An Elegant Black-Tie Wedding in a Private Houston Garden

February 18, 2026 | justine

Derrick and Josh’s elegant Houston wedding began long before their walk down the aisle. The two matched on Tinder twice, but it was a rainy first date at Buffalo Bayou Park in 2020 that changed everything. What started as a simple walk turned into hours of conversation, takeout dinner at Derrick’s home, and Josh meeting Pebbles, Derrick’s beloved Cocker Spaniel. “We found each other two separate times on Tinder,” they shared. “We realized we came to love not by finding the perfect person, but by learning to see an imperfect person perfectly.”

Four years later, they married on April 27, 2024, surrounded by spring blooms, timeless style, and an atmosphere that felt both polished and welcoming. Inspired by a Tom Ford and James Bond level of sophistication, their celebration unfolded in a private garden at McGovern Centennial Gardens, where black, gold, and striking red roses defined a celebration rooted in intention, style, and deep connection.

What We Love About This Elegant Wedding

  • The black, gold, and red color palette that felt refined yet bold
  • A circular ceremony setup so every guest had a clear view
  • A voiceover telling their love story before the ceremony began
  • A wine box ceremony to open on their first anniversary
  • Guests leaving voicemails on a red phone instead of signing a guest book
  • A late-night cookie truck sendoff that kept the celebration joyful and personal

Turning a Clear Vision Into a Cohesive Wedding Design

Derrick and Josh knew exactly how they wanted their elegant Houston wedding to feel: timeless, tailored, and set in a garden they could return to year after year. They brought this idea to their planner, Darryl Moore of D’Concierge, and trusted his creativity to shape the experience.

“We came to him with the vision and asked him to use his creative expertise,” they shared. Darryl elevated their ideas with thoughtful design choices such as a circular ceremony layout, a custom stage for their vows, and dramatic red rose installations that became one of the visual highlights of the evening.

Building a Vendor Team That Feels Like the Right Fit

Selecting the right vendors was deeply important, especially as two Black gay men who wanted a team that respected and understood them fully. “It was very important for us to work with a planner who related to us, understood our needs, and was completely unbiased,” they explained.

Photography was their top priority, and after discovering Junebug vendor MMartin Productions on Instagram, they felt an instant connection. “We had one phone call and booked the next day. Photography was the single most important thing to us and we hit the jackpot.”

Adding Intention and Personality Into Their Ceremony

Their ceremony included several meaningful elements that reflected their story. It began with a voiceover written by the couple and narrated by their best man, Michael, setting the tone and sharing their journey with guests.

They exchanged personal vows and sealed a wine box containing one of their favorite red wines to open on their first anniversary. The circular ceremony layout ensured every guest could witness the moment, accompanied by a live string quartet performing their chosen music.

Creating a Cohesive Black-Tie Look With Personal Style

Fashion played a defining role in shaping the tone of their elegant Houston wedding. Both grooms worked with Well Groomed Man to design custom tuxedos that reflected their personalities while maintaining a cohesive look.

Josh chose a classic James Bond style, while Derrick opted for a modern twist with a subtle patterned jacket. Their footwear added personality: Josh wore black Gucci shoes with gold detail, while Derrick chose bold Louboutin shoes with red accents and a gold heel to tie into the wedding palette.

Keeping Guests Engaged Beyond the Ceremony and Reception

After the ceremony, Derrick and Josh broke tradition by joining guests during cocktail hour before the reception began. “We absolutely loved having drinks with our guests prior to the reception,” they shared.

They also captured portraits in the private garden while it was closed to the public, creating some of their favorite images from the day. The celebration extended beyond the wedding with a post-wedding photoshoot at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, a place meaningful to their relationship.

Staying Aligned When Budget and Priorities Shift

Like many couples, Derrick and Josh began planning with a budget that changed as the process unfolded. As their priorities became clearer, they adjusted spending to focus on what truly mattered: hosting, entertaining, and celebrating with loved ones.

“We constantly checked in with each other to make sure we were spending money on the things that mattered most,” they shared. They quickly realized that weddings are not only about details but about the shared experience.

Small Details That Made the Reception Feel Personal

The reception balanced sophistication with warmth. Red roses softened the black-and-gold color palette, while personal elements made the evening unforgettable.

