A Richly Romantic Red Wedding Editorial Set in Italy

February 14, 2026 | justine

Deep red tones, candlelight, and historic architecture come together in this romantic wedding editorial set in Italy. Instead of soft pastels and airy neutrals, the creative direction focused on wine, burgundy, and grape hues to create a mood that feels confident, expressive, and modern.

Set at Villa Bossi near the lake, the concept was intentionally bold. “The idea was rooted in romance, but with a contemporary edge,” Catia Soares Photography shared. “We wanted to move away from predictable softness and explore a richer, more daring version of romantic design.”

What made this project especially meaningful was the team behind it. With half of the vendors traveling from Portugal and the rest based in Italy, this styled shoot became a true collaborative effort.

What We Love About This Romantic Wedding Inspiration:

  • A bold red color palette that feels modern and intentional
  • Candlelight and glass details that add depth without overpowering the design
  • Full, organic florals that bring movement to the tablescape
  • A historic villa setting that grounds the bold styling
  • International collaboration that shaped the final look

Using Bold Color Without Overwhelming Your Design

Color played a major role in shaping the overall feel of the shoot. Deep reds and burgundy tones created warmth and contrast, while candlelight softened the space and added dimension. Glass elements helped reflect light and prevent the palette from feeling too heavy.

Florals were designed to feel natural and loose rather than tightly structured. “We wanted the flowers to feel abundant and organic,” Catia explained, “so the overall look felt sensual, expressive, and full of life.”

For couples, this approach shows how bold color choices, layered textiles, and thoughtful lighting can quickly transform a space without needing overly complicated setups.

Matching the Design Style to the Right Location

Villa Bossi was chosen for both its lakeside location and its architectural character. “The surrounding landscape adds a quiet sense of calm,” Catia shared, “which helped balance the richness of the color palette.”

Inside the villa, aged walls, historic details, and classic interiors influenced the styling and photography. These elements allowed the editorial to feel grounded in the space while still supporting a more dramatic design direction.

Why Team Chemistry Matters in Wedding Planning

This project began with a personal goal: photographing in Italy while building meaningful partnerships with international vendors. With support from Oh Weddings in Portugal, the idea became a shared creative project between Portuguese and Italian teams.

“Seeing the vision come together through a cross-cultural collaboration was the most rewarding part. The creative exchange brought unexpected depth and character to the final result.”

Instead of following a rigid plan, the team relied on open communication and flexibility, allowing the editorial to evolve naturally throughout the process.

Making Smart Adjustments When Plans Change

Not everything went according to plan on shoot day. After setting up the original table design, the team realized the proportions didn’t work within the space.

“We had to dismantle everything and start again from scratch,” Catia explained. “It wasn’t an easy decision, especially with everyone traveling back to Portugal the same day, but that shared commitment made the final result stronger.”

Making that adjustment ensured the styling matched the original vision and worked better with the venue layout.

Practical Styling Advice for Couples Who Want Impact

For couples inspired by this romantic wedding editorial, the biggest takeaway is not to play it too safe. “Don’t be afraid to make bold choices, especially with color and texture,” Catia advised. “Trust your creative team, stay open to adaptation, and remember that atmosphere is built through layered details rather than perfection.”

Fall Wedding at Cavallo Point Lodge with a Golden Gate Bridge Cameo

February 12, 2026 | justine

When Heewon and Jimmy began planning their fall wedding at Cavallo Point Lodge, they weren’t just looking for a scenic backdrop. They wanted a setting that felt personal, reflected their life in San Francisco, and gave their traveling guests a true sense of place—bonus points for a Golden Gate Bridge cameo.

Their story started thanks to mutual friends playing matchmaker. “After we met, we found out we literally lived three blocks away from each other in San Francisco,” Heewon shared. After their first date, she already felt something shift. “I immediately knew I liked this person and wanted to get to know him better.” Jimmy described his realization as slower but steady. “The more we talked and spent time together, the more I saw the compatibility. Heewon’s confidence in us also inspired my own confidence.”

