Naturally Elegant Burgundy and Cream Estes Park Wedding at The Stanley Hotel

February 11, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

As history buffs and Rocky Mountain lovers, there was no better place for Julian and Robert to start the beginning of their forever than at one of Colorado’s most historic and iconic venues, The Stanley Hotel! Nestled in Estes Park, the epic views and old-world charm of this hotel fit the couple’s understated yet impeccably designed vibe brilliantly. Not only did it offer an intimate indoor space for both the ceremony and reception, but it allowed Julian, Robert, and all their guests to have a true “wedding vacation,” complete with yoga, a ghost tour, and herds of elk! Prisma Events did a phenomenal job planning a magical affair, tying in all the DIY details with the naturally elegant floral designs from The Simple Petal and making it all complement the space perfectly. With so much visual beauty happening, we’ll be eternally grateful that Wild Jasmine Photography was there to capture it all!

The Couple:

Julian and Robert

The Wedding:

The Stanley Hotel, Estes Park, Colorado

“Honest & Magical” was our mantra as we planned our wedding. We really wanted our wedding weekend to reflect our individual styles but also highlight and share the common things we love. We put together thoughtful welcome baskets of all our favorite things for our guests to enjoy throughout the weekend and handed them out during our welcome reception. The following morning we planned a group yoga class to get us centered, stretched, and ready for the family vs. family softball game (which ended up being our favorite activity we planned). We ditched the traditional rehearsal dinner that night and opted to treat our guests to some local BBQ delicacies at our favorite whiskey distillery followed by a spooky late night ghost tour back at The Stanley Hotel. On our wedding day, we woke up to fields of wild elk at our front door and ended the night with a surprise drag show … it was so magical and perfect!

Our families and friends live all over the US, so we knew traveling would be inevitable. Letting our guests make a fun, memorable vacation out of our wedding was really important to us. We wanted our guests to explore the local sights in Estes Park, which ironically was inundated with elk that time of year, or stay in bed if they wanted. So our wedding invitations and website both had a timeline of activities and events that would be occurring throughout our wedding weekend so that our guests had the option of opting in or out and making the vacation they wanted.

We DIY-ed as much as we possibly could from Miami and shipped/flew with everything to Colorado a week before the big day. For décor, I searched in thrift stores and online for brass candle holders and terrariums (for our table numbers) to place on our tablescapes. We repurposed them after our wedding and now have a few macramé hanging terrariums and candle holders sprinkled throughout our home! All the DIY work was truly a labor of love, so much so that I even began my own Etsy account, Yonder Paper Co., to share and continue to make handmade pieces of work.

Our advice: stay authentic, go for the different, and try to be unique. You can get lost out there with all the wedding planning tools you have at our fingertips, from Pinterest to Instagram to bridal magazines and blogs. The best advice we have is to stay honest and focus on a few things that are really important for each of you to have or see at your wedding and make that the priority. Also, lots of candles is always a good idea!

Dreamy DIY Snohomish Wedding at Wildshoot Forest & Farm

February 5, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

We’re having a hard time thinking of anything cozier than Katie and Marc’s wedding day Wildshoot Forest & Farm! This sweet couple spent months collecting and creating nearly every element of their wedding decor with the goal of not only representing the best of their relationship but also the challenges that made them who they were when they said, “I do.” Their entire day was focused on family, friends, and the love that brought everyone together — and the result was just as magical as you can imagine! Despite the rain, their outdoor ceremony and open-air reception in the farmstead were casual and naturally charming, and photographer Anni Graham captured that vibe with all the grace and softness it deserved.

The Couple:

Katie and Marc

The Wedding:

Wildshoot Forest & Farm, Snohomish, Washington

The most important thing for us was keeping our wedding and the atmosphere around it to be true to ourselves and true to the story of our relationship. We intentionally included references to some harder times and some less-than-perfect moments, because that was the reality of story that we had come through to get to the moment of saying “I do.” We also really strove to make the friends and family that were able to come to feel loved and welcomed to celebrate along with us – we wanted to have a big party, and have a ton of fun, not just have everyone staring at us the whole time.

During the ceremony we had anyone who wanted, come up and surround us, lay hands on us, offer blessings, prayers, and encouragements. It was an amazing moment of feeling held and carried by our community – we knew that we weren’t entering this marriage by alone, but with the support of our friends and our families.