Instead of a traditional guest book, guests left voicemails using a red phone from After the Tone. “We thoroughly enjoyed listening to those messages weeks later.” The recordings allowed loved ones who could not attend, including grandparents, to leave meaningful messages they will treasure forever.

Later in the evening, Tiff’s Treats cookie truck surprised guests with cookies and ice cream, while the couple danced on their custom D&J monogram dance floor and served signature cocktails created just for the celebration.

Handling Wedding-Day Surprises With Perspective

Even the most thoughtfully planned weddings come with a few unexpected moments. For Derrick and Josh, sudden wind gusts affected their champagne wall setup, but they chose to stay present and focused on what truly mattered: celebrating with the people they love.

“At the end of the day, they are the little details and don’t matter,” they shared. Their guests were enjoying cocktails, conversation, and the celebration itself.

Looking back, Derrick and Josh encourage couples to focus less on perfection and more on preparation and trust. Choosing the right planner and vendors, they say, makes all the difference. “Interview and do your research regarding planners and vendors. Also, be prepared for some things to not go as planned—and that’s ok.”

How Couples Are Using Wedding QR Codes for Photos, RSVPs & Guestbooks (2026 Guide)

There are a few familiar stress points couples encounter during and after wedding planning.

You text your cousin three times to confirm whether she’s actually coming.
You spend two weeks after the wedding chasing blurry photos from group chats that auto-delete.
Your guestbook ends up with 40 variations of “Congratulations!” and one phone number scribbled by accident.

But those don’t have to be part of your story.

Couples are swapping out scattered tools, paper cards, and post-wedding detective work for one thing: a wedding QR code. Guests scan it, and everything opens up. Photo uploads, RSVPs, voice messages, and seating assignments. All from one scan.

Real data backs the shift. According to The Knot’s 2025 Real Weddings Study, new technologies like AI tools, digital guestbooks, and QR-based experiences are capturing strong interest among couples getting married. And search trends for terms like “qr code for wedding pictures” and “audio guestbook wedding confirm the momentum is only growing.

Platforms like Wedibox (which has supported over 100,000 weddings) have seen the pattern up close. When couples bring all of their guest touchpoints into a single QR code, the day runs more smoothly.

This guide breaks down exactly how couples are utilizing QR codes in 2026. Real use cases. Real numbers. Below are tips you can act on, whether your wedding is six months or six weeks away.

Why Wedding QR Codes Are Replacing Traditional Tools in 2026

This isn’t about chasing a trend. It’s about fixing a system that has been broken for years. Couples planning 2026 weddings keep bumping into the same headaches, and QR codes solve most of them in one step.

Budgets Are Tighter Than Ever

The national average wedding cost is $33,000 according to The Knot, with Zola’s 2025 data projecting closer to $36,000. Paying for an RSVP platform, a photo sharing app, a guestbook service, and a seating tool separately adds up fast. An all in one QR code platform pulls those tools into a single dashboard. That means less money spent and less stress on your plate.

Guest Lists Span Generations

Your 28-year-old coworkers and your 75-year-old grandmother are both on the invite list. Asking guests to download an app often creates friction—especially for older attendees. Browser-based QR codes eliminate that barrier. Guests simply scan with their phone camera and land on a mobile-friendly page. No app. No account creation. No tech confusion.

Photo Chaos Is Universal

Collecting guest photos is the single most frustrating task couples deal with after the wedding. Shared Google Albums hit storage limits. AirDrop only works between iPhones. Group chats compress everything to thumbnail quality. A QR code for wedding pictures gives every guest one simple place to upload full-resolution images, no matter what phone they use.

RSVPs Become Detective Work

Paper response cards have a notoriously low return rate. According to wedding planning forums on WeddingWire and WeddingBee, 20 to 40 percent of couples end up chasing down guests who never responded. A wedding RSVP QR code turns a weeks-long process into a 30-second scan and tap. That alone can save you hours of follow-up texts.

What the Search Data Actually Shows

The keyword “qr code for wedding pictures” now pulls in over 2,600 monthly searches in the U.S. alone. Related terms like “wedding qr code for photos” (1,600 per month) and “wedding photo sharing app” (1,500 per month) are climbing right alongside it. Reddit’s r/weddingplanning confirms the trend. Posts asking “What’s the best QR code for wedding photos? consistently rank among the sub’s most upvoted threads. The question is no longer “should we?” It’s “which platform is best?”