That mix of certainty and ease became the foundation for a wedding day that felt thoughtful without being overly formal, artistic without being rigid, and lively from start to finish.

What We Love About This Cavallo Point Lodge Wedding:

  • A Caravaggio-inspired color palette featuring fruit, florals, and layered fall textures
  • A first look in front of Cavallo’s historic Frank House
  • Golden hour portraits with the Golden Gate Bridge in view
  • An LED dance floor that quickly turned into a playground and party hub
  • A last-song moment that turned into a full encore celebration

Picking a Location That Doubles as an Experience

With friends and family flying in from the East Coast and Korea, Heewon and Jimmy wanted their venue to feel like a destination in itself. After touring several spaces, Cavallo Point Lodge stood out immediately. The sweeping views, proximity to San Francisco, and connection to Marin—where they spend weekends cycling—made it an easy decision.

Once the venue was locked in, the rest of their planning began to take shape around the natural landscape rather than trying to compete with it.

Prioritizing Photography and Guest Experience Early

Photography and food topped their priority list from the beginning. Heewon had long admired Junebug vendor Vivian Chen’s work after seeing it featured years ago. “I told myself that if I ever planned a wedding, I’d want this photographer,” she said. When they realized Vivian was Bay Area–based, it felt like the timing lined up perfectly.

They loved how her images captured not only the celebration, but also the surrounding scenery. “We wanted her to help us capture the natural beauty of the area in and beyond Cavallo Point Lodge.”

As plans grew more complex, they brought on planner Katie Pehrson of 2 the 9s Events to manage logistics and production. That decision allowed them to stay present on the day itself. “She and her team were running the show all day until the very end of the night so we could focus on us and the party,” they shared.

Designing With Art References Instead of Trends

Rather than starting with a trend board, Heewon turned to art for inspiration. Caravaggio’s “Boy with Fruit Basket” became an unexpected design reference, influencing the color story and the use of fruit and floral elements throughout the decor.

Working with floral designer Marissa Zoetewey of The Wild Fleur Co., they focused on enhancing the venue’s natural beauty instead of overpowering it. “Heewon had a vision but didn’t have the technical knowledge on florals to bring it to life.” Marissa helped translate those ideas into arrangements rich in texture and seasonal detail.

One standout moment came when Heewon finally saw the cake florals in person. It ended up being her favorite design detail of the entire day.

Blending Cultural Traditions Into the Ceremony

The ceremony itself centered on two meaningful elements: personal vows and family traditions. Heewon and Jimmy wrote their vows separately without sharing drafts beforehand. “Somehow they played off each other and synchronized as if they were a conversation,” they said.

They also included a traditional Korean bow to their parents, a gesture of gratitude and respect that acknowledged both families and marked the start of their new chapter together.

Creating a Cohesive Look Without Going Overly Formal

Heewon described her bridal style as “classic but modern.” After traveling to Los Angeles to try on gowns, she found her dress at Vivienne Westwood. “When I saw myself in the mirror for the first time, it was an obvious decision.”

She followed a Korean skincare routine leading up to the wedding and worked with Jessica of The Pure Makeup to keep her look natural. “I was terrified makeup was going to transform me into someone unrecognizable, but she really understood what I wanted.”

Jimmy skipped the tux in favor of a dark grey three-piece suit that felt more appropriate for the outdoor setting at Cavallo Point Lodge. Groomsmen wore light grey suits for contrast, while bridesmaids chose cornflower blue lace dresses selected by the matrons of honor.

Handling Last-Minute Logistics Without the Stress Spiral

The day before the wedding came with a reality check. Packing and transporting materials took longer than expected, and the couple arrived late and exhausted at Cavallo Point Lodge. Still, they found a silver lining with a quiet dinner on-site that gave them space to reset and mentally prepare for the weekend.

Earlier gatherings helped set the tone, including a family banquet dinner that brought both families together for the first time, welcome drinks with friends near Union Square, and a rehearsal brunch hosted by their moms.