Large portions of our wedding and decorations were DIY. Wildshoot Forest & Farm provided a guided forage of the property the day prior for us to gather greenery and florals that we used for a majority of the centerpieces, chandelier, and other decorations. We used old books to create the table runners and collected brown glass bottles to use for centerpieces. We also handmade the table name cards. With the beauty and charm of the venue and an outdoor ceremony, we were able to keep the decorations pretty minimal and simple, which was a huge help in the planning and decorating process.

We spent months beforehand collecting an eclectic variety of coffee mugs from thrift stores, co-workers, friends, and neighbors for guests to use throughout the night and beyond. Upon arrival, we had a table set up with the mugs (and a sign saying “Let your mug choose you”) and guests could choose which mug called out to them.

Our best advice: You probably have more talented and creative people in your life who love you than you realize, don’t be afraid to ask them for help! There’s no way we could have done this by ourselves, nor would it have been as meaningful.

Dazzling and Vibrant Big Island Wedding at Puakea Ranch

January 8, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

Between the bridesmaids’ sparkly dresses and the vibrant tropical florals, this Hawaii wedding at Puakea Ranch was the ultimate combination of classy and casual! Claudia and Nick worked extra hard to make sure their destination wedding felt like a true love fest for their nearest and dearest, treating them to a healthy dose of local flair, stunning views, and personal touches. The bride also pulled out all the stops for her not one but two looks that included a Wtoo ballgown for the ceremony and a white bodysuit with custom sequin skirt for their first dance. From beginning to end, this was the perfect cool and casual island wedding, and Couple Cups could not have captured it more beautifully!

The Couple:

Claudia and Nick

The Wedding:

Puakea Ranch, The Big Island, Hawaii

Our advice: If you’re having a destination wedding, organize a trip there early on to get a lay of the land. It will make everything much easier when organizing from afar!

We wrote our own vows and had a family friend as the celebrant… and had a few family traditions thrown in there. We also had everyone ring cowbells when it was time to kiss the bride!

I’m a huge fan of shiny things, so I had all my bridesmaids choose sequin dresses within a metallic palette. I also had two dresses! The main one that was enormous with a glitzy bodice. I loved how the fabric moved in the many layers of the skirt and how effortless the style was to wear (surprising considering the size of the skirt!). The second one was for our first dance because we had a lot of fancy footwork and I was hyper-aware of the proximity of the pool to the dancefloor and didn’t want to ruin my dress if I ended up in that pool (which I did!). I sewed the bodysuit myself and ordered a white sequin A-line skirt that was custom made to my measurements online. I was torn between the two styles so I’m glad I got to have my cake and eat it too!

With a lot of help from family, we ordered flowers and foliage from a local wholesaler and arranged all the bouquets and decorations ourselves (apart from the Haku and the leis). We ordered a ton of ribbon, the cowbells, name places, and Christmas lights off Amazon and personalized it all.

This Charleston Wedding at William Aiken House was Filled with Italian Flair

December 12, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

We’re traveling to Southern Italy without even needing to leave the U.S. thanks to Lisa and Jeremy’s stunning South Carolina wedding at William Aiken House! Because the bride’s family is from Italy, the couple incorporated a classic Italian feel and wedding traditions into their big day with whimsical flowers and olive branches designed by Stephanie Gibbs Events, an al fresco dinner party with a distinctly European-rustic feel, and tradition favors for their guests. Lisa took our breaths away in her lace-topped Sassi Holford gown and romantic updo, and her girls made laid-back elegance look effortless in neutral Jenny Yoo dresses. The hopeless romantics in us were swept away by every Italian-inspired detail that A Charleston Bride and their entire dream team helped the couple create for their special day, and Sean Money + Elizabeth Fay could not have captured it all more brilliantly!

The Couple:

Lisa and Jeremy

The Wedding:

William Aiken House, Charleston, South Carolina

Our wedding vibe was primarily inspired by Southern Italy where my (bride) parents are from. We wanted to bring Italy and our traditions to Charleston. Having an al fresco dinner under a beautiful lite trellis mixed with loose, colorful flowers, and olive branches, giving the traditional wedding favors (five almonds given as wedding favors to symbolize five wishes for the bride and groom: health, wealth, happiness, fertility, and longevity) as well as dancing the traditional Tarantella, did just that.