What to Look for in a Wedding QR Code Platform

Not all QR code tools are built the same. Here are the features that actually make a difference when it comes to guest participation and your overall experience.

  1. Browser-based access, no exceptions. If your platform asks guests to install an app, you will lose a big chunk of participation. The standard in 2026 is scan and go. Anything that adds extra steps is a dealbreaker.
  2. All-in-One functionality. Managing photos in one place, RSVPs in another, and guestbooks in a third creates confusion for everyone. Keeping everything under one QR code makes the experience seamless for your guests and easy for you to manage.
  3. Full-resolution storage. Some platforms compress uploads to save on server costs. Make sure your photos and videos are stored and downloadable in their original quality. You will want those files for your album.
  4. Real-time access – You should be able to see RSVP counts, uploads, and guestbook messages the moment they come in—not hours later.
  5. Privacy Controls – Your gallery should be private by default, with optional password protection. Guest uploaded content should only be visible to you unless you choose to share it.
  6. Design Customization – Your QR code and landing page should feel like part of your wedding, not a generic tech form. Custom colors, logos, and fonts help the whole experience feel cohesive with your celebration.

Platforms like Wedibox bring these elements together under one streamlined system, allowing couples to simplify logistics without sacrificing style.

Collecting Guest Photos and Videos Without App Downloads

Think about the last wedding you attended. How many photos did you take? Now think about how many you actually sent to the couple.

That gap is the problem.

Guests capture moments your photographer physically can’t be everywhere for—your dad’s expression during the toast, cousins laughing at the bar, the dance floor at midnight. The challenge isn’t capturing those memories. It’s collecting them.

How QR Code Photo Sharing Works

You create a wedding photo gallery and generate a unique QR code that links to it. Place the code on table cards, signage at the entrance, the bar area, or directly on your invitations. Guests scan with their phone camera and land on a browser-based upload page. Photos and videos upload instantly to your private gallery, and you can see them in real time.

The “no app download” part matters more than you might think. Wedding industry data consistently shows that browser-based QR code tools see 60 to 80 percent guest participation when placed in the right spots. Solutions that require an app download? They typically land between 30 and 40 percent. That is the difference between getting 100 guest photos and getting 400.

Real Example: A 180 Guest Vineyard Wedding

One couple hosted a vineyard reception and placed QR codes on cocktail tables, the bar, and bathroom mirrors. Their DJ mentioned it once during dinner. By the end of the night, guests had uploaded over 500 photos and 40 video clips. All in original quality, organized by event moment, and ready to download the next morning over coffee. The bride later said it captured angles and reactions their photographer physically could not have gotten on their own.

Streamlining RSVPs with a Wedding RSVP QR Code

If photo sharing is the most visible use case, RSVP management may be the most impactful.

Why Paper RSVPs are Falling Short for 2026 Couples

Data from RSVPify’s wedding research shows that only about 80 percent of guests submit their RSVP within 8 weeks of getting their invitation. According to The Knot, the typical “yes” rate falls around 80 percent at the RSVP stage, with many couples spending weeks chasing down the rest. Among guests under 35, the problem gets even worse. Younger invitees are especially likely to forget or put off mailing back a physical card.

On top of that, paper RSVPs come with printing and postage costs for cards that may never come back, weeks of waiting for international mail, handwriting you cannot read, manual data entry into spreadsheets, and multiple rounds of awkward follow-up texts.

How a QR Code RSVP System Actually Works

A wedding RSVP QR code replaces that entire process with a scan-and-tap experience. Guests scan the code on their invitation, land on a mobile-friendly form, and confirm attendance in under 30 seconds. Meal preferences, plus ones, dietary restrictions, and song requests are all captured in one step.

The difference is immediate. You get real-time headcounts so your caterer has a number you can trust. Automated reminders nudge guests who haven’t responded, so you don’t have to send that “just checking in” text. Dietary and accessibility data live in one place instead of being scattered across spreadsheets. And you save money by cutting out response cards and return postage entirely.

Instead of updating three spreadsheets every time someone confirms, Wedibox’s RSVP feature syncs every response to your guest list, seating chart, and dashboard in real time.

The Rise of the Digital Wedding Guest Book

The traditional guestbook often requires guests to line up and write something on the spot. The result? Brief, repetitive messages.