Creating Breathing Room Before the Reception Starts

One of the most emotional moments happened during their first look in front of the Frank House. “Heewon will always remember the way Jimmy looked at her when he turned around to see her in her dress for the first time.”

Later, during cocktail hour, they slipped away for golden hour portraits while a second shooter captured guest moments. As the ballroom filled, Heewon and Jimmy sat outside together, taking in a brief pause before their grand entrance and the reception ahead.

When the Dance Floor Becomes the Main Event

As planning progressed, lighting, music, and atmosphere became major priorities. Allowing kids at the reception turned out to be a highlight. “When the child guests saw the LED dance floor, they all piled onto it and were rolling around and playing on it all evening,” the couple said.

Their final song, “Opus” by Eric Prydz, carried personal meaning—it played during Jimmy’s New Year’s Eve proposal. When DJ Shazam dropped the track, the dance floor instantly filled. Afterward, guests chanted for another song, leading to a surprise encore of “One More Time” by Daft Punk that kept the energy going.

What They’d Do Again (and What They’d Skip)

Jimmy’s biggest takeaway surprised him. “I didn’t know our wedding would be so much fun. I wish I had invited more people,” he said. He also encouraged couples to treat wedding planning as a shared project that reflects both partners.

Heewon added, “The day goes so fast. Don’t freak out if things run behind schedule.” She even skipped her planned second reception dress so she could stay on the dance floor longer.

Both agreed that involving friends made the weekend more meaningful—from a close friend officiating, to custom watercolor invitations, to guest DJs and impromptu content creation. Those shared contributions turned their celebration at Cavallo Point Lodge into something that felt deeply personal and genuinely fun, not just visually beautiful.

Autumn Personified in an October Wedding at Wolf Creek Ranch

February 10, 2026 | justine

LA and Parker wanted their wedding day to feel like fall brought to life: soft mountain light, muted earth tones, relaxed energy, and a setting that felt grand without feeling stiff. They pictured something casual and comfortable with just enough formality to make it feel special, a rustic-chic atmosphere with a subtle ethereal edge. That vision came together naturally at Wolf Creek Ranch, where wide-open views and crisp October air created the perfect backdrop for a celebration focused on connection, comfort, and joy.

Behind that autumn-forward aesthetic is a love story that started with an unexpected twist. LA and Parker met on Hinge and quickly discovered that LA’s close friends in New Zealand were actually Parker’s twin sister and brother-in-law. They met the very next day and both felt it immediately. “The moment we saw each other, we both knew this was different,” LA shared. Early deep conversations, shared adventures, and life with their two dogs led them to plan a wedding that felt just as meaningful as their relationship.

What We Love About This Wolf Creek Ranch Wedding:

  • A muted fall palette with warm browns, creams, soft neutrals, and subtle reds
  • Florals created by Parker’s mom and twin sister, adding a personal family layer
  • A wildflower coffee table book used as the guest book
  • A ceremony framed by sweeping mountain views
  • A surprise snowstorm that closed out the night

Planning a Relaxed Wedding Without a Full-Time Planner

LA and Parker handled most of the planning themselves with support from family. Later in the process, they brought in a coordinator to manage vendor logistics and keep the timeline running smoothly. “We wanted the day to feel joyful, welcoming, and relaxed,” they shared, which shaped many of their decisions.

Their approach focused on guest comfort and creating a natural flow to the day. Rather than packing in too many elements, they prioritized the experience: time to enjoy the setting, space to connect with loved ones, and a pace that didn’t feel rushed.

Why a Mountain Backdrop Sets the Tone

From the beginning, LA and Parker knew they wanted to get married somewhere that felt calm and expansive. “We had always pictured a mountain setting with wide-open views and a sense of peace,” they said. Choosing Wolf Creek Ranch gave them exactly that. The Wasatch Range created an instant sense of scale while still keeping the ceremony intimate.

Instead of overpowering the scenery, they leaned into it with organic textures, soft florals, and decor that complemented the landscape. Their advice for couples considering outdoor venues is simple: let the setting guide your design choices. When the view is already doing so much visually, you can keep styling thoughtful and intentional without overcomplicating it.