Magical, fun-filled, dynamic duo are only some words that come to mind when I talk about my photographers Sean Money and Elizabeth Fay. They have become such great friends that the day of the wedding just seemed to be a big party that they just so happened to have their cameras on them. Sean and Elizabeth truly captured the fun, crazy facial expressions our wedding day brought to us as well as unplanned moments such as trying to feed a taco to Jeremy on our way to take pictures and spilling it on both his tuxedo and my dress. Trying to recreate the champagne tower toast my parents (bride) had 37 years ago on their wedding day and accidentally knocking over the glasses – don’t worry, second times a charm. Moments we will never forget and friendships that will truly last forever.

The best wedding planning advice I have for other couples is, if you can, have some sort of welcome reception or pick a place to meet for after dinner drinks with everyone the night before the wedding. It was so nice for us to catch up with out of town guests and family we haven’t seen in a while the night before and spend the day of the wedding just enjoying the day and not missing out on any moments.

It is impossible to pick one moment that was more memorable than the next but an unplanned moment right before dessert definitely sticks out! Our photographers and videographer stole sparklers for our sparkler exit and told us to follow them. We lit the sparklers and danced, ran around in circles, were spelling words in the air, jumping on each other’s backs – a moment of us getting to enjoy being husband and wife. The photos and videos of these ended up capturing some of my favorite shots!

This Dreams Tulum Destination Wedding Will Take Your Breath Away with Its Neutral Color Palette

November 3, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Tulum has become one of the most popular destinations for beach-loving couples, and this wedding at Dreams Tulum is a picture-perfect example why! The ceremony in the sand, the crystal clear water, the forest feel of the reception space — it’s what beachy, summer wedding dreams are made of! Patty and Jason planned their special day on Cinco de Mayo, which fit the Mexican vibe of their day and gave them the perfect excuse to have a wedding cake pinata at the ceremony. Alongside the personal and whimsical touches, the couple and their talented vendors were also able to create a truly elegant affair that featured lush floral designs created by Cherry Blossom, neutral bridesmaids gowns from Show Me Your Mumu, and a beachy-boho Maggie Sottero wedding gown. Amy Bluestar Photography nailed it in capturing every exciting and elegant moment of this gorgeous Tulum wedding!

The Couple:

Patty and Jason

The Wedding:

Dreams Tulum, Mexico

I wanted to keep my wedding look natural. I loved my wedding dress because it was elegant yet beachy. The dress was semi seethrough on the bottom portion, which made it nice and airy. The bridesmaids were given a few colors that I chose from Show Me Your Mumu and were able to pick whatever color and style they preferred. I wanted them to be comfortable and to be able to reuse whatever dress they chose to purchase. I believe one of the girls even ended up buying her dress somewhere else within the same color palette.

It took some time, but we were set on a destination wedding so that we could spend the most time with our family and friends. Dreams Tulum has the date and time we wanted which made the choice easier for us. We chose May 5th since that was already our anniversary and it also went with the Mexican theme we wanted.

We wanted our guest to be comfortable and entertained during our ceremony. We set up a shoe valet because nobody enjoys feeling sand in their shoes and also had wooden Spanish fans available just in case it was a hot day. Additionally, we had a violinist playing happy, up-tempo songs. It was vital to us that the day be far from generic.

I asked my mother to walk me down the aisle because she has always been my rock. We chose my uncle Martin as the officiant because he has been a huge part of my life and I have nothing but happy memories with him. We wanted to steer clear of the standard ceremony script that has been said countless times. All we told him was that we wanted him to speak from the heart. He spoke honestly about love and about the love Jason and I share.

In addition, we asked my aunt Maria to say a few words. Maria is a very special person in our lives. She has been battling cancer for the past few years and all the while she has remained a source of light for everyone who is lucky enough to know her. She read a poem called, “The Art of Marriage,” by Wilfred Arlan Peterson and gave a short speech that seamlessly tied the poem into words of wisdom, encouragement, and love for us. Needless to say, it was a real tear-jerker.

I consider myself to be pretty simple and wanted to keep my wedding as simple yet elegant as possible. My husband loves the beach so we agreed on a beach ceremony and jungle(ish) reception. At the end of the day the decor and style didn’t matter, it was all about bringing together our friends and family and having a great time!