A digital guestbook changes the whole equation. Instead of one physical book that forces guests to line up and write something on the spot, a QR code-linked guestbook lets everyone contribute from their seat, at their own pace, throughout the entire night. The result is a richer, more personal collection of written notes, photos, and voice messages that the couple will actually go back to again and again.

Audio Guestbooks: The Fastest Growing Trend of 2026

Among all the digital guestbook options out there, audio guestbooks are getting the most attention right now. And the reason is obvious once you hear one.

Your best friend’s voice cracking mid-toast, your grandmother singing the blessing she learned from her mother, your college roommate laughing so hard she can’t finish her sentence — these are the moments an audio guestbook captures. Not just words on a page, but real voices and real emotion.

The search data backs it up. “Audio guestbook wedding” has seen explosive year-over-year growth in search volume. The Knot now features dedicated guides to audio guestbook options, and the hashtag #AudioGuestbook regularly pulls in hundreds of thousands of views on TikTok and Instagram Reels.

And unlike vintage phone rentals that typically cost $200 to $600 and require shipping logistics, a phone-based audio guestbook runs entirely from your guests’ own devices. No rental. No setup. No waiting for a package to arrive.

Written Messages Still Matter

Audio is not for everyone. Introverted guests, non native speakers, and anyone standing right next to the DJ’s subwoofer may prefer typing something heartfelt instead. The best digital guestbook platforms let guests choose between written, audio, or even video messages so that everyone can participate in the way that feels most comfortable to them.

Organizing Your Reception with a Wedding Seating Chart QR Code

“Wedding seating chart” pulls in over 7,400 monthly searches in the U.S. That is more than almost any other wedding planning query. And the stress behind those searches is very real.

Escort cards blow away at outdoor venues. Poster boards create traffic jams as 50 guests squint at tiny names from three feet away. And one table change the morning of the wedding means a reprint you simply do not have time for.

A QR code seating chart solves this from both sides. Yours and your guests’.

For you: Table assignments you can drag and drop, last-minute swaps made right from your phone, and automatic updates every time an RSVP comes in — no poster boards, no calligraphy reprints, no panic the morning of.

For guests: Instead of crowding around an escort card table where 150 people jockey for position, each guest simply scans a QR code and sees their table number on their phone. It cuts down on congestion, removes confusion, and keeps everyone flowing smoothly into the reception.

Some couples take it a step further by linking the seating chart QR code to a mini profile of tablemates. This helps guests break the ice before they even sit down. For destination weddings where many guests are meeting for the first time, this small touch makes a big difference.

Bonus tip for large guest lists: Set up two or three seating chart QR code signs at different spots near your entrance. Spread out the traffic and keep the line moving.

A Step-by-Step Guide for Wedding QR Codes

Convinced wedding QR codes are for you? Here’s how to make the idea into reality.

Step 1: Choose an All-in-One Platform. The biggest mistake couples make is cobbling together separate tools for photos, RSVPs, and guestbooks. That means three QR codes, three dashboards, and three chances for your guests to get confused. Platforms like Wedibox put everything under one QR code, so you save time, money, and guest patience.

Step 2: Customize Your QR Code and Landing Page. Your QR code does not need to be a plain black and white square. Most platforms let you adjust colors, shape, and add your logo to match your wedding style. The landing page guests see after scanning should feel like part of your wedding, not a corporate form.

Step 3: Print and Place Strategically. Include QR codes on invitations and save the dates for RSVP collection, welcome signs at the ceremony and reception entrance, table centerpieces or place cards, the bar area and dessert station, and in the restrooms.

Step 4: Test Before the Big Day. Print a sample and test it with multiple phones. iPhones, Androids, and older models. Try scanning under different lighting, too. A code that works great on your desk might struggle under dim reception lighting or when printed too small on a menu card.

One QR Code. Every Guest. Every Moment.

The wedding QR code is not a gimmick. It is the practical answer to problems every 2026 couple faces: scattered photos, unanswered RSVPs, empty guestbooks, and seating chart chaos.

Pull all of those touchpoints into a single scannable code, and you get a guest experience that is smoother, more inclusive, and more memorable. Without adding complexity. Without adding cost. Without asking a single guest to download anything.