Skipping the First Look for a Ceremony Reveal

LA and Parker chose not to do a first look so they could experience seeing each other for the first time during the ceremony. As LA walked down the aisle, she remembers feeling unexpectedly calm. “Seeing Parker standing there with the mountains behind him brought so much peace,” she shared.

Their nieces and nephews walking down the aisle added another emotional layer, and even the windy conditions became part of the memory rather than a disruption.

Creating Space for a Private Reset After the Ceremony

After family photos, the couple stepped away to the ranch guest house for a few quiet minutes together. It became one of their favorite moments of the day. “We just needed a pause to breathe and really let the ‘we just got married’ feeling sink in.”

Their coordinator brought them hors d’oeuvres, giving them time to recharge before joining the reception. They now recommend this small break to other couples who want a moment to reset before the celebration continues.

Choosing Wedding Attire to Match the Mountain and Fall Setting

LA wanted the wedding fashion to feel timeless, elevated, and comfortable in a mountain setting. She chose a sleek gown with delicate lace details and paired it with a warm suede jacket for portraits. “It felt very ‘me’ and worked perfectly with the autumn setting,” she said. Her hair and makeup stayed soft and glowy to keep the look natural.

Parker wore a rich brown suit that tied into the earthy color palette. Bridesmaids wore taupe and champagne tones, while the groomsmen stayed in coordinated neutral suits. Together, the looks felt cohesive without being overly matched, blending seamlessly with the surroundings.

How Personal Referrals Shaped Their Vendor Team

Many of their vendors came through word-of-mouth recommendations, including Junebug vendor Gabrielle Pellegrino. LA found her in an unexpected way. “I asked a waitress at a local restaurant if she knew any talented wedding photographers, and she told me about Gabby,” she said. “Choosing her was one of the best decisions we made. She captured everything in a way that felt authentic and timeless.”

Their caterer, Off-Premise Catering, also came through family connections and quickly became a guest favorite. LA and Parker focused on working with people who were calm, kind, reliable, and aligned with their romantic, rustic style. Their biggest takeaway: talent matters, but the way vendors show up on the day matters just as much.

Design Choices That Let the Landscape Lead

Hosting their wedding at Wolf Creek Ranch allowed LA and Parker to keep their decor grounded in the natural setting. Wildflower-inspired arrangements, earthy tones, and soft textures created a warm, romantic atmosphere that felt effortless and cohesive.

One of their favorite personal touches was using a wildflower coffee table book as their guest book. Guests left handwritten notes throughout the pages, turning it into a keepsake they’ll treasure long after the wedding. Rentals from Red Poppy Rentals helped bring the overall look together without overpowering the space.

Creating a Dance-Focused Reception Atmosphere

The reception delivered exactly what LA and Parker hoped for: great food, flowing drinks, and nonstop dancing. “The energy was pure joy,” they shared. Everyone stayed on the dance floor, soaking in the celebration from start to finish.

Later that night, a surprise snowstorm rolled in and brought the party to a natural close. Instead of feeling stressful, it added a magical ending to their October celebration and made the night even more memorable.

How They Approached Stress and Expectations

When it came to budgeting, LA and Parker started by deciding what would make the day feel most memorable. Their top priorities were the location, food and drinks, photo and video coverage, florals, and music. “We wanted amazing food and drinks for our guests and photo and video so we could relive it forever,” they shared.

Having clear priorities helped them stay focused and avoid overspending on details that didn’t hold the same emotional weight. For couples planning their own weddings, they recommend deciding early where you want to invest and letting everything else fall into place around that.

Looking back, LA and Parker wouldn’t change much. Their advice for couples planning their own wedding is grounded in perspective. “Stay calm and love hard,” LA said. “Something will go slightly off-script, and that’s okay. Those moments usually become the ones you remember most.”

Their October celebration at Wolf Creek Ranch is proof that thoughtful priorities, personal details, and staying present can turn a beautiful setting into an unforgettable experience.