Because our wedding was a destination wedding we thought it would be nice to give everyone welcome bags. The welcome bags included a welcome letter, the itinerary, and a personalized door hanger all made by Super Netti Things. There were also pool floats for everyone’s drinks, a hangover kit which included Pepto, Advil, band-aids, and handmade coasters. We also gave everyone a waterproof bracelet where they could put their room key in so they wouldn’t lose them. In addition to the welcome bags, we had props galore at the reception. Everyone left with ponchos, sombreros, crowns, led foam sticks, bubble guns or any other prop handed out.

There was a lot of DIY. Luckily, my MOH has a company called Super Netti Things, so she created the welcome sign, seating chart, welcome bags, door hangers, etc. My mother personalized every LED foam stick and sombrero. She also made personalized coasters for the guest to use when they got back home.

We chose to do a buffet style reception with a little bit of everything giving everyone options as to what and when they would like to eat. We also had a piñata to add some more entertainment to the party! Our guests gathered around as myself and Jason took turns trying to break it open. Once it finally opened, everyone (adults and children) raced to get the candy and chocolates. We also had a small cake which I heard was delicious!

Other than marrying the love of my life, I would have to say the most memorable part of the day was being huddled up by our friends and family singing “Sweet Caroline” at the top of our lungs!

This Organic Chic Acre Baja Wedding Showcases Some Seriously Unique Bride and Groom Style

October 21, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

This Cabo wedding at Acre Baja is for the foodies and the fashionistas! Alexandra and Steven took wedding day style to a whole new level with the bride donning not one but two custom capes alongside her Pronovias gown and Gucci shoes and the groom rocking a classic black tux accessorized with a non-traditional Gucci tie and Stetson hat. Their goal was to create a chic, modern, and — most importantly — fun destination celebration, and we think they did just that! With tiny bottles of Mezcal and maracas for each guest, a carefully curated selection of the best foods, and the expert design eye of Bliss Events by Bonnie Chase, they created a one-of-a-kind celebration we’re sure none of their guests will forget! There were so many unbelievably stylish moments, as well as some outrageously fun party moments, and photographer Stefanie Vinsel captured them all brilliantly and harmoniously!

The Couple:

Alexandra and Steven

The Wedding:

Acre Baja, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

My dress was by Pronovias and my shoes were by Gucci. Because I work in the fashion industry, I had to do something to personalize my look. So, I made two separate capes that hooked onto my dress. The ceremony cape was made of silk and extended 5 feet past my dress, and the reception cape was hand-beaded and weighed over 7 pounds!

For us, it was important to be able to spend as much time with our friends and family as we could. We wanted to love, laugh, dance, eat, drink with all of them for more than just our big day. We also wanted them to really get time to know each other better as well. That said, if anyone else feels the same way, a piece of advice would be to have a destination wedding. It almost forces that situation to create itself.

The food and drink were provided by Acre and it was unreal (and that comes from two foodies)! Upon entering the venue, guests were greeted with a choice of welcome cocktails; a tamarind old fashioned and a mezcal cocktail with lime, pineapple, and hibiscus.

After the ceremony, canapes were served by the pool, including quesadillas with squash blossoms and salsa verde, oysters with Michelada, red wine mignonette and soy peppercorn and a chorizo flatbread with cucumber yogurt and pumpkin seed pesto. For dinner, guests were served a family-style menu. We also had a custom lemon rosemary cake with cream cheese frosting and a boysenberry drizzle.

The most memorable part of our wedding, for both of us, was sitting at our sweetheart table and taking it all in. That all our friends and family were there to celebrate the love we share. It was pretty incredible to see so many people there that supported us on our journey.

Classic Meets Bohemian Lakefront Wedding at The Suttle Lodge

If you love autumnal florals, classic decor, and romantic waterfront moments, get ready for Candice and Jim’s wedding at The Suttle Lodge to make your heart swell with happiness! The cozy PNW vibes were strong in their outdoor ceremony, which featured a jaw-dropping floral backdrop created by HART Floral Design. The jewel-tone color palette added both a classic elegance and bohemian charm, and the calligraphed signs and place cards Candice made added the sweetest touch of personalization. We can’t get over how beautiful Candice looked in a delicate lace Lihi Hod gown, which perfectly fit the carefree, woodsy, romantic feel of this wedding. We also love that Jim stayed true to his personal style with a classic blue suit and quirky accessories. From the couple’s sweet first look in the woods to their private canoe ride, photographer Katy Weaver was there to capture every dreamy moment of this Oregon wedding!