The technology is simple. The impact is real. And the memories it helps you hold onto (the candid shots, the tearful voice messages, the hilarious late-night guestbook entries) are the ones you will reach for when you want to relive the day.

One code. Every guest. Every moment. Collected and preserved while you are busy celebrating.

This Chic Sicilian Destination Wedding Could Easily Pass for a Fashion Editorial

February 16, 2026 | justine

When Olivia and Micah started planning their Sicilian destination wedding, they weren’t trying to recreate anything they’d seen before. What they wanted was simple but intentional: something timeless, relaxed, and deeply connected to place. Set at the historic seaside Tonnara di Scopello, their multi-day celebration blended classic style, meaningful details, and a guest-first mindset that made the entire weekend feel more like a shared vacation than a traditional wedding.

Their story began unexpectedly. Olivia was scrolling Instagram when a friend posted a photo of Micah and it caught her eye. A few weeks later, the two met at a birthday party, and on June 4, 2019, went on their first date at Justine’s Brasserie in Austin, Texas. Over dinner, they talked about Micah’s years living in New York and Hawaii, Olivia’s love of “too much travel and hobbies,” and their shared outlook on life. “We bonded over a zest for life and new experiences,” Olivia shared, along with the values that mattered most to both of them: family, friendships, and building a meaningful future together.

That same balance of fun and foundation carried through every part of their stunningly chic wedding weekend in Sicily.

What We Love About This Sicilian Destination Wedding

  • A historic seaside venue styled around its natural character
  • A multi-day format that gave guests time to truly relax
  • A music-forward celebration with live bands for every event
  • Fashion that felt editorial but deeply personal
  • Intentional private moments built into a lively reception

Building a Wedding Timeline That Doesn’t Feel Rushed

From the very beginning, Olivia and Micah knew they wanted more than a single-day gathering. “We wanted a destination wedding because of the guest experience we wanted to create,” Olivia said. “A vacation, ample time together, and space to settle in instead of just being at a venue for a few hours.” They booked Tonnara for four days so guests could enjoy the property at their own pace—swimming in the sea, reading with an Aperol spritz at the café, or simply soaking in the scenery. On the wedding day itself, they extended cocktail hour and dinner, shortened speeches and formal dances, and structured the schedule around shared time. “We focused our time together on, well, time together,” Olivia added. To bring everything together, they worked closely with Amuri – Events & Wedding Planner. “Barbara understood our vision and narrative from the beginning,” Olivia said. “We leaned on her to help translate that vision into reality and bring us the right vendors.”

Planning Breaks Without Disrupting the Flow

Instead of doing a first look, Micah surprised Olivia mid-dinner by arranging a private champagne moment overlooking the courtyard. “Weddings are such a whirlwind,” Olivia shared. “It’s hard to grasp every moment and commit it to memory.” That short break gave them space to breathe, reconnect, and fully take in what was happening. “This sweet, intimate moment for just the two of us felt so special,” and became one of their favorite memories of the day.

Working With Existing Architecture Instead of Against It

Instead of reshaping the venue to fit current wedding trends, Olivia and Micah chose to let the location guide their design choices. “We share a love of timeless, curated things,” Olivia explained. “Rather than transform Tonnara to us, we decided to match our style to it and focus on timeless classics with small modern refinements.” They pulled colors directly from the surrounding buildings and coastline, weaving in Sicilian culture through vintage painted carts used for seating arrangements and cake displays, as well as traditional street food during cocktail hour. To keep things feeling current, they layered in modern touches like cascading anthurium bouquets and contemporary floral styling. “The question we kept coming back to was how to balance timeless and classic with innovative and original,” Olivia shared—and that balance became the visual thread tying everything together.

Treating Music as the Backbone of the Weekend

Music wasn’t just a background element, it shaped the energy of the entire celebration. Micah took the lead on researching performers and curating each event’s sound. “Micah loves music and knows how to throw an incredible party,” Olivia shared. The weekend featured a soul band for the welcome party, a quartet for the ceremony, a walking Sicilian band during cocktail hour, a nine-piece live band at the reception, and even a vinyl-spinning DJ from Rome who kept guests dancing until 3 a.m. Coordinating performers from different regions added complexity, but the payoff was worth it. “The music was a hit,” Olivia said, and it gave every part of the weekend its own personality.

