted the entire weekend to feel like a continuous party. People went through a lot to get down there (tracking down vaccine appointments, childcare, etc.), and we wanted it to feel worth their while. Between the welcome party on Friday night and the fact that almost half the guests were able to stay at the estate with us, I think we were successful! Everyone had fun exploring the town with each other and all were welcome to hang by our pool any time of day. We also had breakfast and lunch served at the house each day so people would wander in and out for that. The whole weekend had a great natural and casual flow to it.

Mt Laguna Micro Wedding With Black Color Palette

November 18, 2021 | Junebug Weddings

When couples are deciding where to get married, it can be hard to find the right place. For Sarah and Onairam, all they knew is that they wanted a location that was scenic and beautiful. Thankfully, their photographer, Junebug member Madeline Barr Photo, knew exactly where to go. On top of having gorgeous views, this couple and their loved ones dressed in all black, which made a great statement on the rocky mountain top.

After a unique unity ceremony, they celebrated their nuptials with a simple picnic table. The picnic table was surrounded by gorgeous DIY floral arrangements, a wedding cake, and a golden sunset, this Mt. Laguna micro wedding proves that you can still create a simple ceremony and make a bold statement.

Simple Yet Meaningful Ceremony

We’re so proud of our whole wedding. We loved the simplicity and meaning that went into everything. My husband and I put a lot of thought into what meant the most to us and it shows.

Making Memories Atop A Mountain

It’s all so memorable to us, it seems like it happened yesterday rather than almost a year ago. The ceremony, pictures, and the heartfelt preparation that went into the whole thing are as important as the memories we made during the day.

Advice for Nearlyweds

Our biggest piece of advice for couples is to avoid planning their wedding based on what other people would want or enjoy. We look back and are so pleased that we did what meant most to us, not what made everyone else happy.

DIYing Their Mt Laguna Micro Wedding

We DIY’d almost everything. My veil was made by my mother and me. We also DIY’d the cake by just buying a plain cake and decorating it ourselves. The table that we put the cake on in the pictures was built by my husband. And we DIY’d my bouquet.

Working With Madeline Barr Photo

I cannot speak highly enough of Madeline Barr Photo. She made the whole process so heartfelt and comfortable. The pictures were everything I wanted and more. She put so much effort in from beginning to end.

Lavish Backyard Wedding With Multiple Days of Events

November 17, 2021 | riley

The pandemic pushed many couples to pivot and adjust their wedding plans–making room for smaller curated guest lists, creative and elegantly served meals, extravagant florals, and more. Couples are now also prioritizing their own outdoor spaces for the big day because it allows more intimate celebrations with fewer restrictions. For Steevie and Nabil, this gave them the freedom to rethink some traditions and focus on crafting an experience that’s reflective of who they are. This is what led to the two-day lavish backyard wedding they’ve always wanted.

The couple’s ceremony on the first day had many beautiful traditional details. Steevie looked radiant in her red and gold Lehenga which she paired with a gold jewelry set that her mother wore 35 years ago for her own wedding. Nabil donned an equally elegant blush Sherwani that complemented his bride’s traditional look. Bespoke Decor created a gorgeous mandap, beautiful bouquets, and aisle decor. The surrounding trees on the property served as the perfect backdrop for these glamorous outfits.

For their American reception, the couple looked timeless and chic–with Steevie in a gorgeous beaded gown and Nabil in a classic suit. The stylish boho glam aesthetic during the smaller, more relaxed party felt true to the couple’s style and personalities. The glistening canopy of lights over the head table completed the ultimate romantic and dreamy feel. Keep on scrolling to get inspired for your big day with these beautiful images by Shari and Mike.

Planning A Lavish Backyard Wedding

I’ve always loved the intimacy of an outdoor wedding. We wanted to ensure our guests felt safe and had enough space to maintain distance from others, so the outdoor space made perfect sense for us. Usually, Indian weddings are quite extravagant and it’s easy to get lost in all the chaos during the week of events. The pandemic really made us see what and who was important for us, and we learned that less is more. I’m so happy we got to enjoy our special day without the mayhem as it really put things in perspective for us.

Embracing Culture And Tradition

I’ll never forget when I looked out the window and saw my husband arrive for the ceremony. We’re from different cultures and seeing him embrace mine with our traditional outfits was the best moment. He looked so adorable!

Pandemic Wedding Planning Tips

Don’t plan anything too far in advance. Your ideas of style and decor might change as you get closer to the day. Just keep an open mind and always have a backup plan if things change quickly.

Working With Shari and Mike

Working with Shari and Mike was amazing! It was a long two days for our wedding and they were so much fun to hang out with. Photography was the most important for us because forty years later great photos will be all we have when we can’t remember anything else.