The Couple:

Candice and Jim

The Wedding:

The Suttle Lodge, Sisters, Oregon

In planning our wedding, our priority was to host a fun and intimate celebration for our family and friends to enjoy with Jim and I. We made sure to stay at each other’s side the entire time and really be present in this magical time we were so fortunate to have with all of our loved ones.

Jim and I became great friends and fell in love while exploring the Pacific Northwest, especially Oregon. We wanted to host our wedding weekend here and have our family and friends truly experience the beauty and natural landscape that is our outdoor playground. We envisioned our wedding ceremony and reception surrounded by forest. The Suttle Lodge near Sisters, Oregon was one of many venues we considered. Ultimately we chose our venue for its rustic but modern “Wes Anderson” vibe on a breathtaking lakefront. We wanted a venue that could accommodate our entire group for a 3-day party including on-site lodging, restaurant/bar and offer outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, and campfires.

I did not have official bridesmaids but my closest friends formed a bridal tribe. They each wore a long dress (or suit) in different jewel-colored hues. My ladies and gent created a gorgeous rainbow!

Directly after the ceremony, while our guests enjoyed cocktail hour and made their way to the reception, Jim and I snuck away to our cabin for “introvert” time to celebrate this magical occasion and enjoy a cocktail and snacks.

I was set on refining my calligraphy skills so I could create the signage (welcome, bar menu, dinner menu, seating chart) and dinner setting place cards. I also made the wishing tree. It was enjoyable and cathartic, and I think they turned out pretty good!

I surprised Jim with a 1971 cherry red Volkswagon Bus turned rental photo booth. We loved it! We think our guests did, too, based on the wild photos from this night!

This Bohemian Backyard Wedding in Dallas Has Larger Than Life Blooms and Personality

September 15, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

We like big blooms and we cannot lie, which is why we’re totally obsessed with this bohemian backyard wedding in Dallas! Hunter and Grant’s floral-forward designed created by Bella Flora was matched with boho decor and an autumnal color palette that made it equal parts stunning and stylish. This whimsical wedding took place in a non-conventional backyard space owned by their caterer, Food Glorious Food, which allowed the couple to have an entirely outdoor ceremony and a tent-covered reception that Diamond Affairs decorated with blush drapery, large floral installations, lush centerpieces, and boho-inspired gold accents. Grant Daniels Photography was on hand to capture every moment of this wedding, from the couple’s sweet first look to the epic dance party at the end of the night!

The Couple:

Hunter and Grant

The Wedding:

Private Residence, Dallas, Texas

We never wanted to lose sight of what ultimately mattered in our wedding — that we would be coming together as one in Christ. It was so special to be able to get married in front of our families and best friends, but the best part was knowing that we got to wake up the next morning and begin our journey of pursuing God together and cheering each other on in our pursuit of what we individually feel is our unique “calling.”

I went off of what makes me feel most comfortable. I really enjoy the outdoors and flowers, autumn, casual get-togethers, and making people feel at home. The entire wedding had a rustic and earthy feel, inspired by all of that.

Our photographer Grant Daniels is someone we consider a dear friend, so it was so much fun! Grant‘s wife Laine second-shoots for him, and we just love spending time with them. I felt so comfortable with them and thankful that they could document our day with such diligence and skill. They’re wonderful, and we would recommend them 100 times over!

The closer you get to the wedding day, the more precise the decisions become. I was tempted to get irritated or be flippant about certain things, declaring them “unnecessary” or “annoying,” but ultimately, all we needed to do was make the decision and it’d be over and done with. I think we had just gotten to the point of planning for so long that the fact that we were still planning was just driving us a little crazy. If I could go back, I would’ve tried harder to just enjoy it and relax.

Each of the guests received a small lantern (that held their table number) that they were able to take home with them. Out-of-town guests also received a welcome box with our favorite roasted-in-Dallas coffee beans, some popcorn, caramels, chips, and Topo Chico.

We wanted to be outside, and we wanted to have lots of room to dance and eat for our reception. Luckily, the man who owns the catering company we were using was kind enough to offer a plot of land he owns in Dallas behind his home. It’s a meadow surrounded by hedges and trees, enclosed in a residential area. The ceremony was entirely outdoors while we set up a tent for the reception.