Adding Personality to the Ceremony Script

One of the most meaningful ceremony details was having their mutual friend officiate, the same friend who introduced them years earlier and took the original photo of Micah that caught Olivia’s attention. They also wanted the ceremony to reflect their personalities. “We love to laugh and don’t take life too seriously,” Olivia said. Their officiant leaned into that energy by playfully roasting them throughout the ceremony while still weaving in heartfelt moments. The laughter immediately relaxed the crowd and set the tone for a joyful, lighthearted evening.

Fashion Choices That Felt Editorial Without Feeling Costumey

Fashion was one of the most playful parts of planning. “We wanted black tie, classic, and cohesive with the venue, but something unique to us,” Olivia shared. Micah embraced timeless tailoring with a Ralph Lauren Purple Label tux featuring a cream Gregory Barathea Italian linen dinner jacket and black tuxedo trousers. He paired it with a custom Proper Cloth Sea Island white shirt, Tom Ford silk bow tie and cummerbund, and Ace Marks patent wholecut Oxfords. His accessories reflected his love for vintage details, including a 1930s Omega gold watch, Moscot sunglasses, Dolan Bullock vintage onyx cuff links, and a custom-made pearl and gold brooch worn in place of a boutonniere for both himself and his Best Man. “That was something I hadn’t really seen before,” Olivia noted.

Olivia’s look balanced softness, sentiment, and subtle storytelling. She wore the Gabrielle Gown by Helsa Studio as her “something new,” drawn to its clean modern lines and delicate nod to the 1950s with a bow at the back. Her accessories carried deep personal meaning. Her vintage Chanel baroque-style earrings—her “something old”—came from Marla Hurley, a longtime family friend and owner of a luxury consignment boutique in Round Top, Texas. “I’ve known Marla since I was 10,” Olivia shared. “She’s a style icon with the biggest heart and a huge focus on philanthropy.”

Her gold cuff, gifted by her grandmother and originally purchased by her grandfather in the 1970s, became her “something borrowed,” while her pale blue bow in the bouquet completed her “something blue.” For shoes, she kept things delicate and understated with the Winnie Peep Toe heels from Reformation, wanting something that complemented rather than competed with the dress.

Her beauty look followed the same philosophy of quiet intention. “I kept it simple to the point of boring—a low, slicked-back bun with a big black bow,” she said. The final result felt polished, personal, and effortlessly editorial without feeling overdone.

Shop Olivia’s Accessories:

Turning Cocktail Hour Into a Cultural Experience

Cocktail hour became another opportunity to highlight Sicily and the venue’s history. Tonnara began as a tuna fishery in the 13th century, and Olivia and Micah wanted guests to feel that heritage. They set up live food stations by the ocean with freshly prepared calamari, sashimi, and local seafood. “We wanted to create warmth and coziness by having food prepared in front of guests,” Olivia shared. “Food is important in bringing people together—and how people experience your love through food was a central theme for us.”

Spending on What Guests Would Feel and Remember

When it came to budgeting, Olivia and Micah focused on experience first. “We had a general budget in mind, but we gave ourselves a small buffer so we didn’t have to sacrifice something important to either of us,” Olivia explained. Their largest investments were the venue and music. “Those two were the most crucial because they set the tone for how guests feel when they’re at the events,” she said. Photography was another priority. “It was so important to memorialize this for ourselves too.” By concentrating on atmosphere and long-term memories, they avoided getting caught up in details that were secondary.

Adding a Surprise Element to the Reception Meal

One of the most unforgettable moments came during dinner service. After choosing swordfish as the entrée, Olivia noticed chefs gathering excitedly in the courtyard. Moments later, a nine-foot fresh swordfish was brought out, caught that same day just offshore. Guests had even seen it being pulled from the water earlier. The chefs invited Micah to make the first cut before preparing and grilling it on-site. “It just fit so nicely into this relaxed, ocean-to-us vibe we wanted,” Olivia said. The experience turned dinner into a shared moment instead of just another course.

Practical Advice From Planning Abroad

Looking back, Olivia’s most practical advice is simple: convert your cash ahead of time. “Get your cash in the currency you need,” she laughed, recalling a last-minute scramble to exchange dollars into euros before the welcome party. Her bigger takeaway, though, is about presence. “Take a moment for yourselves,” she shared. “You’re not being a bad host. That quiet courtyard moment helped me slow down and really commit things to memory.”