These 5 Couples Effortlessly Made Their Large Weddings Feel Small and Intimate

August 16, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

photo by a sea of love

When you think of large weddings, the word “intimate” probably doesn’t come to mind, which is why a lot of couples shy away from them. But, we’re here to tell you, those two things don’t have to be mutually exclusive. These 5 couples proved that you can create an intimate wedding even if your guest list includes 400 people! It’s all about creating heartfelt moments, setting up cozy spaces within your venue, and focusing on the details so that your guests feel welcome and love. If you haven’t already read our ways to craft an intimate wedding even with a large guest list, we highly recommend you start there and then get inspired by these gorgeous, large weddings that felt totally intimate and wildly romantic.

Hannah & Mitchell

It’s no easy feat to create an intimate wedding with a guest list larger than 50 people, but Hannah and Mitchell pulled it off in their Castaway Portland wedding that included 200 of their closest friends and family! They warmed up the industrial ceremony space with rustic aisle markers and an asymmetrical floral backdrop that added a fresh, subtle layer of color to balance out the black chairs and concrete floors. Their reception featured a mix of elegant, linen-covered tables and rustic, farmhouse tables, which gave the space a cozy feel while also providing enough space for guests to move, dance, and enjoy the night. If you can’t get enough of these beautiful details, be sure to check out their full wedding here!

One of the most important parts of our wedding to us was our guests. We opted for a larger wedding of about 200 guests. We feel we are a direct reflection of the amazing community we surround ourselves with, and we wanted our people an intimate part of our wedding. Ensuring our guests were welcomed, comfortable, and had a unique, fun wedding experience was so important to us. We would not be us without them and throwing a party was a way to thank our support system for their unwavering love throughout our lives and kick off this new chapter.

Perlita & Samuel

Perlita and Samuel’s California wedding at Empire Polo Grounds was a true celebration of Mexican culture that was bursting with color and elegance from beginning to end. Although their guest list included 230 people, the feeling of the day was as intimate as could be. By focusing on meaningful details, from the hand-picked clay cups, tiles, and shot glasses from Mexico to the fruit in the floral design, they were able to create a small dinner-party vibe that made each guest feel appreciated and welcome. This wedding is truly exquisite, so be sure to check out every moment here after reading more about it below.

We wanted to make sure our wedding day felt like “us” and wanted all 230 of our guests to have a memorable day. We’re super close to our families and friends, we love to host, and we love a good celebration. It was also super important that our Mexican heritage was represented throughout the day. We incorporated a Mariachi for cocktail hour, Mexican tiles and clay cups that we handpicked in Rosarito, MX, and served both Mexican and American dishes throughout the evening.

Elise & Erik

With 400 people on their guest list, Elise and Erik’s wedding is one of the largest we’ve seen but also one of the most intimate! They transformed 16th Street Station into the Hobbiton party of their dreams. Inspired by the summer party that Bilbo Baggins throws for his 111th birthday, Elise and Erik chose a color-scheme and vibe to carry out through their wedding day. The tables were full of florals, fruits, and vegetables, which filled the space with rich colors. The celebration continued in Hobbit style with a delicious spread of various drinks and dishes for their guests to indulge in. Even though the venue itself was massive and grand, the farm-to-table feel of the tablescapes and cafe lights strung above them gave it the coziest feel. See just how magical the entire day was here!

The most memorable part of the day for both of us was entering into the ceremony and looking out from the stage to see the 400 people who have invested in us, have loved us, and prayed over us. Of course, we had our immediate families there, but we also included on our guest list the baristas that have served us coffee every day for years. It was an amazing moment to look out at the array of guests we had.

Helise & Rizky

Helise and Rizky’s wedding at Khayangan Estate was as epic as they come but also totally intimate and heartfelt. The ceremony took place at the waterfront, where they lined an aisle with white rose petals and had a stunning backdrop covered in the pink roses. For their reception, they created mini vignettes decorated with sentimental pieces, set up multiple lounge areas with different seating options, and hung tons of romantic lighting to make their expansive venue feel personal, warm, and inviting. It’s no easy feat to create such an intimate feel in such a large venue and with so many guests, but they pulled it off flawlessly. You can find every dreamy detail in their full wedding feature here!

Our song is “Magic” by Coldplay and it was the inspiration for our wedding day – lots of lighting and vintage feel. I’ve always wanted to get married outdoors, as well. It all just fell into place.

Jenelle & Johnny

Jenelle and Johnny combined the grandeur of a fairytale ball with the intimate feel of an at-home wedding for a day that was beyond beautiful. The couple kept their ceremony sweet and simple by setting up a canopy and chairs near the lake. For their reception, they rented an incredible clear tent, complete with crystal chandeliers, a variety of rustic and vintage seating options, and some seriously impressive cascading floral arrangements. They set up lounge areas, used vintage-inspired furniture and décor, and kept the palette subtle yet elegant, all of which gave their reception an approached elegant that still felt like a home away from home. You can find their entire fairytale wedding here!

We only had about 7 and a half months to plan the wedding. A lot of the venues we looked at were booked out for a year. So, I started looking at outdoor weddings that had clear tents and fell in love. My parents live on 7 acres in the middle of Southlake, Texas and I convinced my parents that it was perfect. It turned out to be a lot more than just throwing a tent up in the backyard. We had to bring everything to the house, from generators to fancy outdoor bathrooms. It was all worth it though because I got to get married at home, where I grew up. There was something special about getting ready in my family room and walking out the front door to marry my love. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

Ipswich Garden Wedding at The Crane Estate in Gorgeous Neutral Tones

August 15, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

An Italian garden, elegant decor, and natural floral design made this Massachusetts wedding at The Crane Estate unforgettably romantic. For Mariah and Topher, the venue was one of the most important aspects of creating their dream wedding, and this Italian-inspired beauty could not have been more perfect. Using a refined, minimalist design in neutral shades, they created a garden party look and feel that was as effortless as it was elegant. Between the gardens and the terraces, they didn’t need to add too much extra decor, so their DIY signs and guestbook and the natural florals designed by Luna Moss added just the right amount of personalization. Emily Delamater Photography captured every moment of this romantic Massachusettes wedding brilliantly!

The Couple:

Mariah and Topher

The Wedding:

The Crane Estate, Ipswich, Massachusetts

Choosing the perfect venue was a really important part of planning our wedding. We wanted to find somewhere that we had a connection to as a couple that was also both beautiful and functional for our wedding concept. The Crane Estate at Castle Hill fit the bill perfectly! We love the surrounding area of the North Shore and got engaged not far from The Crane Estate at Mariah‘s family’s summer cottage on Baker’s Island. Not only was our venue breathtakingly gorgeous, it had multiple spaces that we could make use of. We had our ceremony in the sunken Italian garden, had our cocktail hour on the back terrace overlooking the sloping lawn down to the ocean, and dined and danced in the tent and adjoining ballroom on the side of the house.

The most memorable part of the day by far was our ceremony. The Italian garden, where we had our ceremony, perfectly juxtaposed a wild and untamed beauty with a romantic elegance. It’s hard to even put into words the feeling of this special place. Our ceremony was short but filled with personal words and thoughts from our friends and family. Our friend Sean served as our officiant, which made the ceremony all the more special for us. We were a little worried about how the weather would hold up for our outdoor ceremony as rain was in the forecast later in the evening, but we ended up just squeezing everything in before the weather took a turn. In fact, we had this really light fog roll in toward the end of the ceremony, which turned out to be pretty magical.

Working with our photographers, Emily and Matt, was such a joy! We had met Emily and worked with her for our engagement photos, so we felt really comfortable with her and had shaken off some our first-time jitters of being photographed before the wedding day. Emily was especially great at giving us suggestions to make small adjustments and get us started, but ultimately let us do our thing. She was able to capture some incredible shots through it all. Our photos ended up looking so natural and not overly staged, which was exactly what we wanted.

The best advice we received — and have since shared with other people — is to figure out your top 3-5 most important aspects of your wedding day and allocate your budget accordingly. For example, our venue, band, and photographer were high priority for us and we were willing to spend a little more for those things, knowing that we’d have to be more frugal on some other aspects of the wedding such as the wedding attire and decorations. Those priorities are different for every couple, but it worked well for us and even got us doing a little DIY for some of our lower priority items, which ended up being really fun. Overall though, we think couples working together throughout the planning process is crucial. We each took more active roles in coordinating certain parts of the planning, but we never had one person shoulder all the responsibility. This really helped take away a lot of the stress associated with wedding planning.

We DIY’d a few decorative items for our wedding, which was actually a ton of fun. We made wooden seating signs for the ceremony using simple cuts of wood that we then stained and hand lettered using a white Sharpie. We also made our own “guestbook” using a historic nautical map of the surrounding area and surrounding white mat board, on which our guests could write messages. Lastly, we dug up Topher‘s childhood wooden art easel to serve as a hold for our welcome sign.
